Throwing down seven clams or more will also earn you 8 Bit Weapon's new chiptune album, Bits with Byte.

By our rough guesstimation, the June Bug Bundle is the 400 trillionth Indie Royale bundle released to date, which means that longtime patrons of the service probably have a rather large notepad file somewhere to keep track of all their bundle business. Thankfully, a new service (the Indie Royale Collection) has launched that not only helps manage your previously purchased bundles, but also lets you track your progress towards earning new rewards, which are applied retroactively (where applicable) upon registering.
Continue reading Indie Royale June Bug Bundle now live, as is a system for managing previous bundle purchases

Indie Royale June Bug Bundle now live, as is a system for managing previous bundle purchases originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 14 Jun 2012 12:45:00 EST. The regular price will be $10 for the game and $6 for the (17 song) soundtrack, but both items will be discounted 20 percent for a limited time after launch.

"Lots of stuff is new - the main cool feature is that your Grimp (the little character you control) now has the ability to warp back to his last resting position!" "It uses a little bit of your energy but if you're careful you no longer have to worry about missing an important jump - fall too far, just hit space and warp back."

"Also, rather than having to collect all the Spectra (these are the objects that let you grow your main garden) repeatedly we now save your progress in each garden, so you can just start from the last Spectra you grabbed when you go back in."

Hurray for Eden taking away its buzzkill elements! Q-Games is teaming up with Japanese artist Baiyon once again for another PSN collaboration. Baiyon, who created the visuals and sound for PixelJunk Eden and Encore, is directing an interactive music visualizer for the PS3, to be distributed via the PlayStation Network.

Unlike Q-Games' Earth visualizer, this upcoming project will not be built into the PS3 operating system. Instead, this will be a standalone application, akin to .deTuned. This is terrific news for Trophy hunters, as they should be familiar with how easy it is to get PSN XP with these standalone art applications.
PixelJunk Eden's Baiyon creating music visualizer for PS3 originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 18 Mar 2010 19:40:00 EST. Red Faction: Guerrilla
Arriving approximately seven months late to the party, I didn't play RFG until earlier this month when I desperately cobbled together 2009's game releases for a massive pre-GOTY playstravaganza. That marathon came to a long pause while I smashed through the many structures of Mars with my trusty sledgehammer, constantly hearing "Space A$&%*#&" playing along the way in my mind. Sure, RFG was a bit rough around the edges, but what it lacked in mechanical prowess was more than made up for by the sheer amount of childlike joy I experienced while demolishing everything in my path.
Continue reading Best of the Rest: Ben's Picks of 2009

Best of the Rest: Ben's Picks of 2009 originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 01 Jan 2010 16:30:00 EST. Let's be honest: this shirt isn't all too cool. That's a shame, considering we love our PixelJunk, and would love to wear some tees showing off our fandom. This rather uninspired shirt is from premium t-shirt maker The King of Games, and will cost a premium price: 3800円 (about $40). Considering the stylish look of all the PixelJunk games so far, we have to admit we're disappointed by this offering. Thankfully, an equally priced PixelJunk Eden Encore t-shirt is a bit more eye catching.

[Via Destructoid]
Show off your PixelJunk with boring, expensive tees originally appeared on Joystiq on Sat, 27 Jun 2009 10:45:00 EST. Did you know that completely beating PixelJunk Eden and its newly released Encore pack will unlock something super-special? Well, now you do. PixelJunk Monsters Encore hid a special random level generator, but Eden's bonus may be more spectacular. This video will showcase a game-changing way of playing the game. For fans of Eden, this is a must-watch.

Check it out after the break.

[Thanks, Tim R.!]
Continue reading Spoiler alert! The upcoming Encore expansion to PixelJunk Eden looks to be quite massive ... and quite fun. The Trophy list has been updated for the upcoming add-on, and the 11 new Trophies reveal some new details about the devilish new levels being added to the game. One Trophy requires a death-defying jump to get two Spectra in one go, while another asks players to open ten seeds without ever touching a plant. Ouch! The upcoming Encore expansion for PixelJunk Eden will feature 5 brand new levels for fans to explore. These additional levels feature brand new gameplay mechanics, like an item that enables zero-G flotation. Another level features two "mirror" levels that you can teleport between and that will undoubtedly hide some devilish puzzles.

The expansion will be available in just a few weeks and will cost $5.99 on the PlayStation Store. We think so.

