Wait, Namco Bandai wasn't done announcing PSP games. Just <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/28/tekken-6-also-pummeling-psp/">an hour</a> after their <em>Tekken 6</em> announcement, the company also revealed a brand new <em>Soulcalibur</em> game for the handheld. <em>Soulcalibur: Broken Destiny</em> is a PSP-exclusive version of <em>Soulcalibur IV</em>. Gone are the <a href="http://xbox.joystiq.com/2008/10/18/vader-to-invade-soulcalibur-iv-for-a-price/">Star Wars bonus characters</a>, but in their stead will be at least one new character: Dampiere.<br /><br /><em>Broken Destiny</em> will feature all the dressings of a console fighter, with arcade, versus and survival modes. New to the PSP version will be a new single-player mode meant for beginners struggling to learn the intricacies of the battle system. It will function, essentially, as an enhanced tutorial mode.<br /><br />The PSP version will also feature new lighting effects that allow players to fight in stages at different times of day. Other gameplay components, such as the critical finish and armor destruction are also supposedly improved. Finally, <em>Broken Destiny</em> will offer Ad-Hoc wireless play, although according to <a href="http://www.gamespot.com/psp/action/soulcaliburbrokendestiny/news.html?page=1&amp;sid=6208732">Gamespot</a>, Infrastructure <em>might</em> be a possibility. Expect <em>Soulcalibur</em> to hit your no-longer-defunct PSP this summer.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/28/one-more-thing-soulcalibur-destiny-heading-to-psp/">One more thing: Soulcalibur Broken Destiny heading to PSP</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 28 Apr 2009 20:05:00 EST. Swords and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/17/soul-calibur-iv-keeps-laying-on-the-sexuality/3">boobs</a> helped propel Namco Bandai to $99.7 million in profit during the third quarter of its financial year. <a href="http://www.gamedaily.com/articles/news/namco-bandai-profits-drop-38-in-q3/?biz=1">GameDaily</a> reports that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/soul-calibur-iv"><em>Soul Calibur IV</em></a> has been the publisher's most successful title, selling 2.2m units this fiscal year, followed by <em>Dragon Ball Z Burst Limit'</em>s 730k. Overall, the PS2 is the publisher's most successful platform for its software, followed by the Wii. Also, the PSP has been slightly kinder to the publisher than the DS.<br /><br /><a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/namco-bandai">Namco Bandai</a>'s finances combine the company's video games, arcade machines and toy businesses. Despite a significant drop in revenue, it still plans to walk away with $143m in profit, when it closes the books for the year on March 31.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/12/namco-bandai-reaches-high-calibur-profits-of-99-7m/">Namco Bandai reaches high 'calibur' profits of $99.7m</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 12 Feb 2009 13:45:00 EST. It seems when <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/01/no-star-wars-dlc-for-soul-calibur-iv-says-games-director/">Namco Bandai told us</a> Darth Vader and Yoda would remain trapped in their respective console domains, it was only true ... from a certain point of view. The company has <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/29/rumor-yoda-could-come-to-ps3-soul-calibur-iv-through-dlc/">shockingly</a> confirmed that, due to "overwhelming fan response," those suspiciously blank character portraits in the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/soul-calibur-iv">Soulcalibur IV</a></em> will soon be filled in by a downloadable Darth Vader or Yoda. Good job, fans, we're sure Namco would never have figured out how to make money like this on its own.<br /><br />The proper Star Wars showdown will begin on October 23rd, provided you're willing to pay 400<img border="0" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" /> and $5 for a hyperventilating throat crusher and his little green friend, respectively. And just so we can work in another tedious reference, we'll add: We pray Namco doesn't alter the deal any further. Good one, us!<br /><br />[Via press release]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/17/soulcalibur-iv-getting-vader-and-yoda-dlc/">Soulcalibur IV getting Vader and Yoda DLC</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 17 Oct 2008 14:29:00 EST. SHOCK! Namco Bandai has just announced that Xbox 360's exclusive <em>Soulcalibur IV</em> character, Yoda, will be available as DLC on the PS3. We totally didn't <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/28/yoda-as-dlc-for-soulcalibur-iv-says-korean-playstation-site/">see this coming</a>.<br /><br />The DLC pack will be available next Thursday, October 23rd, and will cost $4.99. Xbox 360 owners will be able to access the PS3-exclusive character, Darth Vader, for 400 Microsoft Points.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/17/yoda-appearing-as-soulcalibur-iv-dlc-will-cost-5/">Yoda appearing as Soulcalibur IV DLC, will cost $5</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 17 Oct 2008 11:45:00 EST. That's more like it. Have you noticed that we haven't been moaning about European PSN releases for a little while? That's because SCEE has clearly stepped up their game. Big releases are nigh-on simultaneous and demos and add-ons are rarely late, either. Being a European is pretty good this week, with three demos, two song packs for <span style="font-style: italic;">Rock Band</span> and some decent videos and themes. Here's the full release list:<br /><br /><strong>Playable content</strong>
