<br />
It may have taken <em>awhile</em> for <em>Duke Nukem Forever </em>to launch, but mere months later the first <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/10/duke-nukem-forever-dlc-introduces-the-doctor-who-cloned-me-this/">single-player DLC</a> for the game has been released. On top of that, PSN also kicks off its Holiday Collection today, a promotion that discounts select game bundles and content from the top PSN performers this year.<br />
<br />
This week's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/05/free-tomb-raider-underworld-marvel-pinball-for-ps-plus-members/">free game for PlayStation Plus subscribers</a> is <em>Marvel Pinball</em>, and there's a <em>KOF XIII </em>demo available for download. The full list of what's available this week can be found over on the PlayStation Blog.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/13/psn-tuesday-duke-nukem-forever-dlc-holiday-collection-2011/">PSN Tuesday: Duke Nukem Forever DLC, Holiday Collection 2011</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 13 Dec 2011 19:58:00 EST. To be honest, we thought Duke's DNA was too invincible to be cloned, but here we are. A new set of DLC for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/duke-nukem-forever"><em>Duke Nukem Forever</em></a> drops on Tuesday, adding new single-player and multiplayer content. Dr. Proton has cloned Duke in Area 51 and now Duke's gotta eradicate 'em all. Sounds like par for the course.<br />
<br />
On the multiplayer side, The Doctor Who Cloned Me also adds four new multiplayer maps to the game: Sky High, Command, Drop Zone and Biohazard. You can see some images of the DLC in our gallery below.<br />

Starting today and continuing through November 27, Valve will offer daily discounts and deals on many, many titles in honor of the holiday. Such is the plight of the Steam user.<br />
<br />
Kicking off the sale today are a myriad of games including recent releases <em>Orcs Must Die!</em>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/portal-2"><em>Portal 2</em></a> and, uh, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/duke-nukem-forever"><em>Duke Nukem Forever</em></a>. There are even a few games under $4, and one is actually a bunch of games together: <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/25/new-oddworld-on-hold-old-oddworlds-coming-to-steam-this-year/">The Oddboxx</a>. </em>Yet another highlight is the <em>Sam &amp; Max Collection</em>, a bundle of the first three seasons ending with the <em>The Devil's Playhouse, </em>for $12.49.<br />
<br />
Valve will be switching up what's on sale every day, so ... be careful.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/23/cheap-portal-2-orcs-must-die-in-steams-autumn-sale/">Cheap Portal 2, Orcs Must Die! in Steam's 'Autumn Sale'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 23 Nov 2011 14:40:00 EST. Autumnal consumerism is usually linked with holidays based around turkeys and/or trees, but that hasn't stopped Amazon from conjuring up some <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html/ref=br_lf_m_1000733571_pglink_1?ie=UTF8&amp;plgroup=1&amp;docId=1000733571&amp;plpage=1">scary-good deals</a> to celebrate All Hallow's Eve.<br />
<br />
The available gambit of creepy-eepy savings is fairly all-inclusive, ranging from Halloweenish gore-fests like <em>Dead Island</em>,<em> Rise of Nightmares</em> and<em> Left 4 Dead</em>, to the more subtle, yet still emotionally horrifying <em>Catherine</em>. There are a few odd-balls in there like <em>Dead or Alive Dimensions</em> and <em>Duke Nukem Forever</em>, although we suppose Duke is terrifying in a more abstract sense of the word. <p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/23/spooky-savings-amazons-un-boo-lievable-halloween-sale/">Spooky Savings: Amazon's 'Un-BOO-lievable' Halloween sale</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 23 Oct 2011 11:30:00 EST. Want more <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/duke-nukem-forever"><em>Duke Nukem Forever</em></a>? We're not judging, and neither is Gearbox, who will offer the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/26/duke-nukem-forever-first-dlc/">"Hail to the Icons" Parody Pack</a> next week -- October 11, to be specific. The DLC adds three new multiplayer modes: Freeze Tag, Hail to the King, and Hot Potato ("See who can hold on to the babe the longest," the description reads, testing our ability to withhold judgement). It also offers four new maps, parodying popular FPS games.<br />
<br />
If you're in the "First Access Club," this is all free. If you're in the much less exclusive club of "everyone else," it's $10 or 800 Microsoft Points, plus the cost of bubblegum.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/06/hail-to-the-duke-nukem-forever-dlc-next-week/">Hail to the Duke Nukem Forever DLC next week</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 06 Oct 2011 00:30:00 EST. "Despite its disappointing reviews, <em>Duke Nukem Forever</em> was profitable for Take-Two," company CEO Strauss Zelnick told investors during a conference call this evening. While disappointing might be a nice way of describing most of the game's reviews (<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/10/duke-nukem-forever-review-fail-to-the-king-baby/">here's ours!</a>), it's no surprise that the title is selling well. After fourteen-years of waiting, audience interest in the title was massive and, poor reviews be damned, Duke earned a #2 spot on the month's NPD charts.<br />
<br />
While Take-Two didn't bankroll those fourteen years of development, the publisher did <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/15/take-two-suing-apogee-over-unfinished-duke-nukem-forever/">sue Apogee</a> over the unfinished game in 2009 claiming that it paid $12 million for the publishing rights to the title. The two <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/11/apogee-and-take-two-settle-duke-nukem-forever-lawsuit/">settled</a> in 2010 and then, just a few months later, Texas-based Gearbox Software <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/05/we-bought-duke-nukem-franchise-rights-transferred-from-3d-rea/">announced it had purchased the game</a>, the character, et al and resumed the publishing relationship with Take-Two.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/08/duke-nukem-forever-was-profitable-for-take-two-ceo-says/">'Duke Nukem Forever was profitable for Take-Two," CEO says</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 08 Aug 2011 19:30:00 EST. Say what you will about how well <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/duke-nukem-forever"><em>Duke Nukem Forever</em></a> treated the <em>Duke Nukem 3D</em> legacy, but one mechanic in particular is very un-Duke. Specifically, it's very strange that <em>Duke Nukem Forever</em> limits our brash hero's arsenal to a paltry two guns at a time.
