Turns out that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/01/hudson-new-bloody-roar-title-in-production/"><em>Bloody Roar</em> announcement</a> from the "Hudson" Twitter account last week was a fake. As <a href="http://www.gamesetwatch.com/2011/10/bloody_roar_5_announcement_was.php">GameSetWatch</a> notes, the ruse was exposed when the account tweeted what was supposed to be the first image, but was actually an image stating "You all been trolled!" It turns out this fake Hudson Twitter account committed itself to a <a href="http://twitter.com/#!/HudsonSoftLtd">very long con</a> for the purpose of messing with <em>Bloody Roar</em> fans.<br />
<br />
There is apparently a <a href="http://twitter.com/#!/hudsonsoft">real Hudson Twitter account</a>, but it hasn't been used since 2010. When we contacted Hudson <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/23/hudsons-final-years-detailed-by-insider/">parent company</a> Konami for comment, the publisher simply told us it was "looking into this."<br />
<br />
Sorry, <em>Bloody Roar</em> fans.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/04/bloody-roar-announcement-was-a-fake/">Bloody Roar announcement was a fake</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 04 Oct 2011 14:00:00 EST. The fighting game renaissance is in full swing, with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/13/mortal-kombat-sells-close-to-3-million-worldwide-has-paid-for/">massively successful titles</a> still in the rear-view mirror, and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/19/street-fighter-x-tekken-set-for-spring-2012-with-totally-upgr/">highly anticipated fighters</a> coming <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/20/ultimate-marvel-vs-capcom-3-lands-in-november-adds-strider-gh/">strong and steady</a> in the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/27/king-of-fighters-13-delayed-until-november/">near future</a> and beyond. <em>The soul still burns</em>, or something, so it makes perfect sense for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/hudson">Hudson</a> to announce the production of a new Bloody Roar title <a href="http://twitter.com/#!/HudsonSoftLtd/status/119880429175185408">via Twitter</a>.<br />
<br />
No other concrete information is available as of yet, but the #BloodyRoarProject2012 and #BloodyRoar5 hashtags used in the tweet are implicit enough to get the rumor mill running at full till. Bloody Roar, if you'll recall, is the Tekken-esque 3D fighting series characterized by its transforming, anthropomorphized animal fighters, which has been dormant since 2003's <em>Bloody Roar 4</em>. Also dormant? Our ability to see, thanks to Hudson's blinding font colors.<br />
<br />

After the break, you can find the full list of 125 cars in the upcoming <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/driver-san-francisco"><em>Driver: San Francisco</em></a>, from the classic 1951 Hudson Hornet to the Pagani Zonda Cinque. Above, you can watch a few of those cars flinging themselves around at speeds that seem<em> inappropriate </em>for crowded cities.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/08/full-driver-san-francisco-car-list-has-two-spiders-two-beatles/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Full Driver: San Francisco car list has two Spiders, two Beetles and a Hornet</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/08/full-driver-san-francisco-car-list-has-two-spiders-two-beatles/">Full Driver: San Francisco car list has two Spiders, two Beetles and a Hornet</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 08 Jul 2011 03:00:00 EST. Few single-studio careers in the gaming industry have been as lengthy or illustrious as that of Hudson's Toshiyuki Takahashi. He's something of a folk hero at the company, having appeared in the classic <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/adventure-island"><em>Adventure Island</em></a> series as Master Higgins, and having become known for his uncanny ability to hit an NES button 16 times per second. He's accumulated no small amount of prestige while working at Hudson -- but in a recent post on his personal blog (as translated by <a href="http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2011/05/23/takahashi_hudson/">Andriasang</a>), he announced he's leaving the company at the end of this month, ending his 26-year tenure with Hudson.<br />
<br />
Takahashi didn't explain his reasons for leaving the company, or where he'd end up at next. Considering his announcement's proximity to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/20/konami-taking-full-control-of-hudson/">Konami's acquisition and trimming</a> of Hudson, we'd wager that has something to do with it. Then again, we shouldn't jump to conclusions. He might just be taking some time off to focus on his other interests, like skateboarding on clouds while collecting floating fruit, or rescuing princesses from nefarious, reptilian foes.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/23/toshiyuki-takahashi-aka-master-higgins-to-leave-hudson/">Toshiyuki Takahashi (aka Master Higgins) to leave Hudson</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 23 May 2011 19:35:00 EST. The total <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/20/konami-taking-full-control-of-hudson/">absorption</a> of Hudson into Konami hasn't stopped the company from embarking on new projects with awesome titles. A new rating has popped up on the Australian classification database for something called <em>Nightmare Dinosaur</em>, developed by Hudson Soft in Japan and published by Konami.<br />
