<div style="text-align: left;">This past weekend, during our <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/pax-08">PAX 2008</a> coverage, we got the opportunity to sit down and chat about all things <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gears-of-war-2"><span style="font-style: italic;">Gears of War 2</span></a> with Epic Games senior artist Pete Hayes and lead writer Josh Ortega. During the twenty minute conversation, we learned all sorts of information about <span style="font-style: italic;">Gears 2'</span>s art, discussing with Pete the changes that were made to improve the <span style="font-style: italic;">Gears 2 </span>Lancer. Improvements including a complete remodeling to make the Lancer nearly three times the polygons as the <span style="font-style: italic;">Gears 1</span> model. No joke!<br /><br />During the second part of our interview, we talk about <em>Gears </em>comics, character inspiration and other general story related bits the with Mr. Josh Ortega who also opens up about the hype surrounding the "new and improved" <span style="font-style: italic;">Gears 2 </span>storyline We were also promised that <em>Gears 2</em> will not leave us with a <em>Halo 2</em>-style ending. A promise we fully expect Mr. Ortega to live up to.<br /></div>

The lucky attendees of Penny Arcade Expo 2008 were able to get their hands on the upcoming PSN game <em>Savage Moon</em> before anyone else. We <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/20/bug-filled-psn-game-savage-moon-revealed/">described</a> the game as "Starship Troopers meets <em>PixelJunk Monsters</em>" at Leipzig -- and it looks like our description was spot-on. Check out the first (off-screen) gameplay footage of <em>Savage Moon</em>, after the cut.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/03/savage-moon-gameplay-finally-comes-out-of-pax/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Savage Moon gameplay finally comes out of PAX</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/03/savage-moon-gameplay-finally-comes-out-of-pax/">Savage Moon gameplay finally comes out of PAX</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 03 Sep 2008 11:00:00 EST. Bethesda's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pax-2008-the-fallout-3-airstream-trailer/"><em>Fallout 3</em> booth</a> pretty much won the "Oooooooh!" contest at PAX by about a million rads. Not only did they have an Airstream trailer, fully kitted out in 1950s style and with <em>Fallout 3</em> goodies inside, but they also had some of the best schwag at the expo. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pax-2008-the-pip-boy-puppet/">Vault Boy Puppet?</a> Yes, please. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/media/2008/09/fallout3posterboy.jpg"><em>Fallout 3</em> Penny Arcade poster?</a> Don't mind if we do. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-fallout-3-vault-dwellers-survival-guide/">The Vault Dweller's Survival Guide, Pocket Reference Edition?</a> Oh my stars and garters.<br /><br />In the gallery below you can check out the entire guide that they were handing out at the show, and it may very well be the actual game manual. You get 50 pages chock full of tips for surviving in the wastelands, info on the different weapons, details about the creatures you'll encounter, and tips from Vault Boy himself. It even has a map and notes section in the back for your own enjoyment and doodling.<br /><br />Of course, the best advice can be found on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-fallout-3-vault-dwellers-survival-guide/1014098/full/">Page 39</a>: "Are you in immediate danger? <div align="left">Wizards of the Coast has been very busy talking about the 4th edition of <em>Dungeons and Dragons</em>, which came out this year, as well as its <em>Star Wars</em> and <em>D&amp;D</em> miniatures and the online version of <em>Magic: The Gathering</em>. So, we were really caught off guard when we stopped by the Wizards booth at PAX and happened across this new version of <em>Magic</em> for the Xbox Live Arcade. We did a double take, tapped our mana, and found out more. Find out about the long-titled <em>Magic: The Gathering: Duels of the Planeswalkers</em> after the break.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pax-2008-magic-the-gathering-duels-of-the-planeswalkers/">Magic: The Gathering - Duels of the Planeswalkers</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pax-2008-magic-the-gathering-duels-of-the-planeswalkers/#2168023"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/07/dotp_whatis_screen2_full_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pax-2008-magic-the-gathering-duels-of-the-planeswalkers/#2168024"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/07/dotp_whatis_screen3_full_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pax-2008-magic-the-gathering-duels-of-the-planeswalkers/#2168025"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/07/dotp_whatis_screen4_full_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pax-2008-magic-the-gathering-duels-of-the-planeswalkers/#1010758"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/09/abyssal-spectermagic_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pax-2008-magic-the-gathering-duels-of-the-planeswalkers/#1010759"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/09/elspeth-on-the-omagic_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /></div>