<ul>
    <li><em>Fracture</em> demo <br /></li>
    <li><em>SoulCalibur IV</em> demo</li>
    <li><em>NBA Live</em> 09 demo</li>
</ul>
<strong>Add-on content<br /></strong>
<ul>
    <li><em>Rock Band DLC</em> (listed after the break)</li>
    <li><em>Rock Band</em> Song Export Key (&pound;2.49/&euro;3.49)</li>
</ul>
Having said that, the <span style="font-style: italic;">Rock Band </span>DLC is lagging slightly, but we're going to give them the benefit of the doubt for a few weeks, until they get everything synced up properly. The most confusing thing about this update is the <span style="font-style: italic;">Rock Band </span>Son Export Key. Why would Europe need that now, if <span style="font-style: italic;">Rock Band 2</span> is nowhere in sight? Unless EA is going to surprise the region with a sooner-than-expected (ie, within the next 6 months) release? Who knows. What it does mean is that the song export patch (which includes <span style="font-style: italic;">GHIII</span> controller compatability) should be available soon. If you've been meaning to pick up <a href="http://ps3fanboy.com/tag/soul-calibur-iv"><em>Soulcalibur IV</em></a> -- which was released about a month ago -- but have yet to, then perhaps you've been waiting for that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/17/no-soulcalibur-iv-demo-before-official-release/">demo</a> that was promised. If you find yourself in with that crowd, perhaps getting some playtime with the newly released demo off the Japanese PS Store will tickle your fancy.<br /><br />The demo, which is completely in English, weighs-in at about 879MB. It'll allow players to fight a few rounds as either Cassandra (pictured getting whacked in the head) or Nightmare (not pictured). For those of you who want to check out the weapon-clashing blades of <em>SC IV</em>, log into your Japanese accounts and download it. For those of you who don't have a Japanese account and are not in a rush, there's a pretty big chance of seeing the demo on your local PS Store update tomorrow.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/27/soulcalibur-iv-demo-on-japan-ps-store/">Soulcalibur IV demo on Japan PS Store</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 27 Aug 2008 15:00:00 EST. <em>Street Fighter IV</em> is unlikely to have exclusive <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/18/vader-and-yoda-square-off-in-new-soul-calibur-iv-trailer/">console-specific characters</a> (like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Soul-Calibur-IV/"><em>Soul Calibur IV</em></a><em>)</em> when it releases next year, the game's producer tells <a href="http://www.videogamer.com/news/26-08-2008-9166.html">Videogamer</a>. Yoshinori Ono believes the idea of exclusive characters is unfair -- and that extends to "downloadable characters" as well.<br /><br />Yoshinori expresses that this is only his "policy," however, so we won't rule out the influence of the Capcom overlords. <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/street-fighter-iv">SF IV</a></em> is expected on consoles around the time the <em>Street Fighter</em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/19/street-fighter-iv-releasing-alongside-movie-in-2009-says-films/">movie releases in early 2009</a>.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/street-fighter-iv-1/">Street Fighter IV</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/street-fighter-iv-1/#1337097"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/guile_006-252009-37_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/street-fighter-iv-1/#1337096"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/dan_004-252009-26_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/street-fighter-iv-1/#1337095"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/cviper_001-252009-10_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/street-fighter-iv-1/#1337094"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/balrog_005-252009-49_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/street-fighter-iv-1/#1337093"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/seth_004-252009-8_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/26/street-fighter-iv-producer-console-specific-characters-not-very-fair/">Street Fighter IV producer: Console-specific characters 'not very fair'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 26 Aug 2008 15:30:00 EST. Namco Bandai's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/09/soul-calibur-ivs-secret-characters-darth-vader-and-yoda/">ridiculously cross-branded</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/soul-calibur-iv"><em>Soul Calibur IV</em></a> has cut a deep swath into retail shelves worldwide, shipping not one million units <em>but two </em>since its July 29 debut. <br /><br />Still, and not to make an example out of you, Namco, but really all of this chest puffery over units shipped is a bit overblown. It's like bragging about how many pencils you threw at the ceiling, rather than what's <em>really important</em>, namely how many stuck. Then again, we imagine it's difficult to look up and count while you're ducking under the desk from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/06/namco-bandai-profits-take-a-dip-in-q109/">falling