It would have been a bird! It would have been a plane! Back in 2008, Factor 5 was working on a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/10/alleged-screens-and-video-from-factor-5s-canned-superman-game/">Superman game</a> codenamed Blue Steel. The studio ran into <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/14/factor-5-shuts-down-us-operations/">trouble</a>, as did the game's erstwhile publisher, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/02/brash-goes-out-with-a-fascinating-bang/">Brash Entertainment</a>, and the Superman game was cancelled.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.siliconera.com/2012/01/06/factor-5s-canceled-superman-game-had-darkseid-kalibak-and-lex-luther-in-it/">Siliconera</a> dug up some concept art by character designer Daveed Kaplan depicting Superman as he would have appeared in the game -- and revealing some of the villains that would have been included. Surprise! Lex Luthor is there, in ginormous armor, as are Darkseid, Kalibak, Zod, and Zod's associate Non. You can see all of them as they would have appeared, had they not been banished to the Phantom Zone, at Siliconera.<br />
<br />
[Update: The Siliconera post is no longer available, and we have removed our image, at Kaplan's request.]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/11/concept-art-shows-superman-and-villains-from-factor-5s-canned-g/">Concept art shows Superman and villains from Factor 5's canned game</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 11 Jan 2012 17:00:00 EST. It's been a few years since <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/14/factor-5-shuts-down-us-operations/">Factor 5 shut down its US operations</a> and now it would appear we're getting a look at some of the shuttered studio's projects underway right until the end. Remember <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/10/alleged-screens-and-video-from-factor-5s-canned-superman-game/"><em>Superman</em></a>? That wasn't all the company was working on, if this thread on <a href="http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=451147">NeoGAF</a> is legit.<br />
<br />
Some leaked concept art of what is being called a "Beaver Pioneer" and some nondescript robot appeared on the site -- later in that same thread, a poster claiming to be an ex-Factor 5 employee <a href="http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=32463515&amp;postcount=91">called the game <em>Animal Wars</em></a>. It supposedly "played like <em>Warhawk</em>," pitting animals against each other in a WWII-themed setting. How novel.<br />
<br />
Perhaps more interesting is the concept art of a lone white robot, what some in the thread are saying is from a <em>Turrican</em> reboot that was in the works at Factor 5, but there doesn't appear to be enough evidence to effectively conclude as much. As of right now, it seems the closest we have to a real <em>Turrican </em>reboot is <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/25/turrican-remake-released-rocks-you-like-a-hurrican/">Hurrican</a>.</em><br />

A new lawsuit by former employees of <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/factor-5">Factor 5</a> claims the company fraudulently shifted assets to avoid ponying up $900,000 in unpaid wages to employees and millions to creditors. The <a href="http://www.marinij.com/ci_12602712">Marin Independent Journal</a> reports the suit outright states that the company stopped paying workers on November 1, 2008 and let them go on December 19. That explains why there were rumors of the company <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/22/rumor-factor-5-shuts-down/">shutting down</a> six months before the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/14/factor-5-shuts-down-us-operations/">official closure announcement</a> was made in May.<br /><br />As for the alleged fraud, the suit claims that Factor 5 moved assets (source code and other IP) into a company, now called White Harvest, to shield it from creditors. The plaintiffs claim that the company is being run by the same people, same lawyers, "with all the same management and ownership and control," and is performing the same work that Factor 5 was up to -- just with a new name and address. Expect to see more about this kerfuffle in the future.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=24076">Gamasutra</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/17/factor-5-accused-of-fraud-in-new-lawsuit/">Factor 5 accused of fraud in new lawsuit</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 17 Jun 2009 11:15:00 EST. After <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/lair"><em>Lair</em></a> tanked, things haven't been going all too well for Factor 5. In fact, things got so bad that the company's North American arm <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/14/factor-5-shuts-down-us-operations/">was severed</a> not too long ago. Along with the loss of that studio came the loss of the games it was working on -- specifically the one pictured above.<br /><br />The image comes courtesy of <a href="http://www.unseen64.net/2009/05/27/project-c-factor-5-ps3-cancelled/">Unseen64</a>, which got a hold of a whole set of concept art from Factor 5's canceled and untitled PS3 exclusive. Looking closely at the artwork, it's obvious Factor 5 was working on some sort of space-age odyssey, which appears to most resemble a shooter, or even possibly an RPG. Maybe both ... like a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/mass-effect"><em>Mass Effect</em></a> equivalent for PS3, perhaps.