<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7YwLQSTo_ow">Comm scan has detected</a> that new <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/star-wars-the-force-unleashed"><em>Star Wars: The Force Unleashed</em></a> Avatar items are now available on Xbox Live Marketplace. Yes, even <em>more</em> <em>Star Wars</em> stuff for your digital self. Normally, we would scoff at things like this, but hey ... there's a Stormtrooper outfit. Oh sure, you could get <a href="http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/avatar/offers/022f0007-0000-4000-8000-00004c4107e2/">a <em>clone</em> trooper outfit</a> before, but why waste money on that when the <em>obviously superior</em> Stormtrooper armor is available?<br />

After <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/16/new-force-unleashed-achievements-discovered/">new achievements</a> were discovered for <em>Star Wars: The Force Unleashed</em>, it's no surprise that the marketing machine is ramping up again for the game. <a href="http://majornelson.com/archive/2009/07/20/deal-of-the-week-the-force-unleashed-jedi-temple-mission-pack.aspx">Major Nelson</a> notes that this week's "deal" on Xbox Live's marketplace is the "Jedi Temple Mission Pack"<span class="album_title"> for 400<img border="0" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" /> ($5)</span>. That's half off the normal price and is available only to gold members.<br /><br />The pack, which was originally released last December, follows The Apprentice as he searches through the rubble of the Jedi Temple to learn more about his father. The pack also comes with three new outfits made out of ... well, we never did find out what happened to those Bothans.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/20/xbox-deal-of-the-week-is-old-force-unleashed-mission/">Xbox 'Deal of the Week' is old Force Unleashed mission</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 20 Jul 2009 10:30:00 EST. We bet you thought you were done with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/force-unleashed"><em>Star Wars: The Force Unleashed</em></a>. Well you just hold on a minute buster, it looks like LucasArts still wants to milk a few more Microsoft Points out of you before they've had their fill. We say that because a new batch of achievements have been discovered for the game on Xbox.com (full list at <a href="http://www.xbox360achievements.org/news/news-3152-The-Force-Unleashed-Updated-to-1345.html">X360A</a>).<br /><br />What's particularly interesting about these achievements is that most of them relate to characters made famous <em>after</em> the events that take place in <em>Force Unleashed</em>. There are achievements for defeating Boba Fett, Jabba's Rancor, and Obi-Wan Kenobi. The interesting part about the third one is that you have to defeat Obi-Wan before <em>and</em> after he dies. From the sound of things, there's some new DLC on the way that takes place during <em>A New Hope</em>. It also seems like it tasks players with taking up the role of Darth Vader, or perhaps it will introduce an alternate history involving his secret apprentice.<br /><br />LucasArts will be at the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/comic-con-2009">San Diego Comic-Con</a> next week -- with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/15/lucasarts-several-world-exclusive-announcements-at-comic-con/">plenty of announcements</a> to make -- so we probably won't have to keep guessing for long.<br /><br />[<a href="http://www.xbox360achievements.org/news/news-3152-The-Force-Unleashed-Updated-to-1345.html" />Thanks, Brandon!]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/16/new-force-unleashed-achievements-discovered/">New Force Unleashed achievements discovered</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 16 Jul 2009 16:15:00 EST. <em>The Force Unleashed</em> may have sold 5.7 million units worldwide, but let's take a look at the substance of that figure. <a href="http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=22256">Gamasutra</a> notes that the global total is made up of all the various platforms the title was available on. The list includes all major consoles, handhelds, iPod Touch, iPhone, N-Gage (for realz?!) and <em>other mobile devices</em>.