<br />
Hudson hasn't released anything under this name in Japan -- or, as far as we can tell, anything for which this name could be used. And since the classification board doesn't list a platform, basically all we know about this game at this point is that it's called Nightmare Dinosaur. Which is kind of enough.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/05/hudsons-nightmare-dinosaur-found-on-ratings-database/">Hudson's 'Nightmare Dinosaur' found on ratings database</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 05 May 2011 12:50:00 EST. Kojima Productions head and, of course, <em>Metal Gear</em> creator Hideo Kojima has been promoted to a vice president and corporate officer role for Konami Digital Entertainment (the game development and publishing division of Konami Corporation), effective April 1 -- while maintaining his more prestigious title of "Hideo Kojima." The other Konami producer whose games actually sell, <em>Pro Evolution Soccer's</em> Shinji Enomoto, has been promoted to the same position, as well.<br />
<br />
The new appointments come as part of a <a href="http://www.konami.co.jp/en/news/release/2011/0330/">wave</a> of executive shuffling, likely predicated by Konami's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/20/konami-taking-full-control-of-hudson/">absorption of Hudson Soft</a>. In fact, Konami's Kazuhiko Uehara is taking over the presidency of Hudson during this round of corporate musical chairs.<br />

This week's Famitsu notes that several Hudson 3DS titles have been canned, according to <a href="http://www.andriasang.com/e/posts/2011/03/23/270165/">Andriasang</a>. The current list includes some of the planned 3DS titles like <em>Bomberman</em>, <em>Bonk</em> and <em>Omega Five</em>, which were all <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/18/hudson-also-planning-bonk-and-tetris-for-3ds/">announced last October</a>.<br />
<br />
Hudson has gone through a serious <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/23/hudsons-final-years-detailed-by-insider/">shift</a></em> since the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/20/konami-taking-full-control-of-hudson/">Konami takeover</a> earlier this year. Konami is set to take full control of the company and replace Hudson's CEO with its own next week.<br />
<br />
<strong>Update</strong>: A Konami spokesperson tells <a href="http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2011/03/bomberman-3ds/">Wired</a> the publisher hasn't "distributed any official list of Hudson products yet."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/23/hudson-3ds-titles-listed-as-canceled-in-latest-famitsu/">Hudson 3DS titles listed as canceled in latest Famitsu</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 23 Mar 2011 09:30:00 EST. In about a month, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hudson_Soft">Hudson</a> will likely be nothing more than a brand name, having been fully absorbed by <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/20/konami-taking-full-control-of-hudson/#comments">Konami</a>. In a post on <a href="http://thekartel.com/news/the-kartel/17662530-the-downfall-of-hudson-a-behind-the-scenes-look.html">The Kartel</a>, John "Master" Lee, who wore a couple of hats at US-based Hudson Entertainment -- including former VP of sales and marketing, and general manager of games publishing -- explains in his own words the "downfall" of the company.<br />
<br />
Lee, who was employed at Hudson Entertainment from 2006 until 2009, and continued working with the company after he left, gives a detailed account of Hudson's US division's rise and fall. He explains how the <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sGeUJFw8DKU&amp;t=2m22s">disaster</a> of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/05/hudson-admits-bomberman-act-zero-was-crap/"><em>Bomberman: Act Zero</em></a> came to be, why the US division started making good money for the company and how that attention eventually led Konami to make its final takeover. It's a good human account of the big business of gaming and cross-Pacific relations.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/23/hudsons-final-years-detailed-by-insider/">Hudson's final years detailed by insider</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 23 Feb 2011 22:30:00 EST. Konami is in the process of making <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Hudson/">Hudson</a> a wholly-owned subsidiary through a <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stock_swap">stock swap</a>. The <em>Metal Gear Solid</em> and <em>Castlevania</em> publisher currently owns a little over 50 percent of the company <em>Bomberman</em> built. Hudson's stock will be delisted and its CEO replaced at the end of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Konami/">Konami</a>'s fiscal year on March 31.<br />
