Which isn't to say that we're not also open to being surprised, though. The Oddworld series has been lacking a rhythm game for far too long.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/21/just-add-water-working-on-a-playstation-4-game/">Just Add Water working on a PlayStation 4 game</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 21 Feb 2013 17:00:00 EST. They'll track time in spent in the game overall and for each individual bounty.<br /><br />Developer Just Add Water is working on the patch now, <a href="http://expansivedlc.com/leaderboard-support-coming-to-strangers-wrath-vita/">Expansive DLC</a> reports, though there is currently no timetable for release, and the new build has yet to be submitted for certification.<br /><br /><span>The patch will also address a pair of problems that players have complained about: a flickering sky glitch and a lack of alternate controls. After the patch is issued, <em>Stranger's Wrath HD</em> will include an option to disable the PS Vita's rear touch-pad controls. When asked for comment, the rear touch-pad on our PS Vita replied, "Awwww man, really?"</span><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/31/oddworld-strangers-wrath-hd-getting-leaderboards-tweaked-cont/">Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath HD getting leaderboards, tweaked controls on PS Vita</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 31 Jan 2013 03:30:00 EST. Once the British company finishes up with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/oddworld-abes-oddysee-new-n-tasty/"><em>Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee New 'n' Tasty</em></a>, which is expected to launch sometime in Q4 of this year, its future is completely open.<br /><br />Oddworld Inhabitants has created a <a href="http://www.oddworld.com/2013/01/what-would-you-like-to-see-next/">public poll</a> to see which game fans would most like Just Add Water devote itself to next. The available choices include (but are not limited to) <em>Oddworld: The Hand of Odd</em>, <em>SligStorm</em>, <em>The Brutal Ballad of Fangus Klot</em>, <em>Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath 2</em>, an unnamed, completely new Oddworld property and even <em>Oddworld: Squeek's Oddysee</em>, which would be the first proper continuation of the pentalogy since <em>Munch's Oddysee</em> launched over a decade ago.<br /><br />Oddworld Inhabitants doesn't guarantee that the fans' ultimate choice will absolutely, positively be Just Add Water's selected project, but it's swell of them to ask.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/18/oddworld-dev-asks-which-game-you-want-next/">Oddworld dev asks which game you want next</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 18 Jan 2013 22:45:00 EST. The new PS Vita version of the game is <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2012/12/18/oddworld-strangers-wrath-hd-on-ps-vita-today/">now available for download</a> through PSN, for $15. Considering that there's only one other Tuesday in "late December," which is <em>Christmas Day</em>, we're pretty sure that's what they're talking about. <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/oddworld-munchs-oddysee-hd-12-14-12/">Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee HD (12/14/12)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/oddworld-munchs-oddysee-hd-12-14-12/#5501622"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/12/oddworld-munch-hd-08_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/oddworld-munchs-oddysee-hd-12-14-12/#5501615"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/12/oddworld-munch-hd-01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/oddworld-munchs-oddysee-hd-12-14-12/#5501616"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/12/oddworld-munch-hd-02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/oddworld-munchs-oddysee-hd-12-14-12/#5501617"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/12/oddworld-munch-hd-03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/oddworld-munchs-oddysee-hd-12-14-12/#5501618"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/12/oddworld-munch-hd-04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/12/14/oddworld-munchs-oddysee-hd-hops-onto-psn-this-month/">Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee HD hops onto PSN this month</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 14 Dec 2012 19:00:00 EST. Come December 18, that road will finally wind its way onto the PlayStation Vita, when the Oddworld shooter debuts on PSN for Sony's handheld.<br /><br />The news comes via developer <a href="https://twitter.com/jawltd/status/274610341336473601">Just Add Water's Twitter account</a>, which also addresses a few questions from fans. Firstly, <u>Stranger's Wrath HD</u> will not support cross play with the PS3 version, nor will it support cross buy. In other words, the PS versions will not interact with one another, and require separate purchases for each platform. As for a European release, the developer advises fans to ask about it again in a week.