	<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/05/gran-turismo-5-officially-getting-update-dlc-and-a-price-drop/"><img alt="Gran Turismo 5's photo mode is getting updated" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/10/gt5updatephotomode.jpg" style="border-width: 0px; border-style: solid; margin: 0px;" /></a></div>
The Official PlayStation Blog <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/10/05/gran-turismo-5-new-free-updates-dlc-and-price-drop/">has official details</a> on the official <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/gran-turismo-5"><em>Gran Turismo 5</em></a> update, officially coming in the next few weeks. The new patch offers new official interior views for all of the cars in the game, reduced load times, adjustable weather conditions, the ability to save during an extended race, and updated photo and shuffle modes. The game will also now officially support the Logitech G25 and G27 racing wheels, and the patch even adds official (of course) versions of the 2011 Nascar racing cars.<br />
<br />
And perhaps most exciting, Polyphony Digital will be officially dropping a "full batch of downloadable content" for <em>Gran Turismo 5</em> in the next few weeks, including new vehicles, new tracks, and "some additional surprises." Sony says you can watch <a href="http://us.gran-turismo.com/us/">the official website</a> for more details. And what's more, the official price on the game is officially dropping, down to $39.99.<br />
<br />
Unofficially? With <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/forza-motorsport-4"><em>Forza Motorsport 4</em></a> due out next week, it sounds like Sony's aiming to do a little crowdpleasing among the <em>Gran Turismo </em>faithful.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/05/gran-turismo-5-officially-getting-update-dlc-and-a-price-drop/">Gran Turismo 5 officially getting update, DLC, and a price drop</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 05 Oct 2011 20:02:00 EST. Activision is now publishing NASCAR games, after EA's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/04/moore-no-plans-right-now-for-new-nascar-installment/">abandonment</a> of the racing license. As if to rub it in, the first Eutechnyx-developed racer has been named <em><a href="http://www.nascarthegame.com">NASCAR The Game 2011</a></em>. As in "the <em>only</em> game." <a href="http://espn.go.com/espn/thelife/videogames/blog/_/name/thegamer/id/5630221/nascar-revs-video-game-return-eutechnyx">ESPN</a> revealed that Activision is acting as a distributor for the title, and the licensing deal is between NASCAR and Eutechnyx directly. <br />
<br />
"[NASCAR] really got excited about this because this isn't some big publisher using some anonymous external developer," Eutechnyx's North American EVP Ed Martin told ESPN. "We are out there with these guys. We are working with not only NASCAR, but the drivers and the R&amp;D center and the engine builders and everyone is really excited about the fact that we are right there with them. Eutechnyx owns the license, we're developing the game, and it's a dynamic partnership with Activision. They've been great to work with."<br />
<br />
NASCAR The Game 2011 will be in stores in February 2011, for Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/nascar-the-game-2011/">NASCAR The Game 2011</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/nascar-the-game-2011/#3420101"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/09/nascar9301101_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/nascar-the-game-2011/#3420102"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/09/nascar9301102_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/nascar-the-game-2011/#3420103"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/09/nascar9301103_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/nascar-the-game-2011/#3420104"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/09/nascar9301104_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/nascar-the-game-2011/#3420105"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/09/nascar9301105_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/30/activision-and-eutechnyx-making-nascar-the-game-2011/">Activision and Eutechnyx making NASCAR The Game 2011</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 30 Sep 2010 10:20:00 EST. If EA's cancellation of its series of <em>NASCAR</em> games has left your need -- your need for <em>speed</em> -- unsatisfied, you'll want to wish on all your lucky stars that this particular rumor is legit. A since-closed thread on the forums of developer Eutechnyx purportedly includes <a href="http://forums.eutechnyx.com/threads/3055-New-NASCAR-Title-Coming-from-Eutechnyx/page2">a logo and concept art</a> for <em>NASCAR 2011</em>. <a href="http://www.vg247.com/2010/09/22/activision-tipped-for-imminent-nascar-2011-reveal/">VG247 reports</a> that UK sources have confirmed that the title is real and will be published by Activision.<br />
