Crysis has thrown its card into the hat of today's <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/xbox-one">Xbox One</a> announcements, to say that CryEngine 3 does indeed run on Microsoft's new console. The company is already licensed to provide middleware and tools for Xbox One, which means that any developers looking to use CryEngine 3 to make their games will have no problem running the code on the new box.<br />
<br />
There are a number of titles already announced for the Xbox One, but nothing <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CryEngine#CryEngine_3_2">using CryEngine 3</a> just yet. Don't weep, though; We're sure to hear about something soon.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/22/cryengine-3-already-runs-on-xbox-one/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>CryEngine 3 already runs on Xbox One</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/22/cryengine-3-already-runs-on-xbox-one/">CryEngine 3 already runs on Xbox One</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 22 May 2013 05:00:00 EST. Typically, a URI is clicked on by the user, either in the form of a link in a web browser or as a shortcut on a desktop, at which point the URI launches Origin and tells it what game to load, and how.<br /><br />As it happens, certain Origin-exclusive games are vulnerable to having their execution commands subverted by precisely formatted URIs. As seen in the graph above, this can be used by <em>bad dudes</em> to piggyback instructions onto the URI, which can instruct Origin to load and run malicious software, rather than <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/crysis-3"><em>Crysis 3</em></a>.<br /><br />Avoiding this exploit is thankfully simple, however: Open Origin first, and launch games from there. The exploitative instructions are contained within the URI hyperlink -- take that out of the equation, and you should be fine.<br /><br />"Our team is constantly investigating hypotheticals like this one as we continually update our security infrastructure," an EA representative told us. <span>Uniform resource identifiers aren't unique to Origin, of course, and are widely used in everything from iTunes to Steam, the latter of which has an </span><a href="http://revuln.com/files/ReVuln_Steam_Browser_Protocol_Insecurity.pdf">extremely similar vulnerability</a><span> [PDF] that was discovered by ReVuln last year.</span><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/19/origin-exploit-uses-hyperlinks-to-run-malicious-code-remotely/">Origin exploit uses hyperlinks to run malicious code remotely</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 19 Mar 2013 15:45:00 EST. Despite a 43 percent dip in sales this week, Crytek's sci-fi shooter leads the pack again. As for last week's runner-up, <em>Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance</em> drops a place to No 3 after a 60 percent fall in sales, while soccer stalwart <em>FIFA 13</em> nudges ahead of it into second place.<br /><br />With no major new releases, this week's charts paint a familiar, almost serene picture. <em>Aliens: Colonial Marines</em> and <em>Dead Space 3</em> only suffer slight drops to make it three and four weeks respectively in the top ten, while lower down the charts <em>Ni no Kuni</em> shows it's still got life in its JRPG veins by returning to the top 40 in 25th spot.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/04/crysis-3-keeps-its-cool-to-top-uk-charts-for-second-week/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Crysis 3 keeps its cool to top UK charts for second week</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/04/crysis-3-keeps-its-cool-to-top-uk-charts-for-second-week/">Crysis 3 keeps its cool to top UK charts for second week</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 04 Mar 2013 08:40:00 EST. At the time, Yerli said Nintendo and EA talked it over but couldn't work out a deal.<br /><br />Turns out that while Nintendo and EA talked shop, Crytek was doing more than twiddling its thumbs - it had <em>Crysis 3</em> almost ready to lauch on the Wii U.<br /><br />"We did have <em>Crysis 3</em> running on the Wii U," Yerli tells <a href="http://venturebeat.com/2013/03/01/crytek-chief-puts-on-his-warface-interview/view-all/">Venture Beat</a>. It's the first week of the year to see two major releases go head to head, and while <em>Crysis 3</em> had PC sales in its corner, digital purchases don't count towards Chart-Track's data.<br /><br />Unsurprisingly given the series' roots, the PS3 was the lead platform for <em>MGR: Revengeance</em>, coming in at 61 percent. Xbox 360 sales dominated <em>Crysis 3</em>'s retail performance with 57 percent of the share.