<br />
Konami <a href="http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2011/01/20/konami_hudson_takeover/">reportedly</a> wants to absorb Hudson's know-how in the mobile space and its IP. There's also the expectation of name changes and a likelihood of redundancies as the business operations are combined.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/20/konami-taking-full-control-of-hudson/">Konami taking full control of Hudson</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 20 Jan 2011 13:20:00 EST. Last night's announcement of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/08/3ds-japanese-launch-lineup-announced-along-with-blazblue-for-la/">3DS' software release</a> schedule brought a number of surprises, including the reveal of titles such as <em>BlazBlue Continuum Shift 2</em>, <em>Tales of the Abyss</em> and <em>Raving Rabbids Travel in Time</em>. However, hidden deeper in the folds of <a href="http://www.nintendo.co.jp/3ds/software/summer2011.html">that manifest</a> are a few more heretofore unannounced games -- though only one of them rings our proverbial bell: <em>Tetris Axis</em>, a Hudson-developed installment in the brick-laying series due out in Japan this summer.<br />
<br />
We can only imagine exactly what twists on the franchise's tried-and-true gameplay this new installment will incorporate -- considering the availability of an extra dimension, we wouldn't be surprised if players now had to stack bricks up, down, left, right, in <em>and</em> out.<br type="_moz" /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/08/tetris-axis-other-3ds-titles-revealed-in-japanese-release-sched/">Tetris Axis, other 3DS titles revealed in Japanese release schedule</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 08 Jan 2011 13:30:00 EST. This month, as announced <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/27/turbografx-16-games-coming-to-north-american-psn/">last year</a>, PSN will host games from another vintage, relatively obscure console: the Turbografx-16. Hudson has listed a series of downloadable TG16 "Classics" -- currently available on Wii's Virtual Console service -- to be released throughout January on the Store, including <em>Bonk's Adventure</em>, <em>New Adventure Island</em> and the wonderful sci-fi pinball game <em>Alien Crush</em>.<br />
<br />
Ten titles in all have been announced, with the full list posted after the break. No particular dates or prices have been revealed, but there are only three more Tuesdays, and therefore three more PSN updates, left this month. We'll ask Hudson if it would be more specific.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/05/turbografx-classics-to-crush-psn-this-month/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>'TurboGrafx Classics' to crush PSN this month</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/05/turbografx-classics-to-crush-psn-this-month/">'TurboGrafx Classics' to crush PSN this month</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 05 Jan 2011 21:00:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/lost-in-shadow"><em>Lost in Shadow</em></a> isn't a bad game. At times, it soars. But it doesn't know when to quit. It begins as a cerebral platformer with an inspired gimmick, then keeps adding ill-advised play mechanics and new story beats when the main narrative thread has frayed. Like a stand-up comedian who lingers onstage long after the audience has stopped laughing, <em>Lost in Shadow</em>'s greatest achievement turns out to be how thoroughly it squanders its goodwill.<br />
<br />
It's a shame, because things start so well. A brief introductory sequence shows a boy's shadow severed from his body, and dumped from the top of a high tower. When the game begins, you find yourself controlling not the boy, but the shadow. This takes a bigger mental adjustment than you'd expect. Robust, three-dimensional objects float uselessly by in the foreground, while the real action is projected in two dimensions against the rear walls, deep in your field of vision. A simple enough idea, but powerful. You find yourself leaning forward in your seat, almost feeling your brain rewiring itself as you try to make sense of this dangerous world.