That represents year-on-year growth of 71.7 percent, while net revenue rose by 8.4 percent to ¥351 billion, or $3.78 billion. While other companies are slashing their end-of-fiscal-year net profit forecasts, Namco adjusted its forecast up by 6.5 percent to ¥24.5 billion, around $264 million.

In terms of games, 1.35 million worldwide sales of Tekken Tag Tournament 2 contributed a fair amount to those figures. Namco also sold 870,000 copies of Soulcalibur 5 across the nine months, taking its total to a healthy 1.56 million, as well as 660,000 of Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm Generations and 500,000 of Tales of Xillia 2, released exclusively in Japan on PS3 back in November.

Xillia 2 was Namco's second highest-selling game in Japan last year behind One Piece: Pirate Warriors, but we'll likely have to wait a good long while to play it if does get Western localization, given that the original Xillia is only set to arrive here later this year.

This year, however, things are a bit different.

Seven games have been announced as official selections, as per usual: Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Super Street Fighter 4: Arcade Edition, Tekken Tag Tournament 2, Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter X Tekken (ver. 2013), King of Fighters XIII and Persona 4 Arena. The eighth game shakes up some paradigms, being selected through an ongoing charity fundraiser for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

Basically, players donate money to the BCRF in the name of whichever game they want to see in the final slot, be it Dead or Alive 5, Darkstalkers 3, Capcom vs. SNK 2, or any of the 13 other eligible titles. Whichever game's community raises the most money for charity before the end of this month will be selected as the final, official EVO 2013 selection.

TTT2 on PS3 and Xbox 360 required a pass for online multiplayer. On the Wii U, there's no barrier between you and Tekken Ball except, well, a software update that begins downloading when you put the game in the system for the first time.

Kids these days (with their skinny pants and their Beibers and their Twitter accounts) probably aren't familiar with the concept of "Tekken Ball." The PlayStation version of Tekken 3 hit living rooms a little over 14 years ago, after all, and aside from including the best unlockable character in any fighting game ever, it also introduced a generation to the magic of punching a giant iron ball at a dinosaur.

Since Tekken Ball is returning in Tekken Tag Tournament 2: Wii U Edition, Namco Bandai has put out a video (above) explaining the mode so all y'all whipper-snappers won't be at such a horrendous disadvantage. We promise to go easy on you, at least for the first couple of rounds.

Tonight, the final three of these characters are liberated - Dr. Boskonovitch, Unknown and Violet - along with former pre-order characters Ancient Ogre, Angel, Michelle Chang and Kunimitsu. All seven characters are free.

Dr. B was last playable in Tekken 3, Unknown was in Tekken Tag Tournament, and Violet was last in Tekken 4. On October 9, Namco launched the first round of free bonus characters, including Miharu, Sebastian, and "Slim" Bob.

Tekken Tag Tournament 2 will be available as a downloadable game on PSN starting Tuesday, November 13, for $50.

The issue stems from the level's floor texture; a pattern of repeating stars that each contain the Arabic script for "Allah." This design element was a complete accident, according to TTT2 producer Katsuhiro Harada. "We didn't know that," Harada tweeted in response to players that informed him of the script's meaning. "We will change stage design data as soon as possible. We couldn't read that."

No further specifics were given vis-a-vis when or how the update will be made available, or what the pattern will be replaced with. Personally, we're hoping for more Snoop.

The downloadable version of Tekken Tag Tournament 2 will take up 16.7 GB of space, Namco Bandai revealed. It's currently unclear how much of that storage is reserved for Star Fox costumes. The eShop version will also be cheaper in Japan: ¥6,280 ($79) versus ¥6,980 in stores. This differs from the 3DS eShop, where games are priced similarly to their retail versions; Nintendo of America hasn't announced any pricing details for the Wii U eShop.

But we don't want to downplay those costumes. There are even more Nintendo costumes in the above trailer, and they're ... magnificent.

Though there are some ancillary new features that take advantage of the Wii U's hardware, the real meat of Tekken Tag Tournament 2: Wii U Edition's console-specific feature set is its "Mushroom Battle" mode, which incorporates power-ups and music from classic Nintendo games into standard Tekken matches. Mega Mushrooms, Poison Mushrooms and other classics litter the floor of a standard match, each performing their expected function when walked on by a character. The results are, predictably, completely hilarious and wacky.

