Eager to fill their lungs with the clean air of independent living, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/rockstar-games">Rockstar Games</a> co-founders Jamie King and Gary Foreman have headed for the hills. Along the way the pair picked up Nicholas Perret from Image Metrics, known for its amazing yet slightly creepy <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bLiX5d3rC6o">Emily video</a>, and entertainment exec Paul Coyne. Next stop: <a href="http://www.4mmgames.com/">4mm Games</a>, a new game studio that, according to CEO Perret, aims to "deliver groundbreaking content with global appeal to a consumer who lives online."<br /><br />4mm isn't talking specifics, though the company has netted "significant" backing from game-focused investment firm, CEA Autumn Games. According to 4mm, the companies have agreed to a multi-year partnership, which includes multiple titles and platforms. Beyond this, 4mm is keeping quiet on what it plans to spend its new-found cash on, but we'll keep our eyes on the horizon as things develop.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/21/former-rockstar-games-founders-form-4mm-games/">Former Rockstar Games founders form 4mm Games</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 21 May 2009 09:00:00 EST. Early risers were treated to an accident on Rockstar's virtual 405. According to multiple sources, someone left <em>Midnight Club: LA</em>'s upcoming <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/12/midnight-club-la-races-into-south-central-in-early-09/">South Central DLC</a> in neutral earlier today and it inadvertently rolled out to the Xbox Live Marketplace a bit ahead of schedule. The content has since been removed, though <a href="http://gamesblog.ugo.com/index.php/gamesblog/more/rockstar_fakeout_midnight_club_dlc_arrives_is_pulled/">UGO Gamesblog</a> reports via <a href="http://www.neogaf.com/">NeoGAF</a> that those who downloaded the content found nothing changed, save for a partial listing of cars queued up for the DLC's eventual release. Among those sweet rides are the '09 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT, '08 Mitsubishi Lancer EVO X and '64 Chevy Impala.<br /><br />Microsoft Europe's Xbox community manager Graeme Boyd <a href="http://www.videogamer.com/news/13-01-2009-10365.html">acknowledged the snafu</a>, writing in a statement that those who managed to snag the content should delete it as it was still being tested and "may not work properly," possibly causing problems with game saves. For now it seems eager racers will just have to wait for the content's official release sometime in early 2009 ... just <em>sometime </em>later than right now.<br /><br /><a href="http://gamesblog.ugo.com/index.php/gamesblog/more/rockstar_fakeout_midnight_club_dlc_arrives_is_pulled/">Source</a> - Rockstar Fakeout: <em>Midnight Club</em> DLC Arrives, Is Pulled<br /><a href="http://www.videogamer.com/news/13-01-2009-10365.html">Source</a> - <em>Midnight Club LA </em>DLC warning<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/13/midnight-club-la-dlc-released-early-by-accident/">Midnight Club: LA DLC released early by accident</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 13 Jan 2009 13:54:00 EST. Rockstar construction crews are hard at work laying down pavement for those already bored with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/midnight-club-la"><em>Midnight Club</em>'s LA streets</a>. The developer confirmed that it will release a "South Central Upgrade Map" for free next year, adding numerous LA landmarks and a new area equivalent to about a third of what's already on the disc. <br /><br />Those looking to burn a little of their leftover holiday cash can also pick up the "South Central Content Pack," which will trick out the racing game with new character competitions, races, music and that all-important element of the LA landscape: The SUV. No release date for either download has been announced, though Rockstar notes that Xbox 360 and PS3 racers can look forward to rolling down the 105 Freeway sometime in early 2009.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/12/midnight-club-la-races-into-south-central-in-early-09/">Midnight Club: LA races into South Central in early '09</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 12 Dec 2008 18:00:00 EST. We apologize for our unquenchable thirst for outrageously overpowered kitchen appliances.<br /><br />Considering that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/24/guitar-hero-iii-featured-on-will-it-blend/">Blendtec's doomsday device has already proved its ability</a> to obliterate bricks, fake diamonds, small buildings and many large breeds of dogs, it should come as no surprise that (spoiler alert) <a href="http://www.techeblog.com/index.php/tech-gadget/will-it-blend-gta-4">it can chew through a copy of <em>Grand Theft Auto IV</em> <em>with ease</em></a>. What is surprising is host Tom Dickson's incredibly short fuse -- apparently, when something provides him with the smallest amount of displeasure, it finds itself on the business end of the appliance's screaming blades. For the sake of Tom's children (who likely have perfect grades and manners out of fear of a liquefying punishment), we remind the charismatic host that with great blending power comes great blending responsibility.