profits</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/07/soul-calibur-iv-burns-two-million-souls-worldwide/">Soul Calibur IV burns two million souls worldwide</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 07 Aug 2008 15:00:00 EST. <div align="left">The creativity and ingenuity of gamers is <em>not</em> to be questioned. Case in point: the avalanche of (mostly) excellent classic characters re-created in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/soul-calibur-iv"><em>Soul Calibur IV</em></a>. We've already covered <strike>a few</strike> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/31/video-24-custom-soul-calibur-iv-characters/">24 of them</a>, but this <a href="http://hatimaki.blog110.fc2.com/blog-entry-554.html">latest batch</a> warrants a look as well. After all, it will at least give you a kicking-off point for making your own versions of Mario and Lugi, along with Cammy (<em>Street Fighter</em>), The Bride (<em>Kill Bill</em>), Gundam (er, <em>Gundam</em>), and more. While you're at it, we're sure our <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/joystiq-podcast">podcast</a> crew would <em>love </em>to see themselves in <em>SCIV</em> form. (hint-hint)<br /></div>

As you can see above, two very famous plumbers were painstakingly recreated for your viewing pleasure. This <a href="http://hatimaki.blog110.fc2.com/blog-entry-554.html">site</a> managed to collect even more craziness, with everyone ranging from Dante of <em>Devil May Cry</em>, The Bride of <em>Kill Bill</em>, <a href="http://dragonball.wikia.com/wiki/Nappa">Nappa</a> &amp; <a href="http://dragonball.wikia.com/wiki/Mercenary/General_Tao">General Tao</a><strong> </strong>of <em>Dragon Ball</em>, Golbez of <em>Final Fantasy IV</em>, Cammy of <em>Street Fighter</em> and last but certainly not least, Gundam. What's wrong with this picture? It directly contradicts what <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/soul-calibur-iv"><em>Soul Calibur IV</em></a> director Katsutoshi Sasaki said in a recent interview, that's what. Specifically, Sasaki responded "we don't have any plans for that" when asked by <a href="http://www.msxbox-world.com/xbox360/features/article/321/XCN-Soul-Calibur-IV-QA-with-Katsutoshi-Sasaki-Director.html">XCN</a> if we'd ever see both characters from a galaxy far, far away battling each other on the same console. <br /><br />You can't get much more official than the game's director, but his comments don't explain <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/25/rumor-vader-dlc-bringing-dark-side-to-xbox-360-soul-calibur-iv/">screenshots</a> (such as the one above) and <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f5mgc2O1TTc">video</a> that have appeared on the net clearly (and seemingly authentically) showing both Yoda and Vader in the same version of <em>SCIV</em>. We can't help but think Sasaki is practicing his Jedi mind tricks on us with this one.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2008/08/01/no-plans-for-yoda-on-ps3-soulcalibur-iv/">PS3 Fanboy</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/01/no-star-wars-dlc-for-soul-calibur-iv-says-games-director/">No Star Wars DLC for Soul Calibur IV, says game's director</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 01 Aug 2008 22:25:00 EST. What if an army of large-breasted female warriors, Darth Vader, and Yoda still weren't enough to satisfy your most illicit fanboy fantasies? Mathematically speaking, that puts you in a very small percentile but, never one to back down from a challenge, Namco has included a character creation tool in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Soul-Calibur-IV/" style="font-style: italic;">Soul Calibur IV</a> to fill in whatever gaps you may feel are inexcusable.<br /><br />For inspiration, we've got this video from CanoodleStrudel, showing off 24 different handmade fighters. There's a heavy focus on characters from Japanese games - <span style="font-style: italic;">Onimusha</span>, <span style="font-style: italic;">Ninja Gaiden</span>, <span style="font-style: italic;">Devil May Cry</span>, <span style="font-style: italic;">Metal Gear Solid</span>, and <span style="font-style: italic;">Final Fantasy VII</span> - but there's also some Western treats, like Arthas from the <span style="font-style: italic;">Warcraft</span> universe and the Prince (of Persia), light and dark versions. But it's not all video game characters, we've also got Leonidas from <span style="font-style: italic;">300</span> and Bruce Lee from ... real life.<br /><br />So are there technically 24 characters? Sure, but only if you consider armor changes to be unique characters ... and yes, we're including Dante and Nero in the "armor change" category. We wonder how long internet memesters can resist from crafting a Pirate versus Ninja battle ... or a Chuck Norris versus Jack Bauer showdown ... <br /><br />[Thanks, Tim]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/31/video-24-custom-soul-calibur-iv-characters/">Video: 24 custom Soul Calibur IV characters</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 31 Jul 2008 17:50:00 EST. A lot of you thought the other day's post for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/29/snake-versus-raiden-the-sciv-user-generated-match/">Snake and Raiden</a> in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/soulcalibur-iv/"><em>Soulcalibur IV</em></a> was newsworthy, so we're going to bring you another one of these