After kicking open the doors on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/28/kevin-butler-opens-the-hall-of-play-on-facebook/">PlayStation's "Hall of Play"</a> last month, Sony's vice president of often hilarious video advertisements took to YouTube this week and honored <em>Killzone 3</em> player "Legit_Btness." But not because "Legit" is a pro or anything, but because of his dutiful late game Helghast stabbing. Bravo!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/07/kevin-butler-honors-legit-btness-with-festive-dance/">Kevin Butler honors 'Legit Btness' with festive dance</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 07 Nov 2011 12:45:00 EST. Microsoft must be confident in early <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/gears-of-war-3"><em>Gears of War 3</em></a> sales numbers, because the company has announced a new initiative to have "live" TV ads market the game. What this means is that during commercials, Microsoft will display the current number of players online in what we can only assume is an attempt to entice people who only want to play games that a lot of other people are playing.<br />
<br />
The ad campaign kicks off on September 23 and will run until October 3 in six different 30-second advertisements. Stephen McGill, Microsoft UK Xbox marketing director, says Microsoft is spending the big bucks to advertise <em>Gears</em>. "It is on the scale of what we did for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/halo-reach"><em>Halo Reach</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/halo-3"><em>Halo 3</em></a> -- television is the main centrepiece of the campaign."<br />
<br />
<em>Gears of War 3</em> launches worldwide today.<br />

The flurry of trailers reminding you of your long-time love for <em>The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time</em> wasn't enough to get you excited for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/the-legend-of-zelda-ocarina-of-time">the 3DS remake</a>? The latest TV ad, starring Robin Williams, his daughter (named Zelda, after the 1987 NES game), and his <em>incredible grey mane</em> should do it!<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/15/ocarina-of-time-3ds-ad-starring-robin-williams-his-daughter-an/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Ocarina of Time 3DS ad starring Robin Williams, his daughter, and a tremendous beard</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/15/ocarina-of-time-3ds-ad-starring-robin-williams-his-daughter-an/">Ocarina of Time 3DS ad starring Robin Williams, his daughter, and a tremendous beard</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 15 Jun 2011 17:36:00 EST. Okay, maybe not just babies -- but kids at heart. Adults with baby heads is apparently the image Sony wants to promote for its first-ever advertising campaign for Latin America.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/10/playstation-move-is-for-babies-first-official-latin-american-ad/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>PlayStation Move is for babies, first official Latin American ad suggests</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/10/playstation-move-is-for-babies-first-official-latin-american-ad/">PlayStation Move is for babies, first official Latin American ad suggests</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 10 Nov 2010 20:30:00 EST. Kick! Jump! Flail! All these actions -- and <em>so, so</em> <em>many more</em> -- await your first <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/kinect">Kinect</a> experience. As the first TV ads demonstrate, Kinect is meant not just for you and your family, but also your giant, brightly-lit living room. We started building home additions right after <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/e3-2010">E3</a>. Sony, here's an idea: just let <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/kevin-butler">Kevin Butler</a> control your entire company. Seriously, Sir Howard Stringer is a great guy and all, don't get us wrong -- we've been up plenty of nights bawling our eyes out while he cradled us in his big, burly arms, assuring us that the PS3 would in fact be okay -- but Kevin Butler has proven in his latest ad that he's more than capable for the job. <br />

