PS3 players already got a taste of Pottermore in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/wonderbook"><em>Wonderbook: Book of Spells</em></a>, which we found to be a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/12/03/wonderbook-book-of-spells-review/">moderately thrilling experience</a>, even for someone who isn't techically a "young adult" anymore.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/04/accio-harry-potter-fans-pottermore-lives-on-in-playstation-home/">Accio Harry Potter fans: Pottermore lives on in PlayStation Home</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 04 Apr 2013 01:00:00 EST. Each member has a profile and travels through the Harry Potter books in a series of active illustrations, collecting trinkets, learning more about the characters and events, and earning points for whichever house they are sorted into. There is a set of spell-casting and potion-concocting minigames that eventually lead to the House Cup celebration, where the house with the most points wins. Pottermore now has more than 4 million members worldwide, and yes, even as a woman in my mid-20s I think this whole thing is perfectly normal and necessary.<br /><br />When I learned there was <a href="http://insider.pottermore.com/2012/11/have-you-discovered-miranda-goshawks.html">a new badge</a> for finding Miranda Goshawk's <em>Book of Spells</em> in the Restricted Section on Pottermore, I was excited (again, totally normal). My heart pumped half a beat faster, my cheeks flushed and I <em>smiled</em>, for Merlin's sake. I was filled with joy at the prospect of uncovering secrets about a fictional book within the universe of an already fictional book, and I reveled in it. It wasn't until I discovered the tome, which played a quirky promo for Sony's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/wonderbook"><em>Wonderbook: Book of Spells</em></a>, that I finally understood how this related to my professional life.<br /><br />If I could be excited for <em>Book of Spells</em> within Pottermore, I should give the actual PlayStation Move game the same chance.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/wonderbook-book-of-spells/">Wonderbook: Book of Spells</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/wonderbook-book-of-spells/#5476690"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/12/book-of-spells-classroom_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/wonderbook-book-of-spells/#5476691"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/12/book-of-spells-cloudstheatre_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/wonderbook-book-of-spells/#5476692"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/12/book-of-spells-dragon_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/wonderbook-book-of-spells/#5476693"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/12/book-of-spells-incendio_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/wonderbook-book-of-spells/#5476694"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/12/book-of-spells-interacting_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/12/03/wonderbook-book-of-spells-review/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Wonderbook: Book of Spells review: Inter-house unity</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/12/03/wonderbook-book-of-spells-review/">Wonderbook: Book of Spells review: Inter-house unity</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 03 Dec 2012 12:00:00 EST. The "wizards" of Harry Potter would rather speak to one another by turning themselves into fireplace embers than using a phone, and they invented newspapers with moving pictures in them instead of learning how a TV works. We're pretty sure that Voldemort would run shrieking from a PlayStation 3.<br />
<br />
But <em>you</em> know how to wield a PS3's magic, so you can take advantage of this powerful Muggle artifact. Starting this week, you'll be able to buy a special PS3 bundle containing a 160GB PS3, a Blu-Ray of <em>Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2</em> in both 2D and 3D, and download vouchers for the first two <em>Harry Potter</em> movies. You'll also get 30 days of PlayStation Plus, meaning that some of the items in the PlayStation Store will suddenly be cheaper for you, as if by magic.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/15/say-hallow-to-the-new-harry-potter-ps3-bundle/">Say 'Hallow' to the new Harry Potter PS3 bundle</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 15 Nov 2011 12:00:00 EST. Last November, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/16/harry-potter-and-the-deathly-hallows-part-1-review/#review">our review</a> called the first <em>Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows</em> game a "failure on many, many levels." It ran down the various ways that the game didn't deliver: as a representation of the franchise, as a game, as a demonstration of Kinect and, finally, as an overall product.<br />
