Looking to add a spark of new life to your old, rusty Xbox 360 games? First of all, how did your games manage to get <em>rusty</em>? Did you have them bronzed? More importantly, a slew of discounts on older DLC items on the Xbox Live Marketplace might just what your floundering classics need.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/06/lots-of-older-xbox-live-marketplace-content-discounted/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Lots of older Xbox Live Marketplace content discounted</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/06/lots-of-older-xbox-live-marketplace-content-discounted/">Lots of older Xbox Live Marketplace content discounted</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 06 Jul 2010 23:00:00 EST. What a coincidence! Amazon is currently offering <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/20/joystiq-hands-on-blue-dragon-plus-ds/"><em>Blue Dragon Plus</em></a> for <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Blue-Dragon-Plus-Nintendo-DS/dp/B001G9F9JQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;s=videogames&amp;qid=1266527315&amp;sr=8-1">$9.98</a>. You can add the strategy guide for just <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Dragon-Official-Strategy-Bradygames-Guides/dp/0744010977/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&amp;s=books&amp;qid=1266527315&amp;sr=8-2">$3.42</a>! It's the perfect time to get caught up with the adventures of Shu, Marumaro, and a bunch of giant blue monsters before the <em>next Blue Dragon </em>game hits DS. <br />
<br />
Also, it serves as a reminder that <em>yes</em>, another <em>Blue Dragon </em>game <em>is</em> hitting DS. D3 Publisher is releasing <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/29/blue-dragon-awakened-shadow-coming-to-ds-in-spring-2010/"><em>Blue Dragon: Awakened Shadow</em></a> at an unspecified date this spring.<br />

If you've been dying to march Akira Toriyama-designed characters through fantasy landscapes and monster-infested dungeons, you'll be saddened to hear that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dragon-quest-ix"><em>Dragon Quest IX</em></a> has yet to be announced for North American release. As if sensing your oddly specific yearning, D3Publisher has stepped in with a US debut for <em>Blue Dragon: Awakened Shadow</em>. <br /><br />Dubbed <a href="http://nintendo.joystiq.com/2008/12/12/mistwalker-and-namco-team-up-for-new-blue-dragon-game/"><em>Blue Dragon: Ikai no Kyojuu</em></a> in Japan (and published by Namco Bandai, which owns the majority of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/18/namco-bandai-now-owns-95-of-d3-publisher/">D3Publisher</a>), the second DS entry in the Mistwalker's role-playing franchise stars a new protagonist, with gender, facial features and clothing determined by your input. <em>Awakened Shadow</em> is set two years after the events of the Xbox 360 game and finds Shu and the gang returning to <em>Blue Dragon</em>'s "contemporary" RPG gameplay. Expect to upgrade weaponry, tactically change shadows and skip every scene featuring Marumaro. <br /><br /><em>Blue Dragon: Awakened Shadow</em> is scheduled for release in Spring 2010.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/29/blue-dragon-awakened-shadow-coming-to-ds-in-spring-2010/">Blue Dragon: Awakened Shadow coming to DS in Spring 2010</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 29 Oct 2009 14:30:00 EST. <div align="left">It is no secret that the Xbox 360 is not Japan's gaming console of choice. Just look at 2008's software sales and you'll spot just <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/21/only-one-xbox-360-game-made-japans-top-100-in-sales/">one Xbox 360 game</a> in Japan's top 100. But that doesn't mean Microsoft's Japanese situation is a complete lost cause, because console sales are actually on the rise (year over year) and <em>some</em> games have sold rather well.<br /></div>
</div>
<br /><a href="http://www.gamezine.co.uk/news/formats/xbox360/xbox-360-in-japan-top-30-game-sellers-since-launch-$1264372.htm">Gamezine.co.uk</a> put together a list of the top 30 Xbox 360 games sold in Japan, and sitting proudly on top is none other than <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/blue-dragon"><em>Blue Dragon</em></a> and its 203,740 lifetime unit sales. Rounding out the rest of the top five are <em>Tales of Vesperia</em>, <em>The Last Remnant</em>, <em>Infinite Undiscovery</em> and <em>Lost Odyssey</em>. As far as 360 hardware is concerned, Microsoft has been able to steadily increase console sales year after year, with 2008's total Japanese sales peaking at around 317K units. But don't get confused, the Japanese Xbox 360 situation is still very, very bleak and very, very depressing. These numbers are one of a few "bright spots."