Comet Crash demo lands on PSN

If you're going to get the game (and we couldn't recommend it more, really) and have some Amazon credit or a gift card at the ready, Comet Crash is also going to be available via the online mega-retailer starting later today -- at the $4.99 price, to boot.
Flower, Comet Crash & other PSN titles half-price this week
It seems the PlayStation Store got a little jealous of the brick-and-mortar retailers who were offering discounts during this week of Black Friday Thanksgiving. Beginning with today's specially-dated Tuesday PSN update, a handful of downloadable PS3 titles will be offered for half-price until December 2. Here's a list of the encheapened games, and their temporarily slimmed-down prices:

Comet Crash update brings new content and features
A new (and free) title update, now available for the PSN-exclusive Comet Crash, introduces new levels, maps, battle settings and an "expert" difficulty mode to the Tower Defense-style game. What sets Comet Crash apart from other titles in the genre is the game's offensive gameplay, allowing players to send waves of their own forces against an ongoing alien threat. Aliens as enemies in a video game? Creativity! According to the PlayStation Blog, the 1.03 update includes:
- "Expert" difficulty setting for seasoned Comet Crash players.
- 4 new Resurgence levels -- one unlocked at the end of each comet during the Campaign.
- 4 new Battle maps.
- Battle timer setting. After the timer runs out, all mobile units generate at 8x the normal rate.
- Thorium setting to tweak available resources in Battle mode.
What's In A Name: Pelfast and 2BeeGames
We don't want the big guys to have all the fun, so this week we're finding out the origins of a couple of indie names. First is Comet Crash developer Pelfast, and then we've got a bonus submission from indie gaming hub 2BeeGames.

"Back in college (early 2000), I needed a company name that represented graphics/animation -- where I thought I would end up. Pixel was a little overused, so I went with the lesser known abbreviation, pel, and ended up with Pelfast after a little brainstorming. A quick internet search turned up only one hit for pelfast: some kind of WWII military ammunition, so I felt it would work."
–John Bates, Pelfast founder
"2BeeGames has several meanings. Originally the 'two bees' referred to myself and my partner who came up with the idea for an indie game destination/community. As the concept of the site evolved into a place where we would hold competitions and publish the best games on the site, the name took on another meaning, as in a place where indie games go 'to be' published onto consoles. Now as our community grows, we're running with the bee theme and our community is called 'the hive'."
–Tony Tran, site manager

US gets free Comet Crash update, while Europe (finally!) gets the game
Gamers in the US will be able to download a new patch in the coming weeks that adds "some new and remastered sound effects, graphics tweaks, language support and a newly optimized SDTV layout." Europeans will be able to get the enhanced game for the first time in October. Trust us on this: you'll really enjoy it.
Comet Crash patch adds YouTube recording
It's one of the best (and most underused) features of the PS3: the ability to record gameplay footage onto YouTube. The quietly-released strategy PSN game, Comet Crash, is getting a new patch that adds YouTube recording, amongst other features:

- Flag icons added to scoreboard. If you have an existing score, you have to get a better score in order to register your flag.
- Save Data for Campaign progress.
- Campaign time penalties are now applied as they occur, instead of at the end of the game.
- Rank is displayed in Area Complete screen.
- Building on top of units of the same team will destroy them instead of floating them.
- In Battle mode, the player that destroys an enemy base gets a Thorium bonus.

Comet Crash hits PSN tomorrow for $9.99
Tomorrow's Spring Fever game is Comet Crash. And guess what? It's yet another tower defense game. Debuting on the PlayStation Network tomorrow, the game will feature 28 stages, and two multiplayer modes: a 3-player co-op mode and a 4-player offline battle mode. Not only will the title feature 1080p visuals, but you'll be able to play your own music thanks to its XMB music support.
The PlayStation.Blog has more details on the upcoming game, but for now you can watch the trailer. We know there are many that are hankering for some more tower defense, but we feel like this might be too soon after Savage Moon. Check it out tomorrow for $9.99.