<br /><br />Despite the varying quality of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/force-unleashed"><em>Force Unleashed</em></a> on all platforms, the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/16/metareview-the-force-unleashed-360-ps3/">competent</a> next-gen offerings were <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/23/force-unleashed-sells-1-5-million-units-in-a-week/">a hit right out of the space hanger</a>. Although the gameplay may not have been stellar, the story certainly captured people's attention, as the title went on to recently win a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/09/force-unleashed-grips-writers-guild-video-game-award/">Writers Guild award for game writing</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/11/the-force-unleashed-spread-thin-sells-5-7m-units/">The Force Unleashed spread thin sells 5.7m units</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 11 Feb 2009 15:27:00 EST. <em>Star Wars: The Force Unleashed</em> has been <a href="http://weblogs.variety.com/the_cut_scene/2009/02/force-unleashed-wins-wga-videogame-award.html">awarded</a> the second annual video game writing award by The Writers Guild of America. The Writers Guild of America has <a href="http://weblogs.variety.com/the_cut_scene/2009/01/writers-guild-videogame-award-nominees-announced.html">announced</a> five nominees for best video game writing in 2008. This will be the Guild's second year giving out the award, with last year's nod going to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/15/dead-head-fred-wins-wgas-first-video-game-writing-award/"><em>Dead Head Fred</em></a>. Hmm, well, this year's nominees are certainly an interesting group and are sure to generate some conversation about what constitutes good writing in a game ... provided said game was written by an eligible WGA member, that is.<br />

Although most of those titles are instantly recognizable, <em>Dangerous High School Girls</em> is an <a href="http://www.mousechief.com/dhsg/index.html">indie title</a> that's (clearly) gaining some recognition. After all, there's <em>slightly</em> less danger to modding a Wii if it is possible to find another one -- and some people may not have been able to find even <em>one</em> Wii to accidentally gouge or splatter.<br /><br />This <em>Star Wars</em> mod adds fiber-optic stars, a plexiglass logo and a hand-painted space combat scene to an aftermarket black Wii case -- with, of course, the standard slot light alteration. Now that the rush of video game releases has receded, you can finally focus on putting your money where it really belongs: On smaller pieces of video games. New downloadable content is now available on the 360 for <em>Force Unleashed, </em><em>GRID</em> and <em>Vigilante 8: Arcade</em>.<br /><br />We're far too broke to even think about picking some of these up, but what about you, team? By the way, we'd expect to see at least some of this on PSN today. We'll let you know.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/2008/12/04/new-dlc-roundup-force-unleashed-v8-and-grid/">X3F</a>]<br />

The <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/21/npd-chart-track-and-enterbrain-combine-forces-for-global-sales/">Top Global Markets</a> sales data from NPD, Chart-Track and Enterbrain (via <a href="http://www.gamedaily.com/articles/news/madden-tops-q3-global-report-as-west-shows-growth-but-japan-declines/?biz=1">GameDaily</a>) reveals that <em>Madden NFL 09</em> blitzed the global charts to become the best selling game in the third quarter of '08 (that's July to September). Trailing <span style="font-style: italic;">Madden</span> were <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/wii-fit" style="font-style: italic;">Wii Fit</a> and <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/star-wars-the-force-unleashed">Star Wars: The Force Unleashed</a></em>. Also, showing that the franchise still has some Pikachu-charged power behind it, <em>Pok&eacute;mon Platinum</em> battled in fourth place with 1.4 million units sold, despite being only available in Japan. <span style="font-style: italic;">Mario Kart Wii</span> rounded out the top five.<br /><br />Certainly the most interesting question about the sales figures is: Where would <span style="font-style: italic;">Wii Fit</span> be if it was actually <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/01/pachter-american-wii-fit-shortages-due-to-weak-dollar/">meeting demand</a>? <span style="font-style: italic;">Madden</span>'s sales were (obviously) US heavy, while <span style="font-style: italic;">Wii Fit</span> had a regional sales spread based on Wii's install base. <div align="left">For all the controversy, <a href="http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/xbox360/starwarstheforceunleashed">mixed reviews</a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/26/lucasarts-cuts-hit-force-unleashed-team-after-all/">internal firings</a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/force-unleashed"><em>Star Wars: The Force Unleashed</em></a> is a sales success! According to Lucas Arts, <em>Force Unleashed</em> moved 1.5 million units worldwide in its first week of sales, making it the fastest selling <em>Star Wars</em> game ever. EVER! Though, one has to be sure to note that the 1.5 million number takes into account the game's sales on all platforms. We guess a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/11/force-unleashed-demo-breaks-marketplace-record/">decent demo</a> can help a game's sales after all.</div>

