Announced <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/23/game-music-superstars-contribute-new-music-to-play-for-japan-a/">last May</a> and originally slated for a June release, <em>Play For Japan: The Album</em> is finally available for your listening pleasure. The album features original tracks by 18 of gaming history's greatest composers, including <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/silent-hill"><em>Silent Hill</em>'s</a> Akira Yamaoka, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/metal-gear-solid-4"><em>Metal Gear Solid 4</em></a>'s Nobuko Toda, and if you buy the album from iTunes, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/super-mario-bros"><em>Super Mario Bros.</em></a>'s Koji Kondo.<br />
<br />
The album is already available via iTunes in the US, Canada, and UK, and will be available everywhere else (from iTunes <em>and</em> Amazon) starting July 15. It costs $9.99 USD, one hundred percent of which benefits the Japanese Red Cross' efforts in rebuilding Japan's infrastructure. It also benefits your eardrums. The full track listing is after the jump.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/09/play-for-japan-the-album-helps-rebuild-japan-available-now/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Play For Japan: The Album helps rebuild Japan, available now</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/09/play-for-japan-the-album-helps-rebuild-japan-available-now/">Play For Japan: The Album helps rebuild Japan, available now</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 09 Jul 2011 19:00:00 EST. The 2011 tornado season has been one of the <a href="http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/05/26/us-weather-tornadoes-records-idUSTRE74P77Z20110526">deadliest in recorded history</a>, with hundreds dead and thousands of lives irrevocably changed across the face of the south-east. <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tornadoes_of_2011">Over 1,100 confirmed tornadoes</a> have been recorded so far, and the official season hasn't even ended yet.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.thespeedgamers.com/">The Speed Gamers</a>, never ones to rest on their laurels, are once again pledging hundreds of hours of their lives to continuous, charitable gaming. From <em>right now</em> through July 18, TSG will be plowing through a that's-no-moon-sized pile of 25-plus Star Wars games, from <em>Rogue Squadron</em> to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/lego-star-wars"><em>Lego Star Wars</em></a> and everything in-between. That's <em>168 hours</em> of gaming, with 100 percent of donations going to <a href="http://www.directrelief.org/">Direct Relief International</a>. The group aims to raise $30,000 in total, which would bring their lifetime charitable contributions to over $300,000. Hit the source link to find out how you can help, and also how much Jar-Jar Binks someone can take before all of their internal organs shut down.<br />

If you've kept up with the game delays and cancellations that happened as a result of the catastrophic earthquake which struck Japan last month, you probably understand the extent of its effect on the gaming industry. Enterbrain CEO Hirokazu Hamamura recently <a href="http://sankei.jp.msn.com/economy/news/110415/biz11041518460028-n1.htm">put a number</a> on the devastation: At a recent seminar, Hamamura revealed that according to Enterbrain's calculations, the quake caused the domestic games industry to lose &yen;7,330 million ($90 million) in potential sales.<br />
<br />
That number was divided into
<meta charset="utf-8" />
&yen;4,470 million in lost software sales -- attributed to the delay of <em>Steel Diver</em>, <em>Dead or Alive Dimensions</em> and 29 other titles that were either <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/14/yakuza-of-the-end-motorstorm-apocalypse-delayed-in-japan-dis/">pushed back or canceled</a> wholesale -- and
<meta charset="utf-8" />
&yen;2,860 million in lost hardware sales. Hamamura ended the seminar with a hopeful message, though, explaining that most of the delayed titles had been pushed back to the first quarter of the new fiscal year, which could prove to be a boon for Japan's gaming industry. We certainly hope that's the case as well.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/22/enterbrain-ceo-earthquake-cost-the-japanese-game-industry-7-3-b/">Enterbrain CEO: Earthquake cost the Japanese game industry 7.3 billion yen</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 22 Apr 2011 00:00:00 EST. <a href="http://www.teamfortress.com/post.php?id=5254&amp;p=">Valve has announced</a> the total sum brought in during its two-week <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/team-fortress-2"><em>Team Fortress 2</em></a> charity drive, which sold three limited edition in-game hats to raise funds for the Japanese disaster relief fund. The amount is beyond incredible: In just 14 days, the <em>TF2</em> community gave $430,543.65 to aid in recover efforts following the devastating earthquake which hit Japan on March 11.<br />
<br />
If you managed to miss out on this promotion, don't worry -- much like the charitable <em>Team Fortress 2</em> hats pictured above, donating to the <a href="https://american.redcross.org/site/Donation2?5052.donation=form1&amp;df_id=5052&amp;idb=0">Red Cross' Japanese disaster relief efforts</a> never goes out of style.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/09/team-fortress-2-hats-raise-430-000-for-japan/">Team Fortress 2 hats raise $430,000 for Japan</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 09 Apr 2011 14:30:00 EST. We usually tint stories about in-game digital goods that people bought with out-of-game, for-real money with notes of disbelief -- but for this particular post, we've got nothing but heartwarming respect. The <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/24/team-fortress-2-hats-help-japan-relief-effort/">three hats</a> recently added to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/team-fortress-2"><em>Team Fortress 2</em></a>, available for a charitable donation of $7.99, $19.99 or $99.99, <a href="http://www.teamfortress.com/post.php?id=5199&amp;p=1">have pulled in over $300,000</a> in just one week for disaster relief in Japan.<br />
<br />
You've got time to bump that total up even more. The Humanitarian's Hachimaki, Benefactor's Kanmuri and Magnanimous Monarch (pictured above) will be available until April 4. We guarantee that they're stylin', profilin' and remarkably altruistic.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/30/team-fortress-2-in-game-hats-raise-300k-for-quake-relief/">Team Fortress 2 in-game hats raise $300k for quake relief</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 30 Mar 2011 19:00:00 EST. Companies, organizations and individuals connected to the games industry continue to come forward with offers of support for the ongoing rescue and relief operations in Japan. We'll be collecting the latest opportunities to lend a hand in end-of-day roundups like this one as they're announced.<br />

Head past the break for details on the today's happenings. If you'd prefer to donate to the efforts directly, you can always do so through the American Red Cross (<a href="http://www.redcross.org">www.redcross.org</a>).<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/21/japan-relief-roundup-league-of-legends-and-a-special-final-fant/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Japan relief roundup: League of Legends and a special Final Fantasy Tactics</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/21/japan-relief-roundup-league-of-legends-and-a-special-final-fant/">Japan relief roundup: League of Legends and a special Final Fantasy Tactics</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 21 Mar 2011 23:30:00 EST. Being a big gaming site, we can kinda lose sight of what's going on outside of the gaming world. The situation in Japan right now is terrible, and rather than use the disaster to its advantage for some kind of publicity stunt or whatever, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/square-enix">Square Enix</a> is just flat-out donating money.<br />
<br />
The Square Enix Group is giving 100 million yen to the relief effort. Additionally, it will collect donations from its employees the world over, and will also solicit donations through "select Square Enix online services and the amusement facilities that TAITO operates across Japan."
