<em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/dead-or-alive-dimensions/">Dead or Alive: Dimensions</a></em> won't be available in Sweden, because it potentially violates the country's child pornography laws. The title will also skip Norway and Denmark as a result -- all three territories are covered by the same distributor, Bergsala. <a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-05-20-nordic-dead-or-alive-release-ruined">Eurogamer Sweden</a> has a joint statement from Nintendo and Bergsala in which they claim to "have decided not to release the game in Sweden, for various reasons." However, neither company wished to list the reasons.<br />
<br />
Allegedly, the genesis of the drama involves a forum poster noting that three of the <em>DoA</em> characters are under 18 years of age, which could violate Swedish law when placed in risque situations within the game's "Figure Mode." Animated images have been subject to <a href="http://translate.google.com/translate?js=n&amp;prev=_t&amp;hl=en&amp;ie=UTF-8&amp;layout=2&amp;eotf=1&amp;sl=auto&amp;tl=en&amp;u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.dn.se%2Fdnbok%2Fdnbok-hem%2Fmangaserier-klassade-som-barnporr">child pornography laws in Sweden since 1980</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/23/dead-or-alive-dimensions-yanked-in-sweden-norway-and-denmark/">Dead or Alive: Dimensions yanked in Sweden, Norway and Denmark</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 23 May 2011 13:55:00 EST. Let's play a quick game of "which of these two things is the craziest thing you've ever heard?" So, there's this Scandinavian law which prohibits any form of marketing for energy drinks, which <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/ea-sports-mma"><em>EA Sports MMA</em></a> (with its energy drink-branded fighter shorts and environments) would flagrantly violate. That's weird, right? Here's what's weirder: EA Sports has decided to <a href="http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=262083?cid=OTC-RSS&amp;attr=CVG-General-RSS">cancel the game's release</a> in the region outright to preserve the game's authenticity.<br />
<br />
So, which is more bizarre? The fact that fans of dudefights living in Denmark won't be able to get their <em>EA Sports MMA</em> fix due to <em>energy drink pants</em>? Or the fact that EA Sports refuses to change the <em>energy drink pants</em> into <em>Taco Bell pants</em> because it would ruin the authenticity of the MMA experience? We're leaning towards the latter.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/27/ea-sports-mma-wont-be-sold-in-denmark-because-of-energy-drink-l/">EA Sports MMA won't be sold in Denmark because of energy drink law</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 27 Aug 2010 17:30:00 EST. As far as we know, the kind of laziness which prevents you from visiting the nearest Blockbuster Video is a worldwide phenomenon. According to <a href="http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/events/ces/docs/XboxLIVEFS.doc">a press release</a> (.doc link) dropped just in time for CES, Microsoft is catering to this global lethargy by opening up the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/video-marketplace">Xbox Live Video Marketplace</a> to ten more countries this fall: Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, Austria, Australia and New Zealand. <br />
<br />
Basically, if the Xbox Live Video Marketplace was playing <em>Risk</em>, it'd have a kickass lock on the Eastern Hemisphere.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/07/xbox-live-video-marketplace-coming-to-10-more-countries-this-fa/">Xbox Live Video Marketplace coming to 10 more countries 'this fall'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 07 Jan 2010 15:00:00 EST. <em>The Beatles: Rock Band's</em> initial U.S. tour at retail has proven boast-worthy for its promoters. Following two promising platform <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/19/september-npd-obviously-destined-to-sell-tons/#continued">appearances</a> in NPD's top 10 software sales chart for September, MTV Games and Harmonix have <a href="http://www.rockband.com/news/thebeatlesrockband_number1">declared</a> <em>B:RB </em> "the top selling music video game in the U.S. for September." The Beatles-only game (released September 9) outsold <em>Guitar Hero 5</em> (released September 1) with 595,000 units to 499,000 units in total U.S. sales for the month, according to a statement released by the NPD<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/20/beatles-rock-band-bests-guitar-hero-5-in-u-s-sept-sales/#update">*</a>. Additionally, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/09/reminder-the-beatles-rock-band-dlc-already-available/">charity-driven</a> purchases of the "All You Need Is Love" DLC track exceeded 100,000 downloads on Xbox 360 in September.<br /><br />The makers of <em>B:RB</em> have also rubbed in a few seemingly noteworthy facts; namely, (1) U.S. purchases of <em>GH5</em> in September were <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/11/buy-guitar-hero-5-get-guitar-hero-van-halen-for-free/">eligible</a> for a free mail-away copy of <em>Guitar Hero: Van Halen,</em> and (2) <em>GH5 </em>is available on one additional platform, PS2. Of course, Van Halen isn't exactly the American equivalent of The Beatles, and the PS2 is no longer the dominant platform to stage one's acts upon. Still, despite the <em>staggering</em> odds stacked against its success, <em>B:RB</em> managed to capture the mindshare of U.S. gamers. (And we all know that Americans like to speak their minds <span style="font-style: italic;">with their monies</span>.)