Mass Effect 3 'From Ashes' DLC screenshots are potentially spoilersy
64
Five screenshots and a stylish advert for Mass Effect 3's day-one "From Ashes" DLC pack have surfaced on GameStop's Facebook account, and while we're not entirely positive that the pack's contents are indeed spoilerific, we feel that it's better the err on the side of caution. To that end, we've totally hidden the identities of the characters in the above screenshot, and tucked the rest away in the gallery below.

i still cant believe they try to pass this off as not important to the main game. for gods sake the damn thing is a PROTHEAN! The freaking game revolves around the battle between the reapers and prothean and now you can recruit one!? THATS EFFING IMPORTANT -_- fking sell outs.

You're so right! They're letting people who didn't spend a big sum for the Collector's Edition still manage to get the content from the CE without having to buy the CE, the bastards! They should just lock CE content away forever so us mere mortals can never get them. THEY SHOULD NOT BE GIVING US OPTIONS!
By the way, I'm still waiting on ME2 DLC of the GameStop-exclusive armor and black hole gun. The way ME3's DLC is working, I'll be able to get exclusives through DLC eventually. Sounds perfect damn fine to me.

I've been saying this is the direction Bioware is headed since ME2 because of being acquired by EA and no one wanted to listen...

The fact that you can finish the game without the DLC means that perhaps it isn't as important as one might thing.
I personally believe people are blowing things out of proportion with this "Prothean character". For all we know, he isn't that important or integral to the story!
No one on the internet has played the game yet, however, everyone screaming on top of their lungs make it seem like they know for a FACT that the prothean characer is IMMENSLY important... sheesh everyone thinks they work at BioWare or something.
Just my $0.02

@Knives Chau Here's an idea, how about we play the conent before we judge it's integrity to the story. All this rage and fraking out is just rediculous hyperbole (and the Cynical Brit comes off as a churlish child calling for boycots over DLC based on information that he has no idea about claiming it was made by the primary dev team how would he know that? He doesn't. Once again the hype monster of gaming claims another victim.)

Important or not, day-1 DLC is crap. Their reason Bioware gave for being CE exclusive is also crap.

@Knives Chau The game revolves around the battle between humans(and friends) against the reapers. Until the game comes out you'll have no idea how important he is.(SPOILER: about as important as vega) I too also hope they sell out...of copies that is.

The point he's making is this kind of content shouldn't cost anything. It shouldn't be a DLC at all. There should be no such thing as day 1 DLC at all. Not even in the CE. All content should be in the game you pay $60 for.
DLC's should be made after the game is out, patched and running well.

@Traptz I beg to differ. Have you seen the complains about CE? There is no way of making everyone happy. These are the most common complains I've seen/heard.
1) I don't need all those physical crap, takes up too much space, give us more content.
2) Too much DLC, give us more/better goodies.
3) It's not limited enough, these go into bargain bin within months.
4) CE doesn't give me anything useful but a stupid artbook.
So, right now, the CE has decent to nice physical goods with a balance mix of DLCs and it's actually LIMITED to make it worth it, it's suddenly an outrage. EA could have easily done what Rocksteady did with Batman AC. Make the Penguin DLC exclusive to CE only and unobtainable for everyone else. I certainly prefer the option EA is giving right now.
Am I happy about too many DLCs, certainly not but I don't think this DLC falls into the category worth b*tch*ng.

@Traptz All content is in the game. If they're spending extra time on the game, they're going to expect you to pay extra. They're not going to pay people to sit around a do nothing. The studio needs to be operating at 100% capicity at all times, or people get fired do to redundincies. I fail to see patches have to do with, dlc. Programers and designers have very differnet jobs.

I think people are going way overboard with the "Prothean character. Do you people realize that the Collectors are technically Prothean? The Reapers changed certain Protheans into Collectors to do their bidding. For all we know this "prothean" character could be something lame like that, I'm sure they would have difficulty explaining a character who should've been extinct for 50,000 years. Also, you'd think that Legion (the geth squad member in ME2) would be important to the story arc, but he really wasn't.
That being said, there's no proof that this is just disc content yet. I believe they really did develop the DLC while patching the retail game. Some people are saying "If it took x months to finish the game, how did they finish the DLC," and a simple answer would be that they had separate teams on each. Also, I think they should only offer it to CE buyers for awhile considering that's the biggest upside to buying it, so be glad its available day 1 for people who don't get it. I wouldn't care if they charged $200 for ME3, because I know I'll get more than my money's worth in it, whereas I could go buy $200 worth of movie tickets and be lucky if I liked $30 worth.

@BoBsS Exactly.
Let's compare this to Deus Ex: Human Revolution's preorder bonus involving Tracer Tong--part of the Explosive Mission Pack.
It had next to nothing to do with the overall story of /Human Revolution/. Tong still showed up without the DLC, and it really only added to the character for those who remembered him from Deus Ex. The DLC was later released separately.
The way I see it, this is the same thing, except that the DLC is being released on day one. Just watch, the Prothean isn't gonna make a bit of difference to the MAIN STORY of ME3.

I hope this guy is a little more... interactive than Zaheed and Kasumi from ME2. Okay, I'd liked to have had the option to romance them but i can understand why they didnt let you. But not being able to TALK to them on the Normandy? I didn't expect that :/ You can hit space and they spout some text, but i wanted some real conversations like the other party members. They just felt so 2 dimensional.

I'm pretty sure being the last of your ancient race oughta make a Prothean lonely. Easy pickings for Shepard.

Really hate this day-one DLC BS that a lot of games seem to do now. Just include it with the damn game and stop trying to pull even more money out of the people willing to buy the game early on.

@Timerider This content is free to people willing to buy the CE. It's incentives some people don't have the cash for the CE up front so get the content later. It's an option it's not that big a deal.

@Timerider What you fail to realize is how the development process works. Bioware finishes the game several weeks before we get it in our hands, as the game has to go through certification, production for shipping, etc. once they are done.
What do you think the development team does while that happens - sit on their hands? They start working on DLC, plus any bug fixes that are found after it is sent out. Which is why you see day-one DLC, as well as day-one title updates.

I don't know if it's price-gouging so much as it is another bajillion-dollar AAA title that makes you jump through a half-dozen hoops before you can even boot up the game proper. Whether it's registering with the publisher's identity / rewards service, day one patches or day one DLC, it seems more and more difficult to just play your new $60 game.
If there's one nice thing to be said about Nintendo's Internet phobia, it's that next to none of their games make you do this crap.
But I guess I'm part of the problem. Sigh. I'm taking off March 6 to play the hell out of ME3 and buy all of the e-things. ALL OF THEM.

I am against day 1 DLC, but you guys don't understand. THE PROTHEAN IS STILL ON THE GAME, HE'S IN THE STORY, THIS DLC ONLY ALLOWS YOU TO RECRUIT HIM TO FIGHT WITH YOU. Most people I see think he won't be in the game AT ALL without the dlc.
Posted: Feb 25th 2012 7:31PM commonperson said
@Puushiki And there in lies the rub, people who have not played the game and have no idea of what the content actually includes are rushing to judge it and call for boycots. This is like the people who never saw The Last Temptation of Christ calling for it to be boycotted. I'm all for rightous protest where it's due but you kind of need to actually have played or seen the content to have that knowledge. I'm taking a wait and see approach... but reason and thought are not something I expect out of the gaming community.

wow...that is some pretty lame looking character design. But I guess we can only see his wrinkly head and side of his face. Maybe he looks much cooler from the front. I guess I was just hoping his whole body would be original looking, like how Legion and Kasumi dont wear the standard armor set
