Though we remain disappointed in the dearth of proper 3DS ambassador games -- perhaps one where you solve a gruesome series of murders at an embassy -- Nintendo has at least completed its <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/28/current-3ds-owners-eligible-for-free-games/">rewards program for early adopters</a> of the system. The ten free Gameboy Advance games are now available to everyone who connected to the Nintendo eShop before August 12th.<br />
<br />
Your portable rewards include: <em>Super Mario Advance 3: Yoshi's Island</em>, <em>Mario Kart: Super Circuit</em>, <em>Metroid Fusion</em>, <em>WarioWare Inc. Mega Microgames</em>, <em>Mario vs. Donkey Kong</em>, <em>Wario Land 4</em>, <em>Kirby &amp; The Amazing Mirror</em>, <em>Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones</em>, <em>Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap</em>, and <em>F-Zero: Maximum Velocity</em>.<br />
<br />
To download the games, sign into the eShop, visit the "Settings" page and pull up your download history. Your 3DS will be under the impression that you've already downloaded them, but just go with it and start re-downloading.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/16/gift-of-the-gba-3ds-ambassadors-can-now-access-another-10-free/">Gift of the GBA: 3DS Ambassadors can now access another 10 free games</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 16 Dec 2011 09:50:00 EST. Japanese and UK 3DS owners have received SpotPass alerts notifying them that the long-awaited Game Boy Advance games for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/28/current-3ds-owners-eligible-for-free-games/">3DS "Ambassadors"</a> will arrive this Friday. Ten games will be delivered for free to anyone who visited the eShop before the 3DS price drop -- the same people who got ten NES games earlier this year.<br />
<br />
The full list of GBA games being handed out December 16 includes the following (newly revealed games in bold): <em>Super Mario Advance 3: Yoshi's Island, Mario Kart: Super Circuit, Metroid Fusion, WarioWare Inc. Mega Microgames, Mario vs. Donkey Kong, <strong>Wario Land 4, Kirby &amp; The Amazing Mirror, Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones, Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap, and F-Zero: Maximum Velocity</strong>.</em><br />
<br />
Both the date and the list of games are identical in both territories, so we expect to hear similar news for North America soon.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/14/gba-ambassador-games-out-in-uk-and-japan-this-friday-full-list/">GBA Ambassador games out in UK and Japan this Friday, full list revealed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 14 Dec 2011 09:20:00 EST. What, those <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/28/current-3ds-owners-eligible-for-free-games/">10 free NES games</a> aren't tiding you over? Well Nintendo's got another present for you, 3DS owners, with today's free release of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/the-legend-of-zelda-four-swords-adventures"><em>The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Anniversary Edition</em></a>. Oh, and this one benefits you too, DSi owners. In addition to the multiplayer-only content, of which the game was exclusively composed on the Game Boy Advance, <em>Four Swords</em> on the 3DS comes with a brand new single-player section.<br />
<br />
Nintendo's weekly eShop update usually takes place on Thursdays in North America, so it's unclear whether the full update will arrive early today or if <em>Four Swords</em> will launch all by its lonesome (though the latter seems more likely as of now). As the game will only be <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/13/zelda-four-swords-hits-dsiware-september-28/">available for a limited time</a> (from today until Feb. 20, 2012), we can't help but wonder why you're not already downloading it. Get to it! It's <em>free</em>!<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-four-swords-anniversary-edition/">The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Anniversary Edition</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-four-swords-anniversary-edition/#4485048"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/09/dsiware4swordscrn012011ev_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-four-swords-anniversary-edition/#4485051"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/09/dsiware4swordscrn022011ev-_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-four-swords-anniversary-edition/#4485053"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/09/dsiware4swordscrn032011ev_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-four-swords-anniversary-edition/#4485055"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/09/dsiware4swordscrn042011ev_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-four-swords-anniversary-edition/#4485056"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/09/dsiware4swordscrn052011ev-_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/28/psa-four-swords-anniversary-edition-out-now-worldwide/">PSA: Four Swords Anniversary Edition out now worldwide</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 28 Sep 2011 12:30:00 EST. The company didn't clarify, however, whether the game would be the original <em>Four Swords</em> <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Legend_of_Zelda:_A_Link_to_the_Past_%26_Four_Swords#In_Four_Swords_2">multiplayer game</a> that was packed in with <em>A Link to the Past</em> on GameBoy Advance, the GameCube <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Legend_of_Zelda:_Four_Swords_Adventures"><em>Four Swords Adventures</em></a>, or some combination of both.<br />
<br />
Nintendo confirmed to Joystiq today that the game will in fact be the GBA multiplayer game that was included with <em>LTTP</em>. Clarifying further, we were told "This is separate from the GameCube version," though it's still unclear what updates, if any, will be made to the DSiWare version of <em>Four Swords</em> -- we'd be shocked not to see some redone graphics, and how about some online multiplayer for good measure? It remains to be seen.<br />
<br />