<br /><br />The sales de-<em>feat</em> must feel good for MTV Games and Harmonix -- what with <em>B:RB</em> being burned in the sales competition with <em>GH5</em> by the kingdom that birthed the band (see: Chart-Track UK September sales rankings posted after the break). What was it? Right: <span style="font-style: italic;">Guitar Hero 5</span> supposedly outsold <span style="font-style: italic;">The Beatles: Rock Band</span> "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/14/activision-guitar-hero-5-launch-probably-franchises-best/">2-to-1 in the UK</a>." <br /><br />So, score a victory for <span style="font-style: italic;">B:RB </span>in the battle of the bands fought in U.S. retail last month. But let's not forget there's a bigger, "World War of Rock" being waged, as well. And our wallets are the oft-unreported collateral damage.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/20/beatles-rock-band-bests-guitar-hero-5-in-u-s-sept-sales/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Beatles: Rock Band bests Guitar Hero 5 in U.S. Sept. sales</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/20/beatles-rock-band-bests-guitar-hero-5-in-u-s-sept-sales/">Beatles: Rock Band bests Guitar Hero 5 in U.S. Sept. sales</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 20 Oct 2009 12:30:00 EST. Fun fact: Heavy Metal was invented in Denmark in 1843 by Professor Garth Metallus in a horrible lab accident involving taut metal strings and a primitive electroacoustical transducer. The spirit of the <em>rock music</em> has innundated the nation ever since -- as such, we're not surprised that EA Denmark was the studio which recently revealed the 100-plus <em>thrashing</em> songs which will be included in Double Fine's upcoming epic rock story, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/brutal-legend"><em>Br&uuml;tal Legend</em></a>.<br /><br />The list has since been pulled from EA Denmark's site, but not before <a href="http://kotaku.com/5333045/ea-denmark-drops-brutal-legends-complete-soundtrack">Kotaku snagged a screencap</a> of a translated version of the page. We've got the whole kit n' caboodle posted after the jump. Unless EA makes some drastic changes to the final setlist, they're going to have to put a Surgeon General's warning on the game, telling players they're about to subject themselves to a terrible case of <em>face melting</em>.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/brutal-legend/">Brutal Legend</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/brutal-legend/#1347182"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/brütal-legend-screens-2-10-09_4-2102009-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/brutal-legend/#1347181"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/brütal-legend-screens-2-10-09_3-2102009-2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/brutal-legend/#1347180"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/brütal-legend-screens-2-10-09_2-2102009-3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/brutal-legend/#1347179"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/brütal-legend-screens-2-10-09_1-2102009-4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/brutal-legend/#1270028"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/01/brutal-legend-logo_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/09/full-brutal-legend-soundtrack-released-by-ea-denmark/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Full Brutal Legend soundtrack released by EA Denmark</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/09/full-brutal-legend-soundtrack-released-by-ea-denmark/">Full Brutal Legend soundtrack released by EA Denmark</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 09 Aug 2009 12:30:00 EST. Like to play shooters with the volume at full blast? Sure, that home theater setup might give stellar surround sound and it can even make things sound as real as possible, but it could also land you into a lot of trouble. Take the case of two 21-year old gamers from Valby, Denmark for example; just over the weekend, the boys were <a href="http://ekstrabladet.dk/112/article1108226.ece">detained by Danish authorities</a> who were responding to gunfire reports in the neighborhood. <br /><br />Neighbors mistook the gunshots heard from the boys' "PlayStation game" as actual gunfire and reciprocated with emergency calls to the police authorities. The volume was turned up so loud that the boys could not initially hear the police calling out to them via megaphone. Luckily, no one got hurt when the boys were finally detained. The cops searched the apartment, found no weapons and came to the conclusion that the noises were coming from the game playing on the television. The two were allowed back into their apartment without any further incident.<br /><br />So what have we learned today, children? That gaming has become such a viscerally real experience that its world of imagination can be misconstrued as real. <div style="text-align: left;"><br />108 days after it originally launched in the U.S., <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/super-smash-bros-brawl-snapshots/887824/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Super Smash Bros. Brawl</span></a> was released in Europe and promptly flew to the upper echelons of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/another-week-in-europe">Europe's sales charts</a>. Nintendo's scrapper was top of the Week 26 pile in Sweden, Germany, Britain, and Holland, was only beaten into second place by the absurdly popular <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/04/producer-hints-at-lego-indiana-jones-sequel/"><span style="font-style: italic;">LEGO Indiana Jones</span></a> in Denmark and Ireland, and will probably be top when the one-week-behind Spanish charts are revealed next week.