Step by step, day by day, the world's researchers and engineers bring us ever closer to the reality of Kinect-enabled telekinesis. Even though the concept of the game seems to be about escaping <em>from</em> Plastic Beach. Players control psychotic bassist Murdoc, who flies above Plastic Beach on a "Doom Glider," shooting ghost pirate ships and, for some reason, keeping lead singer 2D from getting away. <br />

The Unity-powered game was released simultaneously on iPhone and iPad today, with each version available for $1.99. In addition, it can be purchased as a Unity-powered <a href="http://gorillaz.com/g-player/games/escape-to-plastic-beach-chapter-3">browser game</a>. Check out some screens of this fairly improbable game in our gallery!<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gorillaz-escape-to-plastic-beach-iphone-ipad/">Gorillaz: Escape to Plastic Beach (iPhone/iPad)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gorillaz-escape-to-plastic-beach-iphone-ipad/#3206348"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/07/gorillaz7261_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gorillaz-escape-to-plastic-beach-iphone-ipad/#3206349"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/07/gorillaz7262_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gorillaz-escape-to-plastic-beach-iphone-ipad/#3206350"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/07/gorillaz7263_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />

If you're itching to try your hand at NCSoft's upcoming winged MMORPG, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/aion"><em>Aion</em></a>, before its September 22 release, <a href="http://www.aionsource.com/forum/news-announcements/40608-dates-announced-aions-open-beta-pre-select-headstart-programs.html">a recent press release</a> has announced two methods of doing so. The first is probably the more noteworthy option -- the game is going into open beta for one week only starting Sunday, September 6. The sneak preview will allow players from both of the game's factions to reach level 30, and lets them fly, fight and fly-fight through every locale from the full game.<br /><br />The second opportunity to beat the release day rush is by pre-ordering the game -- those who pursue this option can pre-select their servers and character names on September 18, then start playing a full 48 hours in advance on September 20. Is the five-dollars-down worth the exclusive pre-launch access? Sadly, we can't make that decision for you. We can, however, tell you what to have for lunch: <a href="http://ddppchicago.files.wordpress.com/2009/01/nachos-main_full.jpg"><em>Nachos</em></a>. You're welcome.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/27/ncsoft-announces-aion-open-beta-dates-pre-orders-get-early-acce/">NCSoft announces Aion open beta dates, pre-orders get early access</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 27 Aug 2009 18:00:00 EST. If you have a comprehensive knowledge of Japanese literature or flight combat games that never saw an American release, you probably already know about <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/sky-crawlers"><em>The Sky Crawlers</em></a>. We fell in love with Namco-Bandai's book-to-game adaptation when we were teased with <a href="http://nintendo.joystiq.com/2008/10/17/drama-at-20-000-feet-with-the-sky-crawlers/">tons of gameplay footage</a> last year -- sadly, the game was never visited by the localization fairy, and never made it to the States. Since then, we've been <em>sad all over</em>.<br /><br />Fortunately, a recent XSEED press release has turned our melancholy into melan-jolly (ugh) -- the capitalized company has purchased the North American publishing rights for <em>The Sky Crawlers: Innocent Aces</em>, due out this holiday season on the Wii. The game, which was developed by <em>Ace Combat </em>veterans <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/project-aces">Project Aces</a>, will have players using the Wiimote and Nunchuck to simulate actual flight controls. It's a bit overdue, but we're thrilled about the Americanization of this aeronautical gem nonetheless.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sky-crawlers-innocent-aces/">Sky Crawlers: Innocent Aces</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sky-crawlers-innocent-aces/#2127156"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/07/2009-06-19_17-03-00_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sky-crawlers-innocent-aces/#2127155"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/07/2009-06-19_16-58-00-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sky-crawlers-innocent-aces/#2127154"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/07/2009-06-19_17-21-00_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sky-crawlers-innocent-aces/#2127153"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/07/2009-06-19_17-22-00_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sky-crawlers-innocent-aces/#2127152"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/07/2009-06-19_17-03-00-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/05/xseed-bringing-the-sky-crawlers-to-north-american-wiis/">XSEED bringing The Sky Crawlers to North American Wiis</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 05 Jul 2009 20:30:00 EST. With <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/14/factor-5-shuts-down-us-operations/">Factor 5 closing its doors in the US</a>, it's uncertain whether the games that were in development there will be moved to its German studio, or if the titles will be scrapped entirely. Courtesy of <a href="http://www.unseen64.net/2009/05/14/f5s-flight-project-wii-prototype/">Unseen64</a>, we have some concept art from a flight game the company was working on for Wii. <br /><br />Supposedly, these are images created using the Wii version of Factor 5's Lair Engine, though that is unconfirmed. Based on the images, however, we can glean that the game would have had players visiting several different parts of the world, as there's a few images striking an amazing resemblance to <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Ben">Big Ben</a>. <br /><br />We've put in word to Factor 5 for comment, but we're hoping the employees have already set sail toward a brighter future, much like the <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KX61PUZ3xkI">Crimson Permanent Assurance</a>. Sadly, real life isn't as fun ...