Rather than just copy SCEA's smarmy spokesperson outright (like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/20/kevin-butler-commercial-cloned-in-new-zealand/"><em>some</em> companies</a> have chosen to do), Sony Japan has settled upon a new mascot for its advertisements: <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/2010/07/28/playstation-3-meets-its-most-delicious-rival/">a scallion</a>. Or rather, several scallions, sharing a central ... bulb thingy. Fine, you caught us. Without the proper prior information, the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/3d-dot-game-heroes"><em>3D Dot Game Heroes</em></a> trailer posted above would seem like a rare miss for Atlus' clever marketing machine. After all, it features <a href="http://www.viddler.com/explore/Joystiq/videos/3358/">a fairly <em>horrific</em> rap</a> about some of the game's bonus modes, most of which have been shoehorned into an incredibly awkward rhyme scheme. However, once you realize the commercial is a parody of this <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=69_l1oZ2b2M">1986 <em>Legend of Zelda</em> ad</a>, you realize -- well, it's still a trainwreck, but it's a <em>parodical trainwreck</em>.<br />
<br />
Better still, it's an <em>appropriate</em> parodical trainwreck, considering the rest of <em>3D Dot Game Heroes</em> borrows inspiration from Nintendo's emerald-hatted adventurer. And by "borrows," of course, we mean "straight-up <em>plunders</em>."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/11/we-cant-rap-our-minds-around-the-latest-3d-dot-game-heroes-trai/">We can't rap our minds around the latest 3D Dot Game Heroes trailer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 11 May 2010 19:20:00 EST. Sure, there's a bit of gameplay video thrown in, but most of it centers on the much talked about <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/27/skate-3-video-gets-by-with-a-little-help-from-some-friends/">online friend system</a> by way of uniting skateboarders, apparently under an umbrella of <em>brutality</em>. <br />
<br />
With a <a href="http://xbox.joystiq.com/2010/04/15/skate-3-demo-now-on-xbox-live-for-all-gold-members/">demo already available</a> and the game's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/17/skate-3-may-11-release-date/">May 11 release date</a> fast approaching, we're not sure you need much more to get you on board for <em>Skate 3</em>, but we'd suggest checking out the commercial just to see what happens at the end. Now you <em>have</em> to watch! Sure, they may have acted a bit ... out of place during previous visits to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/05/salem-and-rio-visit-ea-montreal-in-bizarre-army-of-two-trailer/">EA Montreal</a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/12/new-army-of-two-the-40th-day-viral-video-has-its-priorities-str/">EA Headquarters</a>, but that doesn't mean they're not fit for retail life. Take, for instance, the video above of the two trying their best to lend a hand to the fine folks at GameStop. <br />
<br />
They might be a bit rough around the edges, but that doesn't mean that they didn't get the most magazine upsells for the month of December (they did!) or that they aren't capable of re-alphabetizing the used PS2 section six or seven hundred times a day (they are!). Give them a chance, folks. Under the inhuman terror mask and bullet-proof chest padding beats the heart of a human being.<br />

The marketing leading up to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/brutal-legend"><em>Br&uuml;tal Legend</em></a>'s Rocktober 13 release date (hey, that's today!) has been unlike any Tim Schafer game to date -- a steady stream of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/04/brutal-legend-multiplayer-mode-explained-in-latest-trailer/">content from the game</a> on top of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/09/brutal-legend-video-talks-about-the-competition/">occasional live-action short</a>. And now, Schafer's biggest project is taking the marketing machine to the boob tube (we've embedded the ad after the break, via <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JVo98qkUoTc&amp;">YouTube</a>) with a 'Hell yeah!'-laden ditty.<br /><br />The bad economy paired with <em>Br&uuml;tal Legend</em>'s same-day release alongside <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/uncharted-2"><em>Uncharted 2</em></a> means EA needs to get the word out. Hopefully Eddie Riggs' repeated phrase will do the trick.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2009/10/brutal-legend-tv-ad/">Wired</a>]<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/13/brutal-legend-ad-commercializes-eddie-riggs-for-television/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Brutal Legend ad commercializes Eddie Riggs for television</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/13/brutal-legend-ad-commercializes-eddie-riggs-for-television/">Brutal Legend ad commercializes Eddie Riggs for television</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 13 Oct 2009 14:00:00 EST. According to a <a href="http://img151.imagevenue.com/aAfkjfp01fo1i-10585/loc844/70447_nier-r_122_844lo.jpg">two-page ad</a> spotted by <a href="http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3175966">1UP</a> in the most recent Famitsu, "Nier Replicant" is set to be detailed in next week's issue of the Japanese magazine. <br /><br />The spread features a scantily clad white-haired lady with a single line of text that reads, "Beyond revenge lies crazed desperation." Given the absolute dearth of information we have on the <em>Nier</em> franchise, we're sorry to say we can offer little more than our furrowed brow to assuage your confusion over <em>Replicant</em>'s tagline. We do know that the name could very well change before it's formally announced on Western shores, as <em>Nier</em> was recently announced in the same edition of Famitsu as "Nier Gestalt" -- known as to us as just <em>Nier</em>. It appears as though at least some of our questions will be answered in next week's issue.