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/28/japanese-360-sales-blue-dragon-on-top-console-sales-on-the-up/">Japanese 360 sales: Blue Dragon on top, console sales on the up</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 28 Jan 2009 14:45:00 EST. "I think the Wii is a wonderful system," he said. "It's very unique, starting with its iconic controllers." When asked about making a game for Wii, he said that Mistwalker has "no plans at the moment," but he "would love to make a Wii game in the future." <br /><br />We hear you. "Dude, go for it," you say. "Please make it?" you ask. "Love that mustache!" you exclaim. He's a talented guy. We totally get it.<br /><br />But, what's stopping Mistwalker from undertaking a Wii project? His company has already worked with Nintendo in bringing multiple titles to the DS, so why not make the leap to Wii? Personally, we'd appreciate the injection of JRPG goodness that he'd bring to the Wii. Let's hope he gets around to it sooner rather than later.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/14/sakaguchi-would-love-to-make-a-wii-game/">Sakaguchi would 'love to make a Wii game'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 14 Jan 2009 12:49:00 EST. It's difficult to glean much new information from these dim images -- indeed, the original <a href="http://www.gamekyo.com/images0_4_29418.html"><em>Shonen Jump</em> scans</a> were <em>much</em> clearer -- but Gamekyo whipped out its magnifying glass and located one crucial nugget of information: a Japanese release date of March.<br /><br />Obviously, whether we even <em>get </em>this <em>Blue Dragon</em> game in the west could depend on whether anybody buys <em>Blue Dragon Plus</em>, so prep your wallets for <a href="http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?Product_ID=72983">February 24</a>!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/08/blue-dragon-blurry-beasts-of-the-underworld/">Blue Dragon: Blurry Beasts of the Underworld</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 08 Jan 2009 18:00:00 EST. According to the latest issue of Shonen Jump magazine in Japan, the DS is set to receive a second <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/blue-dragon">Blue Dragon</a> </em>game, which can best be translated as <em>Blue Dragon: Beasts of the Underworld</em>. Unlike <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/blue-dragon-plus"><em>Blue Dragon Plus</em></a>, this new collaboration between Namco and Mistwalker will be a real-time RPG with full 3D graphics, as opposed to the strategic affair <em>Plus</em> is. Instead of focusing on the main characters from the <em>Blue Dragon </em>franchise, you'll instead control a nameless protagonist. <br /><br /><em>Blue Dragon: Beasts of the Underworld</em> is currently slated for release sometime next year.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.siliconera.com/2008/12/12/mistwalker-partnering-with-namco-bandai-for-new-blue-dragon-game/">Source</a> - Siliconera translation<br /><a href="http://www.gamekyo.com/images0_4_29418.html">Source</a> - Scan from Shonen Jump<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/12/mistwalker-and-namco-team-up-for-new-blue-dragon-game/">Mistwalker and Namco team up for new Blue Dragon game</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 12 Dec 2008 13:56:00 EST. Now that the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/16/blue-dragon-plus-flaps-our-way-next-march/">North American and European releases</a> are approaching, however, the game is starting to pop up again. <br /><br />Along with this video -- which does an admirable job of capturing an epic feel -- the English-language <a href="http://www.yourbluedragon.com/">website</a> is up and is stuffed full of content you can actually <em>read</em>. Ignition Entertainment will be hoping for similar results when it publishes the big-haired, monster-summoning JRPG to not-Japan, and today it announced a North American <em>and</em> European release date of March 2009, falling in line with its <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/16/blue-dragon-away-shuffle-dungeon-confirmed-for-u-s/">promise</a> of a release this fiscal year. <br /><br />That's still quite a wait (you could say it will <em>drag on</em>, if you were a blogger looking for a lame joke to brighten up a dry story), though should nicely pad out a traditionally quiet time of the year.