While the website for <em>Bloodforge</em> does a good job describing the upcoming XBLA game from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/climax">Climax</a> - promising "a brutal combat system, stunning art style, and a deeply compelling story" - it does very little to explain exactly what a bloodforge <em>is</em>.<br />
<br />
Is it a forge fueled by blood? Is it a forge that produces blood? Like, do you <em>make</em> blood with it? We'll have to wait to find out, it seems, as even a brief teaser trailer and a handful of screenshots do little to elucidate things. Hopefully Microsoft won't keep us hanging too long before revealing the truth (or the game's release date, for that matter).<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/bloodforge-xbla/">Bloodforge (XBLA)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/bloodforge-xbla/#4547811"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/10/01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/bloodforge-xbla/#4547812"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/10/02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/bloodforge-xbla/#4547813"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/10/03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/bloodforge-xbla/#4547814"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/10/04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/22/bloodforge-coming-to-xbla-looks-bloody/">Bloodforge coming to XBLA, looks bloody</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 22 Oct 2011 05:30:00 EST. It's a double-header of fast moving objects on Xbox Live Arcade this week. First up is <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/things-on-wheels"><em>Things on Wheels</em></a>, an R/C racer of miniaturized yet epic proportions, complete with four-player online and offline play. Next is <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/rocket-knight"><em>Rocket Knight</em></a>, whose fast moving object is ... <em>a possum with a jet pack</em>. It may sound weird, but it's a <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rocket_Knight_Adventures">proven formula</a>.<br />
<br />
<em>Things on Wheels</em> will be available this Wednesday for 800<img alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" /> ($10); and <em>Rocket Knight</em> will set you back 1200<img alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" /> ($15).<br />

<br />
We're not sure what it is about this batch of screenshots for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/rocket-knight"><em>Rocket Knight</em></a> that fills us with such euphoria. Perhaps it's all of the pretty colors. Perhaps they remind us of the simpler days of our youth. Perhaps we've only recently realized how preposterous the concept of an opossum strapped to a rocket really is. Seriously, think about it. <em>Really</em> think about it. It makes <em>zero</em> sense.<br />

On <a href="http://www.facebook.com/rocketknight">Facebook</a>, Konami just announced precise US arrival dates for the airborne marsupial.<br />
<br />
PC and Xbox 360 owners will be able to download the game on May 12, while those looking to play on PS3 will have to wait until May 18 to join the fight against Axel Gear. But what's a six-day wait after the years spent anticipating a new <em>Rocket Knight</em>?<br />

<br />
Having played through the first couple of levels from this XBLA, PSN and Steam release, I can say that not a whole lot has changed from Sparkster's adventures of yore -- and that's a compliment. There must be something inherently difficult about capturing the feel of a 2D game using entirely polygons, since the number of remakes that have gotten it right far outnumber the successes. But, like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/bionic-commando-rearmed"><em>Bionic Commando: Rearmed</em></a> and even <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/street-fighter-4"><em>Street Fighter IV</em></a>, this snappy action platformer should feel like revisiting a childhood home for retro junkies.<br />

<a href="http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3178735">1UP</a> reports that the recently revealed <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/09/new-silent-hill-game/">"next Silent Hill" game</a> will not, in fact, be developed by <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Climax/">Climax</a>, which is fresh from the totally awesome <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/silent-hill-shattered-memories"><em>Silent Hill: Shattered Memories</em></a>. Instead, the lead has been taken by Vatra Games, a Czech studio whose only other credit is retro relaunch <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/09/rush-n-attack-ex-patriot-for-xbla-and-psn/"><em>Rush'N Attack: Ex-Patriot</em></a>, also announced on Friday.<br />
<br />
It's not that we think Vatra will do a bad job -- we frankly have no clue what they'll do. But we were so looking forward to seeing where Climax took the franchise after <em>Shattered Memories</em> that it's hard to not be a little deflated and, perhaps, even ... <em>shattered</em> by its absence.<br />
<br />
On a slightly more informative note, Vatra's <a href="http://www.vatragames.com/">official page</a> says it's working on two games for PS3, 360 and PC, so that likely gives an indication of the platforms on which the new <em>Silent Hill</em> will appear.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/12/new-silent-hill-in-the-hands-of-vatra-games/">New Silent Hill in the hands of Vatra Games</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 12 Apr 2010 10:55:00 EST. <small><em>click to rocket-size</em></small></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">We're going to level with you: There's not a lot of new info to be found in the latest batch of character art from Konami's upcoming reboot of <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/rocket-knight"><em>Rocket Knight</em></a>. The press release does mention a few of Sparkster's abilities. While most should be familiar to players -- wall ricochet jumps, etc -- one new addition is the "burst vortex," which can reflect projectiles back toward enemies. Beyond that, however, we're left only with images of Emperor Sweinhart and Sparkster's nemesis, Axel Gear, both of whom can be seen above. Konami has also released a high resolution version of Sparkster himself.<br />
<br />
Yes, it's not much but, when it comes to <em>Rocket Knight</em>, we'll take what we can get.<br />

We always suspected we had nothing in common with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/silent-hill-shattered-memories"><em>Silent Hill: Shattered Memories</em></a> developer <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Climax/">Climax</a>. We crave Coke, they prefer Pepsi. We swoon for Daniel Craig, they say George Lazenby is the best. We say tomato, they say ... well, that one works better when you say it out loud. Finally, though, we've found something we agree on: We both want them to make another <em>Silent Hill </em>game.<br />
