Play and complete the featured solo or co-op fan-created levels in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/battleblock-theater"><em>Battleblock Theater</em></a> over the next two weeks and unlock another special prisoner, Toast. <em>Mmm, crunchy</em>.<br />
<br />
The levels can be found under the <a href="http://www.battleblocktheater.com/">Furbottom's Features</a> tab, where every two weeks developer The Behemoth brings out a new, unlockable prisoner for completing some user-generated stages. The Behemoth has already locked back up the Behemoth Chicken prisoner, Winston, Donuts and Furbottom, and Toast will be available for the two weeks following May 3. Check out the solo and co-op Furbottom's Features <a href="http://forums.thebehemoth.com/index.php?/topic/14983-03-may-13-furbottom-fridays-solo-and-co-op-adventure-update/">here</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/05/battleblock-theater-lets-loose-a-new-prisoner-for-two-weeks-toa/">Battleblock Theater lets loose a new prisoner for two weeks: Toast</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 05 May 2013 21:00:00 EST. "It shows us that there is still demand for 2D games like <em>Castle Crashers</em>. It motivates us to keep on creating fresh and original content like in <em>Castle Crashers</em>."<br /><br /><em>Castle Crashers</em> launched on XBLA the summer of 2008, came to PSN in 2010 and was recently announced for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/16/castle-crashers-busting-into-steam/">Steam</a>. It consistently remains one of the top-selling XBLA games each month and has sold more than 2 million copies on XBLA alone.<br /><br />The Behemoth's next game, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/battleblock-theater"><em>Battleblock Theater</em></a>, has been in development since 2009 and we eagerly await a release date <em>any day</em> now.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/13/castle-crashers-clocks-in-over-3-million-knights-in-the-making/">Castle Crashers clocks in over 3 million 'knights in the making'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 13 Sep 2012 12:30:00 EST. The prizes are outlined on the <a href="http://thebehemoth.com/tournaments/">Behemoth blog</a>.<br /><br />To qualify, players must hit the top 100 on the XBLA Castle Crashers Weekly Ranked Arena Leaderboards by August 17 at noon PST. The Tournament is scheduled for August 25, starting at 8 a.m. PST and ending at 5:30 p.m. PST. The top 96 valid registrants will compete in one-on-one melee matches, hosted by a Tournament staff member, until just one player is left standing.<br /><br />Check out the full rules and schedule <a href="http://thebehemoth.com/tournaments/">right here</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/05/add-bling-to-your-xbox-in-the-castle-crashers-tournament-of-cham/">Add bling to your Xbox in the Castle Crashers Tournament of Champions</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 05 Aug 2012 14:00:00 EST. Every player's excited laughter turns into a cry of remorse as soon as he steps away from the booth and realizes this experience may never again be repeated, at least not in the comfort of his or her own home.<br /><br /><em>Battleblock Theater</em> is poised to follow in <em>Castle Crashers</em>' footsteps as an addictive, enthusiastically fun cooperative platformer with oodles of replay value and longevity when it eventually launches on the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/02/behemoths-battleblock-theater-coming-to-xbla/">XBLA</a>. I played through two levels on two separate cabinets, on two separate days with two different people, and had the same joyful experience with both. <em>Battleblock Theater</em> is a game to be enjoyed with friends, or with people who seem to have a good attitude about getting hit with friendly explosive Frisbees in the middle of complicated platforming maneuvers.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/07/17/in-fighting-to-win-in-behemoths-battleblock-theater/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>In-fighting to win in Behemoth's Battleblock Theater</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/07/17/in-fighting-to-win-in-behemoths-battleblock-theater/">In-fighting to win in Behemoth's Battleblock Theater</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 17 Jul 2012 18:30:00 EST. We played a few rounds of <em>Battleblock Theater </em>at <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/25/the-behemoth-had-the-best-gaming-booth-at-comic-con/">another fantastic installment</a> of the Behemoth booth at the con.<br /> <br /> <em>Battleblock Theater</em> still has no set release date, and has a few more stages to complete before The Behemoth gives it one. Right now the speed of development is "all on us," Ayoubkhan said, and every day is one step closer to a final version.<br /> <br /> <strong>Update: </strong>The original story read that <em>Battleblock Theater</em> had passed Microsoft certification, and that The Behemoth planned to release it before the end of the year. If made, the kit would come with four knights, two barbarians, a forest set piece and the War Machine mini-boss. That's right, you can download your free <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/04/pink-knight-castle-crashers/">Pink Knight character</a> for <em>Castle Crashers</em> on Xbox Live right now but, perhaps best of all, The Behemoth promises to pledge a dollar for each of the first 50,000 downloads to the Keep A Breast Foundation. You get free game content, a charity gets free money and some women hopefully get to keep their breasts. It's win-win-<em>win</em>!<br />

