Super Puzzle Platformer Deluxe, a crazy mix of Tetris and Mega Man created by developer Andrew Morrish and published by Adult Swim, comes to Steam later today. The project started as a Flash game (playable for free) in which you shoot groups of blocks that fall from above.

The "Deluxe" part is new, with the game having evolved to include eight different characters, six worlds, and local head-to-head multiplayer. Full controller support is also included, so you can play SPPD through Steam's Big Picture mode.

Super Puzzle Platformer Deluxe is regularly priced at $7.99, though it'll be 25 percent off at launch. To celebrate, Adult Swim's also having a half-off sale on its first Steam release, Super House of Dead Ninjas, next Tuesday, May 28.
Adult Swim's Super Puzzle Platformer Deluxe hitting Steam soon originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 24 May 2013 03:00:00 EST. It's by far Adult Swim's most popular onilne Flash game, and not only is it available to play for free (in a few different forms) in your browser, but it's about a robot unicorn collecting fairies and dashing through star crystals while the 2009 remix of Erasure's "Always" plays in the background. Seriously, you better have played this.

The game's also spawned three different versions on iOS, including the original, a Heavy Metal version, and a special Christmas edition. But now the full numbered sequel has arrived on iPhones and iPads, and it's made by PikPok, the developers behind the excellent Monsters Ate My Condo games.

I'll hit the sourest note first: "Always" isn't in this one. At least not right away.
Continue reading Portabliss: Robot Unicorn Attack 2 (iOS)

Portabliss: Robot Unicorn Attack 2 (iOS) originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 24 Apr 2013 20:15:00 EST. Imagine then our appreciative, wistful sigh upon learning of PixelJam's new game with Adult Swim, Retro Unicorn Attack: Challenge Edition.

As retro and/or pixelated as its name and developer imply, Retro Unicorn Attack is an endless runner that tasks the player (a beautiful and majestic unicorn, obviously) with collecting fairies and dashing through vortexes, while avoiding obstacles and generally falling to a horrible death. The game is, besides being adorable and addictive, also quite difficult. Players can upload their best scores to a global leaderboard, hence the Challenge Edition subtitle.
Be a pretty unicorn in PixelJam's Retro Unicorn Attack: Challenge Edition originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 12 Apr 2013 20:45:00 EST. Today, we're not sure if we should be laughing or weeping silently into our keyboards: Adult Swim has revealed a free, limited-edition Robot Chicken hat for any class in TF2, as the first iteration in a series of new stuff coming from Valve and Adult Swim.

To get the Robot Chicken hat, just sign up for the Adult Swim newsletter by July 4.

In related, not-completely-predictable news, the FAQ for redeeming the Robot Chicken hat asks and answers an intriguing question:
Q. Sounds completely plausible.

As part of its launch, Velocirapture is available at a reduced price of $.99 until Monday, June 25. We love giant unicorns with an addiction to cosmetic surgery who used to front '80s rock bands but now work at self-esteem help lines. It's our kyrptonite. Previously exclusive to iOS platforms, PikPok's puzzle game is finally making its debut on Android. It's available right now in the Google Play Store for $.99.

And to celebrate being App of the week on the App store, Adult Swim is also offering Monsters Ate My Condo on iOS for free. This offer will only be available for a limited time, so make sure you hit up iTunes and give it a download before these giant monsters have gotten their fill of plaster and Ikea furniture.
Continue reading Monsters Ate My Condo debuts on Android, free on iOS for a limited time

Monsters Ate My Condo debuts on Android, free on iOS for a limited time originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 08 Jun 2012 12:30:00 EST. Now, if you've ever had the displeasure of seeing the debauchery performed at a multi axle rest stop at 2AM, rest assured that this game is not a simulation of that.

In fact, 2AM Truck Stop is a neon-infused shoot 'em up, featuring adult themes like methamph... er, "crystal" power-ups, in which you survive an onslaught of trucker paraphernalia. It's not so much an at-work time waster as an "OMG, it's 3AM, why can't I sleep... it was probably that [censored] I took." You know who you are.
2AM Truck Stop, a new Adult Swim game (not a simulation) originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 18 Apr 2012 10:05:00 EST. I've always had a bad feeling about condos. I always thought of them as either the home of some lecherous old dude trying to do gross things or the set of some sitcom starring a bunch of lecherous old dudes. Now I know why I shied away from that style of dwelling: because monsters love to eat condos.
The latest brainchild of Adult Swim Games is a pretty-far-out-there title. In Monsters Ate My Condo, you feed condos in an apartment high-rise to gigantic, hungry monsters. It's as weird as it sounds, and we're just in love with the names of the four titular monsters: Boat Head, Reginald Starfire, Mr. Shigoto and Lord Ferocious.

