Publisher DotEmu has <a href="https://itunes.apple.com/app/id579566522">released</a> the remake on Mac, with optional and switchable HD graphics. The more platforms the better, because everyone should play it.<br /><br />DotEmu also has an update on the way for the iOS version, adding support for controllers including the iCade. The touch controls <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/21/portabliss-another-world-20th-anniversary-edition-ios/">aren't bad</a> in this version, but buttons are usually preferable.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/20/another-world-20th-anniversary-edition-comes-to-mac/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Another World: 20th Anniversary Edition comes to Mac</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/20/another-world-20th-anniversary-edition-comes-to-mac/">Another World: 20th Anniversary Edition comes to Mac</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 20 Feb 2013 13:00:00 EST. After bringing <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/another-world"><em>Another World 20th Anniversary Edition</em></a> to iOS, developer DotEmu has announced that it will soon bring Eric Chahi's classic to Android devices as well. As with the iOS release of <em>Another World</em> (known as <em>Out of This World</em> in North America), the Android version will feature both original and enhanced graphics and (obviously) touch controls.<br />
<br />
The Android version of <em>Another World 20th Anniversary Edition</em> should be available in "a few months." Assuming it's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/21/portabliss-another-world-20th-anniversary-edition-ios/">as good as the iOS port</a>, Android owners are in for a real treat.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/17/another-world-20th-anniversary-edition-headed-to-android/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Another World 20th Anniversary Edition headed to Android</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/17/another-world-20th-anniversary-edition-headed-to-android/">Another World 20th Anniversary Edition headed to Android</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 17 Jan 2012 16:30:00 EST. You'll forgive us, but we're banking on the concept of Aunt Eileen stuffing your stocking with iTunes gift cards rather than, say, a Zune Marketplace one. Perhaps that depends on if you've been naughty or nice? We're not quite sure how this holiday stuff works, but we're trying our best here.<br />
<br />
Anyway, below the break we've compiled another year's worth of great games on both iPhone and iPad platforms that we hope you'll love as well. Even if you don't get those gift cards, these games should still be affordable -- even after buying all those presents. Good luck with the relatives!<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/09/2011-holiday-buyers-guide-ios/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>2011 Holiday Buyers Guide: iOS</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/09/2011-holiday-buyers-guide-ios/">2011 Holiday Buyers Guide: iOS</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 09 Dec 2011 19:00:00 EST. That's <em>amazingly</em> convenient! The only inconvenient part of it is finding the right games to buy -- and that's where we come in, with our <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/portabliss">Portabliss</a> column. In each installment, we'll tell you about a downloadable game on the iPhone, iPad, Android device, DSi, 3DS, PSP, etc. Today: <span style="font-style: italic;">Another World: 20th Anniversary Edition.</span></font>
<hr size="2" style="padding-left: 5px; " width="100%" />
<center>
	<img alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/09/anotherworld97.jpg" style="border-top-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; display:none; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-top-style: solid; border-right-style: solid; border-bottom-style: solid; border-left-style: solid; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; width: 530px; height: 350px; " /><iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="299" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/ryn8AV82Qvk?hd=1" width="530"></iframe></center>
<br />
My ability to complete <em>Another World</em> is entirely rooted in memory at this point. To wit, the only reason I can finish it is because I've finished it. That's how it goes every time I play a new incarnation, and I struggle to imagine my younger self peering through the game's opaque sequences without the aid of a previous life.<br />
<br />
And sometimes (just between you and me) I think it's just a bad game. <em>Another World</em> (which,<em> holy crap,</em> is twenty years old now) has almost no guidance, no user interface, it murders the bewildered protagonist without warning and, if it's your first time, progress seems to require pristine visions of the future. Not many developers would make a game like this today. Even fewer would let you drown within the first ten seconds of gameplay.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/21/portabliss-another-world-20th-anniversary-edition-ios/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Portabliss: Another World: 20th Anniversary Edition (iOS)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/21/portabliss-another-world-20th-anniversary-edition-ios/">Portabliss: Another World: 20th Anniversary Edition (iOS)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 21 Oct 2011 20:30:00 EST. We wouldn't want anyone to miss another opportunity to play Eric Chahi's engrossing <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/07/chahis-another-world-teleports-to-ios-september-22/"><em>Another World</em></a> (<em>Out of this World</em>). So here's a reminder: DotEmu has just released the remastered iOS edition today, playable on both iPhone and iPad for $4.99. <p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/22/psa-another-world-returns-on-ios-today/">PSA: Another World returns on iOS today</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 22 Sep 2011 19:15:00 EST. Two Eric Chahi games in two months! That's got to be a record. Of course, unlike <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/from-dust">From Dust</a></em>, this second game is a remake, but it's still exciting. Publisher BulkyPix announced today that the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/03/another-world-ios/">iOS update</a> of Chahi's classic action-adventure game Another World (known in America as Out of This World) will be released on September 22 as a universal iPhone/iPad app, for $4.99 / 3,99&euro; / &pound;2,99.<br />
<br />
The new version includes remastered graphics, which can be toggled with a two-finger swipe. It also has the option to use "new intuitive touch controls" or a virtual D-pad -- we're desperately hoping at least one of them will work.<br />
<br />