<meta charset="utf-8" />
An upcoming patch aims to fix that.<br />
<br />
Community manager Chris Faylor stated on the <a href="http://forums.gearboxsoftware.com/showpost.php?p=2422571&amp;postcount=1">Gearbox forums</a> that updates based on user feedback are "in the works for all three platforms." Along with some other fixes and additions, the PC update will raise Duke's weapon limit from two to four. Faylor didn't confirm whether or not the weapon limit would be raised on the Xbox or PS3 versions, saying that details on the console updates should be announced "as they're finalized."<br />

<strong>Update:</strong> Sadly, it doesn't appear that the weapon expansion update will be coming to Xbox or PS3. We may not have liked Duke Nukem when we last hung out back in early June, but hey, now he's got a variety of thoroughly enjoyable hats -- we're easily swayed! And he'll be showing off that variety of hats in a handful of new <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/duke-nukem-forever"><em>Duke Nukem Forever</em></a> multiplayer maps and modes this fall, in the "Hail to the Icons" Parody Pack.<br />
<br />
As its name implies, the DLC parodies several games, which we'll allow you to decipher for yourself in the descriptions after the break (take a wild guess at which game those hats are poking fun at). Gearbox and 2K have yet to name a price or firm release date for the content, only giving it a "fall" window. But if you're <em>really</em> into checking the new stuff out as soon as you can, 2K Games is also holding a multiplayer event at its Novato, CA offices in early August -- the <a href="http://www.2kgames.com/blog/new-duke-nukem-forever-content-arriving-this-fall-come-play-at-2k-headquarters-august-4">main site</a> has details on how to get involved.<br />
<br />
And finally, we'd be remiss if we didn't remind you that if you joined the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/02/duke-nukem-forever-free-dlc/">developer's "First Access Club"</a> before <em>DNF</em> dropped back in June, the pack will be free when it eventually launches. We believe Duke would say, "Hell yeah." (But you know, it'd be all gravelly, because that's how he speaks.)<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/duke-nukem-forever-dlc-hail-to-the-icons/">Duke Nukem Forever DLC ('Hail to the Icons')</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/duke-nukem-forever-dlc-hail-to-the-icons/#4322950"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/07/stownscreenshot1720-12191_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/duke-nukem-forever-dlc-hail-to-the-icons/#4322952"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/07/stwofortscreenshot1720-12181-cropped_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/26/duke-nukem-forever-first-dlc/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Duke Nukem Forever getting fanciful hats (and new multiplayer modes/maps) this fall</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/26/duke-nukem-forever-first-dlc/">Duke Nukem Forever getting fanciful hats (and new multiplayer modes/maps) this fall</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 26 Jul 2011 19:30:00 EST. Yes, it's true. A startling (and vaguely insulting) number of American consumers ignored our <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/10/duke-nukem-forever-review-fail-to-the-king-baby/#review">review</a> and purchased <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/game/duke-nukem-forever">Duke Nukem Forever</a>,</em> rocketing it to the #2 position on the NPD sales charts for the month of June. Perhaps they just didn't want to ask for refunds on those 14-year-old pre-orders. The Duke occupies a position on the charts just under its equally retro (in a different way) Take-Two contemporary, <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/la-noire"><em>L.A. Noire</em></a>.<br />
<br />
Also notable on the sales charts is the debut of another time-lost title, <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/the-legend-of-zelda-ocarina-of-time-3d"><em>The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D</em></a>. At #5, it is the first 3DS exclusive to chart in the NPD top ten. Find the top ten best-selling games listed after the break.<br />
<br />
It's definitely a triumphant month for<em> the past</em>, as total game sales were down from $1.15 billion in June of 2010 to $1.03 billion in June of this year. Once again, however, Microsoft is happy, declaring its Xbox 360 the only console in the US to show year-over-year growth. The Xbox was the top-selling console with 507,000 units which Microsoft claims is "nearly twice as many units as other current-generation platforms" this month.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/14/june-npd-duke-nukem-forever-is-2/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>June NPD: Duke Nukem Forever is #2</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/14/june-npd-duke-nukem-forever-is-2/">June NPD: Duke Nukem Forever is #2</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 14 Jul 2011 18:30:00 EST. <em>"With sales data, it seems like *customers* love Duke. I guess sometimes we want greasy hamburgers instead of caviar..." </em>- <em>Gearbox CEO <a href="http://twitter.com/#!/DuvalMagic/status/81509576322727937">Randy Pitchford</a></em><br />
<br />
If Pitchford is right, the upcoming Mac version of <em>Duke Nukem Forever</em>, being readied for August by Aspyr Media, may require a marketing strategy for different tastes. A Hunch survey published a few months ago suggested that Mac users are 80 percent more likely than PC owners to <a href="http://blog.hunch.com/?p=45344">be vegetarian</a>.<br />
<br />
Before you spit out your <em>San Pellegrino Limonata</em> at the mere thought of playing Duke's repeatedly reheated entree on your Mac, let Aspyr President Michael Rogers remind you of the game's pedigree ingredients. "Duke Nukem Forever represents many of the best aspects of gaming: shooting aliens, saving ladies in distress, and great tag-lines," he says. "We think Mac gamers will love taking a bite of Duke's special pain cake."<br />
<br />