<br />
EA's proprietary engine, used to build <em>DH Part 2, </em>has been beefed up a bit, giving Harry and co. a bit more sheen than before, and the spell-switching has been streamlined to rely on face buttons to swap spells. Otherwise, it's still a pedestrian third-person shooter with a Harry Potter wrapper, with few meaningful ties to J.K. Rowling's series. (And the Kinect part is just <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/22/harry-potter-and-the-deathly-hallows-part-2-cuts-kinect-bewitc/">gone</a>).<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/harry-potter-and-the-deathly-hallows-part-2/">Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/harry-potter-and-the-deathly-hallows-part-2/#4240645"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/ginny_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/harry-potter-and-the-deathly-hallows-part-2/#4240646"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/harry_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/harry-potter-and-the-deathly-hallows-part-2/#4240647"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/hermione_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/harry-potter-and-the-deathly-hallows-part-2/#4240648"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/minerva_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/harry-potter-and-the-deathly-hallows-part-2/#4240651"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/molly_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/22/harry-potter-and-the-deathly-hallows-part-2-preview/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 preview: COGwarts</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/22/harry-potter-and-the-deathly-hallows-part-2-preview/">Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 preview: COGwarts</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 22 Jun 2011 17:00:00 EST. If you're as obsessed with the boy who lived as we are, this summer's final chapter in the Harry Potter film series is unlikely to sate your desire for British wizardry. Thankfully, Warner Bros. has announced that the next entry in the <em>Lego Harry Potter</em> series will arrive on pretty much anything that plays video games, sometime "this holiday."<br />
<br />
<em>Lego Harry Potter: Years 5-7</em> follows Harry and co. through the treacherous final years at Hogwarts, leading up to the seventh book's catastrophic conclusions. Interestingly, the game is one of a handful of announced games for Sony's forthcoming system, the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ngp">NGP</a> (in addition to the PSP -- they're going to live <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/12/yoshida-ngp-and-psp-will-co-exist/">alongside each other</a>, remember?)<br />
<br />
If <em>Lego HP</em> lives up to its promise of launching on all those consoles this holiday, it looks like North America is still set to be <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/27/sony-wants-ngp-out-in-at-least-one-territory-by-end-of-holiday/">one of the first</a> territories getting Sony's new handheld before year's end. Reps from WBIE hadn't gotten back to us as of publishing.<br />

If you can point to one attribute responsible for the worldwide success of the Harry Potter franchise, it's that it works on several levels. Whether you're an adult or child, softy or stoic, you're bound to find something in the books that speaks to you. <br />
<br />
In a twisted reflection, EA Bright Light's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/harry-potter-and-the-deathly-hallows-part-1"><em>Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1</em></a> manages to fail on many, many levels. No matter what you may be willing to forgive, rest assured, <em>Hallows</em> has already found several other ways to skirt competence.<br />

What would the appropriate spell be called? Financialus Maximus? Cashius Give-it-all-to-us? Look, we're not hip to this Harry Potter thing the kids are into, but with the latest Warner Bros. financial earnings showing <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/lego-harry-potter-years-1-4">Lego Harry Potter: Years 1 - 4</a> </em>has "shipped over 2.7 million units," we want in. The game launched on June 29 and received <a href="http://www.metacritic.com/search/process?sort=relevance&amp;termtype=all&amp;ts=lego+harry+potter&amp;ty=0&amp;button=search">favorable marks</a> across the board, even from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/02/review-lego-harry-potter-years-1-4/">yours truly</a>.<br />
<br />