<br />
Eutechnyx's Dave Thompson explained to a stock car enthusiast <a href="http://twitter.com/davet_etx/status/25095110167">on Twitter</a> that "an announcement is being made soon about our plans," so we shouldn't have to wait long to see if this story pans out. In any event, we're going to go watch <em>Days of Thunder</em> and <em>Talladega Nights</em> a few times so we can stock up on references -- if we end up writing about a NASCAR game over the next year, we're going to need <em>something</em> to say.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/23/rumor-activision-gearing-up-for-nascar-game/">Rumor: Activision gearing up for NASCAR game</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 23 Sep 2010 01:00:00 EST. One year after a being sued for allegedly infringing on a voice recognition technology patent, publishers Ubisoft, Electronic Arts, Sony Computer Entertainment, and Disney Interactive Studios have decided to settle the matter out of court, according to Gamasutra.<br />
<br />
On <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/17/ubisoft-sony-ea-and-disney-sued-over-voice-recognition-patent/">November 10th, 2009</a>, Bareis Technologies, LLC filed a lawsuit claiming titles such as <em>SOCOM</em>, <em>Tom Clancy's EndWar</em> and <em>NASCAR</em> and <em>Phonics Quest</em>, infringed on a 1996 patent that outlined a process of speech recognition templates to be present on optical disks in order to access specific information and issue commands for control purposes. Originally, Bareis Technologies' patent was largely targeted towards accessing specific music tracks on audio CDs, making <a href="http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect2=PTO1&amp;Sect2=HITOFF&amp;p=1&amp;u=%2Fnetahtml%2FPTO%2Fsearch-bool.html&amp;r=1&amp;f=G&amp;l=50&amp;d=PALL&amp;RefSrch=yes&amp;Query=PN%2F5617407">no mention</a> of the concept being used to control game functions.<br />
<br />
According to the report, the U.S. District Court's Eastern District of Texas Tyler Division approved a motion applied by all defendants in the claim requesting a mutual dismissal on April 21, 2010. That, in turn, dismissed all counterclaims made in the process. The terms of the settlement were not revealed, although the court documents obtained by <a href="http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/28271/EA_SCEA_Ubisoft_Disney_Settle_With_Voice_Tech_Patent_Holder.php?utm_source=feedburner&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Feed%3A+GamasutraNews+%28Gamasutra+News%29">Gamasutra</a> state all parties will pay their own legal fees.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/28/ubisoft-sony-ea-and-disney-settle-voice-recognition-lawsuit/">Ubisoft, Sony, EA and Disney settle voice recognition lawsuit</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 28 Apr 2010 22:30:00 EST. It's been nearly two years since EA Sports <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/04/moore-no-plans-right-now-for-new-nascar-installment/">called it quits</a> on the NASCAR franchise (a little less if you count <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/nascar-kart-racing"><em>NASCAR Kart Racing</em></a>). NASCAR gamers are growing impatient and, for better or for worse, will have to wait for the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/03/sony-europe-dont-worry-gran-turismo-5-will-be-out-before-chri/">perpetually-delayed</a> <em>Gran Turismo 5</em> to get their NASCAR fix.<br />
<br />
At the very least, fans can take comfort in knowing that Blake Davidson, managing director of licensed products at NASCAR, has incredible faith in the game. "They're going to do it better than anybody's ever done it before," he stated in a video posted on the <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2010/03/gran-turismo-does-nascar-polyphony-digital-at-texas-motor-speedway/">PlayStation.Blog</a>. "It's really the next step for us, it's the best depiction of what NASCAR cars are in any driving game to date." Certainly a bold statement, considering NASCAR is just <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/09/gran-turismo-5-trailer-reveals-damage-system-amongst-other-feat/">one feature</a> in the racer.<br />