Well, if pain cake is anything like garrote cake, it's as vegi-friendly as it is deadly.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/27/duke-nukem-forever-becomes-a-big-mac-game-in-august/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Duke Nukem Forever becomes a big Mac game in August</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/27/duke-nukem-forever-becomes-a-big-mac-game-in-august/">Duke Nukem Forever becomes a big Mac game in August</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 27 Jun 2011 16:20:00 EST. <em>I've had all scales removed from Take-Two HQ since becoming <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/29/take-two-ceo-feder-quitting-to-travel-asia-zelnick-to-ceo/">CEO</a>. I have too much work to do and I can't be checking my buffness at every water fountain and copy machine (all of which had scale attachments). I do still check it after workouts and after a good cry, when I consume a pint of Chunky Monkey while reading Duke Nukem Forever reviews.</em><br />

We've given up trying to understand. <em>Zumba Fitness</em> is back atop the UK charts this week, a position it's enjoyed <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/09/zumba-fitness-back-on-top-of-uk-charts/">several</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/18/zumba-keeps-on-dancing-atop-uk-charts/">times</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/11/zumba-fitness-overtakes-crysis-2-for-top-uk-sales-spot/">before</a>. This latest ascension for <em>Zumba</em> was thanks to a 51 percent increase in sales of the Wii version. <a href="http://www.chart-track.co.uk/?i=1113&amp;s=1111">Chart-Track</a> doesn't provide an explanation for the sales boost ... probably because some things just can't be explained.<br />
<br />
<em>The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time</em> for 3DS enjoyed a second place debut on the charts, with around 20% of UK 3DS owners buying the title during its launch week. <em>Duke Nukem Forever</em> sales slipped 58 percent and the title drops two spots into third place for its second week at retail -- this hasn't quite <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/13/metareview-duke-nukem-forever/">been the glorious comeback for Nukem</a>.<br />
<br />
Other premieres last week were <em>Dungeon Siege 3</em> and <em>Alice: Madness Returns,</em> which charted at ninth and 13th, respectively. <em>Child of Eden</em>, the Kinect-enabled sensory experience <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/15/metareview-child-of-eden/">appreciated by critics</a>, debuted in 25th. Taste the purple of the UK top ten after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/20/zumba-fitness-regains-top-uk-sales-spot-ocarina-of-time-plays-s/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Zumba Fitness regains top UK sales spot; Ocarina of Time plays second fiddle</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/20/zumba-fitness-regains-top-uk-sales-spot-ocarina-of-time-plays-s/">Zumba Fitness regains top UK sales spot; Ocarina of Time plays second fiddle</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 20 Jun 2011 08:30:00 EST. Before you indulge that sudden, irresistible desire to purchase two recent PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 games, allow us to pass along some helpful information. Best Buy is offering a buy one, get one half-off deal on several PS3 and Xbox 360 games including <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/dirt-3"><em>Dirt 3</em></a>, <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/portal-2"><em>Portal 2</em></a>, <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/marvel-vs-capcom-3"><em>Marvel vs. Capcom 3</em></a>, <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/game/red-faction-armageddon">Red Faction: Armageddon</a></em>, and <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/crysis-2"><em>Crysis 2</em></a>.<br />
<br />
You could even double up on <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/game/duke-nukem-forever">Duke Nukem Forever</a> </em>and <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/homefront"><em>Homefront</em></a>, if that's what you're into for some reason. Regardless of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/13/metareview-duke-nukem-forever/">critical response</a> to the Duke, it's pretty impressive to get a 50% off deal on a brand new game like that ... right?<br />

The world has changed, but Duke Nukem remains the same ... for better or for worse, or for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/10/duke-nukem-forever-review-fail-to-the-king-baby/">worserer</a>. The legendary development of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/duke-nukem-forever">Duke Nukem Forever</a></em> has come to an end and it would seem that, unless you're mainlining nostalgia, the almost decade-and-a-half wait hasn't been worth it:<br />
<ul>
	<li>
		<a href="http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/06/10/duke-nukem-forever-review/">PC Gamer</a> <strong>(80/100):</strong> "I'm sure that years of anticipation will spoil <em>Duke Nukem Forever </em>for some-there's no getting around that at the end of that long road is only a good game and not an amazing one. It is what it is. He may not be at the top of his game, but even after all this time, Duke still knows how to party."</li>
	<li>
		<a href="http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/117/1175639p1.html">IGN</a> <strong>(55/100):</strong> "<em>Duke Nukem Forever</em> isn't a revitalization of the early days of the first-person shooter genre or a middle-finger to the increasingly complex and sophisticated nature of videogame entertainment. It's a muddled, hypocritical exercise in irritation with solid shooting mechanics and decent encounter design."</li>
	<li>
		<a href="http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/gamesblog/2011/jun/10/duke-nukem-forever-game-review">Guardian</a> <strong>(40/100):</strong> "A mark for nostalgia then - it's the Duke, after all - and one for the game. If this was 15 years in the making, it makes you wonder what they did for the other 14 years and 10 months."</li>
	<li>