Of course, it should be noted that "shipped" does not equal sold -- copies of the game could very well be sitting on store shelves right now. Regardless, don't expect you'll be seeing the last of these <em>Lego </em>games <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/03/lego-and-tt-games-sticking-together-through-2016/">anytime soon</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/04/lego-harry-potter-ships-over-2-7-million-units/">Lego Harry Potter ships over 2.7 million units</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 04 Aug 2010 18:20:00 EST. Of the many things that the non-muggles among us are capable of doing with magic, conjuring money unfortunately isn't on the list. The rest of us are in the same boat, and so even if <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/lego-harry-potter-years-1-4">Lego Harry Potter</a></em> only costs $30 at retail, we felt it best to give away <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/02/review-lego-harry-potter-years-1-4/">our review copy</a> of the game (same as retail) to <em>either</em> group of folks. <br />
<br />
For a chance to win that copy of <em>LHP</em>, all you have to do is tell us your favorite spell from the series. Wingardium Leviosa, perhaps? Crucio, maybe ... <em>you monster</em>? Tell us in the comments below in the next 24 hours and keep an eye on your email inbox!<br />
<ul>
    <li>Leave a comment telling us what your favorite spell from the <em>Harry Potter</em> franchise is.</li>

    <li>This entry period ends at <strong>7:01PM ET on Monday, July 12</strong>.</li>
    <li>At that time, we will randomly select one winner to receive a copy of <em>Lego Harry Potter</em> on Xbox 360 (ARV: $29.99) and various <em>Harry Potter</em> trinkets (ARV: $10).</li>

I spent a lot of this week wondering while playing (and enjoying) <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/lego-harry-potter-years-14">Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4</a></em>, "What in the world am I gonna tell our readers about this that they don't already know?"<br />
<br />
Considering it's the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Lego_video_games"><em>hojillionth</em> Lego game</a> to be released, what could I possibly impart about the latest iteration that isn't a variation on the "This is a great game for kids of all ages and for parents with Harry Potter-loving children" descriptor? Thankfully, the answer was more obvious than I could have hoped: It's just like <em>Metroid</em> with training wheels! ... And, you know, with Harry Potter instead of a space bounty hunter.<br />

Luckily for you, the wizards at Hogwarts have decided to share a quick magic lesson that will allow you to do just that starting June 7. Here's how you perform the spell, which, for complicated magical reasons, won't work until June 7:<br />
<ol>
    <li>Download the demo from Xbox Live</li>
    <li>Maybe say a magic word or gesture with a wand or something</li>
</ol>
The incantations and potion-brewing required to bring this demo into existence are somewhat more difficult for a PlayStation 3 and PC demo, so those versions won't be available until later in June. <br />
According to EA's announcement, players can expect a different, darker experience with the first <em>Deathly Hallows</em> game. "On the run with a horde of merciless enemies on their tail, players will find themselves in unknown territory, far from the safety of the school grounds, fighting for survival at every turn." <br />
<br />
Just for fun, developer EA Bright Light has thrown monsters from the previous films in with all the Death Eaters and Snatchers (no, not <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snatcher">those</a>) Harry has to deal with. And don't forget the thrill of controlling a slightly older Daniel Radcliffe avatar than in the last game.<br />

A brief aside: The scaly antagonist from the <em>Harry Potter</em> series would be a whole lot less intimidating if everyone just shortened his name to Mort, wouldn't he? That's not a name that inspires much fear, even when prefaced with "The Nefarious Dark Lord of All-Wizardkind."<br />
<br />
Check out the video above to see <a href="http://www.viddler.com/explore/Joystiq/videos/3456/">a brief vignette of clips</a> from the fourth and final school year featured in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/lego-harry-potter"><em>Lego Harry Potter</em></a>, which covers the events of <em>Goblet of Fire</em>. You know, the one with the Tri-Wizard Tournament, and Mad-Eye Moody, and all the thinly veiled lessons about the frightening changes puberty can visit upon teenagers. Yeah, <em>that</em> one.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/27/lego-harry-potter-trailer-shows-the-return-of-mort/">Lego Harry Potter trailer shows the return of 'Mort</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 27 May 2010 18:30:00 EST. The package includes the game disc (yes!) as well as behind-the-scenes featurettes about both the game and the <em>Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows</em> movie, plus a set of four "House Crest LEGO magnets." In addition, the Xbox 360 version of the game will include an exclusive Avatar item.<br />