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/27/rumor-factor-5-was-working-on-a-sci-fi-ps3-exclusive/">Rumor: Factor 5 was working on a sci-fi PS3 exclusive</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 27 May 2009 20:00:00 EST. With <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/14/factor-5-shuts-down-us-operations/">Factor 5 closing its doors in the US</a>, it's uncertain whether the games that were in development there will be moved to its German studio, or if the titles will be scrapped entirely. Courtesy of <a href="http://www.unseen64.net/2009/05/14/f5s-flight-project-wii-prototype/">Unseen64</a>, we have some concept art from a flight game the company was working on for Wii. <br /><br />Supposedly, these are images created using the Wii version of Factor 5's Lair Engine, though that is unconfirmed. Based on the images, however, we can glean that the game would have had players visiting several different parts of the world, as there's a few images striking an amazing resemblance to <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Ben">Big Ben</a>. <br /><br />We've put in word to Factor 5 for comment, but we're hoping the employees have already set sail toward a brighter future, much like the <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KX61PUZ3xkI">Crimson Permanent Assurance</a>. Sadly, real life isn't as fun ...<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/factor-5-wii-flight-game-prototype/">Factor 5 Wii 'flight game' prototype</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/factor-5-wii-flight-game-prototype/#2016551"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/05/prototypefactor5wii_23_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/factor-5-wii-flight-game-prototype/#2016550"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/05/prototypefactor5wii_22_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/factor-5-wii-flight-game-prototype/#2016549"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/05/prototypefactor5wii_21_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/factor-5-wii-flight-game-prototype/#2016548"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/05/prototypefactor5wii_14_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/factor-5-wii-flight-game-prototype/#2016547"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/05/prototypefactor5wii_13_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/15/leaked-images-from-factor-5s-wii-flight-game/">Leaked images from Factor 5's Wii 'flight' game</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 15 May 2009 14:30:00 EST. Factor 5 <a href="http://www.factor5.de/">officially announced</a> the closure of its US operations recently, concluding a story that feels like it's been just out of reach for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/22/rumor-factor-5-shuts-down/">half a year</a>. The developer had been having some rough times since the poignant failure of <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/lair">Lair</a></em>. Following that, there was its falling out with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/07/brash-layoffs-result-from-tough-economic-landscape/">Brash Entertainment</a> (which led to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/16/rumor-factor-5-cuts-37-jobs/">layoffs</a>), leaks of the <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/10/alleged-screens-and-video-from-factor-5s-canned-superman-game/">Superman</a></em> and <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/01/rumor-early-factor-5-kid-icarus-model-flies-out/">Kid Icarus</a></em> games, and, obviously, the closure of the studio.<br /><br />The bright side on this really dark tale is that Achim Moller, CEO of Factor 5 Germany, states the company has "partnered with both old and new friends in the industry who will reveal our upcoming projects over the next months." With <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/e3-2009">E3</a> visible in the smog-filled distance, perhaps we'll learn what the German-based developer is up to soon.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://kotaku.com/5253800/factor-5-officially-shuttered">Kotaku</a>, <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/2009/05/14/factor-5-inc-shuts-doors-wii-game-probably-still-coming/">Siliconera</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/14/factor-5-shuts-down-us-operations/">Factor 5 shuts down US operations</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 14 May 2009 13:15:00 EST. Some footage and screens from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/17/factor-5-speaks-out-on-superman-game/">Factor 5's <span style="font-style: italic;">Superman</span> project</a> have managed to make their way online, <a href="http://www.unseen64.net/2009/03/09/superman-factor-5-x360ps3-cancelled/">courtesy of Unseen64</a>. While we would've liked to have seen some actual gameplay, sadly the only items on offer are a brief CG trailer (past the break) and some screens. We'd offer our opinion on it all one way or the other, but all of this media seems to be from really early in the game's development -- who knows which way the title was headed?<br /><br />Well, in the opposite direction of <em>Superman 64</em> would have been nice.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/factor-5s-canceled-superman-game-xbox-360-ps3/">Factor 5's canceled Superman game (Xbox 360/PS3)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/factor-5s-canceled-superman-game-xbox-360-ps3/#1421845"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/superman-factor5-011_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/factor-5s-canceled-superman-game-xbox-360-ps3/#1421844"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/superman-factor5-05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/factor-5s-canceled-superman-game-xbox-360-ps3/#1421843"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/superman-factor5-04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/factor-5s-canceled-superman-game-xbox-360-ps3/#1421842"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/superman-factor5-03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/factor-5s-canceled-superman-game-xbox-360-ps3/#1421841"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/superman-factor5-02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Via <a href="http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/960/960768p1.html">IGN</a>]<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/10/alleged-screens-and-video-from-factor-5s-canned-superman-game/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Alleged screens and video from Factor 5's canned Superman game</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/10/alleged-screens-and-video-from-factor-5s-canned-superman-game/">Alleged screens and video from Factor 5's canned Superman game</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 10 Mar 2009 11:08:00 EST. Early last year, we saw some <a style="" href="http://nintendo.joystiq.com/2008/05/09/kid-icarus-to-smolder-with-generic-rage/">potential concept art</a> for a Wii <a href="http://nintendo.joystiq.com/2008/05/08/ign-pretty-much-confirms-kid-icarus/"><em>Kid Icarus </em>update</a> from developer Factor 5. Today, NeoGAFfer Shiggy posted what <em>may</em> be an early character render from "late 2007/early 2008." We've included the original Famicom Disk System version's character art for comparison.<br /><br />This is about as tenuous a rumor as there could possibly be because: A) We don't know if the Factor 5 <em>Kid Icarus</em> game was <em>ever</em> real. B) We don't know if this image or the previous concept art was actually from that hypothetical game. C) Even if it was real at some point, the game is most certainly dead now, due to the state of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/22/rumor-factor-5-shuts-down/">Factor 5.</a>
<ul>          </ul>
    We don't want to cast aspersions on Factor 5. They are responsible for true classics like the <a href="http://nintendo.joystiq.com/tag/turrican"><em>Turrican</em></a> series, as well as recent favorites like the <em>Rogue Squadron</em> games. But we won't lament the early demise of this (probably fake) interpretation of Pit. After all, he's got Solid Snake hair circa-<em>Metal Gear Solid</em> and he's wearing a sort of Ryu Hayabusa ninja outfit. We could only imagine this game's story involving Pit getting infected with a techno-organic super-virus codenamed E.G.G.P.L.A.N.T.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/01/rumor-early-factor-5-kid-icarus-model-flies-out/">Rumor: Early Factor 5 Kid Icarus model flies out</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 01 Feb 2009 20:00:00 EST. The last we heard of Factor 5, they were thinking about a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/08/rumor-rogue-squadron-compilation-locking-x-foils-in-attack-posi/"><em>Rogue Squadron</em> compilation</a>. What's Santa putting in developer stockings this year? <em>Unemployment</em>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/free-radical">apparently</a>. Following earlier rumors of a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/16/rumor-factor-5-cuts-37-jobs/">50-percent cut in staff</a> at Factor 5, internet murmuring now suggests that the <em>Lair</em> and <em>Rogue Squadron</em> developer has closed its doors completely. According to an alleged <a href="http://boards.ign.com/nintendo_wii_general_board/b8263/175069162/p1/">forum post</a> by IGN's Matt Casamassina, which in turn cites an "inside source," today marked the end of Factor 5's operations. It seems the infamous <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/brash">Brash</a> bailout had more severe repercussions than we <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/08/factor-5-dev-blogs-about-canceled-title-later-deletes-post/">previously suspected</a>.<br /><br />Joystiq has contacted relevant parties in order to obtain more concrete information -- as well as more concrete. With all these depressing stories, we're going to need a dam to hold all these tears.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=14082608&amp;postcount=220">NeoGAF</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/22/rumor-factor-5-shuts-down/">Rumor: Factor 5 shuts down</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 22 Dec 2008 15:00:00 EST. Speaking to a "well-placed source," <a href="http://www.edge-online.com/features/source-factor-5-cuts-37">Edge Online</a> reports that <em>Rogue Squadron</em> developer <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/factor-5">Factor 5</a> laid off 37 employees on Friday, December 12th. This leaves around 38 workers to continue development on one or more projects which may or may not be canceled, depending on whose blog you read and how quickly it gets <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/08/factor-5-dev-blogs-about-canceled-title-later-deletes-post/">deleted from the internet</a>.<br /><br />While most would speculate that the drama has its origin in Factor 5's botched deal with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/brash">Brash</a>, Edge's source claims, "The thing that bothers me the most about it all is they could have avoided all of this ages ago. It wasn't really the Brash deal going south that was the big problem, but it didn't help much either." According to the source, the last time Factor folks got so much as a fiver was on October 15th. Nearly every company in the video game industry has <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/01/ea-shares-drop-in-response-to-layoffs-other-publishers-down-too/">taken a hit</a> during this economic fiasco -- though we've seen a few cases where the full brunt of the recession has come down on certain developers and publishers. Factor 5, creator of the wildly criticized <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=Lair">Lair</a></em>, appeared to be the latest company to suffer under the credit crunch -- one of its employees, Sam Baker (who blogs under the moniker MISTASAM), <a href="http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3171691">recently posted about "financial issues"</a> which kept his fellow developers from receiving payment and health care benefits, and ultimately led the company to "stop production" on a project he'd been working on for eight months.