The free download will be here in September, according to Nintendo's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/07/nintendo-e3-keynote/">E3 presentation</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/14/free-dsiware-four-swords-is-the-gba-version/">Free DSiWare Four Swords is the GBA version</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 14 Jun 2011 13:45:00 EST. No, we're not really sure how a GameCube game with GameBoy Advance functionality will end up on Nintendo's DSi, but we imagine it'll have the GameCube game on your top DSi screen while the GBA part of the game shows up on the bottom screen. We'll be sure to ask Nintendo for more details as soon as we can.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/07/legend-of-zelda-four-swords-adventures-coming-for-free-in-septe/">The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures coming for free in September</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 07 Jun 2011 12:21:00 EST. At first glance, the Game Boy Camcorder mod seen above may seem like too much work for too little payoff -- but, for us, the effort is totally validated. It may not fit in your front pocket, but it's a way more interesting camcorder than your pal's boring old <a href="http://store.theflip.com/en-us/?gclid=CMWctNXC_qgCFWUbQgodiywiTA">Flip</a>.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/24/game-boy-camcorder-mod-is-a-lot-of-work-and-looks-totally-worth/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Game Boy Camcorder mod is a lot of work (and looks totally worth it)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/24/game-boy-camcorder-mod-is-a-lot-of-work-and-looks-totally-worth/">Game Boy Camcorder mod is a lot of work (and looks totally worth it)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 24 May 2011 05:05:00 EST. If you've been waiting to snag that copy of <em>Final Fantasy VI Advance</em> from your local Gamestop until its price gets cut, you might want to stop putting off your purchase, as that price is about to go down from $22.99 to "We don't have any copies anymore." According to a number of our tipsters and a handful of retail locations, the store is set to stop accepting Game Boy Advance games and systems as soon as April 2.<br />
<br />
As Gamestop doesn't really get new copies of Game Boy Advance games in anymore, it seems this measure is the first step in phasing out the handheld. We've got our fingers crossed that this new policy will come with a fire sale on some of our favorite GBA titles, which we've lost while sailing the unforgiving seas of time. By which, of course, we mean we left them in our jeans, and sent them through the washing machine.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/11/gamestop-to-stop-buying-gba-systems-and-games-in-april/">Gamestop to stop buying GBA systems and games in April</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 11 Mar 2011 10:00:00 EST. As has been requested for the original DS and DSi since time immemorial (2004), Nintendo will offer downloadable Game Boy and Game Boy Color games on the 3DS, through a VIrtual Console-style store. <br />
<br />
In addition, as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/16/preview-the-3ds-lineup/">shown at E3</a>, Nintendo will offer 3D-ified versions of classics like <em>Xevious</em>.<br />
<br />
<strong>Update:</strong> The <a href="http://www.nintendo.co.jp/n10/conference2010/presentation/textE/06.html">transcript</a> from Nintendo's conference last night show that Iwata specified games from the Game Boy and Game Boy Color -- not Advance. At least, not yet. We apologize for the confusion.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/29/3ds-has-a-game-boy-gba-virtual-console/">3DS has a Game Boy/ Game Boy Color Virtual Console [update]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 29 Sep 2010 01:43:00 EST. The video after the break makes a pretty good case for why people did so, and for why you'll be headed to eBay momentarily.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/12/scan-this-footage-of-super-mario-advance-4s-e-reader-content/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Scan this footage of Super Mario Advance 4's e-Reader content</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/12/scan-this-footage-of-super-mario-advance-4s-e-reader-content/">Scan this footage of Super Mario Advance 4's e-Reader content</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 12 Aug 2010 01:20:00 EST. Specifically, the publisher announced that the compilation of four Game Boy Advance side-scrollers will arrive in North America on June 8 for $30. That's just $7.50 per <em>Zero!</em> Additionally, a new trailer can be seen above, and the (lovely) <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mega-man-zero-collection-ds/full/#2940168">box art</a> has been added to our gallery.<br />
<br />
New features in the collection include customizable controls, art gallery functionality (which displays art on the bottom screen and the game on the top screen, so you can look while you play), and a new "Easy Scenario" mode to help new players get through these difficult games.<br />

The game once called "not just the best Sega CD RPG ever, but one of the best on any Sega system" has eventually moved to almost all of the systems, as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/lunar-silver-star-story"><em>Lunar: The Silver Star</em></a> has been remade and re-released on the Sega Saturn, the PlayStation, the PC, and even the GBA. And now here it comes again on the PSP as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/lunar-silver-star-harmony/"><em>Lunar: Silver Star Harmony</em></a>. This time around, the graphics have been given a complete makeover, and cutscenes have been added in, along with new voicework and music as well. Although going by the video above, XSEED might not have even bothered -- the new anime style turns a console RPG relic into something that looks like <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ranma_%C2%BD"><em>Ranma &amp;frac12;</em></a>.<br />
<br />
But the gameplay is still there, and the story is a good one. <em> Lunar: Silver Star Harmony</em> should be out in stores on March 2nd, available both for $29.99 and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/18/lunar-silver-star-harmony-gets-definitive-limited-edition/">as a limited edition</a> for $39.99.<br />