<br />
The price for this bundle? $70, fully $20 over the cost of the standard edition. For our $20, we'd need substantially more LEGOs. Even if those House Crests are functional, interlocking LEGOs, we can't build anything out of <em>four</em> of them.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/21/lego-harry-potter-collectors-edition-magically-increases-the-pr/">LEGO Harry Potter Collector's Edition magically increases the price by $20</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 21 Apr 2010 00:00:00 EST. We're not certain that we are either, but TT Games certainly has high hopes that we'll get to that point before <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/lego-harry-potter">LEGO Harry Potter</a></em>'s delayed June release window arrives. <br />
<br />
The latest "Behind the Scenes" video (seen above) has employees from the UK-based developer detailing the enormous, immersive world that they've built (primarily out of LEGOs, as one might imagine). And though we might argue that we're not exactly looking for "immersive experiences" from our LEGO-based titles, well, it's pretty cute watching little LEGO Harry in action. Even "He Who Must Not Be Named" is kinda adorable with a cylinder head -- <em>how could we resist?!</em> <br />

While <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/lego-batman"><em>Lego Batman</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/lego-rock-band"><em>Lego Rock Band</em></a> have tempted me, I've always stuck with the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/batman-arkham-asylum">regular</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/rock-band-2">versions</a> of those games rather than diving into any block-based variations. Nevertheless, I previewed <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/tt-games">TT Games'</a> latest <em>Lego</em> outing, <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/lego-harry-potter-years-1-4"><em>Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4</em></a>, with an open mind -- I have read and liked the <em>Harry Potter</em> books and seen and enjoyed most of the movies. Maybe actually seeing Lego Hogwarts in action would win me over.<br />

Whether it's the books or the movies, the kids want to know what's going down at the Hogwarts, whereas we were more concerned with what was going down at the F.A.O. Schwartz in our younger years. That <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5grOmPlO1Qg">keyboard from <em>Big</em></a>? We were all about it.<br />
<br />
That's why the above trailer is so hard to understand for us. Of course, the classic Traveler's Tales stamp of charismatic plastic dudes and dudettes is there and easily recognizable, but we're just not up on that <em>Potter</em> tip. We lack the info. Good thing <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/lego-harry-potter"><em>Lego Harry Potter</em></a> is a crash course on the up-and-coming wizard's first four years at that crazy school, right?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/29/lego-harry-potter-trailer-is-sirius-business/">Lego Harry Potter trailer is Sirius business</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 29 Mar 2010 19:03:00 EST. Thanks to today's EA earnings report (EArnings?) we're starting to get an idea of how the company's holiday season is going to shape up. This is all subject to change, of course, but as of right now it would appear you can look forward to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/crysis-2"><em>Crysis 2</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/nba-jam"><em>NBA Jam</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ea-sports-mma"><em>EA Sports MMA</em></a> sometime between October and December of 2010.<br />
<br />
Filling out the holiday quarter are some yet-to-be-formally-announced titles like <em>The Sims 3</em> on consoles, a new <em>Need For Speed </em>game (perhaps the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/10/report-battlefield-3-criterion-developed-need-for-speed-underw/">Criterion-developed one</a>?) and a new <em>Harry Potter </em>game (likely tied to this November's <em>Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I)</em>. Want to come up with your own wild speculation? Peruse <a href="http://investor.ea.com/releasedetail.cfm?ReleaseID=443622">the list here</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/08/crysis-2-sims-3-on-consoles-nba-jam-due-holiday-2010/">Crysis 2, Sims 3 on consoles, NBA Jam due Holiday 2010</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 08 Feb 2010 17:25:00 EST. The boy who lived will make his brick-tacular debut when <em>Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4</em> rides a broomstick to every major gaming platform this May. It'll be interesting to see if the retail magic is there with the Hogwarts pupil, as it was for other mega-franchises like <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/lego-star-wars"><em>Star Wars</em></a>, <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/lego-indiana-jones"><em>Indiana Jones</em></a> and <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/lego-batman"><em>Batman</em></a>. <br />