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/11/30/oddworld-strangers-wrath-hd-assaults-vita-december-18/">Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath HD assaults Vita December 18</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 30 Nov 2012 17:15:00 EST. Last month, Just Add Water <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/06/oddworld-strangers-wrath-hd-munchs-oddysee-hd-on-vita-soon/">asked fans</a> to come up with a new name for the 2.5D remake, and this weekend the British studio revealed the winning title in a <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bSdIGD5MpOM&amp;t=40m15s">Eurogamer Expo talk</a>. <em>New 'n' Tasty</em> is landing on Xbox Live Marketplace and PlayStation Network (for PS3 and Vita) late next year, and on PC later on.<br /><br />Just Add Water revealed that the 2009 re-releases of <em>Abe's Oddysee </em>and <em>Abe's Exodus</em> sold 750,000 units across PC, PS3, and Vita downloads. By those figures, the updated version of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oddworld:_Abe's_Oddysee">the 1997 classic</a> may be a popular item on XBLA and PSN menus in a year's time.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/oddworld-abe-s-oddysee-new-n-tasty/">Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee - New ‘n’ Tasty</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/oddworld-abe-s-oddysee-new-n-tasty/#5328808"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/10/bitsquidwin32release2012-09-2815-01-43-544_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/oddworld-abe-s-oddysee-new-n-tasty/#5328809"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/10/bitsquidwin32release2012-09-2815-04-21-098_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/oddworld-abe-s-oddysee-new-n-tasty/#5328810"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/10/bitsquidwin32release2012-09-2815-05-06-235_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/oddworld-abe-s-oddysee-new-n-tasty/#5328811"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/10/bitsquidwin32release2012-09-2815-57-49-210_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/oddworld-abe-s-oddysee-new-n-tasty/#5328812"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/10/bitsquidwin32release2012-09-2816-01-13-759_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/01/abes-oddysee-hd-now-new-n-tasty-coming-q4-2013/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Abe's Oddysee HD now New 'n' Tasty, coming Q4 2013</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/01/abes-oddysee-hd-now-new-n-tasty-coming-q4-2013/">Abe's Oddysee HD now New 'n' Tasty, coming Q4 2013</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 01 Oct 2012 11:00:00 EST. The game isn't even in the pre-alpha stages of development (according to Oddworld Inhabitant's <a href="http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=410734335630244&amp;set=a.176207019082978.28797.165852613451752&amp;type=1&amp;comment_id=893940&amp;offset=50&amp;total_comments=434">Facebook page</a>) but gazing at <a href="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/08/abescreenshot.jpg">the full-sized version</a> of this picture already has our hearts rhythmically chanting and possessing our wallets.<br /><br />Still no information on when the Oddworld update is expecting to be released, though we figure "not for a while" is a safe assumption on account the whole pre-pre-alpha thing. Now Oddworld Inhabitants' <a href="http://www.facebook.com/OfficialOddworld/">Facebook page</a> has offered an update: it's not just a remake. ... Well, okay, it's still <em>technically</em> a remake, but with enough effort behind it to also qualify as a "reboot." Are you still with us?<br /><br />Rather than updating the original <em>Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee</em> 2D artwork, Just Add Water will be using the original PSOne game "as a blueprint" for an HD remake built from scratch. We'll get our first taste of the game later this year, ahead of its planned launch in the summer of 2013.<br /><br /><strong>Update:</strong> It looks like studio coordinator Wil Bunce is doubtful the remake will launch Summer 2013. In <a href="http://www.oddworldforums.net/showthread.php?p=545167#post545167">a forum post</a>, he says that there's "not one person on the development team who thinks that's going to happen."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/11/oddworld-abes-oddysee-being-rebuilt-from-scratch-hd-remake-co/">Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee being rebuilt from scratch, HD remake coming next summer [update]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 11 Jun 2012 23:30:00 EST. Though Just Add Water has been in talks with Microsoft to publish the game itself, it sounds like the developer will be making some alternative accommodations.<br /><br />"We've basically run everything dry in terms of going some kind of first-party route with Microsoft, be it them publishing it or be it us publishing it ourselves," said Just Add Water CEO Stewart Gilray during <a href="http://www.vg247.com/2012/02/17/jaw-talking-to-two-or-three-third-parties-about-strangers-wrath-xbla/">an interview with VG247</a>. "So we're now having to go down the third-party route."