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/nier/">Nier</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/nier/#2298290"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/09/2132392233_full_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/nier/#2298289"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/09/2132392231_full_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/nier/#2298288"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/09/2132392230_full_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/nier/#2298287"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/09/2132392232_full_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/nier/#2222603"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/08/2009-04-15_00-12-48_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />

As if the piece on <a href="http://www.cnn.com/video/data/2.0/video/offbeat/2009/05/06/moos.keyboard.cat.cnn.html">CNN</a> weren't enough, the Internet's own "Keyboard Cat" has just been given the Sam Fisher homeless militant makeover for a recent video advertising <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/splinter-cell-conviction"><em>Splinter Cell Conviction</em></a>'s upcoming PAX appearance. Posted after the jump are two completely surprising pieces of advertising imagery -- movie posters for the Bruckheimer/Gyllenhaal joint, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/prince-of-persia"><em>Prince of Persia</em></a>. Why "surprising?" Because they look completely and utterly fantastic. Yeah, we know. We were <em>just</em> as surprised as you. <br /><br />Don't get it twisted -- the movie <em>won't</em> be good. It <em>can't</em> be good. However, its advertising looks very professional, its font choice is delightfully non-cheesy, and its Prince looks very Princely. That's an achievement in and of itself. Check out both posters after the jump.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://kotaku.com/5318964/first-look-at-a-proper-prince-of-persia-movie-poster">Kotaku</a>]<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/21/prince-of-persia-film-posters-look-decidedly-unterrible/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Prince of Persia film posters look decidedly unterrible</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/21/prince-of-persia-film-posters-look-decidedly-unterrible/">Prince of Persia film posters look decidedly unterrible</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 21 Jul 2009 01:50:00 EST. Look up in the sky! It's a bird! It's a plane! It's a Japanese role-playing game character watching you shower? Los Angeles residents have been introduced to the cast of the upcoming Square Enix powerhouse, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Final-Fantasy-XIII/">Final Fantasy XIII</a></em>, via building-sized promotional posters. The giant ads for the upcoming JRPG can be spotted on the corner of S. Figueroa Street and Olympic Boulevard in Downtown Los Angeles.<br /><br />The <a href="http://member.square-enix.com/na/blog/2009/05/snowing-in-la.php#more">124ft image</a> showcases the game's three main characters, (above-left, from left to right) Vanille, Snow and Lightning, as well as a heading that promises the game will launch in 2010 (with logos for both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360). Giant video game based promotional posters in LA, huh? You'd think some kind of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/e3-2009">huge gaming event</a> was happening in the area soon, or something.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/23/giant-final-fantasy-xiii-characters-watch-over-la-residents/">Giant Final Fantasy XIII characters watch over LA residents</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 23 May 2009 17:30:00 EST. PlayStation Canada has decided to pull about 300 bus shelter <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Killzone-2/">Killzone 2</a></em> ads throughout the Greater Toronto Area ahead of schedule following a string of complaints by parents regarding the violent imagery. Davis Mirza, a 4/5 grade teacher, contacted Sony Canada when he noticed one such ad on display at a bus shelter near his Scarborough school.