Sure, many <strike>Bothans</strike> developers lost their <strike>lives</strike> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/26/lucasarts-cuts-hit-force-unleashed-team-after-all/">jobs</a>, but <em>The Force Unleashed</em> has gone on to sell 1.5 million units worldwide in less than a week, making it the fastest-selling <em>Star Wars</em> game of all time. The figures are based on the first five days of sales across all platforms the game is available on. LucasArts states it shipped more than 4.3 million copies of the game globally, but the demand now requires more units to be manufactured.<br /><br />Although <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/16/metareview-the-force-unleashed-360-ps3/">reviews of the game</a> have been fairly mixed, strong initial sales seem to have been foretold by the game's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/10/the-force-unleashed-demo-breaks-xblm-download-record/">record-setting demo downloads</a> and, uh, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/03/the-force-unleashed-tops-the-charts-in-hardcover-fiction/">book sales</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/23/force-unleashed-sells-1-5-million-units-in-a-week/">Force Unleashed sells 1.5 million units in a week</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 23 Sep 2008 19:00:00 EST. The reviews are in for <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Force-Unleashed/">The Force Unleashed</a></em>, and though the title promises unparalleled Force-based action, it seems that most of the praise being heaped on the game is for its story and how well it nails Lucas' universe. <br /><br />That doesn't mean that the Force is <em>wrong</em> with this one, though (we've been waiting for months to use that). The consensus is that throwing wookies about like Congenital Generalized Hypertrichosis-stricken Ken dolls is a never-ending font of fun.<br />

As a fan you will want to experience what The Force Unleashed has to offer. It's just a shame that while there are occasional moments of brilliance when everything falls into place, they're not quite enough to back up the game's delusions of grandeur."</li>

That said, it's unfortunate that the game isn't a bit more even, because the constant flips from too easy to too hard really drag things down and prevent <em>The Force Unleashed</em> from being great. But even with its lengthy list of caveats, The Force Unleashed is still one of the best Star Wars games to be released in quite some time."</li>

The big releases are starting to drip out as the industry steadily ramps up for yet another packed holiday season. This week, the Xbox 360 plays host to some decent titles including the likes of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/rock-band-2"><em>Rock Band 2</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/pure"><em>Pure</em></a>, and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/force-unleashed"><em>Star Wars: The Force Unleashed</em></a>. On top of those, we've also got <em>Armored Core: For Answer</em> and ... um ... <em>Battle Fantasia</em>. To our disappointment, we have learned that <em>Battle Fantasia</em> is <em>not</em> a fighting game about the Disney movie <em>Fantasia</em>. It's a shame, really, because we were ready to throw down with some <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kujWSIFoe94">tutu-wearing hippos</a>.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/15/new-games-this-week-rock-band-2-edition/">Joystiq</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/15/shipping-this-week-rock-band-2-unleashed-edition/">Shipping this week: Rock Band 2 Unleashed edition</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 15 Sep 2008 12:30:00 EST. They're also selling <a href="http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Tom-Clancy-s-Ghost-Recon-Advanced-Warfighter-2-Xbox-360-008888523475/sem/rpsm/oid/173406/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do"><em>GRAW2</em></a>, <a href="http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Saint-s-Row-Xbox-360-752919550021/sem/rpsm/oid/151514/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do"><em>Saints Row</em></a> and <a href="http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Dead-Rising-Xbox-360-013388330010/sem/rpsm/oid/150195/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do"><em>Dead Rising</em></a> for $15 and giving away a free tshirt and $10 gift card with the purchase of <a href="http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Star-Wars-Force-Unleashed-Xbox-360-023272332761/sem/rpsm/oid/206700/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do"><em>Force Unleashed</em></a>. Sadly, neither Best Buy or Target have any 360 deals worth mentioning. Then again, who needs 'em anyway? Happy spending!<br /></div>