<br /><br />Yet it wasn't all smooth sailing. In the UK and Ireland, <span style="font-style: italic;">Brawl</span> very nearly had its high position compromised by a game we haven't seen in a while -- <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/cant-find-wii-fit-try-these-alternatives/845581/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Wii Fit</span></a>. Thanks to the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/balance-board">Balance Board</a> game getting restocked, the title leapt 27 places in the UK to third place, and was also third in Ireland, after being outside the Top 20 last week. A remarkable recovery, but it just shows how <strike>overweight</strike> desperate we all are for Nintendo's wobbly creation!<br /><br />Check out what Europeans are buying after the break.<br /><br /><br /></div>

If Europeans feel their food has lacked variety and flavor this week, they've only themselves to blame. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/17/cooking-guide-cant-decide-which-trailer-to-watch/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Cooking Guide: Can't Decide What to Eat?</span></a> was a bit of a failure with consumers, despite our predictions of great things for the title <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/21/another-week-in-europe/">last week</a>, so don't come moaning to us when your beef bourguignon goes awry! Only the UK showed a mild appetite for the non-game, pushing it to 19th. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/new-international-track-and-field/808422/"><em>New International Track &amp; Field</em></a>, meanwhile, didn't even get close to <em>any</em> chart.<br /><br />Still, it's not as though Euro consumers Can't Decide What to Buy -- most top tens are filled with the usual suspects, at least until next week, when <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/23/metareview-final-fantasy-tactics-a2-grimoire-of-the-rift/"><em>Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/07/ds-fanboy-review-ninja-gaiden-dragon-sword/"><em>Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword</em></a> arrive on our fair shores. <div align="left"><br />Even though <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/28/nintendo-pledges-more-wii-fit-stock-to-uk/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Wii Fit</span></a> continues to be as common as chicken teeth everywhere, Nintendo finally seems to be sorting out its <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/25/wii-fanboy-review-mario-kart-wii/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Mario Kart Wii</span></a> stock issues in Europe. After dipping in recent weeks, the racer (which nearly made this blogger sob with frustration at our last <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/category/game-night/">Game Night</a>) has risen in Ireland, Holland, and the UK. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/27/point-counterpoint-the-worth-of-wii-play/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Wii Play</span></a> had a fine few days, sensationally nabbing second spot in Britain, while <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/12/deca-sporta-coming-to-europe-in-mid-2008-with-new-uninspiring-n/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Sports Island</span></a> is raking in the euros in the Netherlands. <br />Never, ever, ever, ever rule out the power of Kawashima. We're going to have that tattooed across our foreheads, because despite us slyly noting <span style="font-style: italic;">Brain Training</span>'s slow decline in the Euro charts these last few weeks, the blighter has bounced back mightily -- bugger.<br /><br />Next week could be interesting, mind. Were we gambling types, we'd put good money on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/17/cooking-guide-cant-decide-which-trailer-to-watch/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Cooking Guide: Can't Decide What to Eat?</span></a> (which <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/bloggers/alisha-karabinus/">two</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/bloggers/chris-greenhough">of</a> the Fanboy team have already purchased) and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/15/my-weight-loss-coach-boxart-lazy-or-fitting/"><span style="font-style: italic;">My Weight Loss Coach</span></a> doing pretty well, what with their angle on training and self-improvement (and Europe's baffling collective urge to improve itself). And what of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/18/konami-uses-comedians-to-advertise-new-international-track-and-fie/"><span style="font-style: italic;">New International Track &amp; Field</span></a>? Well, as much as we'd <span style="font-style: italic;">like</span> it to do well, we can't see it leaving much of a dent. I mean, a track and field game starring famous characters and mascots from the franchises of a major gaming company? El-oh-el! The Wii edition of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lego-indiana-jones/830575/full/"><em>LEGO Indiana Jones: Original Adventures</em></a> showed <span style="font-style: italic;">Grand Theft Auto IV</span> who was boss in the UK by nabbing top spot, and versions for other consoles charted well elsewhere on the continent. It's no surprise that <span style="font-style: italic;">LEGO Indy</span> did so well in Blighty -- we still recall the whole country tripping over itself in the rush to pick up the <span style="font-style: italic;">LEGO Star Wars</span> games. Evidently, the titles have that oft-discussed crossover appeal that most marketing types would slaughter their entire families for.