<br /><br />However, <a href="http://64.233.169.132/search?q=cache:m0yLpSEuBIgJ:mistasam.blogspot.com/+http://mistasam.blogspot.com/&amp;hl=en&amp;ct=clnk&amp;cd=1&amp;gl=us&amp;client=firefox-a">this post</a> (cached version), as well as every other post on Baker's blog, disappeared quickly after its publication, and was <a href="http://mistasam.blogspot.com/2008/12/1upcom-misinterpretation.html">replaced by a brief correction</a>. In this follow-up post, Baker explains that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/14/variety-brash-to-cease-operations-today/">the closure of Brash Entertainment</a>, whom Factor 5 was working with on what was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/13/brash-taps-lair-dev-factor-5-for-yet-another-movie-game/">rumored to be a new Superman title</a>, had caused the economic distress. Baker adds that whatever game Factor 5 was developing for Brash is still alive and well (and was never "in trouble"), and that the rest of the studio's projects are "doing great".<br /><br />This second post is confusing and somewhat contradictive, to say the least. While the erasure of Baker's <em>entire blog</em> certainly gives off an air of impropriety, we can't be certain of what exactly is going on at Factor 5. With the inital post mentioning employee layoffs, we certainly hope the cheery exposition of the second post proves accurate -- not just because of our concern for our fellow man, but because we <em>really</em> want a new <em>Rogue Squadron</em> game.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/08/factor-5-dev-blogs-about-canceled-title-later-deletes-post/">Factor 5 dev blogs about canceled title, later deletes post</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 08 Dec 2008 14:26:00 EST. Last week's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/14/variety-brash-to-cease-operations-today/">closure</a> of Brash Entertainment left a number of unanswered questions lingering, and as thrilled as we are that <em>Saw </em>is still set to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/07/brash-layoffs-result-from-tough-economic-landscape/">get its game on</a>, we're more curious to find out if Superman survived the publisher's swift implosion. The Man of Steel was allegedly the subject of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/13/brash-taps-lair-dev-factor-5-for-yet-another-movie-game/">a deal between Brash and Factor 5</a> earlier this year, and <a href="http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2008/11/17/factor-5-president-addresses-superman-game-rumors-health-of-studio/">MTV Multiplayer</a> recently caught up with the <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/lair">Lair</a> </em>developer's president, Julian Eggebrecht, to find out more.<br /><br />While the exec admitted that Factor 5 is working on "several" multi-platform and Wii-specific titles, he stopped just short of admitting that the studio is developing a game based on Superman. "One of our large-scale multi-platform projects was started with Brash because it is a dream property for us, hasn't been given its dues in gaming since the Atari 2600, and has a huge universe to draw from," teased Eggebrecht, who added that "things are obviously in flux and we hope that the game proves to be as indestructible as our hero..."<br /><br />Though still unconfirmed, it seems fairly obvious that Factor 5 has its sights set on the son of Jor-El. We just hope that there's something left of him after his current <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Mortal-Kombat-vs-DC-Universe/">cross-universe beatdown</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/17/factor-5-speaks-out-on-superman-game/">Factor 5 speaks out on 'Superman' game</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 17 Nov 2008 17:00:00 EST. Several weeks after another Brash Entertainment co-founder <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/13/another-brash-co-founder-thomas-tull-bolts/">bolted</a> and CEO Mitch Davis <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/15/brash-boss-first-year-overly-ambitious-outlines-improvement/">admitted</a> his company had been "overly ambitious" in its first year, the publisher of <em>really bad</em> movie-based games has laid out a new "strategic cost reduction plan." Uh-oh, that sounds like ... you've got it: Layoffs. The company will axe 20 members of its staff and do away with several positions in the short term, reports <a href="http://www.gamedaily.com/articles/news/brash-entertainment-laying-off-20-due-to-tough-economic-landscape/?biz=1">GameDaily</a>. The good news? <em>Six Flags Fun Park</em> for Wii and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/saw/"><span style="font-style: italic;">SAW</span></a> are still on! <em>Phew.</em><br /><br />Read Brash's official statement after the break.<br /><br /><strong>Update:</strong> <a href="http://weblogs.variety.com/the_cut_scene/2008/11/brash-strugglin.html">Variety</a> reports Brash has also stopped paying its developers and is attempting to "return" or sell off many of its licensed properties. Currently in limbo: <em>Tale of Desperaux, Prison Break, Night at the Museum 2, Clash of the Titans, 300,</em> and an announced <em>Superman</em> game (allegedly to be developed by <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Factor-5/">Factor 5</a>).