<p>LucasArts has always been a strong supporter of the PSP, and the effort they're placing into the upcoming PSP version really shows. Anyone who's played the PS3 demo will find this level awfully familiar: it looks like the PSP version makes no significant sacrifices. Physics, destructible environments, and large hordes of enemies are all present in the PSP version. In fact, there's exclusive content on the PSP version you won't even find on the consoles. How's that for love?</p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/02/producer-takes-us-through-the-psp-version-of-star-wars-the-forc/">Producer takes us through the PSP version of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 02 Sep 2008 11:00:00 EST. We've finally harnessed the power of our combined snacking knowledge to create a regular, completely non-game related segment on it. Oh, sure we're still talking about video games like <span style="font-style: italic;">Force Unleashed</span>, <span style="font-style: italic;">Too Human </span>and <span style="font-style: italic;">S.T.A.L.K.E.R.</span>, but snacks (S.N.A.X.?) really steal the show.<br />

You'll be able to get your hands on a demo of <em>Star Wars: The Force Unleashed</em> this Thursday on PSN. However, we had a chance to get an early look at the upcoming release. As with most every <em>Star Wars</em> game, there's a lot of excitement and anticipation over this upcoming LucasArts project -- in spite of the franchise's notorious legacy of mediocrity. However, fans have rallied for <em>The Force Unleashed</em>, due to its unique interpretation of Force powers, and the dark character that stars in it. Darth Vader's apprentice is, essentially, the Kratos of the <em>Star Wars</em> universe. Dark, brooding, conflicted ... and yet oh-so-powerful. Certainly, the premise has a lot going for it.<br /><br />However, it becomes immediately apparent that <em>The Force Unleashed</em> isn't going to be the definitive <em>Star Wars</em> game that some are hoping it would be. The visuals are rather lackluster, with none of the environments, character models, or special effects looking beyond "par." Of course, it may be because of the demo: restricted to a rather clean, barren Imperial spaceship, there isn't much to see. Perhaps the game's later planetary levels will offer a bit more eye candy. Even the framerate didn't feel smooth -- and the camera seemed annoying, requiring manual adjustment throughout.<br /><br /><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/19/hands-on-star-wars-the-force-unleashed/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Hands-on: Star Wars: The Force Unleashed</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/19/hands-on-star-wars-the-force-unleashed/">Hands-on: Star Wars: The Force Unleashed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 19 Aug 2008 16:00:00 EST. Sadly, that isn't the case. It's actually a buy one get another <strong>HALF OFF </strong>sale. Our apologies, someone will be fired over this ... promise.<br /><br />This week, the usually Xbox 360 deal-lacking Toys R Us stores are holding a pretty solid week long sale where, for their entire 360 catalog, they're holding a <a href="http://www.toysrus.com/shop/index.jsp?categoryId=2255974">Buy 1 Get 1 half off sale</a>. On their entire catalog! That's pretty dandy ... you know, just saying. Next up, at Circuit City, they have <a href="http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Guitar-Hero-Aerosmith-Xbox-360-047875953413/sem/rpsm/oid/206018/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do"><em>GH: Aerosmith</em></a> (game only) for $50, <a href="http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Guitar-Hero-III-Legends-of-Rock-Xbox-360-047875951372/sem/rpsm/oid/190739/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do"><em>GHIII</em></a> (game only) for $40 and are giving away a $10 gift card with purchase of <a href="http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Soulcalibur-IV-Xbox-360-722674210058/sem/rpsm/oid/203769/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do"><em>SoulCalibur IV</em></a>. This week at Best Buy, they have <a href="http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8701452&amp;st=quake+wars&amp;lp=2&amp;type=product&amp;cp=1&amp;id=1199494972536"><em>Quake Wars</em></a> for $40 as well as a pre-order offer for <a href="http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?type=category&amp;id=pcmcat155700050058"><em>EndWar</em></a> to receive a beta invite and a pre-order offer to receive <a href="http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8957499&amp;st=infinite+undiscovery&amp;lp=2&amp;type=product&amp;cp=1&amp;id=1216424138613"><em>Infinite Undiscovery</em></a> foil packaging. That's it from Best Buy. Finally, Target's one 360 deal is a free <em><a href="http://www.target.com/Star-Wars-Force-Unleashed-Xbox/dp/B000R0URCE/sr=1-1/qid=1218983381/ref=sr_1_1/601-6508848-5799319?ie=UTF8&amp;index=target&amp;rh=k%3Aforce%20unleashed&amp;page=1">The Force Unleashed</a> </em>wall graphic with pre-order. More specifically, on the morning of Thursday, August 21st. Also as promised, the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/force-unleashed"><em>Force Unleashed</em></a> demo will include a tutorial mode to master the Force Grip power and a complete level of gameplay set in a TIE Fighter Construction Facility where we're guessing a bunch of objects explode real good. LucasArts released a fancy new trailer for <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/the-force-unleashed"><span style="font-style: italic;">The Force Unleashed</span></a> and, although many of the people who made it <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/26/lucasarts-cuts-hit-force-unleashed-team-after-all/">aren't working at the company anymore</a>, the empire must march on to get ready for the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/03/the-force-unleashed-unleashed-on-september-16/">Sept 16 launch</a>.