<br />
Speaking with the UK's <a href="http://www.officialnintendomagazine.co.uk/article.php?id=14810">Official Nintendo Magazine</a>, lead designer Sam Barlow said, "For us we felt we've put our stamp on the series with <em>Shattered Memories</em> so we'd love the opportunity to do another one. So everybody go and buy it!"<br />
<br />
He's absolutely right, you should do that this moment. ... Hey! That's more common ground already.<br />

<div style="text-align: left;"><em><strong><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/halo-wars">Halo Wars</a></strong></em><br />
Say what you will about the game's simplicity, or the brevity of the single-player campaign, but Ensemble Studios absolutely nailed console real-time strategy with <em>Halo Wars</em>. The controls work beautifully, allowing for the kind of granular management required in RTS games, and yet they remain simple enough for almost anyone to get the hang of the game. Add great online multiplayer and it's one tasty proposition.<br />
<br />
Frankly, I was so addicted to the Skirmish mode when reviewing the game that it ate into my work hours. Remembering that makes it harder to face the fact that Ensemble was shuttered once work on the game was complete. I can only hope that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/17/robot-to-develop-further-halo-wars-content-new-ip/">Robot</a> is given the chance to further the series, or at least work the controls into an entirely new game.</div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/02/best-of-the-rest-richards-picks-of-2009/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Best of the Rest: Richard's Picks of 2009</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/02/best-of-the-rest-richards-picks-of-2009/">Best of the Rest: Richard's Picks of 2009</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 02 Jan 2010 13:00:00 EST. It looks like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/12/retailers-move-silent-hill-shattered-memories-release-date-agai/">GameStop got it right</a>, as <a href="http://psp.ign.com/articles/104/1044570p1.html">IGN</a> reports that <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/silent-hill-shattered-memories"><em>Silent Hill: Shattered Memories</em></a> will arrive on the Wii on December 8. The PS2 and PSP versions have yet to be given solid release dates, with Konami promising to reveal further information at a later time. Given the Wii version's proximity to the holiday shopping season, it sounds like PSP and PS2 players can consider their sanity safe until 2010 -- though not long after, considering <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/26/tgs-2009-hands-on-silent-hill-shattered-memories-psp/#continued">our experience with the PSP version</a> at Tokyo Game Show.<br /> <br /> Wii owners, on the other hand, should start preparing now by stocking up on flashlights, blankets and plenty of batteries. Just remember, so long as you're <em>completely covered</em> they can't get you. GameFly, whose dates tend to differ from official ones by a few days, lists the Wii game as being available November 26, but the PS2 and PSP versions on <a href="http://www.gamefly.com/RentalMediaTitleSearch/Search/?kw=silent+hill+shattered+memories&amp;sec=1&amp;Go=Submit">December 31</a>. <a href="http://www.walmart.com/search/search-ng.do?search_constraint=2636&amp;ic=48_0&amp;search_query=shattered+memories&amp;Find.x=0&amp;Find.y=0&amp;Find=Find">Wal-Mart's</a> dates put the Wii version at November 24 and the PlayStation games on Christmas Day (which is <em>probably</em> not the real ship date, on account of there not being any mail delivery that day). <br /><br />Basically, the game is coming out <em>later</em>. It's not in stores right this second. That's all we can say with any degree of certainty.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/silent-hill-shattered-memories/">Silent Hill: Shattered Memories (Wii)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/silent-hill-shattered-memories/#2063893"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/22_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/silent-hill-shattered-memories/#2063892"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/26_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/silent-hill-shattered-memories/#2063891"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/25_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/silent-hill-shattered-memories/#2063890"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/27_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/silent-hill-shattered-memories/#2063889"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/21_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Via <a href="http://kotaku.com/5379777/silent-hill-shattered-memories-enters-fog-of-delay">Kotaku</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/12/retailers-move-silent-hill-shattered-memories-release-date-agai/">Retailers move Silent Hill: Shattered Memories release date again</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 12 Oct 2009 21:00:00 EST. <strong>We wish for a million dollars!</strong><br />
<br />
...<br />
<br />
Well, after the return of classic adventure games -- and now <em>Sparkster</em> -- our magical roll of granted wishes was bound to come to an end. <a href="http://www.1up.com/do/previewPage?cId=3176349">1UP</a> and Konami have revealed a brand new game for the powerfully propelled opossum, set to debut on Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network and Steam in early 2010. The 2.5D sequel (not a remake!) comes 15 years after the last game, which is a period more wasteful than the gap between the original Star Trek TV series and the first feature film.<br />
<br />
Sorry, our nerd analogies flare up when we get excited. <br />
<br />
<div align="left"><em>Rocket Knight</em> (as the game is tentatively dubbed) is being developed by Climax, which previously worked with Konami producer Tomm Hulett on <em>Silent Hill: Origins</em>. The team is currently finishing up the promising <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/silent-hill-shattered-memories">Silent Hill: Shattered Memories</a></em>.<br />