The game is a universal iOS app, developed by PikPok for Adult Swim, and is currently available on the App store for $0.99 -- though it's only recommended for iPhone 3GS and up. Adult Swim has also partnered with Grumpyface Studios for another iOS game called Bring Me Sandwiches!!, which should be available for download later this month.
For an after-hours comedy network, Adult Swim takes its video games very seriously; its article on the SUPER iam8bit gallery presents the show as if the most imaginative pages from our childhood diaries were brought to life and thrown onto the streets of Los Angeles. The article delves into the inspirations behind a few iam8bit artists, who seem to agree that the pixelated, lo-fi graphics of classic video games make them catalysts for creativity and imagination, even today.
Adult Swim talks with gallery creator Jon Gibson, artists Dave Crosland, Scott Belcastro, Jose Emroca Flores, Stone, Kelice Penney, Sky Burchard and Double Fine's Drew Skillman, who modded a Kinect to make live, ever-changing video-game art. Adult Swim continues to be a venue for brilliantly weird browser games from indie talent, following up games like Robot Unicorn Attack and Cream Wolf with Soul Brother, by Superflat Games (developer of the Silent Hill 2 demake Soundless Mountain II).

The beautifully pixel-illustrated Soul Brother gives you control of a variety of creatures with different abilities, all controlled by killing your current host body and then inhabiting the new one as a ghost. Each body has a skill that can be used to pass certain obstacles in the Metroidvania-esque game, like flight or double-jumping.

Adult Swim's initial foray into gaming was not very promising. A 2005 partnership with now defunct Midway produced a by-all-accounts terrible Aqua Teen Hunger Force game in 2007. The following year's Harvey Birdman collaboration with Capcom was only marginally better.

Jeff Olsen, VP of Adult Swim Digital and Games, told Joystiq that the brand's audience is pretty savvy and "license games don't have a great track record." So the company tried something different: publishing original, Flash-based games on its website. From there, the popular originals, like Amateur Surgeon and Five Minutes to Kill (Yourself), were ported to social and iOS platforms with great success. Tomorrow the company will launch its first Android port, Robot Unicorn Attack, which has racked up more than 150 million combined plays online and on Facebook.

"The audience for a casual game based on completely original IP, in my experience, is almost unlimited," Olsen said. "If you're basing it on a show, you're probably shutting more people out than letting them in."

Olsen told us that the "next evolution" for Adult Swim Games is to create truly original titles for iPhone and other mobile platforms; ones that aren't ports of Flash games from its website. He believes that the first of these should launch in the third quarter. Going forward, Olsen said, "We're trying to get to the point where we can release a new mobile game a month."
Adult Swim Games planning slate of original mobile titles originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 18 Apr 2011 09:45:00 EST. Adult Swim plans to release its first magical Android app, Robot Unicorn Attack, tomorrow for $1 on the mobile platform with cross-platform Open Feint support. Jeff Olsen, VP of Adult Swim Digital and Games, told Joystiq that the "Heavy Metal" and "Christmas Edition" versions of Robot Unicorn (currently available for iPhone) may come to Android depending on how the original performs on the Android Market.

The company also expects to launch its free Adult Swim app for Android in May. The app allows users to access full episodes and clips from the Cartoon Network programming block's popular shows, including Robot Chicken, The Venture Bros and Aqua Teen Hunger Force. The app has surpassed a million downloads on the Apple App Store since its release in mid-February.

"We've gotten a lot of requests for our games on Android," Olsen told us, saying that Adult Swim's other top-performing iOS games, Amateur Surgeon and Five Minutes to Kill (Yourself), would likely be next for development. "We're starting with Robot Unicorn because we've seen the most call for it. If it performs well, we'll look at our whole catalog and bring over our other top titles."

"We haven't green-lit any projects for the console space," Olsen added, "but we are interested in the downloadable market; experimenting on multiple platforms on a variety of new platforms with Android being just the first."
Continuing its tradition of putting out quality, humorous browser-based games, Adult Swim recently launched its latest pixelated onus: Corporate Climber. The game's a simple platformer where the player ascends through the ranks of a major, criminally unsafe business by literally ascending through said business' corporate headquarters. Basically, it's like an episode of The Office, only it's way more violent, and way, way less awkward.

Check it out over on Adult Swim's game portal -- that is, assuming you can resist the siren call of Robot Unicorn Attack. You're playing it right now, aren't you? You monster.
Adult Swim's latest Flash game climbs the corporate ladder originally appeared on Joystiq on Sat, 23 Oct 2010 20:30:00 EST. There's not much to say. It's Robot Unicorn Attack Heavy Metal Edition. In other words, it's Adult Swim's Robot Unicorn Attack, only set in Hell with metal background music from Blind Guardian, and it's only $0.99 for a limited time. Cream Wolf, the most recent release on the prestigious Adult Swim line of browser-based games, might just be the first surprise smash hit of 2010 so far. It's been sweeping through the gaming press, swooning everyone who comes in contact with it. After spending a half hour with the game, we completely understand why -- and we wager you will too. Seriously, go play it.