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/25/grand-theft-auto-iv-featured-on-will-it-blend/">Grand Theft Auto IV featured on Will It Blend</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 25 May 2008 15:30:00 EST. Still, if you find yourself lost whilst playing Grand Theft Auto IV, we guess <a href="http://grandtheftauto.ign.com/maps/1/Liberty-City-Map">this Liberty City map application (mapplication?)</a> using the <a href="http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&amp;tab=wl">Google Maps interface</a> would come in handy.<br /> <br />A number of user contributions have already been made to the map, showing the location of hidden items, easter eggs, pigeon locations, stunt jumps, and yes, even hookers, whom we assume were fitted with GPS locaters by <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hugh_Grant">trained prostitute handlers</a> before being released back into the wild. It makes for a useful cartographical companion for those with a laptop near <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/29/gta-iv-comparison-video-between-xbox-360-ps3/">their console of choice</a> -- if you don't mind ruining the fun of exploring the nooks and crannies of Rockstar's intricately crafted metropolis for yourself, that is.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/03/explore-liberty-city-with-google-map-application/">Explore Liberty City with Google Map application</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 03 May 2008 19:00:00 EST. We chuckled at <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/30/daily-show-visits-liberty-city/">the Daily Show's coverage</a> of the game's midnight release, but thoroughly LOLed at <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0kgo0VXGixk">Conan O'Brien's previews</a> (embedded after the jump) of <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JXGSwx29EjI">the toned-down version of </a><em><a href="javascript:void(0);/*1209834262336*/">Grand Theft Auto IV</a> </em>(if only Stephen Bishop's classic "It Might Be You" <em>really were</em> available on Liberty City's airwaves).<br /><br />However, we didn't truly board the ROFLcopter until we saw <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1sXmgM8_FGw">the above skit from The Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson</a> (the former unitesticled boss on "The Drew Carey Show"). Perhaps it was the visit from "Saturday Night Live" veteran Tim Meadows that made it our fave, or perhaps it was their subtle send-up of the criticism the game has endured due to it's adult content. On that note, if there's anything funnier than <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fRfpzjlZCVY">the <em>actual </em>media coverage of Rockstar's mature blockbuster</a>, we've yet to see it.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/03/grand-theft-auto-iv-takes-late-night-comedy-world-by-storm/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Grand Theft Auto IV takes late night comedy world by storm</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/03/grand-theft-auto-iv-takes-late-night-comedy-world-by-storm/">Grand Theft Auto IV takes late night comedy world by storm</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 03 May 2008 15:00:00 EST. Is it too early to say that we're beginning to see a pattern develop here? We know that <a href="http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/xbox360/grandtheftauto4?q=grand%20theft%20auto%20IV">a mere handful of reviews</a> for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/Grand-Theft-Auto-IV/">Rockstar's latest opus</a> have been published, but should <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/14/first-grand-theft-auto-iv-review-perfect-10/">the current trend</a> continue, <em>Grand Theft Auto IV</em> could be the subject of more perfect scores than <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nadia_Com%C4%83neci">1976 Olympic gymnast Nadia Comaneci</a>. Yes, IGN recently dropped <a href="http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/869/869381p1.html">the suspiciously non-embargoed first online review for the title</a>, giving it a 10 out of 10 (on <a href="http://ps3.ign.com/articles/869/869541p1.html">both</a> <a href="http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/869/869381p1.html">platforms</a>) and evoking the wrath of the Nintendo Defense Force, calling <em>GTA IV</em> "the best game since <em>Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time</em>."<br /><br />The seven-page, five-thousand word review (and accompanying video review, after the jump) praises the game's art style, the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/04/watch-gta-ivs-liberty-city-tourism-ad/">immersive backdrop of Liberty City</a>, the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/27/grand-theft-auto-iv-good-lord-what-are-you-doing/">"Oscar quality" story</a> and the "refined" gameplay. The enamored reviewer even commends some of the quirky extra features included by Rockstar, such as Niko's multipuropse cellphone, or the in-game use of alcohol: "You don't have to drive drunk," the reviewer exclaims, "but it's fun to give it a try." Great, now we can look forward to public backlash towards <a href="http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/869/869381p3.html">the game's DUI-endorsing write-ups</a>, as well.