<br /><br />On a sadder note, <span style="font-style: italic;">Mario Kart Wii</span> bowed out of the Dutch and UK top tens, <span style="font-style: italic; text-decoration: line-through;">Deca Sports</span> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/12/deca-sporta-coming-to-europe-in-mid-2008-with-new-uninspiring-n/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Sports Island</span></a> only reached 15th in Britain, and <span style="font-style: italic;">Wii Fit</span> is keeping up its disappearing act ... everywhere but Germany. So much for your <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/28/nintendo-pledges-more-wii-fit-stock-to-uk/">empty, empty promises</a>, Nintendo! Oh, and the Spanish charts failed to materialize this week, probably because they're all busy gawking at the <a href="http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/euro_2008/7363430.stm">footy</a>. <br /><br />Check out what Europe is buying past the break, and don't forget to join us next week, when we'll be sulking about how nobody bought <span style="font-style: italic;">Okami</span>.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/14/another-week-in-europe/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Another Week in Europe</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/14/another-week-in-europe/">Another Week in Europe</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 14 Jun 2008 20:00:00 EST. <br />Everybody knows that Europe is frequently treated like a second-class citizen of the gaming world, and one of the best examples of this is <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/24/european-dates-for-etrian-odyssey-lol-pokemon-explorers/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Etrian Odyssey</span></a>, which was finally released in Euroland last week, <span style="font-style: italic;">a whole damn year</span> (and then some) after it arrived in the States. Predictably enough, it's not appeared in one European chart during its opening week, but are we surprised? Are we heck. Anybody with a serious interest in <span style="font-style: italic;">Etrian Odyssey</span> would have already imported the game, completed it, and be looking forward to importing <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/28/etrian-odyssey-ii-details-and-videos/">the second title</a>. In fact, this sort of makes the European release feel futile; you have to wonder <span style="font-style: italic;">why they even bother in the first place</span>. Oh, woe, woe.<br /><br />It's not as though much else is selling on our beloved handheld, either -- even though the Spanish charts weren't released in time for this week's update, the current charts are worryingly low on DS software. Hit the break to see what we mean.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/14/another-week-in-europe/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Another Week in Europe</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/14/another-week-in-europe/">Another Week in Europe</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 14 Jun 2008 20:00:00 EST. This week it's the <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com">PS3</a> and <a href="http://xbox.joystiq.com">Xbox 360</a> versions of Codemasters' <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/28/buy-race-driver-grid-dress-like-a-square/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Race Driver: GRID</span></a> that have mostly disrupted the standings (note: the DS iteration didn't appear in any charts), forcing <span style="font-style: italic;">Dr. Kawashima's Brain Training</span> to <span style="font-style: italic;">actually drop out of the UK top ten</span> for the first time in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/12/brain-training-celebrates-100th-week-in-uk-charts/">several months</a> (though the polygonal prof has still performed respectably in Ireland, Holland, and Germany).<br /><br />That aside, it's mainly all about Mario where DS games are concerned. The plumber has <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/09/rub-pull-ogle-new-mario-and-sonic-screens/">sprinted</a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/new-super-mario-bros">jumped</a>, and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/mario-kart">karted</a> his way into a number of Euro charts, and it was also nice to see <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/27/phantom-hourglass-gashapon-does-not-help-our-financial-situation/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Phantom Hourglass</span></a> rise back into the UK top 30 (it's currently 28th). Next week, we'll see if European folk have the stomach for an <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/24/european-dates-for-etrian-odyssey-lol-pokemon-explorers/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Etrian Odyssey</span></a> (yes, <span style="font-style: italic;">the first one</span>), though we suspect that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/20/lego-indy-dated-exclusive-ds-features-revealed/"><span style="font-style: italic;">LEGO Indiana Jones</span></a> is more likely to register high on the chart.<br /><br />Make the jump for this week's full rundown of numbers from Europe!