In a <strike>heartwarming display of post-festive cheer</strike> bid to rid itself of excess stock, the <a href="http://www.reuters.com/article/businessNews/idUSTRE4AH7SQ20081118">troubled</a> Circuit City is offering savings on two <em>Guitar Hero</em> game/guitar bundles: <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-iii">Guitar Hero III</a> </em>and <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/23/full-track-list-for-guitar-hero-aerosmith-walks-this-way/">Guitar Hero: Aerosmith</a></em>, both for $47.99.</p>
<p><em>Alternatively</em>, if you're a grizzled, orange-button-happy <em>Guitar Hero</em> veteran whose home and life is being gradually consumed by plastic peripherals, Amazon is willing to sell you <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-world-tour">Guitar Hero World Tour</a></em> for $34.99 -- sans <em>another</em> instrument.</p>

Amazon is continuing their apparent campaign to get rid of overstocked Nyko <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/28/price-rollback-on-frontman-guitars/">Frontman</a> guitars with a new sale in their "Countdown to Black Friday." The savings are ridiculous. If you don't have a Wii <em>Guitar Hero</em> game and don't mind forgoing the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/17/dlc-limitations-mean-no-hendrix-for-guitar-hero-world-tour/"><em>World Tour</em></a> full band experience (or putting it off while building up a collection of guitars), you could do a lot worse.<br /><br />If you purchase a copy of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/07/charlie-daniels-guitar-hero-perverted-my-song/"><em>Guitar Hero III</em></a> or <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/23/full-track-list-for-guitar-hero-aerosmith-walks-this-way/"><em>Guitar Hero: Aerosmith</em></a> ($35 each) and add two Frontman guitars ($20 each) to your cart, $20 will be knocked off your order. So you end up with a game and two guitars for just a little more than the normal cost of a retail game.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/20/a-cheap-way-to-get-into-multiplayer-guitar-heroics/">A cheap way to get into multiplayer Guitar Heroics</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 20 Nov 2008 10:57:00 EST. Probably not for several months, but maybe you can do some shopping in anticipation of that -- especially (only) if you really like Aerosmith. Amazon's Deal of the Day knocks half the price off of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/aerosmith"><em>Guitar Hero: Aerosmith</em></a>, to a perfectly reasonable twenty bucks. The Xbox 360 version is also on sale, if you would prefer (though obviously we can't endorse such a decision!)<br /><br />This is the game only, and doesn't come with any guitars or anything, but provided the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_songs_in_Guitar_Hero:_Aerosmith">song list</a> meets with your approval, 41 new <em>Guitar Hero </em>tracks for $20 isn't bad at all. <br /><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/31/guitar-hero-aerosmith-at-a-crazy-amazin-price/">Guitar Hero: Aerosmith at a crazy, amazin' price</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 31 Oct 2008 10:50:00 EST. <div align="left">If you thought that 2008's triple-billing of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-aerosmith"><em>Guitar Hero: Aerosmith</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-on-tour"><em>Guitar Hero: On Tour</em></a> and the upcoming <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-world-tour"><em>Guitar Hero World Tour</em></a> was, well, a <em>lot </em>of <em>Guitar Hero</em> ... you ain't seen nuthin' yet. Activision-Blizzard revealed at an event for industry analysts that it intends to double the number of <em>Guitar Hero</em> SKUs (not necessarily unique games, just console-specific variations of "core" titles) in 2009. The goal is to triple them in 2010. Whammy bar!<br /><br />Considering that we had two console <em>Guitar Hero</em> titles this year, that would potentially mean four in 2009 (one being <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-metallica"><em>Guitar Hero: Metallica</em></a>) and six in 2010. That's not even counting handhelds. So ... are you ready to rock, a <em>lot</em>? Or is this all just way too much noise? Let us know in comments.</div>

Considering it came out in June, it's a little curious that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Activision/">Activision</a> is only now releasing a <a href="http://majornelson.com/archive/2008/09/08/demo-guitar-hero-aerosmith.aspx">demo</a> of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-aerosmith"><em>Guitar Hero: Aerosmith</em></a> to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/xblm">Xbox Live Marketplace</a>. Somehow, we get the feeling that pretty much anyone interested in <em>Guitar Hero: Aerosmith</em> already has it. If, somehow, you're interested in this game and have yet to try it out, go give it try. Oh, one last thing, the dashboard details are priceless: "Get a taste of Guitar Hero(R): Aerosmith - There's never been a band like them; there has never been a game like this." The whole point of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=Guitar%20Hero%20Aerosmith">Guitar Hero Aerosmith</a></em> is to give you a taste of what it would be like to be part of the seminal classic rock band. So, what would a taste<em> of a taste</em> of Aerosmith be (besides bitter with a hint of copper)? That's right: A demo for the game, now available on Xbox Live, including "Sweet Emotion," "Dream On," "Walk this Way" and others.