PixelJunk Eden Encore gets five new levels for $5.99 originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 27 Mar 2009 11:11:00 EST. Publishers looking for a quick buck don't need to focus their efforts solely on the iPhone. Sony's Susan Panico touted the values of PSN development by providing a case study on PixelJunk Eden, Q-Games' third PSN-exclusive title. Panico told the GamesBeat audience that "PixelJunk Eden made its return on investment within 24 hours." Sales after that period become pure profit.

Of course, the success of Eden is a little unsurprising, considering the popularity of PixelJunk Monsters. Regardless, it's impressive that a small independent studio was able to create a trusted franchise exclusively through the PlayStation Network. With so much green made off of Eden, it's no wonder Q-Games is working on an expansion for the game. Eden Encore will be available in April.

GDC09: PixelJunk Eden profitable after one day of sales originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 24 Mar 2009 15:22:00 EST. Are you ready for more Eden? The upcoming PixelJunk expansion is expected to release in April, and will include even more of the gravity-defying levels we've come to love. "Get ready for zero gravity, mirror worlds," Dylan Cuthbert explains on the PlayStation.Blog. In addition, Eden will feature "something extra special at the end which is a Big Secret(tm) and is a present to all the fans."

No new details on the next new PixelJunk game were released, but we're certain another trip to Eden will keep us occupied for quite some time.

PixelJunk Eden Encore coming in April originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 20 Mar 2009 16:45:00 EST. One of the PS3 highlights of last year's GDC for PS3 was the unveiling of the third PixelJunk title, PixelJunk Eden, during Dylan Cuthbert's post-mortem of the first two games in the series. This year Cuthbert is set to return and unveil the latest PixelJunk project, according to a press invitation to the PlayStation Blog Lounge. Not only that but there will be hands-on time for those who attend.

We know that the fourth game in the series won't be PixelJunk Dungeons, which was also vaguely mentioned back at GDC 2008, as it requires more development time. At this point we really have no idea what PixelJunk 4 could be but, after our experiences with Monsters and Eden, we can't wait to find out next Thursday.

[UPDATE] Dylan Cuthbert has let the cat out of the bag via his Twitter feed. PixelJunk 4 will not be shown at GDC next week, instead we'll get the first look on the expansion for the third game in the series, PixelJunk Eden Encore.
PixelJunk Eden Encore to be revealed, playable at GDC [update] originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 18 Mar 2009 22:05:00 EST. The PSN PixelJunk series will be bundled in the PixelJunk 3in1 Pack for the Asian market, reports Siliconera. Were you completely enraptured by a number of 2008's independent gaming offerings? Perhaps you were infatuated with Q-Games' PixelJunk Eden, or bowled over by the bizarre meiosis exhibited in Coil, or, much like us, you were strangely obsessed with the brilliantly minimalistic You Have to Burn the Rope. If you want to show that appreciation in a worthwhile manner, you might want to cast your vote in the recently opened polls of the Audience Award category for the 2009 Independent Games Festival, which will be held in conjunction with the Game Developers Conference later this month.

Even if your favorite independent titles didn't make the list (or if your gaming habits stuck explicitly to big-budget blockbusters), most of the 15 finalists in the category are accompanied by their download links.
Despite being originally planned for release in Europe and Japan simultaneously, the PixelJunk Eden "wah, it's too hard" patch is still not out in PAL regions. The official PixelJunk website has now been updated to reflect the fact that, finally, the patch will see release in Europe on January 29.

The patch adds various features to the game which makes it a little bit less challenging, such as an entirely new control system, more time and a continue system. There's also a much-improved multiplayer camera, making playing with friends far less frustrating. Barring accidents, Europeans will be able to give it a try themselves tomorrow. We'll let you know once it's live.

[Thanks, Gerard@]

People just can't get enough PixelJunk Monsters. PS3 fans fell in love with this charming tower defense game, leading to the release of the Encore expansion pack and subsequent Trophy patch. PSP owners are in for a treat as they'll be receiving their own version of the game later this year.

What will Monsters PSP feature? We're expecting the same content featured in the PS3 games, but Dylan Cuthbert promises there will be even more stuff in the PSP game. In an interview with Core Gamers, he reveals the team is currently "adding 50% more content or more" to the game. Those that have played both Monsters and Encore know well that this is a massive amount of content. How will we possibly get rainbows on all of these levels?

When asked if PixelJunk Eden, the third of Q-Games' downloadable games on PS3, would also receive PSP treatment, Cuthbert seemed doubtful. Eden is a far more complex, processor-intense game. "Never say never of course, but it would be quite a challenge and a number of things might have to be changed."