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/26/ign-first-web-gta-iv-review-another-perfect-10/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>IGN: First web GTA IV review, another perfect 10</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/26/ign-first-web-gta-iv-review-another-perfect-10/">IGN: First web GTA IV review, another perfect 10</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 26 Apr 2008 15:30:00 EST. The latest, Microsoft-endorsed, <em>Grand Theft Auto IV</em> special edition issue of <a href="http://www.computerandvideogames.com/">Computer and Video Games</a> magazine suggests that the 360 DLC is to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/14/first-grand-theft-auto-iv-review-perfect-10/">the perfect scoring <em>GTA IV</em></a> as "Vice City or San Andreas were [to] GTA III," and later, in simpler terms, "<a href="http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3167463">Rockstar is clearly hinting at new downloadable cities" for the title</a>.<br /><br />While this infinitely awesome feature might be technically and fiscally possible, we must keep a firm grasp on our cynically-tinted monocles until official confirmation arises. Still, it's tough not to wonder what cities Rockstar could build knock-off replicas of to add to their latest title -- perhaps <a href="http://www.atlanticcitynj.com/">an Atlantic City clone</a>? A geographically-appropriate rendering of New Jersey? A mock-up of the bustling metropolis of Mud Lick, KY? The possibilities are endless!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/19/rumor-gta-iv-dlc-may-include-entirely-new-cities/">Rumor: GTA IV DLC may include entirely new cities</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 19 Apr 2008 21:00:00 EST. <a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=127677">EuroGamer</a> reports that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/20/bully-patch-now-on-live-but-does-it-fix-anything/">a patch</a> released five days ago, which intended to fix the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/06/rockstar-working-around-the-clock-to-quell-360s-bully-issues/">issues in the Xbox 360 version</a> of <em>Bully: Scholarship Edition</em>, may have caused more problems than it resolved. Reported problems include freezes, along with audio and graphic glitches. Rockstar explained that the issue is with older consoles, but EuroGamer states its (relatively new?) office Elite locks up.<br /><br />We're still waiting to hear from Rockstar about what's really going on, but the company seems to have locked itself in the teacher's lounge and refuses to come out. So, what's the word on the virtual streets? Are people still having problems with their copy of <em>Bully</em> on the Xbox 360?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/26/bullys-xbox-360-patch-may-need-another-patch/">Bully's Xbox 360 patch may need another patch</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 26 Mar 2008 05:00:00 EST. A patch for <em>Bully: Scholarship Edition</em> <a href="http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2008/03/20/bully-xbox-360-patch-finally-released/">has been released</a> on Xbox Live in lieu of the "broad worldwide announcement" <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/19/news-on-bully-xbox-360-patch-coming-tomorrow/">expected today</a>. But what does it fix? We don't know for sure, and various readers have reported the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/06/rockstar-working-around-the-clock-to-quell-360s-bully-issues/">technical problems</a> are either not fixed at all or in some cases worse. We've contacted Rockstar for more information. If you've downloaded the patch yourself, feel free to give your impressions below.<br /><br />[Thanks, <a href="http://gamexp.wordpress.com/2008/03/19/some-major-beefs-with-bully-scholarship-edition/">Mark</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/20/bully-patch-now-on-live-but-does-it-fix-anything/">Bully patch now on Live, but does it fix anything?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 20 Mar 2008 18:27:00 EST. News that he expects the fumes of controversy to waft especially thick and heavy over this particular chapter in the <em>GTA</em> franchise.<br /><br />Why, you might ask? What could be worse than territorial gang violence, drug trafficking, or <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/29/take-two-details-hot-coffee-settlement-no-receipt-necessary/">poorly rendered depictions of consensual sex between two adults</a>? When asked about the Xbox 360 <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/16/gta-iv-episodic-content-exclusive-to-the-360/">exclusive</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/18/did-microsoft-pay-50-million-for-gta-iv-content/">episodes</a> and whether or not the PS3 version would receive any similar perks, Simon replied, "not that I can think of." Simon elaborates that the games are identical, and that Rockstar does its best to make games that can be enjoyed on any console. "We're not like a pawn between these [hardware] companies," said Simon. That said, Simon admitted, "But I guess if you want the complete experience with the episodes, then yeah, you should buy the 360, I suppose."