character creation posts. This time, it's that Greek dude with a temper problem -- Kratos. We know a lot of you got excited over the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/24/rumor-kratos-may-be-in-soulcalibur-iv/">rumor</a>, and after it got <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/05/kratos-will-not-be-in-soulcalibur-iv/">shot down</a>, your excitement died with it. <br /><br />So, we propose that if you really want the gruff voiced warrior battling it out with the guys and (well-endowed) ladies of Namco's <em>Soulcalibur IV</em>, then make him yourself. We've posted instruction on how to make him (and some more pics, too) after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/30/want-kratos-in-sciv-then-make-him-heres-how/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Want Kratos in SCIV? It makes perfect sense that even though Darth Vader and Yoda were appearing in two separate versions of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/soul-calibur-iv"><em>Soul Calibur IV</em></a>, they would eventually have to do battle with each other. We're sure they're drawn together by the Force, midi-chlorians, and, most importantly, the Scrooge McDuck-style vat of money derived from charging for both of them as downloadable content.<br /><br />First we <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/25/rumor-vader-dlc-bringing-dark-side-to-xbox-360-soul-calibur-iv/">caught wind</a> that Vader might be making his way to 360. Now, our friends at Siliconera <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/2008/07/28/sony-computer-entertainment-korea-leaks-yoda-as-soulcalibur-iv-ps3-dlc/">have discovered</a> a blurb from Sony Computer Entertainment Korea, which wrote, "you can make a dream come true with Darth Vader vs. Yoda and My Character vs. Apprentice fights through available downloads." Possible typo? Maybe. But after Friday's story that's looking less and less likely.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/29/rumor-yoda-could-come-to-ps3-soul-calibur-iv-through-dlc/">Rumor: Yoda could come to PS3 Soul Calibur IV through DLC</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 29 Jul 2008 22:30:00 EST. The character creation tools of <em>Soulcalibur IV</em> look to be rather robust. <a href="http://kotaku.com/5030235/metal-gear-solid-in-my-soulcalibur-iv">Kotaku</a>'s CB has created facsimiles of our favorite <em>Metal Gear Solid</em> characters, Snake and Raiden, using the in-game system. While not 100% spot-on, these renders do add a distinct <em>Metal Gear</em> flair to the classic fighter. Seeing these two fighting on the Death Star with <em>Soulcalibur</em> weapons ... well, that's the kind of stuff fanfics are made of.<br /><br />[Thanks, Gambit07!]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/29/snake-versus-raiden-the-sciv-user-generated-match/">Snake versus Raiden: the SCIV user generated match</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 29 Jul 2008 09:30:00 EST. Over the weekend, a video of Darth Vader and Yoda fighting each other in <em>Soulcalibur IV</em> was leaked onto the internet (and then it was subsequently pulled). Currently, Darth Vader lives only on the PS3 version, while Yoda lives only on the Xbox 360 version. Could Namco Bandai be planning DLC which unlocks the famed Star Wars characters in both versions? It would make a lot of sense, wouldn't it?<br /><br />According to the <a href="http://www.playstation.co.kr/ps3/ps3_games_view.sce?sid=1281">Korean PlayStation site</a>, Yoda will be available for download from the PSN. That sounds like DLC to us. While Namco Bandai hasn't confirmed anything yet, we wouldn't be surprised if Yoda (and who knows what other characters) ended up appearing in <em>Soulcalibur IV</em>.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/2008/07/28/sony-computer-entertainment-korea-leaks-yoda-as-soulcalibur-iv-ps3-dlc/">Siliconera</a>; Image via <a href="http://www.gamersreports.com/news/8653/vader-coming-to-360-soul-calibur-iv-as-download-screens/">GamersReports</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/28/yoda-as-dlc-for-soulcalibur-iv-says-korean-playstation-site/">Yoda as DLC for Soulcalibur IV, says Korean PlayStation site</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 28 Jul 2008 17:30:00 EST. This is it folks, this week officially marks the release of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/soul-calibur-iv"><em>Soul Calibur IV</em></a>. You may recall <em>SCIV</em> as the weapons based fighter that features not only <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/17/more-d-cups-runneth-over-new-sc-iv-shots/">ridiculously proportioned female fighters</a> but also <em>Yoda</em>. The Playstation 3 version gets Darth Vader himself, though he may be Force choking his way to the 360 if <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/26/rumor-vador-dlc-to-darken-soulcalibur-iv/">rumors</a> are to be believed. Also on the release this week are <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/02/spectral-force-3-site-launches-first-screens/"><em>Spectral Force 3</em></a> and <em>Summer Athletics The Ultimate Challenge</em>. <em>Spectral Force 3</em> is a Japanese strategy RPG and <em>Summer Athletics The Ultmate Challenge </em>is ... well, honestly, we have no idea. Looking at the title, we'd say someone is looking to cash in on the Olympic Games.