We <em>know</em>, we couldn't believe it either, but it's the truth, as recently demonstrated by an outbreak of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/21/halo-4-beta-invites-are-all-fake-so-far/">fake <em>Halo 4</em> beta test invites</a>.<br /><br />343 Industries' creative director David Ellis was quick to debunk the bogus site, but the URL used in the phishing scam (halo4beta dot net) is still out there, tempting fate with its Halo-oriented name and <em>un-Microsoftness</em>. Who knows what nefarious maleficence the domain could be used for if left in the wild, so Microsoft has filed a complaint with the National Arbitration Forum in order to have the domain name transferred to its ownership.<br /><br />In situations like this, the company filing the complaint has to be able to prove that the domain in question was registered maliciously in order for the Forum to decide in its favor. Under the circumstances, we feel like <em>global fraud</em> will probably be malicious enough to sway things in Microsoft's favor.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/28/microsoft-files-complaint-over-fake-halo-4-beta-domain/">Microsoft files complaint over fake Halo 4 beta domain</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 28 Jan 2012 19:00:00 EST. Before you get your hopes too high, we feel morally compelled to inform you that the video posted after the jump, a purported gameplay clip from <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZxXycBv3Rlk"><em>Sonic and Knuckles 3D</em></a>, isn't culled from any upcoming licensed game. In fact, it's not even from a fan-made game -- rather, it's just a pre-rendered video from a skilled 3D artist and YouTube user by the username of BlobVanDam.<br />
<br />
Spin-dash past the jump if you want to see the Mushroom Hill Zone Act 2 that never-will-be. Actually, that's a pretty defeatist attitude to adopt. We're sure that someday, in the fullness of time, this <em>delightful</em> vision will be realized. Until then: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/sonic-4"><em>Sonic 4</em></a>!<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/25/sonic-and-knuckles-3d-fan-video-is-all-sorts-of-rad/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Sonic and Knuckles 3D fan video is all sorts of rad</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/25/sonic-and-knuckles-3d-fan-video-is-all-sorts-of-rad/">Sonic and Knuckles 3D fan video is all sorts of rad</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 25 Aug 2010 17:30:00 EST. A quick public service announcement to any and all tipsters sending us links to <a href="http://twitter.com/DonMattrick">Don Mattrick</a>'s official Twitter account: It's fake. Sure, it would have been nice to reveal new <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Halo-Reach/">Halo: Reach</a></em> related <a href="http://twitter.com/DonMattrick/status/2359971690">details</a>, but the only news out of the Twitter account is that there is no news at all. Really, we're not surprised with such masterfully crafted tweets as: "<span class="status-body"><span class="entry-content">We're currently working with a third party studio on a new xbox 360 exclusive game engine to showcase unmatched graphical fidilty</span></span>." Yes, "<span class="status-body"><span class="entry-content">fidilty</span></span>."<br /> <br /> Microsoft's (real) Twitter expert <a href="http://twitter.com/majornelson">Major Nelson</a> -- aka Larry Hryb -- tells us he is currently working with the Twitter team to have the account removed. With so many <a href="http://xbox.joystiq.com/2008/12/22/twitters-fake-cliffy-b-gets-shut-down">fake accounts</a>, it's no wonder Twitter is testing a new "<a href="http://twitter.com/help/verified">Verified Account</a>" label. We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Don Mattrick for inspiring a phony Twitter account, following good company such as artist <a href="http://www.rollingstone.com/rockdaily/index.php/2009/05/13/kanye-west-rages-against-twitter-imposters-in-blog-rant/">Kanye West</a>, ass-kicker <a href="http://twitter.com/chucknorris_">Chuck Norris</a> and all of the <em><a