<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/zero-punctuation/">Zero Punctuation</a> takes on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gta-iv"><span style="font-style: italic;">Grand Theft Auto IV</span></a> this week, but if you're <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/07/ny-times-gta-iv-snatches-500-million-in-first-week/">one of the five people</a> who didn't buy the game and are hoping for some ZP hate-fest on par with the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/23/zero-punctuation-beats-up-smash-bros-brawl-youre-surprised/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Super Smash Bros. Yahtzee doesn't exactly suck <span style="font-style: italic;">GTA IV</span>'s "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/14/nsfw-sonys-euro-ps3-thumb-for-a-penis-ad/">thumb</a>" -- like he does <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/17/zero-punctuation-likes-orange-box-but-loves-portal/">Valve's</a> -- but the issues he grasps onto are relatively minor points about getting lost in the side stuff. Not really full of his trademark, hyperbolic bile then. Shockingly, he even says that after finishing the review, he went back and played the game some more. It appears Niko Bellic has found a friend in Yahtzee.<br /><br />Find this week's NSFW <a href="http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/editorials/zeropunctuation/4902-Zero-Punctuation-Grand-Theft-Auto-IV">relative non-hate review</a> of <span style="font-style: italic;">GTA IV</span> after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/14/zero-punctuation-enjoys-grand-theft-auto-rotica/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Zero Punctuation enjoys Grand Theft Auto-rotica</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/14/zero-punctuation-enjoys-grand-theft-auto-rotica/">Zero Punctuation enjoys Grand Theft Auto-rotica</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 14 May 2008 16:45:00 EST. The PlayStation 3 has forced us to become accustomed to having to endure lengthy installations prior to being able to sit down and play a game, a fact made all the more aggravating for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/Grand-Theft-Auto-IV"><span style="font-style: italic;">Grand Theft Auto IV</span></a>, both because of the already overflowing anticipation as well as the aftertaste of having been up for multiple hours elbow to elbow with fellow players waiting for the opportunity to play the game. <br /><br />But there's little use in complaining at this point, so I took the opportunity to make me some tea and a sandwich as I prepared for what was to be a memorable evening that would mark my first visit to Liberty City ... <em>ever</em>.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/grand-theft-auto-iv/">Grand Theft Auto IV</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/grand-theft-auto-iv/#539371"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/12/gta4-018_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/grand-theft-auto-iv/#539372"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/12/gta4-019_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/grand-theft-auto-iv/#539373"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/12/gta4-020_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/grand-theft-auto-iv/#253556"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/05/gtaiv-0525-09_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/grand-theft-auto-iv/#539374"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/12/gta4-021_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/29/grand-theft-auto-iv-impressions-a-stranger-in-liberty-city/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Grand Theft Auto IV impressions: A stranger in Liberty City</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/29/grand-theft-auto-iv-impressions-a-stranger-in-liberty-city/">Grand Theft Auto IV impressions: A stranger in Liberty City</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 29 Apr 2008 12:58:00 EST. Given the nearly unquantifiable level of anticipation building up to the midnight unveiling of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gtaiv">Rockstar's opus</a>, it seemed prudent to roll up to the local Broken Arrow, OK Gamestop well in advance of the game's release. All of the preparation went for naught, however, as the store kept its doors open all night as enthusiasts congregated inside, joked in the secret language that only we nerds can appreciate, and not-so-quietly chatted about the game they would very soon be playing.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/29/grand-line-auto-a-diverse-gathering-broken-arrow-edition/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Grand Line Auto: A diverse gathering (Broken Arrow edition)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/29/grand-line-auto-a-diverse-gathering-broken-arrow-edition/">Grand Line Auto: A diverse gathering (Broken Arrow edition)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 29 Apr 2008 04:00:00 EST. We truly appreciate all the tips about the early release letters allegedly sent by Rockstar and Take-Two telling retailers to just go ahead and release <em>GTA IV</em> to the public ... problem is, it just ain't true. That's it, no need to get into details. The letters are nothing but fakes.<br /><br />Trust us, if <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/Grand-Theft-Auto-IV/"><em>GTA IV</em></a> was given the green light to release early, the <strike>country</strike> planet would certainly know about it within an hour. The deceitful documents can be found in their entirety for perusal below.<br />