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lost-in-shadow-10-8-10/">Lost in Shadow (10/8/10)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lost-in-shadow-10-8-10/#3468088"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/10/screenshot071_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lost-in-shadow-10-8-10/#3468089"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/10/screenshot072_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lost-in-shadow-10-8-10/#3468090"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/10/screenshot073_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lost-in-shadow-10-8-10/#3468091"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/10/screenshot074_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lost-in-shadow-10-8-10/#3468092"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/10/screenshot075_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/04/lost-in-shadow-review/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Lost in Shadow review: Succumbing to the dark side</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/04/lost-in-shadow-review/">Lost in Shadow review: Succumbing to the dark side</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 04 Jan 2011 15:00:00 EST. Hudson is (<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/29/turbografx-16-comes-to-iphone-unofficially/">officially</a>) bringing Turbografx-16 games to iPhone and iPod Touch "this winter" in a free TurboGrafx Gamebox app. It'll launch with a library of $3.99 games, and will include one, the Olympic-style <em><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Sports_Competition">World Sports Competition</a></em>, for free. Each day, Hudson will select one game from the library and make it available through the app for a free three-minute trial. <br />
<br />
Hudson didn't announce the initial lineup, but we're going to go out on a limb and guess it'll include <em>Bonk's Adventure</em> and <em>Military Madness</em>. And knowing that many people missed out on the TurboGrafx-16, we're happy to see the games being brought to such a popular platform.<br />
<br />
And there's the terrible part. Last time we checked, the iPhone continued not to have buttons. So that's $4 each for a potentially great game to be rendered <em>totally unplayable</em>.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/10/turbografx-16-emulation-app-coming-to-iphone/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>TurboGrafx-16 emulation app coming to iPhone</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/10/turbografx-16-emulation-app-coming-to-iphone/">TurboGrafx-16 emulation app coming to iPhone</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 10 Dec 2010 20:45:00 EST. Next Wednesday, December 8, Hudson will launch <em>Bomberman Live: Battlefest</em> on Xbox Live Arcade. It follows the original <em>Bomberman Live</em>, which has dished out more than 500,000 copies since launching in 2007, and sports multiplayer for up to eight players, four new game modes and five new power-ups.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/01/bomberman-live-battlefest-blows-up-xbla-on-december-8/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Bomberman Live: Battlefest blows up XBLA on December 8</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/01/bomberman-live-battlefest-blows-up-xbla-on-december-8/">Bomberman Live: Battlefest blows up XBLA on December 8</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 01 Dec 2010 09:00:00 EST. If you thought Hudson was stopping at <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/15/heres-the-list-of-every-3ds-game-in-development/"><em>Deca Sports</em>, <em>Kororinpa</em>, <em>Bomberman</em></a><em> </em>and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/11/famitsu-xbla-shmup-omega-five-coming-to-3ds/"><em>Omega Five</em></a> for the 3DS, think again! <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/2010/10/18/hudson-bringing-bonk-tetris-and-omega-five-to-3ds/">Siliconera</a> spotted two more planned 3DS titles on <a href="http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http%3A//www.hudson.co.jp/searches/result.php%3Fpf%3D3ds&amp;sl=ja&amp;tl=en&amp;hl=en&amp;ie=UTF-8">Hudson's website</a>, namely <em>Bonk </em>and <em>Tetris</em>. It's worth noting that Hudson already has <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/02/new-downloadable-bonk-bomberman-found-on-hudsons-website/"><em>Bonk: Brink of Extinction</em></a> (pictured) headed to WiiWare, XBLA and PSN at some point in the future. We're sure the simple 3D visuals would work out just fine on Nintendo's new handheld.<br />
<br />
And <em>Tetris</em> ... well, <em>Tetris</em> is <em>Tetris</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/18/hudson-also-planning-bonk-and-tetris-for-3ds/">Hudson also planning Bonk and Tetris for 3DS</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 18 Oct 2010 14:00:00 EST. I've played <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/lost-in-shadow">Lost in Shadow</a></em> twice so far at preview events, and both times I was <em>moved</em> to ask, "Could this game end up on other platforms -- XBLA and PSN perhaps?" Both times the game's representatives said no. <em>Lost in Shadow</em> is headed to Wii this January as a retail release, and that could be a real shame -- though the game is "aimed at kids, but enjoyable for adults as well," according to a pitchman, history suggests that this unique, beautiful, <em>third-party</em> platformer from Hudson is unlikely to be a sales hit. <br />
<br />
But for <em>Lost in Shadow</em>'s sake, let's hope Wii owners discover this possible gem -- they might just find a very pretty, endearing game with an interesting platforming twist.<br />