<br /><br />Feel free to peruse our hands-on impressions of several versions of the game (<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/07/joystiq-hands-on-star-wars-the-force-unleashed-wii/">Wii</a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/07/joystiq-hands-on-star-wars-the-force-unleashed-ps2-psp/">PSP/PS2</a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/07/joystiq-hands-on-star-wars-the-force-unleashed-ds/">DS</a>) after you've checked out the trailer featuring -- what we're guessing, by the looks of it -- is the PS3/Xbox 360 version of the title. The Dark Apprentice can be found force powering it up after the break.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/star-wars-the-force-unleashed/">Star Wars: The Force Unleashed</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/star-wars-the-force-unleashed/#310159"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/07/sw_tfu_logo_no_character_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/star-wars-the-force-unleashed/#310158"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/07/sw_tfu_logo_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/star-wars-the-force-unleashed/#309702"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/07/sw_es_image105a_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/star-wars-the-force-unleashed/#309701"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/07/force_unleashed_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/star-wars-the-force-unleashed/#309700"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/07/knighting_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/10/star-wars-the-force-unleashed-trailer-runs-free/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Star Wars: The Force Unleashed trailer runs free</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/10/star-wars-the-force-unleashed-trailer-runs-free/">Star Wars: The Force Unleashed trailer runs free</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 10 Jul 2008 21:30:00 EST. We're pretty psyched for the PSP version of <em>The Force Unleashed</em>. Why? Well, it looks <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/02/star-wars-the-force-unleashed-looks-impressive-on-psp/">gorgeous</a>. It also adds tons of PSP-<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/29/star-wars-force-unleashed-to-feature-exclusive-levels-on-psp/">exclusive</a> features, like historical missions. You'll be able to recreate the epic battle between Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker in Episode V exclusively on PSP, for example. The lack of a second analog stick, according to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/07/joystiq-hands-on-star-wars-the-force-unleashed-ps2-psp/">Joystiq</a> doesn't appear to hinder the game at all. "The PSP game still moved smoothly, and the automatic camera tracked from behind my character, usually providing an effective view of what I needed. In both versions, I felt in control of my aim, throwing the light saber at enemies, or launching other attacks from a distance."<br /><br />Joystiq has a few new images of the PSP version in action in their gallery:<br /><br />

<span style="float: left; margin-right: 10px; margin-top: 7px;"> <script> var digg_url = 'http://digg.com/nintendo/Star_Wars_The_Force_Unleashed_Wii_Impressions_Unleashed'; </script> <script src="http://digg.com/api/diggthis.js"></script></span> For good and bad -- or should I say <em>light</em> and <em>dark </em>-- <em>Star Wars: The Force Unleashed</em> for Wii is clearly a Wii game. Side-by-side with the PS3 and 360 versions, the Wii graphics disappoint, and the complexity and frequency of enemies feels scaled back. But the Wii motion controls are regularly interesting, mapping many of the game's controls into gestures. The simplest ones feel great, like punching the Nunchuk forward to do the Force-push.<br /><br />After recently playing late-development versions of all four game editions--360/PS3, Wii, DS, and PS2/PSP--I think the Wii game holds up as well as any of them. I had fun throwing enemies, shooting them with lightning, and hitting them with the lightsaber. And while the Wii holds its own, I'm mildly concerned that the final game could be repetitious, just cutting down waves of attackers. Hopefully the many different attacks, and Wii-specific <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/15/joystiq-hands-on-star-wars-the-force-unleashed-duel-mode-wii/">two-player duel mode</a>, will keep the game interesting.