href="http://nintendo.joystiq.com/2009/03/31/the-pokemans-we-want-you-to-follow-them/">Pokemans</a></em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/27/psa-how-fake-is-don-mattricks-twitter-so-fake/">PSA: How fake is Don Mattrick's Twitter? And by "Wii hard drive" we actually mean "portable air conditioner." This image emerged from the bowels of the internet earlier today, purporting to be a Nintendo-designed hard drive for the Wii. The pranksters responsible for this didn't count on the razor-sharp observational skills of one <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/jc-fletcher">JC Fletcher</a>, who located <a href="http://www.amazon.co.jp/YAMAZEN-%E3%83%9F%E3%83%8B%E5%86%B7%E9%A2%A8%E6%89%87-YMC-A401-WB-%E3%83%9B%E3%83%AF%E3%82%A4%E3%83%88%E3%83%96%E3%83%AB%E3%83%BC/dp/B0017UAWVY/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&amp;s=kitchen&amp;qid=1218647714&amp;sr=1-2">this</a> familiar-looking air conditioner at Amazon Japan. Nintendo had earlier dismissed the image as "rumor and speculation" when CVG <a href="http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=195193">inquired</a>, but this pretty much nails it.<br /><br />Not that this <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/fake">forgery</a> is good for nothing -- for example, it does give us an excuse to once again raise the issue of <em>where the heck our <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/24/reggie-wii-shortage-is-a-mainstream-problem/">storage solution</a> is, Reggie</em>, and also a chance to guide you into our <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/nintendo-wii-mockups">Wii mockup gallery</a> of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/nintendo-wii-mockups/974380/full/"><em>lulz</em></a>.<br /><br />Yamazen portable air conditioner <a href="http://www.amazon.co.jp/YAMAZEN-%E3%83%9F%E3%83%8B%E5%86%B7%E9%A2%A8%E6%89%87-YMC-A401-WB-%E3%83%9B%E3%83%AF%E3%82%A4%E3%83%88%E3%83%96%E3%83%AB%E3%83%BC/dp/B0017UAWVY/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&amp;s=kitchen&amp;qid=1218647714&amp;sr=1-2">here</a><br />Nintendo's denial <a href="http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=195193">here</a><br /><br />[Update: Spelling correction!]<br /><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/13/save-your-vc-games-to-the-wii-hard-drive/">Save your VC games to the 'Wii hard drive'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 13 Aug 2008 16:30:00 EST. Commenting on the "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/19/buy-nathan-drakes-gun-if-you-must/">replica <em>Uncharted </em>gun</a>," that we posted about yesterday, Sony has told Gamesindustry.biz that it is not officially endorsed and they certainly don't condone it. The gun is supposed to be a replica of Drake's weapon from the 2007 gem, <em>Uncharted: Drake's Fortune</em>. Without official licensing from Sony, however, selling it as such is just a sneaky attempt at cashing in on the game's success. <br /><br />Sony has said that they are "investigating the source of this product and will proceed with the most appropriate action." Appropriate action, in this case, probably means letting loose their pack of half-starved, feral lawyers. So don't expect it to be around for too much longer.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/20/sony-taking-action-against-unlicensed-replica-gun/">Sony taking action against unlicensed replica gun</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 20 May 2008 07:30:00 EST. Many of us here at PSP Fanboy find the sexy red <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/06/god-of-war-entertainment-packs-now-available-for-pre-order/">God of War PSP</a> a worthy object to lust over. This faker called the PNP, on the other hand, is definitely not. While its emulation of the PSP's likeness is sub-par, it is quite easy to be fooled at a quick glance. If you look closer, you'll see a <strike>horizontal</strike> vertical screen that's much smaller than the PSP's. This makes us believe that this little machine of copyright infringement can only go as far as playing Tetris.<br /><br />If you see this anywhere, don't bother with it. If you want a real red PSP, grab yourself the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/godofwar/"><em>God of War</em></a> one that's out this June 3rd.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/19/red-psp-in-early-no-its-just-a-fake-pnp/">Red PSP in early? Leave it to heartbreakers and photoshoppers across the internets to play around with our fragile, Squeenix-loving selves.<br /><br />Rumors of a <em>Kingdom Hearts Wii</em> have been floating around for quite some time -- that's nothing new. People were starting to believe such talk, though, after a "leaked" cover of the next <em>Nintendo Power</em> issue was "found" on an online subscription form. Putting on our skeptic caps, we immediately came up with a few reasons for why this rumor was false:<br />

