This is the same version that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/21/portabliss-another-world-20th-anniversary-edition-ios/">appeared on iOS systems</a> a little while ago..<br /><br />The Anniversary Edition of the game includes the ability to switch between old-school and updated graphics with just a swipe of your fingers, as well as both original and remastered soundtracks, controls made just for the touchscreen, and three different difficulty modes. Fans can <a href="http://appworld.blackberry.com/webstore/content/98156/?lang=en">pick up the game for $4.99</a> on BlackBerry's AppWorld ecosystem right now.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/13/another-world-anniversary-edition-comes-to-blackberry-10/">Another World: Anniversary Edition comes to BlackBerry 10</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 13 Feb 2013 02:00:00 EST. An open-source recreation of the game was started up a few years ago, and that version has now been ported to HTML 5, which means the original can <a href="http://play-dune.com/">now be played online in your browser</a>.<br /><br />This version is authentic, but t's obviously not as easy or user-friendly as you might expect from a more modern real-time strategy game. It's a nice trip down memory lane, or maybe just a free introduction to a piece of PC gaming history.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/12/28/dune-2-ported-to-javascript-play-it-for-free-in-your-browser/">Dune 2 ported to Javascript, play it for free in your browser</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 28 Dec 2012 23:59:00 EST. In fact, the resale giant has amassed such a large back catalogue of classics that its heavily considering an entrance into the vintage resale market, though when that will happen remains a mystery.<br /><br />"If you go to eBay and look at all of the gaming stuff that's on there, it's unbelievable. Collector's stuff. We've got to be in that business. We will be," Gamestop CEO Paul Raines told <a href="http://www.theverge.com/2012/8/30/3279278/gamestop-vintage-store">Polygon</a>. "We think there's a vintage sales opportunity, so we're accumulating some inventory. It's a big idea, and there's a few problems with it. The first one is sourcing the product, the condition, the refurbishment, all that stuff. But there's a customer for it. And we're working on some stuff we haven't announced yet."<br /><br />If/when it does enter the classic games business, Gamestop will do so through its website, rather than expanding the scope of its retail locations. How many priceless Atari 2600 carts would we have to trade in for a used iPad, do you think?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/30/gamestop-ceo-company-could-expand-into-vintage-games-business/">Gamestop CEO: Company could expand into vintage games business</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 30 Aug 2012 15:40:00 EST. Ubisoft, however, controls <em>Electronic Symphony</em>'s content - so Q Entertainment is asking fans to tell the publisher they want some DLC. This is what your mom was talking about when she said the "good" kind of peer pressure.<br /><br />"Who wants some DLC?" Q Entertainment writes on the <a href="https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=253640164755557&amp;id=108090705977171"><em>Electronic Symphony</em> Facebook</a> wall. "To be clear: This is not something that's planned at the moment, but if enough people say 'yeah!' maybe <em>Electronic Symphony</em>'s publisher, Ubisoft, will greenlight a high-def Vitafied recreation of 'Shinin''? Dare to dream."<br /><br />Almost 100 people have said they "Like" the idea of Vita DLC, and others have added variations of "Yeah!" to the post's comments. Q Entertainment knows we can't all get what we want - unless we <em>all </em>want it, that is.<br /><br />[Thanks, Mike J.]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/07/lumines-electronic-symphony-asks-you-to-spam-ubisoft-for-classic/">Lumines Electronic Symphony asks you to spam Ubisoft for classic DLC</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 07 Aug 2012 17:00:00 EST. Just this evening, a countdown has appeared on the site, along with a tune (more on that in a second), both that seem to be hinting at a big reveal coming up in just about twelve hours from now, at 11am Pacific on Thursday morning.<br /> <br /> The music, which is reminiscent of <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZP7vWiaxw7Y">the theme from the legendary singleplayer RPG</a> (and sounds great) is indeed linked to a file on <a href="http://www.beamdog.com/">Beamdog.com</a>, which is former BioWare designer Trent Oster's website, and has previously published <a href="http://www.beamdog.com/products/mdk2-hd">an enhanced remake</a> of BioWare's <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/mdk-2"><em>MDK2</em></a>. Considering that the sound file is actually located at "files/overhaul/theme.mp3," it's probably a good bet that the announcement is some sort of <em>Baldur's Gate</em> remake from Oster's studio, <a href="http://overhaulgames.com/">Overhaul Games</a>.<br /> <br /> For exactly what platforms however (PC, iOS, or even consoles), we'll have to wait until the official word arrives. The good news is that there's not too long to wait. If you hurry, you can listen to the minute-long theme music about 720 more times before the big reveal arrives.<br /> <br /></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/15/baldurs-gate-teaser-site-gets-a-countdown-and-a-soundtrack/">Baldur's Gate teaser site gets a countdown and a soundtrack</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 15 Mar 2012 02:15:00 EST. Assuming you're still buying games from GOG.com after <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/27/gog-coms-guillaume-rambourg-explains-what-happened-last-week/">last week's shutdown stunt</a>, there are some excellent deals to be had this week on the site's <a href="http://www.gog.com/en/promo/community_favourites">"Community Favorites" list</a>. All of the games on the list are half off, which means you can pick up <a href="http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/duke_nukem_3d_atomic_edition"><em>Duke Nukem 3D: Atomic Edition</em></a> or <a href="http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/myst_masterpiece_edition"><em>Myst: Masterpiece Edition</em></a> for just three bucks, and <a href="http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/psychonauts"><em>Psychonauts</em></a> or <a href="http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/syberia"><em>Syberia</em></a> for just five.<br />