Absorbing mushrooms (or other power-ups like Invincibility Stars) changes the dynamic of the match, as larger characters do more damage and smaller characters move more quickly, for instance. We asked Harada if balance was a consideration while designing Mushroom Battle mode, and he told us that breaking the traditional conventions of Tekken is what makes the mode so entertaining.

At present, it is unknown whether the mode will be online-enabled - in fact, Harada was unable to answer any questions regarding the Wii U's online infrastructure - but we're sure to learn more over the coming months.

Specifically, the WiiPad's screen can be used to map out custom shortcuts to specific abilities, which can then be tapped in succession to perform combos.

Series producer Katsuhiro Harada demonstrated the feature during a pre-Tokyo Game Show event at Namco Bandai's headquarters in Shinagawa, Tokyo, wherein banks of on-screen buttons were pressed to activate moves that would normally require directional inputs and/or simultaneous button presses.

If this sounds at all familiar, its because a similar system was implemented in Dead or Alive Dimensions on the 3DS, though from everything we saw it did not appear as though TTT2's shortcuts can be used to perform entire combos with one button press, as is possible in DOAD.

We asked Harada if WiiPad shortcuts will be available for use while fighting online, and he said that he wants that to be the case. He made it a point to mention, however, that some moves (such as the Electric Wind Godfist) will not be executable as shortcuts, and that a classically-skilled player will still have the advantage.

Though the Wii U version includes unique gameplay modes and costumes, Harada feels that it is important for all versions of the game to be in parity with one another when it comes to character availability. He also stressed that the DLC content recently discovered on the Xbox 360 version's disc does not represent the game's entire DLC road map, and that "not all of the content that we've planned for the PS3 and 360 has been revealed yet, so there's still some stuff left."

Starting on October 9, Namco Bandai will begin adding new characters and stages to Tekken Tag Tournament 2 (the same ones dataminers uncovered earlier this month). The additional free content includes playable characters Dr. Bosconovitch, Unknown, Slim Bob, Miharu, Sebastian and Violet.

In addition to the new characters, there are four new stages for your juggling pleasure: Russia, Chile, Saudi Arabia and Magic Show. All of this stuff will be added in free, sequential updates. There's no word on what the exact timeline is for the new content, but it looks like it'll piece-by-piece rather than in one major update.

Just Cause 2 players get bonus threads in Sleeping Dogs
Sleeping Dogs is, once again, at the top of Chart-Track's UK all formats sales chart. This is the fourth week Square Enix's crime sandbox has rested comfortably on the throne, with its reign briefly broken a couple weeks ago by Guild Wars 2, which battles on in seventh.

Tekken Tag Tournament 2 was the only major new addition to the chart last week, debuting in second. Chart-Track notes it's been 12 years since the previous entry on PlayStation 2, back in October of 2000. The rest of the top ten shuffles to make room. Punch past the break for the UK top ten.

You guys remember in Adventure Time, when Jake the Dog takes all the good food in the world, wraps it up in a giant tortilla and makes the Everything Burrito? That's what Tekken Tag Tournament 2 is like, and it's delicious. Everything that's ever been good about Tekken is in here, from its surprisingly deep, accessible gameplay mechanics to its bombastic and hilarious attitude - all presented in a package more polished and refined than ever before.

By sticking with the same ideas that have driven this series for the last 18 years, rather than attempting to reinvent the series or fighting games as a genre, Namco Bandai has produced the best, most complete Tekken there's ever been. It has also, perhaps inadvertently, published a dissertation on how to design an incredibly solid, full-featured fighting game.

Sorry, still no Gon to be seen, but discovered fighters include that old coot Dr. Bosconovitch, original Tekken Tag Tournament boss character Unknown, a skinny version of Bob, Xiaoyu's classmate Miharu, Emilie "Lilli" de Rochefort's butler Sebastian and Lee's alter-ego, Violet.

While these characters have been found on the disc, it appears they aren't hidden characters players will unlock in the retail version of the game. Instead, the full playable characters appear to be future DLC to join the already proposed DLC characters. Namco has said that it plans to offer all character DLC free of charge, so we don't expect anyone will have to pay out of pocket to play as Dr. B when these fighters are officially unveiled.

Namco opted to demonstrate the service, called World Tekken Federation, in a tricked-out bus in San Francisco.

After a few matches online with a PS3 hooked up to a Mifi adapter - which supported stable net code, the backbone of which was taken from SoulCalibur V - I saw my profile in-game. Everything was in order: I had a rank, a win and loss percentage, a list of my favorite fighters and my ranking in the grand scheme of things.