Today being <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Labor_Day">Labor Day</a> and us being from the U.S., we're taking it easy (Xav is from Canada, but we're being told the day of labor is also celebrated up north) and we're all collectively attempting to recover from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/pax08">PAX</a>. So, be warned, news may be light today, but our schedule should return to normal in the days to come. Happy Labor Day, happy Monday, happy existence ... it's time to go back to sleep. Sleep is good.<br /><br />P.S. We wrangled up a mountain of swag to giveaway, so watch for PAX <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/fanswag">fanswags</a> in the weeks to come.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/01/celebrating-labor-day-and-recovering-from-pax/">Celebrating Labor Day and recovering from PAX</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 01 Sep 2008 13:30:00 EST. The <span style="font-style: italic;">Dragon Age: Origins</span> booth at PAX08 has been surrounded all weekend by both walls and people lining up to get inside. So when PAX opened for the third and final day this morning, we bolted straight to the game booth and avoided the nasty line. By joining in with the first group of the day to see the game demoed live. It didn't take very long for the room to fill up and once the doors close, we were elbow-to-elbow with what turned out to be some pretty enthusiastic BioWare fans.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pax-2008-dragon-age-origins-live-demo/">PAX 2008: Dragon Age: Origins Live Demo</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pax-2008-dragon-age-origins-live-demo/#1010567"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/pax08_3-062_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pax-2008-dragon-age-origins-live-demo/#1010566"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/pax08_3-061_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pax-2008-dragon-age-origins-live-demo/#1010565"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/pax08_3-049_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pax-2008-dragon-age-origins-live-demo/#1010564"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/pax08_3-035_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pax-2008-dragon-age-origins-live-demo/#1010563"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/pax08_3-032_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/01/pax-2008-dragon-age-origins-now-with-blood-and-ceilings/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>PAX 2008: Dragon Age: Origins, now with blood and ceilings</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/01/pax-2008-dragon-age-origins-now-with-blood-and-ceilings/">PAX 2008: Dragon Age: Origins, now with blood and ceilings</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 01 Sep 2008 07:00:00 EST. So, we respected his wishes. That said, Major's no video request didn't stop others from <a href="http://www.gamevee.com/viewVideo/xbox_360/XBox_360/New_Xbox_Experience_Public_Demo_PAX_08/757356">doing ninja-recordings</a>.<br /><br />Yesterday, we scurried across the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/pax08">Penny Arcade Expo</a> show floor to make our way over to the Microsoft booth to view Major Nelson's final presentation of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/14/e308-major-nelson-updates-with-tons-of-new-dashboard-details/">New Xbox Experience</a>. A fresh from their Seattle lab, newest and most updated version of the Fall update that showed off a few newly interesting facts. What exciting dash goodness? Check the list below:<br />
<ul>
    <li>Holy beautiful transitions! This latest Fall update build included never before seen transition effects including nifty fades, smooth sweeps and (our personal favorite) the guide pop up animation. We can't explain the transition effects, but trust that their addition definitely enhances the overall dashboard experience. Yum!<br /></li>
    <li>Dashboard themes will now instantly load a preview when hovered over. And, as an added bonus, the preview loading effect is sexy as hell.<br /></li>
    <li>While in a party, each person's gamer picture is placed on the top right hand side of the dashboard. When alone and party-less, only your gamer picture and gamercard are displayed.<br /></li>
    <li>Your overly Wii-like Avatar's comic-style text balloon displays your gamercard's motto.<br /></li>
    <li>EVERY Xbox 360 game's Xbox.com information (including game description, features and screenshots) is pulled into the dashboard while browsing the Xbox Live Marketplace.<br /></li>