<br />
According to Davidson, one of the reasons why NASCAR teamed up with Polyphony Digital is the recommendation of one of the sports most famous racers today. "Dale Earnhardt, Jr. himself actually came to us and said 'you really need to look at Polyphony Digital. They're a great developer, the best in the world at what they do.'"<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/05/nascar-director-calls-gran-turismo-5-the-best-nascar-game-to-dat/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>NASCAR director calls Gran Turismo 5 the best NASCAR game to date</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/05/nascar-director-calls-gran-turismo-5-the-best-nascar-game-to-dat/">NASCAR director calls Gran Turismo 5 the best NASCAR game to date</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 05 Mar 2010 17:15:00 EST. We get <em>so</em> jealous of the professional oval-navigators in the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/nascar">National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing</a> -- their rides get all the sweet paint jobs. What, you think our Toyota Matrix wouldn't look sweet decked out in Home Depot stickers, with a large, arbitrary number plastered on our driver's side door? That's automotive bigotry.<br />
<br />
Speaking of, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/24/gamestop-sponsors-driver-in-nascar-nationwide-series/">GameStop-sponsored</a> NASCAR racer Joey Logano's <a href="http://news.bigdownload.com/2010/02/13/bioshock-2-heads-to-nascars-daytona-today/">latest whip was revealed</a> during yesterday's Sprint Cup practice races: The Big Daddy-branded car seen above. That's actually a pretty great strategy -- can you imagine being one of the other drivers on the track, and seeing a massive <em>drillmonster</em> approaching from behind?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/14/nothing-says-bioshock-like-stock-car-racing/">Nothing says 'BioShock' like stock car racing</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 14 Feb 2010 16:00:00 EST. <br />
Paramount Digital Entertainment and Piranha Games are bringing <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/days-of-thunder"><em>Days of Thunder</em></a> to the Xbox 360 and PS3 this summer and it has a <em>major</em> actor attached. It's not Tom Cruise, Cary Elwes, Robert Duval, Randy Quaid or even John C. Reilly from the film of the same name, though. Nope, it's Michael Rooker? "Who?," you might be asking? Remember the guy who got stinkpalmed in Mallrats? Yes, that's him. Rowdy Burns himself. He'll play your crew chief in this downloadable title, until he gets back in a race car and challenges you on the track.<br />
<br />
<em>Days of Thunder</em> plays like an <em>extremely</em> scaled down version of EA's <em>NASCAR</em> series, meaning you hold down the accelerator and <em>rarely</em> use the brake. You can draft other cars to "Drop the Hammer" and slingshot around them and spend points on one of four categories to improve the three different car types.<br />
<strong><br />
Update:</strong> Paramount has contacted us and asked us to remove the gameplay video, because <em>more impressive</em> material is in the works! Does that sound believable? And will NASCAR throw their weight behind this game? It was announced at an official NASCAR event, and the movie is NASCAR themed to the gills, but who knows. That license isn't <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/25/eas-nascar-exclusivity-in-question-sim-series-on-hold/">EA exclusive</a> anymore. <br />
<br />

On November 10th, Bareis Technologies, LLC filed a <a href="http://dockets.justia.com/docket/court-txedce/case_no-6:2009cv00514/case_id-119659/">lawsuit</a> against Ubisoft, Sony Computer Entertainment, Electronic Arts and Disney Interactive Studios, claiming that various games, including <em>Tom Clancy</em>, <em>SOCOM</em> and <em>NASCAR</em> titles, infringe upon a patent <a href="http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect2=PTO1&amp;Sect2=HITOFF&amp;p=1&amp;u=%2Fnetahtml%2FPTO%2Fsearch-bool.html&amp;r=1&amp;f=G&amp;l=50&amp;d=PALL&amp;RefSrch=yes&amp;Query=PN%2F5617407">filed in 1996</a>. "Optical disk having speech recognition templates for information access" describes a process "integrating automatic speech recognition technologies into optical disk players for command and control purposes."