Namco is starting a new social hub for people to coordinate their bear fights and virtual Snoop Dogg sightings. The World Tekken Federation is a community built around Tekken Tag Tournament 2, tracking gameplay stats, allowing players to create teams, face off in online competitions, and discuss Iron Fist-related knowledge in forums.

The community is due to launch alongside the game on September 11. At that point, we'll see how many people move from their existing fan communities - or branch out from them - to join a new "official" group.

Tekken leader Katsuhiro Harada describes one Wii U-specific mode for Tag Tournament 2 to Gamesradar:

"There are going to be some modes that will be interesting, because they are very Nintendo-like," Harada says. "Some of this was shown at E3, where a mushroom drops down and Heihachi eats it and gets bigger. You know Nintendo fans hearing and seeing that just exploded with excitement."

Harada can't go into more specifics about other Nintendo modes, but he describes the Snoop Dogg and swimsuit inclusions as "hooks," ways to appeal to new crowds.

"We tried to add several different kinds of hooks," Harada says. "One of them was Snoop Dogg, to appeal to people who wouldn't normally play Tekken - a more casual audience - and we got the desired affect with that. The swimsuits were just another hook to appeal to a different crowd. From the Japanese standpoint, it's an interesting costume that a lot of people would be interested in. We didn't know about the Western market that much."

Apparently the American offices were confused by the swimsuit DLC at first, but the reaction to its trailer at Comic-Con convinced them it was just fine. As long as the swimsuits are an equal-species option, of course.

"We do have swimsuits for the bears actually. Even True Ogre has a swimsuit," Harada says.

Surprisingly, the bundle includes swimsuits for every character in the game, not just the ladies. And yes, that includes the animals.

Namco is co-developing Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS with Nintendo, and the title is a "big priority for the company," Harada says.

Namco has "a lot of people" from many of its franchises developing Super Smash Bros., but fans have been most curious about Tekken staff involvement in the new game, Harada says.

"The fans, rather than asking about Tales or Gundam or some of our other franchises, the fans abroad saw Tekken as one of the key words and took off on that," he says. "We're not really sure at this moment but when thinking of the playerbase who is playing Smash Bros., maybe Tekken characters is something they wouldn't want, so I've been pulling back on that a bit. But I don't know."

One of Tekken's characters, Heihachi Mishima, has been confirmed for PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, Sony's take on a Smash Bros.-style game. Namco's main staff is currently focused on finishing Tekken Tag Tournament 2, but it will support Super Smash Bros. in some capacity, Harada says. If any of the Tekken characters do make it into Super Smash Bros., we're personally hoping it's this one.

Namco confirmed it for us today by releasing a video of the song Snoop made for his stage, called "Knocc 'em Down." Watching this video, we now truly believe this event happened, and wasn't some kind of insane mass hallucination brought on by the pressure and exhaustion of E3.

Yes, "Knocc." We don't know. That's ... among the things we don't know about. Like why a fistfight breaks out over Tekken.

Tekken Tag Tournament 2 will receive a new stage featuring the Doggfather of Hip-hop himself, Snoop Dogg, Namco Bandai just announced during a press conference at E3. Players who pre-order the game will receive "early access" to the level, which features Snoop upon a massive throne, surrounded by, uhm, hip-hop females.

A video for a new Tekken-themed Snoop Dogg song called "Knock 'em Down" was also debuted, wherein Snoop's Tekken Tag Tournament 2 house party was disrupted by women stripping after lost rounds, as well as choreographed kung-fu fights between Tekken-playing party goers.

Update: While it may not be the music video we saw during the event, both Snoop's new song and his stage can be seen in the trailer above.

If you read yesterday's European pre-order news for Tekken Tag Tournament 2 and were left wondering how you could get Ancient Ogre in your life over here in the colonies, we now know, and the answer is ... GameStop.

GameStop pre-orders of TTT2 will get day-one access to four DLC characters: Ancient Ogre, Kunimitsu, Michelle Chang, and Angel. Best Buy and Amazon pre-orders only get Michelle Chang and Angel. Don't worry, though, we're sure the other two will be released as regular DLC soon enough.

Tekken Tag Tournament 2 comes to PS3s worldwide September 10, and Xbox 360s in North America one day later.

