While the Call of Duty franchise has enjoyed year-over-year growth in terms of worldwide sales, numbers released this week for the UK tell a different story for that particular region. According to the UK's Entertainment Retailers Association, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/call-of-duty-modern-warfare-3"><em>Modern Warfare 3</em></a> moved 2,814,298 units between launch on November 8 and December 31, 2011, while Call of Duty's 2010 entry, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/call-of-duty-black-ops"><em>Black Ops</em></a>, sold 3,266,298 across the same holiday sales period in the previous year.<br />
<br />
That's a decline of 452,000 units from Treyarch-developed <em>Black Ops</em> in 2010 to Infinity Ward/Sledgehammer Games-developed <em>Modern Warfare 3</em> in 2011, though the latter was the fastest entertainment property in history to reach <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/12/activision-trumpets-1-billion-for-modern-warfare-3/">$1 billion in sales</a>. As <a href="http://www.mcvuk.com/news/read/modern-warfare-3-beats-black-ops-by-0-5m-copies-in-uk/089688?utm_source=feedburner&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Feed%3A+mcvuk%2Fstream+%28MCV%3A+Home+Stream%29">MCV</a> points out, FIFA sales were also in decline in the UK, with nearly 200K fewer copies sold during 2011 than in 2010. All that said, let's not lose any sleep over the declines -- both CoD and FIFA's 2011 entries sold in the many millions in just the UK, let alone worldwide.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/12/modern-warfare-3-holiday-numbers-indicate-franchise-sales-declin/">Modern Warfare 3 holiday numbers indicate franchise sales decline in UK</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 12 Jan 2012 18:00:00 EST. If you came here expecting not to see the <em>Zumba Fitness</em> lady's beautifully shaven armpits for another week ... sorry, buddy. In its ninth consecutive week leading the class on Chart-Track's <a href="http://www.chart-track.co.uk/index.jsp?c=p/software/uk/latest/index_test.jsp&amp;ct=110015">All Formats chart</a> (with 12 total #1 appearances), <em>Zumba Fitness</em> dropped seven percent in sales.<br />
<br />
This week's top ten is a shuffle of all the usual suspects. Disney's <em>Lego Pirates of the Caribbean</em> went up one spot into second, thanks to price promotions, and <em>Cars 2</em> kept the parking break on in third.<br />
<br />
The big mover last week in the top 40 was <em>Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D</em>, up 60 percent from 39th place to 13th, thanks to the recent 3DS hardware drop. It remains the only 3DS exclusive in the Top 40 and, according to Chart-Track, outsold the next biggest 3DS title five to one.<br />
<br />
Check out the UK Top Ten after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/15/zumba-fitness-endures-ninth-week-atop-uk-charts-no-sweat/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Zumba Fitness endures ninth week atop UK charts, no sweat</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/15/zumba-fitness-endures-ninth-week-atop-uk-charts-no-sweat/">Zumba Fitness endures ninth week atop UK charts, no sweat</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 15 Aug 2011 09:45:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/EA/">EA</a> enjoyed solid growth in the final quarter of its 2011 fiscal year (ending March 31), thanks in large part to a bump in digital revenue. Digital sales were up $67 million from the same period a year ago to $211 million. Good ol' boxed games weren't slouching though, as packaged goods revenue increased $44 million up to $838 million. In all, EA rebounded from its <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/02/ea-incurs-322-million-loss-in-q3-22-of-employees-in-low-cost/">rough Q3</a> to record $151 million in profit during the fiscal fourth quarter.<br />
<br />
The engine for that growth was a surprisingly impressive quarterly lineup for the company. Seven of its titles from fiscal Q4 have surpassed 1 million units shipped, with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/crysis-2"><em>Crysis 2</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dead-space-2"><em>Dead Space 2</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/dragon-age-2"><em>Dragon Age 2</em></a> all over the 2-million-shipped mark. DLC for those titles (like <em>Dead Space 2's </em>"Severed" add-on) was the cornerstone of digital profits, as well. Over its entire 2011 fiscal year, EA shipped 12 million units of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/fifa-11"><em>FIFA 11</em></a>, 7 million copies of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/battlefield-bad-company-2"><em>Bad Company 2</em></a> (released at the tail end of FY10), and five million each of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/medal-of-honor-2011">Medal of Honor</a></em>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/need-for-speed-hot-pursuit"><em>Hot Pursuit</em></a> and <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/madden-nfl-11">Madden 11</a></em>.<br />
<br />
But it seems that, in the grand scheme, these titles weren't enough to alter EA's fortunes for the fiscal year, which ended in a $267 million loss for the company. We suppose there's still a bit of a silver lining, however -- those losses would seem to sting considerably less than the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/11/ea-posts-677-million-loss-in-fy2010-alongside-downed-revenues/">$677 million lost</a> by EA just one year prior.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/04/ea-grows-digital-sales-in-q4-stems-losses-for-fiscal-year/">EA grows digital sales in Q4, stems losses for fiscal year</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 04 May 2011 17:50:00 EST. EA says that thanks to a variety of promotions and initiatives from quite a few of its studios, the company has <a href="http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/34228/EA_Raises_Over_1M_For_Japanese_Earthquake_Tsunami_Aid_.php">raised over a million dollars</a> for helping those affected by the recent natural disasters in Japan. There were quite a few different efforts going, from <a href="http://www.needforspeed.com/post/helping-japan-fifa-11-ultimate-team">selling <em>FIFA 11</em> DLC</a> to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/05/autographed-dead-space-gear-auctioned-for-japan-relief/">auctioning off <em>Dead Space 2</em> gear</a> and even selling <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/28/grasshoppers-charity-ios-game-is-frog-minutes-coming-march-30/">a brand new iOS app called <em>Frog Minutes</em></a>.<br />
<br />