As our <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/Grand-Theft-Auto-IV/">coverage</a> continues on the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/Smash-Bros-Brawl/">second</a> mega-release this year, Best Buy has posted its list of midnight store openings for the <span style="font-style: italic;">Grand Theft Auto IV </span>launch. We've placed the list after the break, and the <a href="http://www.bestbuy.com/site//olspage.jsp?id=pcmcat150400050036&amp;type=category">Best Buy site</a> has maps to the locations for those who need it.<br /><br />We don't have explicit details how the Best Buy midnight launch should go -- <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/22/wal-marts-gta-iv-launch-details/">like we do for Wal-Mart </a>-- but it's best to show up early Monday evening. Plus, the company states that there'll be "<span style="font-weight: bold;"></span><span class="Body"><span style="font-style: italic;">Grand Theft Auto</span>-related giveaways, but quantities will be limited." And just to prove how non-highfalutin of a site we really are, this blogger will be standing in line at the Dedham, Mass., store taking pics and waiting to get his copy just like everyone else.<br /></span><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/23/best-buys-gta-iv-midnight-opening-list/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Best Buy's GTA IV midnight opening list</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/23/best-buys-gta-iv-midnight-opening-list/">Best Buy's GTA IV midnight opening list</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 23 Apr 2008 13:00:00 EST. We <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/07/rumor-swedish-retailer-reveals-gta-iv-ps3-bundle/">knew it was coming</a>, but now we have a fancy press release in our inbox confirming it. Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has officially announced a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gta-iv"><em>Grand Theft Auto IV</em></a> bundle "exclusively" for the PlayStation 3. As you might expect, the bundle's release will coincide with that of the carjacking, city-wrecking romp on April 29th. The &euro;439 (RRP) package will contain a 40GB PlayStation 3, a Sixaxis controller and ... we forget what the other thing was.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/23/scee-confirms-grand-theft-auto-iv-ps3-bundle/">SCEE confirms Grand Theft Auto IV PS3 bundle for Europe</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 23 Apr 2008 09:00:00 EST. Using Chicago's street violence as a springboard, the city's <a href="http://www.myfoxchicago.com/myfox/pages/News/Detail?contentId=6353524&amp;version=1&amp;locale=EN-US&amp;layoutCode=VSTY&amp;pageId=3.1.1">FOX affiliate</a> aired a piece about <em>Grand Theft Auto IV</em> ads on the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA). Thanks to the report, all the <em>GTA IV</em> advertising will now be removed. <br /><br />As <a href="http://gamepolitics.com/2008/04/21/gta-iv-ads-to-be-pulled-from-buses-as-transit-authority-caves-to-pressure/">GamePolitics</a> points out, the ads do not depict any scenes of violence and it's currently unknown what the CTA's policy is on advertising R-rated movies; the CTA also stopped an ad campaign back in 2004 for <em>GTA: San Andreas</em>. Boston, Denver and Portland, Oregon, have had <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/30/the-political-game-throwing-free-speech-under-the-bus">similar issues</a> with <em>GTA</em> ads on its public transportation system. Ironically, the FOX affiliate promotes alcohol on its website (picture after the break). Wonder how many people died of alcohol related incidents in Chicago this weekend?<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://gamepolitics.com/2008/04/21/gta-iv-ads-to-be-pulled-from-buses-as-transit-authority-caves-to-pressure/">GamePolitics</a>]<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/21/chicago-transit-bans-gta-iv-ads/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Chicago transit bans GTA IV ads</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/21/chicago-transit-bans-gta-iv-ads/">Chicago transit bans GTA IV ads</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 21 Apr 2008 10:45:00 EST. The latest, Microsoft-endorsed, <em>Grand Theft Auto IV</em> special edition issue of <a href="http://www.computerandvideogames.com/">Computer and Video Games</a> magazine suggests that the 360 DLC is to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/14/first-grand-theft-auto-iv-review-perfect-10/">the perfect scoring <em>GTA IV</em></a> as "Vice City or San Andreas were [to] GTA III," and later, in simpler terms, "<a href="http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3167463">Rockstar is clearly hinting at new downloadable cities" for the title</a>.<br /><br />While this infinitely awesome feature might be technically and fiscally possible, we must keep a firm grasp on our cynically-tinted monocles until official confirmation arises. Still, it's tough not to wonder what cities Rockstar could build knock-off replicas of to add to their latest title -- perhaps <a href="http://www.atlanticcitynj.com/">an Atlantic City clone</a>? A geographically-appropriate rendering of New Jersey? A mock-up of the bustling metropolis of Mud Lick, KY? The possibilities are endless!