<br /><br />Also on XBL is the demo for NBA Live 09, the taste of which we can't even begin to contemplate.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/08/dem-o-matic-guitar-hero-aerosmith-and-nba-live-09/">Dem-o-matic: Guitar Hero Aerosmith and NBA Live 09</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 08 Sep 2008 10:10:00 EST. Well, this should make the patented Joystiq <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/19/joystiqs-instrument-compatibility-matrix-v3-0/">Instrument Compatibility Matrix</a> a bit easier to memorize. Straight from our special Leipzig correspondent Jem Alexander, Activision says that If you play <em>Guitar Hero World Tour</em> on PS2, PS3 or 360, your instrument is going to work. Whether it be from <em>Rock Band</em>, <em>Rock Band 2</em> or whatever, it works with <em>Guitar Hero World Tour</em>.<br /><br />Now, what does this mean for the Wii version of the game? We have absolutely no idea. But hey, what are you complaining about: It's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/20/miis-used-in-guitar-hero-world-tour-on-wii/">got Miis in it</a>! Rhythm games have certainly been keeping the tempo up for financial growth in the industry. <a href="http://www.gamedaily.com/articles/news/music-video-games-account-for-32-of-industry-growth-in-08/?biz=1">GameDaily</a> notes UBS analyst Ben Schachter's report, showing "music-themed games" have made up 15% of software sales year-to-date and 32% year-over-year growth so far.<br /><br />The <em>Guitar Hero</em> franchise is already up 82% this year, with <em>Guitar Hero: On Tour</em> taking in $15 million in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/14/july-npd-everyone-sees-red-nintendo-still-on-top/">July alone</a>. Meanwhile, <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/rock-band"><em>Rock Band</em></a>, across all platforms, took in $47 million in July ... and that doesn't even count any DLC sales. Unless the rhythm game bubble bursts in the next few months, <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-world-tour">GH: World Tour</a></em> and <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/rock-band-2">Rock Band 2</a></em> sales -- along with their respective DLC sales -- could make up a significant portion of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/21/gamedailys-biggest-story-of-07-record-shattering-game-sales/">another record-breaking year</a> for the industry.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/18/rhythm-games-grow-industry-by-32-in-08/">Rhythm games grow industry by 32% in '08</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 18 Aug 2008 16:15:00 EST. Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick finds comments made by Warner Music -- saying it should be <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/07/warner-music-wants-more-money-for-licensed-songs/">paid more for the use of its music</a> in games like <em>Guitar Hero --</em> a little "one-sided." <a href="http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/cb6e2106-6a23-11dd-83e8-0000779fd18c.html?nclick_check=1">The Financial Times</a> reports that the Blizzavision chief thinks comments made by Warner Music's Edgar Bronfman don't take into account the "capital and resources" required to turn the song into something "fun to play."<br /><br />With the music industry <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/03/uk-retail-game-sales-surpass-music-industry/">taking a backseat</a> to the games industry, it's not surprising to find record execs trying to figure out a way to squeeze more money out of a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/21/guitar-hero-franchise-passes-the-1b-mark/">billion-dollar franchise</a>. The thing is, though, that Activision's merger with Vivendi Games, connects it to Vivendi Universal, which owns Universal Music, the "world's largest music publisher." At the end of the day, Kotick can snap his fingers and never talk to Warner Music again, all the while <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/08/activision-enjoyed-2-9-billion-in-sales-last-year/">squeezing every last dollar</a> out of the <em>Guitar Hero</em> franchise until it stops being the soup du jour.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/15/actilizzard-ceo-finds-warner-musics-logic-on-music-licensing-o/">Actilizzard CEO finds Warner Music's logic on music licensing 'one-sided'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 15 Aug 2008 11:00:00 EST. <br />During E3 we spoke with third-party peripheral manufacturer <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/nyko">Nyko</a> about its line of FrontMan guitars and which games the different versions were compatible with. We did a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/16/nyko-guitar-compatibility-information/#comments">quick and dirty post on what we were told</a> during the <a href="http://e3-2008.joystiq.com/">E3 madness</a>, but Nyko just sent over the chart above, which, admittedly, is much easier to understand.