<br />
Sure, the site may have played a little too hard on your heartstrings with its fake story of shutting down for good just to promote a site revamp, but everybody appreciates cheap, classic PC games, right? And even if not, you can always go <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/30/peggle-for-a-buck-many-top-ios-games-on-sale-for-crazy-low-pric/">grab one of those iPhone games</a> instead -- that's a great sale, too.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/02/gog-offers-community-favorites-for-half-off-this-weekend/">GOG offers community favorites for half off this weekend</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 02 Oct 2010 15:00:00 EST. Sometimes, we wonder what it would be like if versions of ourselves from the past could be magically transported to today and have their minds blown by all the technological advances in video gaming technology. We have a feeling that they'd be disinterested in our "movement controllers" and "big definition graphicals," and would instead become entranced by a new Flash game by <a href="http://www.exploding-rabbit.com/">Exploding Rabbit</a> that's sweeping the nation at terrifying velocities: <a href="http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/534416"><em>Super Mario Crossover</em></a>.<br />
<br />
The premise of the game is simple: It is the original <em>Super Mario Bros</em>., only your choice of playable characters isn't just limited to squat, Italian plumbers. You can also wreck Goombas while playing as Link, Mega Man, Samus, Simon Belmont or Bill (you know, from <em>Contra</em>). You could also just be Mario, but why would you do that, when you could be Bill from <em>Contra</em>? Stop being so silly.<br />

The best thing about Interplay having <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/17/interplay-still-out-of-money/">one foot</a> in the grave is the easy access it has to all the corpses in the cemetery. Having already cast a resurrection spell on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/13/interplay-resurrecting-stonekeep-on-wiiware/"><em>Stonekeep</em></a> and <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/16/interplay-bringing-clayfighter-to-wiiware-and-dsiware/">Clayfighter</a>, </em>the publisher now looks to bring classic 3D shooter <em><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Descent_(video_game)">Descent</a></em> to WiiWare this Fall. <br />
<br />
Interplay CEO Herv&eacute; Caen calls the disorienting game's reorientation on Wii an "exciting move," noting that "<em>Descent</em> remains the most popular 1080&ordm; 3D blasting game." The task of translating all that super-hot 3D to WiiWare will fall to independent studio G1M2, which previously worked on portollections like <em>Data East Arcade Classics</em> for Wii and <em>Metal Slug PC Collection</em>. <br />
<br />
Also, now that we're revisiting <em>Descent</em>, aren't we halfway to a <em>Descent: Freespace</em> revival? Everyone, say "yes."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/15/finally-wiiware-gets-a-descent-game/">Finally, WiiWare gets a Descent game</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 15 Apr 2010 18:45:00 EST. The increasingly popular game-trading service <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/goozex">Goozex</a> is <a href="http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/retro-game-trading-added-to-goozex-service-89540882.html">expanding its capabilities</a> to encompass the game platforms of yesteryear. New to the site is an option to trade NES, SNES, Nintendo 64, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Genesis, Sega CD, and Atari 2600 amongst the site's growing user base. Sadly, there's still no support for our precious Virtual Boy. Now we'll never be able to get our hands on that copy of <em>Teleroboxer</em> we've always dreamed of owning.<br />
<br />
There's already a ton of games from each platform <a href="http://www.goozex.com/trading/asp/homepage.asp">up for trading on Goozex</a> right now. Like, <em>good</em> games. Not the nine pathetic copies of <em>WCW Mayhem</em> which comprise your local used games store's N64 selection.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/31/goozex-now-accepts-snes-genesis-and-other-retro-game-trades/">Goozex now accepts SNES, Genesis and other retro game trades</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 31 Mar 2010 19:40:00 EST. According to a recent <a href="http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/movies/2010/03/space-invaders-movie-midway-marlowe.html">report from the L.A. Times</a>, Warner Bros. is in talks with Japanese game developer Taito to secure the rights for a film adaptation of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/space-invaders"><em>Space Invaders</em></a>. The Times speculates the film would be a big-budget action-blockbuster, helmed by prolific producers of big-budget action-blockbusters, such as Mark Gordon, Jason Blum and Guymon Casady.<br />
<br />
In other news, we're planning on doing our own version of <em>Space Invaders</em> pretty soon, only it will be about us, attempting to invade outer space, because we don't want to live on this <em>stupid, terrible planet</em> anymore.<br />