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/19/rumor-gta-iv-dlc-may-include-entirely-new-cities/">Rumor: GTA IV DLC may include entirely new cities</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 19 Apr 2008 21:00:00 EST. <em>Grand Theft Auto IV</em> has gone gold and is "en route" to stores, which means any fears of an <a href="http://www.gamespot.com/news/6189477.html">eleventh hour delay</a> for the game can be squashed like a snitch's head in a vice. So, if you've got a friend working in retail who's got access to the stock room -- now's the time to tell them how much you love them!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/18/gta-iv-is-gold-and-en-route-to-stores/">GTA IV is gold and 'en route' to stores</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 18 Apr 2008 13:00:00 EST. Rockstar Games' <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/27/track-your-gta-iv-stats-with-rockstar-games-social-club/">Social Club</a> is now open for <a href="https://socialclub.rockstargames.com/">pre-registration</a> before the site fully launches on April 29. All the site requires is your email address <strike>to sell to third parties</strike>, age (kids, make sure to lie) and zip code. As a bonus, those who pre-register will automatically be entered in a drawing for a <strike>drawing</strike> portrait to be created of their likeness in the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/Grand-Theft-Auto-IV/"><em>GTA IV</em></a> art style. <a href="http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117984089.html?categoryid=20&amp;cs=1">Variety</a> has been told by "sources close to publisher Take-Two Interactive" that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gtaiv"><em>Grand Theft Auto IV</em></a> is expected to earn $400 million in its first week on sale, handily trumping Master Chief's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/04/halo-3-makes-300-million-in-one-week/">$300 million space hoop</a> slam dunk. Reportedly based on retailer orders, the prediction sees six million gamers purchasing Rockstar's latest during the week of April 29 and contributing to "possibly the biggest debut ever for an entertainment product." Unsurprisingly, this matches the positive outlook shared by several analysts, with Michael Pachter predicting <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/12/pachter-gta-iv-could-sell-9-million-units-by-halloween/">9 million sales by Halloween</a>. Our recent (thoroughly unscientific) poll found that more gamers were leaning towards the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/14/poll-results-achievements-dlc-main-reason-to-pick-gta-iv-for-x/">Xbox 360 version</a>.<br /><br />As for Take-Two's alleged predictions, such results will likely prompt the publisher to invest in a moat around its castle -- perfect for warding off <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/26/take-two-board-rejects-eas-inadequate-tender-offer/">pesky invaders</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/16/variety-gta-iv-expected-to-make-400m-in-first-week/">Variety: GTA IV expected to make $400M in first week</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 16 Apr 2008 08:30:00 EST. In case you've been living under a very large rock surrounded by an even larger rock structure, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/Grand-Theft-Auto-IV/">Grand Theft Auto IV</a> </em>is expected to come out at the end of the month. (Barring any accurate <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/06/pachter-ea-could-delay-gta-ivs-april-29-release/">Pachter predictions</a>, of course). We're conducting a network-wide poll with our friends at X3F and PS3 Fanboy to see for which platform you're planning to purchase the game. Be sure to tell us your reasoning in the comments below.<br /><br /><!-- // Begin Pollhost.com Poll Code // -->

Rockstar has assured Australian gamers that the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/04/gta-iv-edited-for-australia/">edited version</a> of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gta-iv">Grand Theft Auto IV</a>,</em> chopped up to better fit the country's highest possible rating of MA15+, will not alter the experience in a "significant" way. Rockstar <a href="http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/rockstar-calls-for-18-rating-in-australia">explained</a>, "While there are some minor differences between the Australian and US/EU versions, they are not significant and we do not believe they take away from the level of scope and detail that make GTA IV such an incredible experience." <br /><br />As incredible as said experience is, the controversial company still recommended that Australia's Office of Film and Literature Classification implement an R18+ rating in order to avoid these allegedly insignificant edits. "We strongly support the OFLC and will continue to work within their guidelines; however we believe the government needs to bring games in line with other media by introducing an R18+ rating, or edits to games will continue to be necessary," said Rockstar. <br /><br />Once the game finds its way into Australian hands, we're sure to discover just which aspects of the game wound up on the chopping bloc.