The PlayStation Vita just got moderately more useful. A suite of apps is available today on the PlayStation Store including Flickr, Netflix, and "LiveTweet." That's the name of the Twitter app. No, we don't know why.

If you're a new Vita owner, you can get them all right now through the PlayStation Store. If you're a prospective Vita owner just waiting to see how the Netflix app shook out, you can see for yourself in this walkthrough from Engadget.

As seen in the gallery below, they're a melange of concept art and apparent in-engine screens, highlighted by screaming, murderous Chimera and a destroyed St. Louis.

Also seen are Resistance 2's Joseph Capelli and who who we believe to be Nathan Hale's sorta-sister Susan Farley (her screens are labeled "Susan," among other things), both of which will seemingly play key roles in the forthcoming game. Insomniac offered "No comment" and Sony hadn't gotten back to us on the authenticity of these images by the time of publishing.

Savage Land Pictures have revealed a gorgeous photo set inspired by the 2008 Electronic Arts action title, Mirror's Edge. The shoot, which Savage Land Pictures notes took months to plan, includes sixteen images of a model dressed as Faith traversing rooftops and interacting with armor-clad enemies. The set isn't completely realistic however, as "Faith" is shown holding a pistol and the image doesn't completely break... like the game did when she picked up a weapon. Just kidding, kinda.

The pickin's have been mighty slim regarding details and sneak peeks for Sony and Zipper Interactive's upcoming 256-man shooter, MAG: Massive Action Game (the only official screenshot we've seen thus far is posted above), so we thought we'd bring your attention to some screenshots that would normally fall below our threshold of dubiousness. Flickr user 1337guyzorz recently posted 28 supposed images involving the title, including a number of in-game screencaps and a few character models.

The images are fairly attractive, though they may leave the viewer with a number of unanswered questions. Namely, where did they come from? Are they leaked from a Sony FTP server? An exclusive from some gaming journalism outlet? Summoned by some sort of ominous pact with a screenshot demon? More importantly, are they even real? They certainly seem massive, and the pictures contain elements of action, and, well, it looks like a game. The shoe seems to fit -- but where did the shoe come from? We may never know.

Flickr user emilyskeith has uploaded a set of images that show off an amazing fan-made Portal Gun (or Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device) that her boyfriend made to go along with an Aperture Science test subject cosplay outfit she is developing. Featuring blue and orange LEDs, the classic three prong design and even a splash of blood to showoff a nasty turret bullet graze, this is one of the coolest things we've ever seen. And now we feel like playing Portal again! Thanks, Emily ... we're trying to work here!

It might not say a thousand words, but this picture says enough to bring into question statements by LittleBigPlanet community manager Sam_Protagonist, who claimed the development team had "no plans to introduce" image importing into the game. Clearly, this "work in progress" (as it's called), which appeared in Media Molecules Flickr stream yesterday, shows that the team is developing an "Image Import Tool" that pulls images from the PlayStation 3 hard drive and sticks 'em to players' creations. Indeed, in his denial, Sam_Protagonist did admit that importing is "very much technically viable."

Still, as Sam implied, there are obvious copyright and balls-on-the-walls issues that complicate the introduction of an image-importing tool. Until those are resolved, consider this update for internal use only.

Last night we attended the first PAX 2008 concert, featuring The OneUps, Freezepop, and Jonathan Coulton headlining. There are a multitude of great moments (highlight reel to come later this weekend), but one thing that stuck out was Coulton's performance of "Flickr" and special song "Not This One," both songs featuring video accompaniment aided by sound guy Bart Brad. There it was. A quiet, thoughtful moment, right in the midst of our rat-a-tat assault. There's not much room for unnecessary thought during a drive-by shooting -- aim and pull the trigger, aim and pull the trigger -- but this one provided an odd moment of stillness and clarity. As time slowed to a crawl and a prostitute's unlucky encounter with our front bumper became a slow-motion aerial ballet, we saw the world. Peering out the window at our decaying urban surroundings, we could think of only one question. "What would this be like ... in a game?"

Grand Theft Auto IV attempts to answer that question, reshaping New York City into the architecturally approximate, but satirically scathing Liberty City. Flickr user (and blogger) Matthew Johnston has created a photo set that compares the Big Apple to its rotten, in-game core, with various real and virtual landmarks placed side by side. Every Thursday, we battle with many of you during the greatness that is Game Night. Most of the time, these festivities involve plenty of Tetris. Even though the game is almost two years old, its appeal never seems to fade.

We never thought anything could add to the allure of Tetris, but that all changed when we saw it in waffle form. What can be better than playing Tetris? Obviously, eating it. The blocked texture of the waffles makes waffle Tetris perfect, and we just love playing with our food.

The best part? Once you successfully make rows, you have to eat them to make them disappear. Yum!

