Does anyone think Nihilistic will be able to pull this off? I would rather Resistance end then have a new studio tarnish its name. I will remain optimistic though, just like I am for Sly 4 with Sanzaru developing.

Well personally i welccome a new developer with open arms. The Resistance series is a decent fps series but it has one major flaw

It is extremly forgettable

Nothing in the Resistance games "wow"'ed me. I never got hooked or fell in love with them, they are just very decent first person shooter games. However, if you want to break out and sell the big numbers, that is no longer enough.

Look at CoD. The reason that sells so well is because of A) The insanely good multiplayer and B) the amazing singleplayer set pieces. Overall, CoDs gameplay and, more importantly, GUN-play is exactly the same as resistance or any other FPS game, but the set pieces and multiplayer really set it apart.

The Resistance games really needs some new blood to kickstart it and, hopefully, find its groove. Personally i hope they go down the Horror route. It has so much potential there.

I should have said "Semi-Horror" route. I don't hope the next Resistance is a full on horror game. Im just saying theres been some moments in R3 and in R2 that really showed me the potential of some kind of semi-horror style.

@Slayer15 Retribution was developed by Bend and ended up pretty decent, as have the PSP Ratchet and Clank games. Sony's done a good job of maintaining Insomniac's franchises so far.

Good. Resistance 3 was a great game with a fantastic story, but it didn't do diddly-shit in the way of answering the questions brought up by the previous games. I need closure on the entire thing, not just one mans story.

There was closure to the war. There were reports coming in over the radio that resistance fighters were winning shoot outs with much less difficulty since the hive mind was destroyed. (i.e. one battle saw 100 Cimeran deaths vs 7 human deaths)

Oh I know that, but what about the cloven? Grey tech? The race that drove the chimera from earth? Pure chimera? They haven't done ANYTHING worthwhile with those, with the exception of Resistance: Retribution and it's cloven. There's still so much potential...

All that stuff...unless people were devoted fans of Resistance, most of that stuff is junk that doesn't have a huge effect on the overall course of the story.

@kentuckyfried The Cloven? That was a major plot point. Tons of secret files on them and we never even got a good look at them.

What Dcmac said. As well, the cloven supposedly have technology far more powerful than the chimera's. What's the point of introducing this mysterious, kind of scary, uber-powerful third party if nothing interesting happens with them?

As well, the entire story/setting of R2 is centered around the human vs. chimera race to collect grey tech. Apparently it can create mega powerful weapons, but again, NOTHING HAPPENS.

As for the pure chimera, they were one of the main threats of the wormhole in R3. They're only mentioned in one intel, but what's the point of it if NOTHING HAPPENS WITH THEM?

And then the old race that got rid of the chimera is just something I would like to know more about. I sound weird writing this rant thing, but all of these things are just off the top of my head from the games. I haven't read any books or wikis or anything. These are all things that Insomniac has made readily available in their products that will reach the most consumers, yet they have failed to capitalize on so much of it.

Exactly
Every single game was a side step of the story
Nothing developed well, to me Insomniac is unable to play with the Big Boys, and is only capable of producing skin deep games.

No. They finished the story they began in a perfectly fine fashion. The only problem is that along the way, they opened some doors and didn't close them afterwards. I'm just expressing relief that the Resistance series isn't done with, as previously reported.

I think this is a bad idea. But I never think it's a good idea for a franchise to be handed down to a new developer. The overall product won't be the same, and could lead to severe disappointment with fans of the series.

We'll see how well it holds up when Burning Skies comes to the Vita.

Some people have mentioned it doesn't look that great (generic was the word) but I saw the previews on youtube and it seems ok to me.

Personally, I haven't finished Retribution yet (I actually have to replay through the whole thing again, my save's missing), but I'd like to see more of James Grayson's story story ( presuming it hasn't ended for him (no spoilers please).

All of their IP are dead now:
Spyro - Mutilated by Activision
Ratchet and Clank - Last game was horrible
Resistance - Their done with it.

I don't have much faith in another FPS, please either go back to Platformers or a new genre.

This was nice to talk to fans like this but it is also bullshit. If they really cared about the stories they told to that extent then : 1. the stories would be better and 2. they wouldn't have made EIGHT Ratchet games.