Employees at the Canada Burnaby campus also assisted by packing 100,000 meals with <a href="http://www.kidsagainsthunger.org/">Kids Against Hunger</a>, which were then sent out to affected areas in Japan. If you'd like to donate to the Red Cross and its efforts in Japan, you can <a href="http://american.redcross.org/site/PageServer?pagename=ntld_main&amp;s_src=RSG000000000&amp;s_subsrc=RCO_FrontPagePanel">do so right here</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/24/eas-various-studios-raise-over-a-million-dollars-in-charity-for/">EA's various studios raise over a million dollars in charity for Japan</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 24 Apr 2011 17:30:00 EST. <em>Zumba Fitness</em>, which recently launched on Wii, has been working out in the top spot on the UK sales charts for a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/11/zumba-fitness-overtakes-crysis-2-for-top-uk-sales-spot/">second week</a>. With <em>Zumba Fitness</em> on the lips (and working those hips) of the populace, the Xbox 360 version also saw a 14 percent sales increase.<br />
<br />
<em>Lego Star Wars 3: The Clone Wars</em> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/crysis-2"><em>Crysis 2</em></a> dueled for second, but ultimately the multiplatform blockheads used The Force to push the billion-dollar nanosuit down into third.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.chart-track.co.uk/?i=1074&amp;s=1111">Chart-Track</a> notes that the upcoming Easter holiday spurred plenty of retailer sales, which likely contributed to strong sales increases of <em>Call of Duty: Black Ops</em> (+62%, #9), <em>Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4</em> (+112%, #11) and <em>Red Dead Redemption</em> (+458%, #13). Head past the break for the top ten.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/18/zumba-keeps-on-dancing-atop-uk-charts/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Zumba keeps on dancing atop UK charts</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/18/zumba-keeps-on-dancing-atop-uk-charts/">Zumba keeps on dancing atop UK charts</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 18 Apr 2011 09:15:00 EST. Guess what, film and music industries? You guys got <em>taken to school</em> in the UK's <a href="http://www.mcvuk.com/news/43951/COD-is-UKs-biggest-entertainment-product-of-2010">Top 40 entertainment product rankings</a>, as compiled by trade organization Entertainment Retailers Association. According to the chart, the number one entertainment property in the UK was neither a blockbuster film like <em>Avatar</em>, nor a chart-topping album like Take That's <em>Progress</em>, but rather <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/call-of-duty-black-ops"><em>Call of Duty: Black Ops</em></a>, which sold over 3.2 million units in the territory last year. <em>Booyah</em>.<br />
<br />
Two other games, <em>FIFA 11</em> and <em>Just Dance</em>, made it into the Top 10 -- however, only nine spots on the entire Top 40 chart were occupied by games. We're not sure what that says about the country's media consumption habits, but we are sure that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/red-dead-redemption"><em>Red Dead Redemption</em></a> got beaten out by <em>Now That's What I Call Music 77</em>, and that fills our heart with a dull, constant ache.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/14/black-ops-fifa-just-dance-make-uks-top-10-entertainment-produ/">Black Ops, FIFA, Just Dance make UK's Top 10 entertainment products</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 14 Apr 2011 05:00:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/killzone-3"><em>Killzone 3</em></a> beat out the other high-profile FPS premiere, <em>Bulletstorm</em>, on the UK charts last week, but it didn't out-debut its predecessor, <em>Killzone 2</em>. According to <a href="http://www.chart-track.co.uk/?i=1043&amp;s=1111">Chart-Track</a>, <em>Killzone 3</em> is the "14th fastest-selling" Sony title in first-week UK sales -- <em>Killzone 2</em> is the fifth.<br />
<br />
More shooting, and some kicking, got it done for third and fourth place in last week's sales ranking, as <em>Call of Duty: Black Ops</em> and <em>FIFA 11</em> took the spots below the two debut shooters. The previous week's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/21/black-ops-outmaneuvers-marvel-vs-capcom-3-on-uk-charts/"><em>almost</em> top title</a>, <em>Marvel vs. Capcom 3,</em> slipped from second down to seventh.<br />
<br />
Where's <em>Just Dance 2</em>, you ask? In fifth, of course. <em>Dead Space 2</em> became 2011's first repeat #1 in weekly UK software sales last week, according to <a href="http://www.chart-track.co.uk/?i=1029&amp;s=1111">Chart-Track</a>, as it beat out a resurgent <em>FIFA 11 </em>(which <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/10/fifa-11-kicks-off-2011-atop-uk-charts/">began the year</a> at #1) to stay atop the charts in its second week at retail. The week's new releases failed to crack the top ten, however, as <a href="http://mario-vs-donkey-kong-mini-land-mayhem">the latest <em>Mario vs. Donkey Kong</em></a> (DS) and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/mario-sports-mix/"><em>Mario Sports Mix</em></a> (Wii) debuted at #11 and #12, respectively. (The only other new entry to make the <a href="http://www.chart-track.co.uk/index.jsp?c=p/software/uk/latest/index_test.jsp&amp;ct=110015">top 40</a> was <em>The Sims 3: Outdoor Living Stuff</em> expansion.)<br />
<br />
Back in the top ten, <em>LittleBigPlanet 2</em> floated down two spots during the week to #5, while the surprising <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/art-academy"><em>Art Academy</em></a> (DS) stayed in attendance, graduating <em>up</em> to #8 (from #9 the previous week). What are the chances <em>Just Dance 2</em> finally ran out of moves? Isaac Clarke's Necromorph nightmare is a dream for EA, as <em>Dead Space 2</em> reached the top spot on the all formats UK sales chart last week. According to <a href="http://www.chart-track.co.uk/?i=1025&amp;s=1111">Chart-Track,</a> launch sales of the intense sequel were up 70 percent from when <em>Dead Space</em> debuted at sixth in 2008.<br />
<br />
Sackboy took a 48 percent sales tumble, dropping <em>LittleBigPlanet 2</em> into second, while <em>FIFA 11 </em>enjoyed the top-seated action in third. The peanut-butter-and-jelly goodness of stabbing and shooting round out the top five with <em>Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood</em> and <em>Call of Duty: Black Ops</em> in fourth and fifth, respectively.<br />
<br />
The week also saw the return of the original <em>Just Dance</em> into the top ten, meaning Ubisoft had the original and its sequel in the top ten just cha-cha-chinging away. Check out the top ten in UK sales after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/31/dead-space-2-engineers-top-entry-on-uk-sales-chart/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Dead Space 2 engineers top entry on UK sales chart</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/31/dead-space-2-engineers-top-entry-on-uk-sales-chart/">Dead Space 2 engineers top entry on UK sales chart</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 31 Jan 2011 10:30:00 EST. <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/DC-Universe-Online/">DC Universe Online</a> </em>flew into <a href="http://www.chart-track.co.uk/?i=1017&amp;s=1111">Chart-Track</a>'s UK sales chart this week and nipped a spot in the top ten. The PS3 and PC superhero simulator debuted in tenth place and, according to Chart-Track, is only the fourth retail title on PS3 to be online-only. The other internet-required games are <em>MAG</em>, <em>Warhawk</em> and <em>SOCOM: US Navy Seals Confrontation</em>.<br />