One of the best things about digital distribution is how rapidly it can attend to a sudden, nostalgic urge. Classic PC game purveyor <a href="http://www.gog.com">GoG.com</a> has decided to reward rampant inpatients by offering <a href="http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/sanitarium"><em>Sanitarium</em></a> for download -- right this instant. The point-and-click classic comes to your hard drive for $9.99 and free of DRM. GoG has also included the game's soundtrack as a free downloadable bonus.<br />
<br />
If you're going to spend <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/modern-warfare-2"><em>today</em></a> playing an old adventure game, we can't imagine a more apt choice than <em>Sanitarium</em>, a tale of one man struggling to escape a world gone mad.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/10/sanitarium-now-available-on-gog-com/">Sanitarium now available on GoG.com</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 10 Nov 2009 23:29:00 EST. <div align="left">Funcom's <em>The Longest Journey </em>is widely regarded as one of the best point-and-click adventures ever made -- it has an impressive <a href="http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/pc/longestjourney?q=the%20longest%20journey">metascore of 91</a> -- and can now be obtained by making the <em>very </em>short journey to the website of retro-ware purveyor <a href="http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/the_longest_journey">GOG.com</a>. $9.99 is the cost of embarking on the <em>Journey</em>, which, unfortunately, is only available for Windows XP / Vista (this is strong incentive to use <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boot_Camp_%28software%29">Boot Camp</a>, Mac users).<br /><br />We're not sure what exactly is behind the recent resurgence of classic adventure games -- what with many from LucasArts' catalog <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/08/lucasarts-classics-now-on-steam-priced-wisely/">appearing on Steam</a> and Telltale's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/tales-of-monkey-island">salvaging of <em>Monkey Island</em></a> (not to mention the excellent, multiplatform <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/the-secret-of-monkey-island/">remake of the first game</a>) -- but if there were a floating dialog tree in front of us right now, we'd click "Why yes, we quite like the trend. Please continue."</div>

LucasArts tells us that the version of <em>The Last Crusade</em> that will be put on Steam is a "previously unreleased version" with "even more bugfixes" than the original CD-ROM re-release, along with a "Tandy 1000 sound engine." As for <em>LOOM</em> and <em>Atlantis</em>, you'll be seeing the CD-ROM "talkie" versions for both on Steam.<br /><br /><em>The Dig</em> was CD-ROM only, and the other six titles being released on Wednesday only had one version. <em>The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition</em> is a special case - the remastered version is obviously new, but you can switch back and forth between the "Special Edition" and the original. That "original" release is in fact the CD-ROM version of the game, not the floppy disk version, in case you were wondering.<br /><br />Also of note: the copy protection system for both <em>LOOM</em> and <em>The Last Crusade</em> was to include an add-in - the "Book of Patterns" and "Grail Diary" respectively - that would have to be referenced while playing the game (take <em>that</em>, pirates!). LucasArts tells us they'll have PDF versions of both, so fret not, Adventure Gamer. It's your week!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/06/lucasarts-steam-debut-includes-previously-unreleased-version-of/">LucasArts' Steam debut includes previously unreleased version of The Last Crusade</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 06 Jul 2009 16:30:00 EST. Games have come a long way since joystick jockeys first spent hours dropping quarters into <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/space-invaders">Space Invaders</a></em>. Now on the heels of <em>Space Invaders Extreme</em>'s <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/04/this-wednesday-zombie-wranglers-arkanoid-and-space-invaders/">XBLA debut</a>, series' creator Tomohiro Nishikado has spoken out on the state of games today, observing that originality has suffered despite advances in technology.<br /><br />"I think the focus on unique concepts and gameplay has waned with the evolution of technology," commented Nishikado in a <a href="http://content.usatoday.com/communities/gamehunters/post/2009/05/66479041/1">recent interview</a>. While the iconic game designer praised new tech for allowing developers to create most anything they can imagine, he called out the industry for churning out "replicated gameplay formats and concepts," adding that "people are growing tired of playing the same thing." We'd be hard pressed to argue the point, though with games like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/noby-noby-boy"><em>Noby Noby Boy</em></a> and <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/noby-noby-boy">Rhythm Heaven</a></em> (a game Nishikado calls "excellent"), we still think there is a spark of originality out there. What about you?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/08/space-invaders-father-nishikado-calls-todays-games-improved-re/">Space Invaders father Nishikado calls today's games improved, recycled</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 08 May 2009 08:45:00 EST. After spending some quality time <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/28/joystiq-visits-funspot-and-the-american-classic-arcade-museum/#continued">perusing the classic arcade collection</a> amassed by the FunSpot and the American Classic Arcade Museum, we had a chance to speak with one of the museum's founders, Gary Vincent.<br /><br />An employee at <a href="http://www.funspotnh.com">FunSpot</a> since the '80s, Gary was instrumental in creating an environment where classic arcade machines were preserved for future generations. Sitting next to the mini-golf course that helped to launch FunSpot in the early 1950s, we discussed the origins of the museum, how technology has both helped and hurt the arcade scene and the process of bringing a classic back to life.