<div align="left"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/konami">Konami</a> has released some new screens of the upcoming <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/silent-hill-shattered-memories"><em>Silent Hill: Shattered Memories</em></a>. The shots are looking pretty nice, and include some of the more Wii-centric features, like object manipulation and Harry's mobile phone. There's also a monster or two and the bloody snow seen above. Remember kids, never eat red snow.<br /><br />On another note, Konami has freshened up the game's logo. It's essentially the same, although the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/06/silent-hill-shattered-memories-also-heads-to-ps2-psp/">cheesy icicles </a>have (thankfully) been removed. Being that games are an expensive habit, we're always on the lookout for a decent savings. With that in mind, please direct your attention to <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Overlord-Dark-Legend-Nintendo-Wii/dp/B001P2IS3I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;s=videogames&amp;qid=1245910763&amp;sr=8-1">Amazon</a>, where you can pick up a copy of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/overlord-dark-legend"><em>Overlord: Dark Legend</em></a> for $36.99. That's $13.00 off the standard price of $49.99 and nothing to sneeze at. The game has been reviewed <a href="http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/wii/overlorddarklegend?q=overlord%20legend">fairly well</a> thus far and, at the very least, we can vouch for the charms of its PS3 and Xbox 360 brethren.<br /><br />If you like your games funny and evil, you might consider picking it up.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/overlord-dark-legend/">Overlord: Dark Legend</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/overlord-dark-legend/#1376302"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/ovlrddl7_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/overlord-dark-legend/#1376301"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/ovlrddl6_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/overlord-dark-legend/#1376300"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/ovlrddl4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/overlord-dark-legend/#1376299"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/ovlrddl5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/overlord-dark-legend/#1376298"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/ovlrddl3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/25/deal-watch-grab-overlord-dark-legend-for-37/">Deal watch: Grab Overlord: Dark Legend for $37</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 25 Jun 2009 13:05:00 EST. That's a good one," remarks <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/silent-hill-shattered-memories"><span style="font-style: italic;">Shattered Memories</span></a> producer Tomm Hulett, taking the complaints from the so-called "unreasonable" <span style="font-style: italic;">Silent Hill</span> fans in stride. Remaking -- or "re-imagining," rather -- a horror classic is no easy task, least of all when the leading platform's scariest trait is its abundance of minigames. Calling it a re-imagining seems appropriate, with familiar characters and themes returning in unfamiliar ways, but that belies the fact that the upcoming Wii title (PSP and PS2 versions are also en route) is the freshest and riskiest <span style="font-style: italic;">Silent Hill</span> game to come along in years.<br /> <br />Conveying an intense, unnerving experience in the din of E3 is like reciting a poem behind an airplane barreling down a runway. The packed show floor, filled with colossal sub-woofers and eccentric excessiveness, couldn't be a less ideal place to play a survival-horror title. And yet, despite the copious distractions and some truly awkward sensor bar placement, <span style="font-style: italic;">Silent Hill: Shattered Memories</span> managed to fool us -- if ever so briefly -- into thinking we were skulking around the world's least hospitable and most perplexing town. <br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/silent-hill-shattered-memories/">Silent Hill: Shattered Memories (Wii)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/silent-hill-shattered-memories/#2063893"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/22_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/silent-hill-shattered-memories/#2063892"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/26_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/silent-hill-shattered-memories/#2063891"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/25_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/silent-hill-shattered-memories/#2063890"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/27_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/silent-hill-shattered-memories/#2063889"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/21_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/08/hands-on-silent-hill-shattered-memories-wii/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Hands-on: Silent Hill: Shattered Memories (Wii)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/08/hands-on-silent-hill-shattered-memories-wii/">Hands-on: Silent Hill: Shattered Memories (Wii)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 08 Jun 2009 19:30:00 EST. Overlord Dark Legend is an all-new Wii adventure set in the fractured fantasy world of the dark lord and his minions. The game puts players in the steel shoes of a younger overlord in a more fractured fairy tale setting than those of the series proper.<br /><br />Despite Dark Legend taking the minion's debauchery down a notch (they don't get drunk, vomit or pee), the core evilness is still present in the adolescent Overlord. The title is still a "core" gamer's game, which is part of publisher <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/04/codemasters-wants-gamers-games-on-wii-finds-other-publisher/">Codemaster's strategy for the console</a>. For those who have never played an Overlord title before, Dark Legend brings the authentic experience in a new package.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/overlord-dark-legend/">Overlord: Dark Legend</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/overlord-dark-legend/#1376302"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/ovlrddl7_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/overlord-dark-legend/#1376301"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/ovlrddl6_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/overlord-dark-legend/#1376300"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/ovlrddl4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/overlord-dark-legend/#1376299"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/ovlrddl5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/overlord-dark-legend/#1376298"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/ovlrddl3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/08/hands-on-overlord-dark-legend/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Hands-on: Overlord Dark Legend</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/08/hands-on-overlord-dark-legend/">Hands-on: Overlord Dark Legend</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 08 Jun 2009 13:00:00 EST. <div align="left">Not even <em>Silent Hill</em> is afraid of the Wii's casual audience. Speaking to Joystiq during E3 2009, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/silent-hill-shattered-memories"><em>Silent Hill: Shattered Memories</em></a> producer Tomm Hulett described the game as being very much a true franchise entry (and we can attest to that!), but one that would enjoy the benefits of a wider audience and an intuitive control system on the Wii.