The Wii U's Google-powered maps app, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/14/wii-street-u-now-available-free-for-a-limited-time/">Wii Street U</a></em>, has just received an update, allowing users to take pictures of places and upload them to the Miiverse. The <em>Wii Street U</em> app launched in February as a free download on the Nintendo eShop.<br />
<br />
Once uploaded, you can add emotional tags to your images, to better describe the place in question. Phrases like "amazing," "fun" and "scary" can be used - the latter coming in especially handy the next time you upload a pic of <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gtdHsuRJnAg">the robot band at Chuck E. Cheese's</a>, we imagine. <p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/10/wii-street-u-gets-emotional-adds-miiverse-support/">Wii Street U gets emotional, adds Miiverse support</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 10 May 2013 21:30:00 EST. As was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/12/05/google-maps-and-panorama-view-coming-to-wii-u-in-japan-early-201/">previously announced</a>, the app allows users to navigate to a location on Google Maps, and then use the GamePad (and its various motion sensors) to view the Street View data for said location in a semi-realistic, one-to-one fashion.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/14/wii-street-u-now-available-free-for-a-limited-time/">Wii Street U now available, free for a limited time</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 14 Feb 2013 09:34:00 EST. Nintendo president Satoru Iwata showcased the apps during <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/12/05/watch-japans-wii-u-launch-nintendo-direct-right-here/">this morning's Nintendo Direct</a> for Japan, including giving us a helmet-cam angle of Panorama View with the above <em>very</em> stylish setup.<br /><br />Nintendo first unveiled Panorama View at <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/13/shigeru-miyamoto-on-how-the-wii-u-could-change-games/">this year's E3</a>. As shown by the post-break vid by our Engadget pals, the app plays pre-recorded videos set in various environments, such as a London bus tour or a scuba dive. The added twist is you can view the environments in all 360 of their degrees, this done by pointing the GamePad around like a camera. Panorama View is scheduled for Spring 2013 in Japan, and is expected to head West too.<br /><br />Iwata also unveiled Google Maps for Wii U, showing how its <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_Maps#Google_Street_View">Street View</a> functionality works with the GamePad in much the same way as Panorama View. The app is coming to Japan's eShop in late January, and will be free until the end of March.<br /><br /><strong>Update:</strong> Google Maps will hit the US eShop in Q1 of 2013.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/12/05/google-maps-and-panorama-view-coming-to-wii-u-in-japan-early-201/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Google Maps and Panorama View coming to Wii U in Japan next year [Update: US Maps date]</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/12/05/google-maps-and-panorama-view-coming-to-wii-u-in-japan-early-201/">Google Maps and Panorama View coming to Wii U in Japan next year [Update: US Maps date]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 05 Dec 2012 07:30:00 EST. Simply insert the cartridge into the system, remove it, blow into it, reinsert it back into the system, attach a phone line and you're ready to go. Google's cloud of servers compensate for the NES's lack of processing prowess, allowing for a quick, seamless experience.<br /><br />While Google Maps for NES has yet to begin shipping, a demo version is available at the <a href="http://maps.google.com">web-based Google Maps portal</a> -- just click on the Quest button on the top right to begin your adventure.<br /><br /><strong>Update</strong>: Rather than play along with these gags as they happen, we've decided instead to tag each April Fools' Day prank as such in the headline, in order to avoid as many dashed hopes as possible. For what its worth, we want this to be real as much as you do.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/31/google-maps-comes-to-the-nes/">Google Maps comes to ... the NES?! We know that most of you have probably memorized every square inch of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/grand-theft-auto-iv"><em>Grand Theft Auto 4</em></a>'s massive metropolitan playground, but for the less cartographically inclined, <a href="http://www.gta4.net/map/">GTA4.net</a> has created an invaluable resource. Using the Google Maps API and over 80,000 screenshots, the site has created an interactive, near-complete map of Rockstar's virtual New York City.<br />
<br />
The map's coolest feature is, hands down, its ability to look through each and every avenue of Liberty City using Street View, which makes locating each and every Burger Shot an absolute breeze. In fact, this feature is so neat, we hope they somehow find a way to put a map together for <em>L.A. Noire</em>'s setting! <a href="http://maps.google.com/maps?q=los+angeles&amp;um=1&amp;ie=UTF-8&amp;sa=N&amp;hl=en&amp;tab=wl">Oh, wait</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/30/grand-theft-auto-4s-liberty-city-mapped-in-google-street-view/">Grand Theft Auto 4's Liberty City mapped in Google Street View</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 30 May 2011 21:15:00 EST. Oh, Google, whatever would we do without you? Well, for one, we <em>wouldn't </em>have the exhaustively annotated map that <a href="http://planetfallout.gamespy.com/maps/1/Capital-Wasteland">Planet Fallout</a> has created for the Capital Wasteland from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/fallout-3"><em>Fallout 3</em></a>. Or, more aptly, the site's <em>users </em>have created.<br /><br />A constant work-in-progress, the fully interactive map displays major locations, quest objectives, and plenty of other spoiler-rific goodies - so be warned. We're especially fond of the potential for players to contribute interesting miscellany and Easter Eggs. Plus, if you do, you get credit for it. As a Vault-Tec recording might say, "That's just swell!"<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://arstechnica.com/journals/thumbs.ars/2008/11/18/trek-fallout-3-efficiently-with-google-maps">ars technica</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/19/google-map-to-the-fallout-3-wasteland/">Google map to the Fallout 3 Wasteland</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 19 Nov 2008 22:30:00 EST.