<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/07/another-week-in-europe/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Another Week in Europe</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/07/another-week-in-europe/">Another Week in Europe</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 07 Jun 2008 18:00:00 EST. <div align="left"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/cant-find-wii-fit-try-these-alternatives/845581/">Finding a copy of <em>Wii Fit</em></a> has become increasingly similar to a particularly frustrating edition of <em>Where's Waldo?</em> here in Europe. After totally <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/28/nintendo-pledges-more-wii-fit-stock-to-uk/">disappearing</a> from the UK's top 40 <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/31/another-week-in-europe/">last week</a>, it's now also vanished from the Dutch charts, and dropped several places in Ireland, Sweden, Denmark, and Spain. The only place that <span style="font-style: italic;">is </span>getting the title seems to be Germany, where it sits at the top of the charts. Way to distribute evenly, Nintendo of Europe!<br /><br />Away from the <em>Wii Fit famine</em>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/30/sega-superstars-tennis-piles-on-the-jet-set-radio-references/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Sega Superstars Tennis</span></a> continues to yo-yo its way through the British charts (up this week from 24th to 9th), <span style="font-style: italic;">Wii Play</span> is still flying high in Spain, Ireland, and Britain, while the rest of the Wii games to have charted all feature Mario, and include <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/mario-galaxy"><span style="font-style: italic;">Galaxy</span></a>, <a style="font-style: italic;" href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/mario-kart">Kart</a>, and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/mario-and-sonic">that <span style="font-style: italic;">Olympics</span> one</a> that will <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/02/sega-and-uk-still-not-sick-of-mario-and-sonic/">never, ever, ever, ever go away</a>.<br /><br />As usual, full charts follow the break.</div>

Wii pair <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/wii-fit/731093/full/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Wii Fit</span></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/category/game-night/">Game Night</a> favorite <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/25/wii-fanboy-review-mario-kart-wii/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Mario Kart Wii</span></a> are close behind in most places (because we're optimists, we're now going to consider third as the new first), though yours truly would love to know where <span style="font-style: italic;">anybody</span> is finding <span style="font-style: italic;">Mario Kart</span> in the UK -- I hit the high street to find a copy for a friend a few days back, with zero success.<br /><br />Further down the charts, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/07/metareview-boom-blox/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Boom Blox</span></a> made (what could almost be described as) an impact in its second week on sale, soaring from outside the Top 40 to 19th in the UK, while <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/09/the-hidden-emotional-depths-of-super-mario-galaxy/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Super Mario Galaxy</span></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/12/uk-duo-get-world-record-playing-guitar-hero-iii-in-uk/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Guitar Hero III</span></a> rejoined the top ten in Holland and Sweden respectively. <br /><span style="font-style: italic;">Didja hear?</span> Doctor Who is back from the future to save the DS in Europe! Hurray!<br /><br />Haha. Not really. In fact, even though <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/06/doctor-who-stars-in-an-appropriately-british-game"><span style="font-style: italic;">Top Trumps: Doctor Who</span></a> is the only new Nintendo DS game to appear in a European chart this week, it still only managed a risible 33rd spot in the UK. Still, that should keep you <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/06/doctor-who-stars-in-an-appropriately-british-game/#c12007998">David Tennant fans</a> happy, and we even included a shot of Dave to aid your celebrations. Aren't we nice?<br /><br />Aside from that, it's the usual tiresome faces, which means lots of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/12/brain-training-celebrates-100th-week-in-uk-charts/">Professor Kawashima</a> and ... actually not so much of Mario and Sonic. Yep, there's no doubt about it: the pair's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/12/ds-fanboy-review-mario-and-sonic-at-the-olympic-games/">Olympics game</a> is slowly dropping off the pace, appearing in only two top tens this week.<br /><br />As usual, hit the break to peruse the charts, though please accept our profuse apologies for the lack of an Irish top ten.