It's okay if you don't remember <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/omega-five">Omega Five</a></em>. The Natsume-developed side-scrolling shump hit XBLA (pictured) in early 2008 and has since shot into obscurity. According to <a href="http://www.famitsu.com/review/title/0000/0000/0006/8107/">Famitsu</a>, the game is set to appear on Nintendo 3DS in Japan during Spring 2011 -- where it'll probably make a more memorable bow among a launch lineup otherwise devoid of "traditional" shoot-em-ups.<br />
<br />
Hudson published <em>Omega Five</em> on XBLA. The company hasn't made a peep about the 3DS version, but we'll check in to see what -- if anything -- it has to say about a possible North American release.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/11/famitsu-xbla-shmup-omega-five-coming-to-3ds/">Famitsu: XBLA shmup Omega Five coming to 3DS</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 11 Oct 2010 23:00:00 EST. The <a href="http://www.esrb.org/ratings/synopsis.jsp?Certificate=29576&amp;searchkeyword=">content description</a> reveals such scintillating features as the option to "learn facts about a variety of different species," and the ability to "use rocks, plants, and coral formations to customize their tank." But it wasn't a hit on WiiWare for its engaging gameplay. <em>My Aquarium</em>'s appeal is in its function as a sort of customizable screensaver, which would only be enhanced by an HD port. <br />
<br />
Meanwhile, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/09/nintendoware-weekly-my-aquarium-2-enjoy-your-massage/">My Aquarium 2</a></em> was released on WiiWare today. Kind of weird timing for a reveal of a ported version of the original, which, we suppose, is why we're seeing an ESRB "leak" today and not an official Hudson announcement.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/10/esrb-hudson-setting-up-my-aquarium-on-ps3/">ESRB: Hudson setting up 'My Aquarium' on PS3</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 10 Aug 2010 03:30:00 EST. Unfortunately for those of us who want to play it <em>now now now</em>, the company is accomplishing this by <em>waiting it out</em>. <em>Lost in Shadow</em>, first revealed in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/05/hudson-sheds-light-on-new-wii-platformer-shadow-tower/">August 2009</a>, won't be in stores in North America until January 4, 2011.<br />
<br />
It's nice, then, that there's still more to learn about the game to keep us occupied. The latest trailer (after the break) and screens reveal mysterious gates that allow the player character, normally just a shadow, to take shape as some kind of light being, and move in 3D space.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lost-in-shadow-7-28/">Lost in Shadow (7/28/10)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lost-in-shadow-7-28/#3214719"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/07/lisscreenshot002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lost-in-shadow-7-28/#3214720"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/07/lisscreenshot003_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lost-in-shadow-7-28/#3214721"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/07/lisscreenshot004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lost-in-shadow-7-28/#3214722"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/07/lisscreenshot005_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lost-in-shadow-7-28/#3214723"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/07/lisscreenshot017_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/28/lost-in-shadow-lights-up-retail-in-january/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Lost in Shadow lights up retail in January</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/28/lost-in-shadow-lights-up-retail-in-january/">Lost in Shadow lights up retail in January</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 28 Jul 2010 18:40:00 EST. I was incredibly skeptical of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/lost-in-shadow"><em>Lost in Shadow</em></a> when I first picked up the controller. Sure, it may look like <em>Ico</em>, but it definitely doesn't play like it. While there's a lot to like about the Wii game -- especially its shadow manipulation gimmick, unique premise, and gorgeous art -- I walked away with some concern that the full experience may become stale.<br />
<br />
The story of <em>Lost in Shadow</em> is rather grim: a boy finds himself severed from his body, relegated to explore the realm of shadows. As he traverses a massive trap-filled tower, he earns more memories, becoming more whole. It takes 21 grams to make a spirit whole -- and that's your goal in this inventive platformer. To reclaim your soul, you'll have to collect its pieces. Of course, this is easier said than done. You'll find these scattered throughout the world, oftentimes in seemingly impossible places to reach. Being trapped in shadow form means you can only interact with shadows, projected by objects in the foreground.<br />
<br />