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/10/rockstar-stands-behind-australian-gta-iv-edits-calls-for-18-r/">Rockstar stands behind Australian GTA IV edits, calls for '18' rating</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 10 Apr 2008 07:40:00 EST. Can someone be envied <em>to death?</em><br /><br />Fulfilling his civic duty as a gaming journalist, Taylor gave <a href="http://www.gamesradar.com/f/hes-finished-grand-theft-auto-iv/a-2008040412432960029">his impressions of the complete work in a spoiler-free interview with GamesRadar</a> -- unsurprisingly, <em>he was a fan</em>. The fourth installment apparently "craps on all the others" in the franchise, and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/28/gtaiv-trailer-2-looking-for-that-special-someone/">the main character, Niko Bellic</a>, is "most amazing protagonist in any game [he's] ever played." We suggest perusing the remainder of his colorful commentary to help pass the remaining twenty-three days and nine hours until the game lands in our quivering, anticipatory laps.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/05/gta-iv-better-than-all-the-hype-suggests-according-to-first-pe/">GTA IV 'better than all the hype suggests' according to first person to complete the game</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 05 Apr 2008 15:00:00 EST. This bit of news is going to have an extra special meaning for all you Rockstar fans in Britain. After the whole debacle with the <a href="http://www.bbfc.co.uk/website/Classified.nsf/0/95CD81B1994B33258025741E004C8438?OpenDocument">British Board of Film Classification</a> (BBFC) <a style="" href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/14/manhunt-2-uk-ban-officially-lifted/">versus <em>Manhunt 2</em></a>, many of you may have worried about history repeating itself -- this time with the upcoming and equally controversial <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/grand-theft-auto-iv/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Grand Theft Auto IV</span></a>. However, your worries should stop here for the BBFC has already passed <span style="font-style: italic;">Grand Theft Auto IV</span> with an 18 certificate and with "no cuts made." <br /><br />This is excellent news for all those gamers in the UK looking forward to picking up <span style="font-style: italic;">GTAIV</span> this coming April 29. As it stands, there shouldn't be any other snags barring the game from its expected release date. <br /><br />[Thanks enfo! A French retail site has listed <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/Grand-Theft-Auto-IV"><em>Grand Theft Auto IV</em></a> for Nintendo DS on a sheet of upcoming releases. <a href="http://gonintendo.com/?p=39114">Tucked inconspicuously in between titles</a> like <em>Kung Fu Panda </em>and <em>Harvest Moon</em>, it's most likely that the listing of the game for DS is a slip-up, and not indicative of any "OMG"-worthy news. The possibility for a slip-up seems even more likely when <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-on-tour"><em>Guitar Hero: On Tour</em></a> is erroneously labeled as <em>Guitar Hero 3</em> on the same list.<br /><br />What stands out as a bit odd, however, is the listed release date of June 15, 2008, a far cry from the international release date of April 29 for the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/grand-theft-auto-iv">actually-real console version</a>. It's enough to give us pause, but not enough to keep us from breaking out the skeptical sauce. As awesome as a classic, top-down <em>GTA</em> on DS would be, we've got a feeling that it's just not in the cards.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/31/rumor-gta-iv-coming-to-ds/">Rumor: GTA IV coming to DS</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 31 Mar 2008 17:00:00 EST. Everybody's favorite forceful corporation courtship continues today, with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/EA/">EA</a> <a href="http://investor.ea.com/phoenix.zhtml?c=88189&amp;p=irol-newsArticle&amp;ID=1122964&amp;highlight=">announcing</a> an amendment to its <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/13/ea-makes-all-cash-tender-offer-to-purchase-take-two/">$26-per-share tender offer</a> issued on March 13th to the stockholders of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/27/grand-theft-auto-iv-good-lord-what-are-you-doing/"><em>Grand Theft Auto</em></a> publisher, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/26/family-album-take-two-interactive/">Take-Two</a>. A new condition appended to the offer requires either "that Take-Two's Board of Directors redeem the preferred stock purchase rights issued as a result of Take-Two's adoption on March 24, 2008 of the stockholder rights plan," or "that EA be satisfied that such rights have been invalidated or are otherwise inapplicable to its acquisition of Take-Two." The stockholder rights plan mentioned was instituted by Take-Two following its <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/26/take-two-board-rejects-eas-inadequate-tender-offer/">most recent snubbing</a> of EA's offer.<br /><br />EA also noted that it had extended said offer to 11:59PM New York City time on April 18th, 2008. The previous deadline was set for April 11th, though as of 5PM EST on Thursday, 27 March, "approximately <span class="modBodyTxt">5,000 shares of Take-Two had been tendered in </span><span class="modBodyTxt">and not withdrawn from the tender offer."