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/24/another-week-in-europe/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Another Week in Europe</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/24/another-week-in-europe/">Another Week in Europe</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 24 May 2008 15:30:00 EST. <div style="text-align: left;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/wii-fit/731120/full/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Wii Fit</span></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/25/wii-fanboy-review-mario-kart-wii/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Mario Kart Wii</span></a> continue to fly the flag for the Wii in Europe, with the former appearing in every European top ten this week. <span style="font-style: italic;">Mario &amp; Sonic</span> also put in a characteristically strong performance, while <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/29/the-rabbids-show-us-how-to-use-the-balance-board/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Rayman Raving Rabbids 2</span></a> (ninth in the UK) and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=mario+party+8&amp;searchsubmit="><span style="font-style: italic;">Mario Party 8</span></a> (tenth in Holland) seem to be enjoying a second burst of shelf life after their release last year.<br /><br />But heck, you can tell all that simply by inspecting the charts after the post break. What you probably <span style="font-style: italic;">won't</span> remember is that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/07/metareview-boom-blox/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Boom Blox</span></a> launched in Europe this week, yet never threatened any of Europe's top tens/twenties/forties; looks like this Spielbergian gem has been given the same frosty reception by consumers that it experienced in the U.S. Weaksauce (as my American colleagues might say)! It's sadly ironic, really -- EA's best game for donkey's years, and it's not even charted.</div>

Hey, you! No, not the guy on the next screen along with the muffin -- <em>you</em>. That's right. You a European? You are? Great! So let's hear it: why have we just checked the latest European charts and found that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/28/ds-fanboy-review-apollo-justice-ace-attorney/"><em>Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney</em></a> charted <span style="font-style: italic;">absolutely nowhere</span>? If yours truly can summon up the the effort to <strike>scour the high street</strike> give his credit card details to an online retailer, you can do the same! No wonder Capcom seems to be <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/13/has-phoenix-wright-3-been-removed-from-the-docket-in-europe/">thinking twice</a> about releasing <em>Trials and Tribulations</em> here.<br /><br />And now look what you've done! There are bits of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/12/brain-training-celebrates-100th-week-in-uk-charts/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Brain Training</span></a> and <span style="font-style: italic;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/12/ds-fanboy-review-mario-and-sonic-at-the-olympic-games/">Mario and Sonic</a> everywhere</span>! Somebody who's smart and savvy. Somebody who won't stand down, even in the face of immeasurable odds. Ladies and gentlemen, we present you with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/28/ds-fanboy-review-apollo-justice-ace-attorney/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Apollo Justice</span></a>, ace attorney and star of next week's DS releases. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/29/capcom-europe-objects-to-sequential-order/">Series continuity</a> be damned, we want a high position for this! Yep, it's another week of gray, predictable drudgery when it comes to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/another-week-in-europe">sales of DS software</a>.<br /><br />All you truly need to know is that <span style="font-style: italic;">More Mario &amp; Dr. Kawashima's Olympics Training</span> sold really, really well, and almost everything we care about didn't. Except for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/animal-crossing"><span style="font-style: italic;">Animal Crossing: Wild World</span></a>, which popped in to the German top ten, and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/mario-kart"><span style="font-style: italic;">Mario Kart DS</span></a>, which secured eighth place in Ireland, and fifth in Germany. And guess what? It's more or less the same story throughout the rest of Europe.<br /><br />The Irish are shedding the Guinness pounds, the Germans are working off those br&auml;twurst, and Sweden ... well, we don't really have a lazy, go-to food stereotype for the Swedes. Anyhow, the point is: they're all loving it, and if <span style="font-style: italic;">Wii Fit</span> doesn't appear in a chart (see: Spain, Denmark), it's probably because a country hasn't got it yet, or the charts have fallen behind.<br /><br />Mind you, don't expect any of this Nintendo dominance to last: next week's charts are guaranteed to be all about <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/Grand-Theft-Auto-IV/">one game</a> (yet we suspect <span style="font-style: italic;">Wii Fit</span> might <span style="text-decoration: line-through;">give you</span> have better legs than <span style="font-style: italic;">GTA IV</span> in the long-term). We would love to suggest that this madness will end soon, but <em>Brain Training</em> has been around these parts for almost two years now, while the for-real Olympics will surely only boost people's interest in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/16/mario-and-sonic-will-destroy-your-touch-screen/">assaulting</a> their DS's poor touch screen. In a word: <span style="font-style: italic;">gah</span>.