We know we've kind of been focused on Animal Crossing a bit in the last week or so, but with the game having been available to you all, we're wondering how you're finding it so far. Have you been going crazy in the game, buying up tons of stuff for your house and running errands for Tom Nook? Have you paid off your house yet? Have you and some friends gotten together and fished or enjoyed some other communal activity? How has your time with Animal Crossing: City Folk been?
Wii Warm Up: Your thoughts on Animal Crossing? originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 18 Nov 2008 08:00:00 EST. Before we dive right into the review, there are a few things you should know. First of all, I was unable to test the game with the WiiSpeak peripheral. With Nintendo only sending us one bundle of the game, it was impossible for me to utilize the peripheral during my time with the game. With that in mind, also understand that our single press review copy meant that I was without individuals to enjoy the multiplayer side of the game. This is purely a review of my time with the single-player portion of the game Animal Crossing: City Folk.

So, head past the break and read about Nintendo's latest game in the Animal Crossing franchise.

Continue reading Wii Fanboy Review: Animal Crossing: City Folk

Wii Fanboy Review: Animal Crossing: City Folk originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 17 Nov 2008 13:40:00 EST. He has no problem with turning new residents into indentured servants, tasking them with delivering packages and carrying out other duties throughout each Animal Crossing game. Once freed from his grip, however, you're free to give him money by checking out the only game in town, his shop. Remember when we reported on a $69.99 price tag on the Animal Crossing/WiiSpeak bundle? Well, it turns out that price was off, by $10. Yes, the bundle will in fact retail for $59.99. That brings WiiSpeak down to $10, with the purchase of Animal Crossing: City Folk.

Animal Crossing: City Folk and WiiSpeak will be out in North America on November 16th.

Animal Crossing/WiiSpeak bundle cheaper than we thought originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 03 Oct 2008 13:42:00 EST.
So here we go -- the next iteration of Animal Crossing is on its way, and we showed you the latest (the box) already. The art definitely emphasizes the larger scope of the title, while still using the familiar logo and character design. By now, though, you probably know whether or not you like Animal Crossing, considering you've had two chances to give it a shot. For a game like this, does the box even really matter? Do you thinkt hey should have changed it, or was keeping the characters -- with their familiar looks -- prominent important? Should the franchise's icons, like KK Slider, been more prominent? Do the fruit trees, and the idea of harvesting all that produce, give you nightmares?

For many, Animal Crossing: City Folk looks a lot like the original GameCube game, both from a presentation standpoint and included features. Sure, Animal Crossing: City Folk has some new stuff, but none of it is really that innovative or indicative of the franchise going into any kind of new direction. It's basically the equivalent to treading water. But, it turns out that popular opinion may not be justified, as some new details regarding the game can be found in the upcoming issue of Nintendo Power.

First of all, those of you who spent time with Animal Crossing: Wild World on the DS, you can transfer your avatar over to the new game. Another cool DS-to-Wii feature will allow you to "take your travel data and download it to your DS." We've no idea what that will entail exactly, but it sounds promising.

As for the Wii game, the holiday-themed events will be returning. Jingle the Reindeer will be back for Toy Day and a new character, Zipper T. Bunny, will make an appearance for Bunny Day. Sound promising!

Continue reading Latest Nintendo Power dishes out new Animal Crossing details, including DS-to-Wii functionality

Latest Nintendo Power dishes out new Animal Crossing details, including DS-to-Wii functionality originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 22 Aug 2008 11:55:00 EST.
In the second year of the newly revamped show, Nintendo released a few much-desired games, as well as a pair of incredible peripherals, and yet, there seemed to be something missing. Much of the show's excitement came from third parties (on my Nintendo Wii?), and some found Nintendo's announcements disappointing. Whatever your reaction, we're sure we can all agree on one thing: there was a ton of news and a flood of media. Luckily, you can revisit it all right here (even the week's most outrageous story, which wasn't even from E3).

We've listed a few of the show's highlights below, but for the full index of all our 2008 E3 coverage, hit the break. We still have a few items rolling in, and we'll be updating the index as that happens. Check back with us over the next few days by clicking the E3 sidebar graphic.

Perhaps the least surprising choice Nintendo could have made for an E3 reveal was Animal Crossing: City Folk ... at least, until they got to the voice chat. That was a pretty huge coup that seemingly came out of nowhere. But don't let that distract you from the heart of the game: digging, decorating, and socializing. Check out some of that in this debut trailer.

E308: First Animal Crossing: City Folk footage originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 15 Jul 2008 16:00:00 EST.