<br /><br />For first-party guitar compatibility, check out our <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/09/guitar-hero-rock-band-guitar-compatility-matrix-v2/">Guitar Hero / Rock Band guitar compatibility matrix v2</a>. Sure, we've been trying to get to the bottom of the inconsistent incompatibility between <em>Guitar Hero: Aerosmith</em> and non-<em>Guitar Hero</em> guitars for weeks. Some players who try to use, let's say, the <em>Rock Band</em> Stratocaster would be <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/30/dream-on-guitar-hero-aerosmith-wont-accept-rock-band-guitars/">greeted by the above screen</a> while other encountered <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/02/poll-does-guitar-hero-aerosmith-support-rock-band-guitars/">no problems at all</a>.<br /><br />Well, at least we're not going crazy: Activision told MTV News that "a recent auto-downloaded title update" to the Xbox 360 version of <em>GH: Aerosmith</em> "should" make that game compatible with other guitars, like the <em>Rock Band</em> Strats. Now, that wasn't so hard, was it Activision? (Also, you couldn't have just told <em>us</em> when we asked you fifty times earlier this month. Take into account the older guitars from <em>Guitar Hero II</em> and <em>III </em>as well as the original <em>Rock Band</em> and you're left with a confusing instrument compatibility mess. Our head hurts just thinking about it. But team Joystiq has done their best to make sure you understand which guitar peripherals work with which games, breaking down the information into a convenient <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/09/guitar-hero-rock-band-guitar-compatility-matrix-v2/"><em>Guitar Hero</em> / <em>Rock Band </em>guitar compatibility matrix </a>(version 2.0). Well, now what? After finding plenty of conflicting information as to whether or not the <em>Rock Band</em> Stratocaster works on the Xbox 360 version of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Guitar-Hero-Aerosmith/">Guitar Hero: Aerosmith</a></em> (including <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/02/poll-does-guitar-hero-aerosmith-support-rock-band-guitars/">a direct capture of it <em>not working</em></a>) we decided to ask you directly in the hopes we could arrive at some sort of answer. Instead, we've got this: 4.7% say it works while 5.6% say it doesn't (89.7% just wanted to play along at home).<br /><br />Now, considering how unscientific this methodology is, we're pretty sure our margin of error is in excess of 5%. Even if we were to consider the information accurate, we're still at a deadlock. Activision isn't talking (really, we've asked for a comment several times), so we're going to go with this: there are multiple versions of the <em>Rock Band </em>Stratocaster and some will work with <em>Guitar Hero: Aerosmith</em> and some won't. Really, that's the best we can come up with. Of course, this would be a whole lot easier if Activision would just agree to play nicely.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/08/gh-aerosmith-compatibility-poll-results-are-inconclusive/">GH: Aerosmith compatibility poll results are ... inconclusive</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 08 Jul 2008 21:28:00 EST. This week's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/30/wii-releases-this-week-guitar-hero-aerosmith-edition/">notable title</a> is none other than <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/30/rock-band-guitars-dont-play-nice-with-guitar-hero-aerosmith/"><em>Guitar Hero: Aerosmith</em></a>. With nothing else on the radar, we're wondering how many of you pounced on this one? Personally, we're not big Aerosmith fans, but that's just us.<br /><br />If you aren't playing that, then what's going to be spinning in your Wii? Alright, this is getting ridiculous. Activision has yet to respond to our requests for clarification, and anecdotal reports continue to contradict our finding that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/30/dream-on-guitar-hero-aerosmith-wont-accept-rock-band-guitars/">the <em>Rock Band</em> Stratocaster does not work with <em>Guitar Hero: Aerosmith</em></a> on the Xbox 360. If you'll consult our <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/24/tabulator-guitar-hero-rock-band-guitar-compatibility/">guitar compatibility matrix</a>, you'll find that incompatibility is par for the course, so we left it at that. But conflicting reports keep coming in.<br /><br />Our original tipster, who works for a rather large gaming magazine, tested all manner of guitars with <em>Guitar Hero: Aerosmith</em> but, alas, he was on an XDK - the Xbox 360 debug kit (and no, the above is not Photoshopped, it's a direct screen grab). Perhaps something, however unlikely, has changed from the reviewable code to the final retail code? Even then, we've gotten tips as recently as this morning claiming the <em>Rock Band</em> guitar <em>does not </em>work with the retail release of <em>Guitar Hero: Aerosmith</em>. Frankly, we can't keep track anymore so we'll do the next best thing: power of the masses. <br /><br /><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/02/poll-does-guitar-hero-aerosmith-support-rock-band-guitars/#poll16298">View Poll</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/02/poll-does-guitar-hero-aerosmith-support-rock-band-guitars/">Poll: Does Guitar Hero Aerosmith support Rock Band guitars?