    <li>There's no 20th anniversary badge on the cover</li>
    <li>There aren't enough headlines and previews (only two, whereas last month's <em>NP</em> had twelve)</li>
    <li><em>Nintendo Power</em> rarely (if ever) features the DS in its top banner, making this cover seem more unlikely<br /></li>
</ul>
In case you're not hip to our sleuthing, though, it was also revealed that the <em>Kingdom Hearts</em> cover art in question came <a href="http://kingdomhearts.deviantart.com/art/Shattered-Mirror-60753954">from DeviantArt</a>, of all places. So, if you see this rumor on your vast travels across the internet, we'd advise you not to believe it -- even if it hurts. While we're not saying <em>Kingdom Hearts Wii</em> will never happen, it's clear that this cover is nothing but a fake.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.gamertell.com/gaming/comment/rumor-kingdom-hearts-could-come-to-the-wii/">GamerTell</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/19/kingdom-hearts-wii-rumor-revealed-debunked/">Kingdom Hearts Wii rumor revealed, debunked</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 19 May 2008 14:00:00 EST. We truly appreciate all the tips about the early release letters allegedly sent by Rockstar and Take-Two telling retailers to just go ahead and release <em>GTA IV</em> to the public ... problem is, it just ain't true. That's it, no need to get into details. The letters are nothing but fakes.<br /><br />Trust us, if <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/Grand-Theft-Auto-IV/"><em>GTA IV</em></a> was given the green light to release early, the <strike>country</strike> planet would certainly know about it within an hour. The deceitful documents can be found in their entirety for perusal below.<br />

More information can be found on the <a href="http://www.bungie.net/News/content.aspx?type=topnews&amp;cid=13413">official post</a> from Luke Smith.<br /><br />We feel like the guys at <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mythbusters"><em>MythBusters</em></a> today. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/25/rumor-gears-of-war-2-beta-in-the-wild/">Three</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/24/rumor-ea-purchases-gta-community-site-for-3-4-million/">myths</a> have been busted by the trusted experts here at Fanboy Towers. This one, we're sad to say, involves the <em>Halo 3</em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/21/rumor-halo-3-to-get-lockout-remake/">Lockout map remake</a> magazine cover we reported over the weekend.<br /><br />The rumor was that the upcoming <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Halo3/"><em>Halo 3</em></a> Legendary <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/20/bungie-sidewinder-more-awesome-avalanche/">Map Pack</a> would include a remade version of the <em>Halo 2</em> map Lockout along with Avalanche (a remade Sidewinder) and Ghost Town. Regarding the Dutch magazine's cover, Bungie's <a href="http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=10303840&amp;postcount=41362">Frank O'Connor</a> and <a href="http://carnage.bungie.org/haloforum/halo.forum.pl?read=870335">Louis Wu</a> have confirmed the magazine is a fake and <a href="http://carnage.bungie.org/haloforum/halo.forum.pl?read=870377">Halo.Bungie.Org</a> user RVideo was kind enough to deconstruct the cover and compare it to actual Power Unlimited cover art. Looks like this one is busted folks, but here's something to think about - the cover has been confirmed busted but no one said anything about the last map not being Lockout! <strike>By the way, don't hold your breath folks</strike>!

