If you're planning your Black Friday around time-sensitive deals popping up at Amazon today, you can find the full schedule over at <a href="http://thriftynerd.com/2011/11/amazon-lightning-deals-for-black-friday-are-here/">Thrifty Nerd</a>. Some of the list is guesswork, but all the deals look pretty reasonable to us ... that is, except for for<span style="font-style: italic;"> Rayman Origins</span> which you should feel guilty about buying that cheaply.<br />
<br />
Any in particular you're looking to grab?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/25/full-list-of-amazon-black-friday-lightning-deals-now-with-times/">Full list of Amazon Black Friday Lightning Deals (now with times!)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 25 Nov 2011 12:15:00 EST. 	<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/25/xbox-live-black-friday-goes-all-day-doesnt-have-stock-limitati/"><img alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/10/fallout3dlc530pxheaderimg223.jpg" style="width: 530px; height: 299px; " /></a></div>
We'll admit it -- the Xbox Live Black Friday deals aren't exactly as thrilling as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/21/psn-fall-sale-save-on-limbo-outland-clash-of-heroes-hd-and-m/">the competition's</a> are, but there are still some big savings to be had. Take, for instance, the massively discounted <em>Marvel vs Capcom 2</em> for just 320 MS Points ($4!), or <em>Fallout 3</em>'s Games on Demand release -- <em>sans DLC</em> -- at 25 percent off (pricing varies by region -- $22.49 in the US). Those are both pretty solid deals!<br />
<br />
Microsoft's Major Nelson also promises more deals this coming "Cyber" Monday, so if today's offers aren't as exciting as you'd hoped, there'll be even more in the coming days. Oh, and there's always the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/23/microsoft-discounts-super-meat-boy-other-content-across-its-pla/">week-long XBL sale</a> that Microsoft is running -- <em>Super Meat Boy</em> is still only $5 and still <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/06/super-meat-boy-review/#review">really great</a>!<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/25/xbox-live-black-friday-goes-all-day-doesnt-have-stock-limitati/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Xbox Live Black Friday goes all day, doesn't have stock limitations</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/25/xbox-live-black-friday-goes-all-day-doesnt-have-stock-limitati/">Xbox Live Black Friday goes all day, doesn't have stock limitations</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 25 Nov 2011 11:44:00 EST. If waking up at 5am in the morning this Friday to grab some of those deals on video games at Gamestop doesn't sound like your idea of a good time, then good news times two: One, you're completely sane. Second, GameStop is <a href="http://phx.corporate-ir.net/phoenix.zhtml?c=130125&amp;p=irol-newsArticle&amp;ID=1633176&amp;highlight=">actually opening at 12:01am</a> on Thanksgiving night/Friday morning, so if you can wake yourself out of your turkey coma to go and buy some games, you can get all your shopping done before the moon even comes out.<br />
<br />
Best Buy is also <a href="http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Misc/Black-Friday-Cyber-Monday/pcmcat225600050002.c?id=pcmcat225600050002">opening up at 12am</a> on Friday morning for its doorbuster sale, as is Target, <a href="http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-500202_162-57329361/target-defends-black-friday-hours-amid-protest/">despite some protests from employees</a> and their families. Toys R Us is the real kicker, though: Its sales <a href="http://bfads.net/Ad/Toys-R-Us-2011">are starting at 9pm</a> on Thursday night, hardly enough time for the football games to even finish before the holiday sales begin.<br />
<br />
You can see all of the available deals on video games, online and offline, in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/18/black-friday-2011-video-game-deals/">our big, bad Black Friday deals</a> post for this year. If you do head out to buy some items right away at midnight, maybe offer to buy the employees you see there some doughnuts or coffee -- if they're out there all night, they'll probably need it.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/23/retailers-opening-up-at-midnight-or-even-earlier-for-black-fri/">Retailers opening up at midnight (or even earlier) for Black Friday</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 23 Nov 2011 00:00:00 EST. Whether you're looking to jump into the Sony waters or, like, the most generous gift-giver in existence, you may want to check out <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html/ref=tsm_1_tw_s_vg_lv0tia?ie=UTF8&amp;docId=1000750051">Amazon's hefty PS3 bundle</a>. Along with a 160GB PS3 console and copy of <em>Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows: Part 2</em> on Blu-ray (you know, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/15/say-hallow-to-the-new-harry-potter-ps3-bundle/">Sony's latest console bundle</a>), there's also a copy of <em>Resistance 3 </em>included, plus a media remote and a PS3 New Owner's Kit, which includes an additional controller, USB charge cable and a HDMI cable for the high-defs.<br />