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 02 Jul 2008 14:58:00 EST. Think of it this way: <em>Guitar Hero: Aerosmith</em> is like Neversoft's version of former <em>Guitar Hero</em>-dev Harmonix's <em>Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s</em>. Old man Activision wants <em>Guitar Hero</em> twice a year, but there's only so much one dev team can do when they're hard at work on their own follow-up featuring a full band lineup.<br /><br />So, the same ... just remove the whole part about the dev team <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/09/22/mtv-snaps-up-guitar-hero-developer/">getting bought</a> and releasing that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Rock-Band/">follow-up</a> through Activision's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/EA/">biggest competitor</a> - oh, and the whole part about it being 2007 - and you've got an idea of where critics are putting <em>GH:A</em> on the fake-instrument rhythm game pantheon. Like Aerosmith? You probably already bought it. Don't like Aerosmith? Move along.<br />
<ul>
    <li><a href="http://ps3.ign.com/articles/885/885185p1.html">IGN</a> (76/100): "Even if the formula is a bit stale by now, that doesn't make Guitar Hero: Aerosmith a bad game. In fact, if you're a huge fan of the band, of the Guitar Hero franchise, or haven't yet seen what all of the fuss is over the music rhythm phenomenon, this release will please and then some. However, if you've been following the franchise since the beginning, you'll probably wonder if this game is really necessary."<br /></li>
    <li><a href="http://www.gamedaily.com/games/guitar-hero-aerosmith/playstation-3/game-reviews/review/6963/2077/">GameDaily</a> (70/100): "Aerosmith junkies will love Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, thanks to its impressive song list and extra content. Everyone else, however, should rent it. It's a pleasant diversion, providing single-player and multiplayer enjoyment for would-be strummers, but with missing songs and the same old gameplay, it doesn't have enough sweet emotion to justify its $59.99 price."<br /> </li>
    <li><a href="http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/puzzle/guitarheroaerosmith/review.html">GameSpot</a> (70/100): "If you like Aerosmith, you'll like this game. If you don't like Aerosmith, you will not like this game. Even dedicated fans of the group may have trouble rationalizing paying full price for just 41 songs, but while GH: Aerosmith is a little short on content, it's plenty of fun."<br /> </li>

Well, that race went down this past weekend where the <em>GH:Aerosmith</em> car finished in a very sad <a href="http://www.nascar.com/races/cup/2008/17/data/results_official.html">38th place</a>. Bummer. But thanks to loyal fanboy SToNeP2277 who attended the racing festivities, we received a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/guitar-hero-aerosmith-racecar/">few pictures</a> of not only the racecar prior to its losing finish, but also the promotional trailer and RV they had setup on the race grounds. Check out all the NASCAR pictures below and be sure to note the very glam <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/guitar-hero-aerosmith-racecar/893523//full/">red rope</a> they had setup.<br /><br /><br />[Thanks, SToNeP2277]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/01/photos-of-a-losing-guitar-hero-aerosmith-racecar/">Photos of a losing Guitar Hero: Aerosmith racecar</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 01 Jul 2008 15:45:00 EST. While the above image comes from the Xbox 360 port of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/23/full-track-list-for-guitar-hero-aerosmith-walks-this-way/"><em>Guitar Hero: Aerosmith</em></a>, we're fairly certain the same can be said of the Wii version of the game. In all likelihood, it doesn't play nice with your <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/rock-band">Rock Band</a> </em>guitar. But, considering how <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/05/rock-band-track-pack-no-replacement-for-dlc-available-july/">gimped <em>Rock Band </em>is for the Wii</a> (let's hope that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/30/rock-band-2-announced-wii-port-absent/"><em>Rock Band 2</em></a> is a more full-fledged port, like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/19/guitar-hero-world-tour-might-be-the-game-you-always-wanted/"><em>Guitar Hero: World Tour</em></a>), we're sure most of you are enjoying the game with your wireless Les Paul from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/05/this-might-be-the-best-guitar-hero-iii-player-ever/"><em>Guitar Hero III</em></a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/30/rock-band-guitars-dont-play-nice-with-guitar-hero-aerosmith/">Rock Band guitars don't play nice with Guitar Hero: Aerosmith</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 30 Jun 2008 23:00:00 EST. If you think watching someone else do yoga might be exciting, you'd be <em>wrong</em>. The most entertaining part is when Alyson says about the virtual male trainer, "I think I'll call it Brad. You're rad, Brad." Ironically, that's also that part that made us start sobbing, wondering <em>when it would end</em>.