<br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/funspot-american-classics-videogame-museum/">FunSpot / American Classic Arcade Museum</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/funspot-american-classics-videogame-museum/#1522388"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/04/111fspot-entrance_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/funspot-american-classics-videogame-museum/#1522393"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/04/11fspot-sign_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/funspot-american-classics-videogame-museum/#1522389"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/04/111fspot-sloganmat_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/funspot-american-classics-videogame-museum/#1522392"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/04/11fspot-museummotto_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/funspot-american-classics-videogame-museum/#1522391"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/04/11fspot-classicssign_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/30/joystiq-interview-gary-vincent-co-founder-of-the-american-clas/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Joystiq Interview: Gary Vincent, co-founder of the American Classic Arcade Museum</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/30/joystiq-interview-gary-vincent-co-founder-of-the-american-clas/">Joystiq Interview: Gary Vincent, co-founder of the American Classic Arcade Museum</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 30 Apr 2009 20:00:00 EST. We're used to winning our concert tickets by being the ninth caller or answering obscure trivia (the kind that only someone with a pillow shaped like the singer would know). The band <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/fall-out-boy">Fall Out Boy</a>, however, has other plans. The Illinois rockers recently rolled out a faithful parody of edutainment classic <em>The Oregon Trail</em> for fans to play for a chance to score passes to the band's latest North America tour.<br /><br />The game, appropriately titled <a href="http://www.friendsorenemies.com/cp/fobtrail/"><em>Fall Out Boy Trail</em></a>, sets players upon a long and arduous tour that mixes together original elements, such as rationing food (band mates need delicious McNuggets and Vitamin Water to stay healthy) with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero"><em>Guitar Hero</em></a>-style minigames that test even the quickest fingers. Unfortunately, our attempts to reach the end of the tour thus far have been felled by dehydration, constipation or the occasional zombie surfer. Still, as fun as it is the watch the pixelated band suffer at our hands, we're just as interested to read your misadventures with the alternative rock quartet in the comments below.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/90125-Fall-Out-Boy-Hits-The-Oregon-Trail">The Escapist</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/13/fall-out-boy-goes-on-oregon-trail-dies-of-starvation/">Fall Out Boy goes on Oregon Trail, dies of starvation</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 13 Mar 2009 08:30:00 EST. All too often when mixing genres, the results - like that Mountain Dew left over from last night - fall flat. However, one enterprising forum-goer has has defied convention (and warmed our hearts), successfully marrying classic <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/lucasarts">LucasArts</a> adventure games with our wall's longstanding desire to be covered in nostalgia. <br />
<br />
The results consist of several beautiful posters, most based on original artwork lifted from an era when LucasArts wasn't afraid to point <em>and</em> click, including Tim Schafer and Dave Grossman masterpieces, <em>The Secret of Monkey Island</em> and <em>Day of the Tentacle</em>. Designed to be printed and hung, we can't think of a better way to hide that unsightly crack above your bed.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/04/classic-lucasarts-artwork-turned-into-movie-posters/">Classic LucasArts artwork turned into movie posters</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 04 Feb 2009 08:00:00 EST. Bad news for anyone who wants a new version of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cobra_Triangle"><em>Cobra Triangle</em></a>. It seems that Rare isn't looking to bring back any <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Banjo-Kazooie/">more</a> of its classic franchises "at the moment," according to Senior Animator Elissa Miller. In an interview with Britain's 360 Gamer (<a href="http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=197542">re-reported by CVG</a>), Miller explained "we've always got to have a reason to revive a franchise, we don't do games just for the sake of them." Fair enough, but really, if you just wanted to make a new <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snake_Rattle_%27n%27_Roll"><em>Snake, Rattle 'n' Roll</em></a> just for the sake of making it, well, we wouldn't really mind. The <span style="font-style: italic;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/05/band-brothers-dx-introduces-new-ways-to-embarass-yourself-in-pub/">Band Brothers DX</a> </span>website lists all the jammable tracks available in the rhythm title, including both downloadable and in-game songs. Since the list is in Japanese, we did our best to translate (read: search the internet for a translation), which we've posted after the break.<br /><br />For classical music lovers (like this blogger), the in-game song list is like a piece of cake wrapped in brownie batter. Everyone else may be a wee bit disappointed, though, as the tracks only include five J-pop songs among a plethora of Mozart and the like. To keep it interesting, the classical songs are remixed in different styles, like tango, Eurobeat, pop, jazz, and more. Some unique combinations include a reggae version of Beethoven's "Path&eacute;tique Sonata" and a Famicom version of Schubert's "The Trout" (click <a href="http://youtube.com/watch?v=klZYv-f9kCE">here</a> and <a href="http://youtube.com/watch?v=bhOdXv8330o">here</a> to listen to them in their original classical styles).