<br />
The rest of the top ten is composed of the usual suspects playing musical chairs. <em>Call of Duty: Black Ops</em> is back on top, followed by <em>FIFA 11</em> and the unstoppable <em>Just Dance 2</em>. Speaking of dance games, Harmonix's <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/Dance-Central">Dance Central</a></em> is eyeing a spot in the top ten as it moves from 17 to 12 this week.<br />

</a></div>
For the first full week of 2011, <em>FIFA 11</em> held onto the top spot in the UK's multiplatform sales ranking, according to <a href="http://www.chart-track.co.uk/index.jsp?c=p/software/uk/latest/index_test.jsp&amp;ct=110015">Chart-Track</a>. The footie franchise has maintained that center forward position for four consecutive weeks.<br />
<br />
Oh ... oh, look who's in second place, why if it isn't our good friend <em>Just Dance 2</em>. Ubisoft's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/21/just-dance-series-sales/">unstoppable</a> booty-shaking series keeps on crunkin', with the series' sequel inexplicably moving up two spots into second. Thus, <em>Call of Duty: Black Ops</em> finds itself out of its comfort zone in third place, the first time it hasn't been in the top two since its November launch.<br />
<br />
It would seem <em>Mass Effect 2's</em> various <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/31/best-games-2010-mass-effect-2/">end of year accolades</a> spurred interest in the game again, as it returned to the top 40 in spot 18. With no new major game releases this past week, the chart is a shifting of the usual suspects. Check out the top ten after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/10/fifa-11-kicks-off-2011-atop-uk-charts/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>FIFA 11 kicks off 2011 atop UK charts</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/10/fifa-11-kicks-off-2011-atop-uk-charts/">FIFA 11 kicks off 2011 atop UK charts</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 10 Jan 2011 09:00:00 EST. <em>Call of Duty Black Ops</em> and <em>FIFA 11</em> have been fighting for that top spot on the UK charts this holiday season, but <em>FIFA 11</em> took back number one on <a href="http://www.chart-track.co.uk/index.jsp?c=p/software/uk/latest/index_test.jsp&amp;ct=110015">Chart-Track's All Formats chart</a> for the week ending January 1, 2011. <em>Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit</em>, (the perennial) <em>Just Dance 2</em> and <em>Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood</em> didn't move a muscle, maintaining their spots in third, fourth and fifth place, respectively.<br />
<br />
Microsoft's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Kinect/">Kinect</a> had two games in the top ten in the twilight of 2010. <em>Kinect Sports</em> has been hanging around since the peripheral launched, but <em>Dance Central</em> is apparently gaining the attention it deserves, storming the dance floor into tenth place, up nine spots from the prior week. There were five Kinect games in the top 40 this past week, the most since the device's launch week.<br />

For a second year in a row going into Christmas, the <em>Call of Duty</em> franchise is king of the <a href="http://www.chart-track.co.uk/index.jsp?c=p/software/uk/latest/index_test.jsp&amp;ct=110015">Chart-Track UK All Formats chart</a>, with <em>CoD:Black Ops</em> sales slightly up and occupying the space where <em>CoD: Modern Warfare 2</em> was last year. <em>FIFA 11</em> placed second, which is nothing unusual. However, coming out of nowhere, <em>Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit</em> sales jumped 48 percent, which boosted the game from seventh to third. <br />
<br />
Occupying the fourth and fifth spots respectively are Ubisoft's <em>Just Dance 2</em> and <em>Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood</em>. <em>Just Dance 2 </em>sales were up fifteen percent this week, which means, unless something very strange happens next week, a member of the <em>Just Dance</em> franchise will have been in the top of the UK charts for all of 2010. The first <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/25/just-dance-just-keeps-groovin-atop-uk-charts/"><em>Just Dance</em> owned</a> much of the early part of the year.<br />

<em>Gran Turismo 5</em> ran out of gas after its <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/29/gran-turismo-5-starts-at-pole-position-in-uk-sales-chart/">debut week</a>, dropping 61 percent in sales and into fourth place on <a href="http://www.chart-track.co.uk/?i=990&amp;s=1111">Chart-Track</a>'s UK All Formats chart. The top three titles were <em>Call of Duty: Black Ops</em>, <em>FIFA 11</em> and <em>Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood</em>. The big premieres for the week were <em>Donkey Kong Country Returns</em> and <em>Super Mario All-Stars 25th Anniversary</em> at 13 and 22, respectively.<br />
<br />
So, last week we almost neglected to mention <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/disney-epic-mickey"><em>Disney Epic Mickey</em></a>, because it didn't make the Top 40. We thought its performance might have been an anomaly ... until it missed out again on the Top 40 and maintained its place at #11 on the Wii Chart. Not a good sign.<br />
<br />
Comparatively, Ubisoft's <em>Michael Jackson: The Experience</em>, which debuted down at #38 last week, had a thriller of a second week, shooting up to sixth place. It's now holding hands with Ubisoft's stalwart <em>Just Dance</em> franchise, which had its numerical sequel in the fifth spot. <em>Gran Turismo 5</em> raced into first place on the UK sales chart last week, becoming the sixth largest PS3 launch ever in the region. In a good sign for the oft-delayed franchise installment, sales were up 6 percent from <em>Gran Turismo 4</em>'s launch week numbers in March 2005 on the PS2 (according to Chart-Track).<br />
<br />
<em>Call of Duty: Black Ops</em> and <em>Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood</em> both took one step back this week, grabbing silver and bronze, respectively. <em>CoD:Blops</em> dropped another 42 percent in sales two weeks after its <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/15/call-of-duty-black-ops-breaks-uk-launch-records/">record-setting premiere</a>, while <em>AC:B</em> slipped off a Borgia tower, but caught itself 32 percent of the way down.<br />
<br />