On top of the free Pink Knight, there's also a downloadable Blacksmith character for 160 MS Points ($2), a new Team vs Team mode for Player Match Arena and two new Avatar awards to unlock: a Cardinal Animal Orb and Knight Helmet. In addition to all of these goodies, there are also several bug fixes employed in this title update, all of which you can read about in the update notes over on The Behemoth's blog.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/26/castle-crashers-second-title-update-ready-for-download-grab-yo/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Castle Crashers' second title update ready for download (grab your free Pink Knight!)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/26/castle-crashers-second-title-update-ready-for-download-grab-yo/">Castle Crashers' second title update ready for download (grab your free Pink Knight!)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 26 Aug 2011 22:30:00 EST. Thanks to the release of some new <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/final-fantasy-xiii-2"><em>Final Fantasy XIII-2</em></a> screens, we can directly compare the approach of Square Enix's hi-def sequel to another recently announced game, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/11/final-fantasy-theatrhythm-coming-from-electroplankton-devs-feat/">Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy</a>.</em> Above is <em>Final Fantasy XIII-2's</em> interpretation of a "Feral Behemoth," next to the "Behemoth" seen in the 3DS rhythm game. They're both kind of purply, but it's tough to see the family resemblance beyond that.<br />
<br />
Looking through the gallery, we can also see <em>FFXIII-2's</em> version of Lightning -- which, like the Behemoth, is so much less cute than <em>Theatrhythm</em>. That's probably just because it's built on the <em>FFXIII</em> assets. We're sure Square totally would have gone in and made her <em>chibi </em>otherwise.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/final-fantasy-xiii-2-7-11-11/">Final Fantasy XIII-2 (7/11/11)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/final-fantasy-xiii-2-7-11-11/#4286552"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/07/ff13271101_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/final-fantasy-xiii-2-7-11-11/#4286553"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/07/ff13271102_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/final-fantasy-xiii-2-7-11-11/#4286554"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/07/ff13271103_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/final-fantasy-xiii-2-7-11-11/#4286555"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/07/ff13271104_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/final-fantasy-xiii-2-7-11-11/#4286556"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/07/ff13271105_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/11/final-fantasy-xiii-2-vs-theatrhythm-final-fantasy-in-behemoth-b/">Final Fantasy XIII-2 vs. Theatrhythm Final Fantasy in Behemoth battle</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 11 Jul 2011 15:10:00 EST. Well, here's a ... weird ... <em>thing</em>. We knew that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/mario-sports-mix"><em>Mario Sports</em><em> Mix</em></a> would <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/11/final-fantasy-and-dragon-quest-heroes-get-into-mario-sports-mix/">feature characters</a> from the <em>Final Fantasy</em> and <em>Dragon Quest</em> franchises, but we weren't aware of the other <em>aspects</em> the athletic Wii title would borrow from those two RPG franchises. TheBitBlock <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nEJmzi-daXQ">recently uncovered</a> a bizarre gameplay clip from <em>Mix</em> -- apparently, at one point, you have to face off against one of <em>Final Fantasy</em>'s Behemoths, using your epic volleyball skills. Yes, <em>really.</em><br />
<br />
Check out a video of a <em>Final Fantasy</em> Moogle and a <em>Super </em><em>Mario</em> Toad going two-on-one against the boss monster posted after the jump. We wonder if he drops any good loot -- like coins, or a mushroom, or a <em>Masamune</em>.<br />
<br />

