It appears as though demo discs, instead of the retail game discs, have been shipped out to numerous retailers incorrectly, according to Game Informer. Only Xbox 360 shipments appear to have been affected by the issue, and even then not all 360 shipments were part of the faulty batch, so there's still a chance you'll be able to go out and buy an actual copy today.

We've reached out to Warner Bros. for comment and will update with any further information we receive on the situation.

Update: Warner Bros. issued a statement to IGN saying it's recalling a "small number" of discs which, while labelled as demo discs, do in fact contain the retail game.

The statement reads:
"Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment is recalling a small number of LEGO The Lord of the Rings video games that were released for the Xbox 360(R) video game and entertainment system from Microsoft to Walmart, Target and Toys 'R' Us in the United States with a disc labeling error. The discs in question are incorrectly labeled as demo discs, but those discs do contain the full game content and are fully functional. This error does not affect any other formats of the game. We are in the process of remanufacturing the discs and will get them to the stores as soon as possible. Consumers who purchased a copy of the Xbox 360 version of the game with the disc labeling error can contact customer support via email at support@wbgames.com or phone at 410-568-3680 for a replacement disc."

It seems the various game demos contained in the $100 PlayStation Move Starter Bundle will arrive on PSN at a later date. "Most of the demos will be up after launch," noted Sony product manager Ami Sheth in the comments section of a recent Move unboxing vid post on PlayStation Blog. "Stay tuned for PlayStation store updates."

The Starter Bundle disc pack-in supposedly contains 11 demos, and Sony social media manager Jeff Rubenstein calls it "probably the best demo disc that's ever been included with any console." He also promises there'll be a video showing off that disc in the near future. We've requested a list of the demos on the disc, but for now we're eagerly anticipating what will probably be the best video showing off a demo disc ever to ship with any peripheral's marketing campaign.

We should also note that an Amazon UK listing for a similar "Move Starter Pack" indicates there are just nine demos on its included disc (which are "subject to change"), ranging from Start the Party! to Hustle Kings. Bizarrely, the product description also suggests that the Echochrome 2 and Beat Sketchers demos on the disc do not feature Move support.

Update: As commenters have pointed out, the UK bundle contains nine demos that will all be available on PSN at launch (detailed by the EU PlayStation blog), which we've listed after the break.

It turns out, that isn't the GameStop pre-order incentive it was made out to be. Instead, the demo disc will be free for all -- a GameStop pre-order will net you a card with 500 Wii Points on it.

As for getting the demo disc, you'll be able to walk into any GameStop location and grab one starting March 8.

This may be the only chance UK residents may have to try Kratos' upcoming adventure early. The first 5,000 people that register at GameSpot's promotional site will receive a UMD demo disc (most likely featuring the same content as the US demo). You'll need to answer a trivia question correctly to get the prize, so make sure you read carefully
