That represents year-on-year growth of 71.7 percent, while net revenue rose by 8.4 percent to &yen;351 billion, or $3.78 billion. While other companies are slashing their end-of-fiscal-year net profit forecasts, Namco adjusted its forecast up by 6.5 percent to &yen;24.5 billion, around $264 million.<br /><br />In terms of games, 1.35 million worldwide sales of <em>Tekken Tag Tournament 2</em> contributed a fair amount to those figures. Namco also sold 870,000 copies of <em>Soulcalibur 5</em> across the nine months, taking its total to a healthy 1.56 million, as well as 660,000 of <em>Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm Generations</em> and 500,000 of <em>Tales of Xillia 2</em>, released exclusively in Japan on PS3 back in November.<br /><br /><em>Xillia 2</em> was Namco's second highest-selling game in Japan last year behind <em>One Piece: Pirate Warriors, </em>but we'll likely have to wait a good long while to play it if does get Western localization, given that the original <em>Xillia</em> is only set to arrive here <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/07/06/tales-of-xillia-localization-revealed-at-japan-expo/">later this year</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/05/namco-bandai-nine-month-net-profits-rise-by-72-percent/">Namco Bandai nine-month net profits rise by 72 percent</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 05 Feb 2013 12:00:00 EST. This year, however, things are a bit <em>different</em>.<br /><br />Seven games have been announced as official selections, as per usual: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/ultimate-marvel-vs-capcom-3"><em>Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/super-street-fighter-4-arcade-edition"><em>Super Street Fighter 4: Arcade Edition</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/tekken-tag-tournament-2"><em>Tekken Tag Tournament 2</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/mortal-kombat-2011"><em>Mortal Kombat</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/street-fighter-x-tekken"><em>Street Fighter X Tekken</em></a> (ver. 2013), <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/king-of-fighters-xiii"><em>King of Fighters XIII</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/persona-4-arena"><em>Persona 4 Arena</em></a>. The eighth game shakes up some paradigms, being selected through an ongoing charity fundraiser for the <a href="http://www.bcrfcure.org/">Breast Cancer Research Foundation</a>.<br /><br />Basically, players donate money to the BCRF in the name of whichever game they want to see in the final slot, be it <em>Dead or Alive 5</em>, <em>Darkstalkers 3</em>, <em>Capcom vs. SNK 2</em>, or any of the 13 other eligible titles. Whichever game's community raises the most money for charity before the end of this month will be selected as the final, official EVO 2013 selection.<br /><br />Donation links can be found <a href="http://shoryuken.com/2013/01/08/evo-2013-details-game-lineup-get-your-game-to-evo-and-road-to-evo-events/">here</a>, so if you want to forcefully subject people to a global <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/08/fighting-is-magic-in-fanmade-my-little-pony-fighter/"><em>MLP: Fighting Is Magic</em></a> tournament, you can do so for a good cause.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/09/first-seven-evo-2013-games-announced-eighth-game-determined-by/">First seven EVO 2013 games announced, eighth game determined by charity drive</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 09 Jan 2013 16:00:00 EST. One of the additions that is, unquestionably, an improvement: there's no Online Pass. <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/2012/11/19/no-online-pass-required-for-tekken-tag-tournament-2-on-wii-u/">Siliconera</a> originally noted the lack of an Online Pass for the Wii U game, and we've verified (it's as simple as looking in the box, really).<br /><br /><em>TTT2</em> on PS3 and Xbox 360 required a pass for online multiplayer. On the Wii U, there's no barrier between you and Tekken Ball except, well, a software update that begins downloading when you put the game in the system for the first time.