Amazon offers up Prototype at $40 on consoles, $30 on PC
It appears that Amazon is slashing and absorbing the extra cost of Prototype, as the action-packed, vertical sandbox gorefest has been reduced by $20 on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC for today only.
The game was certainly well-received, so nobody is going to spit on you for deciding to take Amazon's offer. Well, inFamous' Cole might spit on you, which would be shocking. But not as shocking as these photos of him and Alex Mercer when they aren't saving/destroying the world!
[Thanks, Lesek]

Fire Emblem: Savings Day
Have you thought about purchasing Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon, but decided to wait until the price dropped to exactly $14.98? If so, today is the day you've been waiting for. Amazon, for its Deal of the Day, has marked down the tactical role-playing remake by 50%. It's a very cheap way to occupy like a million hours. A warning, though: if you buy it now and one of your friends challenges you to a multiplayer match, that person has probably been playing the game since February or so. You can expect a few seconds of humiliating punishment, is what we're saying. Have fun!

King Hippo's boxers half off with Punch-Out!! purchase

In case you've forgotten (though how could you), the Heavyweight Contender Kit contains a miniature King Hippo crown, a punching bag, a Doc Louis Remedy Chocolate Bar, and King Hippo boxer shorts.
Unfortunately, the Little Mac boxing glove remains at full price. What a punch in the (bandaged) gut.
Buy Metal Gear Solid 4 for a bargain price of $1,000
We get pretty nervous when publishers start testing the waters with higher price points, so we like to think our sticker shock at seeing this $1,000 listing for Metal Gear Solid 4 is forgivable. But it is a pretty good game and we would like to have a second copy, just in case. Plus, there's only one left in stock!
But just as we were about the make the purchase, we noticed that shipping price. $7.99?! What, are we made of money?
[Thanks, Christopher]

Guitar Hero World Tour sale: rock out in a financially responsible manner

The item is available on PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, and PS2, and we doubt it'll stay in stock all day. This is one of the cheapest offers of full band kits we've seen! It's so cheap, it almost makes these music games seem affordable.

Retailers list DJ Hero for $120, handful of other Activision titles detailed
Pegging the release date of DJ Hero as October 27, GameStop is listing the game with a $120 price tag across all consoles -- turntable peripheral in-tow. While we are, at very best, suspicious of any release dates or price tags attached to retailer listings, both GameStop and Amazon have details on not just DJ Hero, but also Guitar Hero 5, Band Hero and, strangely, Modern Warfare 2 (in Collector's Edition form, priced at $80). Those with a keen eye and a nose for all things "exploitable" will note that these titles all come from mega-publisher Activision, making us wonder if the company has simply released the information to retail before anyone else.
Considering the price for Tony Hawk Ride (and its living room-destroying peripheral of $120), a precedent for unproven peripheral pricing has certainly been set. We've asked for comment from Activision regarding the release dates and pricing, though had yet to hear back as of publishing.

Today only: buy one of these Xbox Live games, get another copy for a friend
Amazon is running an Xbox Live promotion that guarantees awesome multiplayer fun in one of three games, unless you don't have any friends, or, uh, don't like these games. Okay, maybe it encourages awesome multiplayer fun. Today, if you purchase Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo, Street Fighter II' Hyper Fighting, or Uno from Amazon, you'll receive a code for another download of the same game, to give to a second player. You haven't lived until you've unlocked the secret Dan character in Puzzle Fighter and experienced the kind of defeat that comes from only being able to drop red blocks on your opponent's screen. It's a thrilling way to ... lose spectacularly.

Gauntlet DS found on ESRB website with Majesco as publisher
After being potentially canceled as of a few months ago, Gauntlet DS has re-emerged from purgatory with a new publisher in Majesco. At very least, that's our best guess based on an ESRB rating for the game found by a Gauntlet-lovin' GoNintendo reader.
Once announced as being developed by Backbone Entertainment and published by now Square Enix-owned Eidos, the title was delisted from GameStop's website as well as Amazon back in February. Does this mean we'll finally be able to try our very best not to shoot food on the DS in the near future? One can only dream.

Amazon offers $50 discount on PlayStation 3 today

When Amazon offers a deal on a popular item like this, its stock doesn't last long, so forgive us if we channel Billy Mays to tell you that supplies are limited -- act now!
Get an 80GB PS3 for $349 on amazon.com
PRICE DROP?! Okay, not really. amazon.com is having a Gold Box deal today which drops the price of the standard 80GB PS3 down to $349 -- that's a savings of $50. We're certain most (if not all) of you already have a PS3, so this is where you'll have to evangelize a bit. Tell your friends why they should join the PlayStation Nation. Talk about the great games already out on the system: Uncharted, MGS4, Killzone 2, inFamous, etc. Then, do a Jack Tretton and talk about PS3's upcoming games: God of War, Final Fantasy XIV, Heavy Rain, etc.
Yeah, you'll become a salesperson, but think about this key benefit: the more people that actually own PS3s, the less stupid "PS3 has no games" comments you'll see online. And really, isn't that a "win" for everyone?
[Thanks, Kenny M.!]

Moore says Metacritic not so relevant to Wii sales
We've heard stories of PR reps and devs obsessing over Metacritic scores, but EA Sports' Peter Moore's not sweating them, at least when it comes to Wii games. Noting that some titles in the low 70s can still move millions upon millions of units, Moore says that the people buying casual games and health titles like EA Sports Active aren't getting their info from Metacritic.
Moore's bigger concern? User reviews on Amazon. We'd like to snicker, but that's how we buy vacuums, so what do we know?

Amazon's 'Gold Box' deals going on today for Xbox 360
We gave proper warning yesterday, but now it's game time for the Amazon 'Gold Box' deals. We've been trying to get the straight skinny from Amazon what the deals are, but the company isn't giving us snuggle info love at the moment. So, while we cry, here are the hints:
[Thanks, Dan]
- 4AM PDT -- Fallout 3 Collector's Edition
- 6AM PDT -- "No one fights alone."
- 10AM PDT --"Tower, this is Ghost Rider. Requesting a fly-by."
- 12PM PDT -- "Risk it all to go AWOL."
- 2PM PDT -- "Taking you back to the 80."
- 3PM PDT -- "This Warthog rush is "Limited"
- 4PM PDT -- "Give me some hi-hat!"
- 6PM PDT -- "Shaken, not stirred."
[Thanks, Dan]
Amazon offering 'The Conduit' digital comic with purchase
In addition to the Collector's Edition of The Conduit at GameStop, there's the option of receiving a digital comic with a purchase from Amazon. The Conduit: Orange Lights provides back story and follows a DC talk-radio host as he digs into the origins of the title device.
The fine print on the offer is that the redemption instructions for the comic will be sent within 10 business days of the game's release. So, the game will be out before those who purchase can get the "back story?" Huh.

Amazon plans 'Gold Box' deals for Xbox 360 on May 27
On Wednesday, May 27 (yes, tomorrow), online retailer Amazon.com will be holding a full day of Gold Box savings for Xbox 360 games. We don't know if this specifically means retail discs or if XBLA titles will also be tossed into the mix.
We've contacted Amazon to find out if we can get the list of deals -- or, at least, hints to what they may be. We'll update if we hear anything back.
[Thanks, Matt]