<br />
<em>Lego Harry Potter</em> will apply the standard TT Games treatment to the series, dividing the first four movies (and rectangular objects known as books) into levels. If the idea of playing Quidditch with a flying plastic cube interests you, congratulations! You're the target audience for this game. Speaking of which, where's our <em>Lego Dune</em>?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/01/lego-harry-potter-building-a-magical-may-release/">Lego Harry Potter building a magical May release</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 01 Feb 2010 16:29:00 EST. The new trailer for <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/lego-harry-potter">Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4</a></em> takes these recurring tropes and adds them to the world of Hogwarts, Muggles, and He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named, sprinkling in iconic moments from the first four blockbuster books throughout. Without a release date for the game - and with the first half of the final <em>Harry Potter</em> film not hitting theaters until next November - we worry it might be awhile before we get our hands on this block-breaking version of Harry.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/09/new-lego-harry-potter-trailer-has-us-rowling-with-laughter/">New Lego Harry Potter trailer has us rowling with laughter</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 09 Dec 2009 17:00:00 EST. Having <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/19/ea-microsoft-marketing-vet-joins-ubisoft-uk/">left EA and joined Ubisoft</a>, Murray Pannell is finally getting out and about to promote Ubisoft's upcoming titles. One of its biggest is the tie-in to James Cameron's upcoming movie, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/avatar"><em>Avatar</em></a>. Pannell recently spoke about the IP to <a href="http://www.mcvuk.com/news/35244/3D-movie-Avatar-could-be-the-new-Harry-Potter">MCV</a>, commenting, "<em>Avatar</em> looks set to be a world-changing kind of cinema given its pedigree and elements like the 3D." Pannell also compared work on the game to his time spent working on the first <em>Harry Potter</em> game for EA, which he described as "an incredible entertainment phenomenon." <br /><br />Obviously, Ubisoft hopes to attain the same success with <em>Avatar</em> as EA did with the <em>Harry Potter</em> games, which have become a staple for the games giant. If that's going to happen, we have one suggestion: don't give James Cameron any <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/01/james-cameron-drops-avatar-game-details-everything-ever-about-t/">monologues</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/03/ubisoft-sees-avatar-as-world-changing-compares-to-harry-potte/">Ubisoft sees Avatar as 'world-changing,' compares to Harry Potter</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 03 Aug 2009 15:30:00 EST. Now that Nintendo has finally started chartering some flights to lovely Wuhu Island, folks have been eager to snap up <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/wii-sports-resort"><em>Wii Sports Resort</em></a> for their very own ticket. In the UK, <a href="http://www.chart-track.co.uk/index.jsp?c=p/software/uk/latest/index_test.jsp&amp;ct=110015">Chart Track</a> data shows the follow-up to 2006's console pack-in is quite the popular little piece of software, as the sequel earned the top spot on last week's All Formats chart. Strong start, but will it have the staying power of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/wii-fit"><em>Wii Fit</em></a>?<br /><br />Last week's winner, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/21/uk-chart-get-harry-potter-and-the-ea-games-of-popularity/"><em>Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince</em></a>, has thus been bumped down to the second spot, with EA's other darling, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Tiger-woods-pro-tour-10/"><em>Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10</em></a>, snagging bronze.<br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/27/uk-chart-get-tourists-flock-to-wii-sports-resort/">UK chart get: Tourists flock to Wii Sports Resort</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 27 Jul 2009 02:00:00 EST. EA has dominated the UK charts once again, as the publisher saw three of its titles grace the top five spots in the All Formats category last week. <a href="http://www.chart-track.co.uk/index.jsp?c=p/software/uk/latest/index_test.jsp&amp;ct=110015">Chart-Track</a> data shows that the one-two punch of a new <em>Harry Potter</em> movie in cinemas and a new game on store shelves was too potent a potion for UK customers to ignore, with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/30/three-new-harry-potter-videos-apparate-onto-the-web/"><em>Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince</em></a> shooting to the top spot.