<br /><br />The developer is in talks with "two or three" publishers and hopes to have more information to announce by Easter, although Gilray did not give specifics regarding which publishers may be interested in helping the cause. It's unclear how working through a third-party publisher will aid in resolving (or circumnavigating) the game's size issue, but we're glad to see that Just Add Water is still trying.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/02/18/just-add-water-talking-to-publishers-about-strangers-wrath-for/">Just Add Water talking to publishers about Stranger's Wrath for XBLA</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 18 Feb 2012 16:30:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/just-add-water">Just Add Water</a>, the developer responsible for bringing <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/oddworld-strangers-wrath-hd"><em>Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath</em></a> back to life in high definition, will be releasing its HD remake of <em>Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee</em> by the end of Q2, according to the dev's Twitter account.<br />
<br />
As our more crotchety readers will surely remember, <em>Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee</em> was a launch title for the original Xbox, as well as the second chapter in the tragically unfinished Oddworld pentalogy. At the moment, all we have is the announcement, a logo and a small image of Munch's updated character model (which you can see <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/14/oddworld-munchs-oddysee-hd-coming-q2-see-munchs-new-model/#continued">after the break</a>), but rest assured that we'll be on this like Sligs on a Mudokon.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/14/oddworld-munchs-oddysee-hd-coming-q2-see-munchs-new-model/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee HD coming Q2, see Munch's new model</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/14/oddworld-munchs-oddysee-hd-coming-q2-see-munchs-new-model/">Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee HD coming Q2, see Munch's new model</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 14 Jan 2012 12:00:00 EST. If you weren't overwhelmed by the glut of new games in 2011, there were plenty of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/deja-review">polished oldies</a> to keep you occupied -- and we'll have to make room for one more of those before 2012 sets up shop. <em>Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath HD</em> is coming to the European PSN on December 21, and to the US store on December 27.<br />
<br />
Headed by <em>Gravity Crash</em> developer Just Add Water, the <em>Stranger's Wrath</em> overhaul contains -- among other things -- upgraded character models, enriched environments, bug fixes, difficulty modifiers and even minor corrections to visual continuity. (Example: "Sekto's Office has been changed to more closely resemble that seen in the FMV.") You'll get all that for $14.99 (or &pound;9.99), alongside the stuff we loved back in 2005: unusual weaponry, off-beat characters and, err, not-so-subtle commentary on the ecological devastation wrought by rampant consumerism and corporate expansion. It's <em>Oddworld</em>.<br />
<br />
Just Add Water also announced via <a href="https://twitter.com/#!/jawltd/status/144454459425177602">Twitter</a> that the HD updates would come to the PC version of <em>Stranger's Wrath</em> within two to three months. The PlayStation 3 game will also get an update within a "couple months," adding the Move and 3D support that was planned but not implemented in time.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/07/oddworld-strangers-wrath-hd-reaches-psn-by-years-end/">Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath HD reaches PSN by year's end</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 07 Dec 2011 18:30:00 EST. While playing Oddworld's weirdo western is reward enough, <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/oddworld-strangers-wrath-hd"><em>Stranger's Wrath HD</em></a> wouldn't be considered a complete update without in-game gongs. Developer Just Add Water has posted a <a href="http://www.oddworld.com/?p=1015">list of the game's Trophies</a> and, as a pleasant bonus, a reminder that you get to foil the schemes of one "Fatty McBoomBoom."<br />
<br />
According to an Oddworld representative posting in the comments, these Trophies should also become available on the Steam version of <em>Stranger's Wrath</em>, and any subsequent platform that supports achievements.<br />
<br />
<em>Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath HD</em> is <a href="http://www.oddworld.com/?p=1015">complete</a>, according to the developers, and now awaits a final release date on PS3 and Vita. Talks with Microsoft regarding an Xbox 360 version are still ongoing.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/25/oddworld-strangers-wrath-hd-trophies-rounded-up/">Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath HD Trophies rounded up</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 25 Nov 2011 23:16:00 EST. Developer Just Add Water has finished work on the PS3 HD update of <em>Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath </em>... now it just needs to figure out a release date. The company says a release date should be announced "soon," and passed along a <a href="http://www.jawltd.com/?p=967">list of updates</a> it made from the original 2005 Xbox title.<br />