Congratulations, PlayStation fans, you can pencil in a date for the end to all the anguish. That's right, the PSN version of <em>Castle Crashers</em> finally <a href="http://devblog.thebehemoth.com/?p=3002">has a release date</a> and it's <em>very</em> soon. On August 31, just under two weeks away, the game will launch on PSN <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/13/psn-castle-crashers-set-at-15-behemoth-heads-to-pax/">for $15</a>. We suggest you skip a few fast food meals and save the money for some sweet castle crashing action. It's worth it. Promise.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/19/castle-crashers-invades-psn-august-31/">Castle Crashers invades PSN on August 31</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 19 Aug 2010 15:40:00 EST. <em>Battleblock Theater</em>, the <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/castle-crashers">Castle Crashers</a></em> followup unofficially known as <em>"The Crying Leprechaun Game</em>," was available in one distinct play mode at PAX East: a multiplayer team deathmatch variant that centered around <em>eating souls</em>. It's the bright, colorful and playful kind of evil you might imagine is okay in most Saturday morning cartoons, and it's exactly the patented style we've come to identify as "The Behemoth Touch."<br />
<br />
The basic format of the demo was a 2-on-2 team deathmatch gametype, in which cute little blue <em>blockheads</em> (they looked like a cross between a cat and a bear) try to defeat cute little red <em>things</em> of the same origin. By jumping onto an opponent's head, he (she? it?) is effectively killed, releasing a ghost or spirit that can be captured. Once you grab the escaping ethereal being and hold on to it, points slowly accumulate on the scoreboard -- all the while, a timer gradually counts down to zero. This is a straightforward affair of ghost-napping.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/30/battleblock-theater-xbla-preview/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Hands-on: Battleblock Theater (XBLA)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/30/battleblock-theater-xbla-preview/">Hands-on: Battleblock Theater (XBLA)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 30 Mar 2010 15:00:00 EST. The bad news: <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/the-behemoth">The Behemoth</a> still hasn't nailed down a release date -- or even a release month -- for the PSN version of <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/castle-crashers"><em>Castle Crashers</em></a> (though it's still slated for this year). The good news: PlayStation 3 owners will be treated to some brand new content. Specifically, a recent entry on <a href="http://devblog.thebehemoth.com/?p=2168">The Behemoth dev blog</a> revealed that the PSN version of the game will feature a new volleyball mini-game. The mini-game will allow up to eight players (locally <em>or</em> online) to play a game of volleyball using any of a player's unlocked characters. It will feature new serve and spike moves and magic attacks that place one of eight status effects on the ball. The volleyball game will even include its own leaderboards.<br />
<br />
Again, it's not much to dull the pain of waiting, but at least the PSN is getting something extra in the deal. Also, if it makes you feel any better, The Behemoth will be showing off <em>Castle Crashers</em> and <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/battleblock-theater"><em>Battleblock Theater</em></a> at <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/pax-east">PAX East</a> next month.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/25/all-about-castle-crashers-volleyball-on-psn/">All about Castle Crashers Volleyball on PSN</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 25 Feb 2010 17:14:00 EST. With only two days of daily holiday deals left, it looks like Microsoft decided to make today's a doozy. Like the headline says, today's deal is <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/castle-crashers"><em>Castle Crashers</em></a> for a mere 560<img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" />. That's sevenearth dollars and, more importantly, a substantial savings over the usual 1200<img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" /> ($15) price tag. If you haven't experienced the co-op glory, now is the time. Trust us, people like this game. They like it so much that they <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/24/castle-crash-halloween-with-this-behemoth-of-a-costume/">build costumes</a> of their favorite characters.<br />
<br />
If you don't have it yet, you need that kind of joy in your life.<br />