<br />
All of this will set you (or somebody who likes you a whole lot) back a sum of $370. To get the bundle, you'll have to head on over to Amazon and manually add the additional items to the PS3 system bundle pictured above. A bundle within a bundle! What will they think of next?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/21/amazon-offers-its-own-ps3-holiday-bundle/">Amazon offers its own PS3 holiday bundle</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 21 Nov 2011 21:00:00 EST. Sick and tired of your neighbor Steve Grabowski always showing off with his fancy <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/pac-man-championship-edition"><em>Pac-Man Championship Edition</em></a> on iPhone? First and foremost, tell Grabowski to <em>shove it</em>, but more importantly, know that you'll soon be able to afford your very own copy. Namco's Thanksgiving Week <em>slash</em> Black Friday <em>slash</em> Cyber Monday iOS sales are offering dramatically discounted versions of excellent games like <em>Pac-Man CE</em> and <em>Galaga Remix</em>, and the deals kick off at 12AM PST today ... so they're <em>totally live right now</em>.<br />
<br />
Said deals shall stay that way through November 28, just before midnight PST. At very least, the discounted wares should give you a brief reprieve from that jerk neighbor.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/21/namco-bandai-discounting-ios-stable-for-thanksgiving-black-frid/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Namco Bandai discounting iOS stable for Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and Cyber Monday (but not Super Tuesday)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/21/namco-bandai-discounting-ios-stable-for-thanksgiving-black-frid/">Namco Bandai discounting iOS stable for Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and Cyber Monday (but not Super Tuesday)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 21 Nov 2011 18:30:00 EST. When you're making the obligatory "things I'm thankful for" speech around the table this Thanksgiving, you may silently include Sony among the honorees. From tomorrow through November 28, the publisher is holding a Fall Sale on PSN that drops some recent releases into temptingly affordable territory.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://joystiq.com/game/limbo"><em>Limbo</em></a> will be $10.49 (just $7.34 for PS Plus members) during the sale; the lovely <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/outland"><em>Outland</em></a> is down to $6.99 ($4.89 for Plus); and <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/might-and-magic-clash-of-heroes-hd"><em>Might &amp; Magic Clash of Heroes HD</em></a> drops to just $10.49 ($7.34 for Plus). Find the full list after the break, and don't actually thank Sony out loud when you're at the dinner table. Your relatives already think you're weird enough.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/21/psn-fall-sale-save-on-limbo-outland-clash-of-heroes-hd-and-m/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>PSN fall sale: save on Limbo, Outland, Clash of Heroes HD, and more</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/21/psn-fall-sale-save-on-limbo-outland-clash-of-heroes-hd-and-m/">PSN fall sale: save on Limbo, Outland, Clash of Heroes HD, and more</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 21 Nov 2011 16:30:00 EST. Amazon's PC digital distribution service is rolling out its Black Friday deals now, with a minimum of 50 percent off many of the year's hottest titles. There are also massive discounts on titles from last year, like <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html/ref=amb_link_358884282_4?ie=UTF8&amp;docId=1000716161&amp;pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&amp;pf_rd_s=right-1&amp;pf_rd_r=1TMV0ZJ0Y9YGT23JS27J&amp;pf_rd_t=1401&amp;pf_rd_p=1331983222&amp;pf_rd_i=1000746611">Mass Effect 2 for $5</a>.<br />
<br />
Recently released titles <em>Dungeon Defenders</em> and <em>Might &amp; Magic: Heroes 6</em> are 50 percent off, at $7.50 and $27.50, respectively.<br />
<br />
Other great deals include <em>The Witcher 2</em> for $16 (-60%), <em>Amnesia</em> for $5 (-75%) and <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/game/tropico-4">Tropico 4</a></em> for $20 (-50%). For those looking for an excuse not to venture near any malls this weekend, Amazon has plenty of discounted titles to keep one busy.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/21/black-friday-pc-deals-kick-off-today-on-amazon/">Black Friday PC deals kick off today on Amazon</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 21 Nov 2011 13:10:00 EST. Black Friday is already looking pretty crazy this year, and Gamestop won't be doing anything to reduce the amount of consumerist insanity permeating the American consciousness. If anything, the fact that its <a href="http://blackfriday.gottadeal.com/BlackFridayScans/GameStop/scans.php?id=GameStop">sales flier</a> proudly boasts that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/08/europes-zelda-ocarina-of-time-3ds-is-a-magical-artifact/">limited edition Zelda 3DS</a> on its front cover indicates a clear and unmistakable aim to misbehave, in a metaphorical, capitalist sense.<br />