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/11/20/tekken-tag-tournament-2-wii-u-edition-doesnt-use-an-online-pas/">Tekken Tag Tournament 2: Wii U Edition doesn't use an online pass</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 20 Nov 2012 15:30:00 EST. The PlayStation version of <em>Tekken 3</em> hit living rooms a little over 14 years ago, after all, and aside from including <a href="http://tekken.wikia.com/wiki/Gon">the best unlockable character in any fighting game ever</a>, it also introduced a generation to the magic of punching a giant iron ball at a dinosaur. <br /><br />Since Tekken Ball is returning in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/tekken-tag-tournament-2"><em>Tekken Tag Tournament 2: Wii U Edition</em></a>, Namco Bandai has put out a video (above) explaining the mode so all y'all whipper-snappers won't be at such a horrendous disadvantage. We promise to go easy on you, at least for the first couple of rounds. <p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/11/17/tekken-tag-tournament-2-wii-u-editions-tekken-ball-mode-fleshe/">Tekken Tag Tournament 2: Wii U Edition's Tekken Ball mode fleshed out in new trailer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 17 Nov 2012 13:30:00 EST. Similarly, the game will also be available on Xbox Live Games on Demand sometime in late December.<br /><br />A digital version of <em>Tekken Tag Tournament 2: Wii U Edition</em> will be making its way to the Wii U eShop at some point during the new console's "launch window," which Nintendo has said will last until <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/26/wii-u-launch-supported-by-23-day-one-releases-in-north-america/">March of next year</a>. Tonight, the final three of these characters are liberated - Dr. Boskonovitch, Unknown and Violet - along with former pre-order characters Ancient Ogre, Angel, Michelle Chang and Kunimitsu. All seven characters are free.<br /><br />Dr. B was last playable in <em>Tekken 3</em>, Unknown was in T<em>ekken Tag Tournament, </em>and Violet was last in <em>Tekken 4</em>. On October 9, Namco launched <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/09/new-tekken-tag-tournament-2-content-is-yours-for-the-tekken/">the first round</a> of free bonus characters, including Miharu, Sebastian, and "Slim" Bob.<br /><br /><em>Tekken Tag Tournament 2</em> will be available as a downloadable game on PSN starting Tuesday, November 13, for $50.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/11/13/tekken-tag-tournament-2-sets-seven-characters-free/">Tekken Tag Tournament 2 sets seven characters free</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 13 Nov 2012 01:30:00 EST. Specifically for the Content Business, which includes game software, operating income rocketed up 375 percent to &yen;20.136 billion.<br /><br />The best-selling titles of the year included <em>Tekken Tag Tournament 2</em> at 840,000 units in Japan and Europe (it was not yet out in North America as of the end of the period), <em>Soulcalibur 5</em> at 680,000 - it's sold 1.38 million overall, <em>Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm Generations</em> at 550,000, <em>Taiko Drum Master 3DS</em> at 270,000 in Japan only - it would be more if you released it worldwide, Namco, just saying - and <em>SD Gundam G Generation Over World</em> on PSP at 260,000.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/11/02/namco-bandai-profits-grow-tekken-tag-tournament-2-sales-strong/">Namco Bandai profits grow, Tekken Tag Tournament 2 sales strong</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 02 Nov 2012 10:30:00 EST. "We didn't know that," Harada <a href="https://twitter.com/Harada_TEKKEN/status/260927922049789953">tweeted</a> in response to players that informed him of the script's meaning. "We will change stage design data as soon as possible. We couldn't read that."<br /><br />No further specifics were given vis-a-vis when or how the update will be made available, or what the pattern will be replaced with. Personally, we're hoping for more Snoop.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/27/tekken-tag-tournament-2s-saudi-arabia-stage-changing-to-remove/">Tekken Tag Tournament 2's Saudi Arabia stage changing to remove accidental usage of 'Allah'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 27 Oct 2012 16:30:00 EST. It's currently unclear how much of that storage is reserved for Star Fox costumes. The eShop version will also be cheaper in Japan: &yen;6,280 ($79) versus &yen;6,980 in stores. This differs from the 3DS eShop, where games are priced similarly to their retail versions; Nintendo of America hasn't announced any pricing details for the Wii U eShop.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/26/tekken-tag-tournament-2-is-a-giant-download-on-wii-u/">Tekken Tag Tournament 2 is a giant download on Wii U</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 26 Oct 2012 11:00:00 EST. Mega Mushrooms, Poison Mushrooms and other classics litter the floor of a standard match, each performing their expected function when walked on by a character. The results are, predictably, completely hilarious and wacky.<br /><br />Absorbing mushrooms (or other power-ups like Invincibility Stars) changes the dynamic of the match, as larger characters do more damage and smaller characters move more quickly, for instance. We asked Harada if balance was a consideration while designing Mushroom Battle mode, and he told us that breaking the traditional conventions of Tekken is what makes the mode so entertaining.