Thankfully you have a few tricks up your sleeve. You have the ability to move light, altering the shadows. By manipulating an on-screen slider vertically (or horizontally), you'll be able to change the shadows, and open new paths. The solutions appear a bit too obvious: simply demanding experimentation with the sliders. According to a Hudson rep, these sliders only appear when shadow manipulation is necessary, making it very clear when you must use your powers.<br />

<br />
We presume it'll sell for the standard "PSOne Classic" price of $6, which means it's cheap enough to be worth a purchase if you want a non-standard kart racer -- or if you want to be a pedant and use it to correct people who tell you that "all <em>Bomberman</em> games are the same."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/07/esrb-bomberman-fantasy-race-joining-psone-classics/">ESRB: Bomberman Fantasy Race joining PSOne Classics</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 07 Jun 2010 18:30:00 EST. In a massive update, Sony is adding 1/7 of the games from another NEC console, the <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/supergrafx">SuperGrafx</a>. Okay, so it's just one game. <br />
<br />
Next week, Hudson's <em>After Burner</em>-style shooter <em>Battle Ace </em>will be available on the PlayStation Store next week, along with <em>Victory Run</em>, a racing game for the original PC Engine. Strangely enough, the Wii Virtual Console is also host to a single SuperGrafx title in Japan, but it's a different one: Capcom's <a href="http://nintendo.joystiq.com/2009/01/30/februarys-vc-releases-in-japan-tactics-ogre-and-more/"><em>Ghouls &amp; Ghosts</em></a>. Of course, both the Virtual Console and the PlayStation Store are devoid of SuperGrafx games outside of Japan.<br type="_moz" /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/15/supergrafx-game-to-be-added-to-japanese-psn/">SuperGrafx game to be added to Japanese PSN</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 15 Apr 2010 18:15:00 EST. <em>Oops! Prank Party</em> may sound like a belated <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/april-fools-2010/">April Fools' joke</a> but, tragically, it most certainly is not. Because the Wii needs another minigame collection, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Hudson/">Hudson</a> answers the call this June with <em>Oops!</em>. This cornucopia of cheap to produce content consists of 100 "brain-teasing, puzzle-solving, reflex-testing" challenges.<br />
<br />
Failure in the game results in your individually designed avatar putting on "embarrassing costumes" or submitting to "pranks." The "light-hearted and hilarious" costumes include a monkey suit and cardboard pants. How charming! We'd actually mock this game, but considering how phenomenal <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/just-dance"><em>Just Dance</em></a> sales are, the joke's on us.<br />

Good news: What started out reminding me of the original, side-scrolling <em>Prince of Persia</em> quickly had me grinning, as its lighting went from "a nice effect" to a creating some clever gameplay mechanics.<br />
<br />
The premise of the game is simple: You play as the shadow of a boy that's been severed from his body. Beginning at the ground floor of a massive tower, you guide his shadow form back to the top, where the two will (hopefully) be reunited. The core gameplay is simple. The shadow boy has a sword and can run, jump, climb obstacles and duel with enemies -- again, shades of classic <em>Prince of Persia</em>. The twist often literally came in the form of moving physical foreground elements in the level I played in order to reach new areas, and even defeat otherwise invulnerable enemies.<br />

Speaking with Joystiq at yesterday's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/konami-gamers-night-2010">Konami Gamers Night</a> event, Hudson producer Shinichi Kasahara told us that he hopes his upcoming Wii title <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/lost-in-shadow"><em>Lost in Shadow</em></a> will someday see release on both PS3 and Xbox 360. When asked whether or not his team has any interest in developing for the HD consoles and their motion controllers, Kasahara said, "In addition to hopefully transferring [<em>Lost in Shadow</em>] to those consoles, we are also actually already brainstorming a couple of different ideas that we're probably going to develop for Natal and Move."<br />
<br />
Look for our hands-on with the Wii version of <em>Lost in Shadow</em> and our full interview with Kasahara-san coming soon.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/09/hudson-lost-in-shadow-may-come-to-ps3-and-xbox-360/">Hudson's Lost in Shadow may come to PS3, 360; dev team 'brainstorming' Move, Natal titles</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 09 Apr 2010 14:00:00 EST. <div style="text-align: right;"><small>[<em>Daigasso! Band Brothers</em> &amp; <em>Daigasso! Band Brothers DX</em>]</small></div>
