EA firing off Nerf N-Strike Double Blast bundle this October

For us, the fact that any game includes a real working Nerf gun will at least raise an eyebrow, but for some consumers, it's simply not enough. We won't pretend we understand these folks, but even the inclusion of a real Nerf gun with Nerf N-Strike couldn't sway them. Well, how about a Nerf gun and two games?

The Nerf N-Strike Double Blast bundle, which EA hopes to launch this October, will come packed with the Switch Shot EX-3 blaster and Red Reveal decoder you see above, along with a copy of Nerf N-Strike and its sequel, Nerf N-Strike Elite. There's no word on price right now, but EA's Chip Lange said it would be "a very attractive price point."

EA expands Salt Lake studio, announces 'groundbreaking' new project

EA's got something cooking in Utah, as a recent press release states EA Salt Lake is getting some plush new office space downtown, as it gears up to undertake a "groundbreaking" new project and looks to hire people for "several critical leadership positions." EA Redwood Shores is also apparently getting in the mix, as executive producer Ben Bell told IndustryGamers his studio will enlist the aid of some of the best and brightest from over yonder.

Everyone is pretty mum on the subject of exactly what the project is right now, but, following EA's massive layoffs affecting 1,500 of its employees, Bell bills this expansion of talent to only "a few key positions right now." The new project will lean heavily on EA Salt Lake and EA Redwood Shores for most of the necessary personnel.

EA Salt Lake is perhaps best known for producing The Sims line of games. Maxis obviously created the franchise, but since the release of Spore, has been focusing primarily on that series. EA Salt Lake also handles the EA Play line of games, and has contributed Nerf N-Strike and Littlest Pet Shop. Now, we wouldn't want to speculate on what this new project is, but if you look at the studio's track record since officially becoming EA Salt Lake, one can't help but assume it'll be something on the PC or a Nintendo platform. That, or it's a golf game.

EA celebrates Nerf milestone with Nerf 2: N-Strike Elite

Are you the best of the best when it comes to soft, safe firepower? EA is going to give you a chance to prove your dominance of the Nerf battlefield once again, in the sequel to last year's Nerf N-Strike. This release coincides with Nerf's 40th anniversary, a fact touted by EA in its press release.

Most important among the new features of Nerf 2: N-Strike Elite, of course, is the new version of the Nerf Switch Shot EX-3 gun, which works both as a standalone Nerf dart gun and a Wii gun shell. The new blue gun includes a red decoder lens that reveals secret messages in the game -- otherwise, it appears identical to the previous (kind of awesome) gun controller.

The game includes new in-game weapons and upgrades, and "enhanced co-op play" with jump-in play. Nerf 2: N-Strike Elite will be out this fall.

N-Strike's price Nerfed by GameStop

We've been eager to try out EA's Nerf N-Strike since its October release, tempted as we are by the insane Nerf gun/Wii gun shell peripheral, but the $60 price point has kept us at bay. It is based on a toy license, after all, and $60 is a big risk for that.

But $40 is approaching a reasonable price point for the set. Luckily, that is just the price to which GameStop has just marked the bundle down! Now we have to ask ourselves the tough question: if we thought the Zapper was overpriced at $20, is it worth twenty more for a Zapper that we can also bother people with?

America chooses Nerf over nothin': EA/Hasbro partnership a success

The agreement between EA and Hasbro has brought us Wii games like Nerf N-Strike (with its awesome Nerf gun peripheral) and Family Game Night. The line of games, across multiple platforms, has just sold over two million total copies, with the Wii games contributing significantly to that total.

Nerf N-Strike has hit #10 on NPD's Wii sales chart since its October release, according to Gamasutra. Family Game Night and Monopoly Here and Now had solid, but unspecified, launch sales as well, and "continue to build momentum," according to EA's Chip Lange.

Really, we're pleased with anything that encourages the combination of Nerf guns with any hobby.

Nerf N-Strike performs pre-emptive attack, debuts first trailer

Aside from some screens and our brief time with the title, not much is known about Nerf N-Strike. Well, that's about to change, courtesy of the debut trailer for the game. In the video above, you'll find some gameplay, as well as plenty of Nerf firearms. It kind of makes us wish we were a kid again and could run around our living room, chasing the cat with our Nerf bow and arrow.

For manyof today's youth, nothing is more thrilling than gathering a group of friends, going into the woods, and hunting each other down with every conceivable type of NERF gun available. Whether playing capture-the-flag, Dart Tag, or NERF Fort, kids love to bust foam caps using their NERF turrets, blasters, crossbows and what have you.

Okay, confession time: most of us here at Nintendo Wii Fanboy are in our 20s, and we can't get enough (e-NERF?) NERF, either. Many adults boast vast collections of NERF guns, claiming that they're all "for the kids" and that they only use them when they're joining young Billy and Bobby on a friendly neighborhood NERF hunt.

According to a thirty-something EA representative manning the NERF N-Strike booth at the EA Summer Showcase here, N-Strike is being marketed to kids between the ages of eight and 12. But the grin plastered onto his face as he hefted the hybrid NERF gun / Wii casing spoke louder than words; the appeal of NERF defies age demographics.

Nerf N-Strike features Boom Blox-inspired game

IGN has the first look at Nerf N-Strike, EA's Wii game that comes with a hybrid Zapper/Nerf dart gun. It's going to be marketed as a hybrid as well, apparently, being sold in both the Nerf and video game sections of retailers. We gawked at the awesome gun a few months back when it was first revealed, but this is the first info about the actual game.

As expected, N-Strike is a shooting game in which you use Nerf weapons in-game -- against Nerf-susceptible robots, as seen in the above screen. The guns apparently behave like real Nerf guns, which means that the projectiles move much more slowly than actual bullets.

The game also contains multiplayer modes, one of which sounds quite similar to a current EA favorite. In Blox, players shoot one dart at a time into a structure of cubes until one uncovers a target block. It's a shooting-game take on Boom Blox, and it sounds like a pretty clever tie-in to the other game.

It's November or nothin' for Nerf N-Strike

Well, November or some other time or nothin', but we really wanted to use the old Nerf tagline, you know? In their original press release revealing Nerf N-Strike, EA assigned it a fall release window. A new listing on GameStop.com for the game provides a more definite release date: November 17, which puts it right in the middle of the holiday release season. If this is the real release date, it could mean that EA intends for Nerf N-Strike to be one of their major Wii releases for the year!

In addition to the release date, GameStop also offers a potential price for the game, which also includes the mindblowing Nerf gun/Wii Zapper hybrid: $59.99. No matter how awesome the gun is (and it looks way awesome), that game had better be vast for that kind of scratch.

NERF Wii Blaster is the coolest peripheral ever

Normally, we wouldn't care too much about NERF N-Strike on the Wii, one of many titles in development following EA and Hasbro's lucrative partnership. But our ears definitely perked up when we heard that the title will ship with a specially designed blaster controller, which will perform double-duty as a standard Wii gun peripheral, and as a functional, dart-firing NERF gun.

Shacknews provides an image of the sweet blaster, seen above. According to EA's press release, the game will feature single and multiplayer gameplay focused around "NERF mayhem." Honestly, we're expecting a run-of-the-mill Wii mini-game shooting title, but we're probably going to buy it anyway. After all, this run-of-the-mill Wii game comes with a NERF gun.