<br />
We'll save you the headache of an unwieldy bulleted list by telling you that the long and short of the sale is <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/12/best-buy-black-friday-revelations-for-35-batman-gears-3-bf3/">widely similar</a> to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/12/toys-r-us-black-friday-deals-include-5-games-discounted-syst/">other retail</a> offerings: Discounted 360s and PS3s ($149 and $199 respectively), recent titles discounted by $10 to $30, etc. Check out the <a href="http://blackfriday.gottadeal.com/BlackFridayScans/GameStop/scans.php?id=GameStop">12 page flier</a> for complete details, and when you're tempted by these impressive discounts, remember how small and innavigable the average Gamestop is on a normal day, let alone on the busiest shopping day of the year. <p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/12/gamestops-black-friday-deals-are-about-what-youd-expect-still/">Gamestop's Black Friday deals are about what you'd expect, still bonkers</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 12 Nov 2011 22:30:00 EST. Look, if you're planning on camping out at a nearby GameStop to be the first in the door for all <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/20/brace-your-wallets-gamestops-black-friday-catalog-released/">the savory deals</a> therein, then you're already a certifiable madman. There's nothing you can do about that -- however, you can become a <em>well-prepared</em> certifiable madman if you take a few moments to check out the retailer's official site. An update to the GameStop <a href="http://www.gamestop.com/gs/landing/black-friday/">Black Friday splash page</a> has added an interactive map showing which of its brick-and-mortar locations will be opening right at midnight this coming Friday, November 26.<br />
<br />
Don't worry, if your nearest store isn't one of the 800-odd locations included on the map, then your friendly neighborhood game store will fling wide its doors at 5 a.m. instead. That's still crazy enough, isn't it?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/24/gamestop-lists-locations-opening-at-midnight-on-black-friday/">GameStop lists locations opening at midnight on Black Friday</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 24 Nov 2010 14:00:00 EST. Okay, gang. We've seen what the other, non-video game-oriented retailers <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/19/black-friday-2010-video-game-deals/">will have to offer</a> next week during the holiday shopocalypse known as Black Friday -- now let's see what the <em>big dog</em> has to show. GameStop's catalog of doorbusters and all-day deals recently <a href="http://www.blackfriday.info/sales/gamestop-black-friday-ad.html">arrived online</a>, detailing the post-Thanksgiving bundles, discounts and freebies being offered by the ludological retailer.<br />
<br />
There's a lot to soak in, but here's some highlights. Check out a scan of GameStop's full list of offers in the gallery below!<br />

Most of the retailers' <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/black-friday-2010">Black Friday catalogs</a> we've seen thus far have begun to blend together, as almost all seem to be offering the same selection of holiday hardware bundles with various perks and bonuses. Walmart's <a href="http://www.blackfriday.info/sales/walmart-black-friday-ad.html">recently released list</a> of doorbusters and deals follows suit, including its own takes on the <em>New Super Mario Bros.</em> Wii Bundle (which includes an extra Wii Remote Plus and 'chuck) for $250 and the 160GB <em>Uncharted 2</em> PS3 bundle (which also includes a limited edition <em>Medal of Honor</em>) for $300.<br />
<br />
However! Walmart is also marking down a metric ton of games to $10 or less, including <em>inFamous</em>, the <em>God of War Collection</em>, <em>Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare</em>, <em>Red Steel 2</em> and a whole lot more. A few more recent titles will be discounted to $29, and, finally, all of the store's DS Lites will be marked down to $89. Check out more details about these offers (and more!) after the jump!<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/16/walmart-black-friday-ad-includes-holiday-bundles-games-under-1/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Walmart Black Friday ad includes holiday bundles, games under $10</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/16/walmart-black-friday-ad-includes-holiday-bundles-games-under-1/">Walmart Black Friday ad includes holiday bundles, games under $10</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 16 Nov 2010 01:00:00 EST. We're impressed by some of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/black-friday-2010">already announced Black Friday deals</a>, but not a single one compares to the bounty of enormous discounts offered by Kmart (which is <em>totally different</em> from <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0106308/quotes">S-Mart</a>). Brand new games like <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/fable-iii">Fable 3</a></em> and <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/assassins-creed-brotherhood">Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood</a></em> are going for $40, while game of the year contender <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/mass-effect-2">Mass Effect 2</a></em> can be found for just $10. <br />