<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/factor-5-wii-flight-game-prototype/">Factor 5 Wii 'flight game' prototype</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/factor-5-wii-flight-game-prototype/#2016551"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/05/prototypefactor5wii_23_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/factor-5-wii-flight-game-prototype/#2016550"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/05/prototypefactor5wii_22_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/factor-5-wii-flight-game-prototype/#2016549"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/05/prototypefactor5wii_21_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/factor-5-wii-flight-game-prototype/#2016548"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/05/prototypefactor5wii_14_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/factor-5-wii-flight-game-prototype/#2016547"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/05/prototypefactor5wii_13_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/15/leaked-images-from-factor-5s-wii-flight-game/">Leaked images from Factor 5's Wii 'flight' game</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 15 May 2009 14:30:00 EST. Listen, as the writer of Joystiq's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/iphone-it-in">only iPhone-related column</a>, I do my fair share of playing licensed garbage. For example, I played a <em>Land of the Lost</em>-themed game that makes "Punch the Monkey" look like <em>The Orange Box.</em> I'm not even going to link to it, for fear that you'll play it. Seriously, it was the game equivalent of watching my immediate family die in a house fire.<br /><br />You can imagine my confusion then when I say that <em>Top Gun</em> is <em>shockingly </em>good. It's been <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/10/hawx-takes-to-the-skies/">rumored for a while now</a>, but <em>Tom Clancy's HAWX</em> still appears to be circling the Wii. See, there's this listing for the game over at Ubisoft's official site, complete with a March 2009 release date. But, before you start jumping up and down with joy and spill coffee all over your computer, know that there are a couple things making us uneasy about all of this.<br /><br />First of all, there isn't much on the listing -- box art, a release window, some key features, and a link to the game's official site. Secondly, those features listed look identical to the PS3/360 versions of the game. Drop-in and drop-out gameplay doesn't really sound like a Wii game, seeing as how we've not really heard of any game incorporating that feature (unless you want to count <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/17/wii-fanboy-review-animal-crossing-city-folk/"><em>Animal Crossing: City Folk</em></a> ). Finally, there's no mention of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/wiimote">Wiimote</a>. Usually, when a publisher is putting a game on the Wii (especially in the case of multiplatform games), it tends to boast about the Wiimote's power and how it affects the game. Nothing like that here.<br /><br />But, you know, if it turns out to be true, then consider us <em>pumped</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/05/rumor-ubisofts-hawx-flies-over-to-wii/">Rumor: Ubisoft's HAWX flies over to Wii</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 05 Feb 2009 14:00:00 EST. <br />Here's the debut trailer for <span style="font-style: italic;">Snoopy WWI Flying Ace</span>, which appears to be a cross between <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/17/drama-at-20-000-feet-with-the-sky-crawlers/">a flight game</a> and an on-foot action-platformer. Sure, the visuals lack the simple charm of Charles Schulz's original Peanuts strip, but this is no technical slouch: courtesy of an insider source, Go Nintendo's RMC reports that the Wii version features 480p visuals, 16:9 widescreen mode, and runs at 60 frames per second. There will be "important design differences" between this and the Xbox 360 versions, both of which release in early 2009.<br /><br />Also, the trailer informs us that Snoopy is "popular with the mademoiselles" -- <span style="font-style: italic;">human</span> ones. This revelation filled us with dread, because it reminded us of <a href="http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=JgNzGlEenAw">this</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/06/snoopy-swoops-to-wii/">Snoopy swoops to Wii</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 06 Nov 2008 17:00:00 EST. If you had a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/27/virtually-overlooked-dragon-power/">dragon</a>, what would you do? The most amazing creature in existence in under your control, so you'll surely embark on epic adventures across the world, right? You wouldn't make it ... fly through rings, would you?