<br /> <br /> As is typical with lawsuits of this nature, the plaintiff is seeking "no less than a reasonable royalty" for the supposed use of this "stolen" technology. Should the case make it to court, the plaintiff will have a few hurdles to overcome. Primarily, lawyers will have to prove how a patent largely targeted towards accessing specific music tracks on audio CDs is applicable to the video games in question.<br /> <br /> Considering it's been over seven years since the debut of the first <em>SOCOM</em> game, it's surprising that the plaintiff has waited so long to file this suit. Perhaps it's telling that the company going forward with the lawsuit has done so little in the thirteen years since filing the trademark that it has <a href="http://www.google.com/search?q=%22Bareis+Technologies%22&amp;ie=utf-8&amp;oe=utf-8&amp;aq=t&amp;rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&amp;client=firefox-a">no web presence whatsoever</a>.<br /> <br /> [Via <a href="http://www.gamepolitics.com/2009/11/16/ea-ubi-scea-and-disney-target-voice-recognition-suit">GamePolitics</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/17/ubisoft-sony-ea-and-disney-sued-over-voice-recognition-patent/">Ubisoft, Sony, EA and Disney sued over voice recognition patent</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 17 Nov 2009 16:06:00 EST. EA's time with the <span style="font-style: italic;">NASCAR</span> series has come to an end, at least for the time being, says EA Sports boss Peter Moore. Speaking with <a href="http://uk.gamespot.com/news/6216624.html">GameSpot UK</a>, Moore said that the sports division of the mega-publisher has "no plans right now" to develop a new <span style="font-style: italic;">NASCAR</span> title. Since debuting in 1997, EA Sports has developed nearly 20 <span style="font-style: italic;">NASCAR</span> based racing games -- ending with the Wii-exclusive <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/NASCAR-Kart-Racing" style="font-style: italic;">NASCAR Kart Racing</a> in early 2009.<br /> <br /> According to Moore, the company was forced to make "tough trade-offs," sending an undisclosed number of <span style="font-style: italic;">NASCAR</span> developers to work on the upcoming -- and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/13/ufc-president-confirms-war-with-ea-blacklisting-fighters/">controversial</a> -- <span style="font-style: italic;">EA Sports MMA</span> title. Thankfully, EA has filled any void we'd have for the loss of one racing franchise with no less than sixteen <span style="font-style: italic;">Need for Speed</span> games by the end of 2010*.<br /> <br /><small>*We're exaggerating. We hope.</small><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/04/moore-no-plans-right-now-for-new-nascar-installment/">Moore: 'No plans right now' for new NASCAR installment</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 04 Sep 2009 02:00:00 EST. While perusing through the Joystiq Pile o' E3 Trailers[TM], we realized we had forgotten to post this gorgeous direct-feed footage of <em>Gran Turismo 5</em>. It flashed by too quickly during the Sony press conference for us to truly understand all the new features hidden in the trailer. Here's what we noticed:<br />
<ul>
    <li><strong>Damage!</strong><br />We captured this still frame from the trailer, showing off what appears to be a new damage model for vehicles. Look at the bent hood, the crack on the car's side. Are those scratches in the car's paint? We think so.</li>
    <li><strong>FIA World Rally Championship</strong><br />The off-road challenges in <em>Gran Turismo 5</em> look absolutely gorgeous, showcasing the engine's impressive ability to render particles.</li>
    <li><strong>NASCAR</strong><br />This is a huge license for <em>GT5</em> to feature as NASCAR fans are as hardcore as they come. With EA Sports slowly pulling away from the franchise, hardcore racing enthusiasts will turn to <em>GT</em> for their fix. The vehicle liveries look accurate -- important for the NASCAR fan.<br /></li>
    <li><strong>New cockpit view</strong><br />Finally, we were treated to a second of footage from what appears to be a new cockpit view. The camera seems to be pulled farther back, revealing more of the drivers inside. It doesn't seem practical for races, but it is very dramatic.</li>
</ul>