<br /><br />Mirza told <a href="http://www.thestar.com/article/600862">The Toronto Star</a> that ads of such a violent nature do not "help promote any kind of community renewal or even responsibility." Kyle Moffatt, public relations specialist for Sony Computer Entertainment Canada, said the entire bus shelter campaign would be pulled, telling Joystiq the campaign was set to expire soon but the company has decided to "speed up the process."<br /><br />Moffatt told The Star, PlayStation would establish an off-limits radius around schools for any future, related promotional material. As for the trip to and from school, maybe parents should invest in blindfolds to shield their children from violent images of glowing orange eyes ... we eagerly await<em> Killzone 2 </em>branded innocence protectors.<br /><br /><strong>Update</strong><em>:</em> Kyle Moffatt's position is public relations specialist at Sony Computer Entertainment Canada, not Sony Canada as originally listed.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/12/sony-pulls-killzone-2-ads-in-toronto-following-complaints/">Sony pulls Killzone 2 ads in Toronto following complaints [update]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 12 Mar 2009 16:00:00 EST. That's about to change as SCEA has just unveiled its 30 second spot, to air tomorrow on "several networks." The spot focuses on a single <strike>sniper</strike> bullet, traveling through a chaotic battlefield. It reminds us a lot of last year's Angelina Jolie flick <em>Wanted</em> -- what do you think of it?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/19/americas-30-second-killzone-2-commercial/">America's 30 second Killzone 2 commercial</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 19 Feb 2009 17:00:00 EST. The Photoshop gurus that roam <a href="http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=349539&amp;page=42">NeoGAF</a> are at it <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/04/fan-made-street-fighter-iv-ads-are-too-cool-for-magazines/">again</a>, this time creating mock-up adverts for <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Killzone-2/">Killzone 2</a></em>. Unlike the poorly worded (and fake) <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/01/leaked-questionable-killzone-2-super-bowl-ad-making-of-special/">Super Bowl ad</a>, these are advertisements we can get behind. Unsurprisingly, some <em>choppers</em> decided to <a href="http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=14746921&amp;postcount=2119">voice their opinions</a> on reactions to some recent <em>Killzone 2</em> <a href="http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=14747729&amp;postcount=2121">review coverage</a>. With a commercial that has a clear message and is blessedly miles away from the company's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/29/sony-america-drops-ad-agency-of-13-years-now/">ads of yore</a>, Sony launched its Video Delivery Service <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2008/12/15/ps3-not-just-for-games-anymore/">ad campaign</a> last night during Monday Night Football. The spot features a 20- or 30-something who justifies his purchase of a PS3 to his skeptical girlfriend by calling it a "movie downloading machine."<br /><br />Sony states it currently has 1000 full-length movies and 2700 TV episodes for download. Check out the full ad after the break. We love this sick new PSP ad from SCEE. This ad campaign really effectively tells us that PSP can do a lot of things. Yes, you have the <em>whole world</em> in your hands -- get it? The modern remix of the classic kids tune works surprisingly well in this ad that's as playful as a PlayStation ad should be. We haven't seen something so effective in selling a product in quite some time. Good job!<br /><br />Check out the ad after the break.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://boardsus.playstation.com/playstation/board/message?board.id=psp&amp;thread.id=3408541">PlayStation Boards</a>]<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/12/put-the-whole-world-in-your-hands-in-new-psp-ad/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Put the whole world in your hands in new PSP ad</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/12/put-the-whole-world-in-your-hands-in-new-psp-ad/">Put the whole world in your hands in new PSP ad</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 12 Nov 2008 23:50:00 EST. SCEA's latest ad will be a trilogy. The "Reflections" TV spots will be part of their holiday media blitz. Not much is seen in this 15-second ad, and it simply asks "Have you started your wish list?" We don't know if this is going to capture anyone's attention -- why do the games play such a small role in this ad? Haunting, yes. But will it be effective? We'll reserve judgment until the next two ads air.<br /><br />Ad can be seen, after the break.