		<a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-06-12-duke-nukem-forever-review">Eurogamer</a> <strong>(30/100):</strong> "For all his muscle and bravado, Duke Nukem is actually a fragile creature. His legacy is based on a specific combination of time and technology and a mercurial element of fun that simply doesn't lend itself to repetition, especially after so long in limbo. The appeal of Duke Nukem lives on. But your time and money would be better spent reliving his iconic past than bearing witness to this gruesomely mangled resurrection." <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/duke-nukem-forever-e3-2011/">Duke Nukem Forever (E3 2011)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/duke-nukem-forever-e3-2011/#4211705"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/dukeforevere3come-get-some_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/duke-nukem-forever-e3-2011/#4211706"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/dukeforevere3dam_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/duke-nukem-forever-e3-2011/#4211707"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/dukeforevere3forklift_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/duke-nukem-forever-e3-2011/#4211708"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/dukeforevere3gonna-stomp-you_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/duke-nukem-forever-e3-2011/#4211709"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/dukeforevere3minecave_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div></li>

After 14 years, it'd be sad if <em>Duke Nukem Forever</em> didn't enter Chart-Track's UK <a href="http://www.chart-track.co.uk/index.jsp?c=p/software/uk/latest/index_test.jsp&amp;ct=110015">All Formats chart</a> in the top spot. So, hail to the king, baby.<em> L.A. Noire</em> graciously slipped only one spot into second, despite a 54 percent drop in sales. We knew Rockstar's crime drama had a massive premiere, becoming the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/23/la-noire-becomes-uks-fastest-selling-new-ip/">UK's fastest-selling new IP</a>, but those debut numbers must have been massive to survive several large double-digit percentage sales declines the past few weeks and yet maintain such a high ranking. Rounding out the top three: <em>Zumba Fitness</em>, which only saw a 2 percent decline.<br />
<br />
Two other premieres made it into the top ten last week, with <em>inFamous 2</em> and <em>Red Faction: Armageddon</em> heroically taking spots four and eight, respectively. Check out the full UK top ten after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/13/duke-nukem-forever-is-all-outta-bubblegum-for-uk-charts/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Duke Nukem Forever is all outta bubblegum for UK charts</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/13/duke-nukem-forever-is-all-outta-bubblegum-for-uk-charts/">Duke Nukem Forever is all outta bubblegum for UK charts</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 13 Jun 2011 08:00:00 EST. The year was 1997, and I'd just begun writing about video games professionally. Like most of my fellow gamers, I was pretty excited when 3D Realms announced that it was working on a sequel to <em>Duke Nukem 3D</em>, the runaway PC hit that it had released just a year before. At my first E3, a year later, I saw the game running for the first time. Now, just as my 14th E3 has come and gone, I'm sitting at my computer having finally played the finished <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/duke-nukem-forever"><em>Duke Nukem Forever</em></a>. Yet it feels like I'm still in 1998.<br />
<br />
That's because <em>DNF</em> is, for better but <em>mostly</em> worse, perpetually stuck in the late 1990s. For all the delaying, the stalling, the drama surrounding the game, it's tough to say if any part of it has actually benefitted from the more than a decade of development. What has, at long last, been committed to a disc and placed into a box might have been alright a dozen years ago, but by today's standards it simply doesn't hold up.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/duke-nukem-forever-e3-2011/">Duke Nukem Forever (E3 2011)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/duke-nukem-forever-e3-2011/#4211705"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/dukeforevere3come-get-some_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/duke-nukem-forever-e3-2011/#4211706"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/dukeforevere3dam_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/duke-nukem-forever-e3-2011/#4211707"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/dukeforevere3forklift_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/duke-nukem-forever-e3-2011/#4211708"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/dukeforevere3gonna-stomp-you_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/duke-nukem-forever-e3-2011/#4211709"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/dukeforevere3minecave_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/10/duke-nukem-forever-review-fail-to-the-king-baby/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Duke Nukem Forever review: Fail to the King, Baby</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/10/duke-nukem-forever-review-fail-to-the-king-baby/">Duke Nukem Forever review: Fail to the King, Baby</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 10 Jun 2011 12:30:00 EST. No one likes to be stuck behind a velvet rope. As such, we couldn't abide the fact that the <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/duke-nukem-forever"><em>Duke Nukem Forever</em></a> is currently available only to a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/16/duke-nukem-forever-demo-lands-june-3-for-borderlands-goty-owners/">select few</a>, so we wrangled up the demo for ourselves and captured a little footage. Check out the video after the break and see what more than ten years has done for the Duke.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/04/video-duke-nukem-forever-early-access-demo-unzipped/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Video: Duke Nukem Forever early access demo unzipped</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/04/video-duke-nukem-forever-early-access-demo-unzipped/">Video: Duke Nukem Forever early access demo unzipped</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 04 Jun 2011 14:30:00 EST. It looks like <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/duke-nukem-forever"><em>Duke Nukem Forever</em></a> First Access Club members will be getting more than just an <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/16/duke-nukem-forever-demo-lands-june-3-for-borderlands-goty-owners/">early demo</a>. Gearbox <a href="http://www.gearboxity.com/content/view/650/36/">announced</a> today that members will also receive the first multiplayer add-on DLC free of charge. Further details are scarce, though Gearbox's Steve Gibson tells Joystiq that the DLC will be available "once it is complete," which should be sometime after <em>Duke Nukem Forever</em> launches.<br />