<br />
The list is pretty extensive, but some highlights include: updates to all 84 character models (including the live ammo), general environmental upgrades like reflective water, enhanced audio, and everything runs at 720P at 60FPS in widescreen.<br />
<br />
For those willing to wait for a portable version of the update, Just Add Water announced in June that <em>Stranger's Wrath</em> and <em>Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee</em> would <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/07/oddworld-strangers-wrath-and-munchs-oddysee-coming-to-playsta/">mosey on over to the PlayStation Vita</a>, complete with cross-platform cloud save functionality.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/17/oddworld-strangers-wrath-hd-complete-release-date-coming-soon/">Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath HD complete, release date coming soon</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 17 Nov 2011 10:45:00 EST. Assuming the PlayStation Store is up and running by then, Oddworld Inhabitants plans to release the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/oddworld-strangers-wrath">HD remake</a> of the fantasy-themed third-person shooter <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/oddworld-strangers-wrath"><em>Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath</em></a> on PS3 this summer. Other platforms weren't explicitly mentioned in the latest press release, but developer Just Add Water has previously <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/28/strangers-wrath-hd-dev-will-look-to-bring-ps3-update-to-pc-fo/">expressed interest</a> in patching the existing PC version with the PS3 remake's improvements.<br />
<br />
Oddworld Inhabitants also re-confirmed its intention to release <em>Munch's Oddysee</em> on PSN in the fall. Last month, it <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/28/just-add-water-reviving-oddworld-hand-of-odd-confirms-hd-remak/">pinpointed</a> the PS3 release of the Xbox launch title for October.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/25/oddworld-strangers-wrath-inhabits-ps3-this-summer/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath inhabits PS3 this summer</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/25/oddworld-strangers-wrath-inhabits-ps3-this-summer/">Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath inhabits PS3 this summer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 25 May 2011 14:13:00 EST. Back in the late '90s, Oddworld Inhabitants began work on a real-time strategy game taking place in the Oddworld universe titled <em>Oddworld: Hand of Odd</em>. Now developer Just Add Water is reviving the project for a slated 2012 launch, Eurogamer reports, making it one of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/09/strangers-wrath-hd-the-first-of-six-oddworld-projects-from-just/">many <em>Oddworld</em> titles currently in development</a> at the studio.<br />
<br />
JAW is working with the original design document from Oddworld Inhabitants, yet plans to update the title for a more "casual rather than more intense" gameplay experience, JAW CEO Stewart Gilray confirmed. It will be fully 3D, and even though JAW is only "looking at" platforms right now, strong front-runners include iPad, Android tablets, Facebook, PC and Mac. Just don't expect it on PS3 and Xbox 360, as it works best with "touchscreen interfaces or mouse control direct."<br />
<br />
Additionally, the developer has confirmed that it's also undertaking an HD remake of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=oddworld+munch%27s+oddysee&amp;invocationType=wl-joystiq"><em>Munch's Oddysee</em></a>. The game will be available on PS3 this October, coinciding with a PS3 Oddboxx bundle promotion containing all four <em>Oddworld</em> titles. An Xbox 360 release is currently up in the air, but if it does happen, JAW is hoping the Xbox 360 version will launch a month after the PS3 title.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/28/just-add-water-reviving-oddworld-hand-of-odd-confirms-hd-remak/">Just Add Water reviving Oddworld: Hand of Odd, confirms HD remake of Munch's Oddysee</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 28 Apr 2011 21:00:00 EST. As consumers scramble to deal with the ramifications (<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/26/sony-says-psn-intrusion-compromised-personal-info-hopes-to-ha/">identity theft!</a>) of the PlayStation Network breach and subsequent <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/psn-outage-2011/">outage</a>, PSN developers are struggling with anxieties of their own.<br />
<br />
