Billboard ranked it in the #50 spot for its Billboard 200, which is the highest a video game soundtrack has ever reached on the charts.<br /><br />Davidge's score sold 9,000 copies in its first week and Billboard <a href="http://www.billboard.biz/bbbiz/industry/record-labels/chart-moves-halo-4-sets-record-as-highest-1007995642.story">says</a> it outperformed all the series' predecessors in the Top Soundtracks category. That includes the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/halo-reach"><em>Halo: Reach</em></a> soundtrack, which made it to number eight back in 2010. The official <em>Halo 4</em> soundtrack reached third in Top Soundtracks.<br /><br />The <em>Halo 2</em> soundtrack still has a record over <em>Halo 4</em>'s score, however. It managed to move more than 9,000 albums during its second week on shelves. The previous record holder for top video game soundtrack on the Billboard 200 was the soundtrack to <em>Guitar Hero 3: Legends of Rock</em> at 107. Yup, the honor goes to an album of a video game in which you play along to that album.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/11/01/billboard-halo-4-highest-charting-game-soundtrack-yet/">Billboard: Halo 4 highest-charting game soundtrack yet</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 01 Nov 2012 21:30:00 EST. One <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/dota-2"><em>Dota 2</em></a> fan wanted to win a beta key in a big way in Valve's recent <a href="http://www.playdota.com/news/win-your-own-dota-2-beta-key">photo contest</a> -- like, <em>really </em>big. The rules stipulated entrants submit a photograph of themselves "holding a sign that reads 'Dota 2' and your 'PlayDotA.com Username' in any creative fashion," and that the image had to be larger than 600x400 px. So Steven Addison put his image on a billboard, because that's what sane people do to get beta keys.<br />
<br />
Placing an ad on an electronic billboard in Addison's neighborhood normally costs $3,000. Addison and his friend wanted to use the billboard in a student film as well, and after Addison explained their situation, a kind Clear Channel man offered him a small amount of air time for free. We're very happy to hear that, because compared to the <a href="http://www.playdota.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=49865&amp;d=1316562310">other submissions</a>, even $20 seems like too much to have invested in this contest.<br />
<br />

You know what? Driving around is <em>boring</em>. Luckily, some Germans are taking steps to amp up the experience by incorporating <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/doom">Doom</a> </em>graphics into billboard ads, effectively upping their cool factor exponentially. Check out <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/31192713@N03/sets/72157622828179733/">this Flickr set</a> and tell us these billboards are anything but <em>completely awesome</em>. We dare you!<br />
<br />
Hopefully, this is the beginning of a trend that will cross the oceans of the world and spread throughout every major city, causing us to actually <em>care</em> about these outdoor advertising eyesores. In the spirit of international sharing, we've got a couple ideas of our own you can check out past the break.<br />

A keen-eyed NeoGAF user by the name of goldsoundz <a href="http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?p=17980233">noticed a startling billboard</a> in his home town of Shreveport, Louisiana -- splayed out on the massive overhead placard is the logo for the heretofore unannounced next installment in Insomniac Games' PS3 shooter franchise, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/resistance"><em>Resistance 3</em></a>. Goldsoundz explained that Shreveport is a popular spot for film shoots, and that the ad was to be incorporated in a film titled <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1217613/"><em>Battle: Los Angeles</em></a>, which is due out in early 2011.<br />
<br />
By that timeline, it makes sense that Insomniac could slap another game together by the film's theatrical debut -- still, seeing <em>gargantuan</em> promotions for a game that hasn't been formally announced (or discussed) is a bit surprising. Certainly more surprising than a potential announcement for <em>Resistance 3</em>, because, <em>come on</em>, of <em>course</em> there's gonna be a <em>Resistance 3</em>.<br />

For a site that writes about all things video games, we've written an awful lot about <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/pearl-jam">Pearl Jam</a> over the last couple of years. In fairness, Pearl Jam has been making a lot of noise on the rhythm game front, releasing <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/20/rock-band-weekly-pearl-jams-ten-album/">an entire album as DLC</a> for <em>Rock Band 2</em>, eliciting responses from their community on a future "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/11/pearl-jam-returns-in-new-rock-band-project-with-fan-voted-set/"><em>Rock Band</em> project</a>," and now, announcing that their next album is dropping day and date at retail as well as DLC for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/rock-band-2"><em>Rock Band 2</em></a>. <br /> <br /> <a href="http://www.billboard.com/#/features/pearl-jam-back-to-the-future-1003999243.story?page=3">Billboard</a> spoke with the band and confirmed that their next album, titled "Backspacer," will be "available on <em>Rock Band</em> the day it comes out." Additionally, Target will be getting its own version of the album that will come with a code to download various PJ songs in <em>Rock Band</em> -- a tactic that the group's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/04/rock-band-dlc-to-be-bundled-with-re-release-of-pearl-jams-ten/">employed in the past</a>. "Backspacer" hits stores and XBLM/PSN on September 20.<br /> <br /> [Via <a href="http://www.vg247.com/2009/08/01/pearl-jams-backspacer-to-land-on-rock-band-day-of-debut/">VG247</a>]<br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/02/pearl-jams-next-album-simulatenously-arrives-at-retail-in-rock/">Pearl Jam's next album simultaneously arrives at retail, in Rock Band 2</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 02 Aug 2009 13:30:00 EST. For many visitors of New York's Houston St., the giant PSP has been a landmark for years. The billboard-sized PSP ran videos of the newest and best PSP games (when it worked). However, it looks like it's finally being taken down. Perhaps Sony's going to put a giant PSP-3000 system up there, which will be slimmer than the original giant PSP-1000. But ... that seems unlikely.<br /><br /><strong>Update:</strong> Guess what? It is getting a 3000 series upgrade! According to SCEA's Al de Leon, the PSP billboard will be getting a new and improved screen -- just like the PSP-3000. (Let's hope this doesn't have the scanline issue.)<br /><br />[Thanks, Mark B.!]<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/billboard-psp-deconstructed/">Billboard PSP deconstructed</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/billboard-psp-deconstructed/#1194732"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/playstation.joystiq.com/media/2008/12/img_4197_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/billboard-psp-deconstructed/#1194731"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/playstation.joystiq.com/media/2008/12/img_4195_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/billboard-psp-deconstructed/#1194730"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/playstation.joystiq.com/media/2008/12/img_4193_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/01/end-of-an-era-giant-nyc-psp-taken-down/">Giant NYC PSP taken down, to be upgraded with new screen [Update]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 01 Dec 2008 10:50:00 EST.