Capcom just announced its plans to localize the <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/mega-man-zero-collection"><em>Mega Man Zero Collection</em></a> for Nintendo DS. <br />
<br />
The collection contains all four games in the <em>Mega Man X</em> spinoff series <em>Mega Man Zero</em>, originally released on Game Boy Advance between 2002 and 2005. The press release promises "new modes," though it doesn't specify what those modes <em>are</em>. We know that the <a href="http://nintendo.joystiq.com/2010/01/18/mega-man-zero-collection-trailer-its-mega-man-zero-games-on-ds/">Japanese version</a> includes some kind of artwork collection.<br />
<br />
The collection will be released in "early summer 2010," just in time for us to have given up on trying to complete <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/mega-man-10"><em>Mega Man 10</em></a>.<br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/28/mega-man-zero-collection-arrives-in-north-america-in-early-summ/">Mega Man Zero Collection arrives in North America in 'early summer'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 28 Jan 2010 13:20:00 EST. <div style="text-align: left;">At first glance, this iPhone / GBA mod by <a href="http://goteking.web.infoseek.co.jp/jyank/stupid_iphone_case/stupid_iphone_case.htm">Goteking </a>seems pretty novel. It has the classic charm of the Game Boy Advance coupled with the technical wizardry of the iPhone. And, as many Joystiq staffers noticed, it handily conjures up hilarious memories of the Nokia <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/30/nokia-announces-the-death-of-the-n-gage/">n-gage</a>. However, upon realizing that the mod is literally just an iPhone crammed into an empty GBA shell, the cruel joke is revealed.<br />
<br />
You see, despite the lovely, responsive physical buttons surrounding the display, you'll still be forced to use the awful, unintuitive virtual buttons to control your games. Ah well, we're sure it's still good for at least a few <a href="http://sidetalking.com/">sidetalking</a> jokes. See a video of the mod in action after the break.<br />

Look, we all buy crappy games every now and then ... it just happens. But instead of hiding those titles under a pile of dirty clothes or trading them in at <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gamestop">GameStop</a> for almost nothing, you can now convert them into thumb drives. That is, if they're the right size and shape, like the <em>Advance Wars 2</em> cartridge you see above (via <a href="http://gonintendo.com/viewstory.php?id=97186">Go Nintendo</a>). We don't know why someone would ruin that game to do this, so we suggest you target <a href="http://apps.metacritic.com/games/platforms/gba/fearfactorunleashed"><em>Fear Factor: Unleashed</em></a> instead.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/18/put-your-fear-factor-gba-cartidge-to-good-use/">Put your Fear Factor GBA cartridge to good use (turn it into a thumb drive!)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 18 Sep 2009 13:45:00 EST. Nintendo's customer service has a reputation for going <a href="http://nintendo.joystiq.com/2007/11/19/nintendo-replaces-ds-lite-asks-no-questions/">above</a> <a href="http://nintendo.joystiq.com/2008/03/09/disc-errors-plague-some-unlucky-brawlers-nintendo-offers-repair/">and</a> <a href="http://nintendo.joystiq.com/2007/02/15/a-heart-warming-tale-of-customer-service-gone-right/">beyond</a> to satisfy the needs of once-distraught fans. This may be because only the stories of NIntendo awesomeness proliferate online (Not a headline: "Nintendo says it can't do anything for broken DS"), but this stuff makes us so happy that we'd rather not go all cynical. For now.<br /><br /><a href="http://gonintendo.com/?p=71149">GoNintendo</a> reader PsyduckWarrior's house caught fire, destroying (among other things, of course) his entire video game collection, including almost every Nintendo system and "more than 250 Nintendo games spanning all their consoles". Later, he sent Nintendo a fairly simple inquiry about transferring his account to a new Wii, including pictures demonstrating the circumstances through which he came to <em>require</em> a new Wii.<br /><br />Nintendo responded by offering to send him a new Wii, along with a replacement for his Game Boy Advance SP. It may not be a replacement for his whole game collection, but it is a <em>super-</em>classy move from a company that could have just classified PsyduckWarrior's plight as, "Not our problem."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/02/nintendo-replaces-wii-melted-in-house-fire/">Nintendo replaces Wii melted in house fire</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 02 Feb 2009 14:00:00 EST. All it would take is, oooh, let's say a DS version of the classic RPG and <em>A MILLION DOLLARS</em>. Or, y'know, just the game.<br /><br />And look, Nintendo, <em>Mother 3 </em>co-developer Brownie Brown is happy to indulge us! What on earth could Nintendo want with one of the most renowned French military leaders in history <em>[insert French military joke here]</em>? Are we about to receive <em>Napoleon Bonaparte's Military Training</em>? <em>Super Napoleon Kart</em>? Guess what: it's probably <em>neither of these</em>.<br /><br />Siliconera's Spencer, who also found the trademark, predicts that Nintendo could be preparing a title based on <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Napoleon_(card_game)">a popular card game</a> in Japan, also called Napoleon. A second, more tantalizing possibility: this is a remake of/sequel to the GBA strategy title of <a href="http://uk.gameboy.ign.com/objects/015/015253.html">the same name</a>. That was developed by Genki, but was published by Nintendo in Japan and France. Nintendo isn't adverse to publishing the odd strategy title, and we hear those <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/advance-wars">turned out</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/fire-emblem">okay</a>!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/15/nintendo-planning-a-game-about-napoleon/">Nintendo planning a game about Napoleon?