Rather than employing the glitz and glamor of a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/12/assassins-creed-2-dev-diary-talks-about-the-exciting-world-of/">AAA-title's dev diary</a>, The Behemoth kicks things a bit more old-school in its first dev diary for the development studios <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/the-sugarcube-leprechaun/">third game</a> (found after the break). Featuring the game's "Soul Mode" (the name is still tentative), the clip details how two players work together to hang on to multiple souls for as long as possible. <br /><br />Narrators from The Behemoth guide us through the four minute journey, culminating in their vast triumph over AI combatants. The talking heads do mention that the game will most certainly have a story mode, and we'll be getting a chance to check out more at <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/pax-2009">PAX 2009</a> and then <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/tokyo-game-show">Tokyo Game Show</a> not long after. Now all the game needs is, um, <span style="font-style: italic;">a name</span>.<br /><br />[Thanks, Deniz!]<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/14/the-behemoths-third-game-gets-its-first-dev-diary/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The Behemoth's third game gets its first dev diary</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/14/the-behemoths-third-game-gets-its-first-dev-diary/">The Behemoth's third game gets its first dev diary</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 14 Aug 2009 00:00:00 EST. <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/the-behemoth">The Behemoth</a> took the time out of its busy <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/17/the-behemoth-reveals-trailer-for-third-game/"><em>Crying Sugar Cube Leprechaun</em></a> (not real title) development to reveal that the <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/castle-crashers"><em>Castle Crashers</em></a> leaderboards have passed 900,000 users. That does not mean there have been nearly a million sales of the game, but it does mean that <em>Castle Crashers</em> has been doing well on <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/xbla">XBLA</a>, a mere 8 months after launch.<br /><br />The company's site is now <a href="http://devblog.thebehemoth.com/?p=1255">challenging</a> users to guess the exact date and time that the main <em>Castle Crashers </em>leaderboard will hit one million players. The winner will receive something "SPECTACULAR." The Behemoth has announced that it's ready to unveil a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/09/castle-crasher-devs-third-game-closer-to-unveiling/">trailer</a> for its third game on March 18, "just a few days before" the Tokyo Anime Fair. The <a href="http://devblog.thebehemoth.com/?p=1155">latest post</a> on the company blog informs that several of the developers are going to the Tokyo Anime Fair on March 20-21 and will showcase <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/alien-hominid">Alien Hominid</a>, <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/castle-crashers">Castle Crashers</a></em> and "an uber-early version of Game #3." So, if you're in Tokyo, would you kindly upload any gameplay video you capture to YouTube?<br /><br />As an amuse bouche, The Behemoth also showed off an image from the new game (pictured). With the curtain removed, we get an insider's look into the creation process and how the evil Frost King came to be. As you can see per the art above, Mr. Paladin puts a heavy coat of "artistic magic" over the placeholder designs which sort of remind us of some sort of third grade school art project. View the creation of the Frost King in the 650% normal speed video that's embedded after the break. Paladin had little to say about the game apart from the fact that the company is "off to a very strong &amp; solid start" and that those who have played the game seem to enjoy it. We suppose that's a good sign, right? Paladin added that the Behemoth might start posting images from the new game and see if the community can guess what the game is all about. Then again, he might just tell us.<br /><br />Our guess? An epic, episodic, massively multiplayer online first-person shooter real time strategy role-playing game. That's right, an MMOFPSRTSRPG. For <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/xbla/">Xbox Live Arcade</a>, of course.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/16/the-behemoth-begins-work-on-new-game/">The Behemoth begins work on new game</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 16 Jan 2009 15:00:00 EST. Curious as to what <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/castle-crashers">Castle Crashers</a> </em>developer The Behemoth has been up to lately? Well <em>too bad</em>, because the team isn't saying. Co-founder and self-proclaimed <a href="http://devblog.thebehemoth.com/?p=508">Best Blogger of 2009</a> Dan Paladin, however, is teasing on the company's site that they've been prototyping a new game. No other details are provided. Our prediction? It's gonna <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/alienhominid">look like</a> a Flash game.