<em>FIFA 11</em> took the fourth spot with a sales surge, and fifth belongs to... yup, loyal chart watchers, you got it: <em>Just Dance 2</em> is unstoppable as it waves its arms in the air, selling copies like it just don't care. As for debuts on the chart that didn't go vroom-vroom, <em>Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare</em> shambled in at 14, while Ubisoft's <em>Michael Jackson: The Experience</em> had the late king of pop make one duke-y of a debut down at 38. <br />
<strong>Update</strong>: We just noticed that <em>Disney Epic Mickey</em> began its retail quest in the UK last week. It didn't even make the Top 40 in the All Formats chart. It debuted at the 11 spot on the <a href="http://www.chart-track.co.uk/index.jsp?c=p/software/uk/latest/index_test.jsp&amp;ct=110030">Wii Chart</a>. For comparison's sake, <em>Michael Jackson: The Experience </em>premiered at number five on the Wii chart, which ended up being 38 on the All Formats.<em><br />

<em>Call of Duty: Black Ops</em> sales may have dropped 85 percent in the UK last week, but even with that massive dip its <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/15/call-of-duty-black-ops-breaks-uk-launch-records/">record-breaking debut</a> ensured that <em>Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood</em> would stop at second place. 63,000 copies separated the two.<br />
<br />
According to <a href="http://www.chart-track.co.uk/?i=982&amp;s=1111">Chart-Track</a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/assassins-creed-brotherhood"><em>Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood</em></a> had the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/16/assassins-creed-brotherhood-review/">well-deserved</a>, largest debut of the franchise to date. The only other top ten premiere this week came from <em>Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit</em>, which raced into third place.<br />
<br />
The remainder of spots in the top five are occupied with games that involve feet. <em>FIFA 11</em> defends its spot at fourth, as <em>Just Dance</em> continues reaping the benefits of its Faustian deal and its sequel does the Charleston in fifth. Here is the second edition of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/12/npd-changes-monthly-reporting-removes-hardware-and-software-uni/">revised</a> (and less informative) monthly NPD report. With the market research group no longer sharing specific hardware figures, it's noteworthy to point out that only Microsoft has (as of writing) released concrete sales numbers. Major Nelson <a href="http://twitter.com/majornelson/status/4672913189904384">tweeted</a> that Microsoft sold 325K Xbox 360s <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/15/pachter-254k-wiis-sold-in-september-312k-ps3s/">in October</a>. Although the figure represents a 32-percent drop from the previous month, it was enough to secure Microsoft's spot as best-selling console of the month. Major Nelson also added that the Xbox 360 "is the best selling console in 2010 [with] 3.5 million" sold so far.<br />
<br />
Sony's response doesn't offer console sales numbers, but Patrick Seybold commented on increased momentum for the company's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/playstation-move">PlayStation Move</a> motion controller. "The PS3 Move Bundle had a 15-percent increase in sales since launch last month, and we're working hard to keep the inventory up across the country to meet strong consumer demand." In addition, Seybold reminded us of the impending launch of Sony's big holiday game: "With next week's launch of the industry's most anticipated title, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/gran-turismo-5"><em>Gran Turismo 5</em></a>, we're sure to carry the momentum through the holidays."<br />
<br />
Nintendo, as of the time of publishing, had not offered comment.<br />
<br />
Software sales jumped 6 percent year-over-year for the month to $605 million. The multiplatform release of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/nba-2k11"><em>NBA 2K11</em></a> helped propel it to the top of the charts, undoubtedly aided by EA Sports' <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/02/nba-elite-11-canceled-series-handed-off-to-ea-tiburon/">cancellation</a> of <em>NBA Elite 11</em>. <em>Fallout</em>, <em>Medal of Honor</em> and <em>Fable</em> all made strong debuts -- but <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/rock-band-3"><em>Rock Band 3</em></a><em>'s</em> 15th-place position in sales has us <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/11/rock-band-developer-harmonix-to-be-sold-by-viacom/">concerned</a>. NPD analyst Anita Frazier did make a special note in the report, assuring us that "this game has the potential to perform well over the holidays."<br />

We already knew<em> Call of Duty: Black Ops</em> shattered day-one <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/12/call-of-duty-black-ops-shatters-uk-day-one-sales-record/">sales records in the UK</a>, but let's just add a full week of intel to that with reports of 2 million units sold in the region over five days. <a href="http://www.chart-track.co.uk/?i=978&amp;s=1111">Chart-Track</a> estimates Activision-Blizzard's latest installment of the hit franchise took in a comfortable &pound;81.9 million ($131.5M). <br />
<br />
For some disturbing perspective, <em>Black Ops</em> grossed more during its launch than the whole UK entertainment software market did over the past couple weeks ... <em>combined</em>. According to Chart-Track, last week became the highest grossing week in UK entertainment software history, with &pound;113.8 million in sales. The last record breaker was &pound;107.6 million, back in <a href="http://www.chart-track.co.uk/index.jsp?c=p%2Fsoftware%2Fuk%2Farchive%2Findex_test.jsp&amp;ct=110015&amp;arch=t&amp;lyr=2008&amp;year=2008&amp;week=52">week 52 of 2008</a>. (What was the <a href="http://www.chart-track.co.uk/?i=616&amp;s=1111">number one game then</a>? <em>Call of Duty: World at War</em>.)<br />
<br />
The record-breaking week was assisted by the launch of Microsoft's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Kinect/">Kinect</a> peripheral. Eight of the 11 UK Kinect launch titles debuted in the Top 40. The top premieres were <em>Kinect Sports</em>, <em>Dance Central</em> and Ubi's <em>Motion Sports</em>, which took fourth, 13th and 15th places, respectively. Check out the full UK top ten after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/15/call-of-duty-black-ops-breaks-uk-launch-records/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Call of Duty: Black Ops breaks UK launch records</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/15/call-of-duty-black-ops-breaks-uk-launch-records/">Call of Duty: Black Ops breaks UK launch records</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 15 Nov 2010 09:37:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/fable-3"><em>Fable 3</em></a> lost the UK sales chart crown last week to not one, but <em>two</em>, footie titles. The football revolution sent Lionhead's Albion simulator to third as <em>FIFA 11</em> maintained its spot in second and ... oh my, the PC-exclusive <em>Football Manager 2011</em> premiered at the premier spot. According to <a href="http://www.chart-track.co.uk/?i=973&amp;s=1111">Chart-Track</a>, it was only the second PC-exclusive title to reach the top spot this year, with the other being <em>StarCraft 2</em>.<br />