This one goes out to Tommy (now "Tom") Meredith. In 1997, the then 17-year-old borrowed his parent's car and, with a big grin and five dollars, drove over to the local EB Games to pre-order <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/duke-nukem-forever">Duke Nukem Forever</a></em>. Now 31, with a receding hairline, three kids (only two of which he's sure are his), a defaulted mortgage, divorce and a vasectomy later, he will finally be able to redeem that receipt. A receipt that not only represents an innocent time, but all the hopes and dreams of his younger self.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.gamepro.com/article/news/219705/gamestop-will-honor-all-duke-nukem-pre-orders-even-decade-old-ones/">GamePro</a> checked in with GameStop regarding pre-orders made back in the twilight years of Babbage's. The retailer simply encourages customers who pre-ordered over a year ago to verify their reservation with a local store prior to launch. As long as the customer has a receipt the company will "honor even those pre-orders taken long ago." All pre-order customers will receive <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/15/duke-nukem-forever-pre-order-bonuses-ripped-from-time/">Duke's Big Package</a>. And Tom Meredith will learn to smile again.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/30/gamestop-will-honor-duke-nukem-forever-pre-orders-from-simpler-t/">GameStop will honor Duke Nukem Forever pre-orders from simpler times</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 30 May 2011 16:45:00 EST. Normally, we wouldn't consider it news when a game "goes gold" in time for its appointed release date. But when the game in question is <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/duke-nukem-forever"><em>Duke Nukem Forever</em></a>, we feel compelled to report all evidence of an actual game -- with a modicum of skepticism, of course -- until the vulgar little adventure is in our very own hands.<br />
<br />
<meta charset="utf-8" />
"Today marks an amazing day in the annals of gaming lore, the day where the legend of Duke Nukem Forever is finally complete and it takes that final step towards becoming a reality," 2K president Christoph Hartmann said in the announcement, which boldly reiterates the June 10 and June 14 release dates worldwide and for North America, respectively.<br />
<br />
"Slow down, guy, the game's not out yet," we said in this post just now.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/24/duke-nukem-forever-has-gone-gold/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Duke Nukem Forever has gone gold</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/24/duke-nukem-forever-has-gone-gold/">Duke Nukem Forever has gone gold</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 24 May 2011 09:40:00 EST. 2K Games and Gearbox Software have just announced that members of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/duke-nukem-forever"><em>Duke Nukem Forever</em></a> "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/05/duke-nukem-forever-demo-access-included-with-borderlands-goty/">First Access Club</a>" -- those who purchased the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/borderlands"><em>Borderlands</em></a> Game of the Year Edition or pre-ordered <em>DNF</em> -- will be able to download the first-person <strike>rauncher</strike> shooter's demo on June 3. You should have received an email asking you to confirm which platform you'd like it on.<br />
<br />
Watch Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford drop the news after the break.<br />

<strong>Update:</strong> Adjusted post to reflect that pre-orders also get in on the demo.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/16/duke-nukem-forever-demo-lands-june-3-for-borderlands-goty-owners/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Duke Nukem Forever demo lands June 3 for Borderlands GOTY owners and pre-orders [update]</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/16/duke-nukem-forever-demo-lands-june-3-for-borderlands-goty-owners/">Duke Nukem Forever demo lands June 3 for Borderlands GOTY owners and pre-orders [update]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 16 May 2011 19:22:00 EST. We know that the Duke's been away for a good long while, but you can't say the guy doesn't feel guilty about it. He feels so bad, in fact, that for the simple task of pre-ordering his new game <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/duke-nukem-forever"><em>Duke Nukem Forever</em></a> through the OnLive service, he'll reward you with a free MicroConsole (an almost $100 value).<br />
<br />
...What's that? You say that they did something <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/04/armageddon-a-free-onlive-microconsole-with-red-faction-pre-order/">similar with <em>Red Faction: Armageddon</em></a> and this is more promotional stunt than heartfelt apology?<br />
<br />
Man, people were a lot more trusting in the 90s.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/11/pre-order-duke-nukem-forever-get-free-onlive-microconsole/">Pre-order Duke Nukem Forever, get free OnLive MicroConsole</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 11 May 2011 16:00:00 EST. Gearbox Software has announced plans to host its first-ever "Community Day" on June 11 in Dallas, Texas. The free event will take place at the Palladium Ballroom and feature several of the studio's games, along with developer panels.<br />
<br />
The event will give players a chance to try out <em>Duke Nukem Forever's</em> multiplayer several days before it's <em>alleged</em> release on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/24/duke-nukem-forever-delayed/">June 14</a>. Panel topics will span <em>Duke Nukem Forever, Borderlands, Aliens: Colonial Marines, Brothers in Arms</em> and additional subjects. The day will also see the "first public unveiling of never-before-seen materials by Gearbox."<br />
<br />