<br /><br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/16/blue-dragon-plus-flaps-our-way-next-march/">Blue Dragon Plus flaps our way next March</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 16 Sep 2008 15:00:00 EST. <em> Blue Dragon Plus</em> is only a few months away (if you happen to live in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/19/blue-dragon-plus-in-japan-this-september-with-uninspiring-box/">Japan</a>). It's not too much of a stretch to expect a delay in North America, despite the vague "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/16/blue-dragon-away-shuffle-dungeon-confirmed-for-u-s/">fiscal year</a>" confirmations we've been hearing about. The artwork of Akira Toriyama must be acknowledged on a tiny screen real soon, or RPG fans are going to start dishing out angry mob justice.<br /><br />The "promise" we experienced with the <em>Blue Dragon Plus</em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/01/blue-dragon-plus-site-shows-promise/">website</a> has been somewhat fulfilled, after being updated with a new Japanese trailer. While this isn't especially handy for English speakers, it does run for over three minutes, giving fans a good deal of gameplay footage, CG cutscenes and character art. We've managed to circumvent the awkward media player on the website and rustle up the trailer in all of its YouTube glory, so check it out and get your <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/blue-dragon-plus/"><em>Blue Dragon</em></a> nerve twitching.<br /><br />
<br />[Via <a href="http://www.videogaming247.com/2008/07/16/blue-dragon-plus-ds-official-site-and-video-released/">videogaming247</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/16/blue-dragon-plus-website-adds-a-new-trailer/">Blue Dragon Plus website adds a new trailer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 16 Jul 2008 15:30:00 EST. This comes as little surprise, since AQ Interactive <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/16/blue-dragon-away-shuffle-dungeon-confirmed-for-u-s/">announced</a> that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/31/blue-dragon-plus-touch-screen-equals-new-battle-system/"><em>Blue Dragon Plus</em></a> would release in the U.S. by the end of the fiscal year, but we're still glad to see a firm Japanese release date for Mistwalker/feelplus's strategy-RPG sequel. It's scheduled to be out September 4, for 5,229 yen ($50).<br /><br />We're slightly less enthused by what AQ Interactive decided to do with the box. It's less "grand adventure" (which is the feeling that most <em>Blue Dragon</em> artwork evokes for us) and more "horrific <a href="http://www.fisher-price.com/us/seensay/">See 'N Say</a>." The giant, blue, snake-tailed, winged horse says "Neigh! See you in your nightmares!"<br /><br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/19/blue-dragon-plus-in-japan-this-september-with-uninspiring-box/">Blue Dragon Plus in Japan this September with uninspiring box</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 19 May 2008 08:45:00 EST. Despite <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/11/21/blue-dragon-2-already-in-the-works/">rumors of a sequel</a>, it's not considered to be much of a success in the community. Now it's time to take advantage of that, considering that the game is actually pretty good if you can stand the pure Japan of the thing. Both <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B000QW9D14/ref=dp_olp_2?ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1208376686&amp;sr=8-1">Amazon</a> and <a href="http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2817790">Toysrus</a> had the game up for $19.99, but Amazon is currently sold out, so if you want a deal on a good JPRG you're going to have to make your purchase at <a href="http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2817790">Toysrus</a>. It involves a set of three icons that appear on the right side of the touch screen. The top icon allows you to set one particular character's movement, and the bottom icon moves everybody. The middle icon allows you (we believe) to highlight multiple characters by drawing a circle around them.<br /><br />Each character has a selection of "killer techniques" accessible via the bottom left of the touch screen. Players cycle through them with the shoulder buttons and then must wait for a countdown before they are activated. <br /><br />We're encouraged by the presence of a new battle system in the DS game. It shows evidence of thought toward the platform, at least.<br /><br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/31/blue-dragon-plus-touch-screen-equals-new-battle-system/">Blue Dragon Plus touch screen equals new battle system!