Rumors of the final Smash Bros. roster (past the <a href="http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/characters/index.html">25 officially announced characters</a>) are <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/06/07/rumor-smash-bros-swaps-ice-climbers-for-ridley-others/">nothing new</a>, but with the game's Japanese release nearing, such rumors seem to be reaching a fever pitch. The latest fuel for the fire is the above picture, which purports to show a final roster of 44 characters from the Japanese version of the game. The screen has been floated on <a href="http://news.filefront.com/leaked-smash-bros-brawl-screen-unveils-final-roster/">a</a> <a href="http://kotaku.com/348940/ssbb-select-screen-reveals-new-challengers">number</a> <a href="http://gameonnintendo.com/2008/01/22/final-roster-revealed-for-super-smash-bros-brawl/">of</a> <a href="http://www.gametab.com/news/1167985/">sites</a> with varying degrees of credulity -- it was even included at the beginning of a very official-looking <a href="http://www.gametrailers.com/player/29966.html">GameTrailers video</a> introducing moves for three of the confirmed new characters in the game.<br /><br />So is this the holy grail of <span style="font-style: italic;">Brawl</span> information? As much as we'd like to believe it so, we just can't. For one thing, the background seems to be taken directly from <a href="http://www.smashbros.com/jp/gamemode/wi-fi/images/wi-fi04/wi-fi04_071207d-l.jpg">this official image</a> of a much smaller select screen. Everything matches a little too perfectly, from the transparent background image to the floating cursor in the bottom left corner. For another thing, the images many of the "newly revealed" characters are 2D drawings that don't match up well with the 3D renderings for the officially revealed characters. Even for those that are renders, a closely matching source image can usually be found with a quick Google image search, suggesting an overzealous photoshopper.<br /><br />Still, we'd be more than happy to be wrong on this one and to be able to play with this impressive list of Nintendo favorites come March 9. For those who want to cover their ears and hold out a shred of hope, check out a full list of the supposedly "revealed" characters below the jump.<br /><br />[Thanks to everyone who sent this in, whether they believed it or not]<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/25/rumorang-the-final-smash-bros-brawl-roster/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Rumorang: The 'final' Smash Bros. But are they really just pretending? And would you be able to tell if they weren't?<br /><br />MTV's prolific Stephen Totilo has set up a <a href="http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2007/11/12/first-multiplayer-photo-quiz-can-you-spot-the-face-of-a-gamer/">cute little quiz</a> to find out. Inspired by a six-story Target billboard (right) featuring a mischievously grinning "gamer," Totilo has laid out ten pictures, some of people actually enjoying our favorite pastime and others of people who are just posers. The videos aren't the newest, so maybe you've seen them before, but they're no less awesome for all of that.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/21/friday-video-today-back-in-the-day/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Friday Video: Today, back in the day</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/21/friday-video-today-back-in-the-day/">Friday Video: Today, back in the day</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 21 Sep 2007 20:00:00 EST. Many of you were heartbroken to discover that the <em>Golden Sun III</em> news floating around last week just might be <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/12/not-e307-fake-golden-sun-ds-announced/">less-than-real</a>. Well, we hate to break it to you, but the creator has 'fessed up to fanning the flames of fan hopes everywhere. Vooks snagged an interview with the fellow behind the fake and asked the question we were all interested in as well: why? Was it a mean-spirited ploy to dash the hopes of <em>Golden Sun</em> fans? Not at all, says creator Opium. Instead, he hoped to foster discussion about the <em>Golden Sun</em> franchise and get people showing support for the property in the hopes that Camelot might take notice of just how desperate folks are for a new game. He also timed the fake's release carefully, hoping that with the E3 crush, it would get caught up as just another piece of news without people looking too far into whether or not the screens were real -- and it certainly seemed to work, as we saw <em>Golden Sun III</em> cropping up all over the place. <br /><br />As for the how of the thing, Opium cooked up the shots using images from<em> Golden Sun: The Lost Age</em> in Photoshop, and with the aid of a friend, used ninja <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/homebrew/">homebrew</a> skills to get the images to display on his DS. The result was fairly convincing ... and if it happens to help prod developer Camelot into getting to work, then we'll have to be wary around trade shows, as other uber fans might just have to follow in Opium's Photoshopping footsteps.