Our first stop on the whirlwind tour of EA's heavy hitters was with our favorite running, jumping, sliding, wall-climbing, Faith. <span style="font-style: italic;">Mirror's Edge</span> continues to impress, and we were lucky enough to get a few minutes on a kiosk with her. However, the best thing about it isn't in the game, it was the cheering crowd behind us. Head behind the break to get the full skinny on our PAX experience this data-running hottie.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mirrors-edge/">Mirror's Edge</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mirrors-edge/#1082056"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/10/edge2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mirrors-edge/#1082055"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/10/stormdrains2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mirrors-edge/#1082054"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/10/stormdrains1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mirrors-edge/#1082053"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/10/heat2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mirrors-edge/#1082052"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/10/flight2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/01/pax-2008-hands-on-mirrors-edge-even-edgier-with-an-audience/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>PAX 2008 hands-on: Mirror's Edge, even edgier with an audience</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/01/pax-2008-hands-on-mirrors-edge-even-edgier-with-an-audience/">PAX 2008 hands-on: Mirror's Edge, even edgier with an audience</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 01 Sep 2008 01:30:00 EST. Day three and our the final lookg at our collection of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pax-2008-cosplay/1008915/">people embracing nerd culture</a> to the fullest extent. We're continually impressed by what we've seen here so far with the cosplayers, in both selection and execution. And don't forget, if you come without a costume, you can <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pax-2008-cosplay/1010601/full/">always make one</a> out of whatever they're handing out. Following an interview with Gas Powered Games at <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/pax-2008">PAX 2008</a>, we got some hands on time with their newest creation, <em>Demigod</em>. The first thing we noticed while watching it running on glowing, envy-inducing PCs was how deliberate much of it looked. Everything from the unit/map design to the ease-of-use control scheme oozed hours of careful consideration on developer GPG's part. While the concept of <em>Demigod</em> tends to bewilder many who hear it -- ourselves included -- understanding the idea only took us a few minutes of playing the atypical strategy game.<br /><br />Players only control their <em>Demigod</em> and its set of abilities. Our time was spent with the RPG-style Torchbearer, a Norse flavored character that can switch between ice and fire modes. We were digging his armored-burn-victim look, which just so happened to feature more armor and less burn. The Torchbearer is all about freezing everything before switching to fire and watching the screen light up as your enemies burn. Our magical offensive certainly got us some kills, but it wasn't moving the battlefront at all. Once we began to work more attentively with our AI-controlled troops of the non-Skynet variety, the battle quickly shifted to our favor.<br /><br />Our actions in-game where peppered by murmurs of, "Oh, whoa." and "I want this game, now" from various onlookers behind us. We were starting to agree with this sentiment. It surprised us to find out that the game is actually running on a version of the <em>Supreme Commander</em> engine, as we saw more visual variety in 30 minutes with Demigod than we ever did playing hours of <em>SupCom</em>. GPG assured us that the system requirements are designed to include low-end machines, which is very much due to the fact that <em>Demigod</em> doesn't try to do a thousand things at once on-screen while you play it. (our wallets say thanks) Looking at the game, it was fairly hard to imagine that the harpy-like creatures and wiggling death-plant-things were living in the same engine that featured angular robot-spiders and hover tanks that bogged down our computers just a year and half ago. All in all, <em>Demigod</em> looks like it's going to steal away our precious personal time when it eventually ships on Stardock's Impulse service next year.<br /><br /><object width="290" height="24" data="http://www.weblogsinc.com/media/audio_player.swf" x-shockwave-flash="" application="" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"> <param name="movie" value="http://www.weblogsinc.com/media/audio_player.swf" /> <param name="FlashVars" value="soundFile=http://podcasts.aolcdn.com/joystiq/files/pax08knhdemigod.mp3" /> <param name="quality" value="high" /> <param name="menu" value="false" /> <param name="wmode" value="transparent" /></object><br />[<a href="http://podcasts.aolcdn.com/joystiq/files/pax08knhdemigod.mp3">MP3</a>] Download this interview in MP3 format<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/31/pax-2008-hands-on-demigod/">PAX 2008 hands-on: Demigod</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 31 Aug 2008 11:00:00 EST. "That has to be the coolest piece of schwag ever made." People were honestly saying this about the coveted Vault-Boy puppet that Bethesda was giving away after their <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Fallout-3"><em>Fallout 3</em></a> panel. It was hard to come by too, since you had to attend the panel, get a special <em>Fallout 3</em> fat boy (read: atomic bomb) card, bring it by Bethesda's booth afterwards, and hope you got the puppet as a prize instead of the t-shirt (which was pretty damn cool too).