<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/07/brash-layoffs-result-from-tough-economic-landscape/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Brash layoffs result from 'tough economic landscape' [update]</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/07/brash-layoffs-result-from-tough-economic-landscape/">Brash layoffs result from 'tough economic landscape' [update]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 07 Nov 2008 10:26:00 EST. According to the latest issue of EGM, which just arrived in our mail box, Wii owners could be seeing <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/19/born-for-wii-rogue-squadron"><em>Rogue Squadron</em></a> make a return to a Nintendo console, as Q from the Rumor Mill is reporting that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/lucasarts">Lucasarts</a> has licensed out the <span style="font-style: italic;">Rogue Squadron </span>series of games. Sadly, we're not talking about a brand new game, but rather a compilation of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/n64">N64</a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gamecube">GameCube</a> titles, all on one Wii disc. With <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/03/play-on-wii-new-videos-of-old-games/">the whole Play on Wii thing</a>, it seems like this has a good chance of becoming true.<br /><br />Head past the break for the excerpt from the magazine.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/08/rumor-rogue-squadron-compilation-locking-x-foils-in-attack-posi/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Rumor: Rogue Squadron compilation locking S-foils in attack position</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/08/rumor-rogue-squadron-compilation-locking-x-foils-in-attack-posi/">Rumor: Rogue Squadron compilation locking S-foils in attack position</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 08 Oct 2008 14:34:00 EST. Before straddling a winged lizard and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/lair">doing a nosedive</a>, developer Factor 5 was the source of one of our favorite pastimes: the unrelenting obliteration of aliens, robots and the occasional Sasquatch. Our memory's a bit hazy when it comes to <em>Super Turrican 2</em>, so there may well have been a robotic alien Sasquatch in there somewhere.<br />

    <li><em>Super Turrican 2</em> (SNES, 1 player, 800 Wii Points): Factor 5's destructive bullet dispensor arrives on the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/virtualconsolemonday">Virtual Console</a> this week, challenging players to foil "the menacing hordes of ... We've been <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/19/the-vc-advantage-a-field-guide-to-psychological-hazards-in-spel/">diverging</a> lately into video game <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/09/the-vc-advantage-mota-travel-guide/">history</a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/02/the-vc-advantage-the-meijin-advantage/">ephemera</a> in these VC Advantage columns, because those are usually a lot more interesting than just <em>plain old cheats,</em> while keeping in the spirit of extending the enjoyment of games through secrets. But sometimes it's nice to get back to the original stated purpose of presenting codes for Virtual Console games as if we were writing a column in an old gaming magazine.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/14/vc-monday-madness-video-wrap-up-4-14-08/"><em>Mega Turrican</em></a> seems like an excellent candidate for this treatment, because it is <em>hard as all get out.</em> While previous entries in the franchise involved huge, maze-like levels, <em>Mega Turrican</em> is basically <em>Contra </em>but faster (and with backgrounds that don't contrast enough with the enemies) -- a straightforward left-to-right run-and-gun. And that is almost universal code for <em>"punishingly hard game whose first level you will see about fifty thousand times.</em>"<br /><br />With that in mind, an invincibility cheat seems like a perfectly relevant and helpful thing to offer. It couldn't be easier to pull off, either: just pause the game and hit A, A, A, B, B, B, A, A, A. You don't even have to write this one down! You can also skip a level by hitting right, left, down, right, and then B while paused. And <em>now</em> you can pretend to be successful while playing <em>Mega Turrican!</em><br /><br />[Codes via <a href="http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/genesis/code/586312.html">GameFAQs</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/16/the-vc-advantage-a-good-old-fashioned-code-list/">The VC Advantage: A good old-fashioned code list</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 16 Apr 2008 20:00:00 EST. The update not only allows a left analogue stick control scheme, but a better aiming function as well as two new dragons to mount and ride. Yep -- now you have the Wind and Poison dragons at your beck and call. But that's not all -- new custom themes will be available that change at random on startup. Will we see this stuff outside of Japan? Factor 5's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/lair"><em>Lair</em></a> is getting a rather <em>timely</em> update. As reported by <a href="http://ps3.ign.com/articles/865/865676p1.html?RSSwhen2008-04-10_024700&amp;RSSid=865676">IGN</a> in a rare moment of headline snark ("Will this push the score past 5?"), the game will finally support analog controls. The patch, coming out in Japan on April 17 (and likely everywhere else, too), also includes DualShock 3 rumble support, the appearance of a targeting icon and the ability to download the Wind Dragon and Poison Dragon for use in all stages.<br /><br />As the old adage says, analog controls don't grow on trees. Well, it turns out they do, and that's why it took until Spring to see them bloom and the update to arrive. We expect a resurgence of interest in the title starting ... um ... guys? Are you still here?