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 15 Dec 2008 20:19:00 EST. The DS has been <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/npd">quite the success</a> for Nintendo since it released. So successful, in fact, that shipments for the handheld worldwide have bested that of Nintendo's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/category/gba">Game Boy Advance</a>, as the DS has shipped 84.33 million units by the end of September 2008 (GBA lifetime shipments come in at 81.36 million units). Impressive, sure, but there's still higher places the handheld can climb on Mt. Awesome Accomplishments. <br /><br />While besting the GBA record is noteworthy, the record still goes to the original Game Boy, which has done 118.69 million units. This figure includes the Game Boy Color, as well.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/30/ds-shipments-surpass-game-boy-advance/">DS shipments surpass Game Boy Advance</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 30 Oct 2008 16:44:00 EST. Yesterday, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/06/goodbye-gba/">we presented a feature</a> that said goodbye to all of the great things <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/06/goodbye-gba/">the GBA slot can be used for</a> on the DS Lite. As you all know, the new DSi says sayonara to the GBA slot. What we're wondering is, what will be the most missed aspect of that GBA slot for yourself? Will you miss <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/goodbye-gba-slot/1080161/">not being able to play <em>Guitar Hero: On Tour</em></a> on your DSi? Are you sad to see <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/goodbye-gba-slot/1081538/">your gigantic library of GBA games</a> is not supported by the new device? What will you miss most about the GBA slot?<br /><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/07/ds-daily-bummed-about-the-gba/">DS Daily: Bummed about the GBA</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 07 Oct 2008 08:00:00 EST. "Oh, who cares about that thing?" you ask aloud, paying no heed to your alarming habit of vocally addressing the internet. "I can't wait to get that newly announced <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dsi">Nintendo DSi</a>! I don't need no G'bah slot." You pause briefly, ignoring the dire grammar in your previous sentence in favor of concocting something humorous. "I say G'bye to it. Oh, that was clever." <br /><br />It wasn't. <em>And you're pathetic</em>.<br /><br />Also, you might just be a tad hasty. As <a href="http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2008/10/02/how-losing-a-gba-slot-affects-ds-gaming/">MTV Multiplayer</a>'s Stephen Totilo points out, there are several things you won't be able to do on Nintendo's wondrous new device. No Game Boy Advance games -- but will those be offered for download from the DSi store? -- and certainly no rumble cartridges. There won't be any room for your collection of weird-peripheral games either, with <em>Arkanoid</em> losing its <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/03/arkanoid-ds-headed-up-north-american-creek-without-a-paddle/">paddle pizazz</a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-on-tour"><em>Guitar Hero: On Tour</em></a> bidding farewell to its frets. <br /><br />Though the DSi won't arrive in the US until "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/02/reggie-dsi-release-not-until-well-into-2009/">well into 2009</a>" and, despite its technological tweaks, be unable to magically transform every DS Lite out there, publishers will no doubt have to start planning new games and, oh yes, new peripherals. We're <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/17/double-the-volume-of-guitar-hero-expected-in-2009/">looking at you</a>, Activision (and we've contacted you about it).<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/02/reminder-the-dsi-is-lite-on-gba-slots-it-doesnt-have-any/">Reminder: The DSi is lite on GBA slots (it doesn't have any!)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 02 Oct 2008 15:30:00 EST. With all of the oooh-ing and ahhh-ing we've done at the recent <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/02/nintendo-announces-nintendo-dsi/">announcement of the DSi</a>, we are bummed about one thing: the GBA slot being no more. We like GBA games. They're cheap and fun! But, is it worth losing the GBA slot for all of the other goodies on offer? What do you think of the GBA slot going the way of the dodo bird?<br /><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/02/ds-daily-sad-to-see-the-gba-slot-go/">DS Daily: Sad to see the GBA slot go?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 02 Oct 2008 09:00:00 EST. The <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/nintendo-channel">Nintendo Channel</a> updated with fresh videos today, most important of which is a gameplay video showing off Nintendo's new WiiWare title, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/29/retail-and-download-releases-for-the-week-of-september-29th/"><em>Art Style: Orbient</em></a>. Our own JC noted that the title looked a lot like <em>Orbital</em>, a Bit Generations game for the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/category/gba">GBA</a>. Sure enough, it is!<br />
<br />
Head past the break for some gameplay footage of Nintendo's new game.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/29/what-is-art-style-orbient-watch-and-find-out/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>What is Art Style: Orbient? It's been awhile since we thought about our dearly departed friend, the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/category/gba">GBA</a>. It burst on the scene and gave us an amazing <em>Castlevania </em>game, then got itself redesigned to the awesome GBA SP you see above you, complete with brighter screen and awesome clamshell design. Then we got the ... GBA Micro.<br /><br />What fond memories do you have of your GBA? What was your favorite GBA game to play? What model did you have? Did you hold onto it after you upgraded to a DS?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/10/ds-daily-remembering-our-old-friend-the-gba/">DS Daily: Remembering our old friend, the GBA</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 10 Sep 2008 09:00:00 EST. If so, it may help determine how you feel about the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/29/new-tilt-controlled-tony-hawk-game-revealed/">latest</a> handheld Tony Hawk title, which will include an accelerometer add-on for the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/29/tilt-controlled-tony-hawks-motion-revealed-for-ds/">GBA slot</a>. We don't know much else about <em>Tony Hawk's Motion</em> other than a) it's a skateboarding game (mostly) and b) there'll be tilt controls. Having played the aforementioned Wii game, however, <em>this</em> blogger, at least, is somewhat intrigued. How are you feeling? Did you play <em>Downhill Jam</em>, and does that make a difference? <br /><br />It must be said that I skipped <em>Proving Ground</em>, but did have a blast with <em>Downhill Jam</em>, though I didn't think I would, at all.<br /><br />

