Mega Man's 25th anniversary observances extend from the PC Street Fighter X Mega Man game to these here Xbox Live avatar clothes. For your Microsoft space bucks, you can outfit your little digital self with a Mega Buster, helmet, or even full Mega Man, Guts Man, Ice Man, and Bomb Man costumes. A Capcom-Unity post shows Cut Man, Elec Man, and Fire Man costumes as well, which have yet to show up on the marketplace.

You can also just wear a digital t-shirt with a picture of Mega Man on it, if you like that extra level of abstraction.

Xbox Live Avatar tattoos now available

Firearms may have been too suggestive a topic for the Xbox Live Marketplace to broach, but apparently body modification is an A-OK, family friendly activity for everyone to enjoy. Xbox Live customers now have the opportunity to trade real money for virtual tattoos on fake people via the Marketplace. Available designs encompass the whole of "regrettable," from hot-rod flames and meaningless "tribal" scribbles to idealistic kanji symbols for "peace" and "love."

We should point out that the tattoos aren't actually accessories, but rather t-shirts and tank tops with transparent design "sleeves" that replace your existing clothing, meaning that it's impossible to have a tattoo with anything other than a blank shirt. Tattoos are also arm specific, just like in real life, so make sure you're really committed to the placement of your "Mom" heart before dropping the Microsoft points.

Reminder: Last chance to buy Xbox Avatar 'firearm' props

On January 1, 2012, Microsoft will remove firearm props it deems unsuitable for Xbox Avatars. What does that entail? Your guess as good as ours, since our request for a comprehensive list is still working its way through the machine. What we do know is that Gears of War weapon props are out.

"Xbox Live Marketplace has updated its policies to provide further clarity for third-party publishers submitting content for approval. This includes details about weapons such as firearms. Xbox Live has always reserved the right to reject or expire from the marketplace any type of weapon prop content that is deemed unsuitable for its general audience," Microsoft informed us in a statement. "Because the Xbox Live Marketplace is accessible to members of all ages, it is important our policies clearly address what content is available to all. This policy provides additional clarity to publishers in advance of the content review process."

Since items purchased in these final moments of 2011 will still be accessible to your Avatar after the content is yanked, take this as the final reminder to grab any Avatar prop "weapons," "firearms" and "gun-like" content before it's pulled.

Gears of War 3 'Season Pass,' props on sale today

Today's Xbox Live Marketplace holiday promotion covers Gears of War 3, with discounts on in-game content and at least one soon-to-be-discontinued Avatar prop.

The highlight of today's deals is the Gears of War 3 "Season Pass," which grants access to four DLC packs (two already available, two upcoming) for 1800 MSP ($22.50), which is 25 percent off the regular price. There's also a 50 percent discount on the "Gears 3 Skins Launch Collection," also priced today for 1800 MSP.

Microsoft will discontinue "gun-like Avatar items" from the Xbox Marketplace on January 1, 2012. This means here's your last chance to get the Gears of War Gold Lancer prop -- not only at a 50 percent discount of 160 MSP ($2) -- but, like, ever. The Gears Boomshield prop appears to be safe from delisting, and is also available for 160 MSP.

Halo: Reach DLC 50% off this week, Toy Soldiers DLC and more next week

If all the talk of Halo Anniversary has put you in the mood for more modern fare, the Reach map packs are down to five bucks each this week. Alternately, if the release of Dead Rising 2: Off the Record gave you a hankerin' for Dead Rising 2 spinoffs, you'll find those half off next week, starting October 25. Dead Rising the first will also be On Demand for 25% off.

There's currently a "Shocktober" sale happening, including Castlevania Harmony of Despair for 600 Points ($7.50), and Alan Wake On Demand for just $10 more than retail. What a deal.

Robocop avatar items are part Avatar, part machine, all cop

We're always vaguely shocked when something genuinely awesome happens on the Avatar Marketplace, since the very idea of paying for promotional items for the little you on your Dashboard seems to negate awesomeness.