<br /><br />We must mention -- along with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/26/rockstar-only-gta-iv-on-xbox-has-complete-experience/">Joystiq</a> -- that the term "exclusive" has become more and more loosely defined over the years. We have to wonder if the Playstation 3 will ever pick up the episodes as well. Whether or not this comes to pass, it will be interesting to see if the initial promise of exclusive downloadable content will make <em>GTA</em> fans pick one version over the other.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/26/rockstar-only-gta-iv-on-xbox-has-complete-experience/">Joystiq</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/26/only-gtaiv-on-360-is-complete-experience-says-rockstar/">Only GTAIV on 360 is complete experience, says Rockstar</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 26 Jul 2007 15:00:00 EST. <br />
As light on information as it gets, Rockstar's release is but a simple announcement and assurance that this will take -- say it along with us now -- full advantage of the Wii remote and its unique features. Okay, Rockstar founder Sam Houser really said, "a new audience can now experience a game that is beautifully designed and impossible to put down," but we know what he meant.<br />
<br />
With a release planned for this Fall, we can only hope that we have enough time to make our way over to Japan and learn those <a href="http://youtube.com/watch?v=_PYq41aSvGY">secret paddle positions</a> we've heard so much about.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/18/rockstar-table-tennis-backhands-over-to-wii/">Rockstar Table Tennis backhands over to Wii</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 18 Jul 2007 08:35:00 EST. You can either watch the tiny, poorly streamed version at <a href="http://grandtheftauto.yahoo.com/">Yahoo! Games</a>, or you can watch the higher resolution trailer at <a href="http://www.rockstargames.com/IV/trailer_splash.html">Rockstar's website</a>. Either way, expect to do a little waiting. As we suspected, the trailer gives a marginally closer look at some of the colorful characters we'll be seeing in Liberty City. We also get a deeper look at Niko, the main character. Sprinkled throughout are bits of action, like kicking in doors, hanging from helicopters, hanging on to the back of a speeding truck, and evading the newer, smarter police. All in all, the trailer is short, but definitely sweet. Alright, talk amongst yourselves.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/28/gtaiv-trailer-is-live-thoughts/">GTAIV trailer is live. It will be available at the official <em>GTAIV</em> <a href="http://www.rockstargames.com/IV/trailer_splash.html">website</a> as well as <a href="http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/g/grandtheftautoiv/">Xbox.com</a>, and hopefully it will hit <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/XboxLiveMarketplace/">Xbox Live Marketplace</a> on time too. Now that we've been introduced to the world of <em>GTAIV</em>, we're hoping to see at least a little gameplay. We wouldn't be surprised, however, if the second trailer is used mainly to introduce us to the other characters aside from Niko (the game's protagonist). As you sit there watching the minutes go by (this time without an oh-so-trendy <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/23/grand-theft-auto-ivs-30-minute-infomercial/">countdown clock</a>), you might as well check out our <em>GTAIV</em> gallery, which we've updated with an entire <em>two</em> new images. Yeah, we know. We spoil you.<br /><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/28/gtaiv-trailer-goes-live-at-noon-edt/">GTAIV trailer goes live at noon EDT</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 28 Jun 2007 10:30:00 EST. In addition, Rockstar will be releasing <em>Grand Theft Auto IV</em> gamer pictures and a theme. The press release (featured at <a href="http://www.gamertagradio.com/vbportal/forums/showthread.php?t=4534">Gamertag Radio</a>) makes no mention of a cost associated with the gamer pictures and theme. We're hoping Rockstar has the sense to make them free.<br /><br />If you simply can't figure out what to do with yourself until tomorrow, why not take a gander at our <em>Grand Theft Auto IV</em> galleries? We've got tons of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/25/grand-theft-auto-iv-images-galore/">screenshots</a>, and some images of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/27/gtaiv-special-edition-images-revealed/">special edition</a>. Maybe that will take the edge off of the long wait.