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/star-wars-the-force-unleashed-wii/">Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (Wii)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/star-wars-the-force-unleashed-wii/#903952"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/07/tfu_wii_screenshot_999864_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/star-wars-the-force-unleashed-wii/#903951"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/07/tfu_wii_screenshot_596704_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/star-wars-the-force-unleashed-wii/#903950"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/07/tfu_wii_screenshot_555554_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/star-wars-the-force-unleashed-wii/#903949"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/07/tfu_wii_screenshot_241564_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/star-wars-the-force-unleashed-wii/#903948"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/07/tfu_wii_screenshot_545454_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/07/joystiq-hands-on-star-wars-the-force-unleashed-wii/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Joystiq hands-on: Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (Wii)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/07/joystiq-hands-on-star-wars-the-force-unleashed-wii/">Joystiq hands-on: Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (Wii)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 07 Jul 2008 12:00:00 EST. <p>The PSP version of <em>Star Wars: The Force Unleashed</em> looks to be quite a winner. Not only will it have <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/29/star-wars-force-unleashed-to-feature-exclusive-levels-on-psp/">more content </a>than its console brethren, but it's already pulling off some impressive visuals. Look at this new video from IGN to see the bloom lighting, impressive particle effects and spectacular physics engine. This is a portable game?</p>

No, you're not seeing things, and no we haven't made a gargantuan mistake by having a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/the-force-unleashed/"><em>Star Wars: The Force Unleashed</em></a> pic on a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/soulcalibur-iv/"><em>Soulcalibur IV</em></a> story. It, basically, <em>is</em> the story. For you see, according to <a href="http://www.gamespot.com/news/6192140.html">Gamespot</a>, not only is Darth Vader making his way into the PS3 version of <em>Soulcalibur IV</em>, but his dark apprentice will be following close behind. However, the apprentice will be the only guest <em>Star Wars</em> character to go multiplatform as both Vader and Yoda will remain console exclusives.<br /><br />It's quite interesting to see all these cross-genre, cross-developer crossovers. Speaking to <a href="http://www.videogamer.com/news/12-05-2008-8259.html">VideoGamer.com</a> (most straightforward website name <em>evar</em>), <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/force-unleashed"><em>Star Wars: The Force Unleashed</em></a> producer Cameron Suey revealed that a demo for the game is definitely in the works. Suey stated that LucasArts "definitely want to get it out there," noting, "the gameplay itself is so engaging, people who aren't Star Wars fans or who aren't even hardcore gamers, once they get their hands on some of the gameplay and how it works, are really going to be won over by it." Strong words to be sure. No details were given regarding when the demo will actually be available. Presumably, it will arrive shortly before or just after the game launches in September.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/12/lucasarts-planning-demo-for-the-force-unleashed/">Joystiq</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/13/star-wars-the-force-unleashed-demo-to-be-unleashed/">Star Wars: The Force Unleashed demo to be unleashed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 13 May 2008 11:15:00 EST. Oh boy, we're really worried now about the plethora of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/wiiitis">Wii-itis</a> and other <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/12/21/wii-tarded-wiinjurie-jokes-escalating/">Wii-injuries</a> stories coming in September. We've already written about our <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/15/joystiq-hands-on-star-wars-the-force-unleashed-duel-mode-wii/">hands-on time</a> with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/the-force-unleashed"><em>Star Wars: The Force Unleashed</em></a> for Wii, specifically the duel mode, but <a href="http://www.g4tv.com/xplay/videos/21570/XPlay_Exclusive_Star_Wars_The_Force_Unleashed_for_Wii.html">G4TV</a> has a video of LucasArts producer Dan Wasson showing X-Play's Morgan Webb how to use the control scheme in duel mode.