<br /><br />[Thanks, <a href="http://thex-xik.blogspot.com/">Rodrigo</a>!]<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/12/ps3-holiday-ads-ask-have-you-started-your-wish-list/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>PS3 holiday ads ask: 'Have you started your wish list?'</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/12/ps3-holiday-ads-ask-have-you-started-your-wish-list/">PS3 holiday ads ask: 'Have you started your wish list?'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 12 Nov 2008 23:22:00 EST. Washington D.C. resident John Cangany sent us a tip this morning about a <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/fallout-3"><em>Fallout 3</em></a> advertisement he saw in the Metro last night and subsequently <a href="http://digitalmetropolisblog.com/2008/10/06/fallout3/">blogged about</a>. Amused by this ad push in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fallout-3/256924/full/"><em>Fallout 3</em>'s setting</a> (before the nuclear apocalypse), we actually wanted to know if there were more ads than the one we were told about at the Metro Center station. <br /><br />We contacted <em>Fallout 3'</em>s PR people and they sent us several images of various ads found in the city's subway. We didn't receive any details about which stations these images were taken from, but we've placed all the pictures we got in the gallery below. <strike>So, residents of D.C., can you name the stations you've seen the ads in while going about your pre-Vault lives?</strike><br /><br /><strong>Update</strong>: Pete Hines,<em> Fallout 3</em>'s product manager, wrote us to say the ads are currently only at the Metro Center station. He explains the company took over all the ad space there for the month, adding that DC residents will start seeing bus and bus shelter ads in the near future. A <a href="http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=336311">NeoGAF</a> reader stumbled upon this, what appears to be another strange PS3 ad from our friends in Europe. At this point, we've become so accustomed to ads that have no real connection to the PS3. At least they're thought-provoking, and gives us hope that within every fat gamer lies a core of skinny girls that stare back with no emotion.<br /><br />What???<br /><br /><strong>See also:</strong> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/30/this-is-advertising-top-10-worst-playstation-ads/">Top 10 worst PlayStation ads</a><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/24/sony-europe-strikes-again-new-crazy-ad-to-discuss/">Sony Europe strikes again! A fantastic anti-tobacco ad from Florida, discovered by <a href="http://www.gamertagradio.com/vbportal/forums/showthread.php?t=7502">GamerTag Radio</a>, takes place within a <em>Halo</em>-esque videogame world where the battling hero survives a vicious robotic onslaught -- only to succumb to smoking. Part of the <a href="http://www.youtube.com/user/tobaccofreeflorida">Tobacco Free Florida</a> campaign, the videogame themed advertisement is the last of three new promotional spots that began running just before the Super Bowl. While we can't speak to the overal effectivness of the campaign one thing is certain, we wouldn't mind playing that game. You know, without the smoking part that is.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/25/florida-anti-tobacco-ad-rooted-in-games/">Florida Anti-Tobacco Ad rooted in games</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 25 Jun 2008 14:15:00 EST. With the title due for release in Japan on the 26th of this month, Nintendo is putting on its marketing hat and showing a new ad to Japanese gamers.<br /><br />Nintendo has enlisted the aid of Japanese celeb Thelma Aoyama to help them promote the title. If you're clueless as to who she is, then you probably don't live in Japan and should check out <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thelma_Aoyama">this Wikipedia page</a>.<br /><br />Sadly, like most Japanese advertisements, this one is way too short and doesn't show enough gameplay.<br /><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/12/band-brothers-dx-enlists-japanese-celebrity-for-commercial/">Band Brothers DX enlists Japanese celebrity for commercial</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 12 Jun 2008 13:15:00 EST. Sure ads aren't as ... uh ... flashy as they once were, but they still take up the pages our favorite magazines and disturb our search for news on our favorite websites.<br /><br /><a href="http://next-gen.biz/index.php?option=com_content&amp;task=view&amp;id=10534&amp;Itemid=2">Next-Gen.biz</a> has taken a look at the evolution of game ads from the last three decades, including: the simplistic approach of the 80s, the radical colors of the 90s and the boring screenshot montages of the current generation.