<br /><br /><br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/27/2nd-gtaiv-trailer-brings-new-theme-gamer-pics/">2nd GTAIV trailer brings new theme, gamer pics</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 27 Jun 2007 14:30:00 EST. With the special edition -- for the not-too-low price of 90 bones -- you get the game, an art book, a soundtrack CD, a duffel bag, and the particularly cool locking safety deposit box. Yes, you'll have all the makings of your own (pretend) robbery. We have to admit, as special editions go, <em>Grand Theft Auto IV</em> looks to be right up there with the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/halo-3-packaging-all-editions/">cat helmet</a>. Readers will recall that Take Two's recent conference call made reference to two separate $25 million payments for "episodic content." Prior to this, gamesindustry.biz <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/16/gta-iv-episodic-content-exclusive-to-the-360/">confirmed</a> that the episodic content for <em>GTAIV</em> would be exclusive to Xbox 360. Naturally, this stumped PS3 owners who were <a href="http://playstation2.joystiq.com/2006/10/17/inconceivable-ps3-to-get-its-own-exclusive-gta-iv-episodes/">promised</a> their own exclusive content as well. The obvious conclusion, then, is that MS coughed up some money to keep the content exclusive.<br /><br />Whatever the reality is, Take Two isn't talking. Gamesindustry.biz <a href="http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=25903">contacted</a> the company for comment on the $50 million quote and were greeted with no official responses whatsoever. Did MS buy exclusivity? The world may never know (but probably yes).<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/19/take-two-not-explaining-gta-50-million-exclusive/">Joystiq</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/19/take-two-silent-on-50-million-gtaiv-content/">Take Two silent on $50 million GTAIV content</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 19 Jun 2007 14:30:00 EST. At the time it released, the interenet stopped for a moment. And now it looks like we're going to have to go through all the madness once again. Over on the official<em> GTA IV</em> website, the main <a href="http://www.rockstargames.com/IV/trailer_splash.html">splash page</a> is announcing a second trailer called "Looking For That Special Someone" that will be available June 28th. And even though there is no suspenseful countdown clock, we're still excited to see more <em>GTA IV</em> goodness. We advise you to prepare for the worst, because June 28th could be the day the internet calls it quits.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/13673/New-Grand-Theft-Auto-IV-Trailer-Dated/">TeamXbox</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/12/second-gta-iv-trailer-coming-soonish/">Second GTA IV trailer coming soonish</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 12 Jun 2007 09:00:00 EST. The shots all show off a very impressive level of detail, from foliage in the trees to reflective surfaces on automobiles. We also get some close looks at <em>GTAIV</em>'s protagonist, Niko Bellic (seen above behind the wheel of a likely stolen ride). The latest to hop on the bandwagon is the next in the franchise that power-hungry politicos love to hate, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gtaiv"><em>Grand Theft Auto IV</em></a>. We have to admit though, as <a href="http://ir.take2games.com/ReleaseDetail.cfm?ReleaseID=244729">special editions</a> go, this one's a doozy. For the bargain basement price of $90, you get a metal safety deposit box, an art book, a soundtrack CD, a keychain for holding the keys to the deposit box, and a Rockstar duffel bag. Oh, and you get a copy of <em>Grand Theft Auto IV</em> as well. We dig that the special edition basically gives you the end result of a high profile theft: a loaded safety deposit box in a duffel bag.<br /><br />What say you, fanboys, does it top the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/21/up-close-and-personal-with-the-legendary-helmet/">cat helmet</a>?<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/21/grand-theft-auto-iv-special-edition-announced-at-90/">Joystiq</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/22/gtaiv-hops-on-the-special-edition-bandwagon/">GTAIV hops on the special edition bandwagon</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 22 May 2007 15:15:00 EST. State Senator Andrew Lanza (R) of Staten Island, has publicly <a href="http://blog.silive.com/advanceupdate/2007/05/vtech_rampage_internet_game_sp.html">come out</a> against a flash game called <em>V-Tech Rampage</em>, in which players reenact the recent massacre at Virginia Tech. Concerning the game Lanza stated, "There are certain things in life you don't make light of and should not be turning into a game ... It's not a game, it's a tremendous loss of life."<br /><br />Unfortunately, Lanza revealed his lack of understanding about the game when he called on "retailers, manufacturers and Web site hosts" to distance themselves from the game. <em>V-Tech Rampage</em> is an independent game created by an Australian man named Ryan Lambourn. Clearly, Lanza doesn't understand the distinction between industry product and that which is independently produced.