But there it is. Robocop avatar items, promoting nothing, apropos of nothing and available, as far as we can tell, just in case people want Robocop suits, OCP t-shirts, or little ED-209 pets. Something about the randomness of it -- "hey, here's Avatar stuff from that one movie from 1987!" -- is appealing.

Something else appealing about this: the trailer above was actually a contest-winning fan creation, by Giant Bomb user MoleyUK. The gear will be out August 25.

Dress your Avatar in Bungie finery for charity

Bungie is a company that hardly needs any more exposure on Xbox Live, and Avatar clothing is something that hardly needs to be purchased by anyone, but exceptions can be made for good causes!

In honor of the developer's 20th anniversary, it's made new Bungie logo t-shirts available on the Avatar Marketplace for both male and female avatars. The proceeds from the 80 Microsoft Point ($1) purchase go to "charity" -- none is specified, but we would assume it's Bungie's own Foundation, which gives pre-loaded iPads to children's hospitals.

If you'd like to interact with Bungie in a more violent manner, the team is playing Halo: Reach all day (it's "Bungie Day") and giving away steaks.

LA Noire 'Rockstar Pass' add-on spotlighted in Xbox Marketplace release schedule

Microsoft today sent out the release schedule for Xbox Live Marketplace content over the next two weeks (May 10-23). The schedule was posted in the latest edition of the "Xbox Live Newsbeat" press email, which showed next Tuesday's L.A. Noire "In the Spotlight."

"In celebration of launch on May 17," the newsletter teases, "take your L.A. Noire experience to the next level and download the 'L.A. Noire Rockstar Pass' add-on." The Rockstar Pass what now?

Releasing day and date with the retail game, the 800-point DLC "Pass" is presumably a sort of Project Ten Dollar experiment. It's unclear, however, if it will provide access to the pre-order bonus content (already confirmed to be made available for purchase "at some point after the game comes out") or offer wholly new content to all owners of the game. Perhaps it's a sort of Cerberus Network-like pipeline for delivering new detective cases -- but that's just a guess. The Pass remains a mystery for now, as Rockstar has yet to respond to our request for clarification.

Otherwise, the new Marketplace schedule has few intriguing reveals. Besides noting some previously announced dates and several Games on Demand launches, it does list Sega Rally Online Arcade for release on Xbox Live Arcade next Wednesday, May 18, for $10. Some pirate-themed deals and the demo of Fable 3 for Windows will also be available next week. Head past the break for the complete schedule.

Update [5/18/11]: The due date came and went without the so-called "Rockstar Pass" appearing on the Xbox Marketplace -- and no mention is included in new copies of the game. Rockstar continues to keep mum on the subject.

Downloadable content is central to THQ's strategy for the (initially) budget-priced MX vs. ATV Alive. So it should come as no surprise that THQ is seeking DLC opportunities even outside of the game. A bunch of Xbox 360 Avatar items based on the off-road racer are available through the Marketplace now, in advance of the May 10 release of the game. So you can start buying DLC even before you get it!

This will be your chance to outfit your Avatar with that tiny 4-wheeler, helmet, or tire-shaped yo-yo you need to complete the virtual representation of your real-life self!

Xbox Live Labs: Do it for science, do it for avatar items

Microsoft has just rolled out a new testing app for Xbox Live in the US called "Xbox Live Labs." The downloadable app, available through March 27, consists of a series of network tests, during which you won't be able to run games or movies.

What do you get for your time, besides a potentially improved online service? Each completed test will award a unique zero-point Achievement and an item of Avatar clothing, including a lab coat, brain helmet, or mad scientist hair, even though this science seems pretty mellow.

Major Nelson has posted highlights from the Xbox Live Marketplace schedule for March. First up, the Dragon Age 2 "Black Emporium" DLC -- free to those who purchase new copies of the game -- will land on March 8 for 800 points ($10). Second, as promised, bonus characters Jill and Shuma Gorath will be available for Marvel vs. Capcom 3 on March 15 for 400 points ($5) each.