If you're interested in attending, you'll have to <a href="http://www.gearboxsoftware.com/communityday/#register">register</a> for the event. For out-of-towners, the registration form also lists <a href="http://www.gearboxsoftware.com/communityday/#hotels">several hotels</a> with discounted rates and complimentary shuttle service to the fiesta.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/10/gearbox-assembling-community-event-for-june-11/">Gearbox assembling community event for June 11</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 10 May 2011 21:30:00 EST. We always knew Duke's job was tough, but it looks like you can add one more responsibility to his list of duties (hehe, duties) in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/duke-nukem-forever"><em>Duke Nukem Forever</em></a>: killing clones. With so many Dukes running around recklessly, we get the need for a Duke cleaner-upper, but we'd be lying if we didn't say we fear some kind of Jet Li <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LiFZM4huHi0"><em>The One</em></a> type of invincible Super Duke rising from this conflict. Don't say we didn't warn you.<br />

Anyone who has experienced <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/duke-nukem-3d"><em>Duke Nukem 3D</em></a> undoubtedly has fond memories of the shrink ray. There's nothing quite as satisfying as shrinking an alien bastard and stepping on him with Duke's mighty boot. In <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/duke-nukem-forever"><em>Duke Nukem Forever</em></a>, however, it looks like the shoe is on the other (gigantic) foot.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/05/time-for-a-little-duke-nukem-forever-footage/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Time for a little Duke Nukem Forever footage</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/05/time-for-a-little-duke-nukem-forever-footage/">Time for a little Duke Nukem Forever footage</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 05 May 2011 19:15:00 EST. Gearbox has released the PC specifications for <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/duke-nukem-forever"><em>Duke Nukem Forever</em></a> and, unfortunately, you won't <em>quite</em> be able to get away with a 14-year-old graphics card. PC players can squeak by with one gig of RAM and either an Nvidia GeForce 7600 or an ATI Radeon HD 2600. Sorry, but it looks like its finally time for an upgrade from that <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voodoo_Graphics#Voodoo_Banshee">Voodoo Banshee</a>.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/03/duke-nukem-forever-pc-specs-released/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Duke Nukem Forever's PC specs released</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/03/duke-nukem-forever-pc-specs-released/">Duke Nukem Forever's PC specs released</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 03 May 2011 22:30:00 EST. Well, this is a surprise. After more than a decade of highlighting <em>Duke Nukem Forever's</em> infantile appeal, its creators have released a trailer that focuses on Duke's struggle with his own emotional journey through -- ha! Just kidding. Boobs and pee await in this NSFW trailer posted after the jump.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/22/duke-nukem-forever-trailer-is-highly-philosophical/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Duke Nukem Forever trailer is highly philosophical</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/22/duke-nukem-forever-trailer-is-highly-philosophical/">Duke Nukem Forever trailer is highly philosophical</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 22 Apr 2011 10:30:00 EST. Assuming you're not already holding on to a fourteen-year-old pre-order slip for <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/duke-nukem-forever"><em>Duke Nukem Forever</em></a>, Amazon just might have a deal for you. The online retailer is currently <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0029LJIFG">offering</a> a $10 video game credit with all pre-orders of the Duke's latest outing (which was recently delayed <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/24/duke-nukem-forever-delayed/"><em>again</em></a>, incidentally). The credit applies to all available platforms.<br />
<br />
If you plan on snagging a copy for the Xbox 360, you might also look into a new one-year Xbox Live Gold subscription, which Amazon is offering for $40, a savings of $20 over the usual price. After all, you can't play the new <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/21/duke-nukem-forevers-capture-the-babe-mode-is-a-slap-in-the-fa/">butt-slapping multiplayer</a> without Xbox Live, now can you?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/30/10-credit-with-duke-nukem-forever-cheap-xbox-live-gold-on-amaz/">$10 credit with Duke Nukem Forever, cheap Xbox Live Gold on Amazon</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 30 Mar 2011 16:40:00 EST. Finally, you can stop holding out hope for that <em>Soylent Green</em> game that'll enable the repeated, unnecessary slapping of women -- <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/duke-nukem-forever"><em>Duke Nukem Forever</em></a> has it covered. According to the latest <em>OXM</em>, Duke's next outing features four multiplayer modes, one of which (Capture the Babe) features a "babe" who will sporadically "freak out," which then necessitates "a reassuring slap," as the mag puts it.<br />
<br />
The piece attempts to reassure us -- thankfully sans slap -- that the act is "more goofy than offensive," though we're not sure how virtually slapping a "manic" female could be spun in an inoffensive way. Perhaps if your hand looked like the one in that Foo Fighters video for "Everlong," and her cheeks were actually balloons, and she was manic from eating too much sugar? <em>We just don't know</em>.<br />
<br />
Additionally, details on Dukematch and Team Dukematch were revealed -- they're both deathmatch modes, basically. "Hail to the King" rounds out the multiplayer with a King of the Hill-style mode, and all modes are limited to eight players (four vs four). Only one mode, however, allows for domestic violence.<br />
<br />
<strong>Update:</strong> The Redner Group clarified for us that Duke won't actually be slapping the "babe" in her face, as much as he'll be slapping her on the butt. We don't normally do erotica reviews here at Joystiq, but we thought the ESRB's freshman effort at the genre, "The <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/duke-nukem-forever"><em>Duke Nukem Forever</em></a> Ratings Summary," deserved our attention. Here are some of the hottest bits.
