The Simpsons Arcade is free in February for PS Plusers, feel the love

The Simpsons Arcade is headlining February's PlayStation Plus bonuses. Sony offers an HD adaptation of the classic 1991 game free, for Plus members, through the end of the month. This is the Simpsons' first official launch confirmation, with previous sightings exclusive to XBLA, including this set of Xbox achievements spotted earlier this month.

Sony is handing out a special Valentine's Day present for Plus members as well, with a free download of the complete Far Cry 2 game, the week of February 14.

The Simpsons Arcade will include four-player online co-op and will be available at no cost to Plus members from February 7-29 -- and yes, that's a whole extra day this year, probably to contain all of our nostalgic Simpsons love.

@8bitartist I am in the process of building my cabinet for this game. i bought the board recently. I am working on a dual TMNT Turtles in Time and Simpsons cab.

Now that is what I'm talking about, been a plus member is worth every penny.

@(Unverified) Why? You already payed for random free games and discounts, I had PSN+ for 3 months and it was a waste, no free games or discounts worth it for me...

@Vidaluko If you buy a lot of games and DLC from PSN, then Plus is worth it just for the discounts - you make the money back within the first 4-6 months easily. The 'free' games and cloud storage are just a bonus.

Was it the PlayStation Plus that everybody got for free from the whole PSN hacked business?

Because yes, I agree, that was awful. Lilo & Stitch is still haunting my mind.

But so far this year, with my PlayStation Plus, I've gotten Jurassic Park: The Game (which I enjoyed, haters gonna hate), the original Crash Bandicoot Trilogy, along with Crash Team Racing, the Spyro trilogy, Back to the Future: The Game, and now The Simpsons Arcade.

This is all within the last two and a half months, and that doesn't include the games I've forgotten or don't care about enough (which I'll gladly take either way). At $50 a year, I'm disappointed I hadn't subscribed earlier.

@(Unverified) Couldn't agree more. Just became a plus member, already basically made my money back with the deep discount on the Capcom pack. VERY worth it if you DL a lot of content. Simpson HD and Far Cry 2 FREE? Color me happy to have the service.

I'm the same, I'm loving that we are getting the simpsons game which I would have bought normally.

I play a lot of games so Plus was a no brainer for me, I've played and beat all of my plus games and even gotten all the trophies to them.

and I put the free PS1 games on my PSP to play on the go.

I didn't even know about this Simpsons game, but I'm looking forward to it. Is this the first time a retail game(Far Cry 2) has been free on Plus? It assume it will be quite a large download.

PS Plus has already paid for itself, now it's just working overtime.

@Slayer15 Totally agree on the PS plus being worth it. I would totally buy the Simpsons regardless, this is just uber handy. And actually to my knowledge this is the second retail game we have gotten from Sony through PS Plus, we got Tomb Raider underworld in December for Christmas.

@igarcia86 I didn't realize Underworld was a retail game, I don't really follow the series. I guess that explains why it was a rather large download.

Here's hoping it's a decent conversion. Turtles in Time was a bit rubbish.

@milespieri I'm thinking this'll be a straight arcade port w/some enhancements like they did with the X Men arcade game. Turtles in Time was handled by Ubisoft...this along w/X Men is handled by Konami

any word on price for non-members? i'm going to buy it either way- i was just wondering if they'd announced a price for everyone else.

Not sure I'd go that far until the feature set is at least on par.

Cross game invites, parties, beacons keep live working quite well for its function of multiplayer games.

As a storefront, PSN crushes XBL but as a multiplayer service, it still has some growing ahead

Seriously, Plus has nothing to do with live. PS Plus is an alternative means for paying for games, nothing more. As as service, yeah, it's pretty cool though.

I just teared up a little.... I wasted so many quarters on The Simpsons Arcade when I was younger it was ridiculous. I am so happy to be a Playstation Plus member right now...

Oh yeah and Far Cry 2 is a nice gift too.

Poured an obscene amount of quarters into this as a kid, and inhaled an obscene amount of second hand smoke at the bowling alley it was at. Ahhhh, to be a child of the 80s and a little league bowler.

PSN+ is a lot like HBO for me. When I have it, there's not a lot of interesting content, when I drop it good stuff comes out.

Good question but if i had to guess i would say Plus members get the game from February 7 to 29th. And non plus members get to purchase the game at a later date.

Love this game. Can't wait for it. I've been a PS+ subscriber for well over a year now and I've yet to regret it.

Yet another great addition to the PS+ free game line-up. I've been waiting years for a port of this game onto current-gen systems. Next Tuesday can't come fast enough!

This may finally push me over the edge into using Plus.

Been a Plus subscriber since the beginning. Such a no-brainier for me. As someone who is on the ps3 twice a week, there's always something new to do, and my psp's 16gb card is chock full of 20+ ps1 games I love, most of them AAA.

Would be nice if my Xbox Live Gold Subscription would be me some free stuff. Don't care about timed exclusives.

Yeah, everyone knows how great Simpsons Arcade is, but FC2 is one of the most under rated games of this gen. Flawed? Absolutely. But it's an incredibly compelling experience and allows for the kind of role play and player rule manipulation that you just don't get in many modern games. I mean, spend enough time on it, and you can create entire meta games in the construct of the narrative. It's truly freaking amazing.

Can't wait for Tuesday to get the Simpsons arcade.! PS Plus has been an awesome investment that has paid for itself several times over! Free stuff like, Back to the Future, Sam & Max, Sega Genisis pack, Stacking, Sonic, Resident Evil 1-3, discount on Resident Evil 4, Syphon Filter 1-3, Abe's Oddworld, Capcom pack discount, Wipeout HD, etc... I have about 40 free games not including free ps one games and minis. Best $50 ever spent!

The Simpsons Arcade Game will be out by this Friday, Feb 3rd for 800 MS points aka $10 on XBLA.