<br />
The deals apply to Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Nintendo Wii (<em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/nba-jam">NBA Jam</a></em> for $30, anyone?), and PSP. And yes, before you go quickly clicking through <a href="http://showtimeforfree.com/index.php?topic=3238.0">the list of games</a> (highlights after the break!) to see all the discounts, be aware that <em>Madagascar Kartz</em> (still <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/12/activision-announces-madagascar-kartz-misses-crucial-naming-opp/">Madagaskartz</a></em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/12/activision-announces-madagascar-kartz-misses-crucial-naming-opp/"> in our hearts</a>) is on sale for $10. We know what you're getting in your stockings this year!<br />

But sometimes, the little ones' wish lists trump your own and ... <em>Toy R Us it is!</em><br />
<br />
Lucky for you, there are at least a few Black Friday video game sales that you might reach for as you race up and down the aisles in search of <em>that last</em> Little Mommy All-in-1 Nursery set -- just $40 while supplies last!<br />
<br />
Past the break, we've highlighted a few of the (game) deals that popped out at us from the <a href="http://bfads.net/Ad/Toys-R-Us-2010">ad scan</a>. Spot anything else?<br />

Meijer might not be quite as world renowned for its video game sales as a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/10/black-friday-psp-holiday-bundle-130-at-radioshack/">RadioShack</a> or <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/05/rumor-sears-black-friday-ad-reveals-green-and-red-dsis-new-psp/">Sears</a> -- but this Black Friday, it'll be a major contender for your early holiday shopping bucks. The retailer recently <a href="http://www.blackfriday.info/sales/meijer-black-friday-ad.html">released its catalogue</a> of post-Thanksgiving doorbusters and sales on video game hardware bundles and software alike.<br />
<br />
The highlights of the list are the limited holiday bundles of the Wii, PS3, PSP and DSi we've seen from other retailers -- however, at Meijer, each of these bundles includes a gift card which can be used to purchase another game right away. Check out the full list after the jump to see exactly what comes in these bundles, as well as what other deals Meijer is offering on November 26.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/12/meijer-black-friday-ad-revealed-offering-gift-cards-with-holida/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Meijer Black Friday ad revealed, offering gift cards with holiday hardware bundles</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/12/meijer-black-friday-ad-revealed-offering-gift-cards-with-holida/">Meijer Black Friday ad revealed, offering gift cards with holiday hardware bundles</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 12 Nov 2010 20:00:00 EST. The week following Christmas is set to be the biggest ever in terms of iPhone gaming activity according to iPhone fan network PlayHaven and mobile ad exchange Mobclix. It makes sense: You've got a boatload of people with new iPhones and no sense of how to distinguish the bad games from the good. It's like a bunch of infants crawling around with loaded revolvers.<br />
<br />
In a <a href="http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/record-iphone-game-downloads-usage-predicted-in-post-holiday-week-80169637.html">recent release</a>, PlayHaven CEO Raymond Lau said "The week between Christmas and New Years has become the great 'Game Rush' for iPhone games - essentially what Black Friday is to brick and mortar retailers." The only real difference? A significant decrease in your odds of getting trampled by sleepy fat people.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/28/post-christmas-like-black-friday-for-iphone-devs/">Post-Christmas like Black Friday for iPhone devs</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 28 Dec 2009 15:00:00 EST. While Greenberg doesn't disclose specific numbers, he notes in a <a href="http://twitter.com/aarongreenberg/status/6218664939">recent tweet</a> that Black Friday granted the Xbox 360 its "biggest sales week of the year," with Microsoft selling over twice as many units than the previous week. That certainly <em>sounds</em> like a lot, though the average weekly sales in October -- <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/12/october-npd-uncharted-2-takes-top-spot-while-hardware-sales-slo/">based on NPD figures</a> -- were slightly above 60,000 units.<br />
<br />
Assuming November's weekly average was similar, Microsoft certainly didn't come close to topping <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/01/sony-thanks-440-000-customers-for-giving-them-money/">Sony's impressive Black Friday total</a> of 440,000 PS3 consoles. And let's not forget <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/30/nintendo-gives-thanks-for-plenty-of-holiday-week-hardware-sales/">Nintendo's Black Friday success</a>: 550,000 Wii consoles and DS / DSi sales in excess of <em>one million</em> units. Rest assured we will break down the exact November numbers once the NPDs shake out later this month.<br />