"PSN being out definitely affects our bottom line," Q-Games Dylan Cuthbert told <a href="http://www.industrygamers.com/news/playstation-network-developer-outage-definitely-affects-our-bottom-line-exclusive/">IndustryGamers</a>, "but as long as the people who were going to be playing <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/pixeljunk-shooter-2"><em>Shooter 2</em></a> and other <em>PixelJunk</em> titles will get right back in there playing them when it comes back up, we'll be happy and hopefully income won't be dented too much." That could prove to be a <em>big</em> "but" -- Cuthbert's comments came before we knew PSN users' personal information had been stolen and consumer trust in Sony perhaps irrevocably damaged.<br />
<br />
Speaking to <a href="http://www.develop-online.net/news/37566/PSN-dev-Downtime-has-cost-us-thousands">Develop</a>, a UK-based developer, wishing to remain anonymous, observed that "people will be a bit more wary about using their credit card on PSN, so obviously we're nervous about sales."<br />
<br />
"There may be a lot of people who won't want to spend their money through PlayStation Network now," the same developer added. "We're expecting a 5-10 percent drop in business." The dev estimated that the studio has already lost "thousands" in expected revenue.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/27/psn-devs-offer-mixed-reactions-to-cost-of-outage/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>PSN devs offer mixed reactions to cost of outage</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/27/psn-devs-offer-mixed-reactions-to-cost-of-outage/">PSN devs offer mixed reactions to cost of outage</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 27 Apr 2011 13:05:00 EST. After news surfaced last summer that <em>Gravity Crash</em> developer Just Add Water is working on multiple Oddworld projects, we wondered just what the UK-based dev had up its sleeves. And while we already heard about remakes of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/03/oddworld-strangers-wrath-ps3-announced/"><em>Stranger's Wrath</em></a> headed for PlayStation 3 and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/29/oddworld-abes-oddysee-hd-remake-under-development-at-just-add/"><em>Abe's Oddyseey</em></a> for unknown platforms, a post on the company's <a href="http://www.jawltd.com/?page_id=690">official site</a> meant to solicit new talent also revealed that said talent "would be working on various Oddworld Inhabitants-based projects, with four to be released THIS year [their emphasis]."<br />
<br />
Given that we know of two other Oddworld titles getting remakes -- notably the first and the last of the series -- it stands to reason that <em>Abe's Exoddus</em> and <em>Munch's Oddysee</em> are also getting the HD treatment. Just Add Water is staying mum for now, though, instead choosing to tantalize us with vague blog posts. That said, don't go getting your hopes up for that long awaited new entry in the Oddworld series -- <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/25/new-oddworld-on-hold-old-oddworlds-coming-to-steam-this-year/">last we heard</a>, it was "on hold."<br />

Though the studio is still hard at work on its HD renovation of one installment of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/15/new-oddworld-games-in-the-works-at-just-add-water/">Oddworld Inhabitants</a> franchise, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/oddworld-strangers-wrath">Stranger's Wrath</a></em>, it seems Just Add Water already has a second remake underway. EGM <a href="http://apps.facebook.com/upitone/?controller=news&amp;op=view-news&amp;news_id=66682">recently teased an interview</a> (which will appear in its upcoming March 2011 issue) with series creator Lorne Lanning, in which he reveals, "<em>Abe HD</em> is going into production," later adding, "It's basically <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/oddworld-abes-oddysee">Abe's Oddysee</a></em> being redone in a 3D physics engine as a 2D side-scrolling platformer."<br />
<br />
Though pickings are slim in the EGM preview, Lanning did mention that the studio is "not trying to reinvent any wheels. It's like, 'Can we make that experience in a new engine, with new tech, in the old way?'" We bet you can, if you really put your mind to it. We've got our fingers crossed that more details about the <em>Odd</em> remake will surface in the full interview, when the new EGM hits newsstands next month.<br type="_moz" /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/29/oddworld-abes-oddysee-hd-remake-under-development-at-just-add/">Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee HD remake in development at Just Add Water</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 29 Jan 2011 16:00:00 EST. While we're no closer to learning if the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/03/oddworld-strangers-wrath-ps3-announced/">HD update</a> to the formerly Xbox-exclusive <em>Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath</em> will ever make it to Xbox Live Arcade - either it's got to shrink in size or Microsoft has to bump up that size limit ... again - developer Just Add Water is hinting at another platform that may see the "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/28/file-size-restriction-keeping-oddworld-strangers-wrath-from-xb/">NOT PS3-exclusive</a>" remake. JAW's Stewart Gilray took to the Steam forums to placate <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/10/oddboxx-bundle-priced-at-24-99/">Oddboxx</a> consumers angry about the inconsistency of the PC port of <em>Stranger's Wrath</em>.<br />
