Mega Man 9 & 10 Combo Pack free for PS Plus members this week

Mega Man 9 and 10 are the latest games to be blasting their way onto PlayStation Plus. The recent yet retro-styled platformers become available to North American PS Plus members tomorrow in a free combo pack. And yes, since you asked, that's more than enough excuse to link to some awesome Mega Man tunage, thank you.

A North American PS Plus subscription also grants you entry to the bloodthirsty arena of the God of War: Ascension multiplayer beta, as of tomorrow. Budding onto PS Plus later tomorrow as well are indie RTS Eufloria, discounted by half to $2.50, and NCAA Football 13 DLC in the form of the Recent Winners pack, which you'll be able to score for free.

'Best of British Indie Bundle' on Steam

A collection of the best-rated indie games by British developers is on sale for a couple days on Steam. The "Best of British Indie Bundle" includes Time Gentlemen, Please!, Ben There Dan That!, Eufloria, DEFCON, Frozen Synapse, Revenge of the Titans and Gratuitous Space Battles.

The bundle, whose components would add up to $79.94 individually, is more generous than gratuitous at $9.99. The sale runs until 4PM Pacific on Thursday.

Steam Summer Sale, Day 10: Batman Arkham City, Torchlight, Quantum Conundrum and more

Whew, we did it. It's finally the last day of the Steam Summer Sale and we ... what's that? There's another day of this madness? That's just great. Well, hopefully you didn't budget your lemonade stand money the way we did this year in order to account for tomorrow, the final day of the sales promotion.

It's hard to keep up when today's sales include Quantum Conundrum and Arma 2: Combined Operations, both at 40% off. Also, Batman: Arkham City stands alone at 66% off, plenty of reason for us to pretend July 22 isn't even on the calendar. While we're at it, Prince of Persia, Evochron Mercenary, Torchlight, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 2, and Fable 3 are tempting us with a 75% discount. Finally, the indie bundle for today includes Bit.Trip Runner, Eufloria, and Machinarium.

Enough about games, who wants to buy some delicious lemonade so we're ready for tomorrow's sales?

Eufloria sprouts HD roots on iPad next month

You may have played indie gem Eufloria since its release on PSN, but you may only recognize it by it's common name, "That Calming Game That Makes Me Feel Funny For Some Reason." Now you'll be able to play TCGTMMFFFSR on iPad, with the release of Eufloria HD in February.

Eufloria HD offers an innovative approach to the strategy genre, layering RTS action with a soothing, nurturing interface that resembles something that happens on a cellular level, usually in a bedroom, a sterile doctor's office or the back seat of a 1987 Buick Electra. The iPad version will include the updates in the PSN release, along with a few touchpad-specific features -- if you know what we mean.

Indie Royale dishes out 'The Really Big Bundle'

For its third offering, Indie Royale is bundling together five new games because ... hey, we're all buying stuff right now and everyone loves cheap bundles of good games. A bit of quantity and quality, you know? And the Indie Royale folks must know what they're doing -- Gamasutra reports the first two bundles have moved over 350,000 games across 70,000 total bundle sales.

Within The Really Big Bundle, you'll be able to grab headliner Really Big Sky and a pair of Zeboyd games (from the guys bringing back Penny Arcade Adventures) namely Cthulhu Saves the World and Breath of Death VII. Rounding out the final two columns in this pentagon of parsimony is Runespell: Overture and Eufloria.

Eufloria review: Fight the flowers that be

The games industry is often known for its bluster. Its explosions, its gruesome headshots, its eerily realistic prostitutes. Less well known is the games industry's quiet, thoughtful nephew who, instead of getting drunk and grabby at Thanksgiving, crawls under the table to finish the 1000-piece puzzle he's been working on. That nephew is the independent games community.

Sony has done right by indie games, giving them an outlet on PSN, taking big risks with artsy titles like Flower and PixelJunk Eden. The publisher's latest indie outreach is Eufloria, another quiet, subtle game that blends elements of RPGs, space exploration, and RTS games with soothing visuals and a stellar ambient soundtrack.

Eufloria blossoms this June on PSN

Sony's Pub Fund project, which provides support to bring independently developed titles to the PSN without the help of a traditional publisher, has announced its next big release: Omni Systems' IGF-nominated artsy strategy title, Eufloria. The title has had its awfully vague 2011 launch window on PSN tightened up to a somewhat less vague "latter half of June," when it will hit the PlayStation Store for $9.99.

The game, which sees players inhabiting procedurally generated asteroid fields with spores in a strategic attempt to ... well, inhabit all the asteroids, is a port of the PC title of the same name. This time around, however, the game will have extra content, enhanced graphics, an extended soundtrack and improved AI -- all at about half of the game's PC price. To quote our favorite collegiate economics professor: "More stuff for less money? That's always a totally rad deal." (He wasn't very good at his job.)

Indie game Eufloria growing on PSN in 2011

Omni Systems' beautiful indie game Eufloria, once known as Dyson, will be released on the PlayStation Network (presumably for PS3) sometime in 2011. Eufloria is a strategy game of sorts, in which players grow "semi-organic" trees on asteroids, and then set those trees against AI opponents, all presented in a minimal visual style that the game's website calls "reminiscent of children's books like The Little Prince."

The PSN release will benefit from updated visuals, unspecified new mechanics and other new material. New tracks from original composer Brian Grainger will also be added to the game. "Considering the various improvements," Omni Systems says in the press release, "it may be more accurate to describe the PSN release as 'Eufloria++'."

If you'd like to get an idea of what the current Eufloria is like, a demo of the PC version is available.

Indie games bundled on the cheap for V-Day

So what if Sophie/Samuel didn't return your request for a weekend getaway to that little bed and breakfast in New Hampshire? Wouldn't you rather spend your weekend falling in love with a handful of indie games -- And Yet it Moves, Auditorium, Aztaka, Eufloria, Machinarium, and Osmos -- from an all-star list of developers? We knew you'd see our point! Besides, it's only $20 -- that's way less than the price of two nights for two people at The Buttonwood Inn, not to mention a steal considering each game individually purchased would add up to 85 buckaroos. And hey, now you can spoil yourself with an extra large box of tissues and a matching ice cream tub.