<br /><br />Still, Lanza finds a way to lump <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/GTAIV/">GTAIV</a></em> into his statements, saying, "You've got <em>Grand Theft Auto</em> where you murder police officers ... To me, I can't imagine people marketing and distributing it, and putting it in the hands of kids, but it's happening." If we're going to continue the fight against violent games, can we at least get a new scapegoat? <em>GTA </em>is getting old.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/17/ignored-island-politician-lumps-v-tech-rampage-with-gta-iv/">Joystiq</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/17/new-york-pol-compares-v-tech-rampage-to-gtaiv/">New York pol compares V-Tech Rampage to GTAIV</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 17 May 2007 15:05:00 EST. The game is being developed by Rockstar San Diego, the group that originally developed the <em>Midnight Club</em> series. <em>Midnight Club: Los Angeles</em> promises to "push the boundaries and expectations of what a racing game can be." Exactly how Rockstar San Diego plans to do this isn't made clear. Still, <em>Los Angeles</em> will be the first <em>Midnight Club</em> title developed for new-gen systems, so expect a healthy dose of graphical polish. Also expect plenty of "street racing culture" and barely-dressed women. <em>Midnight Club: Los Angeles</em> should be available in early 2008.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/16/midnight-club-los-angeles-coming-to-ps3-360/">Joystiq</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/16/midnight-club-los-angeles-races-to-xbox-360/">Midnight Club Los Angeles races to Xbox 360</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 16 May 2007 13:45:00 EST. When asked directly about the issue, Houser agreed that the hard drive issue presented limitations. It should be noted, however, that Houser elaborated that both the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 have their share of challenges. As Houser put it, "both have their own particular pleasures and pains." What exactly these pleasures and pains are is anyone's guess.<br /><br />For what it's worth, the version of <em>Grand Theft Auto IV</em> being <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/11/loads-of-new-gtaiv-details-rounded-up/">shown to the press</a> is running on an Xbox 360. Many readers were understandably miffed, as flying is one of the more entertaining things to do in <em>Grand Theft Auto</em>. Fear not, fanboys, for we have discovered that flight has not been removed from the series. Game Informer's Andrew Reiner recently spilled the beans whilst speaking to <a href="http://www.gta4.net/news/3864/game-informers-gta-iv-qa--the-answers-are-in/">GTANet</a>. According to Reiner, the city is really too small for a plane to make sense, but other craft -- like helicopters -- will definitely make it into the game. That, obviously, is the big news, but Reiner revealed a few other details as well. The camera has been adjusted while driving, making the game feel more like <em>Midnight Club</em> according to Reiner. Also, Reiner was very impressed by the game's visuals (no pop up or loading screens), and notes that retail will look even better than what he saw. He also hints that characters from previous games may make an appearance.<br /><br />Hit the "read" link for the full interview.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/782/782954p1.html">IGN</a>. One of those details is causing a bit of a stir in Staten Island. It was revealed yesterday that only four of New York's five boroughs would be represented in <em>GTAIV</em>, with Staten Island being left out. It seems that Staten Island (or at least one of its newspapers) is miffed at its exclusion from the game. As John Annese writes in the <a href="http://www.silive.com/news/advance/index.ssf?/base/news/1176380163250630.xml&amp;coll=1">Staten Island Advance</a> "When did Staten Island get run off the road as a borough of New York City?" A gamer at a local gaming center stated, "If you're gonna base a game on the five boroughs and you leave out one of the boroughs, it's kind of unsettling" (he added that he would still probably buy the game though).<br /><br />Of course, not everyone is displeased with the news. Linda Baran, the president of the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce noted, "That's something I appreciate being left out of." A mother at the gaming center shared similar sentiments, noting that <em>GTA</em> is "not a great game" and that her son wasn't allowed to play it.<br /><br />Naturally, as game journalists, we're disappointed that so many people remain unaware that games have grown up over the years. Still, the response is expected at this point. Considering the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/22/venezuela-enlists-bono-to-stop-mercs-2/">flack</a> companies have been <a href="http://j.joystiq.com/2006/12/29/the-political-game-the-2006-political-mix/">getting</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/23/graw-2-being-pulled-from-mexican-retailers/">lately</a> for basing their games on real world locations, it's interesting to see things turned the other way around.