PSP version of PixelJunk Monsters features 50% more content originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 28 Jan 2009 13:27:00 EST. A PixelJunk Eden patch will be ready to pollinate PSN this Thursday, January 15th, according to PlayStation Blog. The patch will add a number of user-requested tweaks, including a new (optional) control scheme, an improved multiplayer camera, a continue system, more time on the clock -- and, if that's not enough, the game's large crystals will now replenish a full one-half of the oscillator meter instead of just a third, Q-Games' Dylan Cuthbert recently confirmed. Essentially, the patch fixes the major qualms frustrated Grimps had with the game. The developer also took the opportunity to announce an "Encore" expansion for Eden, but details will be forthcoming over "the next couple of months."

Despite Eden's charm and "casual" appearance, much like PixelJunk Monsters, the difficulty ramped up like a sheer cliff in later levels (yeah, looking at you Garden 7) -- especially when playing with a non-gamer partner. The patch should make the game friendlier (read: easier), and, personally, we're most curious to try out the new control system. We've asked Sony if the new scheme alters having to shake the controller to "insta-drop," because that could definitely be a blessing.
PixelJunk Eden patch on Jan. 15, 'Encore' expansion announced originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 13 Jan 2009 16:26:00 EST. While available in Japan and Asia since December, American gamers will be able to get their hands on a new PixelJunk Eden patch this Thursday. The patch adds new features requested by fans. Firstly, a lot more time has been added on the clock. If that's not enough, there's a new continue system in place for those that just can't make it to that last Spectra. A new control scheme and adjusted camera system should be a pleasant addition for those that don't necessarily want an easier game.

Europe still doesn't have a concrete release date beyond "Coming soon."

Update: A PlayStation.blog post also reveals that an "Encore" expansion pack will be released for Eden in the coming months. Dylan Cuthbert also adds that Trophies can't be collected if you die and choose to use a Continue. The added time should help, though.

[Thanks, LemonJim!]
PixelJunk Eden's easy patch coming this week to US [Update: Encore announced] originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 13 Jan 2009 15:30:00 EST. For the second time Q-Games is on a mission to make their own games easier. They did it with PixelJunk Monsters, by adding difficulty settings and increasing the strength of some towers. This time it's PixelJunk Eden's turn to receive the patch treatment, which will make substantial changes to the game's difficulty.

The official site states that the patch will add a "new continue system" for when you run out of time and a new control system. You'll also have "lots more time to spare" as you make use of the "smoother multi-play camera." This patch is due to arrive on the 19th of December in Japan and Europe, with an American release "coming soon."

We're all for improving accessibility, but we get the feeling that these new features might make things a little too easy. The smoother multiplayer camera is definitely a welcome improvement, though. Hopefully now Q-Games has gone back and "fixed" both of their most recent games we'll start hearing more about new PixelJunk title soon. That'd be nice.

[Thanks betahoven]
Upcoming PixelJunk Eden patch gives the gift of time originally appeared on Joystiq on Sat, 13 Dec 2008 20:10:00 EST.
No one can doubt the incredible popularity of PixelJunk Monsters. That game continues to sell, months after its release. Now, the PixelJunk team wants you to try Eden, their latest game. As a bonus, they'll give you a free download of the Monsters Encore expansion. The add-on pack adds 15 new levels (and a random level generator). This should be a deal for those that love PJM and are looking for something new.

The deal ends on 10/16.

[Thanks, Remix!]

Kylie Prymus is the first columnist for PS Fanboy. A Ph.D candidate in philosophy, Kylie specializes in the sociology of technology. Through this new weekly column, Kylie will explore the impact of PlayStation on thought and culture.

My PSN profile tells me that I am a Trophy n00b. An abysmal 1st level collector. I've acquired most of the trophies that you average primate could gather with ease, and I'm not sure I'll be able to get many more. I have a paltry 8 trophies, all of them from PixelJunk Eden. That puts me at a 33% completion rate, firmly in the middle of category: l-o-s-e-r. Still, I didn't download Eden for the Trophies any more than I downloaded it hoping it would teach me to finally get my snozzberry* plants to grow. I downloaded it because it was a much lauded and quirky, not to mention exclusive, PSN title and I happen to have a soft spot for such qualities (particularly the exclusivity). Being able to collect Trophies through the game is just a bonus, a diversionary side quest that makes the whole package slightly more appealing.