<br /><br />At present, it is unknown whether the mode will be online-enabled - in fact, Harada was unable to answer any questions regarding the Wii U's online infrastructure - but we're sure to learn more over the coming months.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/22/tekken-tag-tournament-2-wii-u-edition-features-nintendo-themed/">Tekken Tag Tournament 2: Wii U Edition features Nintendo-themed 'Mushroom Battle' mode</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 22 Sep 2012 19:30:00 EST. Specifically, the WiiPad's screen can be used to map out custom shortcuts to specific abilities, which can then be tapped in succession to perform combos.<br /><br />Series producer Katsuhiro Harada demonstrated the feature during a pre-<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/tgs-2012/">Tokyo Game Show</a> event at Namco Bandai's headquarters in Shinagawa, Tokyo, wherein banks of on-screen buttons were pressed to activate moves that would normally require directional inputs and/or simultaneous button presses.<br /><br />If this sounds at all familiar, its because a similar system was implemented in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/dead-or-alive-dimensions"><em>Dead or Alive Dimensions</em></a> on the 3DS, though from everything we saw it did not appear as though <em>TTT2</em>'s shortcuts can be used to perform entire combos with one button press, as is possible in <em>DOAD</em>.<br /><br />We asked Harada if WiiPad shortcuts will be available for use while fighting online, and he said that he wants that to be the case. He made it a point to mention, however, that some moves (such as the Electric Wind Godfist) will not be executable as shortcuts, and that a classically-skilled player will still have the advantage.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/22/touchscreen-controls-coming-to-tekken-tag-tournament-2-wii-u-ed/">Touchscreen controls coming to Tekken Tag Tournament 2: Wii U Edition</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 22 Sep 2012 18:00:00 EST. He also stressed that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/10/tekken-tag-tournament-2-dlc-characters-found-on-xbox-360-disc/">the DLC content recently discovered on the Xbox 360 version's disc</a> does not represent the game's entire DLC road map, and that "not all of the content that we've planned for the PS3 and 360 has been revealed yet, so there's still some stuff left."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/21/tekken-tag-tournament-2-wii-u-edition-launching-with-then-avail/">Tekken Tag Tournament 2: Wii U Edition launching with then-available DLC characters unlocked</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 21 Sep 2012 17:30:00 EST. This is the fourth week Square Enix's crime sandbox has rested comfortably on the throne, with its reign briefly broken a couple weeks ago by <em>Guild Wars 2</em>, which battles on in seventh.<br /><br /><em>Tekken Tag Tournament 2</em> was the only major new addition to the chart last week, debuting in second. Chart-Track notes it's been 12 years since the previous entry on PlayStation 2, back in October of 2000. The rest of the top ten shuffles to make room. Punch past the break for the UK top ten.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/17/sleeping-dogs-rests-atop-uk-charts/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Sleeping Dogs rests atop UK charts</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/17/sleeping-dogs-rests-atop-uk-charts/">Sleeping Dogs rests atop UK charts</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 17 Sep 2012 08:35:00 EST. That's what <a href="http://adventuretime.wikia.com/wiki/Everything_burrito"><em>Tekken Tag Tournament 2</em></a> is like, and it's <em>delicious</em>. Everything that's ever been good about Tekken is in here, from its surprisingly deep, accessible gameplay mechanics to its bombastic and hilarious attitude - all presented in a package more polished and refined than ever before.<br /><br />By sticking with the same ideas that have driven this series for the last 18 years, rather than attempting to reinvent the series or fighting games as a genre, Namco Bandai has produced the best, most complete Tekken there's ever been. It has also, perhaps inadvertently, published a dissertation on how to design an incredibly solid, full-featured fighting game.