<br /><br /><em>Dead Space 3</em> made it three weeks in the top ten, dropping to sixth, while last week's leader, <em>Aliens: Colonial Marines</em>, pipped the space horror to fifth place. Meanwhile, early 2013 chart successes <em>Ni no Kuni</em> and <em>DmC: Devil May Cry</em> left the top 40 altogether.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/25/crysis-3-pips-metal-gear-rising-revengeance-to-top-this-weeks/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Crysis 3 pips Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance to top this week's UK charts</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/25/crysis-3-pips-metal-gear-rising-revengeance-to-top-this-weeks/">Crysis 3 pips Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance to top this week's UK charts</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 25 Feb 2013 08:00:00 EST. Though <em>Crysis 3</em> has some of the better-designed maps in the series, the muddied textures are a far cry from the jaw-dropping visuals of the single-player campaign, especially on consoles."</li> <li> <a href="http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/02/19/crysis-3-review">IGN</a> <strong>(85/100)</strong>: "It's not quite a next generation experience come early, but it's a superbly controlled, tightly paced and tactically flexible shooter with a satisfyingly focused story, and an excellent way to tie up the Crysis series... for now."</li> <li> <a href="http://www.destructoid.com/review-crysis-3-245765.phtml">Destructoid</a> <strong>(75/100)</strong>: "<em>Crysis 3</em> attempts to strike a balance between <em>Crysis</em> and <em>Crysis 2</em>, but in doing so manages to lose a little bit of what made each game appealing. The result is a title that doesn't truly match the open-ended excitement of the first game nor the revelatory empowerment of the second, yet manages to provide enough of both to at least tantalize, even if it doesn't completely satisfy."</li> <li> <a href="http://www.gamesradar.com/crysis-3-review/">GamesRadar</a> <strong>(70/100)</strong>: "A gratifying shooter experience. Even though the campaign is on the shorter side, there are a few visual hiccups, and some of the enemy AI is unbalanced, those small gripes get overshadowed by <em>Crysis 3</em>'s tactical gameplay, beautiful environments, and superb online multiplayer. While not treading new ground for the FPS genre, <em>Crysis 3</em> is a solid shooter."</li> <li> <a href="http://www.videogamer.com/reviews/crysis_3_review.html">VideoGamer</a> <strong>(60/100)</strong>: "By the end of the game I was bored silly, and considering the scope of what was going on that shouldn't have been the case. Sadly, bar a few exceptions - a Jurassic Park-style hunting section in long grass, an open-ended assault on Ceph AA emplacements - I'd rinsed and repeated the same thing so much that I couldn't care less."</li></ul><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/19/metareview-crysis-3/">Metareview: Crysis 3</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 19 Feb 2013 19:15:00 EST. The alien race called the Ceph take a backseat for a majority of the campaign, which helps </span><em>Crysis 3</em><span> to avoid the pitfalls of </span><a href="http://joystiq.com/game/crysis-2"><em>Crysis 2</em></a><span>, namely that it was hard to know what was going on if you weren't already invested in the series.</span><br /> <br /> This time around, it's simple. A man called Prophet, clad in a powerful Nanosuit, has to help a group of rebels take down CELL for the good of all humanity. It's hardly groundbreaking narrative, but at least it's something practically anyone can identify with.<br /> <br /> <span>The real beauty of the campaign, however, comes courtesy of its sandbox encounters. In each of these skirmishes, </span><em>Crysis 3</em><span> proves </span><span>a malleable melange of mayhem, a series of situations that adapt to however you wish to play. </span></div><div> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/crysis-3-2-19-2013/">Crysis 3 (2/19/2013)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/crysis-3-2-19-2013/#5648238"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/02/00nanosuitshowroom_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/crysis-3-2-19-2013/#5648239"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/02/00tutorialshootingrange_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/crysis-3-2-19-2013/#5648240"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/02/01jailbreak1intro_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/crysis-3-2-19-2013/#5648241"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/02/01jailbreak2outdoor_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/crysis-3-2-19-2013/#5648242"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/02/01jailbreak3indoorfight_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/19/crysis-3-review/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Crysis 