<blockquote class="bq-standard">
	During the course of the game, players enter a strip-club level and view several topless dancers and receive lap dances. A couple of missions within this level require players to recover sex toys and pictures of topless women.</blockquote>
We've seen worse starts. Here the author isn't showing us the sex explictly, but rather setting the scene for sex. Very hot.
<blockquote class="bq-standard">
	A few sequences strongly imply sexual acts: two women appear to perform fellatio on the central character (e.g., raising their heads from his lap)-though there is no actual depiction of the sex act.</blockquote>
This is fine, and we're defintely getting aroused, but where's the color? Where's the line that takes us inside what the characters are feeling?
<blockquote class="bq-standard">
	Duke moans and leans up against the wall of a bathroom stall (furnished with a hole)-it is implied that a sex act (not depicted) occurs.</blockquote>
There we go. We can't wait to see where the author takes us next.
<blockquote class="bq-standard">
	Bathroom humor includes the ability to urinate in toilets or urinals and/or pick up feces from toilets and throw it aga--</blockquote>
OK, you know what? This clearly isn't for us. ESRB, you're getting an "F." Good luck on your next story.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/01/duke-nukem-forever-esrb-rating-erotic-novella/">ESRB releases first erotic novella: The Duke Nukem Forever Rating Summary</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 01 Mar 2011 15:15:00 EST. Gearbox, we think you know not what you do. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/duke-nukem-forever"><em>Duke Nukem Forever</em></a> has been in development for, like, eleventy hundred years and now you're opening Pandora's Box; giving all of the developers, contractors, community members and anybody else who feels they have a worthwhile contribution claim a chance to be in your game's credits is noble, but perhaps too difficult an undertaking. We just hope you have more than one person on the job doing the research. Poor interns.<br />
<br />
Still, a good deed never goes unnoticed and Gearbox's survey looking to call out those who helped this storied sequel along the way is commendable. If you're one such person who feels entitled to the back-pat, you can take the survey for yourself <a href="http://www.gearboxsoftware.com/dnf-credits/">right here</a>. Oh, and before you ask, we're pretty sure "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/11/duke-nukem-forever-balls-of-steel-edition/">I got Balls of Steel</a>" won't get your name in the game.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/23/gearbox-is-looking-to-give-duke-nukem-forever-credits-where-they/">Gearbox is looking to give Duke Nukem Forever credits where they're due</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 23 Feb 2011 22:00:00 EST. If the <em>Duke Nukem Forever</em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/11/duke-nukem-forever-balls-of-steel-edition/">"Balls of Steel" Edition</a> is just too big for you, GameStop and Walmart are offering pre-order bonuses with the regular-sized editions. Walmart is giving out the prior decade fashion icon - the "<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trucker_hat">trucker hat</a>" - with pre-purchases. We have no idea when the hats were actually manufactured, but given the extended development cycle of the game it could very well have been back when Ashton Kutcher helped popularize the fad on now-defunct TV show <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punk%27d"><em>Punk'd</em></a>.<br />
<br />
GameStop wants to stuff its pants with pre-order cash using a simpler <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/duke-nukem-forever"><em>DNF</em></a> bundle: "Duke's Big Package." The bonus is a group of downloadable items that offer in-game EGO boost (health), big head mode (boom shakalaka!) and t-shirt pack. Honestly, given our <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/09/duke-nukem-forever-preview/">other-era experience with the game</a>, the trucker hat is sure to deliver that unstuck-in-time feeling of living in the 90s.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/15/duke-nukem-forever-pre-order-bonuses-ripped-from-time/">Duke Nukem Forever pre-order bonuses ripped from time</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 15 Feb 2011 13:05:00 EST. Why aren't more games concerned with teaching their players a little something about etiquette? We know the guys from Mega64 were joking when they whipped up the trailer posted below for <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/duke-nukem-forever">Duke Nukem</a></em>'s mannerly twin, <em>Doug Huggem</em> -- but, man, what a valuable lesson about cordiality!<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/12/mega64-duke-nukem-manners-doug-huggem/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Mega64 + Duke Nukem + Manners = Doug Huggem</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/12/mega64-duke-nukem-manners-doug-huggem/">Mega64 + Duke Nukem + Manners = Doug Huggem</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 12 Feb 2011 16:30:00 EST. Well, we suppose you've already seen the collector's edition -- that's it above. <br />
<br />
The "Balls of Steel" Edition (yep), revealed to <em>DNF</em> "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/05/duke-nukem-forever-demo-access-included-with-borderlands-goty/">First Access Club</a>" members, is overloaded with stuff, including a hardcover artbook, postcards, a logo sticker, a comic book, poker chips, dice, playing cards, a foldable papercraft, and -- oh yeah -- a bust of Duke Nukem. There's even a numbered certificate of authenticity, to prove to others that it's the genuine article. Notable omissions include steel stress balls and, in fact, <em>anything</em> spherical or metal.<br />