</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 31 Mar 2008 10:30:00 EST. Translations from the publisher's <a href="http://www.aqi.co.jp/product/bdp/">official <em>BDP</em> site</a> (via <a href="http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=234565">NeoGAF</a>) indicate the game is set to be a "simulation RPG." The description and subsequent new screenshots remind us of <em>Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings</em> (<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/12/joystiq-impressions-final-fantasy-xii-revenant-wings/">not a bad comparison</a>, mind you).<br /><br />The site also seems to indicate that <em>BDP </em>takes place just after the events of the first <em>Blue Dragon.</em> So with a bold-faced <strong>spoiler alert</strong> we caution you against clicking on the main website as, once it loads, it gives away a big part of the Xbox 360 version's storyline. But rather than being disappointed by this, we're quite delighted, because <em>summer</em> is much sooner than <em>never</em>. Mistwalker announced earlier this week that it had been <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/11/blue-dragon-delayed-indefinitely/">delayed indefinitely</a>, leading some to believe that might be shelved for good.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/17/away-shuffles-the-rendering-styles/"><em>Away: Shuffle Dungeon</em></a> has also been delayed by AQ Interactive, resulting in somewhat of a different reaction. We were surprised to find that <em>Blue Dragon Plus</em> has a release date <em>now</em> after its presumed cancellation<em>, </em>but this delay was a reminder to us that <em>Away</em> had a release date <em>at all.</em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/02/gamers-wont-wait-long-for-blue-dragon-ds/">Back in October</a>, Mistwalker said that <em>Away</em> would be out on January 31st, and in the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/02/dont-run-away-from-these-fresh-scans/">latest scans</a> you can just <em>barely</em> make out a February 28th date. We just didn't realize that it was (supposed to be) out so soon. It's currently planned for a summer release as well.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/18/bad-news-for-away-good-news-for-blue-dragon/">Bad news for Away, good news for Blue Dragon</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 18 Jan 2008 13:30:00 EST. French gaming site Jeux-France is reporting that the Nintendo DS adaptation of Mistwalker's <em>Blue Dragon </em><a href="http://jeux-france.com/news23520_blue-dragon-plus-reporte.html">has been delayed</a> without a future release window. The title was planned for a <a href="http://www.dsfanboy.com/2007/10/02/gamers-wont-wait-long-for-blue-dragon-ds/">March release</a>, although given its original <a href="http://www.dsfanboy.com/2007/09/21/blue-dragon-casts-its-shadow-on-the-ds/">September revelation</a>, we thought the date was a bit suspect.<br /><br />Despite the indefinite loss of a portable <em>Blue Dragon</em>, fans of Hironobu Sakaguchi's work can look forward to other DS releases from the studio, including <em>ASH: Archaic Sealed Heat </em>(already out in Japan) and <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/12/is-mistwalkers-next-ds-game-a-random-dungeon-crawler/">Away: Shuffle Dungeon</a><em>. </em></em><br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.dsfanboy.com/2008/01/11/blue-dragon-delayed-indefinitely/">DS Fanboy</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/11/blue-dragon-ds-delayed-indefinitely/">Blue Dragon DS delayed indefinitely</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 11 Jan 2008 18:00:00 EST. <br />The latest issue of Famitsu didn't only have some interesting stuff regarding <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/09/ninja-gaiden-scans-steathily-emerge/"><em>Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword</em></a>, but also a spread on Mistwalker's upcoming DS entry <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/20/a-closer-look-at-blue-dragon/"><em>Blue Dragon Plus</em></a>. And, as intrigued as we were when it was initially thought to be <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/14/blue-dragon-ds-nothing-to-do-with-cards-after-all/">a card-based game</a>, we're now even more interested in what the game will bring to the DS. Sakaguchi <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/22/ds-daily-heroes/">never disappoints</a>, after all.