<br />
Ubisoft's <em>Just Dance 2</em> maintained its fourth place. If the title has the stamina of its older sibling, 2010 might have a <em>Just Dance</em> representative in the top ten throughout the entire year. <em>Professor Layton and The Lost Future</em> rounded out the top five.<br />
<br />
Other high-profile premieres last week, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/goldeneye-007"><em>Goldeneye 007</em></a> for Wii and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/007-blood-stone"><em>007: Blood Stone</em></a>, had licenses to kill the #13 and #18 spots, respectively. Spy with your double-0 eye the UK top ten after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/08/football-manager-2011-debuts-atop-uk-charts-bond-finds-quantum/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Football Manager 2011 debuts atop UK charts, Bond finds quantum of solace in teens</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/08/football-manager-2011-debuts-atop-uk-charts-bond-finds-quantum/">Football Manager 2011 debuts atop UK charts, Bond finds quantum of solace in teens</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 08 Nov 2010 09:10:00 EST. Electronic Arts has announced that its <em>FIFA</em> soccer franchise has reached sales of over 100 million units during its 18-year-long lifetime, and that's a lot of virtual soccer balls. <em>FIFA Soccer 11</em> helped push the series over the century mark, selling 2.6 million copies in its first five days, making it the fastest selling sports video game of all time.<br />
<br />
To celebrate, EA is giving this year's version of its tie-in management game, <a href="http://www.ea.com/soccer/fifa-ultimate-team"><em>FIFA 11 Ultimate Team</em></a>, away for free along with the main game. Last year, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/01/fifa-10-ultimate-team-dlc-pitched-amid-sales-surge/">the DLC was sold for an extra charge</a>, but in <em>FIFA 11</em>, players can download the new mode for free, and it features both an enhanced multiplayer mode where players can pit their teams against each other, as well as <a href="http://www.ea.com/soccer/fifa-ultimate-team/play">a full-featured web app</a> to auction and trade players outside of the console title.<br />
<br />
That's pretty drop-kickin' awesome if you ask us. If you own <em>FIFA 11</em> on the Xbox or PS3, you can pick <em>Ultimate Team</em> up for free from the in-game menus right now.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/05/ea-announces-100-million-lifetime-sales-for-fifa-free-ultimate/">EA announces 100 million lifetime sales for FIFA, free Ultimate Team download</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 05 Nov 2010 07:00:00 EST. Electronic Arts has posted <a href="http://investor.ea.com/releasedetail.cfm?ReleaseID=526321">its financial report</a> for the second quarter (July-September) of its 2011 fiscal year, posting $631 million in revenue, a decline of $156 million compared to revenue recorded during the same period last year. However, the megapublisher managed to cut its net loss to $201 million -- almost half of last fiscal year's second quarter loss of $391 million.<br />
<br />
EA CEO John Riccitiello said of the company's recent performance, "We credit our results to blockbusters like <em>FIFA 11</em> and to innovative digital offerings like <em>The Sims 3 Ambitions</em> and <em>Madden NFL 11</em> on the iPad." Indeed, <em>FIFA 11</em> was a golden goose for the publisher -- it was the best-selling game in Europe during the quarter, pushing the life-to-date sales of the <em>FIFA</em> franchise past 100 million worldwide.<br />
<br />
The publisher also revealed its "cost reduction plan," which seeks to "restructure key licensing and developer agreements to improve the long-term profitability of its packaged goods portfolio." How much more obtuse can the plan get, huh?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/02/ea-cuts-quarterly-losses-despite-declining-revenue/">EA cuts quarterly losses, despite declining revenue</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 02 Nov 2010 18:02:00 EST. <em>Fable 3</em> took the throne last week in the UK as the top-selling title, moving 128,895 units and 6,000 more than <em>Fable 2</em> did during its launch week. <em>Fallout: New Vegas</em> sales, which held the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/25/fallout-new-vegas-explodes-on-uk-charts/">top spot the prior week</a>, dropped 55 percent, moving 69,613 copies to wastelanders.<em> FIFA 11</em> kicked it up and charged back into second place with 75,703 sales, while <em>Just Dance 2</em> kept its momentum and slid into fourth, moving and shaking 58,375 units.<br />
<br />
<em>Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2</em> premiered in fifth place. <em>FU2</em> unleashed 56,064 copies on the British public, with plenty of folks likely screaming that abbreviation after spending those hard-earned pounds on the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/26/star-wars-the-force-unleashed-2-review/">disposable game</a>. Meanwhile, the 7,386 owners of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/rock-band-3"><em>Rock Band 3</em></a>, which debuted way down at #26, likely rocked the weekend away. <br />
<br />
You may have noticed we have <em>actual unit sales</em> this week, that's thanks to <a href="http://www.ukie.info/content/week-43-top-10-games-round">UKIE</a> (formerly known as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/elspa">ELSPA</a>). No idea how long this'll last, but it's interesting given the NPD's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/20/new-npd-report-to-factor-in-digital-used-mobile-and-rental-sal/">recent reluctance to share such data</a> for the US. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/fallout-new-vegas"><em>Fallout: New Vegas</em></a> hit it big on the High Street strip, taking the top spot on the UK Charts and besting <em>Fallout 3</em>'s premiere week sales by 29 percent. Last week's top game, <em>Medal of Honor</em>, lost ground and dropped 48 percent in sales to second place, while <em>FIFA 11</em> also slipped one position to the third spot.<br />
<br />
Nintendo DS title <em>Professor Layton and the Lost Future</em> (<em>Unwound Future</em> across the pond) debuted in fourth place, with -- <em>no surprise!</em> -- <em>Just Dance 2</em> showing the stamina of its predecessor by rounding out the top 5. In case you're wondering, the original <em>Just Dance</em> doesn't look like it's coming back to the top ten this year, but it's still sitting comfortably in the teens at the 14 spot.<br />
<br />