<br /><br />You can also watch "info" videos that promote <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/27/wrup-certainly-not-alone-in-the-dark-edition/"><em>Alone in the Dark</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/11/we-didnt-order-up-this-stale-video/"><em>Order Up!</em></a>, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/09/wii-fanboy-review-actionloop-twist/">Magnetica Twist</a></em>, and a number of other games. The highlight for us was watching <em>Wall-E</em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/21/were-falling-for-wall-e-the-gamecube-mod/">being adorable</a> in the <em>Wall-E</em> TV Spot, but that's not to say it made us want to buy the Wii title. It <em>did</em> make us want to go and see <em>Wall-E</em>, though.<br /><br />Here's the full list of the new videos on the Nintendo Channel, for you to check out at your leisure:<br />

The Activision peripheral tantrum continues, with the mega-publisher still refusing to allow <em>Rock Band</em> guitar peripherals to operate on its <em>Guitar Hero</em> games, including this week's <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Guitar-Hero-Aerosmith/">Guitar Hero: Aerosmith</a></em>. Despite reports to the contrary on a <a href="http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/genmessage.php?board=944963&amp;topic=43976107">couple</a> <a href="http://community.guitarhero.com/forums/53863/forum_topics/98042">forums</a>, when our friendly tipster attempted to use a <em>Rock Band</em> guitar on the Xbox 360 version of <em>GH: Aerosmith</em> he was greeted with the following error: "An unsupported guitar peripheral has been detected. Connect either a Guitar Hero guitar or Xbox 360 controller and press START to continue."<br /><br />Considering the <em>Rock Band</em> guitar never worked on any of the three new-gen consoles' releases of <em>Guitar Hero 3</em> (check our <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/24/tabulator-guitar-hero-rock-band-guitar-compatibility/">guitar compatibility matrix</a>), we're going to assume the same lack of functionality is present in not only the Xbox 360 release, but the PlayStation 3 and Wii releases of <em>GH: Aerosmith</em> as well. Let us know if you've tried it on either of those consoles.<br /><br />[Big thanks, Dan A.]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/30/dream-on-guitar-hero-aerosmith-wont-accept-rock-band-guitars/">Dream on! While there are technically two games coming out this week, there's really only one. You see, one of them is the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/28/contents-revealed-for-new-gears-of-war-edition/"><em>Gears of War</em> re-release</a> (which we thought came out <em>last </em>week). That's all well and good for the folks who have yet to pick up Epic's super gory and very playable shooter. Just remember to watch out for that host shotty. Strangely enough, the new game releasing this week isn't all that new either. It's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-aerosmith"><em>Guitar Hero: Aerosmith</em></a>, which is, you guessed it, <em>Guitar Hero </em>with a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/23/complete-guitar-hero-aerosmith-track-list-revealed/"><em>lot</em> of Aerosmith tracks</a>. Whether or not you regard that as a good thing is entirely up to you. One point in defense of Aerosmith: they did give us <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PFaBKg5iEwU">Alicia Silverstone</a>.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/30/new-games-this-week-guitar-hero-aerosmith-edition/">Joystiq</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/30/shipping-this-week-guitar-hero-latest-iteration-edition/">Shipping this week: Guitar Hero: Latest Iteration edition</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 30 Jun 2008 13:45:00 EST. Well, it's the end of an era. We've had a lot of fun over the last few months making fun of Aerosmith, both for their membership among the ranks of the walking undead and for passing mediocre music on an unsuspecting public for <em>decades</em>. But today we must report that, despite our most acerbic cursing into the blogging darkness, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Guitar-Hero-Aerosmith/">Guitar Hero Aerosmith</a></em> is, in fact, being released. You win this round, Tyler.<br /><br />So why are we featuring it? Well, you ever see that scene in <em>Hook</em> where Peter gives Hook the dignity of having his hair back, even though they're mortal enemies? It's sort of like that. ... And yes, the closest contender is <em>Purr Pals</em> on Wii. Little bit of column A, little bit of column B.