<br /><br />The list of downloadable songs is much more J-poppy, however, offering tracks like <a href="http://youtube.com/watch?v=C8yn5rps7_o">"Flavor of Life"</a> by Utada Hikaru, which is the recurring theme of J-drama <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/29/ds-chooses-boys-over-flowers/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Hana Yori Dango</span></a>. There are also a handful of anime songs to help tickle your J-fetish.<br /><br />If you want to see both of the translated song lists for <span style="font-style: italic;">Band Brothers DX</span>, just click on past the break.<br /><br />

... and it's going to get it! February's speculation after <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/14/esrb-throws-the-gauntlet-rating-down/"><em>Gauntlet</em> appeared on the ESRB's website</a> has become fact: Eidos and Backbone Entertainment are bringing the classic to the DS. But let's get the best news out of the way up front -- <em>Gauntlet </em>has always been known for awesome multiplayer action, and the DS will continue that tradition. Not only will you be able to throw down with your friends using local wireless, <em>Gauntlet</em> will also support multiplayer over WiFi. They've even thrown in voice chat to make adventuring easier (and potentially more fun). Of course, there's also a single player mode, for those times when you just can't wait for everyone to get together. <br /><br /><em>Gauntlet</em> will <strike>come into rotation for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/category/game-night/">Game Night</a></strike> be released in late June. Start hoarding funds (and <em>food</em>) now.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/06/ds-needs-hack-and-slash-badly/">DS needs hack and slash badly</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 06 Apr 2008 12:00:00 EST. However, in the absence of an official press release like the one that just <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/27/square-confirms-awesome-trio-of-titles-for-europe/">came out</a> for Europe, we could use all the confirmation we can get. Two recent bits of information help cement the notion that these games really <em>will</em> come out.<br /><br />First, <em>Arkanoid</em> has finally joined <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/03/space-invaders-extreme-shows-up-on-esrb-database-along-with-misc/"><em>Invaders</em></a> as a game rated by the <a href="http://www.esrb.org/ratings/search.jsp">ESRB</a>. The E rating has finally shown up on the ratings board's website, indicating that it is planned for release. Second, Keiji Fujita, the sole Taito rep in the U.S., confirmed it directly in a Gamasutra interview. "<em>Arkanoid</em> was released last year in Japan, and <em>Space Invaders Extreme</em> [was released in February]. In fact, these two games will be published by Square Enix in the United States." Since they're being published by Square Enix, though, Fujita has nothing to do with them -- with the only Taito console games to come out this year.<br /><br />If we want more Taito games (and we do), then we should maybe consider buying at least one of these two. Fujita said that the future of Taito games, at least as published by <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Square-Enix/">Square Enix</a>, hinges on the success of <em>Invaders</em> and <em>Arkanoid.</em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/31/downtrodden-taito-u-s-employee-confirms-arkanoid-and-space-inva/">Downtrodden Taito U.S. employee confirms Arkanoid and Space Invaders</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 31 Mar 2008 14:15:00 EST. I'm not a <em>Street Fighter</em> fanatic, but I've enjoyed the series over the years. So with this casual approach, I recently tried the XBLA beta of <em>Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix</em>, available soon to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/12/street-fighter-ii-hd-beta-bundled-with-commando-3/">buyers of <em>Commando 3</em></a> on XBLA. The full version will be out this Summer for that system and PSN.<br /><br />Frankly, I don't even remember which character I played. It doesn't help that my only choices were Ken and Ryu, who have nearly the same moves. My helpful opponent reminded me how to do some of the special attacks; I was far out of practice on the Hurricane Kick, but I could throw fireballs right away.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/super-street-fighter-ii-turbo-hd-remix/">Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/super-street-fighter-ii-turbo-hd-remix/#1167186"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/11/sc1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/super-street-fighter-ii-turbo-hd-remix/#1110108"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/10/super-sf2-turbo-hd-remix-1021-02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/super-street-fighter-ii-turbo-hd-remix/#1110107"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/10/super-sf2-turbo-hd-remix-1021-18_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/super-street-fighter-ii-turbo-hd-remix/#1110106"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/10/super-sf2-turbo-hd-remix-1021-11_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/super-street-fighter-ii-turbo-hd-remix/#1110105"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/10/super-sf2-turbo-hd-remix-1021-05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/13/joystiq-hands-on-street-fighter-ii-hd-xbla-psn/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Joystiq hands-on: Street Fighter II HD (XBLA/PSN)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/13/joystiq-hands-on-street-fighter-ii-hd-xbla-psn/">Joystiq hands-on: Street Fighter II HD (XBLA/PSN)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 13 Mar 2008 13:30:00 EST. Well, it seems the rhythm-action game is the platformer for the new millennium. Case in point: Eidos' just-announced <em><a href="http://www.prnewswire.com/cgi-bin/stories.pl?ACCT=109&amp;STORY=/www/story/03-13-2008/0004773216&amp;EDATE=">Looney Tunes: Cartoon Conductor</a>, </em>coming to the Nintendo DS this June.