Nintendo of Europe released its summer lineup today, featuring dates we mostly know -- <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/super-mario-galaxy-2">Super Mario Galaxy 2</a></em> on June 11 -- or aren't terribly concerned with -- <em>Repetto Presents Ballerina</em> in May. <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/metroid-other-m">Metroid: Other M</a></em> is still undated, having been slated for Q3, and therefore out of the bounds of the new listing. <br />
<br />
However, there are a few welcome surprises, most notably: <em>Jam with the Band</em>. Originally released way back in 2004 as <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daigasso!_Band_Brothers"><em>Daigasso! Band Bros.</em></a>, this rhythm game disappeared from Nintendo's launch lineup elsewhere, never making it to the West until now. We don't know why Nintendo decided to revive it <em>now --</em> or if it's the first game or the sequel (both covers pictured above) -- but it's scheduled for release in Europe on May 21! <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/samurai-warriors-3"><em>Samurai Warriors 3</em></a> for Wii has been dated for May 28, as well.<br />
<br />
Nintendo has also dated Capcom's <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/mega-man-zero-collection">Mega Man Zero Collection</a></em> for June. The release date for this DS compilation of GBA <em>Mega Man</em> games had been up in the air following the announcement of its <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/26/mega-man-zero-collection-delayed-in-japan/">delay</a> in Japan. Also, a previously unannounced DS title from Hudson, <em>Shooting Watch</em>, is set for release in May. We assume this is based on Hudson's <a href="http://www.ncsx.com/2008/121508/shooting_watch.htm">Shooting Watch</a> toy, which measures the number of button presses you can achieve in 10 seconds.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/08/jam-with-the-band-headed-to-europe-after-5-year-wait/">'Jam with the Band' headed to Europe after 5-year wait; other Nintendo releases dated</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 08 Apr 2010 14:59:00 EST. This will mark the first time that the game has been available on WiiWare outside of Japan, where <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/16/japanese-nintendo-downloads-super-famicom-wars-diner-dash/">it was released last month</a>. For those unfamiliar with the title, <em>Diner Dash</em> tasks players with running a restaurant. This entails seating customers, taking orders, placing orders, serving food and cleaning tables. You have to manage all of these tasks in real time, so it gets pretty hectic pretty fast. The WiiWare version features new controls and a new multiplayer mode as well.<br />

The press release doesn't mention a pricing, though we'd imagine it will share the Japanese price of $10.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/05/diner-dash-dashing-to-wiiware-march-29/">Diner Dash dashing to WiiWare March 29</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 05 Mar 2010 20:30:00 EST. It's tough for us to provide you with a comprehensive look at a genre with so much content -- plus all of the trial-and-error. It wouldn't make for a very comprehensive and enlightening video, however we soldier on. Check out the latest episode of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/vc-in-brief">VC in Brief</a> above!<br />

Hudson's banking that you'll want to sample its brand of "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/10/hudson-officially-reveals-wii-survival-horror-calling/">traditional survival-horror</a>" in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/calling/"><em>Calling</em></a>. Make all of the jokes you want about the game's <em>phoney</em> nature; what we've seen so far <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/11/new-hudson-survival-horror-trailers-are-calling/">is downright creepy</a>. And in the interest of getting your week off on a frightful foot, we've rummaged around in Hudson's creepy old mansion to secure some more screens, which you can find in the gallery below.<br />

<div style="text-align: right;"><small>[<a href="http://castlevaniadungeon.net/Games/rondo.html">Castlevania Dungeon</a>]</small></div>
After years of waiting, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/25/esrb-rates-castlevania-rondo-of-blood-for-wii/"><em>Castlevania: Rondo of Blood</em></a> has been officially confirmed for a Virtual Console release in North America. A Hudson representative told <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/2010/01/27/castlevania-rondo-of-blood-coming-soon-but-it-wont-be-in-english/">Siliconera</a> that the game was indeed bound for release on the Wii Shop, over a year after it was released as a download in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/22/vc-tuesday-dracula-x-rondo-of-blood/">Japan</a>.<br />
<br />
