The company picked up nearly all the assets in the auction, including Titan Quest, Supreme Commander, Frontlines, Stuntman, Juiced, Full Spectrum Warrior, Destroy All Humans and much more.

"First and foremost we are very happy about this deal which also turns over a new leaf for the entire Nordic Games Group. In the long term, we either want to cooperate with the original creators or best possible developers in order to work on sequels or additional content for these titles," said Nordic Games CEO Lars Wingefors. "A very important point for us is not to dash into several self-financed multi-million dollar projects right away, but rather to continue our in-depth analysis of all titles and carefully selecting different financing models for developing new instalments of acquired IPs."

The other reveal is 505 Games grabbed the rights to Drawn to Life and Drawn to Life: The Next Chapter for $300K.

The news follows this afternoon's unexpected acquisition of the Homeworld franchise by Gearbox Software. We now know the price tag for Gearbox to re-release the original games on digital distribution networks and take a swing at its own spin on the real-time strategy franchise was $1.35 million.

We've listed the winning bids in greater detail after the break.

Continue reading THQ auction results: Nordic Games takes Darksiders, Red Faction; 505 Games is Drawn to Life

THQ auction results: Nordic Games takes Darksiders, Red Faction; 505 Games is Drawn to Life originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 22 Apr 2013 18:04:00 EST. Even after garnering $58,644 through a successful Kickstarter campaign and $13,675 on Indiegogo, teamPixel recently announced that it failed to win the Homeworld IP during the auction process.

"We hope you will join us in supporting Homeworld's new owners in building a future for the franchise," the developer said in a Kickstarter update. "We anticipate an announcement of the new owner to be made within a couple weeks and for the sale to be finalized around mid-May."

Well into development on its own Homeworld-inspired strategy game, teamPixel will refund all money earned during its crowdfunding efforts while also offering donors a "special credit" in the game. The developer's "Save Homeworld" site has since transformed to a landing page for tracking donor refunds.

The final THQ auction is expected to earn $6 million to $7 million. First details of the bidding results are expected to be revealed Monday.
Crowdfunders fail to win Homeworld IP in THQ auction, issue refunds originally appeared on Joystiq on Sat, 20 Apr 2013 13:30:00 EST. The full list of properties up for sale, broken into six lots and posted in full after the break, also includes games like Destroy All Humans! and numerous licensed products.

Once interested bidders have gone through the proper channels, initial bids must be submitted by April 1, 2013, with final bids due on April 15. Once all bids have been submitted, THQ will talk the situation over with the various entities it owes money to and will then designate a primary and back-up bid for each lot. Once all that has been completed, the sales will be presented to the court for final approval, expected to take place in May.
Continue reading Darksiders, Homeworld, Red Faction and other IPs next on THQ auction

Darksiders, Homeworld, Red Faction and other IPs next on THQ auction originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 26 Feb 2013 20:15:00 EST. The team's goal is to bring Homeworld to GoG and Steam, launch a mobile version of the spacefaring RTS called Homeworld Touch and develop Homeworld 3. To be clear, teamPixel already began work on its own space RTS that is inspired by the Homeworld brand, so Homeworld Touch would become an "official version" of sorts, should the company manage to buy the IP.

The studio's lofty aspirations start with a significant crowd-funding goal: teamPixel hopes to raise $50,000 by Thursday, February 7 in order to acquire the property. This time last year, THQ snapped up the trademark for Relic's space-faring RTS, Homeworld. Now Eurogamer reports that, during a visit to Relic's offices, the dev was (quite badly) attempting to tease that Homeworld 3 is in development without actually saying, "It's in development."

When asked about the possibility of a new Homeworld, Dawn of War II design lead Jonny Ebbert told the site that, "We're really happy the IP has made its way home, and yeah, we're definitely looking at it." Ebbert continued, saying there's "always a chance" that the game is in development at the studio, adding that he is "very, very, very" excited about the idea of revealing it to the world. And ... it's just being looked into? Nice try, guys.
Relic teases Homeworld 3 development originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 24 Nov 2008 18:20:00 EST. The trademark information, initially uncovered by a forum user on fan site Relic News, has given rise to speculation regarding the space-faring franchise's return, though such an event would also necessitate THQ's licensing of Homeworld's intellectual property.

Add the fact that THQ owns Relic Entertainment, developer of the critically acclaimed 3D RTS (and last year's Company of Heroes), and you have enough to raise your hopes for a possible Homeworld 3. It's really been too long since we last escorted enormous, vaguely taco-shaped spaceships into the great beyond.
Homeworld trademark acquired by THQ originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 05 Nov 2007 20:03:00 EST. Are these really the ten hardest PC games ever? We cast a somewhat doubtful eye on Custom PC's list (replete with handy guides, walkthroughs, and cheat codes), but there are a ton of hard games that didn't make it on here. Is Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas really one of the hardest games in existence?

We remember playing Wing Commander III until our eyes bled, restarting level after level after level, and smacking our stupid sound card around until it made some sort of noise. Maybe there should be a "Hardest To Get Up And Running Smoothly" games list. But as far as hardest ... that's a tough list to make, and a lot of source material to draw from. Heck, some of those Infocom text games were pretty freakin' hard. Who else pulled their hair out during Zork II when the Wizard of Frobozz would suddenly appear and screw you over?

Anyhow, check out the list and see if you agree. They get some uber-bonus points for putting Syndicate: American Revolt on there, but c'mon ... Far Cry?