<br /><br />"For the casual gamer, we say this like it's strange, but casual gamers go to horror movies," he explained. "There's a reason that we all started playing survival horror -- it was new and different and, 'Oh, it's like a scary movie that I play.'" According to Hulett the game's control system, which thrusts the Wiimote into the role of a flashlight, is intuitive enough to accommodate ... your mom. "I've had my mom try it out and she only plays <em>Animal Crossing</em>, but she can walk around as Harry Mason and run from creatures. It's really easy to pick up and play. If there's a casual gamer who enjoys going to the movies and seeing <em>The Ring</em>, they can go to the store afterward and buy <em>Silent Hill</em> and have a horror experience at home."<br /><br />Well, as long as they don't pick up <em>The Room</em>. That's a different kind of horror experience at home.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/silent-hill-shattered-memories/">Silent Hill: Shattered Memories (Wii)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/silent-hill-shattered-memories/#2063893"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/22_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/silent-hill-shattered-memories/#2063892"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/26_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/silent-hill-shattered-memories/#2063891"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/25_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/silent-hill-shattered-memories/#2063890"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/27_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/silent-hill-shattered-memories/#2063889"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/21_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /></div>

<br />Although it was probably the most impressive looking game shown at Konami's Gamer's Night 2009 event last week, the "Wii-imagining" of <em>Silent Hill</em>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/silent-hill-shattered-memories"><em>Silent Hill: Shattered Memories</em></a>, was sadly not playable. It's a shame, too, considering how natural the game's motion controls appeared in the on-stage demo; seeing them in action made us really want to <em>try them</em>. <br /><br />We were left to watch the footage of the Climax-developed title and imagine what it will be like, roaming the streets of the snow-covered town, flashlight in hand and camera phone at the ready to catch the unexplainable and unnerving. Fortunately, it was a fairly meaty bit of footage that provided a good idea of what to expect from the game when we finally do get our hands on it.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/silent-hill-shattered-memories/">Silent Hill: Shattered Memories (Wii)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/silent-hill-shattered-memories/#2063893"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/22_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/silent-hill-shattered-memories/#2063892"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/26_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/silent-hill-shattered-memories/#2063891"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/25_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/silent-hill-shattered-memories/#2063890"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/27_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/silent-hill-shattered-memories/#2063889"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/21_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/13/joystiq-impressions-silent-hill-shattered-memories/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Joystiq impressions: Silent Hill: Shattered Memories</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/13/joystiq-impressions-silent-hill-shattered-memories/">Joystiq impressions: Silent Hill: Shattered Memories</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 13 Apr 2009 13:30:00 EST. IGN has posted a <a href="http://wii.ign.com/articles/971/971316p1.html">preview</a> of <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/silent-hill-shattered-memories"><em>Silent Hill: Shattered Memories</em></a> so glowing, you'd swear it was radioactive. Aside from the effusive praise, there are a few details to be gleaned from the eyes-on preview. The psyche profile system revealed earlier this week is further fleshed out by the preview. Lead character Harry Mason will actually start the game in a psychiatrist's office, where players will have to fill out a form. The choices you make on the form, as well as other choices in the game, will affect other parts of the game.<br /><br />Harry's phone acts as the hub of all the game's information, containing the map, voice mail, text messages and a camera. The camera can be used to take pictures of certain areas, revealing ghostly images in the finished photos. The article cites a moment when Harry takes a picture of a strange swingset, only to see his missing daughter, Cheryl, show up in the photo. Once the picture is taken, Harry receives a voicemail from Cheryl ... creepy.<br /><br /> In an interesting twist, <em>Silent Hill: Shattered Memories</em> features no combat whatsoever. When you're face to face with a freakish monster, the only choice is to run. Another change, the rusty, hellish Otherworld has been changed into a frozen, icy one instead. As in <em>Silent Hill: Homecoming</em>, the transition to the Otherworld takes place in real time as buildings freeze over and columns rise out of the ground. The preview assures us the transition is "breathtaking," but we'll reserve judgment until we can see some video.<br /><br />It certainly sounds like <em>Shattered Memories</em> could be shaping up to be a decent entry in the series, even despite the somewhat radical changes to the staple conventions. At least one thing isn't changing though. In IGN's <a href="http://wii.ign.com/articles/971/971319p1.html">interview</a> with Climax -- a good read for anyone interested in the title -- it is confirmed that Akira Yamaoka will once again provide the soundtrack.