We're not going to spoil the game by going into too much detail about it, though we will say that you're a werewolf who sells ice cream to kids. That's a good enough jumping off point for your imagination, we think.
We now understand why everyone loves Cream Wolf originally appeared on Joystiq on Sun, 21 Feb 2010 21:00:00 EST. Starting Monday through the end of the year, people who bust a funky move on over to Adult Swim's site will be able to download a free mix tape, courtesy of Rockstar's Beaterator. The tracks were hand-selected by both Rockstar and Adult Swim, and two of them -- Cee-Lo's "Hello Miss (Armani XXXChange remix)" and Good Time Guys' "Is That You God? (Dabrye remix)" -- will even be compatible with the PSP game.

Hit the break for the list of all 17 tracks you'll be able to score from December 7 until January 1, 2010.
Continue reading Rockstar and Adult Swim offer free Beaterator tunes Dec. 7

Rockstar and Adult Swim offer free Beaterator tunes Dec. 7 originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 04 Dec 2009 18:15:00 EST. Artificial Life, Inc. has ported the morbid action-puzzle game to iPhone and iPod Touch, which means that you can now kill yourself with one finger!*

The iPhone game, like the original, gives you an office building full of potentially deadly office furniture and supplies, and five minutes to punish yourself until you actually expire through some combination of stapling yourself, smashing your head in copy machines, provoking co-workers, etc. The new version adds Wi-Fi and Bluetooth multiplayer, for death races. It's available now in the App Store for $2.99.

*In the game. We've come a long, long way from the opening days of the PlayStation Home Theater space, where the debut trailer for Twilight played in an endless cycle of brain-melting teen melodrama. Today, if you drop by the networking service's silver screens, you'll be able to view some programming that's probably more in your wheelhouse -- clips from Adult Swim's Mego-infused comedy series, Robot Chicken.

Whether or not you enjoy Seth Green's stop-motion brainchild, we think we can all agree that it's a step up from teasers for vampiric romance novel adaptations. Unfortunately, we're physically incapable of watching Robot Chicken without succumbing to waves of nausea, a side-effect from our youthful diet of G.I. The two ads Mega64 posted on Youtube do an admirable job of explaining what GameTap offers, while also suggesting that either GameTap users are complete jerkwads, or that GameTap turns you into a jerkwad.

The lesson isn't that you should avoid GameTap -- it's that you should only play it alone, where all of your friends and loved ones are safe from the dangerous levels of jerk radiation you'll emit. Check out the commercials after the break.
Continue reading Mega64 shills for GameTap

Mega64 shills for GameTap originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 17 Jul 2009 04:00:00 EST. Now EA has released a short video showing Seth Green, Tom Root and the rest of the show's writing staff "at work" on the content, followed by a run-through of what they came up with. "Unique" doesn't describe it; in fact, we're not sure any word could. "Nutshit," maybe.

So thanks, Robot Chicken. You've managed to make us want to re-install the game, if only to find out whether Whiney rhino actually obeys the evil clown and shovels the poo he fears so much. Spore, June 23 is your day to shine.
Robot Chicken's downloadable Spore adventures are totally tasteful, just watch originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 19 Jun 2009 18:30:00 EST. The Robot Chicken writing team is designing a free downloadable campaign pack for Spore Galactic Adventures, set to be available at launch on June 23. The campaign was conceptualized by Seth Green and Matt Senreich, then presumably executed by their underlings. The DLC includes "exploding poo, angry yetis, ruler yielding librarians and more," of course.

The team's exploits (in creating the DLC, we hope) will be tracked at the Spore WTF site. At least getting the Robot Chicken crew involved might get "the targeted demographic" talking about Spore again.
Robot Chicken creators making DLC for Spore: Galactic Adventures originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 19 May 2009 09:00:00 EST. There are few things that aren't better when you mix them with adult swim's 15-minute comedy series Robot Chicken. Mario was better, GTA was better and, we're hoping, that Spore will be improved whenever Maxis shows what it's working on with the show's creators.

A teaser site has been launched at www.spore.com/wtf, promising some combination of the IPs to be revealed on May 19. You can also find a teaser video after the jump that features Du Jour's Breckin Meyer discussing exploding raindrops. Consider us intrigued.

[Via BD]
Continue reading Robot Chicken and Spore to be combined ... somehow

Robot Chicken and Spore to be combined ... somehow originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 11 May 2009 11:30:00 EST. Cartoon Network's adult swim website is being plastered with ads for the new PSP. Good thing -- the adult swim demographic is exactly what Sony needs to target to keep PSP momentum strong. Check out Bertrum's Almanack, which provides some "fun facts" to listeners. Unfortunately, the site says that "Bertrum's Almanack not available on PSP system." But, games like NBA 08 and Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow are. Hopefully, this campaign is one of many Sony's planning to promote their handheld.
Sony starts extensive PSP campaign on adult swim originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 11 Oct 2007 14:00:00 EST.