<br /><br /></span>"The actions of the Take-Two Board may increase the risk for their stockholders by delaying a potential transaction," said Owen Mahoney, EA's senior VP of corporate development, no doubt whilst tapping on his diamond-encrusted wristwatch. "We continue to believe that our $26.00 per share offer price is full and fair, and that a transaction between Take-Two and EA is the most compelling combination financially, strategically and operationally for all parties."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/28/ea-amends-take-two-tender-offer-extends-deadline/">EA amends Take-Two tender offer, extends deadline</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 28 Mar 2008 09:00:00 EST. After reviewing EA's recent and "unsolicited" <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/13/ea-makes-all-cash-tender-offer-to-purchase-take-two/">tender offer</a> to nab shares<em> </em>in the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/GTAIV"><em>Grand Theft Auto</em></a> publisher at $26 a piece, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/take-two">Take-Two</a>'s board of directors has <a href="http://ir.take2games.com/ReleaseDetail.cfm?ReleaseID=301527">deemed</a> the maneuver "inadequate in multiple respects and contrary to the best interests of Take-Two's stockholders." The company heads imparted a similar sentiment two weeks ago when they <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/13/take-two-asks-shareholders-not-to-take-ea-offer/">asked stockholders</a> to resist EA's offer while they reviewed it and formulated an official "<em>hellz no</em>." <br /><br />The board continues to advise stockholders to hang on to their shares, claiming that the offer "substantially undervalues" the company and its "valuable franchises." Said Strauss Zelnick, chairman of the Take-Two board: "Our Board, after careful review, has unanimously determined that Electronic Arts' offer continues to provide insufficient value and remains opportunistically timed to capture the value of the upcoming Grand Theft Auto IV launch at the expense of our stockholders." He also expressed that the company will "review all available options" and remain focused on maximizing shareholder value.<br /><br />To this end, the board has suggested investigating "alternatives" to the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/EA/">EA</a> offer, "which may include a business combination of the Company with third parties or with EA, remaining independent, or other strategic or financial alternatives, that could deliver higher stockholder value than the EA Offer." Take-Two claims to have already prepared materials to facilitate "business combination transactions" with a number of other interested third parties, creating the impression that it would rather trade a hostile takeover for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/29/take-two-more-companies-want-to-buy-us/">an auction</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/26/take-two-board-rejects-eas-inadequate-tender-offer/">Take-Two board rejects EA's 'inadequate' tender offer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 26 Mar 2008 07:50:00 EST. In a recent test drive of <em>Grand Theft Auto IV</em>, <a href="http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2008/03/13/grand-theft-auto-iv-surprise-features-saturday-appointments-and-slow-mo-driving/">MTV's Multiplayer</a> discovered a couple new features for this go-around in Liberty City. One very passive feature is <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gta-iv">GTA IV</a></em> will have days of the week. So, instead of an endless cycle of night and day, there'll be an endless cycle of day and night split over seven infinitely repeating days. This will affect gameplay by only allowing Niko to access certain areas on specific days of the week. MTV says you don't have to worry about it turning into <em>Animal Crossing</em> though, the day/night cycle will be the same as other entries into the series -- meaning gamers won't need to mess with their system's internal clock.<br /><br />The other reveal is the use of a slo-mo while driving. <em>GTA</em> veterans can already imagine the advantages and cool factor this could have while avoiding traffic or trying to hit a stunt point perfectly. A very nice feature, but one we'll have to see for ourselves to get a better feel for when and where it can be used. <em>GTA IV</em> is still expected to hijack the sales charts beginning <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/24/grand-theft-auto-iv-dated-for-april-29/">April 29</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/14/gta-iv-drives-slo-mo-learns-days-of-the-week/">GTA IV drives slo-mo, learns days of the week</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 14 Mar 2008 13:35:00 EST. Beating the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/NPD/">NPD</a> Group to the forthcoming bad news punch, Greenberg told <a href="http://www.reuters.com/article/reutersEdge/idUSN1224707720080313?pageNumber=1&amp;virtualBrandChannel=0">Reuters</a> that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/16/microsoft-issues-reponse-to-360-shortages/">continued supply problems</a> would likely place the system behind Sony's monolith for the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/14/january-npd-ps3-and-ps2-top-360-everyone-down-for-the-month/">second month</a> in a row.