<br /><br />Apparently, that's the extent of Codemasters' creative efforts thus far on the upcoming <em>Dragonology</em> for the Wii. Based on the <a href="http://www.ologyworld.com/">popular books</a> chronicling and categorizing everything to do with the mystical world of dragons, <em>Dragonology</em> will let you create a character, hit the skies and undertake many ring-flying, egg-collecting and photo-taking adventures.<br /><br />The above screen requests the player to fly through a set of rings "more challenging than the first," which implies more than one ring-flying course. Which is more than one too many. You can check out more screens from a promising IP <a href="http://www.worthplaying.com/sections.php?op=viewarticle&amp;artid=2376">here</a>, but the end results is looking a bit flat already. It's just that .. ring games are <a href="http://www.gametrailers.com/player/35929.html">usually lousy</a>, sometimes <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/12/nights-journey-of-a-cheap-game/">average</a>. If the time is just crawling for you until <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/18/ace-combat-team-making-wii-flight-sim/"><em>Sky Crawlers</em></a> comes out, at least there's now an <a href="http://sky-crawlers.namco-ch.net/">official website</a> for the game to keep you busy. The site is in Japanese, but it's not too hard to click on buttons and hope for the best. <br /><br />There's not much to see at the moment, though, except for the snazzy screens we've conveniently added to the gallery below. So, those of you who are afraid of the cold, harsh arms of the internet don't even have to leave the safety of Nintendo Wii Fanboy for now. <br /><br />Reminder: Make sure to click on the "Hi Res" button when viewing the photos, or else you're just a fool.<br /><br /><br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=259721&amp;page=3">NeoGAF</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/24/sky-crawlers-gets-more-screens-and-a-website/">Sky Crawlers gets more screens and a website</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 24 Mar 2008 22:35:00 EST. We have one word to describe <a style="font-style: italic;" href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/18/ace-combat-team-making-wii-flight-sim/">Sky Crawlers</a>: <span style="font-style: italic;">Gorgeous</span>. Yes, looks aren't everything, but we're too busy mopping up our own drool to care about such technicalities. Also, since the game is being made by the same people behind <span style="font-style: italic;">Ace Combat,</span> we're going to bet that the gameplay in this will be just fine. At the very least, the controls sound solid. Simply enough, you move your plane around with the Nunchuck, and then point and shoot with the Wiimote. <br /><br />The best shots of the game are in our gallery (below), but some more Famitsu screens are posted after the break. So, click away if you're looking for some nice Wii eye-candy.<br /><br /><strong>*Note:</strong> The pictures look best when viewed in their full resolution, so make sure to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sky-crawlers/713484/full/">click here</a> to see them in their glory. If you prefer, you can also click on the "Hi Res" button in the gallery.<br /><br />
<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/21/sky-crawlers-screens-soar-past-our-expectations/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Sky Crawlers screens soar past our expectations</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/21/sky-crawlers-screens-soar-past-our-expectations/">Sky Crawlers screens soar past our expectations</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 21 Mar 2008 20:00:00 EST. <br />Remove <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/28/petit-copter-flying-over-the-pacific/"><em>Petit Copter</em></a> from the equation, and pickings are <em>awfully slim</em> when it comes to <a href="http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/wii/ww2aces">Wii</a> <a href="http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/wii/blazingangelssquadronsofww2">flight</a> <a href="http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/wii/heatseeker">sims</a>. So what's a budding <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biggles">Biggles</a> to do? Pray for a Wii update to the absolutely flawless* <em>Pilotwings 64</em>? Well, that's <em>one option</em> (and something we do on a daily basis anyway), but Bandai Namco is hoping to provide another in the form of <em>Sky Crawlers</em>, a flight game based on an animated <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1056437/">film</a> that's to be released on August 2nd in Japan.<br /><br />The latest edition of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/famitsu"><em>Famitsu</em></a> has the first shots of the title, in which the Wiimote doubles up as your throttle, and the nunchuk is used to steer. Even though the film is based on a fantastical premise -- youngsters fighting a war organized by adults as a form of entertainment -- the game features realistic visuals.<br /><br />In summary, we're keen to see more of this, <em>particularly</em> as it's developed by the same team behind the <em>Ace Combat</em> series. With any luck, we'll be able to banish the craptacular likes of <a href="http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/wii/wingisland?q=wing%20island"><em>Wing Island</em></a> from our memories forever.