<br /><br />Last week, Microsoft announced that <em>Castle Crashers</em> was the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/04/major-nelson-reveals-top-20-xbox-live-games-and-arcade-downloads/">most popular Xbox Live Arcade game</a> of 2008 and ranked it 17th out of all Xbox LIVE titles. The King Pack DLC debuted earlier this week for 160<img border="0" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" /> ($2).<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/16/castle-crashers-dev-teases-new-game/">Castle Crashers dev teases new game</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 16 Jan 2009 14:24:00 EST. We've got new <em>Castle Crashers </em>DLC coming to Xbox Live Arcade this week<em> </em>for 160 <img border="0" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" /> ($2), according to <a href="http://majornelson.com/archive/2009/01/13/upcoming-on-arcade-castle-crashers-dlc-and-the-maw.aspx">Major Major Major Major (Nelson)</a><em>. </em>As of this writing, no other details were available on his site nor on the <a href="http://devblog.thebehemoth.com/">Behemoth's blog</a>, but we suspect it's probably the new characters and weapons we heard about <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/08/first-castle-crashers-dlc-details-divulged/">in September</a>. Sure, it's not <em>technically</em> a new title, but we'll let them slide this time. After all, it <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/31/wednesday-this-merv-griffins-crosswords-on-xbla/">could be worse</a>. As for the week after, you've got <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/the-maw">The Maw</a>.</em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/13/this-wednesday-castle-crashers-dlc/">This Wednesday: Castle Crashers DLC hitting XBLA</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 13 Jan 2009 12:56:00 EST. Can it really be? Are our eyes deceiving us? We don't know the exact size, but the update took mere seconds to install. <div align="left"><strong>Update:</strong> The <em>Castle Crashers</em> patch has now been released. Original post below.<br /><br />It's so very true! The long awaited, long demanded and long delayed online co-op fixing <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/castle-crashers"><em>Castle Crashers</em></a> patch is but a few hours away from being released. Developer The Behemoth just informed the masses via their <a href="http://forums.thebehemoth.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&amp;t=3462&amp;st=0&amp;sk=t&amp;sd=a">official forums</a> that the <em>Castle Crashers</em> patch has passed Microsoft certification and will release as a title update later this morning at <strong>5:00AM eastern</strong> (2:00AM pacific). We're speechless!<br /></div>
</div>
<br />After chatting with The Behemoth a few weeks back, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/01/the-behemoth-release-of-castle-crashers-patching-nearing-end-o/">we were told</a> that the patch was still being worked on and not through Microsoft cert. So, their recent announcement about its release has sort of caught us by surprise. No matter, <em>Castle Crashers </em>patch countdown is GO! Pinch us, we must be dreaming.<br /><br />[Thanks, to everyone who sent this in]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/24/no-joke-castle-crashers-patch-releases-today/">No joke, Castle Crashers patch has released! We finally have some news on the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/05/castle-crashers-patch-still-without-release-date/">long-awaited</a> patch for <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/castle-crashers">Castle Crashers</a>. </em>According to a <a href="http://devblog.thebehemoth.com/?p=431">post</a> on developer Behemoth's site, the problems (including connectivity issues) have been "knocked out" and the team is currently verifying the updates before sending it off to Microsoft for certification. <br /><br />In perhaps one of the biggest understatements, the post states, "we are aware that many of you are unhappy about the wait" but explains that they had to fix all known issues at once, as opposed to release incremental updates. Certification can take a few weeks, so don't hold out hope for seeing the patch before Halloween. There should be <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/new-games-this-month-october-2008/1081236/">more than enough titles</a> to keep your attention in the interim.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/13/castle-crashers-patch-readied-for-certification/">Castle Crashers patch readied for certification</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 13 Oct 2008 15:30:00 EST. As a general rule of thumb, there is one thing that can make an awesome game even <em>awesomer</em>. That one thing, as we're sure you've already guessed, is a chainsaw. Smart company that it is, The Behemoth has <a href="http://devblog.thebehemoth.com/?p=334">announced</a> that not only will upcoming <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/castle-crashers"><em>Castle Crashers</em></a> DLC add two new characters -- the King and the Necromancer -- but also a <em>chainsaw</em>. Why is there a chainsaw in what is obviously a medieval world? Shut up is why.