<br /><br />[Thanks, Jordy C!]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/17/the-hows-and-whys-of-the-fake-golden-sun-screens/">The hows and whys of the fake Golden Sun screens</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 17 Jul 2007 14:35:00 EST. Even Joystiq, the wind beneath our wings, fell victim to the malignant screenshots that were supposedly leaked from a "secret press gathering" by person-in-the-know <em>gobo_4227</em>.<br /><br />To your right, you'll see one of those supposed screenshots of <em>Golden Sun: The Sooth Sayer</em> compared with promotional artwork that was released for <em>Golden Sun: The Lost Age</em> back in 2002. Unless you count the bloom filter and "Touch to Start" text, the images are exact twins. The fact that we've heard no official mention of the new <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/RPG/">RPG</a> -- or any other Camelot-developed title for either Nintendo console -- whilst <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/E307">E3</a> continues makes this rumor seem even more unconvincing. <br /><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/12/not-e307-fake-golden-sun-ds-announced/">NOT E307: Fake Golden Sun DS announced</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 12 Jul 2007 16:30:00 EST. Seriously, check the link: "confirmed reports" of <em>Brawl</em> and <em>Galaxy</em> release dates, new <em>Mario Kart </em>and <em>Zelda</em> for the Wii, a new original IP similar to <em>Final Fantasy VII</em> ... it's a Nintendo fan's wet dream. While we can't completely discount the fact that it's real, being constantly exposed to this drivel has to make one just a <em>bit</em> jaded.<br /><br />Rumors <em>are</em> fun, there's no doubt ... even if we know it's fake, it's nice to imagine. But who writes this stuff? What kind of odd psychological thrill do they receive, and why are Nintendo fans so willing to ignore the obvious and go along with it? Some of it is impressive (see <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ayBMe5AvwhI">the Nintendo On video</a>), but it seems that Nintendo is eighteen times more susceptible to ridiculous rumor-mongering than the nearest competitor. Ah well ... it's <em>kinda</em> fun ... we guess. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/wwu">Your thoughts</a>?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/29/wii-warm-up-rumors-are-fun/">Wii Warm Up: Rumors are fun</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 29 May 2007 09:00:00 EST. Do any of these scenes sound familiar? Staring outside the window, watching your friends learn to ride a bike with their dads while you spend the afternoon alone, cutting out misshapen <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/26/virtually-overlooked-bronkie-the-bronchiasaurus/">dinosaurs</a> from construction paper? Learning to shave from that <a href="http://youtube.com/watch?v=mD7ZBF4k34A">old <em>Simpsons</em> episode</a> when Homer taught Bart instead of having your own pops show you how to use a razor? Buying a Father's Day card every year "just in case," even though you know there's no point? It's been over 20 years; why would he want to see you now?<br /><br />With IBW Publications' <em>NintenDadz</em> software, you can still have those essential life lessons and childhood experiences that single-parent families often lack. Play catch in the backyard, build a birdhouse, and enjoy dozens of other simulated father-son activities with over 100 <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/minigames">minigames</a> to choose from! Leave your self-pity at the door, and run past the post break for the <span style="font-style: italic;">NintenDadz</span> fact sheet and the father you've always wished would come home.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/24/nintendadz-never-good-enough-for-you-edition/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>NintenDadz: Never Good Enough For You Edition</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/24/nintendadz-never-good-enough-for-you-edition/">NintenDadz: Never Good Enough For You Edition</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 24 May 2007 13:00:00 EST. Welcome to many site's nebulous comprehension that April Fool's Day is actually April 1 -- not the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/17/beware-the-april-fools-in-mid-march/">day or week</a> before, or the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/10/mario-disney-mushroom-kingdom-hearts/">whole month</a> for that matter. Wii.TV gets the first spot in our alerts as they <a href="http://www.wii.tv/2007/03/31/wiitv-exclusive-new-title-announcement/">announce</a> <em>Legend of Zelda</em> ... that's it, they didn't even bother to come up with a subhead. Go through the effort of editing a five minute video and don't even bother to come up with a full title. No, Legend of Zelda: Future Calls or Legend of Zelda: Knights of the Ganon Wars. <br /><br />The video is a compilation of <em>Star Wars</em> concept drawings,<em> Final Fantasy</em> stills and other random elements. Actually, that would make for a good deconstruction exercise. Know where the components come from? Some of our readers may have seen the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/media/2007/03/halo3betaemailyy5.png">image</a> above -- minus the "bogus," of course -- floating around the internet since yesterday. Okay, the creator of the image claims that it is an official email containing a download code for the <em>Halo 3</em> beta. Let's look at why this is categorically untrue.