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/guitar-hero-aerosmith-360/">Guitar Hero: Aerosmith (Xbox 360)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/guitar-hero-aerosmith-360/#832124"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/05/guitar-hero-aerosmith-(x360)---steven-at-half-time-show_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/guitar-hero-aerosmith-360/#832125"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/05/guitar-hero-aerosmith-(x360)---the-orpheum_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/guitar-hero-aerosmith-360/#832126"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/05/guitar-hero-aerosmith-(x360)---tom-at-the-orpheum_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/guitar-hero-aerosmith-360/#832127"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/05/guitar-hero-aerosmith-(x360)---half-time-show-performance_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/guitar-hero-aerosmith-360/#832128"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/05/guitar-hero-aerosmith-(x360)---joe-up-close_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/30/new-games-this-week-guitar-hero-aerosmith-edition/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>New games this week: Guitar Hero Aerosmith edition</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/30/new-games-this-week-guitar-hero-aerosmith-edition/">New games this week: Guitar Hero Aerosmith edition</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 30 Jun 2008 10:30:00 EST. For <em>Guitar Hero</em> junkies, we imagine it doesn't matter who exactly is on the cover of the game. The prospect of getting new songs to slap around a plastic guitar to is enough to get these fans frothing at the mouth. So, know that this week is going to be a good one if you fall into this group of people.<br /><br />Wii releases this week are:<br />
<ul>
    <li><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-aerosmith"><em>Guitar Hero: Aerosmith</em></a></li>

Earlier this month, <a href="http://nintendowiifanboy.com/tag/guitar-hero"><span style="font-style: italic;">Guitar Hero</span></a> and Aerosmith fans alike anxiously <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/02/joystiq-pushes-play-with-guitar-hero-aerosmith/">perused the partial track</a> list for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/07/checking-out-guitar-hero-aerosmith-in-action/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Guitar Hero: Aerosmith</span></a>, hoping to find some tunes worth faux-jamming too. Now there won't be any more speculating on what will and what won't be in the game, as the full forty-one song list was just revealed. Incidentally, our favorite tunes on it happen to be from bands that aren't Aerosmith.<br /><br />Were you hoping for "Mama Kin?" "Crazy?" Something else that didn't show up previously? Check past the break to see if the game delivers.<br /><br />

You probably know <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/02/sec-filing-reveals-further-flogging-of-the-guitar-hero-horse/">how we feel</a> about the direction that the <span style="font-style: italic;">Guitar Hero</span> franchise is headed in -- and some of you may even agree. But the time to put your money where your mouth is is almost upon us as <span style="font-style: italic;">Guitar Hero: Aerosmith</span> is ready to release very soon. We've got the full track list for your perusal after the break, so have a look and see what you think. Our thoughts? That's a whole lot of Aerosmith. For fans of the band this is no doubt a real treat, but for the rest of us, not so much. <br /><br />Sure, there's some non-Aerosmith stuff in there, but not really enough to get us interested. Why isn't this a DLC pack, again? Check out the full tracklist after the jump and let us know what you think in the comments.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/23/full-guitar-hero-aerosmith-tracklist-revealed/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Full Guitar Hero Aerosmith tracklist revealed</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/23/full-guitar-hero-aerosmith-tracklist-revealed/">Full Guitar Hero Aerosmith tracklist revealed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 23 Jun 2008 13:00:00 EST. That is until this morning when we were graced with the complete track listing thanks to Eurogamer and my oh my is there a lot of Aerosmith. Though, that was expected. You can browse all the musical goodness after the break where we've listed all the songs in their appropriate tiers including the bonus tracks.<br /><br />We have one giant complaint though, what happened to <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deep_Purple">Deep Purple</a> and <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_White_Stripes">The White Stripes</a>? They were both <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/26/gh-aerosmith-to-feature-kinks-cheap-trick-jett-and-more/">previously confirmed</a> way back when for inclusion in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-aerosmith"><em>GH:Aerosmith</em></a>. And, darnit, we want our promised The White Stripes! We're willing to trade in one of the 872 Aerosmith songs for our Stripes, get rid of "Nobody's Fault" or "Draw the Line", we don't care. Anything to get a track from The White Stripes ... humph!<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/23/full-track-list-from-guitar-hero-aerosmith-released/">Joystiq</a>]<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/23/complete-guitar-hero-aerosmith-track-list-revealed/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Complete Guitar Hero: Aerosmith track list revealed</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/23/complete-guitar-hero-aerosmith-track-list-revealed/">Complete Guitar Hero: Aerosmith track list revealed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 23 Jun 2008 13:00:00 EST. Despite most of us having a true distaste for zombie rockers Aerosmith, we've had a long-standing fear that we'd be tricked into buying <span style="font-style: italic;"></span><a style="font-style: italic;" href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Guitar-Hero-Aerosmith/">Guitar Hero Aerosmith</a> by a few non-Aerosmith tracks that we wouldn't be able to live without. Now, after we've seen the full track listing for the game, we're ashamed to admit that we're still on the fence.