<br /><br />Players will use the stylus to conduct classic tunes from the, er, 'toons, and then be "rewarded with clips from favorite Looney Tunes cartoon moments." Bugs Bunny, Porky Pig, Daffy Duck, Sylvester the Cat and Tweety will be on hand for a game designed for "absolutely everybody who enjoys simple but addictive gameplay." And who doesn't enjoy that? The <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/29/indie-mac-title-return-to-dark-castle-still-hasnt-returned/">delays</a> have gone on for <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Return_To_Dark_Castle">so long</a> that Mac gamers might see this as their personal <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/duke-nukem"><em>Duke Nukem Forever</em></a>. Teases picked up again <a href="http://www.tuaw.com/2008/02/01/in-pursuit-of-the-black-knight-again/">a month ago</a>, and the game's <a href="http://superhappyfunfun.com/games/gam_returntodc.html">website</a> uses caps and italics to stress that it'll release "<em>very, VERY soon</em>."<br /><br />Even if the game never ships, the just-released <a href="http://superhappyfunfun.com/games/demos/DarkCastle3Demo.dmg">demo</a> is worth a quick play. It feels almost identical to its Mac <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dark_Castle">gaming</a> <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beyond_Dark_Castle">canon</a> ancestors, with the same sharp controls. The old sound effects we remember from 1986 and 1987 are back. And while we would have lightly updated some of the basics -- like rats that disappear after being hit with a rock -- the unchanged action holds up surprisingly well.<br /><br />Look, <em>Return to Dark Castle</em>, stop being such a tease. Even after all these years, your demo makes us miss you again. Come back <em>very VERY soon</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/01/return-to-dark-castle-demo-returns/">Return to Dark Castle demo returns</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 01 Mar 2008 15:30:00 EST. But does it make fiscal sense as well as organizational sense? To find out, the folks at <a href="http://www.vintagecomputing.com/index.php/archives/416">Vintage Computing &amp; Gaming</a> compared the price of current Virtual Console selections to the going rate for the same classic carts on eBay.<br /><br />The results, unsurprisingly, showed an average savings of about 50 percent over the eBay price across the VC library. Sure, you're paying a few extra dollars for ultra-common clunkers like <em>Double Dribble</em>, but you're saving nearly $200 on ultra-rare games like <em>Bonk 3: Bonk's Big Adventure</em>. In fact, Turbo-Grafx fans can save roughly 75% buying their library on the Wii rather than eBay.<br /><br />Of course, as VC&amp;G points out, games bought for the Virtual Console have functionally zero resale value, so those interested in collectability should shell out the extra money. Those interested in actually playing the games, however ...<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/31/calculating-the-virtual-consoles-savings-rate/">Calculating the Virtual Console's savings rate</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 31 Jan 2008 14:00:00 EST. So, you think your classic gaming collection is pretty complete, huh? You think your unopened <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vectrex">Vectrex</a> and mint-condition <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fairchild_Channel_F">Fairchild Channel F</a> make you a true collector, do ya? Trust us, your collection means nothing unless and until you own your own <a href="http://www.adventurevision.com/">Entex Adventure Vision</a>.<br /><br />Released for about two seconds back in 1982 (only about 10,000 were produced), the LED-based tabletop system is <a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&amp;item=170187438707">currently being sold</a> on eBay complete with all four available games for a "Buy it Now" price of $5500. Amazingly, the auction has been up for nearly three days with no buyers, seemingly showing that people would rather put a down payment on a car than play a monochrome, 150x40 resolution version of <em>Defender.</em> There's no accounting for taste, we suppose ...<br /><br />[Thanks, Steven R.]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/23/extremely-rare-adventure-vision-system-up-on-ebay/">Extremely rare Adventure Vision system up on eBay</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 23 Jan 2008 14:15:00 EST. That seems poised to change, though, as the <em>New York Times</em> <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2007/12/10/business/10slots.html?ex=1354942800&amp;en=a5a3b838b0a1a09b&amp;ei=5088&amp;partner=rssnyt&amp;emc=rss">reports</a> slot machine manufacturers are adding skill-based gaming elements to the one-armed bandits in an effort to attract new players. "We can't just make a slot thinking about the 55-year-old lady who comes to the casino a few times a month," said Rob Bone, marketing director for WMS Gaming. "We need to appeal to new buckets of players, or we'll die."<br /><br /><a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2007/12/10/business/10slots.html?ex=1354942800&amp;en=a5a3b838b0a1a09b&amp;ei=5088&amp;partner=rssnyt&amp;emc=rss">To that end, Bally Technologies has signed a deal with </a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/atari">Atari</a> to make machines based on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/pong"><em>Pong</em> </a>and <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/breakout">Breakout</a>, </em>which let you play simplified versions of the games during a bonus round. Don't get too excited, though -- your gaming skills won't let you break the bank at Vegas. As the <em>Times</em> points out, "skill will take a player only so far as these machines are still calibrated to pay out less money than they take in." That's OK though ... back in the '80s we put money into these games without expecting to get <em>any</em> money back.