With no other information or speculation on Lionhead's next title, aside from this multiplayer designer business, we're going to throw our best guess out there: A Team Fortress 2 clone that looks like Minecraft, plays like Call of Duty and is called "Half-Alive 3."
Lionhead seeks multiplayer level designer for game development, long walks on beach originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 14 May 2012 23:15:00 EST. According to a job notice recently discovered by superannuation, Maxis is currently hiring a development director to aid in the creation of "an unannounced next-generation Online simulation game." The job's prerequisites give a few hints about what the new project might entail, including requirements such as "shipped at least one online PC title" and "has shipped at least one game with an online financial model, including online stores and DLC's."

Regardless of which of Maxis' franchises this new title ends up within, it sounds like it'll be microtransaction-supported. Perhaps superannuation's hypothesis that it'll be a Facebook-based FarmVille competitor isn't too far off.
Maxis hiring development director for 'online simulation game' originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 14 Jul 2010 18:40:00 EST. Are you always a Johnny (or Julie)-on-the-Spot when one of your friends asks for help with a big cross-town move? You may be able to exercise those skills in a more profitable manner by applying for a position which just came open at Bungie: A "Personal Assistant/Gopher" who will tag along with the Studio Head, and "assist in the coordination of a major office relocation/move."

Which office is moving, and where are they moving to, you might be wondering? That's a great question -- one that's not answered by the fairly discrete hiring notice. We certainly hope Bungie hasn't decided to move in with Activision, however. We're sure they've got room for them, but ... well, it's far too early in the relationship to put that kind of pressure on either party. Not to mention the fact that they'd be living in sin.
Bungie hiring 'Personal Assistant/Gopher' to help with office relocation originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 14 May 2010 20:30:00 EST. Electronic Arts is on the hunt for an "established" Art Director to work on a "brand new" first-person shooter in the early stages of development. Under normal circumstances, we'd think this is a Medal of Honor job posting, but the listing says the director will head up "the best project we've ever worked on" -- so, well, that would need to be a really amazing genre-busting WWII shooter.

We really have no idea what the game is, but it's clear that it will have ... art. In need of direction. Yes.
EA LA seeks art director for 'best project' it's ever worked on originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 05 May 2009 09:45:00 EST. Ace Combat has always been a PlayStation series. Well, except for that last game, Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation, an Xbox 360 exclusive. Many have wondered why the PS3 hasn't seen its own Ace Combat game yet -- could Namco Bandai be working on one now?

A Japanese job listing is searching for a PS3 artist experienced in MAYA. This person will be responsible for creating the textures and models of jet fighters. The hiring company is not named, but the address listed is in the same area as many of Namco Bandai's Shinagawa offices.

We're hopeful that Namco Bandai will bring the Ace Combat series back to PlayStation fans. If not, then PS3 owners can -- at the very least -- take comfort in knowing that some Japanese company is making a "flight action game" for our system.

[Thanks, KATSU! It looks like Square Enix and Level-5 are making up for a long silence on the game, considering we're looking at more than two dozen (!!) new screenshots, and lots of new goodies for the title. In the recent screens, loads of new things were revealed: at least two new monsters were shown (Zucchinya and Moomon), as well as one, and maybe two new classes.

While we've only seen someone labeled Bodybuilder (possibly new?), the Traveling Performer (possibly minstrel) was officially revealed. Among the performer's abilities are acrobatics and making the monster laugh ... too hard to attack, we presume. If it laughs and then kicks your ass, it's not much help.

Traveling Performers would be restricted to one of the goofier faces, in a perfect world.
Crytek is known for cramming high-end graphics into titles that are just as capable to give your PC a hernia as they are to entertain. However, with the Crysis developer now done with PC exclusives, the company has adopted a new strategy, one that apparently includes the PSP.

A new job posting on the developer's official website notes that the company is currently seeking a PSP programmer with multiplatform experience to work out of its Budapest office, suggesting that Crytek's next project following the recently announced Crysis Warhead will target Sony's handheld. Of course, nothing is known about the developer's PSP agenda or whether that includes plans to somehow squeeze its CryEngine technology into a more bite-sized format. That leaves us wondering if we'll someday be playing Crysis on the go, or if Crytek has something entirely different up its high-def sleeves.
Crytek shows interest in PSP development originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 17 Jun 2008 09:31:00 EST.
Ever since it was officially announced, we've been impatiently waiting for Wii Ware to come along. As it turns out, many of you lovely readers seem to be excited too.

If you're a hands-on person, as opposed to froth-at-the-mouth people like ourselves, then why not consider getting into the Wii Ware production business? Now would be an ideal time considering that Sierra Online, a division of Vivendi Games, is looking for someone to produce the company's downloadable Wii titles. We wonder if this means that Sierra is bringing some adventure game goodness to our favorite console? The job will also include producing downloadable games for the PS3, PC, and Xbox 360.

Unfortunately, being excited about Wii Ware won't be enough to get you this job. First off, you have to live in the Los Angeles area. Then there's the little, itty bitty matter of having experience with this sort of thing. We suppose that those of us without any qualifications for this job will just have to bide our time and wait for Wii Ware to hit our consoles at home. We only hope that it won't be long before we can kill viruses, build countries, and pop bubbles.
Sierra Online looking for Wii Ware game producer originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 18 Oct 2007 18:00:00 EST. Those that have been following the development of Home should not find it surprising that the ambitious online program was delayed to next year. Troubling signs from the beta suggested that the project simply wasn't moving as quickly as it should. Even more telling, a quick look through Gamasutra reveals that there's still a crucial job opening specifically for Home has still been unfilled.