<br /><br /><a href="http://wii.ign.com/articles/971/971316p1.html">Source</a> - IGN: Silent Hill: Shattered Memories Preview<br /><a href="http://wii.ign.com/articles/971/971319p1.html">Source</a> - IGN: Silent Hill: Shattered Memories Interview<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/10/new-silent-hill-shattered-memories-details/">New Silent Hill: Shattered Memories details</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 10 Apr 2009 13:00:00 EST. <em>Silent Hill: Shattered Memories</em> was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/01/nintendo-power-reveals-silent-hill-shattered-memories-for-wii/">unveiled for Wii</a> last week by <em>Nintendo Power</em>, but it seems it won't be exclusive to Nintendo systems. This "re-imagining" of the original <em>Silent Hill </em>will also be going to PS2 and PSP, and as today's press release details, all three versions will be out sometime in Autumn this year.<br /><br />Gamers who played the original will have their memories slightly<em> shattered</em> upon picking up this new version -- characters won't be found in the same spots and new clues, dialogue and gameplay paths will serve to jumble things up. <br /><br />Another major change is the new "psyche profile," which monitors the player's reactions. Based on these reactions, alterations are made to the game's "visual elements" and the protagonist's actions as he encounters other people and creatures. The psyche profile system sounds interesting, but a bit difficult to fully grasp without seeing in action. Perhaps future gameplay videos will provide better insight into this new feature.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/06/silent-hill-shattered-memories-also-heads-to-ps2-psp/">Silent Hill: Shattered Memories also heads to PS2, PSP</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 06 Apr 2009 14:06:00 EST. The not-a-remake of the first game in the series is revealed in the May 2009 issue of <em>Nintendo Power</em>, which contains a 10-page cover feature on the Climax (<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/silent-hill-origins"><em>Silent Hill: Origins</em></a>) developed game. (Oh, and it's not an April Fools joke -- we confirmed this news with the magazine.)<br /><br /><a href="http://gonintendo.com/?p=77596">GoNintendo</a> has scanned parts of said article and provides some details, such as the Wii Remote's use in interacting directly with environment-based puzzles. Subscribers to the magazine are beginning to get the issue now, and <em>Nintendo Power </em>tells us to expect an update related to the game <a href="http://www.nintendopower.com"> next week.</a><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/01/nintendo-power-reveals-silent-hill-shattered-memories-for-wii/">Nintendo Power reveals Silent Hill: Shattered Memories for Wii</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 01 Apr 2009 18:05:00 EST. We hope Konami may soon be ready to scare some truth out of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/26/rumor-climax-developing-silent-hill-remake-for-wii-psp/">earlier rumors</a> of a <em>Silent Hill</em> remake for the Wii and PSP. The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) recently posted a '15' rating for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/silent-hill"><em>Silent Hill</em></a>, with a listing that contains an interesting breakdown of scenes from the game with titles like "ANKH ROOM" and "CYBIL'S DEATH." <br /><br />Last month's rumor laid dev duties at the feet of <em>Silent Hill: Origins</em> creator Climax, though Konami has yet to make anything official. We're trying to reach either Konami or Climax for comment ... but the lines are cut, and there's an unsettling noise coming from behind the door.<br /><br />Of course, this could just as well be a PSN re-release. And yes, we'll take one of those too.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://kotaku.com/5167122/silent-hill-gets-re+rated-wii+make-announcement-coming-soon">Kotaku</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/10/rumorang-bbfc-rates-possible-silent-hill-remake/">Rumorang: BBFC rates 'Silent Hill'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 10 Mar 2009 09:10:00 EST. Our good friends at the rumor mill are at it again, this time churning out a most delicious prospect: <a href="http://www.vg247.com/2009/02/26/rumour-climax-working-on-silent-hill-remake-for-wii/">a <em>Silent Hill </em>remake for the Wii and PSP</a>. Supposedly under development at Climax, a report suggests that the return trip to <em>Silent Hill</em> is one of two Konami projects at the studio, the other being (according to <a href="http://www.climaxgroup.com/jobs/jobs.aspx?ArticleID=996&amp;Studio=Portsmouth">job listings</a>) a "ground breaking next-gen game for the PS3 and the Xbox 360."<br /><br />We've asked Konami and Climax for comment and we'll be sure to update you as soon as we receive a response.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/26/rumor-climax-developing-silent-hill-remake-for-wii-psp/">Rumor: Climax developing Silent Hill remake for Wii, PSP</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 26 Feb 2009 10:24:00 EST. The palace is a labyrinth of more than 150 levels full of traps, platforming challenges, and, <em>of course,</em> demons. The game also features a level editor with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/18/steal-princess-to-include-wi-fi-level-sharing/">online sharing</a>!<br /><br /><em>Steal Princess </em>is set for release on March 24, for $34.99. <br /><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/rising-star-games">Rising Star Games</a> just unfurled an official list of Marvelous games that it plans to localize for Europe, including <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/16/e308-luminous-arc-2-screens-add-a-dose-of-hilarity/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Luminous Arc 2</span></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/15/e308-from-mop-tops-to-monsters-avalon-code-looks-the-part/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Avalon Code</span></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/07/rune-factory-2-preorder-bonus-is-nuts/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Rune Factory 2</span></a>, and a fourth game that is yet to be announced for North America: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/07/smuggling-new-steal-princess-screens/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Steal Princess</span></a>. Glorious, undiluted, corrupting <em>POWER</em>. That's what we crave as we slave away at our tiny desks working for The Man, and that's what Codemasters will be bringing us soon. The publisher has announced a DS version of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/16/e308-a-new-pikmin-sprouts/"><em>Pikmin</em></a>-inspired <em>Overlord</em>, in which players must use a crack team of minions to maintain control of their kingdom.