The company <a href="http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/10/17/us-foxconn-teenagers-idUSBRE89F1U620121017">released a statement</a> confessing that "Our investigation has shown that the interns in question, who ranged in age from 14 to 16, had worked in that campus for approximately three weeks," in violation of Chinese labor law.<br /><br />In response, Nintendo <a href="http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/10/18/iphone-wii-u-manufacturer-admits-to-employing-children">issued its own statement</a>. "Nintendo is in communication with Foxconn and is investigating the matter. We take our responsibilities as a global company very seriously and are committed to an ethical policy on sourcing, manufacture and labor."<br /><br />Any child labor would also be in violation of Nintendo's own "<a href="http://www.nintendo.co.jp/csr/en/index.html">Corporate Social Responsibility</a> <a href="http://www.nintendo.co.jp/csr/en/report2012/02_2/index.html">Procurement Guidelines</a>," as part of which Nintendo conducts regular on-site inspections of companies it works with.<br /><br />"If we were to find that any of our production partners did not meet our guidelines, we would require them to modify their practices according to Nintendo's policy," Nintendo said in its statement.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/18/nintendo-investigating-manufacturer-foxconn-after-child-labor-ad/">Nintendo investigating manufacturer Foxconn after child labor admission</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 18 Oct 2012 11:30:00 EST. Another possibly "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/09/sceas-koller-calls-ps3-slim-rumors-frustrating/">frustrating</a>" leak for Sony, word comes from our buddies at Joystiq Japan and Engadget Chinese that two Taiwanese manufacturing companies have been awarded contracts to build Sony's new streamlined PS3, affectionately known as the <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/ps3-slim">PS3 Slim</a>. According to <a href="http://udn.com/NEWS/STOCK/STO3/4990039.shtml">UDN.com</a>, half of the orders have gone to Taiwanese group Foxconn, while the other half has gone to Pegatron. The units are expected to start shipping in early July "to cope with expected summer vacation demands."<br /><br />The news has a ring of truth to it, given that the two firms have manufactured the original PS3. The timing also makes sense, as Japan actually buys most of its game consoles during the summer vacation period (as opposed to the winter holidays in the west). Still, all of this info comes from anonymous sources, so take it with a very hearty helping of salt.<br /><br />Assuming the news is true, it would mesh well with the PS3 Slim rumors we've heard so far, most notably that Ars Technica <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/28/ars-mole-says-slimmer-ps3-coming-in-august-or-sept/">expected</a> the units to hit the market in August or September. Add this to the <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/2009/05/18/ps3-slim-plot-thickens-engadget-gets-cease-and-desist/">string</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/26/rumor-ars-technica-mole-foretells-ps3-and-360-price-drop-in-fal/">of</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/30/rumored-psp-go-box-bares-striking-resemblance-to-rumored-slim-ps/">rumors</a> and leaks -- even some purported <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/14/rumor-pictures-show-slim-ps3-model-in-production/">images</a> of the unit itself -- and the PS3 Slim looks like it could be hitting the ground sooner rather than later.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/30/rumor-taiwanese-firms-awarded-ps3-slim-manufacturing-contracts/">Rumor: Taiwanese firms awarded PS3 Slim manufacturing contracts</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 30 Jun 2009 13:50:00 EST. Four months after the console's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/launch">initial release</a>, it's still unlikely that you'll be able to find a Wii on store shelves.<br /><br />Up until now, Foxconn Precision Components has been the sole manufacturer behind the Wii's assembly. Nintendo hopes to increase its production by taking on an additional manufacturing partner, researching offers from Asustek Computer, Compal Electronics, Inventec, and Wistron.<br /><br />It's great that Nintendo is looking to increase the amount of systems it ships out, but how long will it be before we see the benefits of this partnership? It was already evident that the Wii's supply was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/shortage">constrained</a> months ago -- why didn't Nintendo bring in a new manufacturer then?<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.next-gen.biz/index.php?option=com_content&amp;task=view&amp;id=5056&amp;Itemid=2">Next Generation</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/29/nintendo-searching-for-more-wii-manufacturers/">Nintendo searching for more Wii manufacturers</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 29 Mar 2007 11:00:00 EST.