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/28/halo-3-beta-shenanigans-shenanigans-we-say/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Halo 3 beta shenanigans, shenanigans we say!</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/28/halo-3-beta-shenanigans-shenanigans-we-say/">Halo 3 beta shenanigans, shenanigans we say!</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 28 Mar 2007 13:05:00 EST. If this <em>were</em> real, then we'd have to assume that Sony's fired all of their graphics designers because this is one of the worst Photoshop jobs I've seen. Heck, our own <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/02/27/may-i-have-the-envelope-please/">fan-created 'shop jobs</a> were infinitely better than this. This horrifyingly uncomfortable-looking device is nicknamed the "Cobalt" and comes with these supposed specs:</p><p>o. All Metal &amp; Ruggedized Rubber Build<br />
o. 200% Brighter Screen<br />
o. Dual Analog Controllers<br />
o. Visual Battery Display<br />
o. 8GB Flash Drive<br />
o. Wifi (a,b,g)<br />
o. Bluetooth V.2 (A2DP, AVRCP)<br />
o. Firmware 4.07</p><p>Whoever made this design has either: a) never used a PSP (firmware 4.07???) or b) plays his PSP upside-down. I'd make fun of it more ... but I'll leave that up to you guys.</p><p>[Thanks, dondy! No, folks, astrology is total crap, but that didn't stop some hotshot from making an entertaining article using lots of silly-sounding terms like "synastry" and "radix". Who's destined to come out on top?<br /><br />As it turns out, Sony has its celestial bodies in order for the coming year. The 360 is decent, but the worst? My goodness, it's the Nintendo Wii. Apparently, the Wii's residence within Scorpio denotes permanence. A reader sent them pictures of his bruised face (and bruised television) and blamed the whole thing on the Wii. He really should have blamed his poor Photoshop skills. Next time you try to scam folks, may we suggest not choosing the <a href="http://images.google.com/images?q=black%20eye&amp;ie=UTF-8&amp;oe=UTF-8&amp;rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&amp;client=firefox-a&amp;sa=N&amp;tab=wi">second result on a Google image search</a>? We just hope someone films it. They found another one, which makes the oft-rumored <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/09/05/calling-all-psps/">PSP phone</a> a reality... sort of. The <a href="http://www.akihabaranews.com/en/en/news-12744-The%20Chinese%20PSP%20phone%21.html">V191 phone</a> has a 1.3Mpix camera, MP3 music player, and an MP4 video player. Sounds familiar? It also has a gaming feature, which seems to readily allow illegally emulated games to play on the phone. Hmm.<br /><br />This sounds very cool and all, but we can't help but be discouraged by the phone's clear lack of creativity in the design department. The back of the phone features the PSP's unique metallic circle, and it also has the word "FUN" written in the PSP's font. Check out more pictures at <a href="http://www.akihabaranews.com/en/en/news-12744-The%20Chinese%20PSP%20phone%21.html">Akihabara</a>, where you can how this bootleg phone stole the PSP's D-Pad, and face buttons as well. Even though it's not original, it does seem pretty cool.<br /><br /><strong>See also:</strong><br /><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/10/09/psp-phone-resurfaces-in-design-contest/">PSP phone resurfaces in design contest</a><br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2006/11/06/china-produces-v191-all-in-one-pmp-cellphone/">Engadget</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/11/06/psp-phone-becomes-a-reality-in-cheap-chinese-knock-off-form/">PSP phone becomes a reality, in cheap Chinese knock-off form</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 06 Nov 2006 12:45:00 EST. One creative student decided to take the opportunity to render his idea about the rumored <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/09/05/calling-all-psps/">Ericsson PlayStation phone</a>. This render features a UMD slot and a DS-inspired flip-top. This render is also shown to be slightly smaller, but thicker, than the PSP itself. What do you guys think about it? If it didn't cost a gazillion dollars, would you pick one up?