Throw up your caution flags if you've got 'em, folks. Word from the <a href="http://www.sportingnews.com/yourturn/viewtopic.php?t=521493">NASCAR News Wire</a> is that EA's annual racing sim is "on hold," according to SportsBusiness Journal reporter Michael Smith. Backing up this claim, EA product marketing manager Randy Chase referred to the <em>NASCAR</em> sim series as "the old game" while describing the "lighthearted" appeal of the new <a href="http://nintendo.joystiq.com/tag/nascar-kart-racing/"><em>Kart</em> version</a> of the franchise, which was released for Wii earlier this month.<br /> <br />Additionally, Blake Davidson, managing director of NASCAR's licensed products, has suggested that the company is currently considering the "best model" to tap into its gaming demographic, which may include licensing its rights to multiple publishers (EA has held exclusivity since <strike>1997</strike> -- <strong>correction:</strong> <a href="http://www.gamespot.com/news/6075962.html">2003</a>; those rights expire this year). "Do we continue with an exclusive model or go nonexclusive? Do we need annual releases? This is a very important category for us," said Davidson of NASCAR games, which rank in the top five revenue-generating licenses for the business.<br /><br /><strong>Update:</strong> "<em>NASCAR Kart Racing</em> on the Wii is the only NASCAR-licensed video game that will ship this year from EA Sports. Due to the family-friendly atmosphere of NASCAR, we felt that a title developed exclusively for the Wii platform was the best scenario for the <em>NASCAR</em> racing video game franchise and fans of racing alike," a representative from EA Tiburon, the <em>NASCAR</em> franchise developer, confirmed with Joystiq. Read how EA Tiburon answered a few ancillary questions about exclusivity after the break.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.sportingnews.com/blog/firstcuts/entry/view/17437/is_eas_nascar_sim_franchise_in_trouble">FirstCuts</a> -- thanks Chris! Then <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/06/2d-boy-honored-by-peter-moores-world-of-goo-ignorance/">Peter Moore saw it on some list</a> and really didn't know what it was. Tunes change, however.<br /><br />Peter recently gave the game's demo a whirl and came away impressed. He found "a ton to admire" and said it was "full of impressive physics that make for an elegant and somewhat addictive experience." He promises more on his experience with the game later, so that's all he said for now.<br /><br />If you're interested in more from EA, like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/15/gamestop-car-makes-nascar-kart-racing-irresistible/"><em>NASCAR Kart Racing</em></a>, he goes on about it later in his blog post. We all knew intuitively what was wrong with this idea -- not enough GameStop logos, right? A cutesy kart racing game based on real people and real cars: ridiculous. But with added GameStop marketing, in the form of Joey Logano and (a karty version of) his GameStop-sponsored car: <em>awesome</em>. That's all we were waiting for, EA -- a game in which we could look at the GameStop logo all the time and be reminded of their large selection of pre-owned products. This is great news for both Joey Logano fans <em>and</em> GameStop fans!<br /><br />This car will be unlockable via a code obtained either a) by purchasing the game from GameStop or b) visiting GameFAQs fifteen minutes after the game comes out.<br /><br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/15/gamestop-car-makes-nascar-kart-racing-irresistible/">NASCAR Kart Racing goes after GameStop superfans</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 15 Jan 2009 20:00:00 EST. EA is finally bringing NASCAR to Wii, but not in the way you might hope. Instead, the game will be a kart racer full of "cartoon mischief." Titled <a href="http://kartracing.easports.com/"><em>NASCAR Kart Racing</em></a>, the game will feature 14 licensed NASCAR drivers, as well as 10 original drivers that EA came up with on their own. There will be a total of 24 different tracks to race on, some based on real tracks and some totally made up.<br /><br />The game will feature multiplayer, although it's only 4-player split-screen, and ship on February 10th, 2009. Head past the break for the list of licensed drivers that will be included in the game and check out our gallery below for some screens.<br /><br />