You would think DS, no? That's exactly what we thought, as the handheld is home to more amazing third-party games than any other console in recent memory, but that is not the case. It turns out, the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/snes">SNES</a> was the best Nintendo console for third-party publishers. Who would've known?<br /><br />Keep in mind, though, that this is merely based on Aeropause's own evaluation and may not be representative of how much money publishers made on each system, or the quality of the titles they released on said platform. It's more or less based on an article in the latest Nintendo Power where the staff ranked their top 20 games for each Nintendo system.<br /><br />What do you all think? Which Nintendo system had the greatest batch of stellar third-party titles in your eyes? We're going to stick with DS. It seems like a no-brainer to us.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/29/which-nintendo-system-favored-third-party-publishers-the-most/">Which Nintendo system favored third-party publishers the most?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 29 Jul 2008 18:00:00 EST. Aside from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/22/wii-fanboy-review-toki-tori/">the game's recent release on WiiWare</a>, it was also available on the Game Boy Color. They also did a game on the GBA called <em>Three Tribes</em>.<br />
<br />
But, we digress. This new title, which is nothing more than some concept art right now, promises "<span style="margin-top: -10px;" id="project-detail-content">a unique gameplay experience" in an on-rail shooter. Two Tribes also says that the controls will be accessible, as </span>"a<span style="margin-top: -10px;" id="project-detail-content">verage players will be able to complete the game while seasoned players will be motivated to go for higher scores and completion rates."</span><br />

<br />Two <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gba">Game Boy Advance</a> games have randomly appeared in the Stars Catalogue, leading us to surmise that Nintendo has been spring-cleaning its warehouses and found a bunch of old, unsold stock. <em>Kirby &amp; The Amazing Mirror</em> and <em>Mario Power Tennis</em> are both decent purchases, we suppose, even if the price (5000 Stars each) is steep (you'd need to buy <em>at least</em> 20 DS games to amass that many Stars). We're still waiting on the warehouse with all the sealed Super Famicom consoles to get cleared out (it <em>must</em> exist somewhere).<br /><br />Some other new tat has also been added, including a Pok&eacute;mon sports bag, and three further items that have (inexplicably) sold out: a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/28/rabbids-to-return-to-ds-may-even-get-noticed/"><em>Raving Rabbids</em></a> T-shirt, a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/25/ds-fanboy-review-pokemon-mystery-dungeon-2/"><em>Pok&eacute;mon Mystery Dungeon</em></a> bookmark, and a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/25/cosplay-in-just-minutes-a-day/"><em>Brain Training</em></a> pen. <div align="left">The poor <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com">PSP</a> has spent <em>most</em> of its life getting kicked in the teeth by the rampaging DS in all major regions; even taking into account its recent strong performance <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/another-week-in-japan">in Japan</a>, there's no doubt that Sony's machine has come in a firm second place. But look, here comes MTV's Stephen Totilo, and he's bearing good news for Sony executives everywhere: the PSP is the most popular handheld in New York City! Well, alright, on the New York City <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/26/promotional-consideration-underground-brain-training/"><em>subway</em></a>. Okay, on the New York subway's "<em>C Train</em>". Hey, the little victories count as well!<br /><br />Totilo reached this summary through the simplest, most non-scientific method ever: over the course of a year, he mentally tallied up how many of each handheld he saw played on the subway, and eventually counted 67 PSPs, 44 DSes, 6 Game Boy Advances, and 0 <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gizmondo">Gizmondos</a>. While he treats his findings light-heartedly (as you should), Totilo concludes that this preference for the PSP is due to the typical subway commuter being older and having a higher disposable income and being on the same subway train as Stephen Totilo.<br /><br />It's a very specific survey.</div>

<br /><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/28/rhythm-tengoku-gold-stafy-announced-fire-emblem-dated/">Yesterday</a>, Nintendo's updated Japanese release schedule revealed that <em>Rhythm Tengoku</em> would be bringing its daft-as-a-brush brand of barmy exuberance to the DS, under the guise of <em>Rhythm Tengoku Gold</em>. Consequently, our dreams last night were filled with dancing monkeys, robotic samurai, and onions with hairy faces in dire need of a good <em>plucking</em>.<br /><br />Today, we awoke to this: a <em>Rhythm Tengoku Gold </em>fact sheet, featuring the same WarioWare-esque art that characterized the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gba">GBA</a> game, and the first screens from the DS edition -- you can rhythmically tap your way past the jump for a fuller, bigger version.<br /><br />Incidentally, if you're wondering what all the fuss is about, it's <a href="http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-cm-49-en-70-1fhv.html">not too late</a> to catch up (though it is rather pricey).<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/29/first-tiny-rhythm-tengoku-media/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>First tiny Rhythm Tengoku media</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/29/first-tiny-rhythm-tengoku-media/">First tiny Rhythm Tengoku media</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 29 May 2008 13:15:00 EST. While we all think it would be <em>totally rad</em> if Nintendo issued either another redesigned DS model or a whole new handheld unit altogether, certain things must be considered first. Like, will it make Nintendo some money? Also, is there a demand? And, finally, is the DS as it is now outdated and no longer a viable option for the consumer?<br /><br />Let's look at the facts, folks:<br />
