You line up blocks of the same color, and then drop a bomb to destroy all adjacent same-color blocks within the bomb's one-block blast radius. It's sort of like a simplified <em>Puzzle Fighter</em>, since there's no timer on the bombs and they aren't color-coded. There are added complexities, like locked blocks that require two bombs to clear and an optional mode that lets you rescue a monkey from a cage (by blowing it up), but the foundation is almost immediately understood.<br /><br />I'm totally not saying that as a bad thing, either. Maybe more than any puzzle game I've played, <em>Bomb Monkey</em> immediately gets you into the pleasurable business of making giant chain-reaction combos and watching everything on the screen vanish.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/bomb-monkey-3ds/">Bomb Monkey (3DS)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/bomb-monkey-3ds/#5125878"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/06/i34086_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/bomb-monkey-3ds/#5125879"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/06/i34087_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/bomb-monkey-3ds/#5125880"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/06/i34088_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/28/portabliss-bomb-monkey-3ds-eshop/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Portabliss: Bomb Monkey (3DS eShop)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/28/portabliss-bomb-monkey-3ds-eshop/">Portabliss: Bomb Monkey (3DS eShop)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 28 Jun 2012 20:15:00 EST. Last weekend, Nintendo discounted <em>Super Mario Land</em> temporarily; this weekend's sale on <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/vvvvvv"><em>VVVVVV</em></a> proves that these limited-time discounts are an actual <em>thing</em>. For a digital Nintendo platform, two sales is a giant leap forward.<br /><br />That discount is joined by a demo for Rhythm Thief, which appears to actually be coming out, and interesting new eShop games <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/bomb-monkey"><em>Bomb Monkey</em></a> and <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/marvel-pinball-3d"><em>Marvel Pinball 3D</em></a>. <br /><br />It's not so great for the Wii this week, with absolutely no releases of any kind on the Wii Shop, but it can't <em>all</em> be good news.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/28/nintendoware-weekly-bomb-monkey-marvel-pinball-vvvvvv-sale/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>NintendoWare Weekly: Bomb Monkey, Marvel Pinball, VVVVVV sale</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/28/nintendoware-weekly-bomb-monkey-marvel-pinball-vvvvvv-sale/">NintendoWare Weekly: Bomb Monkey, Marvel Pinball, VVVVVV sale</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 28 Jun 2012 15:00:00 EST. Lest you haven't been following <em>Bomb Monkey</em>, it's a puzzle game about a monkey ... with bombs. Watch the trailer, it's pretty self explanatory.<br /><br />What's not quite as self-explanatory is <em>Bomb Monkey</em>'s multiplayer mode, which allows two players to play simultaneously on a <em>single 3DS</em>. Holding the 3DS sideways (like a book), one player controls the actions on one screen with the D-pad, while the other player controls the opposite screen with the face buttons. <em>Madness</em>. Also madness: <em>Bomb Monkey</em> will cost $5.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/22/renegade-kids-bomb-monkey-on-the-3ds-eshop-next-week-for-5/">Renegade Kid's Bomb Monkey on the 3DS eShop next week for $5</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 22 Jun 2012 03:15:00 EST. Literally, all we have is a tease. Specifically, Renegade Kid has opened a <a href="http://www.renegadekid.com/bombmonkey.htm">website</a> for a game called <em>Bomb Monkey</em>. The site includes the image above and a logo for the Nintendo eShop.<br /><br />Given the text and the image, it would appear Bomb Monkey is a puzzle game, possibly of the color-matching variety. Renegade Kid director Jools Watsham <a href="https://twitter.com/#!/JoolsWatsham/status/177062843378712576">tweeted</a> the website saying, "I hope it's not too puzzling if I DROP this here," implying that <em>Bomb Monkey</em> is indeed a traditional puzzler. For the moment, we'll just have to wait and <em>see</em> what monkey <em>do</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/07/renegade-kids-next-eshop-game-bomb-monkey/">Renegade Kid's next eShop game: Bomb Monkey</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 07 Mar 2012 10:00:00 EST.