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/09/famitsu-treats-us-to-more-blue-dragon/">Famitsu treats us to more Blue Dragon</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 09 Jan 2008 16:00:00 EST. <strong> <em><strong>Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition</strong></em> (Wii)<br /><br /></strong>For a port of a two-year-old game, <em>RE4: Wii Edition</em> didn't have a whole lot going for it. It had the same extra features as the PS2 port of the game, not-so-updated graphics, and slightly lower reviews than its original iteration -- and yet, somehow, just by changing how the game is controlled, Capcom created an entirely new adventure. When the peculiar controls for the Wii were first announced, this is the type of interactivity that I imagined from the future games for the system -- responsive, accurate, and realistic. The only way they could have made the gunplay feel any more natural would have been to package the game with an actual gun, which you shot at the on-screen zombies. The deluge of pre-<a href="http://dsfanboy.com/tag/jump-festa">Jump Festa</a> info continues, and with it comes a three-page spread on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/14/blue-dragon-ds-nothing-to-do-with-cards-after-all/"><em>Blue Dragon</em></a>, complete with new images. Unsurprisingly, there's a lot of <em>blue</em> in the pictures. Who'd have thought?<br /><br />We've seen and heard a lot of rumblings about whether or not <em>Blue Dragon</em> can make the leap from console to handheld, but it's worked for so many other games and franchises that we don't have any major worries. Certainly it will look good, but after the mediocre reaction to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ash"><em>ASH</em></a>, we've got fingers crossed concerning the game play. We'll have to wait a bit longer to see that, however. For now, you can check out the scans after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/20/a-closer-look-at-blue-dragon/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>A closer look at Blue Dragon</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/20/a-closer-look-at-blue-dragon/">A closer look at Blue Dragon</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 20 Dec 2007 09:45:00 EST. <br />Remember those <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/21/blue-dragon-casts-its-shadow-on-the-ds/">vicious rumors</a> regarding <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/blue-dragon"><em>Blue Dragon DS</em></a> being a card-based RPG? Well, looks like they may have been wide of the mark, as a new scan gleaned from the pages of Japanese publication <em>Shonen Jump</em> suggests otherwise. Instead, the magazine describes the game as a "real-time simulation RPG," a label that brings to mind the recently released <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/28/ds-fanboy-review-final-fantasy-xii-revenant-wings/"><em>Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings</em></a>. Whatever the hell Mistwalker's game is -- and the screens do suggest a kind of real-time strategy/RPG hybrid -- there's certainly no mention of cards. <br /><br />Pleasingly, that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/02/gamers-wont-wait-long-for-blue-dragon-ds/">March 2008</a> Japanese release date seems to have held, which surely means we'll have more information on this in the not-too-distant future. Go past the break for the <span style="font-style: italic;">Shonen Jump</span> scan.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/14/blue-dragon-ds-nothing-to-do-with-cards-after-all/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Blue Dragon DS nothing to do with cards after all</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/14/blue-dragon-ds-nothing-to-do-with-cards-after-all/">Blue Dragon DS nothing to do with cards after all</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 14 Dec 2007 18:00:00 EST. Looks like the <em>Blue Dragon</em> DS game will get a limited edition for its Japanese release. While that certainly comes as no surprise, it does remind everyone else that our limited edition quota is somewhat unfulfilled. Sure, we got the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/29/sears-black-friday-ad-reveals-two-new-ds-lites/"><em>Zelda</em> and <em>Nintendogs</em></a> Lites, and that's great, but we'd love to see a few more game-specific bundles. Which game's logo or characters would you like to have emblazoned on your DS?