<br /><br />Check out the gallery below, which is full of the Vault-Boy puppet. Is he good? Is he evil? We hope to find out <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pax-2008-the-pip-boy-puppet/1009001/full/">before he kills Ross</a>.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pax-2008-the-pip-boy-puppet/">PAX 2008: The Pip-Boy Puppet</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pax-2008-the-pip-boy-puppet/#1009006"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/dsc_0662pip_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pax-2008-the-pip-boy-puppet/#1009005"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/dsc_0644pip_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pax-2008-the-pip-boy-puppet/#1009004"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/dsc_0621pip_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pax-2008-the-pip-boy-puppet/#1009003"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/dsc_0619pip_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pax-2008-the-pip-boy-puppet/#1009002"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/dsc_0600pip_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/31/pax-2008-the-vault-boy-puppet/">PAX 2008: The Vault-Boy Puppet</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 31 Aug 2008 06:30:00 EST. Penny Arcade's Mike/Gabe told us in an interview that he hates all cake coverage. The good news is, you can't hate our cake and eat it too. So, it's with love and appreciation that we present this glorious photo of a sweet-looking, sugary Penny Arcade cake, featuring deliciousness from the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/penny-arcade-adventures"><em>Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness</em></a>.<br /><br />Gabe, you might hate cake, but we think the masses would decimate this Penny Arcade pastry piece with vim and vigor. It was created by cakesmith <a href="http://www.layersofillusion.com/">Brian Kurtz</a>, who is also available for weddings, bar mitzvahs, your LAN party, or "any other situation that calls for a bad-ass 3D cake that will make your guests crap their pants in disbelief." Stay tuned for our interview with Tycho and Gabe later this week.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/30/penny-ar-cake-makes-tycho-cry-us-drool/">Penny Ar-cake makes Gabe cry, us drool</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 30 Aug 2008 19:00:00 EST. Is this what Microsoft was not so quietly sweeping under the carpet when they <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/15/bungie-e3-game-announcement-pulled-by-publisher/">nixed the Bungie announcement</a> during their E3 keynote? We have no clue as of yet, and all we can get out of Bungie is a "we can't talk about it." We're going to try and batter down Bungie's doors today to get more info.<br /><br />So far, here's what we know. The menu screen says System Version 1.2, when the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/halo-3"><em>Halo 3</em></a> retail version is only at 1.1, and there's only a multiplayer option, no campaign. What does it all mean? We caught up with Bungie's Brian Jarrard who told us the screen was from a build that they brought on Friday that "wasn't really meant to be seen. However, it's really not that exciting, it's gotten kind of blown out of proportion."<br /><br />While the shakey-cam photo above from <a href="http://www.addictgaming.com/story.php?id=229">Addict Gaming</a> might be the only visual evidence of Mythic, it's definitely coming. At some point. Bungie wasn't forthcoming with details, but we'll see what we can find out.<br /><br />[Thanks, Robert]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/30/pax-2008-halo-mythic-aint-mythical-its-here-sort-of/">PAX 2008: Halo Mythic ain't mythical, it's here... sort of</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 30 Aug 2008 16:00:00 EST. This week's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/rock-band"><em>Rock Band</em></a> DLC is a philanthropic one -- all the money from the tracks will be going to the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Child's_Play_(charity)">Child's Play</a> charity. The PAX Pack will contain the following songs:<br />
<ul>
    <li>"Skullcrusher Mountain" -- Jonathan Coulton</li>
    <li>"Livin' on the Corner of Dude and Catastrophe" -- MC Frontalot</li>
    <li>"Shhh...." -- Darkest of the Hillside Thickets (previously unreleased track)<br /></li>
</ul>