<br /><br /> We'll admit, the presence of Mott the Hoople and The Clash do make it significantly more tempting, as does the complete absence of "Don't Want to Miss a Thing," but we think about <em>all that Aerosmith</em> and we're right back at square one. Check out the full list after the break and let us know if you feel the same way.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/23/full-track-list-from-guitar-hero-aerosmith-released/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Full track list from Guitar Hero Aerosmith released</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/23/full-track-list-from-guitar-hero-aerosmith-released/">Full track list from Guitar Hero Aerosmith released</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 23 Jun 2008 10:55:00 EST. Our favorite part of professional stock car racing (and there are <em>so many</em> to choose from) is how through the magic of branding, cars become meeting places for totally rad, totally American iconography that really has no business being meshed. <br /><br />Take, for example, the above car, sponsored by Activision's <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Guitar-Hero-Aerosmith/">Guitar Hero Aerosmith</a></em> and ... Target. Finally, America's love for Steven Tyler's seething, Ben-Gay-slathered pseudo-sexuality can be melded with its love of value and flown on one giant fossil fuel-burning flag. God bless you marketing drones, you're the whole reason we're still getting out of bed.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/19/guitar-hero-aerosmith-sponsors-nascar-car/">Guitar Hero Aerosmith sponsors NASCAR ... car</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 19 Jun 2008 11:00:00 EST. Just look at it above, isn't she pretty? Dario will drive the <a href="http://www.boston.com/business/ticker/2008/06/see_aerosmith_a.html"><em>Guitar Hero</em> themed racecar</a> during the NASCAR Sprint Cup's New Hampshire Motor Speedway race on Sunday, June 29th. Hopefully Franchitti doesn't wreck his prettified car on Sunday, because we know Steven Tyler would NOT approve of damage done to anything sporting the Aerosmith name.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/18/guitar-hero-aerosmith-goes-fast-goes-nascar/">Guitar Hero: Aerosmith goes fast, goes NASCAR</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 18 Jun 2008 16:15:00 EST. The <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Nintendo-Channel/">Nintendo Channel</a> has received its weekly infusion of new videos. Sure, the weekly updates usually feature more videos than this, and the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/samba-de-amigo"><em>Samba de Amigo</em></a> trailer is actually one we've already seen, but there's interesting new stuff contained within. <em>Especially</em> if you want to see what <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/07/block-breaker-deluxe-breaks-out-onto-japanese-wiiware/"><em>Block Breaker Deluxe</em></a> looks like without having to buy the thing.<br /> <br />Aside from the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/16/vc-monday-madness-we-could-get-used-to-this/">WiiWare</a> videos, this week's update is entirely musical. The aforementioned <em>Samba de Amigo</em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/22/start-your-morning-on-a-high-note-samba-de-amigo-trailer/">trailer</a> is still enjoyable, and two other trailers focus on upcoming <em>Guitar Hero </em>games: the new DS iteration and the Aerosmith version. <br /><br />

<br />We're interested in the above video of <span style="font-style: italic;">Guitar Hero Aerosmith</span> because it shows what the game will be like when playing with other listed musicians. Unfortunately, it looks like you still have to look at Steven Tyler's scary avatar during songs featuring Aerosmith, like Run D.M.C.'s version of "Walk This Way."<br /><br />You'll also get a glimpse of three of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/02/joystiq-pushes-play-with-guitar-hero-aerosmith/">revealed tracks</a>, which we've heard are easier than their <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/05/this-might-be-the-best-guitar-hero-iii-player-ever/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Guitar Hero III</span></a> counterparts. What say you, <em>Guitar Hero</em> experts? Does the game look less difficult, or is it too hard to tell without knowing more setting details?<br /><br />