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/tekken-tag-tournament-2-e3-2012/">Tekken Tag Tournament 2 (E3 2012)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/tekken-tag-tournament-2-e3-2012/#5070421"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/06/tekkentag2e3201201_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/tekken-tag-tournament-2-e3-2012/#5070422"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/06/tekkentag2e3201202_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/tekken-tag-tournament-2-e3-2012/#5070423"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/06/tekkentag2e3201203_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/tekken-tag-tournament-2-e3-2012/#5070424"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/06/tekkentag2e3201204_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/tekken-tag-tournament-2-e3-2012/#5070425"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/06/tekkentag2e3201205_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/11/tekken-tag-tournament-2-review/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Tekken Tag Tournament 2 review: Bear punching at its very finest</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/11/tekken-tag-tournament-2-review/">Tekken Tag Tournament 2 review: Bear punching at its very finest</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 11 Sep 2012 12:00:00 EST. Sorry, still no Gon to be seen, but discovered fighters include that old coot Dr. Bosconovitch, original <em>Tekken Tag Tournament</em> boss character Unknown, a skinny version of Bob, Xiaoyu's classmate Miharu, Emilie "Lilli" de Rochefort's butler Sebastian and Lee's alter-ego, Violet.<br /><br />While these characters have been found on the disc, it appears they aren't hidden characters players will unlock in the retail version of the game. Instead, the full playable characters appear to be future DLC to join <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/24/tekken-tag-tournament-2s-ancient-ogre-bound-to-gamestop/">the already proposed DLC characters</a>. Namco has said that it plans to offer all character DLC free of charge, so we don't expect anyone will have to pay out of pocket to play as Dr. B when these fighters are officially unveiled.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/10/tekken-tag-tournament-2-dlc-characters-found-on-xbox-360-disc/">Tekken Tag Tournament 2 DLC characters found on Xbox 360 disc</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 10 Sep 2012 21:00:00 EST. At that point, we'll see how many people move from their existing fan communities - or branch out from them - to join a new "official" group.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/15/world-tekken-federation-online-social-network-is-your-new-mish/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>'World Tekken Federation' online social network is your new Mishima meeting place</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/15/world-tekken-federation-online-social-network-is-your-new-mish/">'World Tekken Federation' online social network is your new Mishima meeting place</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 15 Aug 2012 01:00:00 EST. Tekken leader Katsuhiro Harada describes one Wii U-specific mode for <em>Tag Tournament 2 </em>to <a href="http://www.gamesradar.com/interview-katsuhiro-harada-talks-tekken/">Gamesradar</a>:<br /><br />"There are going to be some modes that will be interesting, because they are very Nintendo-like," Harada says. "Some of this was shown at E3, where a mushroom drops down and Heihachi eats it and gets bigger. You know Nintendo fans hearing and seeing that just exploded with excitement."<br /><br />Harada can't go into more specifics about other Nintendo modes, but he describes the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/15/heres-the-song-snoop-dogg-made-for-tekken-tag-tournament-2/">Snoop Dogg</a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/07/15/tekken-tag-tournament-2-receiving-over-100-swimsuits-as-pre-or/">swimsuit</a> inclusions as "hooks," ways to appeal to new crowds.<br /><br />"We tried to add several different kinds of hooks," Harada says. "One of them was Snoop Dogg, to appeal to people who wouldn't normally play Tekken - a more casual audience - and we got the desired affect with that. The swimsuits were just another hook to appeal to a different crowd. From the Japanese standpoint, it's an interesting costume that a lot of people would be interested in. We didn't know about the Western market that much."<br /><br />Apparently the American offices were confused by the swimsuit DLC at first, but the reaction to its trailer at Comic-Con convinced them it was just fine. As long as the swimsuits are an equal-species option, of course.<br /><br />"We do have swimsuits for the bears actually. Even True Ogre has a swimsuit," Harada says.