I think this multi-platform move has been in the works for a couple years now...notice how after Ratchet & Clank Tools o'Destruction, the witty commercials for Insomiac's games were never shown?Sony was probably pissed at the fact it was happening and took away much of the necessary promotion/advertisement that Insomniac's awesome games needed. It's a sad story but I hope we continue to see some great Ratchet and games and I have NOTHING but high hopes for Overstrike.

Maybe fans wanted more Ratchet games so they said we'll milk the franchise for all that it's worth. I hope a Ratchet collection can come out for PS3 having never played any of the PS2 games before only Tools of Destruction and A Crack In Time and the PSN game.

There's probably gonna be a Jak 4 since the Sly Collection had a trailer for Sly 4. At least I hope we get a Jak game on the PS3. I never played the Jak games to completion on PS2 so gonna get the collection next month. I could see a Ratchet Collection if we got another Ratchet and Clank 4 game on the PS3.

Oh Resistance...after that story yesterday and all the praise R3 was getting, I decided to rent it last night. By the time I had finished updating my PS3 and installing the 4 updates for the game (650 M!) I was so far back into Skyrim that I didn't even care to boot it back up. Let's see if I fare better when I try again tonight...

Both a sad and good way to leave the franchise--you reach a peak in quality far more above and beyond than the last two, and your on the right track. But then you leave. At least they left a pleasant taste in our mouths, and maybe it's for the better that they said "Goodbye" before Sony demanded they milk what they've done right, which would ulitimately result in a stale franchise.

I'm a little uneasy with it going into the hands of Nihilistic... but at the same time, I'm not content with how the Resistance series has gone since Fall of Man in Insomniac's hands. They're a great developer, and while FoM was awesome, so full of character and style, R2 and R3 that followed got progressively worse - even if they were still good on the whole.

That said, hopefully this will give the Resistance series a second chance. I really don't like how it ended, and there's no changing that obviously, but maybe we'll get yet another great game in this series if it continues... something like how HALO Combat Evolved was amazing, 2 and 3 were crapshoots and then, as the HALO series continued, we finally got great games in the series (ODST and REACH) that lived up to the original game that defined that series.

Ted your team failed to make a proper sequel to Fall of Man. The who sentinels bull crap killed the whole "resistance" feeling that they had with Hale. I was one of the disappointed Fall of Man fan with the "sequels". I trust the guys that made the PSP Resistance than the original creators. You failed with Resistance and you know it. I was one of the true fans of Resistance that bought all of them just to find out that you killed Resistance franchise. I'm glad another studio will get it. Thank you for Fall of Man though, that game was the reason I was so happy of dropping $600 for a PS3 and till this day is my number 1 FPS.

I think R2 failed more due to requests from Sony to try and push the multiplayer aspect more. It's classic meddling from the higher ups that do this in every franchise on every system. I think they tried to make Resistance something that everyone with the system should want and they did that with the first game but the problem is that it's hard to do that and compete with multiplatform games like COD. Halo hit big on xbox because it was one of the few worthwhile exclusive titles, but the PS3 had all these other games (both exclusive and multipletform) to compete with by the time the second game came out that it wasnt as important not to mention the reports that the single player campaign was short took a lot of excitement out of it for some people. The 3rd game should have improved... I dont know the numbers but they're still going up against COD,Killzone3 and Battlefield 3 for peoples FPS dollars so it couldn't have been easy for them. ANd seeing the money they could make on a multiplatform title with a smaller effort would appeal to anyone logically (Granted I'm not ready to say Overstrike is any less of a game then anything else they've ever made but the potential for twice the sales between two or 3 platforms, if they go for PC, is very easy to get on board with as opposed to hoping that the majority of people on a single platform buy in.)

Have we gotten to a point where it is impossible for any game franchise to die? I don't have any problem with Resistance in particular but it seems any game that sells a million copies gets sequel after sequel whether they need it or not.

They were itching a long time now to drop the ball. At least they delivered with R3, although they messed up R&C. Thank God Resistance isn't staying in their hands. So long Insomniac on your journey to generic multiplatform multiplayer IP's. You 'll make tons of more money, so it's ok with you that you 'll have lost your gaming soul.