Higher-profile premieres that didn't make the top ten include: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/vanquish"><em>Vanquish</em></a> at #12, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/ea-sports-mma"><em>EA Sports MMA</em></a> at #23 and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/dj-hero-2"><em>DJ Hero 2</em></a> at #25. Here's the latest communique from the UK: <em>Medal of Honor</em> managed to premiere in the top spot of the UK sales chart, ousting <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/fifa-11"><em>FIFA 11</em></a>, which had a 65 percent drop in sales and slipped to second. Although <a href="http://www.chart-track.co.uk/?i=959&amp;s=1111">Chart-Track</a> won't share raw intel on sales figures, it claims <em>MoH</em> had the fourth and fifth biggest premieres for 2010 on Xbox 360 and PS3, respectively.<br />
<br />
<em>Just Dance 2</em>, the sequel to the unbelievably stalwart chart topper, debuted in third place. The original <em>Just Dance</em> has been the best selling game on one format in the UK this year and, even with its sequel out, still managed to secure a spot at #12 last week. This is only the seventh time since hitting the Wii-exclusive dance floor that the title has been out of the top ten.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/Castlevania-Lords-of-Shadow/"><em>Castlevania: Lords of Shadow</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/enslaved-odyssey-to-the-west/"><em>Enslaved</em></a> both slipped four spots last week to tenth and eleventh, respectively. There's little hope that either of these <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/06/castlevania-lords-of-shadow-review/">quality</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/01/enslaved-review/">games</a> will hang around the top ten for more than a couple weeks, especially as the incoming competition keeps heating up. Check out the UK's top ten after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/18/medal-of-honor-claims-uk-sales-top-spot-just-dance-2-debuts-in/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Medal of Honor claims UK sales top spot; Just Dance 2 debuts in third</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/18/medal-of-honor-claims-uk-sales-top-spot-just-dance-2-debuts-in/">Medal of Honor claims UK sales top spot; Just Dance 2 debuts in third</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 18 Oct 2010 10:18:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/fifa-11"><em>FIFA 11</em></a> spent a second week atop the UK all formats chart this week, holding off <em>Pro Evolution Soccer 2011</em>'s premiere in second, despite a 63 percent drop in sales. <a href="http://www.chart-track.co.uk/?i=954&amp;s=1111">Chart-Track</a> states that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/04/fifa-11-has-third-largest-debut-on-uk-charts-rushes-top-spot/">FIFA 11's launch last week</a> was 10 times that of Konami's footie franchise and that this is the first time <em>Pro Evo</em> hasn't debuted in the top spot since the original game kicked off in 2001. <em>Dead Rising 2</em> shambles along, rounding out the top three.<br />
<br />
With competition so brutal during this time, it's good to see that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/Castlevania-Lords-of-Shadow/"><em>Castlevania: Lords of Shadow</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/enslaved-odyssey-to-the-west/"><em>Enslaved</em></a> debuted at the sixth and seventh spots, respectively. Hopefully both of these <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/06/castlevania-lords-of-shadow-review/">quality</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/01/enslaved-review/">games</a> can hang onto a spot in the top ten for more than a couple weeks. <br />
<br />
As much as we wish the best for those games, we're not expecting either title to be stamina-infused like <em>Just Dance</em>, which moved up three spots this week to ninth place, and has a sequel coming out next week. Place your bets now if <em>Just Dance 2</em> will glide across the UK charts to best <em>FIFA 11</em>. Check out the UK's top ten after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/12/fifa-fights-off-pro-evo-on-uk-charts-castlevania-enslaved-debu/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>FIFA fights off Pro Evo on UK charts; Castlevania, Enslaved debut in top 10</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/12/fifa-fights-off-pro-evo-on-uk-charts-castlevania-enslaved-debu/">FIFA fights off Pro Evo on UK charts; Castlevania, Enslaved debut in top 10</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 12 Oct 2010 00:00:00 EST. EA might have <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/27/nba-elite-11-delayed-nba-jam-coming-as-standalone-product-for-3/"><em>stopped the presses</em></a> of <em>NBA Elite 11</em> console discs, but the iPhone version is still on track for release this month, according to EA Mobile. The division announced its fall lineup today, with <em>FIFA 11</em> and <em>EA Sports MMA</em> rounding out the sports titles for iPhone (and iPod Touch) in October. Additionally, <em>Heroes Lore,</em> a popular mobile RPG in Korea (we're told), will be released this month in the App Store.<br />
<br />
An iPhone version of <em>Battlefield Bad Company 2,</em> "based on the best-selling <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/battlefield-bad-company-2">console game</a>," leads EA Mobile's November charge, which includes <em>High Caliber Hunting,</em> a Retina Display-enhanced critter capper, featuring a multitude of brand-name firearms and gear. For iPad? There's <em>SimCity Deluxe</em>.<br />
<br />
And for poor Android this fall? Just ... the <em>Game of Life</em>.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/07/nba-elite-11-still-coming-this-month-to-iphone/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>NBA Elite 11 still coming this month ... to iPhone</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/07/nba-elite-11-still-coming-this-month-to-iphone/">NBA Elite 11 still coming this month ... to iPhone</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 07 Oct 2010 01:00:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/07/ea-fifa-10-is-fastest-selling-sports-game-ever/">Besting <em>FIFA 10</em></a>'s achievement last year, <em>FIFA 11</em> has now become the "fastest selling sports game ever," <a href="http://investor.ea.com/releasedetail.cfm?ReleaseID=514374">according to EA</a>. The publisher's internal estimates project the latest entry in the footie franchise has sold 2.6 million copies across Europe and North America since last week's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/07/fifa-11-kicks-off-september-28-in-north-america-october-1-in-eu/">launch</a>.<br />
<br />