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.gamestooge.com/2007/04/12/staten-island-outraged-over-gta4-snub/">Game Stooge</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/12/staten-island-slighted-by-gtaiv/">Staten Island slighted by GTAIV</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 12 Apr 2007 11:30:00 EST. The screens give a nice idea of the level of detail in the game, as touched upon by the recently released <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/29/the-grand-theft-auto-iv-trailer/">trailer</a>. The shot above in particular is a great example of how alive the game seems to be. In this shot, you can see reflections on the car, realistic shadows, and of course, lots of pedestrians. It's unfortunate that this shot shows off two identical NPCs (the women in white shirts and jeans), but the level of detail is still very impressive. There are also some nice shots of <em>GTAIV</em>'s locations, cars, and characters (including some character art). Hit the "read" link to check 'em out. This is such an occasion. Visiting Gamestop's <a href="http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=190422"><em>Manhunt 2</em> page</a> reveals story details on the mysterious <em>Manhunt 2</em>. What do PSP gamer's have to look forward to in this macabre title? Let's have the game description itself tell us.</p>
<p>"An experiment at a secret research facility has gone catastrophically wrong. Daniel Lamb and Leo Kasper are the only surviving subjects. The Pickman Project will stop at nothing to hunt them down and stop the truth from getting out.</p>
<p>Demented screams echo around the dank asylum that has caged you for the last six years. You open your eyes. A white-coated body slumps to the floor through your shaking hands. A bloody syringe slips from your arm. Waves of confusion and paranoia crash over you. You have no idea who you are or how you got here.</p>
<p>The door to your cell is open. One choice. One chance. They took your life. Time to take it back."</p>
<p>Pickman Project? I wonder if Miyamoto is behind this.</p>

With the advent of YouTube and viral videos, many video game fans are turning to user created movies. Some films, like the ones produced by <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/01/16/real-life-dead-rising-fantastic/">Mega64</a>, poke fun at video game conventions. Other films take existing game engines to create new stories, something that has become very popular with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/27/halo-monty-python-teh-awesome/"><em>Halo</em> and <em>Halo 2</em></a>. This <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vYPYjq8ZUzo">video</a>, however, brings something different to the table. The video is a recreation of the recently released trailer for <em>Grand Theft Auto IV</em>. The entire video is done in live action. That in itself is worth a look, but what makes it even more interesting is that the video is composed entirely of clips found on YouTube. Has society come so far that we now make YouTube videos from pieces of other YouTube videos? Simply astounding. Give it a watch, check out the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/29/the-grand-theft-auto-iv-trailer/">original</a>, and tell us what you think.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://gamepolitics.com/2007/04/06/gta-iv-trailer-recreated-with-real-video/">GamePolitics</a>. Hopefully you've properly prepared yourself for this. We're interested to see what kind of hype this will generate, with the logo having been showcased on FX for a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/23/grand-theft-auto-ivs-30-minute-infomercial/">half hour</a> accompanied by the ticking count down. Also interesting to note is that the xbox.com <a href="http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/g/grandtheftautoiv">Game Detail</a> page showcases box art which could be placeholder, as it's just the "IV" logo slapped on the template for 360 Titles. That's not to say that it couldn't be official, but it greatly differs from all the box art since <em>GTA III</em>, which may actually be <em>the point</em>. In any case, we'll be closely watching Rockstar's game page this afternoon, will you?<br /><br />[Thanks, Chris G]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/29/gtaiv-trailer-today/">GTAIV Trailer today</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 29 Mar 2007 10:00:00 EST. According to the CNN <a href="http://money.cnn.com/2007/03/19/commentary/column_gaming/index.htm?postversion=2007031911">article</a>, taking over an independent publisher that creates games for multiple platforms would actually create a revenue loss, as all Take-Two's development would be shifted to the 360 alone. Said Kim, "We could never launch an acquisition bid at a third party publisher."<br /><br />As for parties that <em>are</em> interested in the company, speculation ranges from Ubisoft to Elevation Partners (of which U2's Bono is a member) to Rupert Murdoch's News Corp. The article also suggests, as others have <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/02/19/take-two-downgraded-ea-seeks-2k-sports/">suggested</a> in the past, that Take-Two may be sold in pieces, offering up divisions like 2K Sports and Rockstar Games instead of Take-Two being sold as a whole.