Each band is performing at PAX and all the songs are master recordings. Look for these on the PS Store on Thursday for $0.99 each or $2.99 for the entire pack.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/30/rock-band-pax-pack-dlc-brings-charity/">Rock Band PAX Pack DLC brings charity</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 30 Aug 2008 15:45:00 EST. Jarrad then made it clear that the Mythic screen is "really not that exciting" and has "gotten kind of blown out of proportion." We attempted to get someone at Bungie to talk about it, but mum is the word.<br /><br />As we jet off to our next PAX appointment we thought we'd inform you about the latest and most interesting <em>Halo 3</em> news bit to come from the PAX show floor that's fourteen times more exciting than <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/29/pax-08-halo-3s-assembly-officially-revealed/">Assembly</a>. It's something called <a href="http://www.addictgaming.com/story.php?id=229"><em>Halo 3 </em>Mythic</a> with a multiplayer only menu, version 1.2 marking and, if the above screen grab from the guys over at AddictGaming.com can be trusted, is something to do with Bungie's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/15/e308-bungie-net-revealed-countdown-cancelled/">canceled E3 announcement</a>. Or it could be just a general <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/02/halo-3-title-update-to-switch-up-ranking-system/"><em>Halo 3 </em>update</a>. Or it could be something to do with the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/12/video-bungies-acceptance-video-hints-at-next-big-halo-related/">acceptance videos</a>. Or it could be everything combined. We dunno!<br /><br />Like we said, the image above was snapped from Bungie's booth at PAX, so (seeing that we're here at PAX) we'll sneak over to the Bungie booth like ninjas and inquire about this mysterious <em>Halo 3 </em>Mythic. Looking for group? PAX 2008 has you covered. While you're killing time or waiting for your number to be called in the console freeplay, you can chill out in here, play some tabletop games with your fellow gamers, and run around with a big LFG bubble over your head.<br /><br />We stopped by for a bit, and these rooms are actually a fun place to hang out, and you can easily run into a pickup game of whatever catches your fancy. It's a great way to meet people from all over the country (including one dude we met who came all the way from the UK to PAX it), and they're also near the nice, clean bathrooms. At least, they are clean on day one. We pray they remain that way.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pax-2008/">Penny Arcade Expo 2008</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pax-2008/#1014148"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/09/fallout3posterboy_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pax-2008/#1008813"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/img_0078_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pax-2008/#1008812"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/img_0054_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pax-2008/#1008811"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/img_0097_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pax-2008/#1008810"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/img_0053_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/30/pax-2008-lonely-gamers-lfg/">PAX 2008: lonely gamers LFG</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 30 Aug 2008 07:00:00 EST. We had a chance to inspect the lobby (don't pre-judge, lobbies can be interesting), meet <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pax-08-microsoft-campus-tour/1005224/">Master Chief</a>, inspect a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pax-08-microsoft-campus-tour/1005233/">few awards</a>, touch the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pax-08-microsoft-campus-tour/1005236/">Surface</a> and take a looksy at the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pax-08-microsoft-campus-tour/1005227/">Xbox Live Online Lab</a>. The one room that all of Xbox Live and its pieces parts are monitored from BUT a room that we couldn't photograph for obvious "super secret" reasons. We did take a picture of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pax-08-microsoft-campus-tour/1005227/">the door</a> though, so be happy with that.<br /><br />Here you go, start your gallery tour of our Microsoft Xbox campus tour by clicking <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pax-08-microsoft-campus-tour/1005223/">this wee little link</a> or click-attacking the gallery images below. It's visually interesting and mentally stimulating. Oh, and thanks again to the Paladino and the Major Nelson for taking time to hold our hand and walk us through the campus. Our palms were sweaty only because we were excited. Apologies.