<br /><br />* Seriously, don't argue with me here. I'm not saying it's an <em>easy</em> game (far from it) or that there isn't enough to do. <em>Spitfire Heroes</em> is simple in the way that arcade games are: the controls are intuitive and easy to pick up quickly, and the objectives are clear. Despite its appearance as a flight sim (one of the most complex genres of all), <em>Spitfire Heroes </em>is an action game through and through, more <em>After Burner</em> than <em>Microsoft Flight Simulator.<br /></em><br />Unfortunately, some fairly major issues prevent <em>Spitfire Heroes</em> from an unqualified recommendation. Right up front: the game is too hard, which may prevent you from seeing the majority of the content. While it's easy to understand <em>how</em> to play, it is remarkably difficult <em>to</em> play.<br /><br /><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/17/ds-fanboy-review-spitfire-heroes-tales-of-the-royal-air-force/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>DS Fanboy Review: Spitfire Heroes: Tales of the Royal Air Force</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/17/ds-fanboy-review-spitfire-heroes-tales-of-the-royal-air-force/">DS Fanboy Review: Spitfire Heroes: Tales of the Royal Air Force</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 17 Mar 2008 10:30:00 EST. The game is kind of a surprise to us now, because this trailer actually looks pretty neat. The environments are a bit spare, but that's pretty much what happens when a game takes place almost entirely <em>above the ocean.</em><br /><br />In terms of gameplay, <em>Heroes</em> looks like a fast-paced, arcade airplane game like the vaunted <em>After Burner</em> -- with a little throttle control on the touchscreen, which is fun. We can only tolerate flying games when they're arcadey like this -- we don't want to take a <em>class</em> to play a flight simulator.<br /><br />[Via press release]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/03/spitfire-heroes-aims-high-embodies-other-airplane-cliches/">Spitfire Heroes aims high, embodies other airplane cliches</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 03 Mar 2008 17:00:00 EST. Aksys appears to be the default U.S. publisher for Arc System Works's Japanese releases. In addition to the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/19/spring-2008-american-balls-get-dodged/">wonderful</a> DS <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/02/hardboiled-detective-title-coming-to-the-us-after-all/">games</a> they're localizing, they have picked up Sonic Powered's mini-flight sim, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/06/petit-missions-in-petit-copter/">Petit Copter</a>.</em> The American release will be titled <em>MiniCopter: Adventure Flight.</em> This is the first American release for a game in the <em>Petit Copter </em>series, which has entries on the PS2, Xbox and other systems.<br /><br />Now that we know we'll get to play it, we're somewhat more interested in the title than before. The graphics are pretty rough, yes, but flying around in an oversized world, manipulating objects and carrying out objectives with air missiles and suction cups at least sounds <em>unique. </em>Of course, we'll be a lot more <em>"somewhat more interested"</em> <br />in a budget-priced <em>MiniCopter.</em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/28/petit-copter-flying-over-the-pacific/">Petit Copter flying over the Pacific</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 28 Nov 2007 13:30:00 EST. Remove all the metal from your pockets ... take off your shoes ... present your game consoles for inspection. Wait, what was that last one?<br /><br />Yes, as of Saturday <a href="http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/sop/index.shtm#video">new TSA rules</a> require travelers carrying "full-size electronics," including game consoles, to remove them from carry-on bags for a separate X-ray screening. Portable game systems and other small electronics can stay inside your luggage.<br /><br />TSA spokesperson Jennifer Peppin told <em><a href="http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/travel/2003820398_airweb04.html">The Seattle Times</a></em> that consoles were being given the same treatment as laptops and video cameras because "these types of devices can resemble components that could be used in explosives." What, and smaller electronics can't? Peppin also told <a href="http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/48313">ShackNews</a> that the consoles would not be subject to explosive swab testing or other security measures besides the separate X-ray screening. So don't worry about the residue from that firecracker tying up your flight plans, we suppose.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.gamespot.com/news/show_blog_entry.php?topic_id=25829873&amp;part=rss&amp;tag=gs_news&amp;subj=6176289">Gamespot</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/07/new-air-safety-rules-require-console-inspection/">New air safety rules require console inspection</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 07 Aug 2007 13:13:00 EST. During a long flight, he decided to play some <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Pearl/">Pearl, </a>despite not having been much of a fan previously. <br /><br />It turns out that the game was an excellent distraction. In a situation where he was forced to choose between <em>catching them all</em> and paying attention to his claustrophobia and fear of flight, he was able to delve into the game and discover its merit.