<br /><br />More pleasingly, there's been a mini-renaissance for (of all games) <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/mario-kart"><span style="font-style: italic;">Mario Kart DS</span></a>. Sales of the game rose in the UK, Ireland, France, Germany, and Sweden, and we're pinning this sudden rebirth on the success of <em>Mario Kart Wii</em>, which continues to run down the opposition at an alarming pace. Then reverse back over it, just to make sure.<br /><br />More charts await your attention past the break, though we're sorry to say that the Spanish top ten is taking a siesta this week (see what we did there?). With any luck, it'll be back next Saturday.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/26/another-week-in-europe/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Another Week in Europe</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/26/another-week-in-europe/">Another Week in Europe</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 26 Apr 2008 17:00:00 EST. Surely the rise of <span style="font-style: italic;">Mario Kart DS</span> to 8th in Ireland, 8th in France, and 7th in Germany can't all be a mere coincidence? By our reckoning, <span style="font-style: italic;">Mario Kart Wii</span> has ramped up Europe's interest in <span style="font-style: italic;">Mario Kart</span> <span style="font-style: italic;">generally</span>. Fortunately, <span style="font-style: italic;">Mario Kart DS</span> is the bee's knees!<br /><br />Finally, this week's overachiever award goes to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/19/metareview-sega-superstars-tennis/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Sega Superstars Tennis</span></a> -- despite the Wii version's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/13/no-online-in-sega-superstar-tennis-wii-because-of-time-constrai/">lack of online play</a>, Sega's tennis/blue skies extravaganza climbed to <span style="font-style: italic;">fourth</span> in the UK. We thought we were friends. Sure, you and us Brits had that <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_hastings">silly tiff</a> back in 1066, but since then you've brought us nothing but joy. Think <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hans_Christian_Andersen">Hans Christian Anderson</a>, Danish bacon, and <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FiOVeDNtcNg">Peter Schmeichel</a>.<br /><br />But now look what you've gone and done: on its debut week, you've relegated <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mario-kart-wii"><em>Mario Kart Wii</em></a> -- top in every other European chart -- to <em>second place</em>.<br /><br />Still, we suspect it won't matter in the greater scheme of things. All that needs to be known is that <em>Mario Kart </em>came, it saw, and it emphatically conquered, leaving closest rival <em>Gran Turismo 5: Prologue </em>choking on its cartoony exhaust fumes. Seeing whether it has legs over the next few weeks should prove interesting. <em><br />Featuring charts from across the region, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/another-week-in-europe">Another Week in Europe</a> documents the buying habits and quirky tastes of a whole continent of DS lovers.<br /><br /></em>The emergence of <em>Mario Kart Wii</em> this week<em> </em>caused tremors throughout the charts, something that didn't bode well for the DS. Apparently, training your brain has become a far less appealing pastime now that you can perform cartwheels on a bike as a giant ape, whereas <span style="font-style: italic;">Mario &amp; Sonic</span> could only hang on to third spot pretty much ... everywhere. As usual, the MIA titles are a greater source of interest, with <span style="font-style: italic;">Assassin's Creed</span> failing to chart anywhere on its opening week.<br /><br />Next week sees a sudden rush of shovelware (and we bet <span style="font-style: italic;">The Sun Crossword Challenge</span> does really well, depressingly), and <span style="font-style: italic;">The World Ends With You</span>.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/19/another-week-in-europe/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Another Week in Europe</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/19/another-week-in-europe/">Another Week in Europe</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 19 Apr 2008 13:30:00 EST. <em><br />Featuring charts from across the region, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/another-week-in-europe">Another Week in Europe</a> documents the buying habits and quirky tastes of a whole continent of DS lovers.<br /><br /></em>Old Kawashima's not wrong, you know -- well, as far as the DS goes anyway. Y'see, Europe is <span style="font-style: italic;">all about Gran Turismo 5: Prologue</span> this week, but when it comes to Nintendo's handheld, the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/31/dr-kawashima-too-busy-being-in-games-to-play-them-or-take-money/">not-for-profits Prof</a> (along with <span style="font-style: italic;">Mario &amp; Sonic</span>) is making sure no other DS game gets a look-in. Oh sure, you have your <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/10/add-cooking-mama-2-to-your-sushi-eating-experience/"><em>Cooking Mama 2</em></a>s and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/new-super-mario-bros"><em>New Super Mario Bros.</em></a>s sniffing around the fringes and <span style="font-style: italic;">occasionally </span>racking up a top ten spot, but other than that, there's little resistance. So here's to next week, when hopefully <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/11/metareview-assassins-creed/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Assassin's Creed: Altair's Chronicles</span></a> will make a dent in this tedium.