<br /><br />"We definitely expect we will trail in February as a result of our supply constraints," said Greenberg. Things are expected to improve in April, however, with "a very healthy inventory situation" setting the table for <em>Grand Theft Auto IV</em>'s <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/12/pachter-gta-iv-could-sell-9-million-units-by-halloween/">trumpeted arrival</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/13/microsoft-expects-feb-360-sales-to-trail-ps3/">Microsoft expects Feb. 360 sales to trail PS3</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 13 Mar 2008 11:15:00 EST. Ending January 31, 2008, the quarter saw a net loss of $38 million, a $16.5 million increase compared to the previous year's $21.5 million loss for the same quarter. <br /><br />Net revenue for the three-month period was $240.4 million, a decrease from $277.3 million gained during the opening quarter of fiscal 2007. Key contributors to Take-Two's revenue were <em>BioShock</em>, the Wii's (and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/11/carnival-games-expands-to-ds-back-to-wii-with-carnival-games-m/">soon to be DS'</a>) <em>Carnival Games</em>, <em>NBA 2K8</em> and the good ol' <em>Grand Theft Auto</em> franchise. Unsurprisingly, the publisher predicts improved results once the felonious franchise reaches <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gtaiv">number four</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/11/take-two-posts-38m-loss-in-first-fiscal-quarter/">Take-Two posts $38M loss in first fiscal quarter</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 11 Mar 2008 18:57:00 EST. Responding to <em>Variety</em>'s outing of a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/grandtheftauto"><em>Grand Theft Auto</em></a> movie which <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/05/variety-grand-theft-auto-movie-almost-happened/">failed to get off the ground</a>, series developer Rockstar has told <a href="http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1580997/20080205/id_0.jhtml">MTV News</a> that it wasn't involved "in any way, shape or form." The company's VP of creativity, Dan Houser, said that Rockstar "never" considered moving ahead with such a project, as it was "no more interesting" than numerous other movie pitches it had received in the past. <br /><br />Variety's "The Cut Scene" blog reported that a "deal was virtually in place" between publisher Take-Two and a major film studio before talks suddenly fell apart for nebulous reasons. As for the prospect of future films based on the hit franchise, Houser insisted, "It is not something we are currently interested in." We can't say we're disappointed -- films based on games inspired by films make us feel like we're spinning in a very unoriginal washing machine.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/06/rockstar-denies-involvement-with-grand-theft-auto-movie/">Rockstar denies involvement with Grand Theft Auto movie</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 06 Feb 2008 10:45:00 EST. Starting its <a href="http://weblogs.variety.com/the_cut_scene/">new video game blog</a> off with a bang, <a href="http://weblogs.variety.com/the_cut_scene/2008/02/the-grand-theft.html">Variety</a> reports that last spring a <em>Grand Theft Auto</em> movie was almost ready to roll into full production. The story goes that after years of trying, some studio actually navigated the bureaucracy of Take-Two/Rockstar and was ready to start production -- "quite possibly" with Eminem as the star. The reason this even came to be after so many years of stonewalling by <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gta"><em>GTA</em></a>'s rights holders is that current Take-Two chair, Strauss Zelnick, comes from traditional media at BMG music and 20th Century Fox.<br /><br />Variety goes on to say that the movie was so close to being finalized that its own reporters were prepping stories, with sources at Take-Two saying it was a done deal. At the last moment though, the whole thing fell allegedly apart after the publisher couldn't finalize terms with the studio. Whether it was an issue about money or giving away the movie rights (Rockstar is very protective of its brand) is still an unanswered question. Oh well, we've gotten used to movies based on modern mega-franchise games <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/10/20/game-over-for-halo-movie/">falling apart</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/05/variety-grand-theft-auto-movie-almost-happened/">Variety: Grand Theft Auto movie almost happened</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 05 Feb 2008 10:30:00 EST. Can you prove to some lawyers that you were traumatized by the insidious insertion of polygonal sexual activity into your violent killing sprees? If so, you'll be interested in Take-Two's recently erected website <a href="http://www.gtasettlement.com/">detailing the benefits</a> of its <em>Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas</em> class action settlement.