The Home Content Producer will be responsible for:

Developing content strategies for Home to achieve Home business objectives.

Coordinate development efforts of Home content.

Act as a liaison between first and third party game publishers/advertisers and external developers of Home content.

It appears that this is a serious position that is crucial to the development of Home. It's interesting to note that not only is Sony concerned about getting the service out to the masses, but is focused on getting third party content (including advertising) into the platform. Luckily, they're planning on sharing some of those tips with you* via the newly announced Mensetsu no Tatsujin: Tenshoku-Hen, aka Interview Master. The training title is designed to help improve interview skills to assist in those looking for a job or attempting to switch careers. After you select your field of choice, a myriad of practice questions are offered up to give you go-getters a chance to hone your skills.

Most job-seekers have experienced at least one less-than-good interview in their work careers. We've had a few, uh, memorable experiences ourselves. This is definitely a training title we could have used over the years. On the fun scale, however, bartender training sounds a little more interesting.

*Unfortunately, as with many training games, "you" is probably limited to those who can speak and read Japanese. Cue fist-shaking!
A training game we could all use originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 05 Sep 2007 17:23:00 EST. They hit the main points several times, which were as follows:

Have a professional looking resume.

Wear clean, washed (!) clothes to any meeting or interview.

Be on time.

Network. Network. Network.

Like any industry you hope to break into, it's often not what you know, but who you know. Although panelist Bryan Stratton did add that he had a friend who he helped get a job in the field, and he ended up making a lot less money than he should have because of his lack of a higher education. So put down the controllers from time to time and read a book, ftw ... er, paycheck.

Of particular note, one panelist mentioned that the two most important applications you can learn to help get a job in the industry are ... Microsoft Excel and email. Most of the time you are going to be coordinating assets and communicating with other people, so it's highly important that you know your way around a spreadsheet, and can organize your inbox and send/receive files and then know where they are.

So if you can pwn in Excel as well as you do in Gears of War, then you're well on your way.
SXSW: The Inside Scoop - how to get a job in the game industry originally appeared on Joystiq on Sun, 11 Mar 2007 22:51:00 EST. Armed with just a dream and a résumé, students try to launch their careers, and industry vets try to find the next opportunity. We checked in with a few of the companies to discuss their outlook and objectives at the show.

An EA recruiter told us that the company is hiring developers for 11 different studios in nearly every position, including character animators, environmental artists, and software engineers. EA has a university relations department to entice students, but the company also helps schools develop programs to train future industry workers.

Heidi Lese, Manager of Recruitment for THQ, discussed her company's role at the show. THQ is looking for both developers and publishers to fit into its 17 studios. With the addition of publishing roles, THQ is seeking nearly all kinds of talent. If a walk-in candidate fits an open position, THQ holds an immediate interview. Otherwise, THQ evaluates and contacts candidates over the next few months.

Lese was more tentative about game schools, saying that some are great and can lead to roles at THQ, while some are still too young to offer a useful program. She didn't specify any school recommendations but said that students should attend one with a high placement rate in the industry. She also advised students get an internship -- whether interested in publishing or development.
THQ, EA, others recruiting at GDC originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 09 Mar 2007 16:59:00 EST. Everyone's favorite overly-hyped-shooter-with-glitchy-aiming-mechanisms-and-unintuitive-combat seems to be gearing up for another go. Ubisoft's Paris division has posted a big digital "Help Wanted" ad on the internet, whose transcript shall be withheld to save the reader from silly BabelFish translation errors. In any case, it asks for a game designer for the "continuation of the Red Steel franchise". There is no direct confirmation that the sequel will be on the Wii, but come on. It's pretty damn obvious.

One must wonder if the world really wants this. If they can iron out the bugs, improve level design, and add more realistic melee combat, maybe they'll have a winner. If not, we'll always have Super Smash Bros. Brawl to fall back on, right?
Red Steel 2 semi-confirmed originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 29 Nov 2006 08:00:00 EST. The teaser trailer scores high marks for its beautiful art direction and suggestive physics, but then again, so did the trailer for Killzone 2.

Still, the game's lead designer (Arnt Jensen) has crunched his way around the game block a few times, so we shouldn't be so quick to assume that this won't eventually become a real game, graphs be damned.

In fact, we'll assume that this project will get done, and we'll encourage you to join the effort, if you can code C++. Good luck!

Game concept: Limbo originally appeared on Joystiq on Sat, 07 Oct 2006 11:51:00 EST. Over at Nintendo's job page, there are in fact job listings for both a "Shipping Agent" and a "Production Agent", both stationed at North Bend, that are essentially fancy names for "packers" and "people who watch over packers", respectively. Brett Favre could not be reached for comment. (Zing!)

Just a couple more days! According to these job listings, the studios are looking for programmers to take part in projects involving current and next-gen systems, including the Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, etc. Now, none of these three studios have committed to information on any current projects (although it should be noted that Terminal Reality implied they are working on some next-gen project, which would make sense since Demonik fell through), but are looking to get involved with the system and that's enough for us.
Three more developers looking to get in on the Wii originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 22 Aug 2006 15:30:00 EST.