<br /><br />Giblet, Blaze, Stench, and Zap are your unquestioning servants throughout <em>Overlord Minions</em>, and instantly win points with us by resembling the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/gremlin_cg140808.jpg">Gremlins</a>. Unlike the home console editions of the title, you'll be controlling your willing slaves remotely with touches of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/12/cheap-stylus-gifts-that-arent-really-styli/">stylus</a>. By combining their scaly assets, the four can help you solve puzzles, duff up enemies, and generally further your despotic desires. <br /><br />The polygon-saving omission of an Overlord avatar aside, this looks pleasingly close to the fairly <a href="http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/xbox360/overlord">well-received</a> original, and we're promised that all of that game's humor and physical comedy will have made the leap when it releases next year. We <em>command</em> you to hit the jump for a second screen.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/14/overlord-to-quench-your-insatiable-thirst-for-power/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Overlord to quench your insatiable thirst for power</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/14/overlord-to-quench-your-insatiable-thirst-for-power/">Overlord to quench your insatiable thirst for power</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 14 Aug 2008 13:00:00 EST. With every new batch of <em>Steal Princess</em> screens, we have to chuckle about some kind of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/09/these-steal-princess-screens-fell-off-the-back-of-a-truck/">petty theft</a>. The <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/17/steal-princess-site-updates-with-new-video-content/">video content</a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/23/steal-princess-thieves-her-own-corner-of-the-internet/">official website</a> are showing off what promises to be a<em> stealingly</em> good game. Stealingly isn't even a word, and it's <em>still</em> funny.<br /><br />Just a few new images today, but they do provide some insight into various features like the "Gimmick Setting" and "Land Parts Shop." Now, the recent announcement of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/18/steal-princess-to-include-wi-fi-level-sharing/">Wi-Fi level sharing</a> is associated with the shop -- you actually buy parts to create your own custom environments. No slave labor here, construction costs money! You can check out some more of the inventory systems and map screens over at <a href="http://www.famitsu.com/game/coming/1216325_1407.html"><em>Famitsu</em></a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/07/smuggling-new-steal-princess-screens/">Smuggling new Steal Princess screens</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 07 Jul 2008 08:45:00 EST. Sob.<br /><br />Part of a recent financial report from the publisher contained forecasts for forthcoming releases, as spotted by a keen-eyed <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/2008/06/18/is-square-enix-localizing-valkyrie-profile-ds/#comment-478506">Siliconera commenter</a> and posted on NeoGAF. The estimations for <em>Avalon Code</em>'s were notable, as they included figures for the U.S. and Europe, which in turn tells us we'll be getting the diary-keepin' ARPG here in the west <em>at some point</em> before March 2009.<br /><br />Alas, we'd only just finished chest-bumping one another and shouting stuff like "HELL YEAH" when our excitement was tempered by the realization that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/04/luminous-arc-2-loves-big-butts-and-it-cannot-lie/"><em>Luminous Arc 2</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/19/steal-a-glimpse-at-steal-princess-commercial-and-art/"><em>Steal Princess</em></a> <em>didn't</em> have figures for the U.S. or Europe. This (probably) means that those games <em>won't</em> be localized this financial year (despite our hopes for the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/24/were-willing-for-localization-on-luminous-arc-2-will/">former</a>). That's not to say they'll never make the trip across, of course, but for now it's one in, and two out.<br /><br /><br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=311961">NeoGAF</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/19/avalon-code-heading-west-steal-princess-luminous-arc-staying-p/">Avalon Code heading west, Steal Princess, Luminous Arc staying put</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 19 Jun 2008 08:45:00 EST. Since we've heard about <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/2008/06/17/steal-or-share-maps-with-steal-princess/"><em>Steal Princess</em></a>, we've been intrigued. The title not only has a wonderful <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/19/steal-a-glimpse-at-steal-princess-commercial-and-art/">artistic style</a>, but now we get wind of the ability to transmit levels through Wi-Fi Connect and we're even more excited. <br /><br />Players will be able to share their own custom maps, adding depth and replay value to a game that's already chock full of both these things. Too bad the game's staying in Japan.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/18/steal-princess-to-include-wi-fi-level-sharing/">Steal Princess to include Wi-Fi level-sharing</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 18 Jun 2008 15:30:00 EST. The <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/23/steal-princess-thieves-her-own-corner-of-the-internet/">official site</a> for visual masterpiece <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/09/these-steal-princess-screens-fell-off-the-back-of-a-truck/"><em>Steal Princess</em></a> has updated, unleashing on us all a new video to watch. You like to watch things, right? We're not talking about boiling tea kettles here, we mean <em>interesting things</em>. Like video game footage.<br /><br />And that's exactly what we're talking about here! Lucky, right? Indeed. Once you click on over to the official site (sorry, we can't embed it), you'll see the video in the bottom right-hand corner (the box that has the "PV" on it). Just give it a click and it'll pop up in a new window. <br /><br />[Via <a href="http://gonintendo.com/?p=46504">Go Nintendo</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/17/steal-princess-site-updates-with-new-video-content/">Steal Princess site updates with new video content</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 17 Jun 2008 14:45:00 EST. If there's one thing we've said about <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/10/shining-force-developers-working-on-ds-rpg/"><em>Steal Princess</em></a>, it's that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/19/steal-a-glimpse-at-steal-princess-commercial-and-art/">the art is <em>fantastic</em></a>. Seriously, are your jaws on the floor every time you look at something from the game? Our jaws have crashed to the floor a <em>record number of times</em>.