<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/04/ea-reveals-nascar-kart-racing-for-wii/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>EA reveals NASCAR Kart Racing for Wii</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/04/ea-reveals-nascar-kart-racing-for-wii/">EA reveals NASCAR Kart Racing for Wii</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 04 Dec 2008 19:12:00 EST. Awwe, will you look at that? Little Kasey Kahne went and got himself a booboo. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/electronic-arts">Electronic Arts</a> announced that when it brings its long-held NASCAR license to the Wii early next year, it will be shorter, cuter and full of "cartoon mischief." Billed as a family-friendly take on motorsports, the Wii-exclusive <a href="http://kartracing.easports.com"><em>NASCAR Kart Racing</em></a> ("NASKART!") will feature a roster of 14 licensed NASCAR drivers (listed after the break) and 10 others that EA dreamed up, each with different capabilities to help them and a teammate reach the checkered flag first. <br /><br />Up to four racers will be able to compete head-to-head, though players will have to be satisfied with sharing the screen. Wacky races will be spread out across 24 different tracks, from real world courses to junkyards and freeways. <em>NASCAR Kart Racing</em> will pull up to the retail starting line on February 10th, in time for the Daytona 500 and the official start of the 2009 NASCAR season. Until then ... gentlemen, start your engines! No, wait, it's that cord on the back there. Yea, just give it a good tug. There, you got it.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/nascar-kart-racing/">NASCAR Kart Racing</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/nascar-kart-racing/#1202720"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/12/cute_nascar_10_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/nascar-kart-racing/#1202719"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/12/cute_nascar_12_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/nascar-kart-racing/#1202718"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/12/cute_nascar_11_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/nascar-kart-racing/#1202717"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/12/cute_nascar_9_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/nascar-kart-racing/#1202716"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/12/cute_nascar_6_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/04/ea-makes-nascar-cute-for-wii-in-february/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>EA makes NASCAR-T cute for Wii in February</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/04/ea-makes-nascar-cute-for-wii-in-february/">EA makes NASCAR-T cute for Wii in February</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 04 Dec 2008 11:55:00 EST. We thought no one would be able to supplant Dick Trickle in our hearts as our favorite NASCAR driver, but we'd like to announce that the top slot now belongs to Carl Edwards, who <a href="http://sports.yahoo.com/nascar/news?slug=bm-edwards092808&amp;prov=yhoo&amp;type=lgns">just discovered</a> that things don't always work out the way they do in games. The driver attempted a move called the "slide job" during Sunday's Camping World RV 400 that would have had him sliding behind leader Jimmie Johnson, glancing off the wall and taking first place.<br /><br />It didn't pan out that way. Sliding into the wall slowed him down more than he thought, leading him to comment after the race, "I always wanted to try to do that. Now I know it doesn't quite work the same as video games." Oh, well, add it to the list with grenade tagging and riding miniature dinosaurs.<br /><br />You can check out an interview with our new hero about the stunt right after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/29/nascar-driver-tries-video-game-move-fails/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>NASCAR driver tries video game move, fails</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/29/nascar-driver-tries-video-game-move-fails/">NASCAR driver tries video game move, fails</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 29 Sep 2008 13:55:00 EST. Well, that race went down this past weekend where the <em>GH:Aerosmith</em> car finished in a very sad <a href="http://www.nascar.com/races/cup/2008/17/data/results_official.html">38th place</a>. Bummer. But thanks to loyal fanboy SToNeP2277 who attended the racing festivities, we received a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/guitar-hero-aerosmith-racecar/">few pictures</a> of not only the racecar prior to its losing finish, but also the promotional trailer and RV they had setup on the race grounds. Check out all the NASCAR pictures below and be sure to note the very glam <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/guitar-hero-aerosmith-racecar/893523//full/">red rope</a> they had setup.