As I venture for the first time into this whole trophy business I've had to ask myself why I should even bother. What is the appeal of <strike>achievements </strike>Trophies? Do they add to or take away from a game? What is it about the Trophy system that made it such a sought after addition to the PSN? Milestones? After writing an open letter explaining his fiancée's frustrations with PixelJunk Monsters' difficulty, BPPS writer Ryan Hewson received a response back from Dylan Cuthbert, president of Q-Games, saying help was on the way. Cuthbert had alluded to a major PJM patch before, but now he explains some more details of what's coming to PJM and PixelJunk Eden.

The lord of PixelJunk says PJM will receive a free patch adding Trophies, along with Easy, Medium, Hard and Expert difficulties to the game. Online rankings will maintain the existing difficulty level for fairness -- which we guess is hard? Eden will also receive an expansion pack and may receive a "namby pamby mode" for a more casual experience -- we'd settle for some control mapping functions to seperate silk and jump ... not to mention mapping the instra-drop to a button instead of waggle. No dates on any of this, but we're contacting Sony about some form of ETA.

[Via PS3 Fanboy]
PixelJunk Monsters receiving difficulty settings with free patch originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 11 Aug 2008 19:15:00 EST.
Finding the PixelJunk games frustratingly difficult? You are not alone; one of the guys over at TheBBPS wrote an open e-mail to Dylan Cuthbert, executive producer at Q-games, humorously complaining that his wife finds PixelJunk Monsters just a tad bit too overwhelming and requests difficulty settings for the game. Cuthbert acknowledges his prayers, stating that an upcoming free patch to Monsters will include the ability to make the game easier, or harder, than the default setting. Altering the difficulty will disqualify you from online ranking though, for fairness' sake.

Cuthbert also hints a similar treatment in form of a new "more namby pamby" gameplay mode for PixelJunk Eden in a future expansion pack. He feels Eden's "controls are too much fun to waste on just one set of game rules." We can't wait!

[Thanks, Jim S.!]

This is rather unexpected. Considering this would be a spoiler to many, we decided to put this one after the break. You'll see the last level in action, and you'll find out what really-special-feature unlocks at the end of the game. For the impatient ones, skip to 5:20. (It's best watched with full annotations, here.)

[Thanks, jimb! Got a significant other who isn't into gaming? How about someone you're dating who just doesn't "get" the bleeps and bloops coming from the TV screen? Looking for a game to play with your kid? Well, might we suggest playing PixelJunk Eden with them, which is available now on PSN for $10? The hard-to-describe, casual-friendly title is challenging, but it's a game best experienced with a companion.

Also check out the demo for FaceBreaker, along with some add-on content for Soul Calibur IV. SCEE has come through for us this week. PixelJunk Eden is here, in the form of both a demo and the full game. There's also a demo of Echochrome Micro for PSP owners, a smattering of game videos and the next episode of Movement. But really, that's all secondary to Eden and the glittering trophies contained within. At £4.99 (an almost direct translation from the US price of $9.99) it's a bargain. Here's the full release list:

Playable content

You simply never can tell what SCEE have planned. Deborah Mars, producer for the PixelJunk series, has stated in the comments of the recent PlayStation Blog post that Eden will be available today in Japan, Europe and America. We would love to believe her, honest we would, but until we see it with our own eyes we simply can't. SCEE has had a hard time understanding the phrase "simultaneous worldwide release" several times in the past, after all.

We'll remain hopeful and will update you with the full PSN release list as usual when it lands. In the meantime, have you tried the PixelJunk Eden demo? If so, you might want to take a look at the trophy list and get practicing. The game launches today, after all. Worldwide!
With the game due to hit the PlayStation Store tomorrow, Sony has divulged full details on PixelJunk Eden's Achievements Trophies, including what it'll take to earn 'em all. What's interesting is that out of the 20 up for grabs, 19 are bronze, one is silver, and ... none are gold. But we love gold!

We'll be keeping a keen eye on videos of PJE players earning said Trophies thanks to the game's built-in YouTube upload functionality, which allows for recording of up to 10 minutes of gameplay. And, given how hooked we've already become on the demo, we'll also be making use of the Remote Play feature so we never need to leave our garden untended. The first game to launch with Trophies is almost here. Finally! This stylishly addictive puzzle/platformer/rhythm game will be available on the PSN Store in the US and Japan tomorrow. No word on Europe, but fingers crossed. We thought you might like to take a peek at the Trophy list, in preparation for the game's release.

There's a distinct lack of Gold Trophies in PixelJunk Eden, but plenty of Bronzes to get stuck into. Here's the official Trophy list for the game.