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/28/new-games-this-week-soul-calibur-iv-edition/">Joystiq</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/28/shipping-this-week-now-with-more-yoda-edition/">Shipping this week: Now with more Yoda edition</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 28 Jul 2008 15:45:00 EST. So, it's finally here. The definitive weapons-based fighter is back and we've been lucky enough to get an early taste of all the steel-clashing action. We've been practicing our combat skills over the weekend and have sunk a good amount of time into the PS3 version. So, want to know what our first few hours were like? Want to know answers to those questions burning in the back of your mind, like: Is the install worth it? What's up with rumble? If you're planning to pick up <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/soul-calibur-iv/"><em>Soulcalibur IV</em></a> tomorrow, you'll want to read on.<br /><br /><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/28/soulcalibur-iv-the-first-few-hours/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Soulcalibur IV hands-on: The first few hours</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/28/soulcalibur-iv-the-first-few-hours/">Soulcalibur IV hands-on: The first few hours</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 28 Jul 2008 14:30:00 EST. Try as we might to fully embrace the idea, the inclusion of Yoda and Darth Vader to the <em>Soul Calibur</em> series still feels like something we would have dreamed when we were 12, told our friends about and then been mercilessly teased for. In fact, we won't be entirely sure the whole thing's not an elaborate prank being pulled on us by Namco-Bandai until we get our hands on a retail disc, which, appropriately enough, will be this week.<br /><br />Also this week, <em>Sam and Max</em> come to the Wii, as does the completely mystifying <em>Summer Athletics The Ultimate Challenge</em>. We hear you can train to be the <em>top runner guy </em>and get the <em>platinum medallion </em>for <em>running challenges.</em><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/28/new-games-this-week-soul-calibur-iv-edition/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>New games this week: Soul Calibur IV edition</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/28/new-games-this-week-soul-calibur-iv-edition/">New games this week: Soul Calibur IV edition</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 28 Jul 2008 11:00:00 EST. If you're not into weapon based fighting games with a Star Wars twist, there's very little else that might interest you. By "very little" we do, of course, mean "nothing." If you live in Europe, however, you might be interested in knowing that a bunch of Platinum titles are being released this week. All of these five games are well worth their new &pound;20 price, despite the yucky yellow packaging. Here's the full release list:<br /><br /><strong>US Games</strong> <ul> <li><a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000ZK7ZMQ/102-5777777-4084119?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=prey0f&amp;linkCode=xm2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creativeASIN=B000ZK7ZMQ"><em>Soulcalibur IV</em></a></li> </ul> <strong>EU Games<br /></strong> <ul> <li><a href="http://www.play.com/Games/PlayStation3/4-/5192124/Soul-Calibur-IV/Product.html"><em>Soulcalibur IV</em></a></li> <li><a href="http://www.play.com/Games/PlayStation3/4-/6108214/Uncharted-Drake-Fortune/Product.html"><em>Uncharted: Drake's Fortune</em> (Platinum)</a></li> <li><a href="http://www.play.com/Games/PlayStation3/4-/6108200/Heavenly-Sword/Product.html"><em>Heavenly Sword</em> (Platinum)</a></li> <li><a href="http://www.play.com/Games/PlayStation3/4-/6108205/MotorStorm/Product.html"><em>MotorStorm</em> (Platinum)</a></li> <li><a href="http://www.play.com/Games/PlayStation3/4-/6108218/Resistance-Fall-Of-Man/Product.html"><em>Resistance: Fall of Man</em> (Platinum)</a></li> <li><a href="http://www.play.com/Games/PlayStation3/4-/6108220/Ratchet-Clank-Tools-Of-Destruction/Product.html"><em>Ratchet &amp; Clank Future: Tools Of Destruction</em> (Platinum)</a></li> </ul> <strong>Asian Games<br /></strong> <ul> <li><a href="http://www.play-asia.com/SOap-23-83-57ld-71-ze-49-en-84-j-70-2sw5.html"><em>Soulcalibur IV</em></a></li> <li><em><a href="http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-ze-49-en-70-2qy8.html">Beijing Olympics 2008</a></em></li> </ul> Protip: Play.com have cut &pound;2 off their Platinum price for the full range. &pound;18 for <em>Uncharted </em>or <em>Ratchet &amp; Clank</em>? Never mind that we totally caught Yoda and Vader face to face in a <em>Soul Calibur IV</em> trailer <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/18/vader-and-yoda-square-off-in-new-soul-calibur-iv-trailer/">months ago</a>, Namco Bandai's official line has remained: Yoda is in the Xbox 360 version, Darth Vader in the PlayStation 3 one. While some of us assumed both characters could be unlocked in either version (except <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/media/2007/10/ludwig-on-panda.jpg">Ludwig</a>, he pre-ordered both editions just to be safe), Namco Bandai has apparently come up with a better idea. Why not <em>sell</em> Darth Vader as DLC to Xbox 360 owners? (And presumably, why not pimp out Yoda to PS3 players?)