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/10/upcoming-lair-patch-to-add-analog-controls/">Upcoming Lair patch to add analog controls</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 10 Apr 2008 10:27:00 EST. At about the 12:30 mark in the March 18th show, the group turns to Reggie's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/17/reggie-big-wii-title-coming-this-holiday-revealed-during-e3/">mysterious E3 surprise</a>. "Could be <em>Kid Icarus,</em>" Matt Casamassina said, "We've already chatted about that -- don't know if it's going to be that. We <em>do</em> know that that game exists."<br /><br />Here, Matt seems to be referring to the previous week's <a href="http://wii.ign.com/articles/858/858352p1.html">Wii-k in Review</a> (ugh), in which he said that <em>Kid Icarus</em> would "absolutely" be on the Wii in 2008. Any sources? Of course not! "The rumors are out there," he said. Is he using his own rumor from a previous week as confirmation? <br /><br />We wouldn't be surprised about a <em>Kid Icarus</em> game at this point, if only because people are so crazy about the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/20/rumor-factor-5-developing-kid-icarus-on-the-wii/">rumor</a> now. But we'll just say that Nintendo <em>does not</em> care about the franchise, or there would have been a third game by now. That means that they would <em>undoubtedly</em> be outsourcing it -- to Factor 5 or someone else.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/20/ign-teases-kid-icarus/">IGN teases Kid Icarus</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 20 Mar 2008 16:00:00 EST. Brash has <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/30/saw-game-brings-gorno-to-consoles-in-09/">an</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/04/saw-this-coming-games-based-on-saw-coming/">unrelenting</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/13/brash-to-make-game-based-on-jumper/">love</a> for games based on movie IP, and as if patterning its business model after a remake of <a href="http://imdb.com/title/tt0022913/"><em>Freaks</em></a>, the publisher has convinced yet another developer to become <em>one of us</em>. The latest studio to sign on the dotted line is <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/lair">Lair</a> </em>dev Factor 5, which according to Brash involves an unspecified title to be revealed "around the E3 Expo" in July.<br /><br />The news follows the announcement yesterday of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/12/brash-working-with-folklore-dev-on-film-based-game/">a deal between Brash and <em>Folklore </em>Dec Game Republic</a> on another secretive movie-to-game deal. While it's true that film-games have earned their place as everyone's <em>favorite </em>whipping boy, Factor 5 co-founder and president Julian Eggebrecht seems pleased as punch about the whole affair, stating that "because the filmmaker is a game fan who is really excited about how we want to expand on the story of the film, we've been given a lot of latitude." Let's just hope this time they <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/12/lair-control-fix-may-be-in-the-works/">leave any motion-sensitive controls</a> up to the professionals.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/13/brash-taps-lair-dev-factor-5-for-yet-another-movie-game/">Brash taps Lair dev Factor 5 for yet another movie game</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 13 Mar 2008 13:45:00 EST. From the publishers of fine titles, such as <em>Alvin and the Chipmunks</em>, <em>Jumper: Griffin's Story</em>, and <em>Saw: The Videogame</em> comes yet another major game announcement. Yesterday, Brash Entertainment announced a deal with frequent Sony partner, Game Republic (<em>Genji</em>, <em>Folklore</em>) to make a game based on a "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/12/game-republic-developing-a-game-based-on-a-popular-hollywood-fi/">popular Hollywood film</a>." Well, looks like another Sony partner is being swallowed up by the startup publisher. Factor 5, known to Sony fans for their notorious <em>Lair</em> will also be creating a title for Brash. We're sure that Factor 5 will live up Brash's legacy of quality titles.<br />
<p>"We do our due diligence on potential partners; we want to understand their in-house tech, and get to know their team and its capabilities. Factor 5 has a solid track record in creating licensed games that, in combination with their technology expertise, makes them an ideal partner," said Mitch Davis. "But what really cemented the collaboration was their passion for the IP and the world in which the game will live. Because that's when you are going to get really good games -- when the people who are making it are really enjoying the process."<br /> </p>
"Typically, there are two issues developers have with making a licensed game. First, they tend to have shorter development cycles. Second, there are often very tight constraints on how you can portray the world of the IP, its characters and story. The resulting lack of creative freedom can be very frustrating -- especially when it's a world you are excited to explore," said Julian Eggebrecht, President and Co-founder of Factor 5. "But collaborating with Brash is much different, we're already working on a title that is more than two years out, and because the filmmaker is a game fan who is really excited about how we want to expand on the story of the film, we've been given a lot of latitude. It's been really fun to dig deep into this universe."<br /><br />[Via press release]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/13/brash-continues-consuming-sony-partners-factor-5-next/">Brash continues consuming Sony partners: Factor 5 next</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 13 Mar 2008 10:30:00 EST. While at GDC, a man we will call DugBuzz, states in his <a href="http://blogs.ign.com/DugBuzz/2008/02/20/81298/">IGN blog</a>, seeked out the Factor 5 booth and played around with their new build of <em>Lair</em> that incorporated an analog function. He made a comment about the guy who reviewed the game on IGN after playing the new version: "<span id="ctl00_ctl00_cphMainContent_ccThreeColumnContent_ccThreeColumnTwo_cphMainContent_BlogEntryView1_lblMessageBody">Greg needs to give them a new score. It was kind of clear that Factor 5 put in the extra effort a little begrudgingly, but the results were amazing. This might push me over the edge into the "must buy PS3" territory."