We're expecting Sony to officially announce and detail the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/psp2">successor</a> to the PSP <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/12/rumor-psp2-unveiling-in-tokyo-this-month-at-sony-business-meet/">later this week</a>. In the meantime, Japanese newspaper Nikkei is alleging a few early details. Firstly, the portable will supposedly feature an OLED screen. Secondly (and more importantly!), the system will support 3G data, enabling over-the-air multiplayer and video and game downloads. In Japan, the service will be offered by NTT DoCoMo. And although the PSP2 will connect to cellular service, it <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/22/sonys-hirai-on-the-challenges-of-differentiating-a-playstation/">won't make</a> phone calls -- that's left for the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/psp-phone">PSP Phone</a> to handle.<br />
<br />
The report doesn't detail possible charges for the 3G service and doesn't state whether there will be an option for a Wi-Fi only version. We'll be grilling Sony for all the details later this week.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/23/report-psp2-features-oled-screen-will-offer-3g-data/">Report: PSP2 features OLED screen, will offer 3G data</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 23 Jan 2011 17:15:00 EST. <p>As the mascot of Japanese cell phone company NTT docomo, Inc., Docomodake is obviously serious business in his homeland, as the above mountain of plushes, keychains, and cell phone straps attests. In Europe, the chubby mushroom is virtually unheard of, but that hasn't deterred Ignition, who announced this morning that they would bring <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/03/space-invaders-extreme-shows-up-on-esrb-database-along-with-misc/">Boing! Docomodake DS</a></em> to the region this fall (a listing for the game at Gamestop <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/05/more-retail-confirmation-of-elebits-2-docomodake/">exists</a>, suggesting a U.S. release is also likely).</p>
<p>Playing as Papa Docomodake, players must track down the other anthropomorphized fungi that make up the Docomodake family, and get them all back to a festival in the Docomodake Forest. To do this, he'll be able to deploy miniature mushrooms who can be used as projectiles to see off enemies, or to form makeshift platforms and ladders. It looks like a fairly light-hearted slice of platformy fun, not to mention cute -- the first screens are waiting for you in our <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/boing-docomodake-ds/947928/">gallery</a>.</p>

That listing has now been joined by one on Gamestop, with a similar title (minus the number) and an even closer date (August 1). Konami still has yet to make any announcements about a DS sequel to <em>Elebits</em> -- we were sure it would come out at their Gamers Day event, the same time <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/16/castlevania-trades-cards-for-glyphs/"><em>Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia</em></a> (itself the subject of protracted rumors) was revealed. <br /><br />Another noteworthy new addition to Gamestop's list of upcoming games: Ignition Entertainment's release of the cell-phone mascot platformer <em>Docomodake.</em> We knew from an ESRB rating that it was coming, but not when -- Gamestop says <a href="http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=71581">next February</a>. The new English title? <em>Docomodake BOING!</em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/05/more-retail-confirmation-of-elebits-2-docomodake/">More retail confirmation of Elebits 2, Docomodake</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 05 Jun 2008 09:30:00 EST. <span style="float: left; margin-right: 10px; margin-top: 7px;"><script> var digg_url = 'http://digg.com/gaming_news/New_non_Nintendo_Wii_phone_unveiled'; </script> <script src="http://digg.com/api/diggthis.js"></script></span> Are we missing something here? Mitsubishi's new DoCoMo D904i model phone has a motion sensor inside it, allowing, <a href="http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20070423/tc_nm/docomo_phones_dc">according to Reuters</a>, gaming like on the "popular <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/wii">Nintendo Wii</a> console." We wish we could <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/22/solar-powered-wii-lets-you-take-fun-out-in-the-sun/">play Wii outdoors</a> too, but never really hoped that the thing we were flailing around wildly could also be what we were watching the game on.<br /> <br />Actually, the actions look less pronounced than Wiimote movement on the <a href="http://www.nttdocomo.com/">DoCoMo site</a>, though we're still not super crazy about waving our expensive phone around like it was on fire. This isn't the first time Mitsubishi is trying something like this though (see their <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/01/17/ds-phone-not-by-nintendo/">DS-esque phone</a>), so maybe they've thought of the possibility of their phone becoming an extremely dull shuriken. (If so, can you share a little of that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/11/20/flying-wiimote-busts-60-tv/">non-slip love</a> with Nintendo?)<br /><br />There's no mention of whether the gadget will come to the U.S., but the Wii has garnered <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/11/perrin-kaplan-expects-wii-shortages-to-last-for-some-time/">a few fans</a> here, so maybe there's hope we could someday see DoCoMo <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/12/21/nintendo-responds-to-wii-strap-lawsuit/">injury lawsuits</a> on our shores.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/23/new-wii-like-phone-unveiled-everyone-else-ducks/">New Wii-like phone unveiled, everyone ducks</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 23 Apr 2007 09:56:00 EST. There's also an in-game points system, which encourages players to redeem their hard-earned points for ringtones and wallpapers. <em>Monotone</em> is currently available on Japan's DoCoMo network. In other words, you won't be playing it.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/11/06/monotone-square-enix-colors-the-mobile-kingdom/">Monotone: Square-Enix colors the mobile kingdom</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 06 Nov 2006 18:25:00 EST.