<br /><br />The settlement offers different levels of possible compensation depending on the proof violated consumers have to offer: An original, pre-scandal copy of the game "may" net you a neutered replacement disc; a detailed store receipt "may" result in a $35 cash payment; a credit card statement or check is worth $17.50; and a disc without receipt gets you $10. <br /><br />If you have no receipt and no game, you stand to earn a whopping $5 for promising under penalty of perjury, <em>cross your heart and hope to die</em>, that you at one point purchased and played the offending game. However, with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/24/grand-theft-auto-iv-dated-for-april-29/">last week's announcement of a late-April release date</a> for <em>Grand Theft Auto IV</em> came Thompson's mandatory adverse response to the series, and negativity towards Take Two, the game's distributor.<br /><br />Contained within <a href="http://gamepolitics.com/2008/01/27/gta-iv-gets-dated-triggers-obligatory-jack-thompson-threat/">an email from Thompson were promises</a> to keep this "murder simulator for violence against women, cops, and innocent bystanders" out of the hands of children by contacting "state and federal officials" to warn of the game's immediate danger. Though no immediate threats were made towards Take Two or Rockstar Games, we're sure the fireworks will really start going off by the time <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/GTAIV/">GTA IV</a></em> drops April 29 -- which just happens to be around the same time the outcome of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/04/jack-thompsons-further-florida-bar-issues/">Thompson's Florida Bar trial</a> will be decided.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/27/jack-thompson-rears-head-in-response-to-gta-iv-release-date/">Jack Thompson rears head in response to GTA IV release date</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 27 Jan 2008 20:00:00 EST. Gametrailers user Brotha has <a href="http://www.gametrailers.com/player/usermovies/80965.html">recreated</a> the second <em>Grand Theft Auto IV </em>trailer in <em>GTA III: San Andreas. </em>While we're impressed by the endeavor, the video has actually made us more eager to get our hands on the upcoming violent sandbox sequel by showcasing the visual improvements in the series. <br /><br />We've embedded the original video after the break, if you want to try and synchronize them. Gamers were upset (to say the least) about <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/02/gta-iv-gets-delayed-till-second-quarter-08/"><em>Grand Theft Auto IV</em>'s delay</a> into the next year. Take-Two didn't offer any real explanation for the delay, stating the reason is "almost strictly because of technological challenges."<br /><br />Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst Michael Pachter <a href="http://biz.gamedaily.com/industry/feature/?id=17026">explains</a> that the reason for <em>GTA</em>'s untimely appearance is due to Rockstar's lack of experience with the PS3: "We think it is likely that the Rockstar team had difficulty in building an exceptionally complicated game for the PS3, and failed to recognize how far away from completion the game truly was until recently." It's true that Rockstar has more experience with the Xbox 360 hardware, thanks to their <em>Table Tennis</em> game. All footage of the game we've seen so far was running on Xbox tech, which hints at possible negligence when developing the PS3 version. Even if the Xbox 360 version was further along in development, it appears that Take-Two simply might not have had any choice but to delay both versions of the game: "We think it is also likely that Take-Two had a contractual commitment to Sony that it would not favor competitor Microsoft by launching the Xbox 360 version of <em>GTA IV</em> prior to launching the PS3 version, and believe that any delay of the PS3 version necessitated a delay of the Xbox 360 version."<br /><br />This is Rockstar's first attempt at making a multi-platform "next gen" game. A game as large as <em>GTA IV</em> is undoubtedly a beast to program, and Rockstar may have failed to recognize the added work of developing for two platforms simultaneously. As N'Gai Croal from Newsweek <a href="http://blog.newsweek.com/blogs/levelup/archive/2007/08/02/speculation-on-the-factors-behind-gta-iv-delay.aspx">points out</a>, "It wouldn't surprise us if Rockstar and Take-Two had already all-but-delayed the PS3 version to triage the Xbox 360 version for this holiday, only to have their hands forced when, at yesterday's product review, it became clear to both sides that even the 360 version could not be completed this year to Rockstar's exacting standards."<br /><br />Regardless of what the "real" reason for the delay is, we're glad to see that Rockstar has more time to work on both the 360 and PS3 versions of the game. We certainly want the game to be as polished as it can be.<br /><br /><a href="http://biz.gamedaily.com/industry/feature/?id=17026">Read</a> - Michael Pachter, Wedbush Morgan Securities<br /><a href="http://blog.newsweek.com/blogs/levelup/archive/2007/08/02/speculation-on-the-factors-behind-gta-iv-delay.aspx">Read</a> - N'Gai Croal, Newsweek<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/03/rockstar-failed-to-realize-difficulties-of-making-ps3-gta/">Rockstar failed to realize difficulties of making PS3 GTA</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 03 Aug 2007 11:45:00 EST. Take 2 Interactive just <a href="http://ir.take2games.com/ReleaseDetail.cfm?ReleaseID=258238">announced</a> that <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/GrandTheftAutoIV/">Grand Theft Auto IV</a></em> will be <strong>delayed</strong> until 2008's second fiscal quarter, to compensate for some development processes