<br /><br />[Thanks, christian! Well, Sony should be incredibly flattered by the endless amounts of cheap PSP knock-offs there are on the market. While the bootlegs that we <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/08/25/engadgets-ultimate-fake-psp-collection/">unearthed earlier</a> could do only the most primitive of things, it appears that the latest batch discovered by <a href="http://cn.engadget.com/2006/09/11/keepin-it-real-fake-chinese-psp-blowout-edition/">Engadget China</a> take a lot of Sony's functionality as well. For example, the system pictured above features a 16:9 screen and can play MP3 and WMA music files, and play MP4 movies. Sounds vaguely familiar... It's August 25th. You know what that means... only 4 months until Christmas! Better start shopping. While you could get your friends <a href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000F2DE8S/prey0f?creative=327641&amp;camp=14573&amp;adid=1PWJKN5WDH9218N87M61&amp;link_code=as1"><em>real PSPs</em></a> (or even better yet: a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/08/25/play-asia-jacks-up-prices-of-signature-psps/">signature edition PSP</a>), but if you're a cold-hearted Scrooge like me, you'll much rather get them knockoffs. Sure, PSP Fanboy's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/07/17/yet-another-fake-psp-making-the-rounds/">shown you a few</a> before, but Engadget has rounded up a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2006/08/25/keepin-it-real-fake-ultimate-psp-extravaganza-edition/">real winner of a list</a> here. For the price of one real PSP, you can piss off at least <em>nine</em> of your friends. And isn't that what the holiday spirit is about?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/08/25/engadgets-ultimate-fake-psp-collection/">Engadget's ultimate fake PSP collection</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 25 Aug 2006 15:00:00 EST. With bated breath, we loaded the site. The cool, crisp image of Mario brought a collective sigh fluttering from our lips. Yes, friends, readers ... <em>we wanted to eat Mario</em>, we wanted that game so badly. <em>We could taste him</em>. </p>
<p>But a quick check of the registered owner of the site dashed all our hopes into a tiny pile of shattered dreams salted with the tears of disappointment. Looks like <a href="http://www.xbox360-forums.com/">someone</a> grabbed a domain early, just to beat the rush. Sigh. It's-a not Mario.</p>

This is one of them.<br /><br />This pretty piece of work surfaced as a possible title screen for <em>Halo 3</em>. It was discussed without end among forum goers and Xbox 360 fans. But apparently it was just a sham. There's been a "Bungie Update" calling this one out as nothing but a faked image. Sure, it's convincing, but most pranks are. Keep your eyes peeled, this probably won't be the last of 'em.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/05/17/bungie-downs-the-fake-halo-3-screen/">Bungie downs the fake Halo 3 screen</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 17 May 2006 11:00:00 EST. Here's a snazzy&nbsp;
"screenshot" from the PS3 title <em>Motorstorm</em> presented at last year's E3:<br /><br /><img vspace="4"
hspace="4" border="1" alt="" src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/2006/03/motorstormlie1.jpg" /><br /><br />And
here's an actual game image from <em>Motorstorm</em> taken at the recent Game Developers Conference in San Jose (click
for larger image):<br /><br /><a href="http://www.ukresistance.co.uk/pics3/motorstormshame.jpg"><img width="425"
vspace="4" hspace="4" height="241" border="1" align="middle" alt=""
src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/2006/03/motorstormshame2.jpg" /></a><br /><br />I know it's not a 1: 1
comparison, and perhaps the quality of the grab is poor, but do Kutaragi &amp; Ko. really think Xbox 360 fanboys aren't
going to <a href="http://www.ukresistance.co.uk/2006/03/ps3-lie-watch-evidence-updated.html">bust balls</a> over this
stuff? Because that looks painfully PS2.5. Maybe it's from the PSP version.&nbsp; <br /><br />It's not like Sony has a
history of grossly exaggerating the capabilities of their consoles and passing off CGI fluff as gameplay.<br /><br
/>[Thanks Charch]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/03/29/phony-ps3-screenshots-busted/">Phony PS3 screenshot busted?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 29 Mar 2006 13:00:00 EST. One recurring
theme of the Nintendo GO rumor is the design's 6-faced D-pad logo pictured above on the right which--it turns out--looks
very similar to the logo of a discontinued web design suite called Namo Webeditor 5 (<a
href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00005TP3T/xq23-20/104-4420620-3975947">link to the product's Amazon
page</a>). <br /><br />We'd love to say that this totally disproves the rumor's legitimacy but considering the D-pad
design's obvious connection to Nintendo, it's equally possible that Nintendo (if GO is real) or the hoaxer (if GO is
fake) could have been completely unaware of the design's likeness to Webeditor 5's logo. The mystery continues...<br
/><br />[Thanks, hellmasterx]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/03/25/proof-that-nintendo-go-is-a-no-go/">Proof that Nintendo GO is a no-go?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 25 Mar 2006 15:00:00 EST.