<br /><br />The latest on the game, courtesy of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/famitsu">Famitsu</a>'s site, presents us with a glimpse into some of the items players would be using. Also, by way of these screens, we get to check out some of the game's environments. Which, by the way, look pretty good. Overall, we're liking everything we're seeing on the game.<br /><br />If you're looking for more, check out <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/23/steal-princess-thieves-her-own-corner-of-the-internet/">the official website</a> for the game.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/09/these-steal-princess-screens-fell-off-the-back-of-a-truck/">These Steal Princess screens fell off the back of a truck</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 09 Jun 2008 22:00:00 EST. We haven't heard much about Climax's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/23/steal-princess-thieves-her-own-corner-of-the-internet/"><em>Steal Princess</em></a> other than, well, that Climax is working on it and that it's a <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/2008/04/11/steal-princess-sneaks-into-stores-this-july/">dungeon/puzzle game</a> of some kind based on finding a key to exit each room of a dungeon (sort of a roguelike-lite?)<br /><br />With Climax and publisher Marvelous preparing <em>Steal Princess</em> for a July 31 release, we've been given more reason to pay close attention. First, they've released four pieces of artwork that <em>we wish</em> were wallpaper-sized, which can be found at <a href="http://www.mmv.co.jp/special/game/ds/stealprincess/special.html">Inside-Games</a>. Of course, the game doesn't use the same high-contrast anime look as these images, but they're still effective advertising (in that they are really cool). Second, if you want to know more about the actual <em>game</em>, Marvelous has released a commercial, featuring <em>several</em> simultaneous tiny gameplay clips. <br /><br />We may have reason to be interested in <em>Steal Princess.</em> AQ Interactive's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/16/blue-dragon-away-shuffle-dungeon-confirmed-for-u-s/">announcement</a> of their U.S. publishing plans includes a lot of Marvelous games whose identity has yet to be revealed. It seems likely that they'd pull from their DS lineup.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/19/steal-a-glimpse-at-steal-princess-commercial-and-art/">Steal a glimpse at Steal Princess commercial and art</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 19 May 2008 12:30:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/motorstorm/"><em>Motorstorm</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/DIRT/"><em>DiRT</em></a>, that game with Ivan "Ironman" Stewart -- these are among the elite of off-road racing titles, having set the bar ridiculously high for other games to follow. Disney, however, has its dirt-encrusted sights set higher by announcing <em>Pure</em>, an upcoming off-road racer that it claims will "redefine the off-road racing genre." <br /><br />In development for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, the game is currently being dragged through the mud at Disney's Brighton, England studio Black Rock, formerly known as Climax Racing, a studio known for such racing franchises as <em>Moto GP</em> and <em>ATV Offroad Fury</em>. Even with this experience, however, we're not exactly sure how Disney's plans reshape how we think about off-road racing, though it might have something to do with what it calls "breakneck racing" and "jaw-dropping aerial tricks," all of which are apparently being overseen by stunt guru and ATV filmmaker <a href="http://www.hbombfilms.com/home.php">Wes Miller</a>. Still, we've read these sorts of claims before, and while the initial bath of media looks interesting it's a good bet our jaws are in no danger of hitting the floor just yet.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pure/">Pure</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pure/#641622"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/02/pure-ps3__xbox_360__pcscreens9419screenshot_011w_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pure/#641621"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/02/pure-ps3__xbox_360__pcscreens9418screenshot_009w_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pure/#641620"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/02/pure-ps3__xbox_360__pcscreens9417screenshot_006p_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pure/#641619"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/02/pure-ps3__xbox_360__pcscreens9416screenshot_005p_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pure/#641617"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/02/pure-ps3__xbox_360__pcscreens9415screenshot_002p_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/14/disney-announces-pure-plans-to-redefine-off-road-racing/">Disney announces Pure, plans to "redefine" off-road racing</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 14 Feb 2008 09:30:00 EST. Like twins who look alike but follow entirely different circles, Japan-based Climax Entertainment and UK-headquartered Climax must get sick and tired of people getting them confused and mistaking one for the other, with the former best known for creating the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/04/21/10-franchises-that-need-to-return/"><em>Shining Force</em> series</a> of RPGs, while the highlight of the latter's portfolio is what, <em>Sudeki</em>?<br /><br />While we assume that Climax continues to work towards this November's release of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/silenthillorigins/"><em>Silent Hill Origins</em></a>, <a href="http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3163560">1UP</a> has revealed that Climax Entertainment is revisiting familiar territory by creating an original role-playing game called <em>Steal Princess</em> for the Nintendo DS. Set for release in Japan sometime next year, information on the new game is scarce save for that it will be an isometric RPG starring a girl named Anis (aka the "Steal Princess") and her magic-wielding fairy Kukuri, and true to the game's namesake this dynamic duo will <em>steal </em>back treasures that were themselves previously stolen by the ominously named Devil King. <br /><br />No plans have yet been announced to release the game outside Japan, of course, though as it stands we're on the fence as to how we feel about <em>Steal Princess</em> already. We know Climax Entertainment can create good stuff, as evidenced by both <em>Shining Force</em> and <em>Landstalker</em>. Then again, they also gave us such forgettable escapades as <em>Time Stalkers</em> and <em>Dark Savior</em>, prompting us to follow the old adage of 'one bitten, twice shy.'