"The Anatomy of Black Friday 2009" is based on a survey of 1,700 shoppers about their Black Friday shopping activities. <em>Why</em>, exactly, did shoppers wake up at ridiculous times and stand out in the cold just for the privilege of being crammed into Best Buy or wherever like sardines? For 35% of Black Friday shoppers, it was a specific item. "I saw an item I wanted advertised on sale" was the top response, followed by "I was just curious to see what was out there."<br />
<br />
The top reason for <em>not</em> subjecting themselves to the crowds and queues to buy anything on Black Friday? No, it wasn't "I'm not crazy," it was "no money."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/01/npd-discovers-why-people-braved-the-black-friday-crowds/">NPD discovers why people braved the Black Friday crowds</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 01 Dec 2009 01:00:00 EST. Just a few hours after Nintendo, Sony has prepared a Black Friday sales statement of its own. SCEA's Patrick Seybold wrote in a press release: "PlayStation 3 demand was at an all time high with the system selling more than 440,000 units for the week ending 11/29/09." While shy of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/30/nintendo-gives-thanks-for-plenty-of-holiday-week-hardware-sales/">Wii's numbers</a>, the figure is quite impressive, considering that's more than the number of systems sold in the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/12/october-npd-uncharted-2-takes-top-spot-while-hardware-sales-slo/">entire month of October</a> -- the same month that the PS3-exclusive <em>Uncharted 2</em> came out.<br />
<br />
Retailers offered a number of <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2009/11/walk-off-your-turkey-dinner-with-black-friday-shopping/">PS3 bundles</a> during the holiday weekend, adding a number of free games and movies to the system's standard $299 price tag. That, coupled with an ad campaign that totally <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/it-only-does-everything">doesn't creep us out</a>, certainly helped Sony's fortunes this year.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/01/sony-thanks-440-000-customers-for-giving-them-money/">Sony thanks 440,000 customers for giving it money during Black Friday week</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 01 Dec 2009 00:01:00 EST. To quote the immortal words of the <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x5YinC46RZU">musical revolutionaries known as Widelife</a>, "all things just keep getting better!" For the purpose of this post, "all things" include <a href="http://store.steampowered.com/early-holiday">Steam's post-Thanksgiving deals</a>, which seem to have hit critical value mass today. <em>Resident Evil 5</em> for $24.99? <em>Borderlands</em> for $33.49? <em>Ghostbusters</em> for $9.99? <em>Left 4 Dead: Game of the Year Edition</em> for $7.49? <em>Daddy like</em>.<br />
<br />
Once again, if you don't like the games which have had their prices temporarily torn in twain, tune in tomorrow at 8:00 a.m. PST for the next batch of deals.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/28/steam-deals-day-three-resident-evil-5-left-4-dead-borderlands/">Steam Deals Day Three: Resident Evil 5, Left 4 Dead, Borderlands on sale</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 28 Nov 2009 12:30:00 EST. The second day of Steam's five-day-long "<a href="http://store.steampowered.com/early-holiday">Early Holiday Sale</a>" has arrived, bringing with it another batch of wallet-friendly prices on a few excellent titles. The highlight from today's offers is, of course, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/left-4-dead-2"><em>Left 4 Dead 2</em></a>, which you can now purchase for just $37.49.<br /> <br /> A few older titles have also undergone a bit of cost reduction surgery, including <em>Dead Space</em>, which is $14.99 for today only, and <em>Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic</em>, which is just $2.49. None of these float your boat? Swing back by tomorrow at 8:00 a.m. PST for the next round of cheapenings. <br /> <hr width="100%" size="2" /> <style type="text/css"> .nounderline a { text-decoration: none; } </style>

EA's online store is running <a href="http://eastore.ea.com/DRHM/servlet/ControllerServlet?Action=DisplayCategoryProductListPage&amp;SiteID=ea&amp;Locale=en_US&amp;CallingPageID=CategoryProductListPage&amp;Env=BASE&amp;itemIdx=0&amp;categoryID=8831900&amp;childCategoryID=8831900">an exciting Black Friday sale</a>, with downloadable PC games getting 30 percent off from now until Monday. We're talking about discounts on a bunch of games here, with standouts such as <em>Burnout Paradise The Ultimate Box</em> for a cool $21 and <em>Mass Effect </em>for a very reasonable $14. <br />
<br />