<ul>
    <li>The original Game Boy released in 1989 and saw several revisions, including a color change in 1995, a smaller system in the Game Boy Pocket in 1996, the Game Boy Light in 1997 and the Game Boy Color in 1998<br /></li>
    <li>The Game Boy Advance released in 2001 and saw 2 revisions before it was officially retired, with the Game Boy Advance SP releasing in 2003 and the Game Boy Advance Micro releasing in 2005<br /></li>
    <li>The original DS was released in 2004 and since has received one revision, in the DS Lite, which released in 2006<br /></li>
</ul>
But, this is not all that needs be considered. For one, the DS Lite is still selling incredibly well, and Nintendo might think to adopt the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" plan of attack on this one, choosing to sit back and let the thing sell as long as it possibly can. However, due to the lowering manufacturing costs and Nintendo's profit on each unit sold, a revision with newer features might be manufactured for the same, or a very similar, price. This would allow Nintendo to sell the new unit at a higher price than the DS Lite and make even more money on each handheld sold. There goes the answer to the first question.<br /><br />What about demand? Well, the demand for the existing DS Lite is there, but we'll be the first to tell you that, while we love the handheld , it's not perfect. Alterations in the best interest of the handheld may still be made, including generic improvements such as improving battery life and the like.If the people still love the DS Lite, we find little reason for them not to upgrade and froth at the mouth for something like a <em>DS Liter</em>.<br /><br />What about its use to the consumer? Does it still remain a great choice for the general consumer? Sure, but in technology years, the thing is like a Brontosauras with Jesus resting comfortably on top of it. What we're saying is, the thing is <em>old</em>. While its appeal may never go away thanks to the easy control scheme and mountains of amazing titles available for it, one cannot ignore the competition. As new features are released everyday for Sony's PSP system, the DS Lite is increasingly dwarfed by the technological wizardry capable with Sony's handheld. If Nintendo went with a new version of the DS, we'd like to see them implement some of the more standard technological features that exist in other handheld devices on the market.<br /><br />So will Nintendo release a revision to the DS? Sure, whether it's a new handheld entirely or a new DS, Nintendo would be crazy not to build on what they have with the DS Lite. Will we see it at E3 this year? This blogger thinks so, because, to be honest, what other megatons could they possibly drop on us?<br /><hr width="100%" size="2" />

Yeah, there aren't any Game Boy Advance games on the Virtual Console, and there probably won't be any time soon, but that's not important! This column is about games that should be on the Virtual Console, and this game<em> should be everywhere.<br /><br /></em>Treasure is known for producing super-hardcore action games, from frantic run-and-guns like <em>Alien Soldier </em>and <em>Gunstar Heroes</em> to clever shooters like <em>Ikaruga</em> and <em>Radiant Silvergun</em>. Between original releases, they sometimes take on licensed works, seemingly to pay the bills. One of their best games -- and possibly the best game on the GBA -- combines <em>all</em> of these aspects of Treasure's style. It might be slightly strange to say that a licensed game based on a kids' show is one of Treasure's best, but it absolutely is.<br /><br /><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/10/virtually-overlooked-astro-boy-omega-factor/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Virtually Overlooked: Astro Boy: Omega Factor</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/10/virtually-overlooked-astro-boy-omega-factor/">Virtually Overlooked: Astro Boy: Omega Factor</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 10 Apr 2008 21:00:00 EST. Instead, our reality would be dark and cold, our fear of what is right in front of us only challenged by our incredible lack of knowing <em>what is right in front of us</em>. It would probably lead us to suicide.<br /><br />But, lo and behold, the passage of time flowed in favor of Nintendo, as the Game Boy lead to the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/category/gba">Game Boy Advance</a> and the Game Boy Advance lead to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/31/micro-makes-list-of-worst-selling-handhelds/"><strike>that stupid Game Boy Micro thing</strike></a> the Game Boy Micro and then, finally, to the DS. But what about all of those great Game Boy games that time forgot?<br /><br />Well, now is the time to rustle up those nostalgic memories you have pattering around your noggin. The games are:<br />
<ul>
    <li><em>Rolan's Curse 2</em></li>
    <li><em>Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters</em></li>
    <li><em>Mole Mania</em></li>
    <li><em>Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge</em></li>
    <li><em>Mega Man V</em></li>
    <li><em>Kirby's Dreamland 2</em></li>
    <li><em>Super Mario Land 3: Wario Land<br /></em></li>
</ul>