3 review: Pernicious effects of patience</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/19/crysis-3-review/">Crysis 3 review: Pernicious effects of patience</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 19 Feb 2013 09:30:00 EST. Ahead of the game's release next week on February 19, EA must hope that number translates into sales; <em>Crysis 2</em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/26/crysis-2-ships-3-million-dead-space-2-at-around-2-million/">shipped</a> at least three million units, but was also reportedly <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/03/report-crysis-2-is-the-most-pirated-game-of-2011/">the most pirated game of 2011</a>.<br /><br />Based on pre-order stats, the early indications look promising for the third entry in Crytek's sci-fi shooter series. EA noted <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/30/ea-dead-space-3-crysis-3-pre-sales-tracking-ahead-of-previous/">40 percent</a> more pre-orders for <em>Crysis 3</em> over <em>Crysis 2</em> in its financials at the end of January, and today that number holds steady enough at 35 percent.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/15/crysis-3-beta-downloaded-over-3-million-times/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>EA: Crysis 3 beta downloaded over 3 million times</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/15/crysis-3-beta-downloaded-over-3-million-times/">EA: Crysis 3 beta downloaded over 3 million times</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 15 Feb 2013 10:00:00 EST. This two-week affair will conclude on February 12, giving PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 players a chance to sample two modes and two maps ahead of <em>Crysis 3</em>'s February 19 launch.<br /><br />The game modes in question are Crash Site, a team-based mode where players fight to capture and defend specifically marked location on the map for points, and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/18/getting-sneaky-in-crysis-3s-hunter-mode/">Hunter</a>, an asymmetrical mode where two cloaked guys with bows stalk and kill visible CELL soldiers - once a CELL soldier is killed, he respawns on the other team as a Hunter.<br /><br />EA says the beta will be available to all players, though we should note that does not override the need for a Gold subscription on Xbox Live.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/23/crysis-3-open-multiplayer-beta-uncloaks-on-jan-29/">Crysis 3 open multiplayer beta uncloaks on Jan. 29</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 23 Jan 2013 21:30:00 EST. In July Crytek hinted that a Wii U version of <em>Crysis 3 </em>was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/07/26/crysis-3-producer-dances-around-wii-u-possibility/">a possibility</a>, but even that slim chance has since vanished.<br /><br />"There has been discussions between Nintendo and EA and Crytek, but the bottom line is that there is that there's not enough business drive in it," Yerli says. "It's a business decision between EA and Nintendo. If that business decision doesn't make sense, or seems to not make sense for them, it's... not possible for us to make it. We can't publish ourselves, and that's the bottom line."<br /><br />In August, Crytek general manager Nick Button-Brown had the opportunity to put down any Wii U rumors, but he hedged his phrasing, saying Crytek wasn't "currently" developing for Wii U. But if EA doesn't see money in the Wii U, that's the final nail in <em>Crysis 3</em>'s touchscreen, NFC-enabled coffin.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/08/crysis-3-is-not-coming-to-the-wii-u-for-real-this-time/">Crysis 3 is not coming to the Wii U, for real this time</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 08 Jan 2013 20:00:00 EST. Cevat Yerli, CEO and President of Crytek, says it "doesn't mean it's the end of the franchise." In fact, Crytek is already in the initial stages of developing the next <em>Crysis</em> game.<br /><br />"There can be literally tonnes of titles out there within the franchise," Yerli told <a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-11-12-crytek-plots-much-more-radical-future-crysis-but-it-wont-be-called-crysis-4">Eurogamer</a>. "Unlike <em>Far Cry</em>, this time around we feel very flexible about<em> Crysis</em>." Yerli says that calling the next game <em>Crysis 4</em> "would be misleading" since it would "imply the story just moves on" after <em>Crysis 3</em>.<br /><br />"We do have a plan for a F2P version of <em>Crysis</em>, but how this looks and when this will be done, whether this is the next one or the next next one, is to be decided," Yerli added. "But we have a very clear picture of how this will look in a transitional period where retail and free-to-play can coexist for one title."