Not everything is on sale, however -- some of the newer titles like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/left-4-dead-2"><em>Left 4 Dead 2</em></a> and the <em>Dragon Age Collector's Edition </em>don't qualify (though the regular version of the latter is on sale for $35). If you're determined to get good deals on some of these newer games, we have <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/25/black-friday-video-game-deals-hub/">a feeling</a> you'll be able to find 'em somewhere.<br />

After reviewing <a href="http://store.steampowered.com/early-holiday">Steam's Black Friday offerings</a>, we can't help but find the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/25/black-friday-video-game-deals-hub/#top">post-Thanksgiving sales</a> offered by other retailers <em>kind</em> of adorable. Aww, you're knocking $10 off the price of <em>Red Faction: Guerrilla</em>? That's cute. Steam is selling that game, and <em>almost every other game by THQ</em> in <a href="http://store.steampowered.com/sub/2539/">an enormous, $49.99 bundle</a>. You've got a buy-one-get-one-free deal on LucasArts adventure games? <em>How quaint</em>. Steam is selling <em>like, every LucasArts PC game ever</em> in yet <a href="http://store.steampowered.com/sub/2532/">another $49.99 bundle</a>.<br /> <br /> On top of those two <em>preposterous</em> offers, Steam will be <a href="http://store.steampowered.com/early-holiday">slashing prices on a handful of games</a> every day for the next five days. Today's sales include <em>Batman: Arkham Asylum</em> for $24.99, <em>Far Cry 2 Fortune's Edition</em> for $9.99 and <em>Dragon Age: Origins</em> for $37.49. In short, you should spend as much time downloading things from Steam as you possibly can this weekend -- with prices like these, we're guessing they'll be filing for bankruptcy some time before Christmas.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/26/steams-black-friday-deals-will-probably-put-it-out-of-business/">Steam's Black Friday deals will probably put it out of business</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 26 Nov 2009 09:05:00 EST. <br />
We wish it didn't have to be like this. <em>But it is</em>. Gorged, bloated and possessed by the lure of <em>unbeatable savings</em><em>, </em>you will scratch and claw your way through masses of equally frenzied shoppers. There, in the dim light of dawn, you will forsake all that was sacred of the Thanksgiving, and <em>take what's yours</em> -- for an awfully good price. So then, let us be your guide.<br />
<br />
We've scoured the Black Friday circulars of nationwide retailers and singled out the video game deals in the guides below. Just click on a retailer to view:<br />

We hope you've been putting off purchasing that that new fleece jacket you've had your eye on, because Old Navy will be running one hell of a video game deal this coming Black Friday. As suggested by a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/05/possible-free-lego-rock-band-with-20-old-navy-purchase-on-black/">supposedly leaked circular earlier this month</a>, anyone who spends $20 on the store's merchandise will receive <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/lego-rock-band"><em>Lego Rock Band</em></a> for free on the platform of their choice. <br />
<br />
The rumored deal was recently confirmed by a television spot (which unfortunately has yet to find its way online). We contacted a handful of locations in Texas, Ohio and Illinois, all of which said the offer would be valid at their stores. However, both the advertisement and the store representatives we spoke to mentioned that copies of the game will be "extremely limited," so we suggest getting to your nearest store as close to its 3 a.m. opening time as your tryptophan-infused body will permit.<br />

A list of purported <a href="http://gamerdeals.net/blogs/weekday-deals/archive/2009/11/15/toysrus-black-friday-ad-leaked.aspx">Black Friday game deals</a> for Toys R Us has shown up online, with a few temporary price drops that may justify a late night or early morning trip to TRU on November 27.<br />
<br />
Most of the great deals are "5AM Doorbusters," which means that if you have yet to pick up <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/halo-3-odst">Halo 3: ODST</a></em>, <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/need-for-speed-shift">Need for Speed Shift</a></em>, or <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/forza-motorsport-3">Forza 3</a></em>, they'll all be $34.99 ... at 5AM. Good luck! Also marked down at that obscenely early hour: <em>Dead Space Extraction</em>, which most of you <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/21/npd-dead-space-extraction-sold-9-000-copies-in-september/">have yet to pick up</a>. It'll be just $24.99. Whether any of that is worth getting up at ridiculous o'clock to fight each other over is <em>your call</em>. See the full list of deals <a href="http://gamerdeals.net/blogs/weekday-deals/archive/2009/11/15/toysrus-black-friday-ad-leaked.aspx">here</a>.<br />

