Z.H.P.: Unlosing Ranger VS Darkdeath Evilman VS some new screens

We doubt you could forget about a game called Z.H.P.: Unlosing Ranger VS Darkdeath Evilman, but in case it's slipped your mind even for the briefest of moments, publisher NIS America has released a heroic number of screenshots of the PSP strategy RPG.

In Z.H.P., players not only control the superhero Unlosing Ranger, but build a sort of "superhero town" to support, train, and build items to help fight against his rival "Dangerama" and other villains. Unlike most strategy RPGs, the hero is totally alone during battles, which means it's probably a good idea to boost his abilities in town -- or risk becoming the Losing Ranger.

Z.H.P. will fight evil on PSP this October.

This is an announcement of three new NIS America games

NIS America held a press event last night during which it announced three new wacky, niche, NIS-style games for North America. Ar Tonelico Qoga: Knell of Ar Ciel, the latest in Gust's RPG incomprehensibly-named series, will be released on PS3 in spring 2011. It features a completely new storyline and setting, so if you're up for a JRPG, you won't have to do your Ar Tonelico homework first. Warning: "edgy and kinky special moves."

The other two games are both for PSP. Cladun: This Is an RPG, officially the game with the most wonderful subtitle ever, is a PSN-exclusive localization of Classic Dungeon, a dungeon crawler with a similar intentionally retro-style presentation (and an extraordinarily similar logo) to 3D Dot Game Heroes. ZHP: Unlosing Ranger VS Darkdeath Evilman, which just immediately snatched away the "wonderful subtitle" prize we awarded to Cladun, is a localized release of Absolute Hero Modding Project, a superhero-themed, over-the-top strategy RPG. It'll be out this fall on both PSN and UMD. See trailers for Cladun and ZHP after the break.

Bad Company 2 in good company on Japanese sales chart

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 has cracked the Japanese sales chart in its first week of release -- the only Western title to appear in the top ten -- having amassed 28,353 unit in sales of the PS3 version to reach #7 in the weekly rankings. In addition to being the only Western game in the top ten, it's also the only PS3 game!

The Media Create chart is heavy on new games this week. In addition to Battlefield, the third game in what used to be the Badman series debuted at #4, Dynasty Warriors: Strikeforce 2 on PSP entered the chart at #5, and NIS's Absolute Hero Modding Project gave the publisher a much-needed source of income at #6. RPG Maker DS is the other new title on the chart, at #8. See the full top ten after the break.

Nippon Ichi head of sales and marketing resigning at the end of March (update)

In a letter recently distributed (.pdf link) to the company's investors, Nippon Ichi president Tomohiro Sato announced that he would be stepping down from his managerial post on March 31. Sato cites "personal reasons" as the force leading him to resign, though this news comes only two weeks on the heels of Nippon Ichi's announcement of its 98 percent year-over-year revenue decline, and resulting JASDAQ freefall.

Though we may not undoubtedly know what led to Sato's departure, we're really hoping this is just part of Nippon Ichi's restructuring process, and that we're one step closer to getting our hands on Absolute Hero Modding Project. Ever the pragmatists, we are.

Update: Tomohiro Sato is actually the company's head of Sales and Marketing. The current president, Sohei Shinkawa, is not stepping down. We apologize for the mix-up.

The weirdest trailer you'll see today: Absolute Hero Modding Project

Man, if you thought the premise for Nippon Ichi's upcoming game, a dungeon-crawler titled Zettai Hero Kaizou Keikaku (or Absolute Hero Modding Project), was bizarre, wait until you see the trailer we've posted after the jump. Featured in that four-minute video is footage of the following:

The player's frequent death at the hands of various enemies
The game's beefy character customization system
At least three different types of turn-based combat
A cameo by Disgaea's Prinny

Sadly, there's no reference to a North American port of the game. Don't stop believin'!