<br /><br />Those of you experiencing connection problems -- like us -- fear not, for The Behemoth has promised that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/31/pax08-castle-crashers-patch-promised-to-release-asap/">fixing the technical issues</a> in <em>Castle Crashers</em> is "top priority." Considering that the patch has no given release date, that makes the release of the DLC even more nebulous. Other details, like the price, are also up in the air. Here's hoping we get our patch and our DLC sooner rather than later.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/08/first-castle-crashers-dlc-details-divulged/">Joystiq</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/09/castle-crashers-dlc-2-characters-chainsaw/">Castle Crashers DLC: 2 characters, chainsaw(!)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 09 Sep 2008 12:45:00 EST. Despite keeping players salivating over<em> Castle Crashers</em>' eventual price and release date, The Behemoth's hand-drawn epic nonetheless remained near the top of a short list of 2008's most anticipated titles right up until the game's recent XBLA debut. Since then, <em>Castle Crashers</em> has more or less delivered on its promises of manic 2D brawling, though a near-crippled online experience threatened to send us stomping off to our rooms in contempt. Nevertheless, at the end of the day <em>Castle Crashers</em> is still a heck of a lot of fun to play. <br /><br />Fun as it is, however, we recently managed to put the controllers down long enough to speak with The Behemoth's Emil Ayoubkhan and Dan Paladin to discuss their game's price, what took the game so long and what the team has planned now that <em>Castle Crashers</em> is out the door. <br /><br />A quick addendum: This interview was conducted just before its release on XBLA but, due to Wednesday's <a href="http://www.cnn.com/2008/TECH/09/08/lhc.collider/index.html">Large Hadron Collider</a> test, got lost in a black hole. Read on little soldiers! <span style="font-style: italic;">Castle Crashers</span> has invaded Xbox Live Arcade and, unless you're having <a href="http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/2008/08/27/poll-castle-crashers-connectivity-issues/">connectivity issues</a>, chances are you've discovered the charm in this <span style="text-decoration: line-through;">homage</span> <span style="text-decoration: line-through;">revolution</span> modern iteration of the beat 'em up genre. The game seems to be receiving positive reviews for its ambition as an XBLA title, but those pesky connection issues are causing reviewers to shave points off "Castle Crashes'" overall score.<br />

The main storyline offers hours of bad-guy beating and princess-rescuing fun that it is sure to please. The ability to play with friends should make the experience richer, even if it is limited to a more local experience. As a testament to its entertainment, feature losses and some disappointing online play hardly slow this juggernaut of amusement down. This is an absurdly hilarious romp you won't soon forget."</li>

I'm left wondering why I spent $15 (1200 MS points) on a five-hour single player game. Multiple playthroughs will unlock new characters, but the repetitive nature is a bit tiresome. Avoid purchasing <span style="font-style: italic;">Castle Crashers</span> until the developer sorts the major online problems out."</li>

With all the hubbub surrounding <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/castle-crashers"><em>Castle Crashers</em></a> this week, we were eager to download our own copy this morning. After trying out the single player campaign it was time to try out some online multiplayer. And that's when the problems started. Try as we might, we simply can't get into an online game. So far, we've managed to get into one game, but that abruptly ended after about a minute with the message that the game was no longer available. Crisis averted! Those who fretted over <em>Castle Crashers' </em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/30/japanese-xbox-site-lists-castle-crashers-for-1800ms-points-brai/">reported 1800 MS point</a> entry fee can finally <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/31/castle-crashers-devs-say-1800-ms-point-price-incorrect/">un-tense their muscles</a> and relax. Behemoth has announced on its <a href="http://devblog.thebehemoth.com/?p=300">development blog</a> that the price tag is a more palatable 1200 MS points (US $15). Is that the sweet spot for this month's only online multiplayer game? <em>Castle Crashers</em> begins, erm, crashing castles <strike>next</strike> Wednesday, August 27.