<br /><br />We aren't especially scared of flying, which is a surprise considering all of the things we <em>are</em> afraid of, we also took a plane ride this weekend, also accompanied by our <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Pokemans/">Pokemans</a>. The method used to accomplish this goal? Flying around in airplanes and shooting everything, <em>obviously.</em> Something doesn't seem right about going into the past and shooting up the landscape to <em>prevent</em> the changing of world events, but what do we know? We aren't time travologists.<br /><br />There are 19 levels of time-travely, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rail_shooter">rail-shooty</a> action, and a bunch of different planes from past, present and future. And speaking of flight in the past, this game <em>doesn't</em> use the touch screen for flight controls. Siliconera previewed the Japanese release and had nothing but praise for the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/import">import</a>. The arcade-like flight sim manages to get the formula right with solid d-pad controls, addictive gameplay, and a number of small touches that add to the dogfighting atmosphere. Also, the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/anime">anime</a> cutscenes and downloadable content really separate <em>Jet Impulse</em> from its low-budget competition.<br /><br />Provided that <em>Jet Impulse</em> doesn't require us to manually land on an aircraft carrier at the end of every mission, we'll definitely be looking out for the game's US release later this year.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/09/jet-impulse-redeems-ds-flight-sims/">Jet Impulse redeems DS flight sims</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 09 Mar 2007 16:30:00 EST. It looks PC-based, but it just got us to thinking that we really need to see some flight simulator goodness on the next-gen consoles. I'd even settle for a low-grade graphics version on the Nintendo Wii. Back in our college days, we spent hours and hours flying around in LucasArts' <em>Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe</em>, and <em>Wing Commander III</em>, and we want to keep doing it. Build us a good, quality, realistic (and fun) flight simulator, and the masses will come. Is that too much to ask for? <br /><br />In the meantime, enjoy the footage, and pray for something good to come down the pipeline. Our wallets are ready and willing.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/02/02/todays-flight-simmiest-video-vulcan-blackbuck-raid-test-in-f/">Today's flight simmiest video: Vulcan - BlackBuck raid test in Falkland/Malvinas flight sim</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 02 Feb 2007 00:40:00 EST. Only 4 games are available at the moment, such as <em>Mario Kart DS </em>and <em>DS Golf</em>.<br /><br />Now, I'm no scientist, but I'm pretty sure that us Americans fly more than anyone else. So why not introduce this kind of promotion over here in the states? Imagine Business Class travelers being handed a DS Lite with <em>Brain Age</em> upon taking their seat! Isn't that the type of person that Nintendo is trying to get the DS into the hands of?<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.newlaunches.com/archives/japan_airlines_to_offer_nintendo_ds_lite_in-flight.php">Newlaunches</a>; Thanks <a href="http://www.shindakun.net/">Steve</a>!]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/06/12/japanese-enjoy-in-flight-ds-action/">Japanese enjoy in-flight DS action</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 12 Jun 2006 08:45:00 EST. Hudson Entertainment
happens to be on the list, along with a brief description of their Revolution game, cleverly entitled "Flight
Game". <br /><br />

<em>"Flight Game"&nbsp;
- Nintendo Revolution - Take to the skies in a way never before experienced on any home console. Using the Revolution's
"Gesture System" built into their innovative controller, Hudson's new "Flight Game" allows total
plane &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; control as players pilot their planes through various acrobatic flight maneuvers
ranging from sky artistry to bomb drops.</em><br /><br />My claim? <em>Flight Game</em> is actually <em>Pilotwings.
</em>The evidence? Well, it isn't difficult to make a connection between the above description, the <em>Pilotwings</em>
<a href="http://www.revolutionfanboy.com/2006/04/06/egm-to-confirm-pilotwings-sequel-for-the-revolution/">rumors of the
last few weeks</a> and the recently announced relationship between Nintendo and Hudson <a
href="http://www.revolutionfanboy.com/2006/03/23/virtual-console-sega-and-hudson-games-are-a-go/">regarding Virtual
Console games</a>. Add that to Nintendo's past habit of handing classic franchises to other Japanese developers (see:
Sega and <em>F-Zero GX</em>), and it becomes a fairly reasonable claim to make.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/04/19/claim-revolution-pilotwings-developed-by-hudson/">Claim: Revolution Pilotwings developed by Hudson</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 19 Apr 2006 15:25:00 EST. Flight aficionados
like myself will not find it hard to fall in love with the detail that this sim brings to the genre. Our question for
<em>X-Plane</em> is: will the majority of gamers (including ones that can't fly a plane) enjoy this title?<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/04/18/joystiq-review-x-plane-8-21-pc-mac-linux/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Joystiq Review: X-Plane 8.21 (PC/Mac/Linux) [Update 2]</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/04/18/joystiq-review-x-plane-8-21-pc-mac-linux/">Joystiq Review: X-Plane 8.21 (PC/Mac/Linux) [Update 2]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 18 Apr 2006 09:00:00 EST.