A post on PlayStation.Blog by the President of Q-games Dylan Cuthbert reveals details about PixelJunk Eden's trophy and YouTube support. You will get a bronze trophy for every "seed" in a stage. Other trophies include destroying 500 "prowlers" or collecting 15 "crystal" in a single jump. Another trophy you can only achieve in 3-player mode. We also have a list of leaked trophies, from a NeoGAF post, which seems to be accurate, after the jump.

The YouTube upload feature will allow players to record gameplay and upload it directly to YouTube within the game. The procedure is simple: push one button to start and one to end. There is also no slowdown in gameplay "thanks to the power of the PS3 and its abundance of SPU processors."

Finally, they are thinking about trophies for PixelJunk Monsters as well via a patch. If they do release a patch, it will even include XMB music and "a couple of other things." We can't wait!

Tomorrow's American PSN update is looking to be pretty big. Our good pal Alexander Sliwinski over at Joystiq has just discovered that a demo for PixelJunk Eden will be arriving tomorrow in the US, a week before the full game arrives on the 31st. Our hands are already clenched around our controllers in anticipation. Who knew that the PixelJunk series would have us on tenter-hooks for the next release? After PixelJunk Racers, not us.

There's another fairly specific reason why we're looking forward to PixelJunk Eden; we've peaked, trophy-wise. We've been desperate for another game to satisfy our growing addiction for the glittering prizes, but Eden is the first game to support them since launch. The demo almost certainly won't include any, but at least it'll give us a week headstart to get our practice in.

PixelJunk Eden demo hitting the US PSN Store tomorrow originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 23 Jul 2008 16:30:00 EST. We just got off the phone with Sony, trying to see if we could get more info on Fat Princess, and were told that the demo for PixelJunk Eden will be available tomorrow with the regular PSN update. We're looking forward to people finally being able to test the game out for themselves, instead of us trying to explain its simple and addictive gameplay. If you can, grab a friend and play co-op, since the title is even more enjoyable with a companion. The full game will be available next Thursday, July 31. The price for the full game has not been confirmed.

Gallery: PixelJunk Eden

PixelJunk Eden demo available tomorrow originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 23 Jul 2008 15:30:00 EST.
There's one bit of key advice we learned after out playthrough with PixelJunk Eden at E3 in Los Angeles last week. Simply close your eyes and hibernate until the end of the month -- then you'll be awake with PixelJunk Eden ready on the PSN. This upcoming downloadable title continues the trend of Q-Games' abliity to make quirky, easily accessible arcade games exclusively for PS3. While not as conceptually easy to grasp as their previous titles, Eden has such an imaginative charm that it's hard not to fall in love with it. Having so little time with the game makes us wish we can simply fast-forward time to the game's release on PSN.

Undeniably, many will want an explanation on how the game is played. It may seem unclear from the videos, but the game is rather simple. Simple press X to shoot a web and start swinging around. You'll want to collect pollen and land on various pods. If you have enough pollen, these pods will grow into brand new plants, which will give you easier access to other parts of the level. Simply swing and stick to various plants, as you make your way through the level.

Hands-on: PixelJunk Eden originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 21 Jul 2008 11:00:00 EST. PixelJunk Eden is a simple concept boosted by its visuals, sound and co-op gameplay. Much like PixelJunk Monsters, Eden's simplicity in design hides a surprising amount of depth and Q-Games' PixelJunk brand now adds one more feather to its cap, presenting another piece of stand-out quality on the PlayStation Network.

We actually played Eden with the game's producer, Deb Mars, who, despite having shown off the game for the umpteenth million time, either has the patience of <strike>Solomon</strike> Job, or actually, genuinely, enjoys introducing people to Eden. As she went through the basic gameplay, it was easy to understand and gave a good sense that, much like PixelJunk Monsters, Eden really shines when it's played with a friend.

Gallery: PixelJunk Eden

Continue reading Joystiq E3 hands-on: PixelJunk Eden

Joystiq E3 hands-on: PixelJunk Eden originally appeared on Joystiq on Sat, 19 Jul 2008 21:30:00 EST. Q-Games' next PSN exclusive is PixelJunk Eden, a wildly innovative title that combines the best elements of Bionic Commando and Peggle ... with co-op. With its enticing style and as-always brilliant music, this upcoming Q-Games title cannot get here soon enough. PixelJunk Eden will be available in both the US and Japan on July 31st. And yes, it will support trophies.

Stay tuned for our hands-on impressions.