<br /><br /><br />[Thanks, SToNeP2277]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/01/photos-of-a-losing-guitar-hero-aerosmith-racecar/">Photos of a losing Guitar Hero: Aerosmith racecar</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 01 Jul 2008 15:45:00 EST. Our favorite part of professional stock car racing (and there are <em>so many</em> to choose from) is how through the magic of branding, cars become meeting places for totally rad, totally American iconography that really has no business being meshed. <br /><br />Take, for example, the above car, sponsored by Activision's <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Guitar-Hero-Aerosmith/">Guitar Hero Aerosmith</a></em> and ... Target. Finally, America's love for Steven Tyler's seething, Ben-Gay-slathered pseudo-sexuality can be melded with its love of value and flown on one giant fossil fuel-burning flag. God bless you marketing drones, you're the whole reason we're still getting out of bed.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/19/guitar-hero-aerosmith-sponsors-nascar-car/">Guitar Hero Aerosmith sponsors NASCAR ... car</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 19 Jun 2008 11:00:00 EST. A demo for <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/07/customize-your-nascar-09-experience/">NASCAR 09</a> </em>has landed on the Xbox Live Marketplace. Weighing in at 598MB, the demo promises to let gamers "take on NASCAR's biggest stars" on two of the game's 22 tracks. NASCAR fans should check it out. Those out there who aren't NASCAR should note that driving in excess of 100 miles per hour can get you arrested in real life, so you might as well give the demo a shot. Also, you can pretend you're <a href="http://youtube.com/watch?v=zKDC2iBQTYg">Will Ferrell in <em>Talladega Nights</em></a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/29/nascar-09-demo-puts-the-pedal-down/">NASCAR 09 demo puts the pedal down</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 29 May 2008 17:00:00 EST. Fans of high speed circular driving and pre-owned video games will be pleased to see a familiar sight at the NASCAR Nationwide Series at the Dover International Speedway on May 31 -- <a href="http://www.racingone.com/article.aspx?artnum=42657">a Gamestop sponsored stock car, driven by the fresh faced Joey Logano</a>. Gamestop debuted the young driver to the racing world today by celebrating Logano's eighteenth birthday (the required age for NASCAR drivers), and presented the new adult with an Xbox 360 and an advance copy of NASCAR '09 (for training purposes, we assume).<br /><br />We don't anticipate Logano to set any records at his debut race -- apparently, his pit crew has been instructed to ask if he'd like to exchange his old tires for trade-in credit at every stop, then ask if he wants the one-year warranties on his new tires, and finally, if he'd like to reserve additional tires for any upcoming pit stops.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/24/gamestop-sponsors-driver-in-nascar-nationwide-series/">Gamestop sponsors driver in NASCAR Nationwide Series</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 24 May 2008 22:00:00 EST. This week, the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/17/ds-releases-for-the-week-of-december-17th/">new releases</a> pretty much deal with squad-based combat or vehicles exclusively. So, if you aren't down with that, you're likely to not be picking up a new game. But, have no fear, as the holidays come next week and you're likely to receive some kind of gaming gift, if you were a good boy or girl. There's that to look forward to as you spend the weekend without a new game.<br /><br />So, what are you playing?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/21/wrup-squad-based-vehicles-edition/">WRUP: Squad-based vehicles edition</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 21 Dec 2007 17:00:00 EST. Target and <em>Halo 3</em> are partnering up to race a special Target / <em>Halo 3</em> branded race car that'll be driven by #40 David Stremme in the September 23rd Dover 400 race. A picture of the race car can be seen above in all its <em>Halo 3</em> glory and it's more than apparent that the paint job's inspiration came from the <em>Halo 3</em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/12/04/halo-3-commercial-just-aired/">Starry Night</a> commercial. We just hope Mr. Stremme doesn't crash next Sunday, because we aren't sure we can handle seeing Master Chief mangled and broken. God speed Stremme, god speed.