The iOS remake also adds new difficulty levels -- both easier and harder than the original -- and remastered sound. This all sounds great, but, once again, we're wary of those controls.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/07/chahis-another-world-teleports-to-ios-september-22/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Chahi's 'Another World' teleports to iOS on September 22</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/07/chahis-another-world-teleports-to-ios-september-22/">Chahi's 'Another World' teleports to iOS on September 22</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 07 Sep 2011 15:00:00 EST. What better way to wait for the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/03/another-world-ios/">iOS release</a> of <em>Another World</em> (or, as the more American among you may know it, <em>Out of this World</em>) than by <em>playing Another World</em>?<br />
<br />
The beautifully remastered 15th Anniversary edition of Eric Chahi's cinematic side-scroller is available from <a href="http://twitter.com/#!/GOGcom/status/60644608752881664">GOG</a> right now for $3.99 as part of a 24-hour sale. It'll return to its normal $10 price tomorrow at 6AM EDT.<br />
<br />
This sale is a "GOG Gems" promotion -- the retailer offers a deep discount on a catalog item every third Wednesday, with the stated effort of introducing players to classics they may not have played yet. GOG refers to it as a "curated promo."<br />
<br />
Oh, and while you've got your credit card out -- <em>Star Control 1</em> and <em>2</em> are on <a href="http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/star_control_1_2">GOG</a> in a $6 bundle. If you've never played either, then you're missing out on not only a great strategic experience, but awesome spaceship combat as well.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/20/another-world-15th-anniversary-on-sale-at-gog-for-4/">Another World 15th Anniversary on sale at GOG for $4</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 20 Apr 2011 10:45:00 EST. Famed game designer <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/eric-chahi">Eric Chahi</a> shared an interesting yet somewhat terrifying anecdote about his legendary action-adventure <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/another-world"><em>Another World</em></a> during his GDC talk today. It seems <em>Another World</em> nearly ended up being essentially <em>another game</em>.<br />
<br />
According to Chahi, when he got to the point of shopping the game around to potential publishers, he initially approached (the now defunct) Virgin Interactive. The company proceeded to try and sway him to rework the game into a point-and-click adventure since "that's what was popular at the time."<br />
<br />
Given the amount of work he'd already done on the game and the formidable task it would have been to re-tool all of it, Chahi decided to leave <em>Another World</em> alone. He went on to work with Delphine Software, which he described as being "very supportive" of the game as it was -- and how <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/03/another-world-ios/">it will appear on iOS</a> devices later this year.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/03/how-another-world-almost-became-a-point-and-click-adventure/">How 'Another World' almost became a point-and-click adventure</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 03 Mar 2011 18:00:00 EST. Timed to coincide with the conclusion of Eric Chahi's GDC 2011 postmorterm on his adventure classic <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/another-world"><em>Another World</em></a>, comes the announcement that the game is being ported to iPone and iPad, courtesy of DotEmu and publisher BulkyPix. The game won't hit iOS until later this year, but is evidently up-and-running according to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/eric-chahi">Chahi</a> himself. "The first prototype looks beautiful on iPad; they are doing a great job on it," he said in the announcement.<br />
<br />
It's unclear whether the iOS version will be based on the 1991 original or the 2006 <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/18/another-world-15th-anniversary-edition-now-on-gog-com/">15th anniversary remastering</a> (or both!), although DotEmu founder Xavier Liard promises his team will "put a lot of love and care to insure that the gamers get best user experience playing this game on iOS."<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/03/another-world-ios/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Eric Chahi's classic 'Another World' coming to iOS</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/03/another-world-ios/">Eric Chahi's classic 'Another World' coming to iOS</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 03 Mar 2011 14:00:00 EST. You see that beautiful, HUD-less vista above? It's from <em>Another World</em>, the European name for the beloved Amiga game from Eric Chahi (later ported to PC, Mega Drive / Genesis, SNES, GBA, among other platforms). Released stateside as <em>Out of This World</em>, the game's 15th anniversary edition (featuring a remastered version of the game, as well as a "making of" video and some other neat bonuses) has just landed on <a href="http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/another_world_15th_anniversary_edition">GOG.com</a> for $9.99. <br />
<br />
As is the case with other titles on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/GOG.com">GOG</a>, you're all set to run it in Windows XP or Windows Vista (both 32 and 64-bit). If you've yet to play <em>Another World</em>, well, <em>what's wrong with you</em>? Seriously, it's a great game (not to mention highly influential). Speaking of platform support, why hasn't this made its way to XBLA or PSN yet?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/18/another-world-15th-anniversary-edition-now-on-gog-com/">Another World 15th anniversary edition now on GOG.com</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 18 Mar 2010 15:40:00 EST. Good news, fan of all things DS. The handheld is getting some more love from Level-5, in the form of <span style="font-style: italic;">more games</span>. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/level-5">Level-5</a> pres and all around handsome dude, Akihiro Hino, has made public his company's intent to <span style="font-style: italic;">rock the DS right out of your hands</span>. How? Well, first is a proposed partnership with Studio Ghibli, the folks behind awesome animated films like <span style="font-style: italic;">Spirited Away</span>.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/24/level-5-has-big-plans-for-ds-enlists-aid-of-studio-ghibli/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Level-5 has big plans for DS, enlists aid of Studio Ghibli</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/24/level-5-has-big-plans-for-ds-enlists-aid-of-studio-ghibli/">Level-5 has big plans for DS, enlists aid of Studio Ghibli</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 24 Sep 2008 19:33:00 EST.