<br /><br />[Thanks Vlad]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/11/slot-machines-to-become-more-like-video-games/">Slot machines to become more like video games</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 11 Dec 2007 14:15:00 EST. <br />Punny headlines aside, <a href="http://www.wiishaft.com/">The Shaft</a> provides <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/classic+controller/">yet another way</a> to control all those Virtual Console downloads clogging up your Wii menu. The wired, 6" x 11" arcade-style stick from previously unheard-of Overline Gaming merges the proud tradition and size of arcade fighting sticks with the svelte, plastic styling of the Wii. It sports analog control for Nintendo 64 games as well as digital "resting points" in the eight primary directions for older-school gaming. Pre-orders are currently being taken for white, pink and black version for mid-December shipment -- $39.95 for one or $69.95 for two.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/11/12/wii-shaft-the-arcade-style-joystick-for-virtual-console-titles/">Engadget</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/14/overline-gives-wii-owners-the-shaft/">Overline gives Wii owners "The Shaft"</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 14 Nov 2007 13:56:00 EST. The classic <em>Breakout</em> clone has already shown up on <a href="http://www.mobygames.com/game/arkanoid">over a dozen classic computer systems</a>, as well as the NES and SNES. But the new version recently revealed for the Nintendo DS has an important leg up over the competition -- a special controller that mimics the original arcade game's rotating knob.<br /><br />The first portable version of the game (not counting <a href="http://psp-news.dcemu.co.uk/arkanoid.shtml">unofficial homebrews</a>), <em>Arkanoid DS</em> will include an attachable knob controller that plugs into the DS' Game Boy Advance slot, according to a <a href="http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3161671">1up translation</a> of a Famitsu story. The game will also have 140 stages and a quest mode focused on completing specific tasks, according to the story.<br /><br />The game is slated for a December release in Japan, and while a North American release hasn't yet been announced, the <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Atari-DSATAR-742725264182-Retro-Classics/dp/B00076OMOW/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/102-7620037-7560167?ie=UTF8&amp;s=videogames&amp;qid=1185996861&amp;sr=1-1">bevy</a> of <a href="http://www.amazon.com/D3-Publisher-879278320024-Break-All/dp/B000F7MKRY">arcade</a> <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Konami-Classics-Arcade-Hits/dp/B000L422JW/ref=sr_1_1/102-7620037-7560167?ie=UTF8&amp;s=videogames&amp;qid=1185996782&amp;sr=1-1">classics</a> already on the system makes it seem likely.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/01/arkanoid-ds-to-include-attachable-knob-controller/">Arkanoid DS to include attachable knob controller</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 01 Aug 2007 17:23:00 EST. You've beaten all the games on Nightmare without cheats? Played every <a href="http://www.doomwadstation.com/">fan-made WAD </a>you could get your hands on? You're listening to a megamix of <em>Doom</em> MIDIs right now, aren't you? Well we've got some tunes here that we can guarantee aren't on your playlist.<br /><br />Doom co-creator John Romero has <a href="http://rome.ro/2007/06/doom-archaeology.html">posted</a> these unreleased tracks on his blog with the warning that, much like deleted scenes on DVDs, "there's a reason these weren't released - they're not very good." And he's right -- with a few exceptions, the tracks are overly repetitive and a bit wonky. Still, if you worship anything and everything <em>Doom</em>-related, then, uh, I guess you should start worshiping ... because these are definitely<em> Doom</em>-related. That's roughly what it will take to open bidding on the <a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/The-Holy-Grail-of-a-SEGA-Saturn-Collection_W0QQitemZ300119002813QQihZ020QQcategoryZ3665QQcmdZViewItem#ebayphotohosting">mother of all Sega Saturn collections</a> on eBay right now. Besides 256 games from all three regions, including rarities like <em>Radiant Silvergun</em> and <em>Panzer Dragoon Saga</em>, the auction includes three actual consoles (including a white one that can play burned games and VCDs), six controllers, memory cards, light guns, multitaps, a steering wheel and even a mouse. That's a lot of defunct Sega goodness right there.<br /><br />If you're still balking at the price, consider that the winning bid includes free shipping to the U.S. from Australia. Because really, if you're gonna spend thousands of dollars on a classic system collection, the shipping is what will put you over the edge of reasonable expenditure.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/14/every-saturn-game-you-could-possibly-want-and-then-some/">Every Saturn game you could possibly want, and then some</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 14 Jun 2007 20:23:00 EST. At a recent EA event, it was apparent that the title should get the recognition it deserves soon enough, with its June release.<br /><br />Based approximately on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/simcity">SimCity 3000</a>, <em>SimCity DS</em> seemed about as complicated as the most recent versions of the title. While the graphics represent a throwback to earlier <em>SimCity</em> games, the core gameplay is current. The title looks like it'll be a great match for portable simulation fans because of the touchscreen interface.