Personally, we would've liked to see <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3RAd8ESffB8"><em>Street Fighter II</em></a> get some love (kidding!). What do you all think? What games do you like? What does this list need?<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://gonintendo.com/?p=38940">Go Nintendo</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/27/7-great-game-boy-games-that-got-the-shaft/">7 great Game Boy games that got the shaft?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 27 Mar 2008 18:00:00 EST. We referred to their bit Generations game <em>Digidrive</em> in that post, but it really takes a look at the game in motion to understand it. And even <em>that</em> probably won't fully explain it. Since we never got any of the <em>bit Generations</em> games in the U.S., this may be your first look at one of these abstract, experimental, <em>weird</em> GBA games. If you like what you see, you can <a href="http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-66-49-en-15-digidrive-70-1fi1.html">get the game for $10</a> right now at Play-Asia, along with <a href="http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-66-49-en-15-bit+generations-70-1fhy.html"><em>Dialhex</em></a> and <em><a href="http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-66-77-2-49-en-15-bit+generations-70-1fhx.html">Boundish</a>.</em><br /><br />We have enough trouble keeping Q-Games and <a href="http://www.qentertainment.com/english/english.html">Q? Entertainment</a> (Tetsuya Mizuguchi's company) separate in our minds. Q-Games doing a game like this <em>doesn't help.</em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/29/friday-video-generations/">Friday Video: Generations</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 29 Feb 2008 20:00:00 EST. It's the time for taking stock of the last 12 months of gaming, and trying to make sense of it by putting things in numerical order. We wouldn't have time for anything else! However, we did try to hit a wide variety of titles this year, from the biggies like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/01/pokemon-diamond-pearl-review/"><em>Pok&eacute;mon Diamond</em> and <em>Pearl</em></a> and <em>Phantom Hourglass</em>, to some smaller titles, like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/02/ds-fanboy-review-wordjong/"><em>WordJong</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/18/ds-fanboy-review-looney-tunes-duck-amuck/"><em>Duck Amuck</em></a>. We even worked to review some more off-the-wall things, like the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/23/ds-fanboy-review-nintendo-fan-network-ready-monday/">Nintendo Fan Network</a> at Safeco Field -- you know, in case you happened to find yourself in the Northwest with a hankering for a day of DS and baseball.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/28/the-best-and-worst-that-weve-reviewed/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The best and worst (that we've reviewed)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/28/the-best-and-worst-that-weve-reviewed/">The best and worst (that we've reviewed)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 28 Dec 2007 14:15:00 EST. WayForward certainly does -- the <em>Contra 4</em> developer spent two years producing the delightful Game Boy Color platformer, only to see it die a death at retail, its chances cruelly crushed by the increasing obsolescence of its host platform, as well as the rise of the newly released Game Boy Advance. Boasting an engrossing mix of <em>Metroid</em>-style puzzles and neat visual tricks, the game was an unsung gem that emphatically failed to register on the gaming public's radar.<br /><br />A sequel<em> was </em>planned for the Advance, only for the project to be inexplicably shelved with the game <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shantae#Sequel">50% complete</a>, but WayForward hasn't forgotten about the series entirely. With the all-conquering <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/19/ds-fanboy-review-contra-4/">Contra 4</a></em> now out on store shelves and begging to be <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/11/five-gifts-that-are-contra-4/">bought</a>, the developer has posted <a href="http://www.wayforward.com/index.php?option=com_facileforms&amp;act=run&amp;ff_name=shantae_fan_club">a poll</a> on its site, asking whether or not we'd be interested in purchasing a <em>Shantae</em> follow-up, and what platform we'd like it to appear on.<br /><br />Hence, we <em>implore</em> all of you to hit the link below and get your vote on. If you're still wavering about giving thirty seconds of your time to one of the best DS-related causes we've heard of in <em>ages</em>, go past the break for footage of the canned GBA title.<br /><br /><em>Then</em> go and get your vote on.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/24/a-ds-sequel-to-shantae-rests-in-our-hands/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>A DS sequel to Shantae rests in our hands</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/24/a-ds-sequel-to-shantae-rests-in-our-hands/">A DS sequel to Shantae rests in our hands</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 24 Dec 2007 09:45:00 EST. NeoGAFfer <a href="http://www.neogaf.com/forum/member.php?u=83">JoshuaJSlone</a> has devoted a <em>serious</em> amount of time to compiling weekly hardware <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/sales">sales</a> figures in Japan, as they appear in <em>Famitsu</em>. That sounds like a task of almost Sisyphean proportions, but it's not all thankless. This week, for instance, his legwork and <a href="http://joshuajamesslone.name/gamecharting/intermsof.php?system%5B0%5D=Wii&amp;date%5B0%5D=2006-11-27&amp;tracker%5B0%5D=fam&amp;system%5B1%5D=GCN&amp;date%5B1%5D=2001-09-10&amp;tracker%5B1%5D=fam&amp;system%5B2%5D=GBA&amp;date%5B2%5D=2001-03-19&amp;tracker%5B2%5D=fam&amp;system%5B3%5D=DS&amp;da">terrifying</a> table of numbers (mercifully translated into the graph above) threw up an interesting little factoid: lifetime sales of the Wii in Japan have now <em>surpassed</em> those of the GameCube. Which is darn impressive, considering the Wii has been in Japanese stores for just 54 weeks.<br /><br />Our new favorite NeoGAFfer also took the time to compare those first 54 weeks of the Wii's life with other<em> </em>consoles. Turns out the GBA needed only 40 weeks to reach where the Wii is now, and the DS an almost identical 53.7 weeks. What could have been in a world without Wii shortages, eh? Interestingly, the Wii is even outperforming the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/16/iwata-says-ps2-were-looking-at-you/">PlayStation 2</a>, which required approximately 66 weeks to reach the Wii's current total.