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://xbox360.dcemu.co.uk/microsoft-not-in-the-running-to-buy-take-two-56909.html">DCEmu</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/21/rumorang-microsoft-not-buying-take-two/">Rumorang: Microsoft not buying Take-Two</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 21 Mar 2007 17:00:00 EST. <div style="text-align: left;">After yesterday's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/02/06/rockstar-reveals-manhunt-2-for-the-ps2-psp-and-wii/">announcement</a> stabbed us in the face with a shard of glass, we've had some time to get used to the idea that Rockstar's <em>Manhunt</em> series is making its new-gen debut on Nintendo's heretofore soft and cuddly Wii console (alongside current-gen PSP and PS2 releases). The mind is a scary place to get stuck, as we did last night while trying (unsuccessfully we might add) to fall asleep. You see, we were preoccupied with all the horribly grotesque ways we imagined killing people (virtually, of course!) with the Wiimote. Hallucinations set in around 3am and we saw (did we?) rows of bespectacled Canadian programmers sitting in a crowded conference room, surrounded by empty pizza boxes and whiteboards covered with poorly spelled ideas. Ideas like: stabbing, bludgeoning, cleaving, slitting, choking (with optional nunchuk assist), and nunchuck ... ing. There were other ideas scribbled out: purple nurpling, hugging, arm wrestling ...<br /><br />If those <em>visions of horror</em> didn't whet your appetite, try Rockstar's <em>Manhunt 2</em> teaser, embedded after the break. Yeah, our favorite part is when the announcer says "This product is not yet rated" too. Something tells us this one's not <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/09/15/bully-gets-a-t-rating-no-seriously/">getting a T</a>.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/manhunt-2/">Manhunt 2</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/manhunt-2/#154280"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/02/manhunt-2-logo_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/manhunt-2/#154278"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/02/manhunt-2_ps2_mockbox_front__thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/manhunt-2/#154276"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/02/manhunt-2_psp_mockbox_front__thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/manhunt-2/#154263"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/02/manhunt-2_wii_mockbox_front_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div></div>

<p>It's only been a few hours since <em>Manhunt 2</em> was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/02/06/the-manhunt-2-is-on/">announced</a> for PSP, but there is already a trailer online. It seems like the game has a different main character and the story is quite unclear from the trailer, but then again, what Rockstar Games teaser trailer ever really gives away too much? Either way, I can't help but be psyched by what is shown.</p>
<p>Check out the official <a href="http://www.rockstargames.com/manhunt2/index.html">Manhunt 2</a> site to see the trailer now.</p>

The game is being developed by Rockstar Toronto, who recently did <em>The Warriors</em>. <br /><br />In the first game, you could kill your opponents in three differing ways, each progressively more sinister and violent, with any given weapon. Weapons ranged from plastic bags to shards of glass and, considering the Wii's control scheme, could we expect to have to mimic slicing someone's throat with a broken bottle or some such other object using the Wiimote? <br /><br /><strong>See also: </strong><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/09/26/will-wii-see-l-a-noire/">Will Wii see <em>L.A. Rockstar Games, who've always had a penchant for controversy, just added a gasoline-soaked two by four (with nails in it) to the "do video games teach kids to kill" bonfire, announcing that <em>Manhunt 2</em>, the sequel to last generation's ultraviolent snuff film-<em>slash</em>-video game, will be released on the PlayStation 2, the PSP and the Wii -- with nary an Xbox 360 or PS3 announcement in sight.<br /><br />The PS2 and PSP versions are being developed by Rockstar London, their newest studio, in conjunction with <em>Manhunt</em> series creator Rockstar North (<em>Grand Theft Auto</em>) while the Wii version is being handled independently by Rockstar Toronto (<em>The Warriors</em>). We're going to be hearing a lot more about this one.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/02/06/rockstar-reveals-manhunt-2-for-the-ps2-psp-and-wii/">Rockstar reveals Manhunt 2 for the PS2, PSP, and ... Donovan, who served as managing director, reportedly took a one-month leave, after which he decided not to return. Rockstar noted that Donovan would not be replaced; instead his responsibilities would be divided up among several other employees.<br /><br />"Sam [Houser] and Dan [Houser] is the leadership now, along with Gary Dale.