<br /><br /><a href="http://www.gamersreports.com/news/8653/vader-coming-to-360-soul-calibur-iv-as-download-screens/">GamersReports</a> has allegedly obtained another "quality exclusive" in three screenshots that depict Vader as a selectable character in the Xbox 360 version of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/soul-calibur-iv"><em>Soul Calibur IV</em></a>. To be fair, the report only suggests that Vader would be offered as an "add-on download" and does not specify whether or not that would be paid content or a fan service freebie. The site adds, "No word on when, or even if ever it will be released." Oh the suspense!<br /><br />[Thanks, alvin]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/25/rumor-vader-dlc-bringing-dark-side-to-xbox-360-soul-calibur-iv/">Rumor: Vader DLC bringing dark side to Xbox 360 Soul Calibur IV</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 25 Jul 2008 18:20:00 EST. If you were so looking forward to a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/soul-calibur-iv/"><em>Soulcalibur IV</em></a> demo out before the game's release on July 29, then get ready for disappointment. Namco <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/17/sould-calibur-iv-demo-coming-down-the-road/">reps at E3</a> have stated that a demo of the game won't be available until after release. As to when that demo would be available, the only response received was that it would appear some time "down the road." Last time we checked, <em>Soulcalibur IV</em> was a 'first day purchase' kind of game; by then, who needs a demo?<br /><br />In related news, a press release sent out earlier today cordially announced that <em>Soulcalibur IV</em> had gone gold. There's only 12 days left <em>Soulcalibur</em> fans -- only 12 more days.<br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/17/no-soulcalibur-iv-demo-before-official-release/">No Soulcalibur IV demo before official release</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 17 Jul 2008 20:45:00 EST. Fighting fans hoping for a pre-launch lightsaber throw down will wait until <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/soul-calibur-IV">Soul Calibur IV</a> </em>cuts into retail shelves later this month, as Namco Bandai informs us that a demo for the game won't be available until after the game is released.<br /><br />According to reps manning the company's E3 room, the devs are currently putting all of their effort towards getting the game ready for its release for the PS3 and Xbox 360 on July 29. As for what and when exactly we can expect from the demo when it's finally released, Namco Bandai wouldn't say, teasing only that it'll be available sometime "down the road."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/17/sould-calibur-iv-demo-coming-down-the-road/">Soul Calibur IV demo coming 'down the road'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 17 Jul 2008 16:45:00 EST. Despite appearing in the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/soul-calibur-iv"><em>Soulcalibur IV</em></a> UbiDays 2008 Transcendence trailer, Algol didn't become official until today. Heralded as the "<span class="text_article_body">strongest character ever in <em>SC</em> series" by character designer Hideo Yoshie, Algol possesses the Soul Calibur on his left hand and the Soul Edge on his right. He can also fly in the air and has ten kinds of weapons built into his body. Algol's armor is of a bird motif and originated in an ancient kingdom lost to the sands of time. While the above picture shows Algol when he was still human, his hair color change signifies his transformation into something more.<br /><br />
</span><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/11/algol-officially-joins-the-soulcalibur-iv-roster/">Algol officially joins the Soulcalibur IV roster</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 11 Jul 2008 21:30:00 EST. Pre-orders for the fighter have been impressive on Sony's console. The PS3 versions of the game have amassed 72% of sales (52% premium, 20% regular edition) compared to the 360 versions' combined 28%.<br /><br />Such impressive numbers show that a third-party title can perform just as well, if not better, on PS3 than on Xbox 360. What can account for such an impressive showing by PlayStation fans? Could it be the series regulars from the PS2, the superior D-Pad, or the dark allure of Darth Vader over Yoda?<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.n4g.com/ps3/News-167974.aspx">N4G</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/11/ps3-soulcalibur-iv-pre-orders-trumping-competition/">PS3 Soulcalibur IV pre-orders trumping competition</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 11 Jul 2008 10:15:00 EST. The mandatory install itself will be 2,850MB or 2.85GB while a save file will start at 2048KB or 2MB. Obviously, the more characters you <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/26/soulcalibur-ivs-story-mode-to-feature-tag-team-swapping/">create</a>, the more space it is going to take up on your hard drive. Or still hoping developers eliminate them altogether?<br /><br />[Thanks, Emophia!]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/09/soulcalibur-iv-hd-install-size-2-85gb-with-2mb-saves/">Soulcalibur IV HD install size: 2.85GB with 2MB+ saves</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 09 Jul 2008 14:00:00 EST. The anime invasion of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/soul-calibur-iv/"><em>Soulcalibur IV</em></a> is relentless. It never ceases to end; with now having the fifth character revealed, how many more does Namco plan on adding? The latest anime-inspired, original combatant to join the roster is Kamikirimusi. She's some sort of half-demon and is a creation from Hirokazu Hisayuki whose previous works have included <em>The Visions of Escaflowne</em> and <em>Tekken: The Movie</em>.