There you have it then. Sony have updated their PlayStation.Blog flickr account with images of the new PSP Slim Lite Tiny (our name, not theirs) boxart. Check out the flickr to see the box for Star Wars Battlefront, Daxter and the vanilla box which, presumably, will be similar for each colour. Though we're assuming the white version will only be available in the Star Wars box, with the Darth Vader silkscreen.

You may notice from the image above that we were wrong earlier when we said there would be a bundle containing only the Family Guy UMD. It appears that it will be included in the Daxter box. As for the Star Wars box, there is no memory card, just the game and PSP. The vanilla box contains just the PSP itself. We're hoping the $199 price is only for the Daxter box, with the other two costing slightly less. We'll let you know when we find out. Did we mention that they'll be released simultaneously worldwide? No? Well, we just did.

You find the damnedest things cruising Flickr. Today we found this picture taken from Rainbow Six Vegas created by frasermoo. Yes, that is the face of an infant. The face of an infant mounted onto a lethal terrorist killing machine to be specific. While we can't argue the hilarity of such a juxtaposition, we do have to question the logistics of such an endeavor. What had to be done to keep this child still enough to capture his face this accurately? What nefarious harnesses were put to use for the sole sake of creating a humorous avatar? Hopefully, this baby has a penchant for sitting perfectly still and looking cute all the time.

Any Vegas players spot any other freaky avatars out there?

Bunnies probably don't like to be eaten, but that didn't stop Flickr user protozoider from making these Rayman Raving Rabbids cupcakes. Some of them look like they're going to eat you! The set includes instructions on making your very own (somewhat creepy) rabbid cupcakes, and features pictures of the best efforts, and some of the not-so-successful. The secret? Bunny-themed cake pans for Easter cakes. Creative, we must admit ....

As you may well know, we're a hungry bunch here at Wii Fanboy, looking for any and all ways to incorporate eating into our gaming lives (it saves time). With the advent of the Wii, we've found that no longer must we wait until an opportunity to pause before biting hard into our sandwich, as now we have a free hand to hold said sandwich while we game. It's truly a wonderful age we live in now.

Anywho, as you can see above, the pictured Wiimote and nunchuk attachment have been scultped lovingly by flickr user Balakov using nothing but discarded packaging and some spare chocolate. Move over Xbox360, we got ourselves a more delicious means for controlling our games now!

Sometimes the best Photoshop work is the simplest and most subtle. Flickr user Agent G has "scoured the earth" and unearthed agility orbs at world's greatest architecture. (There's two at Easter Island waiting for you.) Also revealed were Secret Orbs that developer Realtime Worlds have placed in the most inconspicuous of locations, from Viva Pinata all the way to old episodes of Knight Rider.

If Halo 3 was not advertising enough for this game, perhaps Microsoft Games Studio might think of a clever television marketing campaign based on this Flickr gallery.

We have to admit, we've seen a lot of people playing Wii. Young, old and family relatives all the same; people playing Wii is so engraved in our minds that we see it every time we close our eyes. Now, we have an image (right) that will destroy all the others.

Don't misunderstand us, we dare not poke fun at a fellow gamer, no matter what they're wearing or how old they are, but this lady needs to be the spokesperson for Wii 'grey gaming' forever. We love the big smile on her face (a testament to what we're calling the fun power of the Wii) and she's obviously dressed for a serious session of gaming (the suit is for less wind resistance). That's commitment you can't beat!

Flickr has been infected with all sorts of shots of the Wii in action, and WiiNintendo gathered several of the best to show off the new console. Several of these look like they might be from family gatherings ... and we can't wait to pack up our Wii for the holiday family tour coming up this weekend. We may even have to share some on Flickr, since it seems that Wii action shots are the new cat pics. Hmm. Maybe we should encourage the cats to play with the Wiimotes. Cutting edge, here we come!

Nintendo should just gobble up the rights for the above image, slap some branding across the bottom, and run a nationwide ad campaign. Flickr user Michael T. Gilbert performed a Thanksgiving test on his father whose flannel shirt, Dickies, stoic face, leathered skin and spartan bedroom all evoke decades of hard work while his exceptional bowling form communicates something entirely different.

The rest of Flickr's Wii Motion pool is full of photos (408 currently) of people, young and old, all captured mid-Wii, their flailing arms and exaggerated stretch preserved in digital amber for all time.

We were very impressed by Flickr member kriseattle22's design for his gaming cabinet. Besides the finely crafted woodworking involved, the cabinet also featured hooks on each side for controller storage as well as two blue-lighted CPU fans for each console. The Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii have all been elevated so that heat can be exhausted below, as well.