In other XBLM happenings, March 7 kicks off a Lara Croft themed "Deal of the Week," which will see Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light knocked down to 600 points ($7.50). Lara Croft DLC will also be discounted by fifty percent. Also, the week of March 14 will see several St. Patrick's Day deals, notably some discounted Green Day DLC (green -- geddit?) and Social Distortion's "Bad Luck" for Rock Band.

Xbox Live 'Thanksgiving Week' sale detailed

Apparently, Thanksgiving is a full week now. You might be thinking that makes sense -- the olden-times harvest festival on which the holiday is based must have been, like, days of celebration, right? No, no, that's not it at all.

Thanksgiving Week is the period beginning on the Tuesday before Turkey Day (that's today!) and lasting through the following Monday in which you put all miscellaneous nothings aside and align your actions with one all-important focus: tremendous savings. Sure, the bulk of your effort will be expended on Black Friday (why else would you feast the day before?), with some impulse clicking for good measure on Cyber Monday, but don't neglect Microsoft's Thanksgiving Week of Xbox Live sales. After all, you're most thankful for your Xbox -- aren't you?

Activision hands out 'free' Black Ops gear for female Xbox Live Avatars

Due to an error on Activision's part, any female Xbox Live Avatar can be outfitted in some Call of Duty: Black Ops virtual gear free of charge. Having only printed codes for male Avatar gear inside of the Hardened and Prestige edition packages, the publisher had to quickly create two universal codes for female gear, allowing any account with a female Avatar to nab the two outfits -- with the right codes. Thankfully, a CAG user has shared these codes with the rest of the world. (Those bears would be so proud!)

By inputting the code GYVF8-PF7RY-28D7V-VGWV8-CFGRM into your Xbox (or online), you can snag the "SR 71 Flight Suit"; while inputting R76BQ-CR3MF-G2TTF-9G36R-BQWJD will net you a "Woods Outfit." The duds aren't available through the Marketplace otherwise, so sorry ladies, you can't try them on first -- but, hey, beggars can't be choosers!

Felicia Day premieres The Guild music video and Xbox Live Avatar items at Comic-Con

Felicia Day was one of the biggest gamer stars at this year's Comic-Con -- she premiered the trailer for her Syfy movie Red, sat on a panel about "Girls Gone Geek" and made two announcements to the packed room during The Guild panel on Saturday afternoon: First, the gang has put together its second music video, dubbed "Game On" (which you can watch online or on Xbox Live); and second, Microsoft (which posts The Guild videos in HD on Xbox Live every Tuesday) will be releasing Guild-related Avatar skins this fall, so you can dress up your Xbox Live Avatar as your favorite Guild member.

In between her busy schedule of panels and signings, I caught up with Day to chat about what she's been playing, the new music video and about whether or not The Guild webseries, currently in its fourth season, has outgrown its gamer roots. Find our conversation posted after the break.

Halo: Reach, Dragon Age Avatar gear now available

As promised, new Halo: Reach and Dragon Age: Origins goodies are now available on Xbox Live Marketplace. The Reach items include a handful of T-shirts, a hat and Noble Team armor. The Dragon Age offering is somewhat more robust, including hats, shirts, various character outfits and armor, helmets and even a couple of props (including a nice goblet for your digital krunk needs). Strangely absent from the Dragon Age set: A Brood Mother Avatar pet.

Red Dead Redemption Avatar gear moseys on over to Xbox Live

Does Rockstar's Red Dead Redemption not satiate your need for rough and tumble cowboy stuff? Relax a spell, friend. We'd like to tell you about some new Xbox Live Avatar items now available for download.

You'll find several full outfits are on offer, including the John Marston uniform above and the Walton Gang outfit in the bottom-right corner for the boys, while the fairer gender gains access to Bonnie McFarlane's in-game getup, as well as an Armadillo Woman ensemble -- each full outfit will set you back 320. If you're a bit short on coin (what did we tell you about spending all your time playing poker in the saloon?), there are cheaper fashions available -- including T-shirts with various characters and sayings on them and some hats. There's even a lasso prop your virtual self can play with.