<br />
Porting the title from Xbox (and an Xbox-specific implementation of DirectX) to PC and OpenGL introduced a number of issues, which Gilray was eager to address. "From a personal note, to read these comments that the game is beyond broken hurts," he <a href="http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1668248">wrote in the forums</a>. "I am always incredibly paranoid about that work I/we do and am always self-critical, so please help us fix these issues by providing as much positive feedback as you can with system specs and detailed descriptions."<br />
<br />
As users turned in (generally angry) bug reports, one asked the question everyone's been wondering: "Why can't the PC port be as good as the PS3 version?" Gilray responded simply, "Because the PS3 version is not completed yet," before adding, "As for the PS3 version, we will look to bring this to the PC as an update to the current PC version at a later date." While it's far from a promise, it is a reminder that the HD remake isn't contractually bound to remain a PS3-exclusive, and it's also a potential silver lining for anyone plagued by bugs in the current Oddboxx release. <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/oddworld-strangers-wrath-hd-character-models/">Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath HD (character models)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/oddworld-strangers-wrath-hd-character-models/#3722330"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/12/5283690930d123a998ccb_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/oddworld-strangers-wrath-hd-character-models/#3722331"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/12/528309129531c13dd087b_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/oddworld-strangers-wrath-hd-character-models/#3722332"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/12/52836910440fb1bcd061b_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/oddworld-strangers-wrath-hd-character-models/#3722333"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/12/528309111340af0aed2eo_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/oddworld-strangers-wrath-hd-character-models/#3722351"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/12/fuzzlecomplete_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div>[Thanks, BoogerA]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/28/strangers-wrath-hd-dev-will-look-to-bring-ps3-update-to-pc-fo/">Stranger's Wrath HD dev will 'look to' bring PS3 update to PC for free</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 28 Dec 2010 12:31:00 EST. Despite what you may think, it turns out that remastering a five-year-old game up to today's graphical standards is actually <em>very</em> complicated. Just Add Water has posted a new <a href="http://www.jawltd.com/?p=638">developer diary</a> for the upcoming remake of <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/oddworld-strangers-wrath"><em>Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath</em></a>, this time discussing the work that has gone into creating the new character models. Some models, like the Stranger, can be based on the models used in the pre-rendered cinematics from the original title. Others, which have no CG version, must be remade from scratch, such as the Fuzzle seen above.<br />
<br />
Check out the diary, which is full of fancy terms like "NURBS" and "Ambient Occlusion," for a closer look at the Stranger's journey into modernity.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/09/just-add-water-talks-new-models-for-strangers-wrath/">Just Add Water talks new models for Stranger's Wrath</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 09 Oct 2010 07:45:00 EST. Why, then, is the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/03/oddworld-strangers-wrath-ps3-announced/">remake</a> exclusive to PlayStation 3? Developer Just Add Water says that it isn't -- theoretically. "Whilst I can't go into complete detail on this," a news post on the company's website states, "I can tell you that we are NOT PS3 Exclusive. As far as we are concerned we are a multi-platform company, supporting the big 3, PC/PS3 &amp; 360."<br />
<br />
The specific reason why <em>Stranger's Wrath</em> isn't on 360 yet is a surprising one, one we haven't heard for a while: XBLA size restrictions. "On XBLA there is a 2 GigaByte size limit we have to adhere to," the developer said. "Currently the title weighs in at 2.1GB and that is without any updates, so either we have to pull a miracle out of the bag with some type of amazing compression system, or ask Microsoft to increase their 2GB limit, however this limit is apparently hardware led, so please let us try and make a miracle happen." Don't worry, Oddworld fans. Microsoft increasing the XBLA size limit is less a "miracle" and more "inevitable." <br type="_moz" /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/28/file-size-restriction-keeping-oddworld-strangers-wrath-from-xb/">File size restriction currently keeping Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath from XBLA</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 28 Sep 2010 13:30:00 EST. As seen in the image above, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/oddworld-strangers-wrath">Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath</a></em>'s main character is getting a truckload or two of new polygons in Just Add Water's forthcoming remastered version of the game. How many more, specifically, you ask? Is 17,000 enough, roughly seven times more than the original Xbox version? Certainly is for us!<br />