<br /><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/30/pax-08-microsoft-xbox-campus-tour/">PAX 08: Microsoft Xbox campus tour</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 30 Aug 2008 03:30:00 EST. And for those who aren't lucky enough to get hands on time with the new map, Bungie released a few <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pax-08-halo-3-assembly/">screenshots</a> depicting a bunch of Spartan on Spartan violence in a purplish colored Covenant world. We'll be getting some Assembly PAX hands on time a bit later and be posting a complete writeup about our experience. Until then, enjoy the Assembly picture goodies.<br /><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/29/pax-08-halo-3s-assembly-officially-revealed/">PAX 08: Halo 3's Assembly officially revealed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 29 Aug 2008 21:00:00 EST. Yes diddly do, according to last weeks <a href="http://www.bungie.net/News/content.aspx?type=topnews&amp;cid=15268">Bungie Weekly Update</a>, the map formerly known as "Purple Reign" is now called Assembly and is not at all affiliated with <em>Halo 2 </em>map <a href="http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/Midship">Midship</a>. Though, it is purple and Covenant themed.<br /><br />We expect Bungie to do the big Assembly map unveiling sometime later on Friday when PAX starts. We'll post photos, our Assembly gameplay impressions and hopefully corner Bungie for some interview fun. It'll be good times, guaranteed!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/28/reminder-bungie-to-reveal-halo-3-assembly-map/">Reminder: Bungie to reveal Halo 3 Assembly map</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 28 Aug 2008 23:15:00 EST. If you answered yes, then you should totally take team Microsoft's <a href="http://majornelson.com/archive/2008/08/28/pax-meet-n-eat.aspx">PAX Meet-N-Eat</a> invite and head to Seattle's ever so famous <a href="http://www.redmillburgers.com/">Red Mill</a> tomorrow evening. There, you'll not only have a chance to meetup with your fellow gaming peers, but Major Nelson, e, litheon, TriXie and a few folks from the Gamerscore Blog will be attending, chowing on burgers and mingling. We also have good word (from a certain Larry) that there will be stacks of bacon and plenty hot chicks ... need we sell this community event any more? Friday, August 29th from 1-2:00PM at the Seattle Red Mill. And <em>you</em> can play too! But that isn't all. On top of the <em>Gears 2 </em>multiplayer gaming and the on-stage "Sinkhole" campaign demonstrations, both <em>Gears </em>writer to the stars Joshua Ortega and <em>Gears </em>artist to the stars Pete Hayes will be making a PAX appearance for a quick Q&amp;A session and autograph signing. That said, we still think the meaty bits of the <em>Gears 2</em> PAX presence is the multiplayer ... we so damn excited!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/27/gears-of-war-2-to-be-playable-during-pax/">Gears of War 2 to be playable during PAX</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 27 Aug 2008 11:00:00 EST. So, let's dive in.<br /><br />First on the list of Bungie news, some rumor squashing. According to team Bungie, the <em>Halo 3</em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/12/video-bungies-acceptance-video-hints-at-next-big-halo-related/">acceptance</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/08/halo-3-takes-home-gphoria-goty-honors/">videos</a> that fans across the internets have picked apart and analyzed have been picked apart and analyzed way too much. Bluntly put, Bungie informs us that "there will be no insertion of Campaign objects, enemies or friendlies via the Forge as folks have speculated" and that there will be no "new feature that implements Campaign objects into multiplayer." Bungie then gives everyone some life advice, telling us all to "calm yourselves down, pump the brakes, and take a breath." Consider us calmed, breathed and our brakes pumped.<br /><br />Other than some rumor busting, there's a list of September <em>Halo 3</em> matchmaking updates (the removal and addition of various playlists) and confirmation that, come September 16th, the second <em>Halo 3</em> title update will be released. Finally, for PAX attendees, Bungie plans on doing a few autograph signings, a few Recon competitions and selling a limited number of PAX-exclusive Bungie t-shirts. Phew! We're out of breath, make the jump to get your weekly (double) dose of Bungie news ...<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/23/bungie-clears-up-halo-3-rumors-reveals-matchmaking-updates/">Bungie clears up Halo 3 rumors, reveals matchmaking updates</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 23 Aug 2008 13:00:00 EST. Meaning that those who plan on attending PAX and dreamt about getting a chance to see either <em>Gears 2 </em>or <em>Halo Wars</em> will have their dreams fulfilled. Wish granted! Also, according to the schedule, there will a few "<em>Gears of War 2 </em>Signing Sessions" planned which we can all but guarantee a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/bloggers/dustin-burg/">certain blogger</a> will be first in line ... every day.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/23/ms-brings-gears-of-war-2-and-halo-wars-to-pax/">MS brings Gears of War 2 and Halo Wars to PAX</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 23 Aug 2008 10:30:00 EST.