<br />
The Balls of Steel Edition will be available in limited quantities for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC at <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/21/duke-nukem-forever-release-date-may-3-2011/">launch</a> (the week of May 3). <br />
<br />
<strong>Update:</strong> 2K has provided additional details in its press release (in full after the break), revealing that the Balls of Steel Edition will be exclusive to Amazon and GameStop in North America -- for $100.<br />

Standing in the back room of a Las Vegas strip club -- which sounds far more seedy and sexy than it actually was -- Gearbox president Randy Pitchford detailed for us the once and future <em>Duke Nukem Forever</em> and how the studio's primary goal for the game is fulfilling the vision set forth by <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/06/rumor-duke-nukem-dev-3d-realms-shut-down/">defunct developer 3D Realms</a>.<br />
<br />
"I <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/05/we-bought-duke-nukem-franchise-rights-transferred-from-3d-rea/">bought the [<em>Duke Nukem</em>] brand</a>," Pitchford said. "I'll have plenty of time to do my own thing and try to start over, take Duke in whatever direction I want." For now, he wants <em>Forever</em> to be what 3D Realms was working to finish after almost 14 years of development. <br />
<br />

<em>Duke Nukem Forever</em> carries fourteen years of baggage, packed with a gameplay ethos from a bygone era -- so very, very gone by. After playing through the first couple hours of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/duke-nukem-forever"><em>DNF</em></a>, it's clear to me that this is a project ripped out of time; an amalgam of ideas that's difficult to separate into the new and the old. Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford told me that finishing <em>Forever</em> is about completing the vision of the original design. <br />
<br />
<em>DNF</em> is sort of like <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A.I._Artificial_Intelligence">the movie <em>A.I.</em></a>, where Steven Spielberg picked up an unfinished Stanley Kubrick project, and in the end you couldn't really tell where one's vision began and other's ended. That's <em>DNF</em>, like a game of telephone, or a (really slow) relay race, or a dish prepared by a line of chefs, each adding an ingredient to the recipe along the way. The end result of <em>DNF </em>may be tasty, but it's visibly crowd-sourced by several eras of game design.<br />
<br />
Somehow <em>DNF</em> still comes out an authentic followup, exuding the blatant -- and, by some accounts, even delightful -- immaturity of its predecessor. If you came of age with <em>Duke Nukem 3D</em>, then you're probably going to have to suspend some years of maturation to enjoy <em>DNF. </em>I'd say it could even be a sort of bonding experience if you've got your own teens now, but then they probably hate your guts, and even if they don't, it would be excruciatingly embarrassing to play <em>DNF</em> with them.<br />

<br />
I think you should allow me to attend next week's <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/game/duke-nukem-forever">Duke Nukem Forever</a></em> party because I am a fan of Gearbox Software and of <em>Duke Nukem Forever,</em> and <em>definitely not</em> a journalist who would be there to document the inevitably humiliating events of a drunken Las Vegas party at a strip club.<br />
<br />
I assure you that I don't own a camera, have a poor memory for names, and tend to black out when I've had even one drink. So I think I am the perfect choice for this party, and I am sure you'll agree. Also, I'll bring gum.<br />
<br />
Sincerely,<br />
<br />

It will have taken over a decade to get here, but we can finally, <em>definitively</em> tell you that <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/duke-nukem-forever">Duke Nukem Forever</a></em> may really, actually launch on May 3 in North America, followed by its worldwide release on May 6. Game Informer <em>exclusively</em> <a href="http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2011/01/21/exclusive-duke-nukem-forever-has-a-release-date.aspx">revealed</a> the launch date alongside cheeky remarks from Gearbox Software prez Randy Pitchford, who humbly characterized his company's experience with the project as "inconceivable, incorrigible and inspiring."<br />
<br />
2K Games head Christoph Hartmann was equally excited, exclaiming, "The moment fans all over the world have been waiting for is almost here ... His return is going to be epic and one that will make video gaming history!" And we tend to agree -- <em>DNF</em> will be that rare game that's impressive simply for being released. Heck, we haven't felt that way about a game since <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/gran-turismo-5">Gran Turismo 5</a>.</em><br />
<br />
<strong>Update:</strong> Catch the new trailer after the break.<br />
<br />
<strong>Update 2:</strong> Whoops! Looks like Gearbox spoke too soon and the Duke <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/24/duke-nukem-forever-delayed/">won't be arriving on May 3</a> after all.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/21/duke-nukem-forever-release-date-may-3-2011/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Get some Duke Nukem Forever on May 3, 2011 [update]</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/21/duke-nukem-forever-release-date-may-3-2011/">Get some Duke Nukem Forever on May 3, 2011 [update]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 21 Jan 2011 09:40:00 EST.