<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/11/shining-force-devs-creating-new-ds-rpg-steal-princess/">Shining Force devs creating new DS RPG Steal Princess</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 11 Oct 2007 10:40:00 EST. A few days ago, a <em>Silent Hill</em> demo was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/20/hacked-silent-hill-demo-smuggled-released-to-public/">leaked</a> onto the internet. This potentially damaging loss spread like wildfire, with sites generating upwards of 1200 downloads of the demo, which only operates on PSPs with unpatched, or unofficial firmware. Karl Jeffery, CEO and founder of developer Climax, told <a href="http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=27874">GamesIndustry.biz</a> that the UK developer is not responsible for the leak. "All I can say is that code did not leak from Climax - 100 per cent guaranteed," said Jeffery. "The code that is out there is fingerprinted and was supplied solely to Konami for marketing purposes."<br /><br />"At Climax we have strong and proven security procedures that protect all of our code, assets and builds," he added. "We have developed over 100 titles in 20 years in business and have never had a leak or theft from inside the company." In spite of this apparent security breach, it doesn't appear as though the release will be pushed back. Thank goodness -- could we really have waited even <em>longer</em> for <em>Silent Hill Origins</em>?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/21/climax-denies-responsibility-for-silent-hill-demo-leak/">Climax denies responsibility for Silent Hill demo leak</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 21 Aug 2007 21:00:00 EST. In a recent interview with <a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=75765">Eurogamer</a>, <em>Silent Hill: Origins</em> producer William Oertel confirmed previous <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/10/24/rumor-silent-hill-origins-in-trouble/">rumors</a> that the game met serious problems during its production. The solution, it appears, was to switch development teams altogether. "Game development isn't an exact science, and sometimes you need to go back and adjust some things. In this case, it has been for the best. It was decided that moving development to Climax's Portsmouth office would be best for the game, and that introduced delays."<br /><br />As evidenced by the most recent <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/23/brutally-violent-silent-hill-gameplay-vids/">video footage</a>, the game has certainly come a long way, and we're excited to find out more. It's clear that <em>Origins</em> is in good hands, with the producers understanding what makes a <em>Silent Hill</em> game so unique. "As I'm fond of saying, <em>Silent Hill</em> is an exercise in subtlety, and therefore the changes seen in this game, compared to previous games, reflect that."<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://plaza.rakuten.co.jp/pspcell/diary/200705020000/">PSP GadgetZ</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/02/silent-hill-interview-confirms-development-troubles/">Silent Hill interview confirms development troubles</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 02 May 2007 12:00:00 EST. First off, all of the licensed GP tracks you know and love will be making a triumphant return this September. The face lift to the graphics are also worthing noting, as well as adding tweaks to the handling to make the game a little more accessible, while still maintaining its simulation roots. The Extreme mode is also back, and apparently at least some of the tracks from last year will be playable again. Customization will be more in depth, to help make your bike yours. But, it won't necessarily be yours forever, as you can take a page out of <em>Juiced 2</em>'s book and race for pink slips on your crotch rocket. More details available by clicking the "Read" link. With the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/motogp07">swarm</a> of <em>MotoGP</em> news, can September come soon enough? Or should we wake you when it's over?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/02/motogp-07-hands-on/">MotoGP 07 Hands on</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 02 Mar 2007 17:30:00 EST. The game looks beautiful, which is to be expected, and <em>Moto GP 07</em> promises that this is going to be the most "spectacular season ever" and refers to the player as the returning champion. Could their be a <em>slight</em> storyline behind this season's career mode? It also showed some glimpses of the Extreme Mode, as well. We'll have to see, but what they did show at the end was interesting, the game is scheduled to release in September 2007. So at the tail end of summer we should be ripping along the tracks at 300 km/h. How did the trailer look to you?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/02/motogp-07-trailer-release-month-announced/">MotoGP 07 Trailer, release month announced</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 02 Mar 2007 09:45:00 EST. In it we see that Extreme mode is making return, with enhanced options for customization. Of particular note is the textures for the asphalt on the tracks, which along with all the other graphical details, are making progress over last years edition. We've got some very sexy screens awaiting your perusal after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/02/27/motogp-07-images-and-release-schedule/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>MotoGP 07 Images and release schedule</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/02/27/motogp-07-images-and-release-schedule/">MotoGP 07 Images and release schedule</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 27 Feb 2007 11:45:00 EST. Old school Xbox Live members should have fond memories of the MotoGP series. The online demo/patch for the original <em>MotoGP</em> as well as the demo for <em>Whacked!</em> were packed in with the initial release of the Xbox Live starter kit back in 2002. On Xbox 360, <em>MotoGP 06</em> wowed gamers with its stellar graphics, and while the Grand Prix was less forgiving, the Extreme Mode tailored more to the arcade racing style and was more accessible. Are you interested in some two wheeled racing? And for the record, were any of our readers there for the beginning of Xbox Live and had some of their first online experiences in a 16 person race around Mugello?<br /><br />[Thanks, gaetge]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/02/22/motogp-07-confirmed-for-xbox-360/">MotoGP 07 confirmed for Xbox 360</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 22 Feb 2007 10:45:00 EST.