EA estimates that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/fifa-11"><em>FIFA 11</em></a> has grossed more than $150 million at retail so far, with "sell through" determined to be up 29 percent over last year's iteration. The publisher wouldn't break down regional numbers when we asked, but we did learn earlier this week from Chart-Track's UK retail charts that FIFA 11 had the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/04/fifa-11-has-third-largest-debut-on-uk-charts-rushes-top-spot/">third largest "combined format" debut</a> of any game ever.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/05/ea-fifa-11-beats-fifa-10-to-become-fastest-selling-sports-game/">EA: FIFA 11 beats FIFA 10 to become 'fastest selling sports game ever'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 05 Oct 2010 23:15:00 EST. Like a bowl of comforting chicken soup, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/fifa-11"><em>FIFA 11</em></a> premiered at the top of the <a href="http://www.chart-track.co.uk/index.jsp?c=p/software/uk/latest/index_test.jsp&amp;ct=110015">UK all formats chart</a>. According to <a href="http://www.chart-track.co.uk/?i=949&amp;s=1111">Chart-Track</a>, the game had the third-largest debut in UK chart history, unseating previous bronze holder <em>FIFA 10</em>'s first week by 21 percent in unit sales and 36 percent in revenue. Chart-Track also states that the top two premieres belong to <em>CoD: Modern Warfare 2</em> and <em>Grand Theft Auto IV</em>. <br />
<br />
We followed up with Chart-Track because this information <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/20/halo-reach-tops-uk-charts-sports-champions-takes-silver/">doesn't exactly jive with details it provided a couple weeks back</a>. At the time, <em>FIFA 10</em> wasn't even mentioned in the top three and <em>Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas</em> was in the third spot. Turns out there are two charts the company is tracking, one that's "individual formats" and the other is "combined formats." We've placed both after the break for clarification.<br />
<br />
Surprise winner <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/27/f1-2010-races-past-reach-dead-rising-2-and-civilization-5-on-uk/">last week</a>, <em>F1 2010,</em> lost its pole position and slipped into second. <em>Dead Rising 2</em> maintained its third place with the help of a chainsaw paddle, while <em>Halo: Reach</em> began its slow fall down the charts, slipping two spots to fourth. Moving up a spot and rounding out the top five is <em>Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock</em>, showing the rhythm genre has life in the UK beyond <em>Just Dance</em> (#12). Check out the UK's top ten after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/04/fifa-11-has-third-largest-debut-on-uk-charts-rushes-top-spot/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>FIFA 11 has third largest debut on UK charts, rushes top spot</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/04/fifa-11-has-third-largest-debut-on-uk-charts-rushes-top-spot/">FIFA 11 has third largest debut on UK charts, rushes top spot</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 04 Oct 2010 17:35:00 EST. While we prefer a powerful, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/vanquish"><em>Vanquish</em></a>-esque sliding shot to the shins in our defensive approach, this <em>FIFA 11</em> tutorial video suggests there are more complex defensive tactics to the game of soccer. Maybe so -- but we're still wearing this red card as a badge of honor!<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/14/therere-more-to-fifa-11-defense-than-slide-tackling/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>There're more to FIFA 11 defense than slide tackling</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/14/therere-more-to-fifa-11-defense-than-slide-tackling/">There're more to FIFA 11 defense than slide tackling</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 14 Sep 2010 01:15:00 EST. Guess what it's about! No, it's not about learning how to cultivate a hive, that's "Goal: a Beekeeper." This is about controlling the goalie in soccer games. Be a Goalkeeper allows you to control the goalie using three levels of AI assistance (ranging from "none" to "some," basically).<br />
<br />
Now that players can take control of that position, the possibility of full, 11 vs. 11 online play is opened up, a functionality that EA touts in the stylish trailer after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/18/fifa-11-features-11-vs-11-online-play-thanks-to-be-a-goalkeepe/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>FIFA 11 features 11 vs. 11 online play thanks to 'Be a Goalkeeper'</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/18/fifa-11-features-11-vs-11-online-play-thanks-to-be-a-goalkeepe/">FIFA 11 features 11 vs. 11 online play thanks to 'Be a Goalkeeper'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 18 Aug 2010 01:00:00 EST. Those planning on signing up for the Wii version of EA's <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/fifa-11">FIFA 11</a> </em>will find an exclusive game mode in the package: street soccer. It takes players to the streets of major cities around the world for less official games of footy, in places like Brazil, France and London. The mode will allow players to "use the wall to jump past defenders or bank passes to teammates" and select from a set of different match types, like First to Score, Tug of War and Timed games.<br />
<br />
Not only that, but there will be a host of modifiers to choose from -- things like elevated nets, wall goals and even shrunken nets -- to mix things up further. Players can also select a specific arcade mode within street soccer, which adds a power meter that can be used to "blast shots, ignite a speed burst or send shockwaves over your opponents." It kinda sounds a lot like <em>FIFA Jam</em>, to be honest. <br />

<em>FIFA 11 </em>launches on the Nintendo Wii, Xbox 360, PS3 and PC on October 4. Feel free to breakaway into our gallery below for some new screens, fresh off the bench.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fifa-11-wii/">FIFA 11 (Wii)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fifa-11-wii/#3211229"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/07/fifa11drogbashootwm_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fifa-11-wii/#3211231"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/07/fifa11essiendriblemw_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fifa-11-wii/#3211232"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/07/fifa11iniestaindoormv_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fifa-11-wii/#3211234"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/07/fifa11vanpersieattackmw_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/28/fifa-11-for-wii-to-include-street-soccer-mode/">FIFA 11 for Wii to include street soccer mode</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 28 Jul 2010 02:00:00 EST. <em>FIFA 11</em> will storm the North American retail pitch on September 28 for every major platform except the Wii, whose version will be called in on October 4. Additionally, Europe and Asia will don their shin pads for every platform on October 1.<br />
<br />