<font color="gray"><em></em></font><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-world-tour"><span style="font-style: italic;">Guitar Hero IV</span></a> is on its way, and with it are coming individual games themed around <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/02/guitar-hero-metallica-coming-before-q1-2009/">Metallica</a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/02/joystiq-hands-on-guitar-hero-aerosmith/">Aerosmith</a>, and others. This follows the strategy highlighted by Activision CEO Robert Kotick last year, in which the executive promised shareholders to fully "<a href="http://xbox360focus.com/2007/12/03/things-already-not-looking-good-for-activision-blizzard.aspx">exploit</a>" the company's franchises on an annual basis. The immediate response of gamers was almost exclusively negative, not least because the prospect has connotations of poor quality and high pricing. Although Activision may be the only company to announce its strategy so publicly, it's hardly the only adopting these kinds of tactics. If it irritates gamers so much, why do companies in the industry do this? And is it as bad as it seems?<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/06/counting-rupees-you-drink-their-milkshake/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Counting Rupees: You drink their milkshake</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/06/counting-rupees-you-drink-their-milkshake/">Counting Rupees: You drink their milkshake</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 06 Jun 2008 15:15:00 EST. Here's some news that's sure to strike a sour chord with the legions of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-3"><em>Guitar Hero III</em></a> owners worldwide. We've confirmed with Activision that <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-aerosmith"><em>Guitar Hero: Aerosmith</em></a> </em>will not allow users to access content for <em>GH3</em><em>.<br /><br /></em>It will also be impossible for those who've purchased only <em>Guitar Hero: Aerosmith</em> to access and download tracks currently available for <em>GH3</em>. For those with both games: prepare for disc-swapping. The carry-over of DLC into <em>Guitar Hero: Aerosmith</em> seemed like a real no-brainer; hopefully <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/neversoft">Neversoft</a> will take <em>Guitar Hero</em> fans' previous purchases into account while nailing down <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-world-tour">Guitar Hero World Tour</a></em> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-metallica"><em>Guitar Hero: Metallica</em>'</a>s feature sets.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/04/guitar-hero-aerosmith-wont-support-gh3-dlc/">Guitar Hero: Aerosmith won't support GH3 DLC</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 04 Jun 2008 17:00:00 EST. Want to know what songs to expect in <a href="http://nintendowiifanboy.com/tag/aerosmith"><em>Guitar Hero: Aerosmith</em></a>? Thanks to our <strike>useless</strike> hard-working friends at Joystiq, we can give you an idea of what to expect -- at least partially. Our <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">favorite all-encompassing video game blog</a> also got its hands on the upcoming game, essentially describing it as <a href="http://nintendowiifanboy.com/tag/guitar-hero-iii"><em>Guitar Hero III</em></a>, only with more Aerosmith. So, if you liked the third game or just enjoy songs like "Sweet Emotion," there's a good chance that you'll be swayed to pick this one up.<br /><br />As promised, there are also some non-Aerosmith songs to look forward to, although Steven Tyler and company dominate the playlist. To give you an idea of what to expect, fourteen of the twenty-five revealed tracks are Aerosmith songs.<br /><br />Click on past the break to see the partial list in its entirety, or just head on over to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/02/joystiq-hands-on-guitar-hero-aerosmith/">Joystiq</a>.<br /><br />

<span style="float: left; margin-right: 10px; margin-top: 7px;"> <iframe width="52" scrolling="no" height="80" frameborder="0" src="http://digg.com/tools/diggthis.php?u=http%3A//www.digg.com/gaming_news/Hands_on_with_Guitar_Hero_Aerosmith"> </iframe></span> Joystiq have posted their hands-on impressions with the latest in the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero"><em>Guitar Zero</em></a> franchise. From what they're saying, it seems peoples expectations might've been right on the money. <em>Guitar Hero Aerosmith</em> is <em>Guitar Hero III</em>, but with more Aerosmith. A lot more. Fourteen of the twenty-five tracks are by the eponymous band, with groups such as Joan Jett, Run DMC and The Clash making up the rest.<br /><br />The overarching question, when it comes to <em>GH: A</em>, is "why isn't this a DLC pack?" There's no real reason, other than Activision trying to stick their fingers where they're not wanted. Namely, inside your wallet. With standalone copies retailing between $50 and $60, not to mention the $99 peripheral bundle (same guitar as <em>GHIII</em>, with an Aerosmith faceplate) Activision will be raking in a lot more than they would from a DLC pack. Even with their famously high DLC prices.<br /><br />Check out the full <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/02/joystiq-hands-on-guitar-hero-aerosmith/">hands-on article</a> for more info, including a full track list for the game.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/02/joystiq-gets-some-hands-on-time-with-guitar-hero-aerosmith/">Joystiq gets some hands on time with Guitar Hero Aerosmith</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 02 Jun 2008 16:00:00 EST. The verdict: it's a lot like <em>Guitar Hero III</em> with a helluva lot more Aerosmith. There are new venues, some new characters, and other minor changes, but overall it's the same game (which isn't necessarily a bad thing).