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/07/19/tekken-tag-tournament-2s-latest-gimmick-is-nintendo-specific/">Tekken Tag Tournament 2's latest gimmick is Nintendo-specific</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 19 Jul 2012 21:00:00 EST. Surprisingly, the bundle includes swimsuits for <em>every</em> character in the game, not just the ladies. And yes, that includes the animals.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/07/15/tekken-tag-tournament-2-receiving-over-100-swimsuits-as-pre-or/">Tekken Tag Tournament 2 receiving 'over 100 swimsuits' as pre-order bonus</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 15 Jul 2012 12:00:00 EST. Namco is co-developing <em>Super Smash Bros</em>. for Wii U and 3DS with Nintendo, and the title is a "big priority for the company," Harada says.<br /><br />Namco has "a lot of people" from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/22/namcos-smash-bros-team-includes-tekken-tales-soulcalibur-sta/">many of its franchises</a> developing <em>Super Smash Bros</em>., but fans have been most curious about <em>Tekken </em>staff involvement in the new game, Harada says.<br /><br />"The fans, rather than asking about Tales or Gundam or some of our other franchises, the fans abroad saw Tekken as one of the key words and took off on that," he says. "We're not really sure at this moment but when thinking of the playerbase who is playing <em>Smash Bros.</em>, maybe <em>Tekken</em> characters is something they wouldn't want, so I've been pulling back on that a bit. But I don't know."<br /><br />One of Tekken's characters, Heihachi Mishima, has been <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/07/06/playstation-all-stars-joined-by-heihachi-and-toro/">confirmed</a> for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/playstation-all-stars-battle-royale"><em>PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale</em></a>, Sony's take on a <em>Smash Bros.</em>-style game. Namco's main staff is currently focused on finishing <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/tekken-tag-tournament-2"><em>Tekken Tag Tournament 2</em></a>, but it will support <em>Super Smash Bros</em>. in some capacity, Harada says. Namco confirmed it for us today by releasing a video of the song Snoop made for his stage, called "Knocc 'em Down." Watching this video, we now truly believe this event happened, and wasn't some kind of insane mass hallucination brought on by the pressure and exhaustion of E3.<br /><br />Yes, "Knocc." We don't know. That's ... among the things we don't know about. "To novice players, they're playing various mini-games that we've prepared and enjoying them while gaining customisation items and techniques," Tekken series lead Katsuhiro Karada tells <a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-04-17-tekken-tag-tournament-2-features-fight-lab-mode">Eurogamer</a>. "Then they've gone through the mode a certain amount, and they've gained more Tekken knowledge and ability in the game."<br /><br />Ultimately, players will be able to customize their Combot with moves from other fighters and use him in the single-player and online multiplayer modes.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/18/tekken-tag-tournament-2-will-have-fight-lab-tutorial-mode/">Tekken Tag Tournament 2 will have 'Fight Lab' tutorial mode</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 18 Apr 2012 01:00:00 EST. Additionally, a new "Pair Play" mode will allow four players to participate in the same tag battle, ala <em>Mortal Kombat,</em> while the "Fight Lab" training mode has been designed to teach beginners the basics while providing useful practice tools for series veterans.<br /><br />Beyond new modes of play, the console version of <em>Tekken Tag Tournament 2</em> will also launch with over 50 fighters, compared to the 44 available in the arcade version. Here's hoping <a href="http://tekken.wikia.com/wiki/Gon">Gon</a> somehow makes the cut. We miss that little guy.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/11/tekken-tag-tournament-2-hits-north-american-consoles-in-septembe/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Tekken Tag Tournament 2 hits North American consoles in September with over 50 characters</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/11/tekken-tag-tournament-2-hits-north-american-consoles-in-septembe/">Tekken Tag Tournament 2 hits North American consoles in September with over 50 characters</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 11 Apr 2012 17:00:00 EST. The next step in the fighting game chain of evolution is, of course, the upgraded/altered/enhanced version, and thus <em>Tekken Unlimited Tag Tournament 2</em> is born.