<br /><br />As we've mentioned in previous posts, all the new anime cameo characters are female. None are male. Perhaps, that's a good thing as it balances out the very male-centric <em>Star Wars</em> cameo cast (Vader and his apprentice for the PS3 version). With <em>Soulcalibur IV's</em> release only three weeks away, it's a wonder what other stuff Namco will hit us with next.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/07/one-more-anime-inspired-soul-for-soulcalibur-iv/">One more anime-inspired soul for Soulcalibur IV</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 07 Jul 2008 21:30:00 EST. <div align="left">48:40. That's amount of time into yesterday's 1UP Yours <a href="http://www.1up.com/do/minisite?cId=3149993">podcast</a> that reveals Kratos will not be in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/soul-calibur-iv"><em>Soulcalibur IV</em></a>. They have been playing the game on both Xbox 360 and PS3 (though Yoda is mentioned immediately after the Kratos comment, they do speak of Darth Vader later) and they do not see Kratos in it. Unless there is some last minute change, which is unlikely, Kratos will not be in the main game. Sorry kids! Let's all hope for something in the form of DLC then, shall we?<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.n4g.com/ps3/News-165380.aspx">N4G</a>]</div>

The latest <em>Famitsu</em>, according to <a href="http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=169641">translations</a> from intrepid Cheap Ass Gamer forum goers, includes some brand new information on the upcoming Namco Bandai fighter <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/soul-calibur-iv"><em>Soul Calibur IV</em></a>. Of the newly revealed details, the most intriguing is that the game is set to include some kind of "character swapping" which immediately evokes the image of tag team battles seen in many other fighting games of years past. The strange part is that the swapping elements are only mentioned in regards to the single-player game. It's hard to imagine implementing a tag feature without incorporating it into multiplayer, but we'll just have to wait and see.<br /><br />The article also includes details on the game's character creation mode as well as a few more technical aspects of the fighting itself. Hit the Source link to check it out.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/27/soul-calibur-iv-getting-tag-teams-of-some-kind/">Joystiq</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/27/soul-calibur-iv-will-have-some-sort-of-tag-team/">Soul Calibur IV will have some sort of tag team</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 27 Jun 2008 18:15:00 EST. When <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/soulcaliburiv"><em>Soul Calibur</em>'s</a> cadre of fighters cut their way onto the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/16/soul-calibur-iv-coming-july-29-in-regular-and-premium-editions/">this July</a> in North America, they will do so in pairs. The latest issue of <em>Famitsu </em>reveals that the game will feature tag team elements in order to "perform combos" based on an on-screen meter that depletes as characters continue to test the bonds of friendship.<br /><br />However, according to <a href="http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=169641">crack CAG translators</a>, it remains unknown to what extent "character swapping" will be featured in <em>Soul Calibur IV</em>. The article interestingly only mentions the mechanic in reference to the game's single player mode, and that "teammates may suddenly join and leave at the end of the battle." We can't imagine that Namco Bandai would be so shortsighted as to leave something like this out of the game's versus mode. Still, we imagine that just the idea of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/09/soul-calibur-ivs-secret-characters-darth-vader-and-yoda/">Darth Vader conquering the galaxy</a> shoulder to shoulder with top-heavy Taki (or Ivy, or Cassandra, or...) is enough to get fan fiction writers reaching for the keyboard and a change of pants.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/27/soul-calibur-iv-getting-tag-teams-of-some-kind/">Soul Calibur IV getting tag teams of some kind</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 27 Jun 2008 13:00:00 EST. A meter on the lower part of the screen will allow you perform combos using this mechanic. Strangely, there is no mention of this feature in vs. mode.<br />
<p> </p>
<p>A ton of other features are revealed, some of the more note-worthy ones are those of the Create a Soul mode, which will allow you have "50 character slots", with 20 parts of every character editable, "complete freedom for use of parts, color change, and cloth combinations," adjustable "body build and muscle" and ability to modify the character's voice. You can even buy parts and equipment to make your newly created character even more unique.</p>
<p>Information is also presented on the fighting mechanics like guard impact, instant impact, an armor bar, and something called soul impact: you attack an opponent until their health meter is red, then force them to block, and "when opponent is soul impacted, enter the heavy finish command to execute," noting that "performing soul impact is a victory, regardless of circumstances."</p>