<br /><br />While not Xbox specific, the feature teaches us a little about the evolution of marketing for games and how the new generation is breaking the mold wit Alternate Reality Games (<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/arg">ARGs</a>) while still phoning in traditional advertisements. A worthy read for those looking for some gaming business knowledge.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/02/a-brief-history-of-game-ads/">A Brief History of Game Ads</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 02 Jun 2008 15:30:00 EST. Everyone and their grandmother has at least 4 DS Lites and 4 copies of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/brain-age"><em>Brain Age</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/27/brain-age-2-to-pop-up-in-unlikely-places/"><em>Brain Age 2</em></a> to accompany their handhelds, so what could this accomplish? Does the thing even need to be advertised, even on the web?<br /><br />Then again, we thought that perhaps thinking about advertising is a wasted effort. If you're anything like us, you're too busy playing with one of your DS Lites to watch television. So let's switch gears.<br /><br />If you were in charge of creating an advertising campaign for the DS, what would it be like? Would you sell out and have a commercial starring <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MDUQW8LUMs8">Chuck Norris</a>? Would you travel to a small, mid-west town and hand out bundles to all the folk residing within?<br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/21/ds-daily-marketing-the-product/">DS Daily: Marketing the product</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 21 May 2008 08:00:00 EST. Aside from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/22/mario-kart-ditches-wii-would-like-to-play-for-cowboy-jed/">advertising in the United States</a>, another region important to sales of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/mario-kart-wii"><em>Mario Kart Wii</em></a> is Japan, Nintendo's native country. As such, the gaming giant has enlisted the aid of Japanese celebrities to help hock their wares onto the gaming populace. Some companies might be touchy about things like that, but not Capcom. Even though the gem they published sold a lot less copies than it deserved to, Capcom at least has a sense of humor about the whole thing, as the ad to the right shows us. Hailing <em>Okami</em> as "the best game you've never played" is one of the funniest Wii ads we've seen, in fact. <br /><br />Way to go, Capcom -- that's what we call good marketing.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/07/okami-advertisement-pokes-fun-at-itself/">Okami advertisement pokes fun at itself</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 07 Apr 2008 20:00:00 EST. This latest advertisement for our lovely PSP shows a man and woman pulling, stretching, snapping, and popping each other's faces while talking about ... well, we weren't really paying attention because this is just ridiculous. We imagine it had to do with the features of the PSP, all with sexy British accents!<br /><br />[via <a href="http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=102482">DCemu</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/03/sony-europe-releases-new-psp-ad-head-scratching-ensues/">Sony Europe releases new PSP ad, head scratching ensues</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 03 Apr 2008 23:00:00 EST. Fans of the <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/pokemon">Pokemon</a> </em>franchise (see: uh, everyone?) and, more specifically, the <em>Pokemon Ranger</em> franchise, were <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/15/nintendo-confirms-pokemon-ranger-sequel/">ecstatic to hear</a> (<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/19/a-first-look-at-pokemon-ranger-follow-up/">and see</a>) that a sequel to the touch-screen-intensive game is coming. Well, prepare to become even more excited, as we've got a gallery of images for you to go through below, as well as a link to the Japanese <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/category/promotional-consideration">commercial</a> for the game. What else could you ask for?<br />
<br />
Oh, right ... <em>an actual copy of the game</em>. Well, you'll have to wait a bit on that one.<br />

Brawl</em></a> releasing upon the Japanese public at the end of the month, it's no surprise that Nintendo has prepared a plethora of TV spots to be run. And, thanks to the intertron, one doesn't need to live in Japan to see them. So, sit back, relax and catch an eye full of <em>Brawl </em>goodness in one of the spots above, then head past the break for some more.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/16/japan-to-run-plenty-of-ads-for-smash-bros-brawl/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Japan to run plenty of ads for Smash Bros.