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/14/ds-daily-limited-edition-dreams/">DS Daily: Limited edition dreams</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 14 Dec 2007 09:00:00 EST. Titled <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/02/gamers-wont-wait-long-for-blue-dragon-ds/"><em>Away: The Kidnapped People</em></a>, little was known regarding it, other than Hironobu Sakaguchi and Nobuo Uematsu were working on it directly. Now, courtesy of a Japanese <a href="http://ir.eol.co.jp/EIR/3838?task=download&amp;download_category=tanshin&amp;id=503973&amp;a=b.pdf">press release</a> (link goes to pdf file), new details regarding the game have surfaced. <br /><br />It appears that <em>Away: The Kidnapped People</em> is to utilize a unique randomized dungeon system. Described as an action RPG, the fine folks over at Siliconera deduced that since the Japanese press release calls the game <em>Away: Shuffle Dungeon</em>, and with the <em>Blue Dragon</em> random dungeon generator DLC for Xbox 360 being titled "Shuffle Dungeon Maker," that <em>Away </em>must use the same randomized dungeon feature.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/12/is-mistwalkers-next-ds-game-a-random-dungeon-crawler/">Joystiq</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/12/mistwalker-reminds-us-they-have-something-besides-blue-dragon/">Mistwalker reminds us they have something besides Blue Dragon</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 12 Nov 2007 12:20:00 EST. The anime series is a semi-hit in Japan's Saturday morning cartoon circuit, so we just might be in for some entertaining anime fun or a lot of dragon confusion. But in doing so, they also confirmed that some new DLC will be hitting the Marketplace in mid-November.<br /><br />According to the <a href="http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=30046">press release</a>, a piece of <em>Blue Dragon</em> DLC called "Shuffled Dungeon" will be available for 400 Microsoft points (ouch?) on Friday, November 16th. We're sure the new "Shuffled Dungeon" content will be uber spectacular especially for all the "Shuffled" collectors of the <em>Blue Dragon</em> world, but at 400 points, it won't be an impulse buy. Anyway, more <em>Blue Dragon</em> money spending fun has been confirmed for November 16th ... get your wallets primed.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/29/blue-dragon-gets-shuffled-dungeon-dlc-in-nov/">Blue Dragon gets Shuffled Dungeon DLC in Nov.</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 29 Oct 2007 14:15:00 EST. This is the second bit of DLC for the game, the first -- Hard mode - being <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/28/free-download-makes-blue-dragon-ultra-hard/">released</a> last month. This new DLC is entitled "6 Treasures" gives players access to 6 new items that grant special abilities to their characters. One in particular -- the Shuffled Helmet -- creates the most powerful armor in the game when combined with Shuffled Splint and Shuffled Breastplate. Honestly, we haven't delved into the game, so we don't know how useful all these items are, though they will probably be welcome to those endeavoring to complete hard mode. The DLC is available for 200 MS Points. Check out the all 6 of the items contained in the pack after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/26/new-blue-dragon-items-now-on-xblm/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>New Blue Dragon items now on XBLM</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/26/new-blue-dragon-items-now-on-xblm/">New Blue Dragon items now on XBLM</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 26 Oct 2007 15:30:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/21/blue-dragon-casts-its-shadow-on-the-ds/"><em>Blue Dragon DS</em></a>, the spin-off (or possible continuation) of the Xbox 360 RPG, was just announced and now Mistwalker promises it will be on shelves by <em>next March</em>. Those guys work fast! But just to sweeten the pot, they've also promised another title to release even sooner -- <em>AWAY Tsuresarareta Hitobito</em>, aka <em>Away: The Kidnapped People</em> -- which is slated for January 31 in Japan. There are some big names working on <em>Away</em>, most notably Mistwalker's Hironobu Sakaguchi and renowned composer Nobuo Uematsu. <br /><br />Both titles look to have some serious potential, and if <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/10/ash-still-pretty-still-sans-motion/"><em>ASH</em></a> is any indication, we can start expected a flood of scans right about ... <em>now</em>, and video precisely three days before the games are released.<br /><br />It's okay, Mistwalker. We like you anyway.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/02/gamers-wont-wait-long-for-blue-dragon-ds/">Gamers won't wait long for Blue Dragon DS</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 02 Oct 2007 13:10:00 EST. For those out there who thought Mistwalker's <em>Blue Dragon</em> was too easy for your tastes, Microsoft has just released <a href="http://majornelson.com/archive/2007/09/28/marketplace-roundup-for-september-28-2007.aspx">new content</a> aimed at upping the ante for the RPG's difficulty. Best of all? It's free. <br /><br />Dubbed the Ultra Hard Mod, the new content has three aspects. The first is Game Plus, which allows you to start a new game using a saved file from near the end. The other two are specifically for the masochistic: Hard Mode, reportedly twice as challenging as normal, and Impossible, which is meant to play with characters starting at level 50 or higher. (If you want to do the Impossible at level 10, however, by all means go for it. Let us know how that works out.)