<br /><br />To summarize: the game recognizes five different directions -- left, right, up, down and "stab" -- for different lightsaber strikes, while force powers are done with the nunchuk and can be combined for combos. We could easily see how this might get out of hand (literally) in heated multiplayer matches, what with someone getting strangled with the nunchuk wire and another hapless Wii remote sent through a big-screen TV. Help us, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/11/joystiq-hands-on-wiimote-jacket/">Wiimote Glove Kenobi</a>, you're our only hope.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/05/how-to-use-the-wii-remote-in-the-force-unleashed-duel-mode/">How to use the Wii remote in The Force Unleashed duel mode</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 05 May 2008 16:25:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/force-unleashed/"><em>Star Wars: The Force Unleashed</em></a> is hitting the PSP this coming September 16. In case you didn't hear about it yesterday over on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/03/star-wars-the-force-unleashed-unleashes-on-sept-16/">PS3 Fanboy</a>, <em>Force Unleashed</em> lets players run amok as Darth Vader's secret apprentice. That means feel free to kill any and all younglings your dark heart so desires.<br /><br />The PSP version of <em>Force Unleashed </em>is not being developed by LucasArts but is under the care of Krome Studios. The portable version will also not be featuring the Digital Molecular Matter and Euphoria engines that make the PS3 version so life-like; however, it will include exclusive levels. Expect this title to ship out to Southeast Asia and Australia by Sept. 17, and Europe on Sept. 19. <p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/04/star-wars-the-force-unleashed-on-psp-by-sept-16/">Star Wars: The Force Unleashed on PSP by Sept. 16</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 04 Apr 2008 13:30:00 EST. LucasArts today announced that the upcoming <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/22/gdc08-star-wars-the-force-unleashed-gameplay-videos/"><em>Star Wars: The Force Unleashed</em></a> will be arriving on United States shores on September 16, 2008. Southeast Asia and Australia will see the game the next day on September 17, whereas Europe gets the latest Jedi fix on September 19. <em>The Force Unleashed</em> takes place between episodes 3 and 4 of the <em>Star Wars</em> saga and tells the story of Darth Vader's secret apprentice who, among other things, utilizes incredibly strong Force powers and has discovered yet another weird way in which to wield a light saber. The most notable feature of the game thus far is its <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/25/video-the-tech-behind-star-wars-force-unleashed/">implementation of physics</a> among its characters and environments.<br /><br />Please note our use of extreme self-control in not resorting to an "unleashed" pun when writing this article.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/03/the-force-unleashed-unleashed-on-september-16/">Joystiq</a>]<br />

The DS version hasn't received much focus in the discussion revolving around the game, so little has been said on exactly what DS owners should expect from the handheld title. That is, until now.<br /><br /><em>Star Wars: The Force Unleashed</em> will supposedly employ a third-person perspective when playing the game, much like the console versions, but there will be 2D animated cutscenes instead of the highly-detailed snippets found in the game for consoles. Moving your character around will be handled with the d-pad, while interacting with the game will be handled primarily with the stylus. Also, there will be a multiplayer mode allowing for up to four players to enjoy over wireless, though further details on that are not currently available.<br /><br />Sounds good to us, we hope the control scheme can be pulled off. We'd like to be able to kick ass with The Force <em>outside</em> the comfort of our own home, as well as within in.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=185064?cid=OTC-RSS&amp;attr=CVG-General-RSS">CVG</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/19/star-wars-the-details-unleashed/">Star Wars: The Details Unleashed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 19 Mar 2008 17:00:00 EST. What do you get when you mix the powerful Havoc physics engine, the Euphoria AI engine and a pinch of digital molecular matter technology? Well, in Lucas Arts' case, you get a game that goes by the name of <em>Star Wars: Force Unleashed</em> and its freakin' amazing gameplay.<br /><br />Embedded above is a a <a href="http://www.gametrailers.com/player/29964.html">tech demo video</a> where you can witness how <em>Force Unleashed</em> masterly blends each engine, each program and each effect into one cohesive gameplay experience. Watch as glass shatters, AI grabs onto the nearest object when lifted into the air and you'll see the entire environment breaks at its seams.