According to <a href="http://www.gearlive.com/news/article/q409-black-friday-2009-best-buy-ad/">Gear Live</a>, Best Buy's <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/black-friday">Black Friday 2009</a> ad circular has been leaked, and all the deals have been revealed. Gamers have quite a bit to look forward to, specifically some decent hardware bundles and heavily discounted games. The console deals include a PS3 with <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/ratchet-and-clank-future-a-crack-in-time"><em>Ratchet &amp; Clank Future: A Crack in Time</em></a> and <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/littlebigplanet"><em>LittleBigPlanet</em> <em>Game of the Year Edition</em></a> for $299, as well as a 120GB Xbox 360 Elite bundle with four (thus far unidentified) games for $299. Also up for grabs will be <em>Brain Age</em> or <em>Mario</em> DSi bundles for $169.99 with a free $20 gift card.<br />
<br />
Several recent Xbox 360 and PS3 releases will be on sale for $34.99, including <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/brutal-legend"><em>Br&uuml;tal Legend</em></a>, <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/left-4-dead-2"><em>Left 4 Dead 2</em></a>, <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/dragon-age"><em>Dragon Age</em></a>. Many older titles will be $20 or less. Meanwhile, several Wii titles will be reduced to $14.99, while certain DS titles will drop to $9.99 or less. Hit the source link for the full (and still rumored) set of deals. We've contacted Best Buy to verify the ad.<br />
<br />
<strong>Update:</strong> Best Buy has responded to Joystiq about the ad, saying, "As a matter of company policy, Best Buy does not comment on rumor and speculation and so we are unable to confirm if our Black Friday insert has leaked."<br />

<em>And there it is</em>. The first shot across the bow. The first salvo of sweet - yet brief! - holiday sales offers. The first indication that, yes, the day after Thanksgiving is going to be Hell for retailers once more. Behold: The video game-related Black Friday sales selections <a href="http://gamerdeals.net/blogs/misc-cheap-deals/archive/2009/11/03/black-friday-2009.aspx">of Kmart and Sears</a>, which we've posted after the jump. Please avoid trampling one another as you make your way down there.<br />
<br />
Here's a few big ticket items: Kmart's offering a free copy of <em>Halo 3: ODST</em> with the purchase of every Xbox 360 Elite, and both stores are cutting prices on a <em>ton</em> of big-ticket games (<em>L4D2</em>, <em>Dragon Age</em>, <em>Brutal Legend</em>) by $20. November 27 is going to be a long, long day, friends.<br />

Black Friday isn't the only day in November where prices are eviscerated and <em>sweet deals</em> are distributed like confetti at a Flaming Lips concert. <a href="http://www.walmart.com/catalog/catalog.gsp?cat=648061&amp;povid=cat14503-env172199-module110409-lLinkSP1">Wal-Mart has begun posting ads</a> for a batch of sales being offered this coming Saturday morning -- one of which will be particularly intriguing to the prospective holiday console buyers among you. While supplies last (and we assume they won't last long), anyone who purchases a $199 Xbox 360 Arcade bundle will receive a $100 gift card to boot.<br />
<br />
A free Benjamin's worth of Wal-Mart products? That's enough to buy a couple of games for your new system! And it's only $35 short of the price of <a href="http://www.walmart.com/120Gb-Xbox-360-Hard-Drive/ip/5751091">an Xbox 360 120GB hard drive</a>! Or, you could buy <em>two</em> Xbox 360 Arcade bundles, and then have enough in gift card money to get a third one -- plus <em>another</em> $100 gift card -- for free! It seems we've beaten the system, as it were. Wal-Mart, consider yourself <em>outfoxed</em>.<br />

Then in November, Nintendo sold 2.04 million Wii systems. No, wait, that's not right -- it needs italics, bolding, and underlining.<br />
<br />
<u><em><strong>2.04 million Wiis.</strong></em></u> In one month. This is what happens when Black Friday and adequate stock meet. It's a record for November, <em>obviously.</em> Is this the turning point for the Wii? Is this when it starts to eclipse the mighty DS Lite for good? Who knows? We're too dazzled by big numbers to <span style="font-style: italic;">analyze.</span><br />
<br />
Unsurprisingly, the surge in Wii sales meant great numbers for <span style="font-style: italic;">Wii Play,</span> because people tend to like having multiple controllers. Much more unexpected is the appearance of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/09/nintendo-says-wii-music-beats-playing-in-snow/"><em>Wii Music</em></a> in the software top 10. It's not a <em>Wii Fit</em> or <em>Wii Play</em>-caliber hit by any means, but some people bought it. Also on the subject of Wii music, the Wii version of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/11/world-tour-nirvana-tracks-now-available-for-download/">Guitar Hero World Tour</a> </em>was the only version to make it into the top 10. No <span style="font-style: italic;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/10/lock-up-your-children-mr-resetti-may-disturb-them/">Animal Crossing</a>,</span> though. Check after the break for the top 10 list.<br />