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/11/12/cryteks-franchise-getting-more-flexible-after-crysis-3-possi/">Crytek's franchise getting more 'flexible' after Crysis 3, possibly F2P</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 12 Nov 2012 22:00:00 EST. At very few points would I say that <em>I</em> managed to get sneaky in <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/crysis-3"><em>Crysis 3</em></a> mutiplayer. Sneakiness, however, was certainly the point. EA had two multiplayer modes on display at Gamescom this year, Crash Site and Hunter.<br /><br />Crash Site was also featured in <em>Crysis 2</em> and, for all intents and purposes, is king of the hill. Two teams - 6v6 on console, 8v8 on PC - chase down and defend "pods," accruing points for standing near one. After a certain amount of time, the pod explodes, another is deployed elsewhere on the map and the cycle repeats. The pods themselves house two portable shields that aid in defense, and there's also the Pinger, a massive controllable mech that can help in either assaulting or defending the pod. Beyond that, however, the mode is pretty standard.<br /><br />Far more interesting is the Hunter mode, which should be familiar to any FPS player that has ever played a game of "zombies."<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/crysis-3-5-16-12/">Crysis 3 (5/16/12)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/crysis-3-5-16-12/#5027548"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/05/crysis-3---bow---1080-res_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/crysis-3-5-16-12/#5027549"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/05/crysis-3---grass-fields-concept-art_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/crysis-3-5-16-12/#5027550"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/05/crysis-3---islands-concept-art_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/crysis-3-5-16-12/#5027551"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/05/crysis-3---liberty-dome-nyc-concept-art_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/crysis-3-5-16-12/#5027552"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/05/crysis-3---river-concept-art_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/18/getting-sneaky-in-crysis-3s-hunter-mode/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Getting sneaky in Crysis 3's Hunter mode</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/18/getting-sneaky-in-crysis-3s-hunter-mode/">Getting sneaky in Crysis 3's Hunter mode</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 18 Aug 2012 15:30:00 EST. The developer hopes to have <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/23/crysis-2-directx-11-update-coming-june-27-some-users-already-ha/">Direct X 11 support</a> for PC at launch this time -- one of several advantages, it says, of having spent 14 months creating content and enhancing CryEngine 3, as opposed to building it and an accompanying game for three major systems.<br /><br />"Yeah, I'm pretty sure we're going to have that," said Rasmus Hojengaard, Director of Creative Development. "I don't know if we've announced that yet, but obviously we're going to have DirectX 11 support since we already did it [for <em>Crysis 2</em>]. We basically started from a <em>Crysis 2</em> DX11 patch, as starting point, and then we developed our technology from there on. We'd be pretty stupid not to capitalize on the technology we did for that and utilizing that from the get-go."<br /><br /><em>Crysis 3</em> was running on PC during a recent unveiling in San Francisco, where Crytek showed off its vision of New York City as a devastated, metropolitan mire being swallowed by nature. While the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions aren't ready to be shown yet, Hojengaard says they will benefit from the studio's philosophy in art design, with the game being "actually less reliant on shader technology than, you know, just really good moods, good light setups, and good asset creation."<br /><br />That approach, in turn, also supports the PC version, which still lives beneath the franchise's reputation for crippling even the most exorbitant hardware. "We also want to make sure, even if you're on the PC, even if you don't have the super powerhouse, nuclear power plant at home, you can still run the game and get a beautiful experience from it."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/24/crysis-3-intended-to-have-directx-11-support-on-pc-from-day-one/">Crysis 3 intended to have DirectX 11 support on PC from day one</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 24 Apr 2012 10:45:00 EST.