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/2008/08/14/castle-crashers-set-at-1200ms-points/">X3F</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/14/castle-crashers-priced-for-1200-ms-points/">Castle Crashers priced for 1200 MS points</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 14 Aug 2008 09:15:00 EST. <div align="left">After yesterday's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/30/summer-of-arcade-may-terrorize-your-wallet/">discovery</a> and following <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/30/microsoft-high-braid-and-castle-crashers-prices-incorrect/">denial</a> of an 1800 MS Points price for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/castle-crashers"><em>Castle Crashers</em></a>, The Behemoth's Emil Ayoubkhan has made an <a href="http://devblog.thebehemoth.com/?p=274">official comment</a> on the <em>Castle Crashers </em>development blog. According to Ayoubkhan, not only is the 1800 point price incorrect, but the price itself hasn't even been decided. "Both The Behemoth and Microsoft are still working together to figure out a reasonable price point. (not 1800 points)," says Ayoubkhan. He adds that the final price of <em>Castle Crashers</em> will be set by Microsoft (in other words, if the price is high, it's Microsoft's fault). Whatever the price is, we should know for sure by August 25.</div>

It might be a little too early to breathe a sigh of relief, but things could be looking up for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/castle-crashers"><em>Castle Crashers</em></a> and <em>Braid</em>. Both were <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/castle-crashers">recently listed</a> on the official Japanese Xbox 360 blog for the relatively high prices of 1800 ($22.50) and 1200 ($15.00) points respectively. According to <a href="http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/53933">Shacknews</a>, Microsoft has denied these prices, noting that they are "incorrect for both domestic and international markets." Microsoft adds that the official prices will be revealed on the Mondays before <em>Braid</em> and <em>Castle Crashers</em> release dates, which are August 4 and 25 respectively.<br /><br />You can all put your torches and pitchforks away ... for now.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/30/microsoft-high-braid-and-castle-crashers-prices-incorrect/">Microsoft: high Braid and Castle Crashers prices incorrect</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 30 Jul 2008 17:45:00 EST. Thanks to <a href="http://devblog.thebehemoth.com/">the dedicated blogging of the folks at Behemoth</a>, we pretty much knew everything there was to know about <span style="font-style: italic;">Castle Crashers</span> coming into E3 -- it's the followup to <span style="font-style: italic;">Alien Hominid</span>, a game that <a href="http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/59593">started out on Newgrounds</a>, and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/02/24/confirmed-alien-hominid-hd-this-wednesday/">ended up on the XBLA</a>. It's got tons of <a href="http://devblog.thebehemoth.com/?p=241">playable characters</a>, lots of <a href="http://devblog.thebehemoth.com/?cat=10">"animal orbs"</a> you can recruit to fight with you, and a great art style and a sly sense of humor. In fact, the only thing we didn't know about it was probably the most important thing: how it actually played.<br /> <br /> After playing it with Microsoft Director of Digitally Distributed Content Scott Austin here at E3, we can safely say it's going to be one of the biggest XBLA titles of this year (it's due out before September 21st). <span style="font-style: italic;">Castle Crashers</span> is crazy good button mashing fun, and we can't wait to lay down our hard-earned Microsoft Points for it.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/17/joystiq-e3-hands-on-castle-crashers/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Joystiq E3 Hands-on: Castle Crashers</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/17/joystiq-e3-hands-on-castle-crashers/">Joystiq E3 Hands-on: Castle Crashers</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 17 Jul 2008 10:00:00 EST. Earlier this week, we were treated to a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/17/a-ninja-sneaks-into-castle-crashers/">new ninja character</a> and <em>now</em> we discover that there is also a <a href="http://devblog.thebehemoth.com/?p=213">skeleton</a>. We don't know much about him (or her) apart from the fact that he wields a bone firing bow as his long range weapon. Since we know so little, we'll have to make something up. His name -- we have decided -- is Skelly. Now, someone <em>please</em> tell us when we can buy this game.