<br /><br />Harry and his Gryffindor chums were joined by <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Tiger-woods-pro-tour-10/"><em>Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10</em></a>, which dropped from the second spot all the way to third, and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/fight-night-round-4/"><em>Fight Night Round 4</em></a>, a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/06/fight-night-round-4-knocks-out-its-uk-chart-competitors/">previous top spotter</a> that has plummeted to fifth place. Rounding out the remainder of the top five were <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/transformers-revenge-of-the-fallen/"><em>Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen</em></a>, which rested comfortably in second, and <a href="http://nintendo.joystiq.com/tag/wii-fit"><em>Wii Fit</em></a>, which has dropped down to fourth.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/21/uk-chart-get-harry-potter-and-the-ea-games-of-popularity/">UK chart get: Harry Potter and the EA Games of Popularity</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 21 Jul 2009 04:15:00 EST. Warner Bros. didn't get the memo about <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/umd">UMD</a> and <em>death</em>, apparently, as <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/2009/07/15/harry-potter-temporarily-resurrects-umd-video/">Siliconera</a> reports the studio is set to offer the first five <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=harry+potter"><em>Harry Potter</em></a> films in one UMD package. This five-disc UMD bundle is hopping a broomstick and heading to Europe only, and likely won't see a huge run, because, uh, <em>common sense</em>. If you're a collector or have a Region 2 PSP, have at it, but if you've got the standard Region 1 PSP, know that you wouldn't be able to watch these if you bought 'em.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/16/harry-potter-briefly-resurrects-umd-with-new-boxset/">Harry Potter briefly resurrects UMD with new boxset</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 16 Jul 2009 15:15:00 EST. It surely comes as a shock to us all that the <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/harry-potter-and-the-half-blood-prince"><em>Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince</em></a> games will be available beginning June 30 for almost <em>every gaming device in our sad muggle world</em>! The game is releasing as an amuse-bouche (ap&eacute;ritif, for the drinkers) to the movie's staggered global release in July.<br /><br />The games will do what they can with the technology available to their respective systems. This includes wizard duels, taking potion classes, playing Quidditch, getting stud-muffin Ron some nookie and making Harry survive until the next movie tie-in game.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/14/feigned-shock-new-harry-potter-game-released-alongside-movie/">Feigned shock: New Harry Potter game released alongside movie</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 14 May 2009 10:15:00 EST. Throughout his life, actor <a href="http://www.dyspraxiausa.org/index.php/In-the-News.html">Daniel Radcliffe</a> has suffered from a "mild" form of <a href="http://www.dyspraxiausa.org/index.php/The-Facts-on-Dyspraxia.html">dyspraxia</a>, a developmental motor control impairment that affects not only physical coordination, but also learning. Radcliffe's dyspraxia is mostly limited to difficulty with small, precise tasks like writing or tying shoes. <br /><br />He didn't let his handicap stop him from looking enough like Harry Potter to start a successful acting career, and his success in dealing with the dyspraxia may be partially attributable to our old friend <em>video games.</em> "I played a lot of video games as a kid which really helped it," Radcliffe told <a href="http://www.thedailybeast.com/blogs-and-stories/2009-01-26/dirty-harry/full/">The Daily Beast</a>. "It basically surfaces as bad coordination." A <a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/no-lego-potter-in-09-says-source">Eurogamer</a> source claims that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/travellers-tales">Traveller's Tales</a> isn't making a <em>Lego Harry Potter</em> game this year. This follows <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/02/rumor-lego-harry-potter-in-the-works/">rumors</a> that a brickitized Potter title was in the works, courtesy of the folks behind <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/lego-star-wars"><em>Lego Star Wars</em></a> and <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/lego-indiana-jones"><em>Lego Indy</em></a>. Said rumor has been floating around ever since Warner Bros., which holds the wizard's movie rights, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/08/warner-bros-buys-tt-games/">bought TT in 2007</a>.