<br /><br />Oh, and if you're reading, Germany: <em>Who Wants to be a Millionaire</em>? <em>Seriously</em>?<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/12/another-week-in-europe/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Another Week in Europe</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/12/another-week-in-europe/">Another Week in Europe</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 12 Apr 2008 14:00:00 EST. Fittingly, the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/another-week-in-europe">European sales charts</a> are full of the joys of spring themselves!<br /><br />Wait, no, hold on, we're lying again. Must stop lying. In reality, they're still pretty much unchanged from last week, with the one notable exception being <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/06/metareview-master-of-illusion/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Magic Made Fun</span></a> (known as <span style="font-style: italic;">Master of Illusion</span> in the U.S.) which debuted on the continent this week, where it reached 8th in Germany, and 7th in Spain -- we expected a little more from this sorcery sim, considering its catch-all appeal. <br /><br />Anyhow, here's to April, when <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/30/europe-will-wait-to-assassinate/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Assassin's Creed</span></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/21/draglade-to-launch-in-europe-in-march/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Draglade</span></a>, and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/06/the-world-ends-with-you-gets-pal-release-date-new-shots/"><span style="font-style: italic;">The World Ends With You</span></a> should arrive to help shake things up. And by "little," we mean "<span style="font-style: italic;">nothing</span>." Indeed, Ubisoft's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/08/ubisoft-s-double-standard-for-awful-game-titles/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Imagine: Babies</span></a> is actually the highest new DS entrant in the UK (30th), Ireland (10th), and France (11th). Two factors have led us to this conclusion: the recent chart-topping success of cow-brained murder-fest <span style="font-style: italic;">Army of Two</span> (and now Ubisoft tactical shooter <span style="font-style: italic;">Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas 2</span>), and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/30/wii-fanboy-review-no-more-heroes/"><span style="font-style: italic;">No More Heroes</span></a>' sudden disappearance from <span style="font-style: italic;">every European chart going</span>, a week after it launched.<br /><br />For other Wii games, meanwhile, it's been a week of mixed fortunes. On the plus side, <a href="http://marioandsonic.sega-europe.com/en/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Mario &amp; Sonic</span></a> continues to hold its own, by making the top five in the UK, Ireland, Holland, France, and Spain, and it looks like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/27/point-counterpoint-the-worth-of-wii-play/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Wii Play</span></a> is finally getting restocked, as it came from nowhere to reach 5th in Germany, 11th in Ireland, and 7th in the UK.<br /><br />Less positively, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/19/metareview-sega-superstars-tennis/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Sega Superstars Tennis</span></a> made all the impact of a kitten breaking wind, managing only 12th place in Sonic-mad Britain. This week's chart from the land of the br&auml;twurst will make <span style="font-style: italic;">excellent </span>reading for Nintendo of Europe. Not only is <span style="font-style: italic;">Super Mario Galaxy</span> showing it has legs by making an appearance in the top ten, but the top nine -- <span style="font-style: italic;">NINE!</span> -- spots are occupied by DS titles. The presence of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/02/21/the-new-super-mario-bros-rubix-cube/"><span style="font-style: italic;">New Super Mario Bros.</span></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/mario-kart"><span style="font-style: italic;">Mario Kart DS</span></a>, and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/03/30/custom-painted-animal-crossing-ds/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Animal Crossing Wild World</span></a> speaks volumes for the <span style="font-style: italic;">proud German people</span>. With all of this in mind, a picture of one of Germany's favorite icons seemed like the only appropriate image for this week's edition of Another Week in Europe. Plus, we totally love <em>Knight Rider</em>.<br /><br />Elsewhere, there's a significant DS presence in the UK, Irish, and Dutch charts, while <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/20/baby-pals-creeps-the-hell-out-of-us/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Baby Pals</span></a> could only crawl to a humbling 25th spot in Britain. Suddenly, everything seems <span style="font-style: italic;">right</span> with the world. Full charts (minus the Spanish one, which failed to materialize this week) await you after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/22/another-week-in-europe/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Another Week in Europe</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/22/another-week-in-europe/">Another Week in Europe</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 22 Mar 2008 12:00:00 EST.