Lost Planet 2 Avatar items include adorable Akrid

Capcom has dropped a veritable swarm of Lost Planet 2 Avatar goodies onto Xbox live. Most of the gear is comprised of clothing from the various factions in the game -- but we all know that the stars of the show in Lost Planet 2 are the creepy, crawly Akrid.

Unfortunately, you can only snag one of the giant bugs via the Avatar Marketplace: Gordiant, otherwise known as "that giant salamander thing." As you can see, it's not quite as threatening in Avatar pet form. In fact, it's kind of adorable.

Celebrate The Empire Strikes Back's 30th birthday with Xbox Live Avatar items

Everyone should already be enlightened to the fact that The Empire Strikes Back turns 30 this coming Friday -- didn't you get that Facebook invite to our "Hoth The Chains Birthday Extravaganza?" (No? It's on its way.) If you're in the mood to celebrate the third decade of one of the greatest movies in existence, LucasArts has a pretty fun way for you to do so: by picking up one of the ten Avatar costumes and other miscellaneous Star Wars-themed accessories which will be available for purchase tomorrow on Xbox Live.

There's a selection of characters you'll be able to change your Avatar into, including an Imperial Snowtrooper, Boba Fett, Lando, Chewbacca, a Rebel Snowspeeder Pilot, Han Solo, Leia, Bossk, C-3PO, and an AT-AT Pilot. The additional props include a tauntaun pet, a ballcap with Yoda ears, and a lightsaber -- a green one this time around, for all those Qui-Gon Jinn cosplayers among us.

Cosplay enthusiasts will tell you: making costumes based on your favorite fictional characters can be expensive. Depending on how accurate a recreation you're going for, you can drop some serious duckets on materials. Not to mention the trouble of explaining to your parents who Marcus Phoenix is and why you would want to dress up like him.

That's why we'd like to inform you of the latest Avatar Marketplace update, a cheaper alternative for your fixation with dress-up. Two new game styles are available: A World of Keflings and Army of Two. You can find a plethora of branded hats and shirts from each title, as well as some full body costumes -- you can see the Ninja Bee outfit above.

Look, we can sit here and tell you about the flashy pimp duds and other Saints Row 2 Avatar items available on Xbox Live Marketplace right now, but we just can't get beyond the inclusion of the pictured hot dog suit. Even at 400 ($5), we're tempted.

Not only is it a great way to support one of the delicious staples of the American diet, but it also means you don't have to play Saints Row 2, go the Mall area and pick one up from the "Let's Pretend" store just to satiate your hot dog dress wear needs. Hooray for cutting corners with cash!

Attention Gears heads: the promised Gears of War 3 Avatar items are now available on Xbox Live Marketplace. So far there are eight items in the collection, including T-shirts, sleeveless COG armor, a hat, and, sweetest of all, a Ticker Avatar pet. The items range in price from 80 ($1) to 320 ($4). Granted, it's not the same as actually playing Gears of War 3 -- which you won't be doing until next year -- but at least you can pretend, right?

Gears of War 3 dated April 5, 2011

The Gears of War "trilogy" will conclude on April 5, 2011 in North America, followed by Japan and Europe on April 7 and 8, respectively. The game, announced last Friday on the Xbox Dashboard, finally had its big (delayed) coming-out trailer last night on late-night national television.

For those interested in Gears apparel for their Avatars, new items for the little scamps will be available beginning April 20, 2010. Items, like the new Gears 3 COG armor, can be picked up in the Avatar Marketplace, along with other Gears gear. Find pics of the COG armor in the gallery below.

Update: The Gears 3 campaign will feature four-player co-op, according to Cliff Bleszinski.

Xbox Live April schedule: Final Fight, Mega Man 10 DLC

Microsoft has unfurled some of its plans for Xbox Live downloadable content for April, including new additions to Games on Demand and Deals of the Week, as well as the April 14th release of Final Fight: Double Impact.

On top of that, look for a half-priced The Maw on the week of April 12 and two add-ons for Mega Man 10 this week: Bass and Special Stage 1. Head past the break for the full list.