<br /><br />For more graph-related tomfoolery, and to see how the <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com">PS3</a> is faring against the Wii (clue: it's not faring well, but let's not be <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/11/analyst-wii-still-in-lead-by-2011-ps3-close-behind/">complacent</a>), head past the break.<a href="http://www.neogaf.com/forum/member.php?u=83"><br /></a><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/13/wii-passes-lifetime-sales-of-gamecube-in-japan/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Wii passes lifetime sales of GameCube in Japan</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/13/wii-passes-lifetime-sales-of-gamecube-in-japan/">Wii passes lifetime sales of GameCube in Japan</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 13 Dec 2007 19:00:00 EST. A new glucose monitor targeted at children with Juvenile Diabetes hopes to entice its young users by <a href="http://hippocratech.org/2007/12/01/glucoboy/">doubling as a video game</a>. The <a href="http://www.glucoboy.com">GlucoBoy</a> tests small amounts of blood for glucose levels, just like a normal glucose self-diagnosis device. Upon plugging it into a Game Boy Advance or DS, however, GlucoBoy rewards players for routine glucose checks or having correct blood sugar levels by giving them points, which can be used to unlock mini-games on the cartridge.<br /><br />Interestingly, we originally reported about GlucoBoy <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2005/12/06/glucoboy-game-boy-glucose-meter/">way back in 2005</a>, with Engadget having reported on it <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2004/10/26/glucoboy-brings-blood-sugar-monitoring-to-gameboy/">first in 2004</a>. Due to the device's small market, its inventor Paul Wessel has spent three years trying to get approval from Nintendo to produce the device. GlucoBoy launched in Australia on World Diabetes Day, with plans to bring the glucose-testing device to more regions soon.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.next-gen.biz/index.php?option=com_content&amp;task=view&amp;id=8209&amp;Itemid=9">Next-Gen</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/06/glucoboy-turns-diabetes-blood-testing-into-a-game/">GlucoBoy turns diabetes blood-testing into a game</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 06 Dec 2007 06:55:00 EST. What with the holiday this week, it seemed fitting to show a little gratitude to you -- yes, you, over there, in the back -- by offering up a pack of games for the grabbing. One lucky DS Fanboy reader can take home <em>Crash of the Titans </em>($29.99<em>)</em> and <em>The Legend of Spyro: The Eternal Night</em> ($29.99) for the DS, as well as our beloved GBA version of <em>The Legend of Spyro: The Eternal Night</em> ($19.99), for you to cherish (and compare to the DS title). In order to win, all you have to do is leave a comment on this post about giving thanks between now and next Monday, the 26th of November. The contest will end that day at 11:59 PM EST, so get cracking! You can only enter once per day, and as usual, the contest is limited to U.S. citizens over the age of 18. We'll announce the winner on Tuesday, November 27 -- and it could be you!<br /><br />Don't forget to check out the <a href="http://www.weblogsinc.com/weblogs-giveaways-official-rules/">official rules</a> if you have questions.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/21/ds-fanswag-give-thanks-with-this-three-pack/">DS Fanswag: Give thanks with this three-pack!</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 21 Nov 2007 15:40:00 EST. There are plenty of GBA games we never picked up but would like to, including ... well, a bunch of stuff. Embarrassingly, we never got the <em>Mario Advance</em> games (because we have multiple versions of all the Mario games already). We'd definitely consider those at the right price, for portability alone. We'd also be likely to buy every copy of<em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/05/virtually-overlooked-river-city-ransom-ex/">River City Ransom EX</a></em> we saw and distribute them to anyone nearby, possibly by throwing them from a parade float. <br /><br />What about you? What does your collection need? Are there any GBA games you want, but have yet to get? If so, are you planning on checking out the (potentially) newly-price-dropped stock?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/06/ds-daily-filling-out-the-gba-collection/">DS Daily: Filling out the GBA collection</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 06 Nov 2007 09:00:00 EST. Nintendo's Chinese operation, iQue, has released some <em>very</em> cool <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Gba/">Game Boy Advance</a> SP systems that may make you rethink your need for an SP <em>and</em> your impression of the Chinese gaming market, where you can apparently get <em>very cool</em> systems that <em>aren't</em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/13/vii-would-like-to-play-alacrity-golf/">hilarious knockoffs</a>.<br /><br />While it's possible these are <em>old</em>, we have a suspicion that the <a href="http://www.ique.com/M_SP_dog.htm">Year of the Dog system</a> is recent as of this year, at least. There's also a two-tone <a href="http://www.ique.com/M_SP_mario20th.htm">Mario edition</a>, and a <em>very</em> cool dragon system that uses the black/red case design from the <a href="http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-1b-77-4-49-en-15-boktai-70-2fi.html"><em>Boktai</em> GBA</a>. Some of these are available <a href="http://gamechoiceclub.com/search.asp?category=iQue&amp;subcategory=Handheld">online</a> at <em>amazingly</em> high prices, so we're stuck playing games on our <em>stupid</em> DS Lites.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/2007/10/21/only-in-china-the-dragon-themed-game-boy-advance-sp/">Siliconera</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/22/its-the-year-of-the-game-boy-advance-sp/">It's the year of the ...
