In fact, the resale giant has amassed such a large back catalogue of classics that its heavily considering an entrance into the vintage resale market, though when that will happen remains a mystery.<br /><br />"If you go to eBay and look at all of the gaming stuff that's on there, it's unbelievable. Collector's stuff. We've got to be in that business. We will be," Gamestop CEO Paul Raines told <a href="http://www.theverge.com/2012/8/30/3279278/gamestop-vintage-store">Polygon</a>. "We think there's a vintage sales opportunity, so we're accumulating some inventory. It's a big idea, and there's a few problems with it. The first one is sourcing the product, the condition, the refurbishment, all that stuff. But there's a customer for it. And we're working on some stuff we haven't announced yet."<br /><br />If/when it does enter the classic games business, Gamestop will do so through its website, rather than expanding the scope of its retail locations. How many priceless Atari 2600 carts would we have to trade in for a used iPad, do you think?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/30/gamestop-ceo-company-could-expand-into-vintage-games-business/">Gamestop CEO: Company could expand into vintage games business</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 30 Aug 2012 15:40:00 EST. Bad news for those of you who have picked up some classic arcade titles on Xbox Live and can't wait to play them in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/07/xbox-game-room-pricing-partners-detailed/">Microsoft's new Game Room</a>: It looks like you will have to <a href="http://gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2010/01/26/news-microsoft-re_2D00_charging-for-game-room-arcade-games.aspx">repurchase anything you want to play</a> with your avatar in the 3D environment. Game Informer learned this recently from a Microsoft rep, who went on to say that it's because the Game Room titles are different from the XBLA versions -- in fact, it sounds like they're more old-school and not "revamped," as the rep puts it.<br />
<br />
Fortunately, you will get a small price break: As previously announced, the games will sell for 400<img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" /> ($5) to play on Xbox 360 <em>and </em>PC, 240<img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" /> ($3) for the game on one platform or 40<img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" /> ($0.50) for "two quarters'" worth of playtime. But for those of us who've already shelled out 400<img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" /> for the <em>Centipede/Millipede</em> combo, it looks like we'll have to pull out the wallet yet again.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/26/retro-xbla-games-must-be-repurchased-for-the-xbox-game-room/">Retro XBLA games must be repurchased for the Xbox Game Room</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 26 Jan 2010 22:20:00 EST. Last night was the opening night shindig for the latest <a href="http://www.iam8bit.net/">i am 8-bit show</a>, and it was by far their biggest event yet. We arrived early as part of a press event to mill around and quietly take photos, but by 9PM the place was packed with people checking out the art, listening to the whomping sounds of <a href="http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&amp;friendid=10237306">Computer Jay</a>, <a href="http://www.myspace.com/djrrated">DJ R-Rated</a>, and <a href="http://www.myspace.com/leenimusic">Leeni</a> (check her out in the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/i-am-8-bit-2008/977762/full/">Pac-Man dress</a>, along with her 8-bit tattoo). There was a massive line of people outside waiting to get in, and it had turned into the hottest ticket on Hollywood Blvd. Which, yes, is actually saying something.<br /><br />They had turned the entire storefront of the World of Wonder (didn't they used to make Teddy Ruxpin?) into a huge display, featuring giant <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/i-am-8-bit-2008/977825/full/">Piranha Plants</a> from <em>Super Mario Bros</em>., and they had an <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/i-am-8-bit-2008/971054/full/">old-school setup</a> where you could play games ranging from an NES to a full-sized arcade cabinet, right there on full display to everyone passing by. It probably didn't hurt that some of the <a href="http://www.totallynerdcore.com/Enter/calendars/index.htm">Nerdcore calendar girls</a> took up residence here later and played Game Boys and quarter-eaters <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/i-am-8-bit-2008/977847/full/">in their underwear</a>.<br /><br />Read more after the break, and be sure to take a spin through the huge gallery which shows off the more than 200 pieces in the show, and how crazy the whole scene became.