Let's use this as a template for the ultimate gamer's cabinet and improve upon the design. Some improvements, both serious and farcical, we'd like to see:
  • An upright Wii console. No offense to those who prefer the Wii lying flat, but the console's beauty comes from its vertical position.
  • We're also wagering that the elevated platform and fans are a little extreme for the light-on-high-tech Wii console.
  • Can we adjust the fans (and lighting) to be console specific? For example, have only the two adjacent fans on when the Xbox 360 is in use. And make them light up green.
  • Side- or top-mounted AA battery recharger units would rock.
  • Speaking of the Xbox 360, why not have a mini-fridge to house the power brick?*
  • The controller hooks are a nice touch, but the convenience of sitting down and turning on a console wirelessly is lost. How about a custom-built coffee table to complement the cabinet?
  • That NES up top looks mighty lonely ...
  • That bunny adjacent to the stand? Lose it -- Nabaztags are the way to go.
Every cabinet, obviously, should be tailored-made to the specific gamer and his or her respective consoles and console needs. If you were building yourself a console cabinet (or having one built for you), what would like to see on it?

Reader James sent us a link to his flickr account, which now showcases the sad tale of a DS Phat that has been the result of rampant games of Zoo Keeper every day, for 7 months, by his girlfriend. He makes no mention of how she generally treats his DS, but by the looks of the pictures, we'd have to say she's not all that delicate a touch.

It's beyond time he upgraded to a DS Lite anyway, so maybe she unintentionally did him a favor?

In a move that would cause many to question his sanity, flickr user DannoHung is now without DS Lite. What could drive a man to such rage and destruction? Apparently, Elite Beat Agents will do the trick. Honestly, this man needs a straight jacket and 4 padded walls right about now.

Citing his frustrations with the game as the camel that broke the straw's back (wait, that doesn't sound right, does it?), he destroyed both game and handheld console in a fit of rage and declares that he now hates Nintendo. Let us tell you something buster, Nintendo didn't make you suck at the game and hate beautiful, stylish electronics. No, clearly some horrible upbringing where the lesson of loving perfect gaming platforms and quirky, rhythm-based games is the cause for all of this. We blame the parents (and those Grand Theft Auto games) ...

Brymo wrote in to explain the suspicious appearance of Gears of War in his stack of Xbox 360 games. It looks like it was an innocent misunderstanding and not an attempt to defraud the nerd public:

Here is the story. I bought the BestBuy pre-order thing - for the shirt. I go home to make sure the shirt is my size, so as I took the shirt out, and laid my Dead Rising game and the gears box on top of my stash, just habit.

A friend came over, and went through my games to find something to play - thus the game went towards the bottom.

I posted this picture in my thread at TeamXbox.

Showing my "addiction" of buying video games. I forgot about the Gears box even being in the middle of the mix. This of course turned huge when I got PM's, comments about how did I get the game already.

I stated I believe 2-3 times in that thread that it was truly the pre-order box that comes with the shirt. I guess no one read or wanted to believe that.

Obviously, Brymo didn't steal anything from GameStop. And we're sorry Richard called you a schmo. I think the universal lust for early copies of Gears of War has everybody on edge right now.

Dutiful 360 Fanboy reader, AlexH, spotted a suspicious photo on Flickr. Uploaded by user, Brymo, the picture claims to show off his 360 game collection. No big deal there. Lots of people host pictures of their hobbies, collections, etc. There is one little issue, though. Almost halfway up the stack is a copy of Gears of War. You know, the blockbuster game that's not supposed to emerge until November 7th at the earliest. So, we have three possibilities. One, he actually has a pre-release copy of GOW. Two, he's joking. Three, he likes to steal display boxes from GameStop. In the words of Judge Judy, don't piss on our leg and tell us it's raining. 'Fess up, Brymo, if that is your real name.

Avid flickr user and mountain climber extraordinaire Rappateng recently had a buddy of his take some snapshots during their latest mountain-tackling adventure. A few of the snapshots are of great interest as Rappateng reports he took several breathers to throw down in some Mario Kart DS mid-climb.

We can't condone such an activity as it presents several clear dangers. These include:
  • Dropping the DS Lite to its doom
  • Banging the DS Lite against a rock while trying to snake
  • No Wi-Fi connection in nature
  • Jealous friend could very well kill you with a rock, take your DS Lite, and leave you to rot under a pile of Poison Ivy
We assume Rappateng's next adventure will include climbing some icy mountain in a foreign country, all in an attempt to make the most badass Christmas card ever.

The 360 looks unharmed, thankfully. I have to say I empathize with the dog, though. If I was forced to stare at a 360 for hours, knowing full well that I didn't have thumbs and would never be able to play it, I'd go crazy, too. Hit the read link for a picture of the culprit.

One part of the popular DS game Brain Age is the drawing mini-game where players are required to draw a picture of, to name a few examples, Mona Lisa, Henry VIII or a bulldozer entirely from memory.
