Capcom announces Ace Attorney 5, HD iOS versions of 1-3

At a 10th anniversary event for the Ace Attorney series in Tokyo, Capcom officially announced Ace Attorney 5, revealing the above logo. No specifics about the game were offered, including date, platform, or characters -- and there's no character silhouette in the logo to show us who the star is. All we know is that there is one, and we have to start presenting our case for a localization to Capcom.

The event also brought a small amount of news relating to Professor Layton Vs. Ace Attorney for 3DS: the animated cutscenes are produced by anime studio Bones, and the game is due sometime this year. Famitsu has screens from one of these cutscenes, of Phoenix and Maya on a plane ride.

Finally, new HD versions of the first three Ace Attorneys will be released on iOS. Check this Famitsu article for screens of the newly refreshed sprites.

Well here we go. There's no way Capcom can somehow botch an HD iOS port of Phoenix Wright. Well, maybe they could charge for evidence to progress through the case quicker...

@mattwestcott Yes. I loved the first five Ace Attorney games but I don't know if I want to care about a series with holes in it in North America.

Was excited for the HD collection... until I clicked through and saw the screens. That looks like ass, I'm sorry. It looks several multitudes worse than the original artwork, like someone was on a tablet and traced the original sprites and callled it a day. Seriously, WTF Capcom.

Also--if Ace Attorney 5 1) isn't 3DS and 2) isn't localized, heads will roll.

Well, this IS Capcom. The same Capcom that appears to be be run by someone who only knows how to divert funds away from stuff people actually want into Super Street Fighter 4 Turbo Hyper Fighting Arcade Edition 2012.

It doesn't look as good as the Layton vs. Wright screenshot released, but it s not like it looks as bad as Mega Man X on the ios.

I dunno, it kinda seems like they're just using the original character artwork? Even so, I won't be buying this, for iOS or Android. I love the AA series, but not enough to buy the games again...

Capcom: "The day we didn't localize Ace Attorney 5 was the biggest day of your life. For us, it was a Tuesday".

Ace Attorney is already on iOS, all 3 with PW were on the App Store. but 2 and 3 were pulled a while ago. This explains it.

Also, I'm pretty sure there's been at least 6 AA games...

@KGameLover1 Technically yes, but I wouldn't count to two Investigations games as part of the numbered series. It's a similar case to how there are at least a dozen Resident Evils, and yet we are approaching Resident Evil 6.

The question is, will Capcom bother to translate this? They didn't translate AAI2 which was out in Japan a year ago. There was a huge thread on Capcom's forums about it.

I read someplace that the HD version of Ace Attorney will also be on android.

@NumberZero Good to see someone bringing this up. The Famitsu article states that Android versions are also going to be released.

Indeed, if they're not going to localize that, slim chance they'll be localizing this. Damn it Capcom!

THank god I wanted to justice for all and trial and tribulations on my ipod for the longest time. So glad

Either the fifth game is set after Apollo Justice and stars him or a new character and will have a few fundamental changes to the gameplay (play Apollo Justice, kids!), it stars Mia Fey before the first game, or it stars a new character that doesn't have to do with the cast of the earlier games.

TOTALLY AGREE, why they never released that one here is a mystery for Ace himself. I just hope this new chapter is released for the DS too and not only for the 3DS, although the chances are slim as Nintendo is already trying to kill it´s DS base with crap to shovel their 3ds on our throats......

As long as Shu Takumi is making the game, I have no objections on Ace Attorney 5 :)

AAI is a spinoff, a spinoff that isn't very good IMO. It didn't surprise me that they didnt localize the 2nd one. But I'll be quite surprised if they didn't localize this one.

@CalmGiant I'm forced to disagree. It introduced a few changes to how the games worked, yes, but those additions did contribute something to the game play.

That isn't to say there weren't a few problems...

Refusing to port the 5th game would be criminal. Almost as criminal as refusing to port AAI2.

I guess I'm the only anime nerd here, because that bit about Bones doing the animation is a big deal. Those guys are among the best, I think.

This was great news for me to wake up to, though. Brightened what would otherwise have been a crummy day.

A big "hellz yeah!!" on that one too. But frankly I'm just uber psyched to hear at least Capcom ain't completely forget about the AA series...or at least Capcom Japan hasn't. Still the challenge will be hoping Capcom America's lazy asses will get it over here to us (and AAI2 for that matter).

No 3DS or Vita compilation of the first 3 games makes me a sad panda. They could at least put the games on the 3DS eShop or PSN Store.

@tendoboy1984 Same here, as I own the first, but can't find 2-4 anywhere, they're already on DS so how hard would i be to put it on the EShop?

Europe got AA4 about a year before 3, it wouldn't be the first time Capcom released them out of order.

The reason Edgeworth 2 didn't come out in America is because Okamiden beat it in sales. They said American's must not want Ace Attorney games anymore.

I'm ecstatic they are making a real AA game instead of another AAI, but knowing Crapcom it's probably not going to be localized.

This game better gets localized.

Still waiting on Ace Investigations 2.