<br /><br />The Eurogamer source also claims a new installment of <em>Lego Indiana Jones</em> is likely to arrive this year. At this point, we're willing to believe almost any franchise can be turned into a TT Lego game. Well, that <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/03/rumor-travellers-tales-working-on-lego-rock-band/">Lego Rock Band</a></em> rumor is still a bit weird.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/05/rumor-no-lego-harry-potter-in-09/">Rumor: No Lego Harry Potter in '09</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 05 Jan 2009 17:20:00 EST. We don't think we're being too controversial when we say that Harry Potter has never been at the center of a high-quality game. It would make sense then that, according to a <a href="http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=202831">CVG</a> report, The Boy Who Lived could be brickitized for a Lego adventure &agrave; la Batman and Indiana Jones. Heck, something has to work eventually, right?<br /><br />No further details were reported by CVG, but we imagine you can probably fill in the blanks yourself. Here's hoping the boy wizard works better in game form when he's two inches tall.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/02/rumor-lego-harry-potter-in-the-works/">Rumor: Lego Harry Potter in the works</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 02 Dec 2008 10:10:00 EST. The new video game based on the movie, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/16/e308-half-blood-prince-goodies-obliviate-memories-of-the-previo/">Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince</a>,</em><em> </em>won't be meeting the public this year and is instead set to play in your living room and on the big screen at your local theater during the summer of 2009. This could be a good thing for fans, as it will give developers plenty of time to add some polish to the title. And from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/02/harry-potter-paves-the-way-for-bartending-on-the-wii/">what we've already heard</a>, some things were shaping up nicely, so we're extra excited that the game will get some more TLC before it hits retail shelves everywhere.<br /><br />But, as good as this sounds to us (more time spent creating a game makes for a <em>better</em> game), it's not all peaches and creme for EA. The company projected that the game would bring in $120 million within its 2008 fiscal forecast. With the game being bumped back to 2009, it looks like EA will be relying on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/30/boom-blox-sales-stack-up/">your future <em>Boom Blox</em> money</a> a bit more.<br /><br />
<br /><br /><a href="http://investor.ea.com/phoenix.zhtml?c=88189&amp;p=irol-newsArticle&amp;ID=1194555&amp;highlight=">Source</a> - <em>Harry Potter </em>game gets delayed<br /><a href="http://investor.ea.com/phoenix.zhtml?c=88189&amp;p=irol-sec">Source</a> - Delay will cost EA quite a bit of money<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/09/latest-harry-potter-game-pushed-back-to-coincide-with-movie-wil/">Latest Harry Potter game pushed back to coincide with movie, will cost EA $120 million</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 09 Sep 2008 14:32:00 EST. <em>Profitus Reducto! </em>In an <a href="http://investor.ea.com/phoenix.zhtml?c=88189&amp;p=irol-sec">SEC filing</a> yesterday, Electronic Arts revealed exactly how much stock it put in the <em>Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince</em> game, which was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/08/next-harry-potter-game-pushed-back-to-coincide-with-film/">delayed until Summer 2009</a> alongside the movie (both were originally slated for November 2008): The publishing giant was expecting the Boy Wizard to pull in $120 million in revenue for this fiscal year. The filing offers no indication as to its new fiscal forecast for this year nor how much it now plans to profit from the game in its new release window of next Summer. As to the latter, we're guessing <em>oodles of monies</em> is still a proper metric.