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/simcity-ds/">SimCity DS</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/simcity-ds/#242087"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/05/rocket-blast-off-2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/simcity-ds/#242086"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/05/ufo-2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/simcity-ds/#242085"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/05/simtown_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/simcity-ds/#242084"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/05/advisoradvice01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/simcity-ds/#242083"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/05/rocket-10_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/15/joystiq-impressions-simcity-ds/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Joystiq impressions: SimCity DS</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/15/joystiq-impressions-simcity-ds/">Joystiq impressions: SimCity DS</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 15 May 2007 05:05:00 EST. <p>We've previously seen <em>Afterburner </em>and <em>Lemmings</em> re-tooled, to make them suitable for our favorite portable. While both of those titles are enjoyable, there is still a ton of gold to be mined from the past, then reshaped into something grand and new. With that in mind, I thought it we'd do a public service, and remind publishers of some of those titles. Here they are in no particular order:</p>
<ul>
    <li><em>Bionic Commando</em></li>
    <li><em>Contra</em></li>
    <li><em>Lunar</em></li>
    <li><em>Streets of Rage</em></li>
    <li><em>Splatter House</em></li>
    <li><em>Bonk</em></li>
    <li><em>Strider</em></li>
    <li><em>Double Dribble</em></li>
    <li><em>Golden Axe</em></li>
    <li><em>Shinobi</em></li>
    <li><em>Out of this World</em></li>
    <li><em>Zombie Ate My Neighbors</em></li>
</ul>
<p>Those are a few of the titles we'd like to see. But what does our opinion matter? Let us know what games we missed, or what classics you'd like to see resurrected on the PSP.</p>

In taking out the existing buttons, he replaced them with those snazzy <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=super+nintendo+entertainment+system">SNES</a> buttons you see above (he is in the UK). He says the mod only takes about an hour and is fairly easy to perform, allowing those of you with an extra pad sitting around to perform this mod yourself. Just don't try and put the d-pad in there, it won't fit right.<br />For those of you without the time to register over there, head past the break for more pictures.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/08/simple-mod-brings-classic-back-to-the-classic-controller/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Simple mod brings classic back to the Classic Controller</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/08/simple-mod-brings-classic-back-to-the-classic-controller/">Simple mod brings classic back to the Classic Controller</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 08 May 2007 09:35:00 EST. Licenses? Who needs licenses? Not 2K Sports, who today <a href="http://ir.take2games.com/ReleaseDetail.cfm?ReleaseID=239570">announced</a> a massive lineup of classic football stars would grace <a href="http://www.2ksports.com/games/football2k8/"><span style="font-style: italic;">All-Pro Football 2K8</span></a>. While EA holds the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2004/12/14/ea-gets-nfl-its-in-the-game/">exclusive rights</a> to use NFL trademarks and current player likenesses, 2K has lined up practically every retired player you've ever heard of, and probably a few you haven't, for the roster of their <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/01/31/nfl2k-rises-from-grave-as-all-pro-football-2k8/">re-entry</a> into the football simulation market.<br /><br />The list of players is presented on the <a href="http://www.2ksports.com/games/football2k8/">game page</a> is in a super-annoying Flash format, but intrepid Joystiq tipster Mugginns has compiled them all in an easy to scan text list, organized by position and alphabetical order. Check it out after the jump.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/26/2k-sports-announces-classic-all-pro-football-roster/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>2K Sports announces classic All-Pro Football roster</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/26/2k-sports-announces-classic-all-pro-football-roster/">2K Sports announces classic All-Pro Football roster</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 26 Apr 2007 20:25:00 EST. The German Unterhaltungssoftware Selbstkontrolle (USK) ratings board recently <a href="http://www.usk.de/64_Pruefdatenbank.htm?s=search&amp;title=prince+of+persia&amp;s.x=0&amp;s.y=0&amp;s=search">tested</a> a game called <em>Prince of Persia Classic</em> -- it received a +12 years of age rating. The Germans were being kind giving it that rating considering the difficulty level of the original game; they're sparing young gamers a lot of grief. Players who are old enough -- or unlocked this classic in their copy of <em>Prince of Persia: Sands of Time --</em> know what we're talking about.<br /><br />We wait to see when the American ESRB rates the game to confirm that it's not some kind of Europe-only XBLA exclusive. Having the original <em>Prince of Persia</em> on XBLA will show those young whippersnappers how good and easy they've had it since the <em>Sands of Time</em>.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/2007/04/12/original-price-of-persia-on-xbla/">Xbox 360 Fanboy</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/13/prince-of-persia-rated-by-germans-for-xbla/">Prince of Persia rated by Germans for XBLA</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 13 Apr 2007 03:00:00 EST.