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/13/halo-3-burns-rubber-and-goes-nascar/">Halo 3 burns rubber and goes NASCAR</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 13 Sep 2007 15:15:00 EST. Nintendo wants you to see Greg Biffle and the #16 Wii car as they open up a contest that will award the winner with two tickets to Dover International Speedway on September 23rd. Not only does the winner get the tickets, but also backstage V.I.P. passes, allowing access to the garages area. And, as if that wasn't enough, you also get to play Biffle in <em>Wii Sports</em>. So, if NASCAR isn't your thing, you can at least enter in the hopes that, upon winning, you can beat someone in a video game who makes a lot more money than you. <br /><br />That's got to be worth it, right?<br /><br />[via press release; thanks, hvnlysoldr!]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/02/win-a-trip-to-a-nascar-race/">Win a trip to a NASCAR race</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 02 Aug 2007 11:15:00 EST. Establishing themselves as the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/supersearch/?q=npd&amp;sort=date">dominant</a> console just wasn't enough for the Nintendo company, as they declared themselves prepared to enter the NASCAR circuit with the Wii-themed Ford Fusion. Driven by Roush Fenway Racing and NASCAR Nextel Cup driver Greg Biffle, the car will make its debut at Watkins Glen next month, followed by an encore performance at Dover's Monster Mile in September. We have to question Nintendo's motives here, but not being NASCAR fans ourselves, we don't really think we're equipped to criticize. <br /><br /><strong>See also</strong>: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/18/nascar-rookie-gives-his-wife-a-wii/">Nascar rookie gives his wife a Wii</a><br /><br />[Via press release]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/16/nintendo-packs-up-the-mullet-and-heads-to-the-races/">Nintendo packs up the mullet and heads to the races</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 16 Jul 2007 16:45:00 EST. During a rain delay at Darlington Raceway, he spoke a bit about his home life and, most importantly, his wife's recent fascination with the Wii. That, as you may well know, is something we can easily identify with.<br /><br />As Juan tells us, his wife received the Wii, along with some expensive diamond earrings (what a guy!). He says his wife became infatuated with the console after borrowing it from her brother for a day, as Juan tells us "Honestly, she really wanted a Wii. Do you love your Xbox Live video marketplace? If you answered yes, then you'll be a happy camper this NASCAR season. Starting today, NASCAR will be <a href="http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/12804/New-NASCAR-NEXTEL-Cup-Series-Races-to-Hit-Xbox-Live/">offering</a> three condensed races a month via the Xbox Live video marketplace. And of course, the racing goodness will be for download in full HD glory. We presume that the downloads will be free as part of NASCAR's Race-Rewind program, but we can't guarantee that. Is anyone a NASCAR fan and excited to be able to download HD racing content off the XBLM?<br /><br />[Thanks, Jonah]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/02/18/nascar-gives-checkered-flag-to-video-on-xblm/">NASCAR gives checkered flag to video on XBLM</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 18 Feb 2007 07:15:00 EST. This puppy <a href="http://www.gamerslounge.com/forum/showtopic.php?tid/9144/">is decked out</a> in 360 signature green, sleek 360 curving rings and The King driving a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/11/15/big-bumpin-screens-are-bk-fresh/">bumper car</a>. I may have to turn on the TV to watch cars go in circles for hours on end <em>just</em> to see this bad boy in action. Also, I'm compelled to ask; do you think this racecar makes more noise than an Xbox 360 running at full throttle?<br /><br />[Via, <a href="http://www.majornelson.com/archive/2006/11/15/xbox-goes-nascar.aspx">MajorNelson</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/11/16/nascar-burger-king-360-sweetness/">NASCAR + Burger King + 360 = sweetness!</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 16 Nov 2006 22:00:00 EST.