Hudson (and/or Konami) must have spent all that time implementing the English translation used in the PSP release, right? Nope! The Hudson rep said that "it will not be released in English, however." You'll just have to do your <em>very best</em> to understand how to whip a Medusa head in Japanese.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/28/castlevania-rondo-of-blood-on-virtual-console-soon/">Castlevania: Rondo of Blood on Virtual Console 'soon'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 28 Jan 2010 14:45:00 EST. Last time we posted about the game, we described the concept of living shadows as "unbelievably creepy." And now we have footage of a shadow being separated from a chained-up body by a sword! In other words, our previous assessment holds.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.famitsu.com/game/coming/1231493_1407.html"><em>Famitsu</em></a> has also posted some new screenshots of <em>Lost in Shadow</em>, highlighting two new enemies, which are <em>also</em> creepy. Most exciting of all: Hudson has posted a <a href="http://www.hudson.co.jp/kagenotou/">demo</a>!<br />

</small></div>
<div style="text-align: left;"><small> </small>According to a recent "T for Teen" classification by the <a href="http://www.esrb.org/ratings/synopsis.jsp?Certificate=28528">ESRB</a>, <em>Castlevania: Rondo of Blood</em> (better known as <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dracula-x/">Dracula X: Rondo of Blood</a></em>) appears to be heading to the Wii. An <a href="http://nintendo.joystiq.com/2009/12/22/dracula-x-rated-by-oflc/">OFLC rating</a> of the game back in December already hinted at the possibility of the game arriving on the Wii's Virtual Console (the Japanese version was released in April 2008), but the ESRB rating's description seems to clinch it, citing the "early-90s rendering" of "reddish blood-like bursts." <br />
<br />
Previously, unless you were a resident of Japan who owned a PC Engine CD in the early '90s (or, more likely, a PSP owner anywhere in the world within the past two years ago), there wasn't an easy way for you to get your hands on "Akumajō Dracula X Chi no Rondo" (<em>Rondo of Blood's</em> Japanese title). But now, it seems that Wii owners outside of Japan will get the chance to check out the game.</div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/25/esrb-rates-castlevania-rondo-of-blood-for-wii/">ESRB rates Castlevania: Rondo of Blood for Wii</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 25 Jan 2010 16:00:00 EST. We don't think "lazy port" is a strong enough term for what is essentially a GBA game running in emulation. But, because it's <em>Phoenix Wright</em> running in emulation, and its story is unaltered by the change in presentation, we personally don't care. It's not like anyone expected anything to be changed or added.<br />
<br />
In other "things that used to be retail DS games" news, on DSiWare, Nintendo offers two more <em>Electroplankton</em> segments this week. Hudson also presents the <em>hardest sudoku puzzles yet</em>.<br />

But for a few -- those who love Hudson classics and <em>also</em> idolize <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/26/takahashi-meijin-hudson-planning-adventure-island-sequel/">Takahashi Meijin</a>, the Hudson PR executive who became famous for his ability to push a button 16 times a second, and who served as the model for <em>Adventure Island'</em>s protagonist, <em>Takahashi Meijin Legend: Soul of the 16 Shot</em> -- is <em>instantly</em> going to become one of the year's most anticipated music releases. <em>And</em> a bizarre retrogaming oddity.<br />
<br />
<em>Soul of the 16 Shot</em> features the Meijin singing, auto-tuned, over new arrangements of the music from classic <em>Star Soldier, Challenger </em>and <em>Milon's Secret Castle</em>. It'll be available on CD and in the Japanese iTunes store January 27. After hearing the new interpretation of the <em>Adventure Island</em> music, we're going to hope <em>really hard</em> that it shows up in the US iTunes store as well. Listen to some preview tracks after the break!<br />

Sure, there's some <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/No-More-Heroes-2-Desperate-Struggle">No More Heroes 2</a> </em>footage to check out -- odds are <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/04/no-more-heroes-2-trailer-serves-up-mouthful-of-details/">you've already seen it</a> on our site -- but the only genuinely new and interesting video is the story trailer above for Hudson's survival-horror game, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/calling"><em>Calling</em></a>. Check it out then be sure to head past the break for the full list of this week's content.<br />

Nintendo's been on quite the roll recently, providing plenty of content in its weekly offerings -- and today is no different. Hudson's DS (and Wii) port of the PC puzzle game, out next spring, turns the <em>rooms</em> of a building into a slide puzzle. By configuring the rooms in the correct manner, the player can navigate between them with doors and ladders.<br />
<br />
Why would anyone even <em>dare</em> to enter a building with sliding rooms that threaten to trap you forever? For a birthday party, of course!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/16/rooms-the-main-building-a-trailer/">Rooms: The Main Building: A Trailer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 16 Dec 2009 02:00:00 EST.