<br /><br />Unveiled during this year's AOU Amusement Expo in Japan, <em>Tekken Unlimited Tag Tournament 2</em> allows for 2-on-2 battles like the original <em>TTT2</em>, but also 1-on-1 fighting like traditional Tekken games, as well as 1-on-2 fighting. The game's character balance has been adjusted to ensure that 1-on-2 battles are mechanically fair, <a href="http://andriasang.com/con006/tekken_tag_unlimited_detailed/">according to Andriasang</a>. Arcade owners who have already purchased <em>Tekken Tag Tournament 2</em> will be able to upgrade to <em>Unlimited</em> free of charge. Let's hope these additions and improvements are reflected in this fall's console release. <p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/02/18/tekken-unlimited-tag-tournament-2-announced-for-japanese-arcades/">Tekken Unlimited Tag Tournament 2 announced for Japanese arcades</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 18 Feb 2012 12:00:00 EST. Before this year's Spike TV Video Game Awards properly started, the event's pre-show debuted a live-action, non-gameplay trailer for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/tekken-tag-tournament-2"><em>Tekken Tag Tournament 2</em></a>. Aside from being well choreographed and remarkably stylish, the trailer offers little insight into the title other than the fact that it will be coming to unknown consoles sometime during the 2012 holiday season.<br />
<br />
<em>Tekken Tag Tournament 2</em> is already out in Japanese arcades, and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/04/namco-bandai-announces-tekken-tag-tournament-2-field-tests-in-us/">five select North American arcades</a> across the country.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/10/tekken-tag-tournament-2-coming-to-consoles-holiday-2012/">Tekken Tag Tournament 2 coming to consoles 'Holiday 2012'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 10 Dec 2011 20:29:00 EST. "But wait," we hear you say from the other side of the Internet. "Isn't the American arcade scene dead? Haven't coin-op establishments gone the way of the dodo? What kind of fool do you take me for? Hey I'm talkin' to you!"<br />
<br />
Chill, friend! It's true that the American arcade is not as prolific as it once was, but the scene is far from dead. In fact, the U.S. of A.'s fighting game community has gone to great lengths to preserve its arcade heritage, and the scene is doing <em>so</em> well that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/namco-bandai">Namco Bandai</a> will be testing the latest entry in the Tekken series across our amber waves of grain.<br />
<br />
Announced during <a href="http://www.necphilly.com/">Northeast Championship XII</a>, the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/tekken-tag-tournament-2"><em>Tekken Tag Tournament 2</em></a> field test will take place in 5 different arcades across the nation: <a href="http://www.nycnextlevel.com/">Next Level Arcade</a> in New York City, <a href="http://www.round1usa.com/">Round One Entertainment</a> in City of Industry, CA, <a href="https://twitter.com/#!/SuperDojo">Super Arcade</a> in Walnut, CA, Fun Works in Honolulu, HI and <a href="http://arcadeufo.com/">Arcade UFO</a> in Austin, TX.<br />
<br />
As Austin is positively <em>bursting</em> with Joystiq editors, we'll be keeping an eye out for scheduling information as it becomes available. For now, we're just going to sit back and daydream about punching a robot with a bear. <em>Mmmmm, satisfying</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/04/namco-bandai-announces-tekken-tag-tournament-2-field-tests-in-us/">Namco Bandai announces Tekken Tag Tournament 2 field tests in US arcades</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 04 Dec 2011 16:30:00 EST. What's the point of applying a score to a game that's old enough to be enrolled in the sixth grade? That's why we invented Deja Review: A quick look at the new features and relative agelessness of remade, revived and re-released games. </small></font>

"Woah, wait a second, Joystiq," you might be typing into the comments section of this review right this second, "how in the world can you do a Deja Review on something that's new like <em>Tekken Hybrid</em>?" Well, it's simple: <em>Tekken Hybrid</em> is mostly old stuff. Parts of it are new, but the most substantial offering in the package is a PS2 launch title which has had a face lift.<br />
<br />
I should preface this all by saying I'm a pretty big <em>Tekken</em> fan. I've been playing the series since it existed and the original <em>Tekken Tag Tournament</em> is responsible for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/26/joystiq-remembers-the-playstation-2/"><span style="text-decoration: underline;">one</span> of my favorite memories</a> as a human being. But, for most fighting game fans, you've either been with the franchise for a while or you've got your reasons for not giving Tekken a chance. Don't expect <em>Tekken Hybrid</em> to sway that opinion.<br />