Coming from Namco Bandai's European wing, the announcement was accompanied by news of pre-order bonuses and a European collector's edition, as seen above. Pre-ordering from Shopto will net you Michelle Chang and Angel as bonus fighters, whereas a pre-order from Zavvi includes Kunimitsu and Ancient Ogre, all of which can be seen in the gallery below.

Meanwhile, the "We Are Tekken" collector's edition includes a metal case, the game's soundtrack, a remix album, a behind-the-scenes DVD, a 200-plus page hardcover artbook (and the game itself).

We've reached out to Namco Bandai to find out if any of these bonuses will be making it stateside.

Newcomers to the Tekken franchise shouldn't have a hard time learning juggle combos - that's the intention of a new Fight Lab mode that Namco is adding to Tekken Tag Tournament 2. It puts players in the shiny shoes of Combot, a learning fighter robot.

Fight Lab takes Combot through a series of progressively more difficult minigames, teaching combos and schooling players on what to do in specific scenarios. "To novice players, they're playing various mini-games that we've prepared and enjoying them while gaining customisation items and techniques," Tekken series lead Katsuhiro Karada tells Eurogamer. "Then they've gone through the mode a certain amount, and they've gained more Tekken knowledge and ability in the game."

Ultimately, players will be able to customize their Combot with moves from other fighters and use him in the single-player and online multiplayer modes.

The console version will be based on Tekken Unlimited Tag Tournament 2 and will feature some of the additions that game brought to the series, such as one-on-one and one-on-two matches. Additionally, a new "Pair Play" mode will allow four players to participate in the same tag battle, ala Mortal Kombat, while the "Fight Lab" training mode has been designed to teach beginners the basics while providing useful practice tools for series veterans.

Beyond new modes of play, the console version of Tekken Tag Tournament 2 will also launch with over 50 fighters, compared to the 44 available in the arcade version. Here's hoping Gon somehow makes the cut. We miss that little guy.

The next step in the fighting game chain of evolution is, of course, the upgraded/altered/enhanced version, and thus Tekken Unlimited Tag Tournament 2 is born.

Unveiled during this year's AOU Amusement Expo in Japan, Tekken Unlimited Tag Tournament 2 allows for 2-on-2 battles like the original TTT2, but also 1-on-1 fighting like traditional Tekken games, as well as 1-on-2 fighting. The game's character balance has been adjusted to ensure that 1-on-2 battles are mechanically fair, according to Andriasang. Arcade owners who have already purchased Tekken Tag Tournament 2 will be able to upgrade to Unlimited free of charge. Let's hope these additions and improvements are reflected in this fall's console release.

Before this year's Spike TV Video Game Awards properly started, the event's pre-show debuted a live-action, non-gameplay trailer for Tekken Tag Tournament 2. Aside from being well choreographed and remarkably stylish, the trailer offers little insight into the title other than the fact that it will be coming to unknown consoles sometime during the 2012 holiday season.

Tekken Tag Tournament 2 is already out in Japanese arcades, and five select North American arcades across the country.

In fact, the U.S. of A.'s fighting game community has gone to great lengths to preserve its arcade heritage, and the scene is doing so well that Namco Bandai will be testing the latest entry in the Tekken series across our amber waves of grain.

Announced during Northeast Championship XII, the Tekken Tag Tournament 2 field test will take place in 5 different arcades across the nation: Next Level Arcade in New York City, Round One Entertainment in City of Industry, CA, Super Arcade in Walnut, CA, Fun Works in Honolulu, HI and Arcade UFO in Austin, TX.

As Austin is positively bursting with Joystiq editors, we'll be keeping an eye out for scheduling information as it becomes available. For now, we're just going to sit back and daydream about punching a robot with a bear. Mmmmm, satisfying.

What's the point of applying a score to a game that's old enough to be enrolled in the sixth grade? "Woah, wait a second, Joystiq," you might be typing into the comments section of this review right this second, "how in the world can you do a Deja Review on something that's new like Tekken Hybrid?" Well, it's simple: Tekken Hybrid is mostly old stuff. Parts of it are new, but the most substantial offering in the package is a PS2 launch title which has had a face lift.

I should preface this all by saying I'm a pretty big Tekken fan. I've been playing the series since it existed and the original Tekken Tag Tournament is responsible for one of my favorite memories as a human being. But, for most fighting game fans, you've either been with the franchise for a while or you've got your reasons for not giving Tekken a chance. Don't expect Tekken Hybrid to sway that opinion.