<br />
The difference is far more stunning when viewed on a larger scale than our header image will allow, so we'd suggest heading to <a href="http://www.jawltd.com/?p=621">JAW's dev blog</a> and seeing for yourself. On the same blog, you'll find a handful of details regarding what specifically is <a href="http://www.jawltd.com/?p=595">being changed about </a><em><a href="http://www.jawltd.com/?p=595">Stranger's Wrath</a>.</em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/26/oddworlds-stranger-getting-a-makeover-for-ps3-remake/">Oddworld's Stranger getting a makeover for PS3 remake</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 26 Sep 2010 16:30:00 EST. The <em>Oddworld</em> franchise is making a comeback, starting with a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/03/oddworld-strangers-wrath-ps3-announced/">remastered version of </a><em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/03/oddworld-strangers-wrath-ps3-announced/">Stranger's Wrath</a></em> created by a small team at Just Add Water. The developer's ambition encompasses six <em>Oddworld</em> projects in total -- that's an <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oddworld">Oddworld Quintology</a> plus one.<br />
<br />
"Well for one I'm a HUGE fan, and always have been, all the way back to 1997," said Stewart Gilray, managing director of Just Add Water. "Other members of the team are also fans, and as a company we all care deeply about the project, and will only sign off on it ourselves, when we are happy with it in every aspect."<br />

Talking to Joystiq via email, Gilray explained that his company's collaboration with Oddworld Inhabitants started when he was introduced to series creator Lorne Lanning, during the 2009 Game Developers Conference in San Francisco. <em>Hello</em>. <em>Follow me</em>. Are you ready, Steef? Just Add Water is working on a high-definition remake of <em>Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath</em>. The <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/gravity-crash">Gravity Crash</a></em> developer announced the project earlier today, highlighting it as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/15/new-oddworld-games-in-the-works-at-just-add-water/">the first</a> in a "long and fruitful relationship" with the original game's developer, Oddworld Inhabitants. "Having a chance to update the great title and release it on PS3 is just a brilliant opportunity, not least for us, but for the fans too," added Just Add Water MD Stewart Gilray.<br />
<br />
Set for release on PlayStation Network during Easter next year, the PS3 remake of <em>Stranger's Wrath</em> will offer enhanced 720p visuals, more detailed character models, remastered dialogue, PlayStation Move support and "additional bonus material." <br />
<br />
When it launched on Xbox in January 2005, <em>Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath</em> was notable for being, well, a really bizarre first-person shooter. It placed the franchise's environmental missive inside a wild and weird Western aesthetic, and replaced ammunition with ravenous fuzzballs. An EA-developed port for PlayStation 2 never made it to stores.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/03/oddworld-strangers-wrath-ps3-announced/">Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath remake coming to PS3 in 2011</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 03 Sep 2010 07:17:00 EST. The portable iteration of Just Add Water's modern take on a retro classic, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/gravity-crash"><em>Gravity Crash</em></a>, will finally see the light of day tomorrow. The new and arguably improved <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/27/gravity-crash-psp-adds-exclusive-survivor-mode/">PSP version</a> of the game will be added to the PlayStation Store in the next PSN content update tomorrow, available for $10.<br />
<br />
The new version of the game features an anti-gravity ship, which is less eager to go crashing into the surrounding walls than the original -- though, isn't that kind of counter-intuitive to the game's moniker? For the full list of changes visited upon the handheld port, check out the developer's recent post on <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2010/07/19/coming-soon-to-psn-gravity-crash-portable-for-psp/">PlayStation Blog</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/19/gravity-crash-colliding-with-psp-july-20/">Gravity Crash colliding with PSP tomorrow, July 20</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 19 Jul 2010 15:30:00 EST. The long-dormant <em>Oddworld</em> franchise is ready to make its return. Just Add Water, developer of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/gravity-crash"><em>Gravity Crash</em></a>, has been working with Oddworld Inhabitants on "multiple projects, across multiple platforms ... starring all of your favorite <em>Oddworld</em> characters." Just Add Water Managing Director Stewart Gilray has also revealed that franchise creator Lorne Lanning is involved in the new projects.<br />