<p>Another feature discussed is the Soulless Tower mode; but to us it sounds suspiciously like the Konquest Mode from <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mortal_Kombat:_Deception"><em>Mortal Kombat: Deception</em></a>. Full details are available at <a href="http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3168422">1UP</a> and the Famitsu scan can be seen at the forums of <a href="http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=169641">Cheap Ass Gamer</a>.</p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/26/soulcalibur-ivs-story-mode-to-feature-tag-team-swapping/">Soulcalibur IV's story mode to feature tag-team swapping</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 26 Jun 2008 21:45:00 EST. If <a href="http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3168394">1UP</a>'s mysterious Quartermann is to be believed, the PS3 version of <em>Soulcalibur IV</em> may be a rather dark, broody, angst-ridden fighter. Not only will the PS3 version exclusively feature Star Wars' Darth Vader, it may also feature <em>God of War</em>'s always-angry Kratos. The character would make an excellent and logical addition to the Namco Bandai fighter, thanks to his over-the-top weapons-based moves. If he's not included in the upcoming fighter, we can only blame one thing: his chest is clearly not large enough.<br /><br /><em>Soulcalibur IV</em> is coming out next month, so all will be revealed in due time.<br /><br />[Via <a href="www.joystiq.com/2008/06/24/rumor-kratos-in-ps3-version-of-soul-calibur-iv/">Joystiq</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/24/rumor-kratos-may-be-in-soulcalibur-iv/">Rumor: Kratos may be in Soulcalibur IV</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 24 Jun 2008 23:42:00 EST. The <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/god-of-war"><em>God of War</em></a> may be making a guest appearance in <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/soul-calibur-iv/">Soul Calibur IV</a></em> if <em>EGM</em>'s Quartermann is to be believed. <a href="http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3168394">1Up</a> reveals that its sister-publication's resident rumormonger anticipates Kratos will be in the PlayStation 3 version of the game. Kratos, meet <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/09/soul-calibur-ivs-secret-characters-darth-vader-and-yoda/">Darth Vader</a>. <br /><br />Quartermann apparently doesn't go into whether Microsoft will have its own mascot to keep <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/18/vader-and-yoda-square-off-in-new-soul-calibur-iv-trailer/">Yoda</a> and the "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/06/dark-apprentice-shows-some-moves-in-soul-calibur-iv-vid/">Dark Apprentice</a>" company on the Xbox 360's <em>SC IV</em> guest roster. <div align="left">We've reported on this <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/09/hori-bringing-soulcalibur-arcade-sticks-to-us/">before</a>, but those of you who are impatiently waiting for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/soul-calibur-iv/"><em>Soulcalibur IV</em></a> can curb your anticipation slightly by pre-ordering this official <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0018OCJ60/002-7629580-2462469?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=prey0f&amp;linkCode=xm2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creativeASIN=B0018OCJ60"><em>Soulcalibur Limited Edition Fighting Stick 3</em></a> by Hori. This limited edition peripheral will be released on June 24th and retails for $49.99, which is the same as the regular ol' Fighting Stick, so if you are a fan of <em>Soul Calibur IV</em> or fighting games in general, we'd say this is a must-have. Though you are going to have to play other fighting games with it for now, since <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000ZK7ZMQ/002-7629580-2462469?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=prey0f&amp;linkCode=xm2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creativeASIN=B000ZK7ZMQ"><em>Soulcalibur IV</em></a> itself won't be released till a little over a month later, on July 29th.<br /></div>

In preparation of Namco Bandai's upcoming fighting game, Hori is set to release an arcade pad in the US. There are a few things of note of this peripheral, as noted by <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/2008/06/09/hori-brings-soulcalibur-iv-arcade-sticks-to-north-america/">Siliconera</a>. Firstly, the PS3 pad is <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0018OCJ60/102-5946304-2779329?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=prey0f&amp;linkCode=xm2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creativeASIN=B0018OCJ60">only $50</a> (as opposed to the Xbox 360's $60 controller). Secondly, Hori hasn't announced plans to bring this to Japan. Could the tables have finally turned? Strange!<br /><br />Hardcore fighting fans swear by arcade pads, opting not to use standard controllers. We'll see if <em>Soulcalibur IV</em> dominates the competitive fighting scene when it releases at the end of next month.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/09/hori-bringing-soulcalibur-arcade-sticks-to-us/">Hori bringing Soulcalibur arcade sticks to US</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 09 Jun 2008 16:00:00 EST.