<br /><br />So there you have it. If you haven't played <em>Lair</em>, or rented it and had a bad taste in your mouth, should this analog patch (which also might fix other things -- just an assumption) come out, we'll let you know. It's then your call whether or not to try it out again, but if this guy has decent tastes, it might just make a potentially great game great. We first heard about <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/14/rogue-squadron-developer-factor-5-working-on-wii/">Factor 5's Wii project</a> about a month ago, and with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dice-08">DICE 08</a> comes some new details about the title. IGN spoke with Factor 5 president Julian Eggebrecht about the game, and learned a bit about the impressive engine being built, which Eggebrecht claims <a href="http://uk.wii.ign.com/articles/851/851287p1.html">rivals their work on the PS3</a>.<br /><br />According to Eggebrecht, the engine for the Wii title is nearly complete and, according to him, "does everything the PS3 did, and then some, quite frankly." The title is described as being technically impressive, pushing the Wii hardware further than most will expect it to go. <br /><br />Though further details are scant, Eggebrecht does emphasize <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/factor5">Factor 5</a>'s focus on the controls, specifically the Wii remote's ability to act as a pointing device. We'll have to wait and see how the Wii title will manage to outdo Factor 5's PS3 development (insert snide remark about <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/lair">Lair</a>'</em>s abysmal critical reception).<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/12/factor-5-wii-engine-does-everything-the-ps3-did-and-then-some/">Factor 5 Wii engine 'does everything the PS3 did, and then some'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 12 Feb 2008 12:55:00 EST. Suddenly, Factor 5 decided that it <em>quite liked</em> the console after all, and announced they were making a GameCube 1.5, sorry, <em>Wii</em> game. We welcomed them back, while reserving the right to compose smug opening paragraphs to blog posts.<br /><br />But hey, just because Factor 5 may have changed its tune on the Wii, don't expect it to change its approach to development. The company is famed for squeezing every last drop of power from hardware -- see the <em>Rogue Squadron</em> games on the GameCube -- and company president Julian Eggebrecht says things will be no different when it comes to Factor 5's mysterious Wii project.<br /><br />You can't fault the man for ambition, either. Speaking to IGN, Eggebrecht promised that Factor 5 was aiming to "outdo everything else on the platform, the same as we did for the Star Wars games back on the GameCube." We're certainly not opposed to the idea of a game that's prettier than <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/08/meta-video-review-super-mario-galaxy/"><em>Super Mario Galaxy</em></a>, but that is one <em>very</em> tall order.<br /><br />In the same interview, Eggebrecht also admitted to loving the pointing aspect of the Wiimote, and revealed that this was "probably the biggest innovation which we're working on right now." So there you go. Pretty graphics. Pointing. We're still no clearer on what Factor 5's game is. Though we know what <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/20/rumor-factor-5-developing-kid-icarus-on-the-wii/">we'd <em>like </em>it to be</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/12/factor-5-loves-pretty-graphics-pointing/">Factor 5 loves pretty graphics, pointing</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 12 Feb 2008 12:45:00 EST. The shoddy SIXAXIS controls may not be<em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Lair/">Lair</a></em>'s only problem, but it's certainly the one that's taken the brunt of the criticisms pointed at the game. Throughout it all developer Factor 5 has insisted that motion-controlled dragons were the only way to go, but it seems that they may finally be softening. <br /><br />Recently, the company's president, Julian Eggebrecht, told IGN "If we find a chance in the future that would bring Lair to the audience which didn't get any access, that would be fantastic," he said. "I can't say anything quite yet, but there might be something in the works there. We might have a chance yet to bring those back to the table and hopefully, if that should happen, they would give the game a second chance." Now, as much as we'd like to see a patch, we get the sneaking suspicion he's hinting at a sequel. It's no secret many gamers aren't very happy with <em><a href="http://ps3fanboy.com/tag/lair">Lair's</a> </em>SIXAXIS control scheme. And despite overwhelming requests by gamers the world over for Factor 5 to issue a patch to rectify the issue, months have gone by without any fix for this issue.<br /><br />However, Factor 5's President Julian Eggebrecht recently hinted that a <a href="http://ps3.ign.com/articles/851/851317p1.html?RSSwhen2008-02-11_161300&amp;RSSid=851317">fix may finally be in the pipeline</a>. "I can't say anything quite yet, but there might be something in the works there," he said. Additionally, he admitted the decision to only include the SIXAXIS control scheme was a mistake. "If you're on a platform where this whole motion control is something new and not being pitched as the main feature of the platform, you should probably give the choice between having different control schemes, there is absolutely no doubt about it," he added.