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/i-am-8-bit-2008/">i am 8-bit: 2008</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/i-am-8-bit-2008/#977859"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/dsc_0603_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/i-am-8-bit-2008/#977852"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/dsc_0607_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/i-am-8-bit-2008/#977828"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/dsc_0610_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/i-am-8-bit-2008/#977787"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/dsc_0609_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/i-am-8-bit-2008/#977759"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/dsc_0605_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/15/joystiq-goes-to-i-am-8-bit/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Joystiq goes to i am 8-bit</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/15/joystiq-goes-to-i-am-8-bit/">Joystiq goes to i am 8-bit</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 15 Aug 2008 15:30:00 EST. Most of us have probably dabbled around with a Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator before, but have you ever crammed one into a TARDIS? Those things are supposed to be bigger on the inside than the outside. Anyhow, one man decided that having a dedicated stand-up gaming cabinet wasn't enough, so he built this pillar of geek awesomeness.<br /><br />Check out the two different sections, one on the building of the iconic <a href="http://www.asciimation.co.nz/tardis/">blue Police Box</a>, and the other on the <a href="http://www.asciimation.co.nz/tardis/page2.html#Introduction">console</a>. He even had the 7th doctor, Sylvester McCoy, autograph the thing. Is it still a sin to covet thy neighbor's sci-fi gaming cabinet? If so, mark us down in the "sinner" category.<br /><br />[Thanks, Douglas!]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/30/doctor-who-wants-to-time-warp-play-retro-games/">Doctor Who wants to time warp, play retro games</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 30 Jul 2008 20:15:00 EST. <p>Two more <a href="http://pspfanboy.com/category/sega-genesis-collection/"><em>Sega Genesis Collection</em></a> videos have been released, and here are more games I have yet to ever play. Actually, I do believe I've played <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_Axe_III"><em>Golden Axe 3</em></a> before, but I'm positive I've never even heard of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gain_Ground"><em>Gain Ground</em></a>.<br /><br />But never playing most of these games before is exactly what makes me so excited for this collection. I'll be able to revisit these classics on the PSP's big, beautiful screen anytime I want.</p>

However, some of you may not know that <a href="http://www.taito.co.jp/eng/">Taito</a> is throwing their hat in the ring with <em>Taito Legends</em>.<em><br /><br />Legends </em>packs in 25 classic Taito games ranging from <em>Space Invaders</em> to <em>The Legend of Kage</em>. And although the game won't feature multi-player support, players can share up to 21 games wirelessly with other console owners via the PSP's game-sharing function. Also, <em>Cameltry, Crazy Balloon, Balloon Bomb,</em> and <em>The Legend of Kage</em> have each received graphical upgrades along with being adapted to the PSP's widescreen.<br /><br /><a href="http://gamespot.com">Gamespot</a>, who just recently previewed the game, said "It's also a shame to see that little effort has been made to expand Taito Legends beyond including emulated versions of classic games. It's good to see that the PlayStation Portable's features have been used to allow wireless game sharing, but aside from the games themselves, there's little to keep you going for a long time."<br /><br />It looks like the retro compilations are starting to pour in, but I think companies will have to do more than stuff a bunch of their old games onto a UMD and send it out the door for them to be successful.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/10/15/taito-gets-in-on-the-old-school-resurgence/">Taito gets in on the old-school resurgence</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 15 Oct 2006 10:00:00 EST. <p>The <em>Sega Genesis Collection </em>videos just keep rolling in. There's already been <a href="http://pspfanboy.com/category/sega-genesis-collection/">four games shown</a>, and now we get to see even more great games in action with <em>Phantasy 2 </em>and <em>Golden Axe.</em> </p>
<p>Are you guys as excited for this badboy as I am?</p>

You know, one which links to a horribly addictive game filled with old-school flair, adorably pixelated explosions and <em>unstoppable space bats</em>. <a href="http://www.pixeljam.com/gammabros/online/"><em>Gamma Bros.</em></a> is exactly that kind of game, a sort of <em>Galaga</em> meets <em>Robotron</em> meets, well, <em>space bats</em>. As you sit there, caressing your keyboard into annihilating said beasties, consider how many people are doing the very same thing and how many more are sharing the experience with their friends. From this humble starting point, a plague of unproductivity will spread, tearing apart relationships, economies and the very concept of outdoor activity.<br /><br />But at least those <em>stinkin' space bats</em> will get what's coming to them.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/07/13/help-the-gamma-bros-destroy-evil-space-bats/">Help the Gamma Bros. destroy evil space bats</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 13 Jul 2006 22:25:00 EST.