During last year's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/thanksgiving">Thanksgiving</a> holiday week, the console shifted 350,000 units in the U.S., even though shortages were pretty major at the time. With more Wiis in stores this year, that number jumped to <em>800,000</em>. In a <em>single freakin' week</em>. To put that in perspective, Nintendo sold 803,000 Wiis in the <em>whole of October</em>. <em>Italics</em>. Yikes.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/iwata">Satoru Iwata</a> broke the happy news in an interview with Reuters, adding that "When the economy is strong, people tend to buy three things from the top of their wishlist. But when things are bad, people often buy only the first thing on their list. Fortunately for us a lot of shoppers put our products at the top of their list." That's a pretty sizeable "nyah!" to the competition.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/08/what-a-wiik-nintendo-claims-800k-consoles-sold-thanksgiving-wee/">Joystiq</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/08/wii-serious-business-during-thanksgiving-week/">Wii serious business during Thanksgiving week</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 08 Dec 2008 18:26:00 EST. "We entered into the Black Friday sales period with cautious optimism" admitted Microsoft's Don Mattrick, adding that "record Black Friday sales in the US, coupled with our existing global install base of 25 million and an online community of more than 14 million Xbox Live members, have laid the groundwork for continued global sales momentum in 2009." <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/black-friday">Black Friday</a>, whether you view it as America's most chaotic consumer spending spree or simply as an excuse to <em>shove</em> everyone between you and a $3 toaster, is a critical retail event for console manufacturers. <a href="http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/xbox-360-us-sales-see-record-breaking-black-friday-weekend">According to Microsoft</a>, the Xbox 360 enjoyed record sales during the frantic shopping period, amounting to an increase of 25% over last year. The company can't resist claiming victory in a battle that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/01/black-friday-2008-wii-crowned-economy-still-down/">doesn't involve the Wii</a> -- the Xbox 360 is said to have outsold the PlayStation 3 by a factor of three.<br /><br />Microsoft also expressed satisfaction with software sales, with <em>Gears of War 2</em>, <em>Fable 2</em> and <em>Lips</em> (yes, the karaoke game) leading the way. We'll have to wait until November's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/NPD/">NPD</a> results are out until we can see just how well each of those titles fared.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/02/microsoft-black-friday-xbox-360-sales-trump-ps3-3-to-1/">Microsoft: Black Friday Xbox 360 sales trump PS3 3-to-1</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 02 Dec 2008 09:15:00 EST. Even though the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/01/wii-was-most-desired-ebay-item-on-black-friday/">Wii reigned supreme on eBay</a>, other retailer sites saw crazy demand for Nintendo's fitness package, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/14/reggie-praises-wii-fit-longevity-at-investors-conference/"><em>Wii Fit</em></a>. For major retail site Amazon.com, the Wii and <em>Wii Fit</em> were the top-selling video game items throughout the day on Friday. On eBay-owned Shopping.com, the top searches were for <em>Wii Fit</em> and the Nintendo Wii. And during a season that is expected to generate $29 billion, that's a lot of green for Nintendo.<br /><br />Any of you snag a Wii or <em>Wii Fit</em> to gift someone this holiday season?<br /><br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=21297">Gamasutra</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/01/unsurprisingly-wii-fit-sells-big-on-black-friday/">Unsurprisingly, Wii Fit sells big on Black Friday</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 01 Dec 2008 18:27:00 EST. Black Friday 2008 will be <a href="http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&amp;sid=aLqPiB6k_l6U&amp;refer=home">remembered</a> as a slight, but pleasant bump in a rocky road for retail this holiday. Fitting, then, that Wii and its equally scarce sidekick, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/wii-fit/"><em>Wii Fit</em></a>, were the <a href="http://news.cnet.com/8301-1001_3-10109931-92.html?tag=rtcol;pop">top search</a> items on the day. As it turns out, folks wanted to shop (172 million to be exact!), they just couldn't always buy what they were searching for. With Wii in short supply at retail, eBay merchants continued to turn profits on resales of the console with an average selling price of $349. Overall, online shopping <a href="http://www.comscore.com/press/release.asp?press=2604">totals</a> grew modestly relative to last year.<br /> <br />Meanwhile, a stack of Xbox 360s caused a <a href="http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/2008/11/29/video-black-friday-shoppers-brawl-over-last-360/">brawl</a> at Walmart, and, in a macabre turn of events, an employee was <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2008/11/29/business/29walmart.html?scp=1&amp;sq=walmart&amp;st=cse">trampled</a> to death by a frenzied mob at the Green Acres Mall in Valley Stream, New York. In California, two men killed each other in a <a href="http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-toysrus30-2008nov30,0,71300.story">gunfight</a> that erupted at the Palm Desert Toys R Us.