<br /><br />It's hard not to agree with Eggebrecht, but what a lot of gamers out there want is just a fix for what many believe is crippling controls for an otherwise decent game. Hopefully, Factor 5 chooses to give us what we want.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/12/factor-5-might-finally-fix-lairs-control-scheme/">Factor 5 might finally fix Lair's control scheme</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 12 Feb 2008 09:30:00 EST. According to <a href="http://wii.kombo.com/article.php?artid=11331">Kombo</a>, though, a credible source claims that the game will be a new <span style="font-style: italic;">Kid Icaru</span>s title. The rumor also states that Factor 5 will not be using their GameCube graphics engine, and instead will be developing the game from the ground up.<br /><br />With Pit being a playable character in <span style="font-style: italic;">Brawl</span> (which is likely to increase hype for the <span style="font-style: italic;">Kid Icarus</span> franchise), we wouldn't be surprised if this rumor turned out to be true. A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, Factor 5 <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/10/24/factor-5-scoffs-at-the-wii-fanboys-shed-one-tear/">turned their noses up at the Wii</a> and said they didn't really feel like working with "GameCube 1.5." Well, now they've changed their tune and have confirmed that they've got a game underway for the system ... and it's not a <em>Rogue Squadron</em> game (or even a take-off), and it's not for the Virtual Console. Apparently, the game is "all new," so the possibilities are wide open. Feel like speculating over breakfast? We hardly know where to begin!<br /><br />We are curious, however, if this also means they're picking up other projects for the console. It seems likely.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/15/wii-warm-up-factor-5-says-just-kidding-we-ask-whats-next/">Wii Warm Up: Factor 5 says 'just kidding,' we ask what's next</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 15 Jan 2008 09:00:00 EST. Factor 5 - the once-fondly remembered studio responsible for the popular <em>Rogue Squadron</em> series back in the good ol' Gamecube days - is working on an all new Wii project after <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Lair/">their first PS3 outing</a> failed to find an audience. Even though Factor 5's Gamecube releases graphically outshine almost every Wii release to date, we're heartened to read that their Wii project is not going to be powered by their existing <em>Rogue Squadron</em> tech, instead opting for a "significantly updated" or even completely new engine. Now, what that fancy new technology is going to be used for is anyone's guess. As long as it's got a tow cable lying level, we'll be there.<br /><br />[Thanks, Fernando and John]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/14/rogue-squadron-developer-factor-5-working-on-wii/">Rogue Squadron developer, Factor 5 working on Wii</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 14 Jan 2008 21:15:00 EST. Factor 5's <em>Lair</em>, much-ballyhooed in North America and Europe for its <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/03/metareview-lair-ps3/">unfavorable</a> control scheme (and Sony's subsequent <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/07/sony-sends-out-lair-reviewers-guide-must-not-laugh/">response</a>), has debuted in Japan with enough sales to crack the top 10 for weekly sales, according to Media Create (via <a href="http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=29739">GamesIndustry.biz</a>).<br /><br />The game, known there as <em>Rise from Lair</em>, landed in the number seven spot with 22,000 in sales, likely helped by Famitsu's <a href="http://www.n4g.com/gaming/News-71974.aspx">positive review</a>. For comparison, <em>Project Gotham Racing 4 </em>received the same Famitsu score and only charted at 25, the highest rank for an Xbox 360 title and a big drop in Microsoft's presence following the console maker's triumphant one week at the top with <em>Halo 3 </em>(59,000 unit sales).<br /><br /><em>Nishimura Kyotarou Suspense Detective Series: Deadly Intent </em>for Nintendo DS debuted in the top spot this week with 61,000 in sales. <em>Dragon Ball Z: Sparkling! Meteor </em>for PS2 and <em>Gundam Battle Chronicle </em>(PSP) took second and third place, respectively.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/19/lair-rides-into-japan-top-ten-for-software-sales/">Lair rides into Japan top ten for software sales</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 19 Oct 2007 15:45:00 EST. About the new controller, Julian seemed pleased and wouldn't mind going back and implementing it in <em>Lair</em>. "I'd love to do a patch for Lair, to get the rumble in there. It just about didn't work out for us for <em>Lair</em>, because this is basically one OS past the one that we shipped with, which I think is a shame, because it's a natural fit, especially when you're ramming into other characters."<br /><br />Eggebrecht was also quizzed about the classic <em>Turrican</em> titles, whether a hi-res remake of any of the old games would make their way onto the PlayStation Network or XBLA. Surprisingly, he seemed to have an answer prepared. " Yeah absolutely, both for XBLA and PSN, it'd be fantastic. I think that probably a high-res <em>Turrican</em> more based on the Amiga <em>Turricans</em> would be great on those platforms. We obviously have the Virtual Console out there on the Nintendo side, and that'd obviously work well for the Genesis and Super Nintendo <em>Turricans</em>. So yeah, we're talking!" We hope these talks turn to actions, as we'd love to see those games revived in HD, as we feel HD sprites are the sexiest things alive. With multiple exceptions.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/21/high-res-turrican-coming-to-psn-its-possible/">High-res Turrican coming to PSN?