that have taken longer than anticipated. The release confirms that this is taking place for both consoles, so it should be expected than when a new firm date is announced, that the 360's will mirror the PS3's. <br /><br />There has been no word of what this means for the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/16/gta-iv-episodic-content-exclusive-to-the-360/">episodic content</a> under development for the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/26/only-gtaiv-on-360-is-complete-experience-says-rockstar/">360 version</a> of the game, as it was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/18/did-microsoft-pay-50-million-for-gta-iv-content/">initially scheduled</a> for a second quarter release in 2008. While we are saddened that we won't be experiencing Rockstar North's grand opus this holiday, our wallets definitely feel the pressure being lifted, if only slightly. We'll have to wait and see how this affects Microsoft's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/10/engadget-and-joystiq-live-from-microsofts-e3-2007-keynote/">projected game sales</a> this holiday, as 2004 may still remain top dog with the absence of <em>GTAIV</em> in October.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/02/grand-theft-auto-iv-delayed-from-oct-to-fiscal-q2-08/">Joystiq</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/02/gtaiv-delayed-until-2008s-second-quarter/">GTAIV delayed until 2008's second quarter</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 02 Aug 2007 17:45:00 EST. The latest episode of Spike TV's <a href="http://www.gametrailers.com/gamehead.php">Game Head</a>, however, reveals that perhaps they had a plan all along. SCEA president <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/jacktretton">Jack Tretton</a> pulled that curtain back for host <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geoff_Keighley">Geoff Keighley</a>, casually mentioning that Rockstar has made an exclusive agreement to bring "their next big franchise" to the PlayStation 3 and no, he's not talking about <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/10/09/trailer-for-rockstars-la-noire-is-ellroy-esque/"><em>L.A. Noire</em></a>.<br /><br />Shortly before the show hit the tubes, SCEA's director of 3rd party relations, Michael Shorrock, <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2007/07/27/new-rockstar-games-franchise-exclusive-to-the-ps3/">confirmed</a> this statement on the official US PlayStation blog adding, "Rockstar really wanted to make a game that you can truly only do on PS3, harnessing the power of CELL and Blu-ray disc and this deal lets them do just that.. This is really a win-win situation for both companies."<br /><br />So what is it exactly? Sony has made an agreement with Rockstar to say no more concerning the deal nor the title involved. From a developer that has tackled everything from gang violence to ping pong, your guess is as good as ours.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/28/rockstar-to-develop-brand-new-franchise-exclusively-for-playst/">Rockstar to develop brand new franchise exclusively for PlayStation 3</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 28 Jul 2007 04:55:00 EST. When asked about the Xbox 360 <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/16/gta-iv-episodic-content-exclusive-to-the-360/">exclusive</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/18/did-microsoft-pay-50-million-for-gta-iv-content/">episodes</a> and whether or not the PS3 version would receive any similar perks, Simon replied, "not that I can think of." Simon elaborates that the games are identical, and that Rockstar does its best to make games that can be enjoyed on any console. "We're not like a pawn between these [hardware] companies," said Simon. That said, Simon admitted, "But I guess if you want the complete experience with the episodes, then yeah, you should buy the 360, I suppose."<br /><br />We must mention -- along with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/26/rockstar-only-gta-iv-on-xbox-has-complete-experience/">Joystiq</a> -- that the term "exclusive" has become more and more loosely defined over the years. We have to wonder if the Playstation 3 will ever pick up the episodes as well. Whether or not this comes to pass, it will be interesting to see if the initial promise of exclusive downloadable content will make <em>GTA</em> fans pick one version over the other.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/26/rockstar-only-gta-iv-on-xbox-has-complete-experience/">Joystiq</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/26/only-gtaiv-on-360-is-complete-experience-says-rockstar/">Only GTAIV on 360 is complete experience, says Rockstar</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 26 Jul 2007 15:00:00 EST. <br />After a pretty <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/24/worldwide-playstation-3-releases-for-the-week-of-june-25th/">killer week</a> for boxed game releases, the PSN is also doing its part to beef up the PlayStation argument. This week we have a game, a demo, a major trailer and some other accompanying fancies. No PS1 games, though. They've all been funneled into the Japanese PSN store. Not that we mind. We've got more than enough to keep us busy. <em>Super Stardust HD</em> is one of those games that popped up a couple of weeks ago yelling "I'm going to be amazing. Buy me." The full release list is as follows.<br />