<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/28/new-blue-dragon-dlc-ups-the-difficulty-for-free/">New Blue Dragon DLC ups the difficulty for free</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 28 Sep 2007 19:00:00 EST. The Ultra Hard Mod download adds three new options to the game; New Game Plus, Hard Game Mode and Impossible Game Mode. New Game Plus allows players to start over from game saves towards the end, Hard Game Mode makes <em>Blue Dragon</em> twice as hard as the original experience and Impossible Game Mode is well ... extremely difficult and is targeted towards players who are level 50 or higher. With yesterday's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/22/ds-daily-were-soooo-pumped-for-blue-dragon/">DS Daily</a>, we thought about all of the franchises that generally aren't represented or have recently made their way onto the DS. We thought about how a game (take <em>Blue Dragon,</em> for example) could make its way onto the DS, totally disregarding its initial genre, utilizing the unique functions of the handheld.<br /><br />So, if you could take a franchise and adapt it for play on the DS, what franchise would it be and how would you augment its initial genre and style for the handheld? Would you take a game in the FPS genre and turn it into a side-scroller on the platform? Would you adapt a card game into a shoot-em-up?<br /><br />Take those two cents out of your pocket and toss them in.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/23/ds-daily-what-franchise-needs-to-be-on-the-ds/">DS Daily: What franchise needs to be on the DS?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 23 Sep 2007 10:30:00 EST. Having several friends who're all kinds of knee-deep in the <a href="http://www.box360fanboy.com">Xbox 360</a> game <em>Blue Dragon</em>, we found that we too wanted to get our role-play on and started it up. We didn't get far, but the 2 hours or so of the game got us pumped. We genuinely felt that this game could be <em>excellent</em> beyond all comprehension.<br /><br />And now <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/21/blue-dragon-casts-its-shadow-on-the-ds/">it's coming</a> to the DS?! Holy hand grenade, we can't wait for it, even if it's a card-based game. How about you, folks? Are you as excited as we are? Or, could you care less?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/22/ds-daily-were-soooo-pumped-for-blue-dragon/">DS Daily: We're soooo pumped for Blue Dragon</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 22 Sep 2007 10:30:00 EST. <span style="float: left; margin-right: 10px; margin-top: 7px;"> <script> var digg_url = 'http://digg.com/gaming_news/Blue_Dragon_coming_to_DS'; </script> <script src="http://digg.com/api/diggthis.js"></script></span>Mistwalker seems to be pro-DS, which we guess means they like <em>money</em>. Not only are they bringing us <a href="http://dsfanboy.com/tag/ash"><em>ASH</em></a>, which looks not completely terrible, but now it seems that they will be sending us <em>Blue Dragon</em>, the title that encouraged Japanese gamers to buy an <a href="http://xbox.joystiq.com/">Xbox 360</a>. We smell a special edition DS Lite in the works for this one. After all, they have to try to drive system sales again <em>somehow</em>.<br /><br />So what's the less-than-good news? It's a card game. Technically, a role-playing card game, according to the scan from <em>Shonen Jump</em> (available after the break). Mistwalker apparently likes to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/13/archaic-rounded-up-heat/">blend game types</a>; one style just isn't enough for them when it comes to their DS offerings. We'll keep an eye out for more information on this one, because Mistwalker might just surprise us and turn out the <em>best damned card game ever</em>.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/21/blue-dragon-casts-its-shadow-on-the-ds/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Blue Dragon casts its shadow on the DS</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/21/blue-dragon-casts-its-shadow-on-the-ds/">Blue Dragon casts its shadow on the DS</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 21 Sep 2007 14:00:00 EST.