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/20/castle-crashers-scares-up-a-skeleton/">Castle Crashers scares up a skeleton</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 20 Jun 2008 16:00:00 EST. It's like in that movie <em>The Last Samurai</em> <a href="http://youtube.com/watch?v=op62w1l3cyc">when all the ninjas attacked</a>. It was like, "Whoa, ninjas! This movie just got even awesomer!" Imagine that feeling, only applied to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/castle-crashers"><em>Castle Crashers</em></a>. See, it feels awesome, righ?. The game was already cool and now it has a ninja and is even cooler (and by cool <a href="http://www.realultimatepower.net/index4.htm">we mean totally sweet</a>). If you thought it couldn't get any better than that, then get this: the ninja carries ... a mug. Not just any mug ... a <em>Ninja Mug</em>. We're not quite sure how it works, but according to the <a href="http://devblog.thebehemoth.com/?p=207"><em>Castle Crashers</em> website</a>, its purpose is "defensive shielding."<br /><br />It's official now: the wait for <em>Castle Crashers</em> is killing us. We love the Xbox Live Arcade Service (<strong>fanboy placation</strong>: we love the PlayStation Network and WiiWare too), but it's a well-known fact that <a href="http://www.gamesetwatch.com/2007/08/xbla_certification_jeff_minter.php">there are a number of hurdles a finished game has to clear</a> before it can find its way onto the imponderable <em>internets</em>. One of said hurdles, labeled "the rating process" is actually three-hundred feet tall, covered in flaming, poison-coated spikes, and surrounded by a moat filled with bull sharks in mating season. Metaphorically speaking, of course.<br /><br />Thankfully, in an act of incredible vaulting prowess, Behemoth's upcoming <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/10/20/castle-crashers-is-racist-claims-strange-interpretation/"><strike>racist</strike></a> multiplayer beat-'em-up <a href="http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/2008/06/15/castle-crashers-isnt-only-done-but-now-its-rated/"><em>Castle Crashers</em> recently cleared said hurdle</a>, receiving a decisive "Teen" rating (the German judges, obviously confused and unimpressed, gave the effort a 7.5). There are a number of other hoops <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=castle+crashers&amp;x=0&amp;y=0">the adorable brawler</a> must jump through before attaining that coveted XBLA certification, but we're hopeful that we'll be storming cartoon strongholds relatively soon.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/15/castle-crashers-jumps-through-another-hoop-gets-rated-teen/">Castle Crashers jumps through another hoop, gets rated 'Teen'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 15 Jun 2008 15:30:00 EST. Everything (well, almost, we'll get to that later) about the experience was positive, interesting, and fun. The booth was hidden behind the Ubisoft one, and was encircled by folding tables covered in drawings. As with many artists who are convention exhibitors, the guys from <a href="http://www.thebehemoth.com/">The Behemoth</a> passed the time by doodling, and (for the first time for these guys) allowing other people to doodle there too. Though the staff in the booth was constantly changing and there was a general commotion around where people were drawing, we were still able to get some good information and impressions. We were able to talk with one of the creators of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/castle-crashers/"><em>Castle Crashers</em></a>, as well as the original hit, <em>Alien Hominid. </em>We were able to play through the demo several times in a few different levels, and we got to see the reaction from the surrounding crowd, most of whom had never heard of the game before seeing it there. <br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/wondercon08castlecrashers/">WonderCon08CastleCrashers</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/wondercon08castlecrashers/#660273"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/xbox.joystiq.com/media/2008/02/cc08_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/wondercon08castlecrashers/#660272"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/xbox.joystiq.com/media/2008/02/cc01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/wondercon08castlecrashers/#660271"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/xbox.joystiq.com/media/2008/02/cc02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/wondercon08castlecrashers/#660270"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/xbox.joystiq.com/media/2008/02/cc03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/wondercon08castlecrashers/#660269"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/xbox.joystiq.com/media/2008/02/cc05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/25/x3f-wondercon-castle-crashers-hands-on/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>X3F @ WonderCon: Castle Crashers Hands-on</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/25/x3f-wondercon-castle-crashers-hands-on/">X3F @ WonderCon: Castle Crashers Hands-on</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 25 Feb 2008 09:30:00 EST.