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.edge-online.com/news/harry-potter-delay-cost-ea-120m">Edge</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/09/harry-potter-delay-costs-ea-120m-this-year/">Harry Potter delay cost EA $120m this year</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 09 Sep 2008 10:00:00 EST. Much like taking a swim with a block of concrete tied to your feet, developing a video game that's inseparably linked to an impending blockbuster film can often lead to less than satisfactory results. Not only do creators face the challenge of converting two hours of overproduced non-interactivity into a considerably more engaging experience, they have to do it within a time limit that's much more conducive to synergy than quality. So, here comes your silver lining, Harry Potter fans.<br /><br />EA has <a href="http://investor.ea.com/phoenix.zhtml?c=88189&amp;p=irol-newsArticle&amp;ID=1194555&amp;highlight=">confirmed</a> that the delay of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/harry-potter"><em>Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince</em></a> applies to the coinciding video game as well, leading us to imagine the developers reveling in the gift of several more calendar pages, raining down upon them like confetti. <span class="modBodyTxt">"We're excited about the Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince video game in development and its high level of authenticity and playability," says EA Casual Studios</span> vice president Robert Nashak. A high level of playability? Boy, they really are going all out with this one.<br /><br /><em>Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince</em>, which, much like every other movie in the franchise is sure to be <em>the darkest one yet</em>, is out in Summer 2009.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/08/next-harry-potter-game-pushed-back-to-coincide-with-film/">Next Harry Potter game pushed back to coincide with film</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 08 Sep 2008 16:20:00 EST. Rowling's <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harry_Potter">uber-successful series of wizardly novels</a> received some heartbreaking news Friday -- <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sBGbKCm_pQQ">the film adaptation</a> of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=Harry%20Potter%20and%20the%20Half-Blood%20Prince">Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince</a></em> has been <a href="http://hollywoodinsider.ew.com/2008/08/news-flash-harr.html">delayed from its initial release date</a> of November 21, 2008 to a distant July 17, 2009. Electronic Arts has yet to announce how this major delay will affect the release window of their <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/23/brace-yourself-ea-is-making-harry-potter-and-the-half-blood-pri/">similarly titled video game adaptation</a> of the film/book, though many gaming industry analysts, such as Signal Hill's Todd Greenwald, <a href="http://www.edge-online.com/news/eas-potter-afflicted-by-movie-delay">are predicting that EA will follow suit</a>, with hopes that the film will whip up a <em>Half-Blood</em> frenzy that will boost sales of the game.<br /><br />The repercussions of a <em>Potter</em> game delay could be bad for Electronic Arts, as both their holiday profits and fiscal 2009 revenue could take a hit without the title -- however, it could mean good news for those waiting on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/06/harry-potter-and-the-half-blood-prince-and-the-debut-trailer/">a truly stellar <em>Harry Potter</em> video game</a>. Greenwald claims the title is "pretty much done and ready", meaning a delay would give EA an extra eight months to perfect the movie tie-in. We'll let you know what EA decides to do once they make an official statement.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/17/analyst-potter-movie-delay-could-push-back-release-of-eas-game/">Analyst: Potter movie delay could push back release of EA's game</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 17 Aug 2008 19:30:00 EST. <div align="left"> We're absolute suckers. We'll be the first ones to admit it. <br /><br />After <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/11/22/new-harry-potter-game-under-development/"><em>Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix</em></a> was, well, pretty terrible, we thought we'd shy away from the next game in the series. License-based drivel isn't exactly our favorite genre of video game, after all. Seeing video action (and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/15/e308-ea-if-its-in-the-game-its-in-these-galleries/">screens</a>) of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/02/harry-potter-paves-the-way-for-bartending-on-the-wii/"><em>Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince</em></a>, though, is just too much for fans like us to ignore. Especially since the books are over and done with (sniff sniff), we have to find <em>something</em> longer than a movie to hold onto the magic.<br /><br />What say you? Are we complete fools, or are you hoping for some improvements in <em>Half-Blood Prince</em> as well? (On second thought, maybe you shouldn't answer that one.)<br /> <br />
</div>