Taking a page from WiiWare's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/bit-trip"><em>Bit.Trip</em></a> franchise, <em>Vektar Beat</em> is just the first in a series of <em>Vektar</em> mini-games.<br />
<br />
While details are scant, there's good reason to play close attention to the game. Just Add Water plans on charging as little as $1 for the game on the Minis service, introducing pricing parity between the App Store and the PlayStation Store for the first time. For PSP owners frustrated at overpriced Minis, <em>Vektar Beat</em> represents an interesting experiment.<br />
<br />
Vektar Beat is scheduled for release in the Spring. Further details are scant for now, but tonight's episode of the <a href="http://www.psnation.org/podcastlist/">PS Nation podcast</a> should reveal much more.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/11/just-add-water-announces-vektar-beat-for-psp-minis-and-iphone/">Just Add Water announces 'Vektar Beat' for PSP Minis and iPhone</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 11 Feb 2010 14:00:00 EST. It's been a while since <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gravity-crash"><em>Gravity Crash</em></a> landed on the PS3. But what ever happened to the PSP version? It's still in the works, and it's gotten much bigger since we last heard of it. Not only will the PSP version of <em>Gravity Crash</em> feature the same retro-inspired gameplay as the PS3 game, it'll add a brand new "Survivor" mode, exclusive to the handheld version. In addition, the previously-<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/18/gravity-crash-landing-on-ps3-and-psp/">canceled level editor</a> has found its way back on the PSP. Looks like <em>LittleBigPlanet PSP</em> isn't the only Play, Create, Share game on the system!<br />
<br />
Additionally, a new patch is hitting the PS3 version of the game. It's taken a while, but Just Add Water's play-create-share dual-stick shooter <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gravity-crash"><em>Gravity Crash</em></a> will be landing on both the American and European PlayStation Stores next Tuesday, November 24th.<br />
<br />
The game has certainly come a long way since its E3 showing, especially in terms of visuals. Unlike so many other PSN games, <em>Gravity Crash</em> will launch with a free demo which will include access to four levels and the in-game level editor (seen after the break). The demo will give you nearly unrestricted access to the editor, with one caveat -- you'll only be able to publish levels online by buying the full game.<br />
<br />
<em>Gravity Crash</em> will be available on PS3 for &pound;6.29 / &euro;7.99 / $9.99. A PSP version -- which also includes a level editor -- is also in the works, and is likely to arrive in December. For more details on the game, check out <a href="http://www.psnation.org/2009/11/20/episode-140-just-add-fallout/">Episode 140</a> of the PS Nation podcast.<br />

SCEE stealthily revealed a PSP version at Gamescom. Like its big brother, <em>Gravity Crash</em> will be distributed through the PlayStation Network. Looking at the trailer for the PS3 game (above), it's clear the transition to PSP should be rather easy.<br />
<br />
Both versions of the game are being developed by Just Add Water, but it appears that only the PS3 version will include the ability to create and share levels. Too bad! Guess PSP owners will have to stick with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/littlebigplanet-psp"><em>LittleBigPlanet</em></a> instead.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/18/gravity-crash-landing-on-ps3-and-psp/">Gravity Crash landing on PS3 and PSP</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 18 Aug 2009 17:00:00 EST. Currently called "Project V," the game is expected to be <a href="http://twitter.com/jawwire/status/1351210658">announced at E3</a>.<br /><br />PSP has received a number of PSN ports in the past, such as <em>Super Stardust Portable</em> and <em>Everyday Shooter</em>. <span style="text-decoration: line-through;">However, this may be the first time the two platforms will receive a downloadable game simultaneously</span>. [<span style="font-weight: bold;">Update:</span> We forgot about <span style="font-style: italic;">Echochrome</span>!] Obviously, details on the upcoming title are slim, but it'll be interesting to see how the two platforms interface with each other (if at all).<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://supererogatory.tumblr.com/post/91009439/after-a-period-of-three-years-away-from-the">superannuation</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/30/project-v-to-be-revealed-at-e3-will-hit-ps3-and-psp/">'Project V' to be revealed at E3, will hit PS3 and PSP</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 30 Mar 2009 13:15:00 EST.