The latest edition of the footie franchise adds the "<a href="http://www.easportsfootball.com">Creation Centre</a>" on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, allowing players to "craft your own football player and create the team of your dreams using a web-based application." The application will launch on the same day as the game.<br />
<br />
As previously revealed, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/fifa-11"><em>FIFA 11</em></a> will also feature the so-called "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/24/fifa-11-personality-is-not-quite-what-we-were-thinking/">Personality+</a>" system and "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/22/fifa-11-to-add-custom-audio-feature/">custom audio</a>," enabling fans to assign custom sound clips (e.g., team chants saved on the hard drive) to play during "player introductions, halftime and after goals" -- no word yet on an "always" setting to enable the authentic, ever-present droning of the vuvuzela.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/07/fifa-11-kicks-off-september-28-in-north-america-october-1-in-eu/">FIFA 11 kicks off September 28 in North America, October 1 in Europe and Asia</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 07 Jul 2010 14:20:00 EST. The new "Personality+" feature in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/fifa-soccer-11"><em>FIFA 11</em></a> isn't exactly what our minds conjured for a feature with that name -- charismatic footballers cheerily encouraging each other, helping up fallen opponents and maintaining a modest dance routine after scoring a goal.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/24/fifa-11-personality-is-not-quite-what-we-were-thinking/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>FIFA 11 'Personality+' is not quite what we were thinking</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/24/fifa-11-personality-is-not-quite-what-we-were-thinking/">FIFA 11 'Personality+' is not quite what we were thinking</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 24 Jun 2010 14:30:00 EST. During E3,<span style="font-style: italic;"> </span><em>FIFA 11 </em>producer David Rutter briefly demonstrated the game's new "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/10/fifa-soccer-11-hits-the-pitch-this-fall-with-personality/">Personality+</a>" framework, which aims to better recreate each player's real-life abilities and personality in the game. Using an early build of the game, Rutter showed how Arsenal defender Sol Cambell has been reduced to a lumbering dribbler -- at least compared to teammate Andrey Arshavin, a nimble-footed midfielder. By contrast, Cambell's tackle zone had been made far more expansive than Arshavin's. Aside from these obvious skill tweaks, it remains to be seen how much individual "personality"<em> </em> will factor into the gameplay.<br />
<br />
Actually, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/FIFA-Soccer-11/"><em>FIFA 11</em></a></em> will allow players to add a bit of their own <em>personal touch</em> to the overall presentation. Rutter confirmed that the game will support custom audio settings, allowing players to upload sound clips -- chants, music tracks, <em>90,000 resounding vuvuzelas</em> -- into the game and set them to play in accordance with various events in the match.<br />

<div style="text-align: left;">With the 2010 FIFA World Cup (<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/fifa-world-cup-2010-south-africa"><em>the video game</em></a>) now a thing of the past, EA has <a href="http://investor.ea.com/releasedetail.cfm?ReleaseID=477941">announced</a> the next iteration in its long-standing soccer series: <em>FIFA Soccer 11</em>. The next <em>FIFA</em> will introduce "Personality+," a feature designed to highlight individual abilities and create a unique identity for each player in the game.</div>
<br />
The feature relies on a <em>deep</em> database, which houses grades for each player across 36 attributes and 57 traits. Developer EA Canada will also employ new <a href="http://www.vanityfair.com/culture/features/2010/06/world-cup-video-201006">models and body types</a>, as well as a new passing system, dubbed "Pro Passing."<br />
<br />
<em>FIFA 11</em> will ship this fall for the PC, Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, DS, PSP, PS2, Gizmondo, Virtual Boy, ColecoVision and mobile platforms ... Did we miss any?<br />

It's the perfect Saturday. You're rocking your team's jersey as you settle onto the couch, a Shasta in one hand, bag of Fritos in the other, preparing to hit the pitch in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/fifa-10"><em>FIFA 10</em></a>. You head online, get yourself into a match and suddenly you're up one-nil. And then, just as suddenly, your opponent quits. You go bananas, hurling your controller into the TV. Then your wife comes in and says she's had enough and takes the kids to her mother's. A month later, you're divorced.<br />
<br />
It's a story we hear way too often here at Joystiq. Thankfully, EA is working on a way to punish these quitters -- outside of rectifying the fact that <em>they've wrecked your life forever</em> -- in the next series iteration, <em>FIFA 11</em>. EA Canada's Simon Humber told <a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/ea-to-tackle-online-quitters-in-fifa-11">Eurogamer</a> these "rage quitters" are a "complex problem." See, there's a <em>loophole</em> in the game that allows players to quit within five minutes of starting a <em>FIFA 10</em> match online, in case there's a connection issue -- but EA is looking for ways to keep players from exploiting that feature.<br />
<br />
Humber says that EA is thinking about adding functionality to <em>FIFA 11 </em>that would reward players for finishing matches, rather than try to punish those that quit. As for the upcoming <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/27/ea-sports-fifa-world-cup-2010-south-africa-announced/"><em>FIFA World Cup 2010 South Africa</em></a>, don't expect any changes: "We haven't done anything different for this game as far as I know," Humber said.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/10/fifa-11-to-tackle-online-quitters-by-rewarding-players/">FIFA 11 to tackle online quitters by rewarding players that finish games</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 10 Feb 2010 17:20:00 EST. EA <em>did</em> say that game would be out before March 2011! The summer release is listed for consoles, PC <em>and handhelds</em>.<br />

Also due out in the quarter: the expected spate of annual sports franchises (<em>Madden, FIFA, FIFA Online, NHL</em>), a <em>Monopoly</em> game for consoles and handhelds, and a new <em>MySims</em> title -- we're guessing <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/01/ea-trademarks-mysims-sky-heroes/"><em>MySims Sky Heroes</em></a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/08/medal-of-honor-apb-dated-for-summer-2010/">Medal of Honor, APB dated for Summer 2010</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 08 Feb 2010 17:20:00 EST.
